Transcript
- 0:00Have you ever noticed that comparison usually doesn't motivate us in the way that we think
- 0:07it will?
- 0:08Because most of the time it actually just leaves us discouraged, insecure, it leaves
- 0:15us distracted, emotionally overwhelmed, and feeling completely stuck.
- 0:22And maybe you're noticing that right now and it's midweek and you feel like you're in a
- 0:27slump, you're feeling down and you're feeling behind, maybe you're feeling a little discouraged,
- 0:34you're stuck in your head, or you're feeling like everybody is doing life better than you.
- 0:40And slowly comparison starts stealing your peace and your focus and your confidence.
- 0:46So today moms, I want to give you a quick reset plan for when you are feeling yourself
- 0:52get stuck in that comparison trap.
- 0:56If you're tired of people pleasing, caring too much, and wondering why peace still feels
- 1:02so hard to hold on to, you're in the right place.
- 1:05Hi, I'm Lori, mom, former people pleaser, and your boundaries coach.
- 1:11Here we talk about how to protect your peace, set healthier boundaries, and get clear on
- 1:16what actually matters so that you can build a life that feels lighter, calmer, and more
- 1:22satisfying.
- 1:23So let's stop the chaos for a minute moms, catch our breath, and get into this next episode.
- 1:35Welcome back to Healthy Boundaries for Moms.
- 1:37This is your midweek reset.
- 1:40So this week on my previous episode, we talked about why so many moms are losing confidence
- 1:49and how comparison quietly eats away at our peace, our contentment, and even our focus.
- 1:57So if you're hitting that midweek slump, you are feeling that discouragement creep in,
- 2:04you're feeling the weight and the emotional heaviness of it, some insecurities coming
- 2:10in, or just maybe you're mentally stuck.
- 2:13This is the episode for you because we are going to take this moment to pause, to reset,
- 2:23and to reconnect with what actually matters because friend, you do not need to stay trapped
- 2:30there.
- 2:31Okay?
- 2:32So first part of our reset is going to be recentering yourself.
- 2:37So what is the first step when you feel like it's out of control or you're stuck?
- 2:43I want you to recenter yourself because the first thing to do when you notice comparison
- 2:51is taking over is this recentering because comparison usually comes with overstimulation,
- 2:59right?
- 3:00Because we're scrolling too much, we have too much noise, there's too much input going
- 3:05on, we have too many opinions coming at us, or maybe we're just studying everybody else's
- 3:11life.
- 3:13And eventually your brain is like getting overwhelmed and emotionally dysregulated.
- 3:20So before we try to fix anything, we need to stop and we need to calm our nervous system.
- 3:26Okay?
- 3:27So that may mean you need to put the phone down.
- 3:30Okay?
- 3:31Maybe you need to shut the TV off.
- 3:34You need to step away from the social media.
- 3:38And you need to get quiet for a little while.
- 3:42And then reconnecting with your actual real life through something tactile.
- 3:49What do I mean by tactile?
- 3:50I mean, you can touch it, feel it, smell it, taste it.
- 3:54Okay?
- 3:55This will help us to calm down.
- 3:57So some examples of that would be go for a walk, read a book, an actual book.
- 4:02Okay?
- 4:03Take a bath.
- 4:04Maybe you want to sit outside.
- 4:06Journal.
- 4:07You can pray or meditate.
- 4:10Maintain one small space.
- 4:12Okay?
- 4:13Because these kinds of activities help us to regulate our nervous system and it will
- 4:18help you to reconnect with the current and present moment instead of being stuck in that
- 4:24comparison spiral.
- 4:26You cannot think clearly while being constantly overstimulated.
- 4:32And I love what Psalm 46 10 says, be still and know that I am God.
- 4:40Sometimes guys, we need to just quiet the noise long enough to connect with God, to
- 4:46ourselves and to the life that's right in front of us.
- 4:51Okay.
- 4:52So number two, reconnect with what you actually wouldn't trade.
- 4:57So one thing I've noticed when I get stuck in this trap, as I start focusing on what
- 5:02I don't have, instead of reconnecting with the things that I deeply value in my own life
- 5:10and sometimes I have to stop and remind myself, wait, okay, there are so many things in my
- 5:14life I would actually never trade.
- 5:17Like I wouldn't trade my kids for anybody else's kids.
