- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Welcome to my sexy menopause body.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Not just a podcast, but a movement.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Menopause isn't something to run.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: It's something to own with strength, confidence, and yes, sexiness.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Because menopause doesn't mean fading into the background, it means stepping fully into who we are.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: And now here's your host, Kim Nicholson.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Let's get started.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Alright, be honest now.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: How much time do you actually spend scrolling through social media each day?
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: Come on, is it five minutes?
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: Ten minutes?
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: Thirty minutes?
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: How about an hour?
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: We all know it can be a time suck.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: You found you find that during this time maybe your coffee's gone cold or your to-do list is untouched, and your brain is now buzzing with a mix of envy, guilt, and that ugly little voice whispering, What the heck am I even doing with my life?
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Hi, I'm Kim Nicholson, and welcome to this episode of My Sexy Manipaws Body.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: And listen, this is a real one.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: We're diving into something you feel every day, even if you haven't named it yet.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: Scrolling doesn't just waste time, it also messes with your head.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: It can drain your joy, it hijacks your focus, and it chips away at your confidence.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: And the worst part, most of the time we don't even realize it's happening.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: But you're here, you're awake, and today I'm going to help you see it clearly and for you to take your power back because scrolling can do one of two things.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: It can either become your wake-up call or your silent self-sabotage.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: So here's a question I want you to sit with as we move through this episode.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: Are you learning from what you see, or are you torturing yourself with it?
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: So let's talk about that.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: Alright, so here's what happened to me.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: True story.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: I was just mentally fried.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: I had been caregiving, dealing with my own stuff, feeling drained, just wanted a mental break.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: So I did what we all do, right?
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: I grabbed my phone and I started scrolling.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: Hmm, first post, sunrise yoga and Bali.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: Wish I was there.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: Wish I could be doing that.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: Boy, I wonder how much money she makes to be able to do yoga and Bali.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: And the next post, a woman about my age rocking a two-piece bikini bathing suit with abs that look like they were carved out of stone.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: How'd she do that?
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: I wonder if she starves herself.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: She has a personal trainer.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: Then one of those uh what I eat in a day reels with her taking eight supplements, zero chocolate, and the energy of someone who has never had a hot flash.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: And suddenly, boom, there it was.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: That punch in the gut feeling.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: The voice kicked in.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: You know the one I'm talking about.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: The one that says in the back of your head, you're falling behind, you've lost your edge.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: Why can't you just pull it together like everyone else does on social media?
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: That's the trap.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: It feels like inspiration, but it lands like shame.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: So this isn't just comparison, it's self-sabotage, dressed up like self-care.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: And if you don't pause and catch it in that moment, it'll take you down without you even noticing it.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: So let's pause, let's interrupt that pattern.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: So the next time you catch yourself in the scroll spiral, I want you to stop and ask yourself, am I using this scroll to escape something?
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: Or am I here to expand, to really learn, to really make improvements?
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: Or ask yourself this is this inspiring to me?
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Or is it making me feel so small?
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: Third question I have for you is what do I need right now that social media can't give me?
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: You have to name it.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: Think about it.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: What is it?
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: Because awareness is the first stepping stone.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: And when you name it, you stop letting it run the show.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: All right, so what do you do instead?
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: Let's flip this script.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: Always seems to help.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: So what if in those moments of comparison that they weren't a sign of failure?
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: Hmm.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: But maybe a signpost, you know, like stop, yield, turn around, no left turn.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: What if it was a signpost more like a clue about what matters to you?
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: Here's what I mean.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: Okay, so that woman walking on the beach in the quiet, maybe that's not jealousy.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's your soul saying, Oh, I want more peace in my life.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: Hmm.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: That could be, you know, when you get those little triggers, those little signals, what is it?
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: What are they actually saying?
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: Or how about that reel of someone confidently lifting weights?
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Maybe it's your body saying, you know, I miss feeling strong and steady and doing things consistently.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: Or that clean, that clean, super clean kitchen that you see in some of these influencers' homes, or that healthy lunch prep reel that usually triggers you.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: Well, could it be your own nervous system saying, I crave order, I need simplicity.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: This isn't about shrinking in shame.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, no, no.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: This is about shifting into curiosity.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: So instead of spiraling into I'm not enough, or my abs don't look like that, or I don't have enough money, or I'm too old.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: Ask yourself this.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: What is stirring inside me at this time?
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: And what small step can I take toward that?
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: So that's huge, huge, huge, huge, huge, huge.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: So I know you're going to be scrolling here in just a few minutes.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: Either you're doing it now while you're listening to this podcast or later.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: So I really want you to pay attention to that little part of your brain that pulls you down, or maybe it lifts you up.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: But I want you to ask yourself, what or why is this stirring inside me?
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: Why does what this influencer eat in a day bother me so much?
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: What is it that's stirring inside me?
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: Is it that I don't I'm feeling guilty because I don't eat like that?
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: Or what could it be?
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: Ask yourself what, and then I want you to find out when you do ask yourself, when you do give yourself an answer, what small step can I take toward that?
