- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, my name's Santasha Nabananga Bamblet. I'm a proud yr
- 0:04Speaker 1: the Order Kerni Whoalbury and a waddery woman. And before
- 0:08Speaker 1: we get started on She's on the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money, She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 1:00Speaker 4: for millennials who want financial freedom. In twenty nineteen, Australian
- 1:04Speaker 4: residents undertook eleven point three million outbound international trips and
- 1:08Speaker 4: they stayed abroad for an average of two weeks.
- 1:11Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I feel like that changed a little bit after that.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Did These are numbers which in twenty twenty two seem
- 1:16Speaker 4: unfathomable after two years being in and out of lockdowns
- 1:20Speaker 4: with no international travel on the cards at all. Fortunately
- 1:24Speaker 4: the pandemic is over, baby.
- 1:27Speaker 2: That's not true. That is not true. The pandemic is
- 1:30Speaker 2: not over, but we are over it too, so we
- 1:32Speaker 2: are moving on content wise.
- 1:35Speaker 4: While the world opening back up is incredible, what is
- 1:38Speaker 4: less incredible is the rising cost of living we're all
- 1:40Speaker 4: facing right now. With the exchange rate poor and the
- 1:43Speaker 4: fuel prices sky high. For many of us, travel may
- 1:46Speaker 4: feel just a little bit out of reach right now.
- 1:49Speaker 4: To make sure your long awaited holiday plans actually happen today,
- 1:53Speaker 4: we're going to be running through a few handy hacks
- 1:55Speaker 4: to help make your travel plans that little bit cheaper.
- 1:58Speaker 4: My name is Georgia King, and joining me as always
- 2:01Speaker 4: is Victoria Devine and V. If I'm not mistaken, little
- 2:05Speaker 4: Bertie told me you've freshly returned from a little overseas trip.
- 2:09Speaker 2: I don't believe a little Bertie. I believe that our
- 2:10Speaker 2: group chat that I was consistently like, look, I'm in
- 2:13Speaker 2: the international water.
- 2:14Speaker 5: It's me obviously a lot of content.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I feel like that was telling you that I was overseas.
- 2:20Speaker 2: But yeah, I feel really really grateful to have been
- 2:22Speaker 2: able to travel overseas. Obviously, after such a tumultuous period
- 2:25Speaker 2: of time, it is not an option for everybody, So
- 2:27Speaker 2: I guess let's let's start out there and go, you
- 2:30Speaker 2: know what the last couple of years have been, let's
- 2:32Speaker 2: call it the dumpster fire. It was. That's right, And
- 2:35Speaker 2: there are some people who are going to be listening
- 2:37Speaker 2: to this that are like v that is so far
- 2:39Speaker 2: off an option that I have right now, and that
- 2:41Speaker 2: is totally okay. But it's nice to talk about. It's
- 2:44Speaker 2: a conversation that we all want to have. I've just
- 2:46Speaker 2: gotten back and I feel like I am let's say,
- 2:49Speaker 2: the Savings Queen Jess. She threw me under a bus
- 2:53Speaker 2: while we're in Paris because we while I was in Paris.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, get this. This is so bouche, and
- 3:00Speaker 2: like I promise you, it was just coincident. We didn't
- 3:03Speaker 2: travel there for this. We had a Hents Day for
- 3:05Speaker 2: me because I'm getting married in November, which I don't
- 3:07Speaker 2: think I've told you guys the date as in November before.
- 3:11Speaker 2: But I'm getting married in November and my best friend,
- 3:13Speaker 2: or one of my best friends, Steph, is pregnant, and
- 3:16Speaker 2: so it's not going to be possible for us to
- 3:18Speaker 2: have a Hent's Day closer to the date because she's
- 3:19Speaker 2: gonna have a newborn and I just really want her there.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Another one of my best friends, Rose lives in London
- 3:25Speaker 2: at the moment, so it was just it seemed all
- 3:28Speaker 2: perfect when we were on holiday to like do this
- 3:30Speaker 2: day together anyway, We're having this boogie day. We'd planned
- 3:33Speaker 2: it all out. We're like in Paris, guys, this is
- 3:36Speaker 2: the fanciest thing I've done in my life. And we
- 3:39Speaker 2: looked on Uber to like get to our next venue
- 3:41Speaker 2: if we're we're going and I was like, absolutely not,
- 3:44Speaker 2: absolutely not. We are not getting in an uber that
- 3:47Speaker 2: is like four times to the price, not happening. And
- 3:49Speaker 2: they're like, Victoria, not on your heads a day And
- 3:51Speaker 2: I was like yet, nah. Now we can either get
- 3:54Speaker 2: a scooter because the Lime scooters and we're in Paris,
- 3:56Speaker 2: or we can go on metro. And they were like Victoria,
- 4:00Speaker 2: like we'll just get in an uber, like it'll be
- 4:02Speaker 2: much easier, Like ye, you're all dressed up, and I
- 4:05Speaker 2: was like nap. So we got on the metro. So
- 4:07Speaker 2: we went on the train on my Handstay. I was
- 4:09Speaker 2: dressed as him. I had my white dress, I had
- 4:12Speaker 2: my veil.
- 4:13Speaker 5: There is a Tea tocot dress.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Weren't you No, It was like it was a dress
- 4:16Speaker 2: I already had, like a one that I'd bought ages
- 4:19Speaker 2: ago that was really expensive that I needed to get
- 4:21Speaker 2: more cost per wear out. So when the girls were like,
- 4:24Speaker 2: we're gonna have a hend state, you have to wear white,
- 4:26Speaker 2: I was like, this is perfect. Also on the Queen
- 4:28Speaker 2: of a white dress, so I had a plethora of options. Anyway,
- 4:32Speaker 2: I wore that. It was a bit expensive, but also
- 4:35Speaker 2: it did look really boogie. I had my hair and
- 4:37Speaker 2: makeup done. I had this like massive veil on, and
- 4:40Speaker 2: I was just like going through the turnstile at the
- 4:42Speaker 2: Metro because I was like, I am not going to
- 4:45Speaker 2: be paying uber search.
- 4:47Speaker 5: Not in Paris on a budget.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Yeah. Always, the exchange rate is absolutely horrendous. So cocktails
- 4:54Speaker 2: were already costing us an absolute bomb. I'd prefer to
- 4:56Speaker 2: have another drink and go on the train. And I
- 4:59Speaker 2: made some pole.
- 5:00Speaker 5: Laugh So that was exactly you would have made.
- 5:02Speaker 2: So that's my travel hack. Have a Hen's party in Paris.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Incredible money win.
- 5:07Speaker 5: OpEd for PT.
- 5:08Speaker 4: I would have loved to have seen you on a scooter,
- 5:10Speaker 4: but anyway, we'll talk about this.
- 5:11Speaker 2: I've got to fee the show of it because newfound
- 5:14Speaker 2: love scooters, Like I am obsessed like the electric scooters everywhere.
- 5:19Speaker 2: I've got the linemap on my phone now already use
- 5:21Speaker 2: them in Melbourne. I love them. It's so practical, you
- 5:25Speaker 2: get to be outside, you get to have a fun experience.
- 5:27Speaker 2: It's really cheap, like.
- 5:29Speaker 5: What's terrifying your life?
