Transcript
- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Do you have an inner voice that is quite critical, quite harsh,
- 0:43telling you that you can't do stuff, can't learn stuff, that
- 0:45you're not as good as other people?
- 0:48If so, you might get some value from this session.
- 0:50It's Adam here, and I was working with a client that grew
- 0:54up with quite a critical mother. It seemed quite harsh, and their
- 1:00own mother had gone through a lot of trauma, and there's a
- 1:04cliche in therapy that hurt people, hurt people.
- 1:07And that was certainly true in that case.
- 1:11Some of her early memories almost created this feeling of
- 1:14not being good enough, not feeling capable enough.
- 1:18And that was taking its toll even as an adult.
- 1:22This hypnosis session does element of regression,
- 1:25disassociated regression, some inner child work where it's
- 1:30actually working with that part that learn to kind of doubt
- 1:33themselves rather than trust themselves to release guilt.
- 1:36But also turning that critical or judgmental voice into an
- 1:40encouraging coaching type of voice so that they could still
- 1:45get the value from the positive intention, which was to avoid
- 1:48mistakes and prepare and grow and increase standards, but
- 1:52without feeling belittled and sabotage by what they were
- 1:55doing. So if you could relate to any of
- 1:57these things, you might get a lot of value from this session.
- 2:00It was created for an individual.
- 2:02It's unlikely that there was a harsh memory between you and
- 2:07your mother at 7 years old, and that's featured in this
- 2:10particular hypnosis session. So you can just ignore any
- 2:14suggestions that don't quite fit and enable your imagination to
- 2:17fill in the gaps with what would be suitable or relevant for you.
- 2:22But if you do like the idea of a bespoke session, me working with
- 2:25you as your hypnotherapist, then there will be a link in the
- 2:28description where you can schedule that completely free
- 2:30consultation call. We'll have a chat and who knows,
- 2:33we might end up working together.
- 2:35For now though, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 2:38won't be disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 3:03Take a deep breath in and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 3:13feeling of pure relaxation. And as you exhale, just release
- 3:21any tension around your eyelids. And as you breathe out, feel a
- 3:27sense of release of any guilt, any shame, any feelings of
- 3:36inferiority, gradually, each breath releasing in.
- 3:43And as you breathe in, breathe in.
- 3:46Not just relaxation, but a sense of worthiness and capability.
- 3:54In fact, I want you to imagine 3 colours.
- 4:00A color that represents relaxation, like a glowing
- 4:05color. A color that represents
- 4:08worthiness as a different color. Add a color that represents
- 4:15capability. And just imagine a fusion of
- 4:20those three colors. And as you breathe in, breathe
- 4:24in those colors. Imagine going in through your
- 4:28nose, down your windpipe, into your lungs.
- 4:32And imagine your heart in the same way that it takes oxygen to
- 4:36every cell, taking that feeling of relaxation, worthiness and
- 4:43capability to every cell in your body, and in doing so, releases
- 4:52the opposite. Any tension, any feeling of
- 4:58being incapable, unworthy, is being released.
- 5:07You can't have an ice cube in a sauna, and you can't have
- 5:12tension in a place of relaxation.
- 5:17You can't have unworthiness where worthiness exists.
- 5:23Breathe in that fusion of colors, and as you exhale,
- 5:28imagine a dark grey shadowy colour leaving your body in your
- 5:33outward breath, representing any tension and capability
- 5:39unworthiness. Imagine it leaving your body
- 5:44almost like an emotional transfusion, breathing in the
- 5:49resources you need and releasing any blocks, any barriers, any
- 6:00old beliefs or coping strategies that have been holding you back.
- 6:05That's it. Each breath takes you deeper and
- 6:11deeper, relaxed. As your body relaxes, your
- 6:17imagination awakens. And I want you to imagine a
- 6:22photo album, one of those big leather bound books, each Page 3
- 6:29or 4 photos. And I want you to imagine
- 6:34flicking through pictures from your childhood, not just
- 6:38pictures that were actually taken, but representations of
- 6:44significant memories from your past.
- 6:49But I want you to look at these pictures with new eyes, wise of
- 6:55empathy, understanding. And I want you to imagine seeing
- 7:04a photo that almost starts to glow.
- 7:10Perhaps it's when you were seven years old in a bathroom.
- 7:20Perhaps there was a hair dryer and someone was drying their
- 7:23hair, but I want you to see it as a picture, not back in your
- 7:31body. And I want you to turn that
- 7:35picture into a movie, seeing the picture turn into a video and
- 7:41just observe what happened like you're looking at it there in
- 7:47the photo album. And I want you to get a sense of
- 7:54new clues you didn't realize at the time, a question being asked
- 8:02from a place of curiosity and connection and a response that
- 8:09was just a narrative programming that was said without thinking.
- 8:19And sometimes people play the victim because what they really
- 8:24want is sympathy, understanding, connection.
- 8:33And I want you to see that memory with new eyes, but I want
- 8:40you to imagine. Imagine going back in time one
- 8:47hour before that memory. Imagine seeing yourself in your
- 8:51own bedroom and floating back to that memory.