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: Toward that answer.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: That's how you turn the scroll into a spark.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: Alright, so let me give you some of my go-to tips.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: Because believe me, I've been there too.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: And so everything that I, all the advice of the tips that I give you, it comes from me.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: I I I'm no different than you, even though I am a certified, board certified health coach.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: I'm just like you.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: I find myself going down these rabbit holes too.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: But there's always a way that you can flip the script.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: And so that's some of the tools that I want to talk to you about now.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: And these are also some of the tools that I teach my clients to keep social media basically in its place.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: Now, believe me, I love social media.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: Obviously, I'm on it.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: But we got to keep it in its place, right?
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: So the first thing, my first tip that I share with myself and all of my clients is catch the shift.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: So catch the shift.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: So when you feel that drop in your energy, that twinge of ugh or envy or jealous, say it out loud.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: Okay, this scrolling through social media or you know, following this one person is not helping me right now.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: Then move.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: Take a deep breath out and then touch real life.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: Step outside, pet your dog, stand up and just reset.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: Get a drink of water, whatever it may be.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: But I want you to catch that shift of energy that that's happening as you're scrolling through some of these uh social media posts.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: And the next thing I want you to do, the next tip I have is uh curate your feed like you your health depends upon it, because it does.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: So follow women who show the real story, you know, especially over 50.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: You're we're talking midlife, messy sometimes, and empowered most of the time.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: So do yourself a favor and mute or unfollow anyone who leaves you feeling bad or less than what you are.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: You don't need to do that to yourself.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: We beat ourselves up already, right?
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: So unfollow anyone who leaves you feeling less than you are.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: Now, also tip number three is to set scrolling boundaries.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: So in the morning, I and I have done this now for at least since COVID, I do not scroll before my cup of coffee.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: I don't.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: I get up in the morning, I do my stretches, I journal.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: This is me time, this is Kim time.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: And I don't start, I don't even pick up my phone during this time.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: So I enjoy that first cup of coffee.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: And usually what I've been doing lately is turning my chair so I can face my garden right outside my kitchen.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: And I love it.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: It just sets the tone for the rest of my day.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: And the other boundary I have is no scrolling while I'm trying to fall asleep.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: Again, if you've ever done that, you know what happens.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: Your mind gets fixated on something, and then down that rabbit hole we go, right?
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: Whether it's good or bad.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: So I don't even touch social media about an hour, maybe sometimes two hours before I go to bed.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: So try this instead.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: And what I'd like you to do is try this instead.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: So get a 10-minute timer and be intentional about your scrolling.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: You know, if you're searching for a recipe, of course, check Kim Dick out, chimnick.com.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: Got tons of healthy recipes for you.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: Save a workout that you see that you like and watch one thing that makes you laugh.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, there's so many funny things on social media that makes me laugh.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: I love the animal ones especially.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: I I save them, and so when I'm feeling down or frustrated, I just kind of pull one up and I laugh all over again.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: But then after the 10-minute timer goes off, put it down and step away from social media.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: And don't my fourth tip or my last one for you, and this one I I definitely have done, and um and I hope that you do too, is don't just save a social media post.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: You know how we all can save those if we do.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so don't just save it, do it.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: So does that quote hit you in the gut?
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: So what I mean is don't just put a heart on it, write about it in your journal.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Or if you save it, like if you save a like let's say what I have what I do is I if I see a recipe that I like and I've saved it.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: So if I don't make that recipe in the next week or two, then I delete it.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: Let it go.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: You don't need to have this big huge buildup in your save uh categories.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: So let it go.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: How about that stretch video?
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: Well, get off the couch and just do it.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: Stretch, use it, see how you like it.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: Don't like it, get rid of it.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: Your feed shouldn't just be a gallery, it should be a launch pad for you.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: And look, you know what, you're not alone and you're not failing.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: If you have felt any of this or all of this, you're not alone.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: Every woman I coach has had these moments where their thumb is scrolling, but their heart is sinking, where their brain is screaming, everyone else has figured it out.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: What's wrong with me?
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: And they feel like they're the only one falling apart.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: Let me be crystal clear with you.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: That pit in your stomach, that's not weakness.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: That's your wake-up call.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: You don't need to be perfect to make progress.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: You just need to be honest with yourself and brave enough to pivot.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: So this isn't about quitting social media at all.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: It's about taking the wheel again, taking control of social media on your terms.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: So the real flex isn't online.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: So I want you to have this mantra.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: So think about it the next time you're on social media, which I know is gonna be in a few minutes from now.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: So how about this?
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: When you find yourself scrolling endlessly, ask yourself or say this to yourself is this fueling my power or faking my peace?
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna say it again.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: Is this fueling my inner power or is this just faking my peace?
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: Is it really upsetting me?
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: Because the truth is the strongest, sexiest, most alive version of you, she's not filtered, she's not perfect, she's not scrolling.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: You know what she's doing?
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: She's showing up.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: So let that scroll show you what you crave and then close the app and go create it.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: Your real life is calling, it's not in your feed, it's not your next step.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: So, my final words to you today is I really want to thank you all for being with me today.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: And if this episode hit home, share it with somebody.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: Share with somebody who definitely does a lot more scrolling than you, maybe.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: Or better yet, share it with yourself by taking one small action that moves you forward.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: So put that phone down, go outside, breathe some fresh air, make something happen, move your body.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: You weren't made to scroll through life, you were made to live it.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: I'm Kim Nicholson, and bel I believe in your comeback.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: So, see you next time.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: This is your time to own your power.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: Rewrite the rules and show up unapologetically.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: Because sexy doesn't expire.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: You define it.