- 5:32Speaker 2: So we're in London, right, George, and it was the
- 5:34Speaker 2: first time that we were going to scoot. One of
- 5:35Speaker 2: my best friends Rows leaves in London and she was like,
- 5:38Speaker 2: oh my gosh, Like the public transport here takes ages
- 5:40Speaker 2: because traffic's messed up. We can grab scooters And all
- 5:43Speaker 2: the girls were like, yeah, like that sounds like a
- 5:44Speaker 2: really fun experience. And Jess was a bit like, oh,
- 5:48Speaker 2: I don't know, I've never been on a scooter and
- 5:50Speaker 2: a maybeit apprehensive. And we're like, that's fine. We'll just
- 5:52Speaker 2: like go on backstreets and go slow. And when you
- 5:55Speaker 2: first get these scoots, they like have a speed limit
- 5:58Speaker 2: so that you're not going really fast. Right, So we
- 6:00Speaker 2: told her all of this, Rose Rose lied. Rose was like, yeah, okay,
- 6:06Speaker 2: do a little scoop, go around and circle. I'm in London.
- 6:08Speaker 2: I don't know where i am. I'm just trusting my
- 6:10Speaker 2: friend straight into Piccadilly Circus, just.
- 6:14Speaker 5: On the Skoders joint.
- 6:16Speaker 2: In the busiest joint in town. She's on a scooter, screeching.
- 6:19Speaker 2: She's alive, she got a cut down, she was fine.
- 6:22Speaker 2: She's better for the experience. But my friends, that's why
- 6:24Speaker 2: we have travel insured exactly because you can't.
- 6:26Speaker 5: Trust rows.
- 6:29Speaker 4: Lovely little anecdotes to kick us off. But let's get
- 6:32Speaker 4: into it. V. Where do we start in terms of
- 6:36Speaker 4: saving hacks for overseas travels?
- 6:38Speaker 2: So I feel like there are different levels of savings hacks.
- 6:41Speaker 2: There's like the basics, then there's like the mediocre, then
- 6:44Speaker 2: there's like the big juicy savings hacks. So we're going
- 6:47Speaker 2: to start off with like the bear basics, right, and
- 6:49Speaker 2: we're going to build up from there. So like the basics,
- 6:52Speaker 2: when it comes to making sure that you're getting a
- 6:55Speaker 2: cost effective holiday, would be making sure that you know
- 6:57Speaker 2: school holiday dates right, because it's obviously going to peak
- 7:00Speaker 2: anytime there are school holiday dates, because that's when most
- 7:03Speaker 2: people want to travel because a lot of people have
- 7:06Speaker 2: kids and they need to time their holidays around that.
- 7:08Speaker 2: So for someone like me, I don't have kids. So
- 7:11Speaker 2: before we went away, I made sure that I wasn't
- 7:13Speaker 2: traveling during a peak period. The other benefit of that
- 7:16Speaker 2: is obviously less traffic when you're over there. So if
- 7:20Speaker 2: you're going to Bali or you're going to a very
- 7:22Speaker 2: popular holiday destination, I actually love the idea that I
- 7:26Speaker 2: know it's not Australian school holidays, because then I know
- 7:29Speaker 2: it's not gonna be filled full of a plethora of kids,
- 7:32Speaker 2: because I think we've all been somewhere at some point,
- 7:35Speaker 2: even if it's just like the Maya Christmas windows and
- 7:37Speaker 2: you're like, oh god, I forgot what it was like
- 7:38Speaker 2: to have so many people in one location because it's
- 7:40Speaker 2: school holidays, right, So that would be my first Make
- 7:43Speaker 2: sure you're traveling in off peak periods if possible. The
- 7:46Speaker 2: next one is phone roaming, which if you listened to
- 7:50Speaker 2: our travel insurance episode, you know I got stung with
- 7:52Speaker 2: it TLDR. If you're with the same phone carrier that
- 7:55Speaker 2: I am with, roaming included everywhere except the UAE, which
- 7:59Speaker 2: is how I ended up with a seven hundred dollar
- 8:02Speaker 2: phone bill. Thankfully they've sordered me out. I'm out of it.
- 8:05Speaker 2: We're all good, but make sure that you understand your
- 8:09Speaker 2: phone roaming options. So for me, my phone roaming options
- 8:13Speaker 2: were five dollars a day if you're out of the country.
- 8:15Speaker 2: A couple of the girls I was traveling with were
- 8:17Speaker 2: with different carriers, so they were either ten dollars a
- 8:19Speaker 2: day or pay as you go. So just understand that
- 8:23Speaker 2: because I'm actually so reliant on my phone, and that
- 8:26Speaker 2: sounds really bad because when you're on holiday you want
- 8:28Speaker 2: to be disconnected. But the one thing that made me
- 8:31Speaker 2: feel really safe was knowing, all right, well, we're going
- 8:33Speaker 2: to go for a walk, but I also know I've
- 8:35Speaker 2: got Google Maps on my phone and I can get
- 8:37Speaker 2: straight home if I need to. I also found so
- 8:40Speaker 2: I traveled with a Wires card, which is another travel
- 8:43Speaker 2: hack and like a next level very good outcome if
- 8:46Speaker 2: you are looking for an overseas bank with good exchange rates.
- 8:50Speaker 2: I found them really good. But I had my wires
- 8:52Speaker 2: card on my phone because you can get it same day,
- 8:55Speaker 2: which was like a bit of a money win. Again,
- 8:57Speaker 2: not sponsored. I've never actually even spoken to them propera.
- 9:00Speaker 2: They just are a really good service, and I used
- 9:02Speaker 2: my Wives card when I was over there. But I
- 9:04Speaker 2: would make sure that you understand what that means for
- 9:07Speaker 2: you and how much data you actually need. Because some
- 9:10Speaker 2: people will be like, oh, just turn data off, and
- 9:12Speaker 2: I was like, that's not an option for me, Like
- 9:15Speaker 2: I genuinely get anxiety when I'm in a place that
- 9:17Speaker 2: I don't know and knowing that my phone was on
- 9:20Speaker 2: me and I could just open it and could just
- 9:23Speaker 2: use Google Translate, which, gee, have you seen that?
- 9:26Speaker 1: No?
- 9:27Speaker 5: Sorry, I shook my head. This is a podcast from Doing.
- 9:29Speaker 2: What are you doing? G King? So while I was
- 9:32Speaker 2: away Rose, she's like featuring in this episode very heavily
- 9:35Speaker 2: because she gave me a lot of tips and tricks.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Rose introduced me to Google Translate, which you might go, great,
- 9:42Speaker 2: no problems, Like I can type my text in there,
- 9:45Speaker 2: Georgia King. No, you open the camera and hold it
- 9:48Speaker 2: over whatever text you're trying to translate, and it translates
- 9:51Speaker 2: on the screen into English. Whether that is a menu
- 9:54Speaker 2: or a stop sign, it doesn't matter. It literally will
- 9:56Speaker 2: pop up and put the text over the top. So
- 9:59Speaker 2: I'll be like I'll have that, no problems, thank you
- 10:01Speaker 2: so much. But also when you translate, you can speak
- 10:06Speaker 2: directly into this in English and then press translate to
- 10:09Speaker 2: French and it tells your uber driver what you need
- 10:12Speaker 2: to tell them in their native tongue and then they
- 10:15Speaker 2: say it back in French and it tells me in
- 10:16Speaker 2: English what he just said. That is like no texting
- 10:19Speaker 2: out little messages and handing in the phone and being
- 10:21Speaker 2: like do you get this? Like it was free George
- 10:25Speaker 2: Jim how Good's gole how Good is Google sponsor up?
- 10:29Speaker 2: Because I am your biggest fan? But literally that's that's
- 10:32Speaker 2: Is that a money saving hack? I don't know if
- 10:34Speaker 2: it's a money saving chesa.