- 8:57You at your current age and that version of you at just seven
- 9:02years old. And I want you to tell that 7
- 9:08year old version of you that you are them from the future.
- 9:15And maybe there's a look of disbelief, skepticism.
- 9:21I want you to imagine telling that younger version of you a
- 9:25secret that only they would know, to prove that you are them
- 9:31from the future. Maybe it was a memory they have
- 9:35and no one else knew about it. And once you've convinced them
- 9:41that you are them from the future, let me know by nodding
- 9:45your head. I want you to tell that 7 year
- 9:52old version of you, all of the things that that version of you
- 9:58really needed to hear. You are loved, you are capable,
- 10:05you are special. Maybe some of the things you
- 10:11didn't hear so much from your mother.
- 10:13Imagine saying that to that 7 year old version of you.
- 10:22And then I want you to listen. Some of the challenges, the
- 10:27frustrations, even sadness they're going through, just
- 10:32listen. Make them feel heard,
- 10:37understood. Give them a hug if it helps.
- 10:41And I want you to feel, feel, feel that you're helping that
- 10:52younger version of you. And tell them.
- 10:58Tell them that in an hour's time, they'll ask a question
- 11:03about what it felt like to be inside your mother while they
- 11:08were pregnant. But tell them in advance that
- 11:12their response will be a trigger, a reaction, nothing
- 11:18personal. And tell them that their
- 11:24response will be because they've gone through a lot in life and
- 11:30feel that they don't have the understanding and sympathy that
- 11:32they deserve, so they try and create it from situations that
- 11:37don't justify it. Tell them exactly what they will
- 11:43ask and what they will respond. And tell them that it means
- 11:49nothing other than their mother really craves for understanding.
- 12:06I want you to imagine now going forwards in time, one hour,
- 12:13observing how that 7 year old version of you ask the questions
- 12:18and the mother says exactly what they said.
- 12:22But notice that 7 year old version of you feels no guilt,
- 12:30feels no shame, feels no sadness.
- 12:33Instead hugs their mother and says something like I know
- 12:43you've gone through a lot, maybe they express their love,
- 12:52understanding, even sympathy. But there is no guilt in that
- 12:58child because the guilt was never true and was never theirs.
- 13:07And when you've seen that and it feels like a bonding connection
- 13:12rather than a traumatic memory, let me know by nodding your
- 13:17head. That's it.
- 13:22Rewinding before the conversation was even asked,
- 13:27step into that 7 year old and ask the same question that she
- 13:31asked. What did it feel like when I was
- 13:35inside you, there in your belly? Hear your mother saying exactly
- 13:42what they said. This time it feels different,
- 13:48like a cry for help, a cry for connection.
- 13:54Maybe you respond with I'm glad you did, I'm glad you're here,
- 14:04I'm glad you didn't die. And then give them a hug and
- 14:10just feel that connection, even briefly as you leave that room.
- 14:19Notice there is no guilt, no shame, no sadness, just a sense
- 14:26of wisdom. Nobody's perfect.
- 14:31Everyone's carrying their own pain, their own burdens.
- 14:37And then imagine, imagine floating back and seeing that
- 14:42photo album and then flicking to a different page, A page when
- 14:50you were slightly older, maybe a teenager, young adult, at a time
- 14:58when you were on a holiday, maybe near a beach.
- 15:03Step into that beach and find yourself there.
- 15:10You need to imagine seeing that version of you as a young adult.
- 15:17They remember you from when they were seven and just listen.
- 15:25Listen to what they're going through.
- 15:26Any anger, any pain, any frustrations, any confusion,
- 15:32Just listen. But I want you to tell them all
- 15:38the things that you would have wanted to have heard and been
- 15:41reassured of back then because that version of you didn't know
- 15:46what you would achieve later. So tell them.
- 15:52Tell them all the things you've accomplished and look at their
- 15:57face in amazement because that younger version of you didn't
- 16:02believe it was possible. And yet there you are as
- 16:06evidence that it is. And certain things must be true
- 16:14for you to have done what you've done.
- 16:18You must be smart. You must be able to learn
- 16:20things. You must be capable.
- 16:23You have the ability to make a mistake and learn from it.
- 16:27All of that must be true in order for you to do what you've
- 16:30done. And when that younger version of
- 16:33you believes in, let me know by nodding your head.
- 16:40That's it. And I want you to imagine
- 16:44somewhere on that beach looks like a door.
- 16:51A door to an elevator, not connected to a building, just
- 16:56there on the beach. Press the button and imagine it
- 17:00takes you down as you walk into the elevator, down into a
- 17:04basement that is the control room of your mind.
- 17:09When the elevator opens, walk into the control room and see
- 17:14lots of dials and switches and a big screen there in the middle.
- 17:17And I want you to imagine seeing a dial that says self criticism,
- 17:28and maybe it's on A7 or an 8, but I want you to imagine
- 17:33dialing it down to A5 or A4, setting new criteria.