- 5:20I wouldn't trade my husband.
- 5:22I mean on most days I wouldn't trade my husband.
- 5:24I'm just kidding.
- 5:25I wouldn't trade the home I live in or the neighborhood.
- 5:28I love my neighborhood that we're in.
- 5:32And I wouldn't trade the growth that I've experienced in my mental health, in my health
- 5:39journey.
- 5:40I've gained muscle.
- 5:41I've lost weight and I'm becoming stronger physically and mentally every single day.
- 5:47And I think comparison just creates this temporary type of blindness where we stop seeing the
- 5:53goodness that's already in our life currently.
- 5:58Because comparison is like taking a magnifying glass to look at what we're lacking while
- 6:06really just minimizing over here with what we actually love about our life.
- 6:12And if we're honest, most of us wouldn't actually trade lives with the people we're comparing
- 6:17ourselves to.
- 6:18We're usually just emotionally fixated on this one part of their life.
- 6:24And that's why contentment matters so much.
- 6:28In Philippians 4, Paul says, I have learned to be content in whatever the circumstances.
- 6:34So contentment is just something that we learn.
- 6:37We have to practice it.
- 6:39In comparison, it's the enemy of contentment and satisfaction.
- 6:44So here's the third step.
- 6:46I want you to create some quick wins in the areas that matter to you.
- 6:53So when we are comparing, it's actually leaving us focused on everything that we aren't doing,
- 7:00right?
- 7:01And the longer we sit in that discouragement, the more stuck we get and the more stuck we
- 7:06feel.
- 7:07So instead, instead of spiraling emotionally, we need to try to create some kind of movement.
- 7:14It doesn't need to be perfect.
- 7:16We're not doing this extreme overhaul.
- 7:18We're just taking one intentional step forward.
- 7:22So the win that you're going to try to create is going to be in the area that you are feeling
- 7:26some discouragement about.
- 7:28So if one of the areas is health, maybe a quick win would be go for a walk, get more
- 7:34steps in.
- 7:35Or maybe you're lacking protein.
- 7:37So make a shake that has protein.
- 7:39Or maybe you just didn't meet your water goal or you wish you drank more water.
- 7:43Well go ahead and do that.
- 7:44Go ahead and get yourself some water.
- 7:47And I've also noticed that if I'm feeling disconnected relationally, maybe the win for
- 7:53me is just having a quick conversation that I've been avoiding.
- 7:57Or maybe if it's a longer conversation, I need to schedule intentional time with maybe
- 8:03my husband or my kids.
- 8:05Or how about putting my phone down and really trying to connect with my kids instead of
- 8:10that distracted connection that we do sometimes.
- 8:14So if I've been feeling stressed financially, a quick win would look like simply evaluating
- 8:22how I handled money that day.
- 8:24Like what was the good things that I did?
- 8:26What were the things I want to work on?
- 8:28And without the shame, I'm just getting awareness so that I can make some changes.
- 8:34Because quick wins create momentum and momentum helps rebuild our confidence.
- 8:40And then our confidence will grow after we've taken the action.
- 8:45We got to remember that.
- 8:46Not before, but after we take that action.
- 8:49And I love what Zachariah 410 says.
- 8:52It says, do not despise these small beginnings.
- 8:56So intentional steps matter more than what we give it.
- 9:00We don't give it enough value.
- 9:03So friend, comparison is one of the fastest ways for us to lose peace, to lose our confidence
- 9:10and our focus.
- 9:12But you do not need to completely reinvent your life when this happens.
- 9:17We just need to, one, recenter ourselves and reconnect.
- 9:22We need to focus on the value of what's in your actual life, like what you would not
- 9:27trade and take one small, faithful step forward.
- 9:32So if you've been feeling stuck, you've been feeling discouraged, insecure, behind, I want
- 9:38you to stop looking over here and looking over there and start faithfully walking in
- 9:44the life God already gave you.
- 9:47And I truly hope this helps you with the rest of your week and the weeks going forward
- 9:52because I want you to reconnect with the peace that you are supposed to have.
- 9:57And I want you to reconnect with confidence.
- 9:59And I hope you remember that you do not need to become somebody else to have value, purpose
- 10:06and worth.
- 10:07You are already deeply loved by God and exactly where you are supposed to be.
- 10:12And like my mentor always used to say, you're alright already.