- 10:35Speaker 5: You get back on your hack.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Having Google Translate and having my phone there accessible and
- 10:39Speaker 2: knowing I can use it without being stressed about the
- 10:41Speaker 2: cash side of it was to me really important. It
- 10:44Speaker 2: might not be as important to you, so make up
- 10:46Speaker 2: your own mind. There's also an option in a lot
- 10:49Speaker 2: of countries, so it's becoming more popular in places like
- 10:52Speaker 2: Europe and Japan. But rentable mobile routers so you can
- 10:56Speaker 2: just like have a pocket Wi Fi thing, so you
- 10:58Speaker 2: would tend to that. Another hack, which if you're traveling
- 11:03Speaker 2: for a week, it probably doesn't make a lot of
- 11:04Speaker 2: sense to do so if you're traveling for a longer
- 11:07Speaker 2: period of time. So for example, Broshe who is on
- 11:09Speaker 2: our team, she's head of events here at she's on
- 11:10Speaker 2: the money. She is headed off nine weeks in Europe
- 11:14Speaker 2: without me. Kind of rude, but okay, it might make
- 11:18Speaker 2: more sense for her to just buy her own pocket
- 11:20Speaker 2: Wi Fi router to use while she's abroad so that
- 11:23Speaker 2: she doesn't have to change her mobile number and do
- 11:25Speaker 2: the whole new simcard thing, which can be a little
- 11:28Speaker 2: bit of a headache, but typically your reserve one, you
- 11:31Speaker 2: pick it up at the airport, or you can have
- 11:32Speaker 2: it delivered to your hotel. There's a super low cost
- 11:35Speaker 2: way to make sure you don't get stung with international
- 11:37Speaker 2: roaming fees if that's something you need access to. Sonic.
- 11:42Speaker 2: I mean, we did a whole episode on comprehensive travel insurance,
- 11:45Speaker 2: so go back to that. But my top tip there
- 11:47Speaker 2: is get comprehensive travel insurance non negotiable. And then Georgia
- 11:51Speaker 2: King the other tip not sponsored, just a really big
- 11:55Speaker 2: fan of shot Back. This is not their episode, but
- 11:58Speaker 2: it could be their episode shot Back. Honestly, when we
- 12:02Speaker 2: were booking our holiday, they had so many deals on
- 12:05Speaker 2: like booking dot Com or direct with our airlines. So
- 12:07Speaker 2: make sure that you're getting money back on these things.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Because every transaction I made, I was making sure to
- 12:12Speaker 2: click shot Back, and I was like, oh my gosh,
- 12:15Speaker 2: like I'm literally getting more cash back just by having
- 12:17Speaker 2: this on my browser. So again not sponsored. I mean,
- 12:20Speaker 2: they're probably gonna be pretty happy with this little shout
- 12:23Speaker 2: out because I'm literally their biggest fan. But I think
- 12:26Speaker 2: that's the one thing I didn't expect. Like, obviously I
- 12:28Speaker 2: shop on the Iconic all the time. I tell you
- 12:30Speaker 2: about this, I get my cash back, I have a
- 12:32Speaker 2: supreme time. But when it popped up for places like
- 12:36Speaker 2: booking dot Com, I was like, hold up, like you're
- 12:38Speaker 2: saying I can get like five percent cash back on
- 12:40Speaker 2: my holiday money in I'm absolute money in.
- 12:43Speaker 4: Amazing and using yeah, platforms like shot back so much
- 12:47Speaker 4: better than using platforms like after pay, you know.
- 12:50Speaker 2: But yeah, but I mean they're completely different, and it
- 12:53Speaker 2: frustrates me because they feel like I'm seeing a lot
- 12:56Speaker 2: of people in our community put holidays on buy now,
- 12:59Speaker 2: pay later pms and it just I just think it's
- 13:02Speaker 2: the wrong mentality. Like please don't get me wrong. It
- 13:05Speaker 2: is a privilege. It's kind of a reward, it's not
- 13:07Speaker 2: a given. Gee. I think that being in this privileged
- 13:10Speaker 2: position of having just gotten back from a holiday and
- 13:12Speaker 2: you know, I'd been thinking about this, you know, I
- 13:15Speaker 2: say flippantly, ha ha. We booked a last minute holiday,
- 13:17Speaker 2: but the reason we did that was because through COVID,
- 13:20Speaker 2: I had holidays that were booked that got canceled, and
- 13:22Speaker 2: thankfully I had good refund policies. So I've had this
- 13:24Speaker 2: cash sitting to the side that I've literally had ear
- 13:28Speaker 2: marked as this is a holiday at some point somehow
- 13:31Speaker 2: with my girlfriends. And then once Steph ended up pregnant,
- 13:34Speaker 2: which is like the most exciting thing to happen to
- 13:36Speaker 2: be my entire life, we were like, oh, we probably
- 13:40Speaker 2: should organize this soon because if we don't, that's just
- 13:43Speaker 2: not going to be a reality for us in the future.
- 13:45Speaker 2: So we planned this pretty last minute, but it was
- 13:48Speaker 2: also something that had been set aside. And I think nowadays,
- 13:51Speaker 2: especially with the rising costs of living and how much
- 13:54Speaker 2: the world is costing us, and how much stress we're
- 13:56Speaker 2: all under and how much trauma honestly all of us
- 13:58Speaker 2: have been through over the last two nearly three years,
- 14:01Speaker 2: we all go, we deserve a holiday, and you totally do.
- 14:04Speaker 2: But I also look at it and go, just future,
- 14:07Speaker 2: you deserve the financial implications that are going to be
- 14:10Speaker 2: put on you by making that decision. And it's so
- 14:13Speaker 2: easy to make that decision to go, oh, well, I'll
- 14:15Speaker 2: just go on holiday and deal with it later. It's like,
- 14:17Speaker 2: but is that actually putting you in the best possible position? Like,
- 14:21Speaker 2: I know this whole yolo mentality exists, and I'm a
- 14:24Speaker 2: very big believer in experiences over you know, big long
- 14:28Speaker 2: term financial goals happening sooner. Like I totally get that
- 14:31Speaker 2: everybody's on a different page, But personally, I would much
- 14:34Speaker 2: prefer to have the ability to go on holidays and
- 14:37Speaker 2: I'll just retire a few years later because for me,
- 14:40Speaker 2: enjoying the journey is so important. But it's also like,
- 14:43Speaker 2: can we really reframe this and go if you don't
- 14:46Speaker 2: have a good emergency fund and you don't have that
- 14:49Speaker 2: free cash flow available and you're really stretching yourself to
- 14:52Speaker 2: go on this holiday and it's putting you out to
- 14:54Speaker 2: quote live your best life, is that actually the best
- 14:57Speaker 2: use of funds that you have, Like, I just I
- 14:59Speaker 2: want you to care about yourself as much as I
- 15:01Speaker 2: care about you. Because as much as I gee, I
- 15:04Speaker 2: want you to go overseas, I want you to have
- 15:06Speaker 2: a mint time. I want you to have the best
- 15:07Speaker 2: time ever, But I go, is that worth it? Or
- 15:10Speaker 2: should we be saving for this? Because the way I
- 15:13Speaker 2: view it is, for me, a holiday is a reward,
- 15:17Speaker 2: either a reward for doing something good or saving, but
- 15:20Speaker 2: it shouldn't be something that costs you once you're there.
- 15:22Speaker 2: So I'm very much a believer in saving for a
- 15:25Speaker 2: holiday and paying it off before you go than paying
- 15:29Speaker 2: it off when you get back. Like, I don't believe
- 15:31Speaker 2: anyone should carry debt for things they can't tangibly hold
- 15:34Speaker 2: or tangibly on cell yeah right, Like it's just it's
- 15:37Speaker 2: bad debt and it's putting you in a bad position,
- 15:40Speaker 2: and I just don't want anyone to be in that position.
- 15:42Speaker 2: But I think it's you know, I'm bringing it up
- 15:44Speaker 2: now because I feel like every man and their dog
- 15:47Speaker 2: is currently in Italy.
- 15:48Speaker 5: That's what I was gonna say. It's hard when everyone's
- 15:50Speaker 5: there got a Malfi.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Every single influencer. I was like, Oh, we're in the
- 15:54Speaker 2: Amalfi coast. I'm like, oh my gosh, like gorgeous, But
- 15:57Speaker 2: don't forget that so many of them either sponsored or
- 16:01Speaker 2: have paid for it in cash or are in unnecessary debt.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Like I cannot and I don't mean to throw influences
- 16:08Speaker 2: under the bus, because gee, we are influencers in a way,
- 16:11Speaker 2: like the amount of influences I have spoken to, because
- 16:14Speaker 2: that's you know, my financial advice practice really focuses on
- 16:17Speaker 2: people with social media platforms. The amount of influencers I
- 16:20Speaker 2: have spoken to before that are like, oh, I'm in
- 16:22Speaker 2: fifty grand worth of personal debt, like no worries because
- 16:24Speaker 2: it's like for my personal brand. And I just go, what,
- 16:28Speaker 2: like why are you putting up with this? Like your
- 16:30Speaker 2: audience don't require you to have a brand new XBYZ
- 16:33Speaker 2: or go on a holiday to create content, Like, no
- 16:35Speaker 2: one's expecting this of you. So I think there's something
- 16:37Speaker 2: really sexy about putting your own needs first. I don't know.
- 16:40Speaker 5: Okay, So after pay is a no no, what.
- 16:42Speaker 2: A surprise nobody's shocked to accept.
- 16:45Speaker 4: For Victoria, let's move on the V and chat about flights.
- 16:49Speaker 4: How can we save a pretty penny when it comes
- 16:52Speaker 4: to booking our affairs?
- 16:54Speaker 2: Okay, So there are lots of ways, and I want
- 16:56Speaker 2: to say research, but also research is also going to
- 16:59Speaker 2: put you back. So private browsing when you're on your
- 17:02Speaker 2: computer and you're looking up flights go into eatingcognito mode
- 17:05Speaker 2: so that your cookies aren't being tracked, because if your
- 17:08Speaker 2: cookies are being tracked, the flight company they're really smart.
- 17:10Speaker 2: They're like, g wants to go on holiday on these dates. Okay,
- 17:13Speaker 2: let's show her the price today and then if she
- 17:16Speaker 2: looks tomorrow, let's add one hundred bucks to it, because really, yeah,
- 17:19Speaker 2: it happens all the time. And if you get rid
- 17:21Speaker 2: of your cookies and delete like your browsing history, more
- 17:24Speaker 2: often than not, the price will go down because if
- 17:26Speaker 2: you look anyway. That is a hot tip. Other hot tip,
- 17:30Speaker 2: after I've done a lot of research, the best time
- 17:33Speaker 2: to book a flight is Tuesday at eight pm. And
- 17:37Speaker 2: that's because then this might change because we're going to
- 17:39Speaker 2: send the shoes on the money community onto the internet
- 17:42Speaker 2: to do this. But that's because that's when flight companies
- 17:45Speaker 2: and flight websites and booking websites have the least amount
- 17:48Speaker 2: of traffic, so they want the most amount of bookings.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Whereas the worst time you can book a flight is
- 17:53Speaker 2: a Saturday night after eight pm, and that's because.
- 17:56Speaker 5: People are on the berz and they're like, oh, let's.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Get a buck, let's go a bye way yeah, that's
- 18:00Speaker 2: literally it, right. Is that not the night that you
- 18:03Speaker 2: would organize to have your mates over to book the
- 18:05Speaker 2: holiday that you've been planning on.
- 18:06Speaker 5: It's not going to be a Tuesday?
- 18:07Speaker 4: Yuck?
- 18:08Speaker 5: I hate tuesdays.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Yeah we okay, gee, we say recording on a Tuesday
- 18:16Speaker 2: or I have no problems. So cookies are really important,
- 18:19Speaker 2: not the delicious kind, but the kind that save your money.
- 18:21Speaker 2: And then look at flexible dates for planes because they
- 18:25Speaker 2: really vary. So an example of that is not going,
- 18:28Speaker 2: oh hey, gee, have a look if you can just
- 18:30Speaker 2: go the week before, like that's not that practical. But
- 18:33Speaker 2: I actually looked at flights because I was in charge
- 18:36Speaker 2: of booking Ah surprise, I was in charge of booking
- 18:39Speaker 2: flights for the four of us that were going to
- 18:42Speaker 2: the UK, right, So I put down all of our
- 18:45Speaker 2: flight preferences and how to look at what it would cost.
- 18:47Speaker 2: And I put down flexible dates, not because I actually
- 18:50Speaker 2: wanted to change the time, but because I wanted to
- 18:52Speaker 2: see what that would look like. And I realized that
- 18:56Speaker 2: if we came back a day later than what we
- 18:59Speaker 2: had planned originally. When we sat down and we said
- 19:01Speaker 2: let's go on holiday, what dates do you want like
- 19:03Speaker 2: my girlfriends and night. We're very much homebodies. So if
- 19:07Speaker 2: I'm going on a holiday, I actually want to come
- 19:09Speaker 2: back with enough time to be at home sett all unpack,
- 19:12Speaker 2: have a good sleep in my own bed before going
- 19:14Speaker 2: back to work. So I was like, I want to
- 19:15Speaker 2: probably be back on the Friday, so I've got the
- 19:17Speaker 2: weekend and go back to work on Monday. Right, this
- 19:19Speaker 2: is my thought pattern. But we realized if we were
- 19:22Speaker 2: happy to fly in on this Saturday night at like
- 19:26Speaker 2: ten pm or something ridiculous and only have that Sunday,
- 19:29Speaker 2: we were saving close to one thousand dollars. Wow. So
- 19:32Speaker 2: all of us agreed, you know what, as much as
- 19:34Speaker 2: we want to come back on that Friday night, let's
- 19:36Speaker 2: just extend it for like less than twenty four hours.
- 19:39Speaker 2: And it put us in a better position. The other
- 19:41Speaker 2: thing happened at the start of the holiday as well,
- 19:44Speaker 2: where I was like, guys, like, what date do we
- 19:46Speaker 2: want to go? And everyone's like, cool, we finished work
- 19:48Speaker 2: on Friday, let's go on Saturday morning or you know,
- 19:51Speaker 2: Saturday afternoon. I was like, no problems. But I went
- 19:54Speaker 2: back to them and said, look, flights are four hundred
- 19:56Speaker 2: dollars each cheaper if we can fly out at three
- 19:59Speaker 2: A on the friday that you finished work, Like, would
- 20:02Speaker 2: you be down for actually flying out the night that
- 20:04Speaker 2: you finished work? And everyone was like, yeah, no problems,
- 20:06Speaker 2: Like we'll finish work, we'll have a big day, we'll
- 20:08Speaker 2: fall asleep on the plane. So for us, we ended
- 20:10Speaker 2: up actually saving a fair bit of money because we
- 20:12Speaker 2: were able to be flexible on the dates. And I
- 20:14Speaker 2: don't think it's about going, oh, should you change a
- 20:16Speaker 2: holiday a week or so, It's literally about the small
- 20:19Speaker 2: flight changes to the more unpopular flights. That meant one,
- 20:23Speaker 2: our flight wasn't so packed, because from what I understand,
- 20:27Speaker 2: flights at the moment are hectic. But two, it saved
- 20:30Speaker 2: us some pretty serious bank Like I think we ended
- 20:32Speaker 2: up saving more than twelve hundred dollars each on the
- 20:34Speaker 2: return flights just because we weren't trying to fly at
- 20:37Speaker 2: the quote most convenient time for us. And then also
- 20:41Speaker 2: to add on to that, not a money saving trick,
- 20:44Speaker 2: but a time saving trick. The second we got to
- 20:47Speaker 2: the airport, we started acting like we were on London time. Yeah,
- 20:51Speaker 2: so making sure that we were aligning our sleep schedule
- 20:54Speaker 2: for the plane to what the location would be so
- 20:58Speaker 2: that we weren't as jet lagged when we got worked
- 21:00Speaker 2: out for king uh huh coming home not the same,
- 21:04Speaker 2: But we won't talk about.
- 21:04Speaker 5: It or about that one.
- 21:06Speaker 4: I think we've mentioned this before. V. One of my
- 21:08Speaker 4: tips for saving money when it comes to travel would
- 21:11Speaker 4: be skipping on a calm a little bit, especially if
- 21:14Speaker 4: you're somewhere where you're going to be outsight seeing all
- 21:16Speaker 4: day and you're not going to be spending that much
- 21:19Speaker 4: time at the accommodation, even though we might have big
- 21:21Speaker 4: dreams of you know, scrolling Airbnb and like looking at
- 21:23Speaker 4: all of the amazing places, but that can be a
- 21:26Speaker 4: bit of a waste of money if you're not actually
- 21:28Speaker 4: spending that much time.
- 21:29Speaker 2: I could do you agree? Agree more? And I guess
- 21:31Speaker 2: this is going to shock a lot of people. And
- 21:33Speaker 2: I say it's going to shock a lot of people
- 21:35Speaker 2: because I already know you're shocked, because you're in my
- 21:37Speaker 2: DMS being like, what the hell of Victoria, Divine, we
- 21:40Speaker 2: stayed in hostel when we got to London.
- 21:42Speaker 4: I cannot believe that you stayed in a hostel. Why,
- 21:46Speaker 4: because you're the boogiest woman I know.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess it did look a little bit dumb
- 21:50Speaker 2: me walking in and I did have like an ic
- 21:51Speaker 2: sandbag and I was like, hello, huge checking style, But
- 21:55Speaker 2: it genuinely just made the most sense. Right, London is
- 21:57Speaker 2: really expensive if like I could not believe when I
- 22:00Speaker 2: was there, the cost of living, like, oh my gosh,
- 22:03Speaker 2: coffees were costing us like fourteen dollars. Like everything there
- 22:07Speaker 2: was double so like the exchange rate two pound is insane.
- 22:11Speaker 2: At the moment, everything was expensive. So when we were
- 22:15Speaker 2: doing our research to find out like where should we stay,
- 22:17Speaker 2: what should we do? We looked at Airbnb, we looked
- 22:20Speaker 2: at hotels, we looked at literally everything, and I was
- 22:23Speaker 2: just like, this is insane. Like there were five of
- 22:25Speaker 2: us to accommodate, which meant if we went with a hotel,
- 22:28Speaker 2: we'd probably have to have a couple of rooms. So
- 22:29Speaker 2: it was getting to become really expensive. And I ended
- 22:33Speaker 2: up just going, hey, would you guys consider a hostel?
- 22:36Speaker 2: And I think the girls thought I was joking because
- 22:37Speaker 2: they were like, ha haha, yeah, no problem speed And
- 22:40Speaker 2: then when I sent them the booking link, they were like,
- 22:42Speaker 2: she is serious. But I think we ended up paying
- 22:46Speaker 2: about twelve hundred dollars for five of us for like
- 22:48Speaker 2: four nights in London, which is unheard of, Like that's
- 22:51Speaker 2: so cheap. We stayed at just because I know I'm
- 22:54Speaker 2: going to get asked. We stayed at Wombats, which is
- 22:56Speaker 2: a hostel in London, but we booked a private room
- 23:00Speaker 2: so we had bunk beds, which was a dream like
- 23:03Speaker 2: a girls trip vibes. It felt like we're on school camp.
- 23:06Speaker 2: But we had our own, very clean, very nice bathroom.
- 23:09Speaker 2: It was all fine, a separate toilet like getting ready
- 23:11Speaker 2: area up like it actually was the dream set up,
- 23:15Speaker 2: and it just took a bit of research to make
- 23:16Speaker 2: sure we weren't getting a dodgy hostel where it was
- 23:19Speaker 2: like a fifty person share room and we didn't know
- 23:21Speaker 2: who was there. We got this private room, six bunk beds,
- 23:25Speaker 2: so there was a spare one in our room, but
- 23:26Speaker 2: we wanted to book the whole room and not have
- 23:28Speaker 2: randoms in our house. But it worked really well, very
- 23:31Speaker 2: centrally located very close to a train station. You're right,
- 23:34Speaker 2: we weren't there the whole time. So to us, London
- 23:37Speaker 2: was the place where we really wanted to save on
- 23:39Speaker 2: accommodation because it just no brainer. Yeah, because we were
- 23:43Speaker 2: going out for dinner, everything was more expensive. We wanted
- 23:45Speaker 2: to enjoy our time there, but then when we went
- 23:48Speaker 2: further down into France, we were like, oh, we actually
- 23:51Speaker 2: want to have a bit of a relaxing time. So
- 23:52Speaker 2: we ended up booking an airbnb that was purely based
- 23:55Speaker 2: on the fact that we'd want to hang out there.
- 23:57Speaker 2: But I think it's all about how much time are
- 23:59Speaker 2: you actually planning on space and would you consider a
- 24:02Speaker 2: hostel because I know a lot of you are listening,
- 24:04Speaker 2: going that doesn't sound very Victoria, But it's all about values.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Like I just wanted to be safe, secure, I have
- 24:09Speaker 2: a comfortable bed, make sure that I could get around
- 24:12Speaker 2: and see things and enjoy my time there. And that
- 24:14Speaker 2: enabled me to do that perfectly. Like was it the rits?
- 24:17Speaker 2: Absolutely not. But did that mean that we could go
- 24:19Speaker 2: afford to pay for drinks at the risk and have
- 24:21Speaker 2: like the bougiest time ever while we're they're on food
- 24:24Speaker 2: at beverage, Yes, because we did that too.
- 24:26Speaker 4: Amazing. Yeah, little sacrifice and it goes a long way.
- 24:29Speaker 4: The other thing I was going to say there, V
- 24:31Speaker 4: is it's probably worth as well checking out the location
- 24:34Speaker 4: of where you're staying. I'm sure that that hostel was
- 24:37Speaker 4: centrally located. They always seem to be. But if you're
- 24:40Speaker 4: saving money because it's really far out of the city,
- 24:42Speaker 4: but then you have to pay heapes for cats into town,
- 24:45Speaker 4: then it's like worth weighing that up as well. Yeah, Like,
- 24:47Speaker 4: I think the one thing that I really liked was
- 24:50Speaker 4: in the UK and when we traveled. Public transport is
- 24:53Speaker 4: so easy and it's actually my preference when I'm getting around.
- 24:57Speaker 2: So if I'm overseas, I actually just want to experien it,
- 25:00Speaker 2: Like I want to go on the Metro. I want
- 25:02Speaker 2: to see what it's like. I want to be in
- 25:04Speaker 2: and about and around people. I don't actually want to
- 25:07Speaker 2: just go from uber to uber to cab to cab
- 25:10Speaker 2: because it just feels like I'm at home, right, So
- 25:12Speaker 2: I know everybody is different there, but it was for
- 25:14Speaker 2: us we wanted to be close to public transport. We
- 25:17Speaker 2: actually were really close to London Tower Bridge. It was
- 25:19Speaker 2: a non issue when it came to transport. But I
- 25:22Speaker 2: would look at that too. Just because it's cheap doesn't
- 25:24Speaker 2: mean it's actually a good money win.
- 25:26Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly right. You just mentioned before v that the
- 25:29Speaker 4: cost of living was insane over there. We made yep,
- 25:34Speaker 4: how did you save money when it comes to eating out?
- 25:37Speaker 2: Okay, so one of my favor this entire episode is
- 25:41Speaker 2: how stingy can Victoria Devine be Like, that's what it
- 25:44Speaker 2: should be called. But I promise you I have really
- 25:47Speaker 2: good holidays and I really enjoy it, and I actually
- 25:49Speaker 2: much prefer this. But one of my other tips is,
- 25:52Speaker 2: if you are staying in a hotel that has a
- 25:53Speaker 2: mini bar, get it emptied. Not because I don't trust you,
- 25:57Speaker 2: not because I'm like, oh my gosh, you'll eat the
- 25:58Speaker 2: stuff in the minibar and it's expensive. That's not it,
- 26:01Speaker 2: because they leave the fridge in there, and you can
- 26:03Speaker 2: put stuff in the fridge. Yeah, so you can do breakfast.
- 26:07Speaker 2: So often when I travel, especially if I travel with Steve,
- 26:10Speaker 2: we go to a local supermarket when we arrive and
- 26:12Speaker 2: we grab some breakfast stuff. We might grab some like
- 26:15Speaker 2: croissants if we're in France or whatever it is, and
- 26:17Speaker 2: we grab some cereal and some milk and some fruit
- 26:20Speaker 2: and chuck that in the fridge and then we have
- 26:21Speaker 2: breakfast before we leave. And I feel like that genuinely
- 26:25Speaker 2: cuts the cost down. But you can try different things
- 26:28Speaker 2: from different locations, Like this is so lame, But we're
- 26:32Speaker 2: going to the US later this year. I'm so excited
- 26:35Speaker 2: to try the US cereals and like go to the
- 26:37Speaker 2: supermarket like lucky charms. Yeah, I don't know what else
- 26:40Speaker 2: do cap didn't crunch or whatever it is, Like, I'm
- 26:43Speaker 2: not here trying to be super healthy. I'm here going
- 26:45Speaker 2: this is actually a really good way of saving money
- 26:48Speaker 2: and maybe experiencing something else that the locals experience. I
- 26:51Speaker 2: don't think we need to look at it as a sacrifice, like,
- 26:54Speaker 2: oh my gosh, well, let's just get the things that
- 26:55Speaker 2: you want to eat for breakfast. Like when we're in Paris,
- 26:58Speaker 2: we got our own breakfast and had it at the airbnb,
- 27:00Speaker 2: but we made it a thing like we got some
- 27:02Speaker 2: juice and we drank the juicy in champagne glasses and
- 27:05Speaker 2: had some croissants and stuff. And it was just a
- 27:08Speaker 2: much more cost effective way to have breakfast for five
- 27:12Speaker 2: adults but also enjoy the experience. And then we went
- 27:15Speaker 2: out to a museum or did whatever we wanted to do,
- 27:17Speaker 2: and it was just a very nice way to experience life.
- 27:21Speaker 2: But it's also such a more chill way to like
- 27:23Speaker 2: start the day, like, yes, so where are we going?
- 27:25Speaker 2: What are we doing. I mean, don't get me wrong,
- 27:27Speaker 2: we still went up for some breakfasts, but I think
- 27:29Speaker 2: that's a really good idea. And the next is eating
- 27:32Speaker 2: like a local, Like if you're overseas, it is very
- 27:35Speaker 2: very likely that local dishes are going to be much
- 27:38Speaker 2: cheaper than international cuisine. Like if you're trying to go
- 27:41Speaker 2: over to Bali and then go to the Italian restaurant, like,
- 27:44Speaker 2: that's not going to be the cheapest option for you.
- 27:46Speaker 2: And because it's local, they're probably tastier and better made
- 27:49Speaker 2: because they're the locals making local food, Like why wouldn't
- 27:52Speaker 2: you want to do that? So I think it's important
- 27:54Speaker 2: to have a look at that. Obviously well within your
- 27:56Speaker 2: dietary restrictions and stuff like that. But then all so,
- 28:01Speaker 2: looking for a place with a kitchen might be a
- 28:02Speaker 2: good option. Some hotels actually have little kitchenettes, so check
- 28:07Speaker 2: out what that is, because you could save some money
- 28:09Speaker 2: even just cooking like one meal at home or where
- 28:12Speaker 2: you're staying. Plus going to a market or supermarket as
- 28:15Speaker 2: I said before, Oh, super fun in another CARAMERI like,
- 28:18Speaker 2: am I the only one that goes come we go
- 28:19Speaker 2: to a supermarket?
- 28:21Speaker 5: Chemist's really fun.
- 28:23Speaker 2: The chemists are really fun, Like, I want to see
- 28:25Speaker 2: all the stuff you guys have, Like I'm just I'm crazy,
- 28:29Speaker 2: but that's okay, I love it, but genuinely a kitchen,
- 28:33Speaker 2: but also ask the hotel you're staying at what amenities
- 28:36Speaker 2: they have. I know this again makes me sound like
- 28:39Speaker 2: super stingy Victoria's saving tips like, I promise these are
- 28:42Speaker 2: good tips though, great tips. The fridge great, you can
- 28:45Speaker 2: have it emptied out, put your stuff in it. Do
- 28:47Speaker 2: they have access to a microwave?
- 28:49Speaker 1: Like?
- 28:49Speaker 2: Can you have a microwave in your room? Very likely
- 28:52Speaker 2: they actually have those on offer because people traveling with
- 28:55Speaker 2: babies often ask for them to warm bottles up in
- 28:58Speaker 2: the middle of the night, Like is that an option
- 29:00Speaker 2: for you? Can you have a microwave in there? Bam,
- 29:02Speaker 2: You've got a microwave and a fridge and you didn't
- 29:04Speaker 2: even have to book a place with a kitchen. Two
- 29:06Speaker 2: minute noodles come at me really exactly. It just depends
- 29:10Speaker 2: on what your values are and what you're doing. But
- 29:13Speaker 2: I'm the type of person who does get burnt out
- 29:15Speaker 2: on a holiday. Sometimes I just don't want to go
- 29:17Speaker 2: out for dinner. I don't want to go to a restaurant.
- 29:19Speaker 2: I do want to eat easy mac in my bed
- 29:21Speaker 2: and watch a movie and have a bit of a
- 29:23Speaker 2: chill night, and that could be a really good way
- 29:25Speaker 2: of building in a more cost effective day.
- 29:29Speaker 4: Right, smart, some very clever tips in their v lord
- 29:34Speaker 4: on the other side of the break, we're gonna hear
- 29:36Speaker 4: more from you there, and also we're gonna chat through
- 29:39Speaker 4: how we can sight see more economically, because that is
- 29:42Speaker 4: something that they really pump up the toruism.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Hop on, hop off to hop on, hop off tour.
- 29:47Speaker 5: Don't go anywhere guys.
- 29:52Speaker 4: Alrighty v let's jump straight back into it. I saw
- 29:56Speaker 4: on your socials that you did a lot of sight
- 29:57Speaker 4: seeing when you were abroad.
- 29:59Speaker 2: We did. I feel like I tried to pack it
- 30:01Speaker 2: in as much as possible.
- 30:02Speaker 5: You got to when in Rome as they say, we
- 30:05Speaker 5: were in France.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Okay, thank you?
- 30:07Speaker 5: How did you save money when it came to sightseeing?
- 30:09Speaker 2: All right? So sightseeing I think is a fun one
- 30:12Speaker 2: because it can be really expensive something that is pretty good.
- 30:17Speaker 2: And this is just a good reat cheat tip because
- 30:19Speaker 2: if you book one of those hop on, hop off tours,
- 30:22Speaker 2: especially like around London or something, they'll often be like,
- 30:25Speaker 2: oh you get twenty four or forty eight hours or
- 30:27Speaker 2: whatever it is, hop on, hop off, But why don't
- 30:30Speaker 2: you just use that as public transports so you like
- 30:33Speaker 2: hop on at the location you want to hop on
- 30:35Speaker 2: and then hop off at other locations and kind of
- 30:37Speaker 2: use it for like the twenty four or forty eight
- 30:39Speaker 2: hours you're in that location as public transport instead of
- 30:43Speaker 2: doing the public transport thing in addition to then getting
- 30:45Speaker 2: on a bus. Does that make sense?
- 30:47Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 30:47Speaker 2: Yeah, and I feel like that's really smart. But then
- 30:49Speaker 2: another thing that I love doing when I get to
- 30:52Speaker 2: new locations, and I always do the research beforehand because
- 30:55Speaker 2: it is quite hard to book them in. But it's
- 30:57Speaker 2: a walking tour. So often you have you've done a
- 31:00Speaker 2: walking tour before, George King, I think so not for
- 31:03Speaker 2: a lot to get very eclectic people doing walking to
- 31:06Speaker 2: us leading them or in the leading them, leading them,
- 31:09Speaker 2: And that's like my favorite part of it, because you
- 31:11Speaker 2: get this eccentric local who's just so passionate about where
- 31:14Speaker 2: they live that they want to take you on this
- 31:16Speaker 2: walking tour of their town. And walking tours are usually
- 31:20Speaker 2: like free. You just like usually tip the person or
- 31:23Speaker 2: whatever it is, and I always tear it and make
- 31:25Speaker 2: sure that I'm not, you know, taking advantage of the situation.
- 31:28Speaker 2: But the type of person that does a free walking tour,
- 31:31Speaker 2: I promise you is a very passionate individual who can
- 31:33Speaker 2: tell you where the best pub is, where the best
- 31:35Speaker 2: parmer is, where the best everything is, and all the
- 31:38Speaker 2: hot tips of the location. And it's a good way
- 31:40Speaker 2: to spend a few hours to meet people. And genuinely,
- 31:43Speaker 2: the fact that they're usually free is a money win,
- 31:46Speaker 2: and it's something that I usually do on the first
- 31:49Speaker 2: day or the first night that I'm in a location,
- 31:51Speaker 2: so I can be like, okay, cool, like let's do
- 31:53Speaker 2: the walking tour. We hear, we've put our stuff in
- 31:55Speaker 2: the hotel, let's go gee and we do a walking
- 31:58Speaker 2: tour and then we feel like we have a bit
- 32:00Speaker 2: more of a grounding of the location that we're in.
- 32:03Speaker 2: I have quite literally done them in every country I
- 32:05Speaker 2: have been to, except for London last time because the
- 32:08Speaker 2: girls didn't want to do it because they.
- 32:09Speaker 5: Suck rude from the girlies.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Okay, that gives you a really good activity, but also
- 32:14Speaker 2: the guide will usually have a lot of fun tips
- 32:17Speaker 2: and tricks for the location you're in. Obviously, booking ahead
- 32:20Speaker 2: is really important because if it's free, places are going
- 32:23Speaker 2: to be limited. But trip Advisor, which again not sponsored,
- 32:27Speaker 2: just a good website, usually has really good reviews of
- 32:29Speaker 2: whether it's a good walking tour or not a good
- 32:31Speaker 2: walking tour. And then the next morning I like to
- 32:33Speaker 2: get up and find a local market and go for
- 32:35Speaker 2: a walk through there because I promise they are so
- 32:37Speaker 2: interesting when you're overseas the best.
- 32:40Speaker 4: Just back on the food thing for a little bit,
- 32:43Speaker 4: to go back to the snacks the key I know,
- 32:46Speaker 4: as well as like stocking up at the supermarket and
- 32:48Speaker 4: buying all the local choices, which.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Is obviously a given if you're in France, like, definitely
- 32:53Speaker 2: do it.
- 32:54Speaker 5: Did you buy the brick cheese?
- 32:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that's obviously the best trees and that's obviously the
- 32:58Speaker 2: best cheese. I also don't eat cheese, but while I
- 33:01Speaker 2: was in France, I did have a few sneaky slices
- 33:03Speaker 2: which I shouldn't admit to, but like when in Rome.
- 33:05Speaker 4: Right, not to rude, not to but I think a
- 33:08Speaker 4: lot of people turn their noses up at street vendors,
- 33:11Speaker 4: which won't necessarily be a thing in Europe, but if
- 33:14Speaker 4: you're in somewhere like India or Balis so many people
- 33:18Speaker 4: kind of scoff at that, and I'm like, I'm not
- 33:20Speaker 4: wanting that into my body.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Well, it's not about putting it into my body, like
- 33:24Speaker 2: I want to eat this street.
- 33:25Speaker 4: Fit exactly because that's often the best stuff.
- 33:27Speaker 2: George, I have a sensitive little tummy. I don't want
- 33:30Speaker 2: to spend the next week in my hotel room. I'm
- 33:33Speaker 2: really scared.
- 33:35Speaker 5: So absolutely your call if you're not comfortable with it.
- 33:38Speaker 5: No comfortable, but.
- 33:40Speaker 2: My body, my bow not So I'm here for it, though,
- 33:44Speaker 2: what's you do?
- 33:45Speaker 1: Well?
- 33:45Speaker 4: I think it's like receiving recommendations from the local scene
- 33:48Speaker 4: where there's a lot of people heading and trusting that
- 33:51Speaker 4: that food is going to be immaculate because it so
- 33:53Speaker 4: often is true. There's a show somebody feed Feel It's incredible,
- 33:57Speaker 4: and he goes to the best markets in different places
- 34:00Speaker 4: all over the world and eats like the locals eat,
- 34:02Speaker 4: and it's just it's a very cool, much more authentic,
- 34:04Speaker 4: and much more affordable experience.
- 34:06Speaker 5: So I really like that.
- 34:07Speaker 2: And I also feel like there's a point on turnover, right,
- 34:10Speaker 2: Like if there is a lot of sales going on,
- 34:13Speaker 2: it's not like you're buying some sushi that has been
- 34:15Speaker 2: sitting in the window for the last six hours and
- 34:17Speaker 2: you're just a bit iffy on it, Like if they're
- 34:19Speaker 2: consistently making like when I was in Thailand last time,
- 34:22Speaker 2: like the pad tie that they give you. Did you
- 34:24Speaker 2: get the pad tie in the bag? Like it's literally
- 34:26Speaker 2: my favorite thing in the entire world. Like every time
- 34:29Speaker 2: we were walking back from dinner to our hotel, I'd
- 34:31Speaker 2: be like, yeah, I've got a stomach for a second dinner,
- 34:34Speaker 2: Like this is genius because they like literally flip it
- 34:37Speaker 2: up in front of you and it is some of
- 34:38Speaker 2: the best pad tie I've had in my life. And
- 34:40Speaker 2: then they serve it to you in a plastic bag
- 34:41Speaker 2: with a little plastic fork. Questionable experience, but like the
- 34:45Speaker 2: best food I've had. And I think like eighty bart
- 34:48Speaker 2: or something ridiculously cheap, which is like lessen no dollar here,
- 34:51Speaker 2: So I get it. I think it's really important. But
- 34:54Speaker 2: also turnover, like I feel like waiting in a line
- 34:56Speaker 2: in that situation is a good thing. It's like you
- 34:58Speaker 2: had to wait. That is a outcome.
- 35:01Speaker 4: Before we wrap the we're going to finish off with
- 35:04Speaker 4: a couple of more random tips from you, which I'm
- 35:06Speaker 4: excited for. Last little tip from me before I sign
- 35:09Speaker 4: out is to use the free WiFi at Starbucks at all.
- 35:14Speaker 4: That's a yes. That is a very good tip by itself.
- 35:17Speaker 4: A little caramel frappuccino, you say their store for three hours?
- 35:21Speaker 2: Yeah you look, you say that, but like in London,
- 35:23Speaker 2: the caramel frappuccino fourteen dollars. Do you know what? Nah? No,
- 35:28Speaker 2: But there's usually especially across Europe, there is usually free
- 35:32Speaker 2: Wi Fi at a million different locations. And don't be
- 35:35Speaker 2: shy if you're at a restaurant sitting down for a
- 35:37Speaker 2: drink asking them if they do have Wi Fi, because
- 35:40Speaker 2: it's going to save you money and also they're probably
- 35:42Speaker 2: going to get another drink out of you anyway, because
- 35:44Speaker 2: you like stuck scrolling through Instagram. Everybody wins, man, everybody wins.
- 35:49Speaker 5: Any final tips to wrap it be Lord.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Look, I feel like when we were scripting this episode
- 35:53Speaker 2: and I was writing down all the hot tips that
- 35:54Speaker 2: I had, I feel like I have lots of tips. Obviously,
- 35:57Speaker 2: taking your own snacks is a very good idea. When
- 35:59Speaker 2: I I have these protein bars that I take that
- 36:02Speaker 2: I hide in the bottom of my handbag, so if
- 36:04Speaker 2: I do get stuck, I'm not absolutely starving. I also
- 36:07Speaker 2: really like having access to something that feels like home.
- 36:09Speaker 2: So that's another tip from me. Laundromats if you haven't
- 36:13Speaker 2: booked an airbnb that has a washing machine. So we
- 36:15Speaker 2: booked an airbnb with a washing machine in Paris and
- 36:18Speaker 2: it got the biggest workout of its life, five girls
- 36:21Speaker 2: who all had washing to do. It was like a
- 36:23Speaker 2: roster system. Money win, but use laundromats. Don't carry so
- 36:28Speaker 2: much stuff. Ask miss jessic Riki how much fun it
- 36:31Speaker 2: was pulling a very heavy suitcase over cobblestones, and she'll
- 36:35Speaker 2: tell you that she.
- 36:36Speaker 5: Wishes she'd pass.
- 36:37Speaker 2: She did. Fucked she did. That's because she kept going shopping.
- 36:41Speaker 2: I need out her. But we did have to send
- 36:43Speaker 2: some packages home. I didn't Jessica did. I helped though,
- 36:46Speaker 2: But take a little clothes line. Do you nickers take
- 36:49Speaker 2: some washing powder? I did. I say that as though
- 36:52Speaker 2: you guys are going to be surprised. I don't think
- 36:54Speaker 2: you should be surprised at anything from me anymore. The
- 36:56Speaker 2: other one take a powerboard. Not a money saving tip,
- 36:59Speaker 2: just a sanity, because I promise one, if you're traveling
- 37:02Speaker 2: with other girls, they'll be like has anybody Gottenn adapter
- 37:04Speaker 2: and I can be that absolute hero that goes I've
- 37:07Speaker 2: got one type owerboard, babe, come right this way. And then,
- 37:10Speaker 2: as I've said on our travel Insurance episode, drop box everything,
- 37:14Speaker 2: have access to a digital copy of your passport, your
- 37:17Speaker 2: credit cards, all of your travel documents, all of your
- 37:20Speaker 2: travel itinerary, so that you are always safe and sound.
- 37:23Speaker 2: And also don't feel pressured to book a holiday because
- 37:26Speaker 2: all the Instagram influencers are booking a holiday, or your
- 37:29Speaker 2: mate really wants you to go to Italy with them
- 37:31Speaker 2: and you just can't afford it. Like there's something and
- 37:34Speaker 2: I've said it a million times before, there is something
- 37:37Speaker 2: so sexy about being like, hey, it's not in my budget,
- 37:39Speaker 2: Like it's just not for me at this point in time,
- 37:41Speaker 2: Like you may really really want to go, But I
- 37:44Speaker 2: think that putting ourselves and future selves first is so
- 37:47Speaker 2: important and as much as the experience, Let's be honest,
- 37:50Speaker 2: the experience would be sick. But is that putting future
- 37:53Speaker 2: you in the best possible position. And I guess I'm
- 37:55Speaker 2: a little bit riled up. Well, my feathers are a
- 37:58Speaker 2: little bit ruffled at the moment, because there's a TikTok
- 38:01Speaker 2: trend at the moment. It's basically like, oh, I can
- 38:03Speaker 2: make money back, but I can't always go to the
- 38:05Speaker 2: South of France and you know, swim in the ocean
- 38:07Speaker 2: or whatever it is. And as much as I totally
- 38:10Speaker 2: agree with that, like there has to be some level
- 38:12Speaker 2: of balance in life because it's not about the destination,
- 38:15Speaker 2: it is about the journey as well, I also go, yeah,
- 38:18Speaker 2: but like coming home to crippling debt that gives you
- 38:20Speaker 2: anxiety and makes you more stressed than you were before
- 38:22Speaker 2: the holiday, Like that's not worth it. And I think
- 38:25Speaker 2: that just being really smart about your decisions isn't just
- 38:28Speaker 2: about saying yes all the time. Oh my gosh, yes,
- 38:31Speaker 2: I mean like I want to do that with my girlfriends.
- 38:33Speaker 2: I get it, but like, let's negotiate these things so
- 38:36Speaker 2: everyone could be in the best possible position.
- 38:38Speaker 4: One hundred percent. Mute everyone that's in Europe. I would say, yeah,
- 38:42Speaker 4: just block and block her, block her. It's hard when
- 38:44Speaker 4: it's freezing in Australia at the moment.
- 38:46Speaker 2: I'm blocked me now though to it.
- 38:49Speaker 4: Alrighty, let's leave it there be remember guys, of the
- 38:51Speaker 4: advice sheed and she's on the money is general in

- 39:17Speaker 2: See you on Friday, guys, Bye guys,