- 17:41Then you are eager to learn from anything that could be improved
- 17:46on. But I want you to imagine that
- 17:50the way in which you learn from experience is through
- 17:55encouragement, inspiration, and experimentation, trying
- 18:03different things. And as you dial that switch, I
- 18:08want you to imagine that voice, that critical voice is still
- 18:14there, but with a new tone. You've got this.
- 18:18You can do this. We can make this even better.
- 18:23When the tonality shifts, your emotions shift too.
- 18:28I want you to unlock a desire to try new things in the spirit of
- 18:37constant improvement. Not because you're getting it
- 18:40wrong, but simply because everything can be enhanced,
- 18:47improved, evolved. And if that old voice, that
- 18:56harsh, critical voice comes back, you will feel empowered to
- 19:00handle that voice as you would with a real person.
- 19:04Enough. No more.
- 19:09You do not talk to me like that. You only respond if they are
- 19:14encouraging, inspiring, but critical, shameful.
- 19:24No, no more. And imagine there is a version
- 19:32of you that represents yourself worth.
- 19:38And I want you to dial up your worthiness but also recalibrate
- 19:44your level of consideration. You can be considerate without
- 19:50being apologetic. You can be thoughtful and kind
- 19:55without being a people pleaser. On that big screen, I want you
- 20:01to imagine that as you increase your worthiness and decrease the
- 20:07need to people please and apologize for things that don't
- 20:10need to be apologized, I want you to see on that screen
- 20:15memories. Memories of when you were too
- 20:20apologetic. People please too much but other
- 20:25needs before your own and recalibrate it so you start to
- 20:30see yourself exactly as you would have been if these changes
- 20:35were applied to your past. And when you see the changes,
- 20:44see yourself more confident, more direct, encouraging rather
- 20:50than apologetic, supportive but not needy.
- 20:56And see yourself in social situations, curious, seeking
- 21:02inspiration like reconnaissance, like you're a secret spy, not
- 21:07because you are unworthy, but simply because you have an
- 21:12eagerness to improve. And once you've seen those
- 21:18changes, let me know by nodding your head.
- 21:23And the final thing is about your capability.
- 21:29See a dial that represents your current level of capability and
- 21:35notice there is two different dials, your actual capability
- 21:41and then a bug in the system of second guessing.
- 21:46Your actual capability is incredibly high.
- 21:49A9 or A10. You believe that you can learn
- 21:54anything you need to, but also see that second guessing, the
- 22:02part of you that tries to sabotage your progress by
- 22:06telling you that you don't know how.
- 22:09And I want you to imagine the second guessing as a good
- 22:15intention of protection, but you're giving that part a new
- 22:20responsibility. They are now your internal life
- 22:25coach. If you don't know how, it is
- 22:30their responsibility to help you figure out how to learn it.
- 22:36They don't get to be the critic on the sidelines pointing out
- 22:42the faults. They are now responsible.
- 22:45They're helping you organize your thoughts, figure out what
- 22:52you can learn and how you can learn it, and encourage you to
- 22:56try new things until that knowledge becomes a skill and
- 23:01the skill becomes an experience. And then on that screen, see
- 23:06yourself one year from now doing the kind of work which would be
- 23:12deeply fulfilling, that would encourage that version of you to
- 23:19make a difference to the lives of other people.
- 23:22And in doing so, be deeply fulfilling for you.
- 23:28And that future version of you would have needed to have
- 23:32learned lots of things to see yourself.
- 23:38Almost like a montage of those different ways of learning.
- 23:44Mentorship courses, experience books, podcasts or videos.
- 23:53I want you to get a sense that there are infinite ways of
- 23:56learning. The question isn't can you learn
- 24:01or even do you know how? The better question is what is
- 24:08most useful for you to learn right now that enhances your
- 24:13life the most? The way to eat an elephant is 1
- 24:19bite at a time, so you reject the idea of needing to know
- 24:24everything and instead willing to lay the tracks while the
- 24:30train is in motion to learn as you go and see that future
- 24:39version of you smiling. See yourself confident in the
- 24:45company of friends that used to intimidate or make you feel
- 24:49unworthy. When you can see that future
- 24:53that seems appealing, desirable, and wonderful.
- 24:58Let me know about nodding your head and just float into that
- 25:03screen briefly. Feel how good it would feel a
- 25:05year from now. With all of these wonderful
- 25:08changes, that inner critic is now a voice of encouragement.
- 25:16The part that would second guess is now your internal life coach
- 25:20guiding you and notice how you feel worthy, grateful,
- 25:28confident, no matter who is around you or what the
- 25:31circumstances are. But also with enough humility
- 25:38that if you do make a mistake, you take ownership and learn
- 25:41from it. And if you do upset someone
- 25:46based on something you've done wrong, you don't mind
- 25:49apologizing because it's the right thing to do.
- 25:56Float back into that control room.
- 25:59Walk to the elevator. Press the number that represents
- 26:04the top. Find yourself walking out on
- 26:05that beach. Imagine going backwards through
- 26:09a photograph of a beach. And then imagine very close to
- 26:17being back to the here and now. But as you return, you will take
- 26:22all of these wonderful changes with you, understanding that
- 26:26this has been a journey within your imagination, A journey of
- 26:33thoughts within thoughts, ideas within ideas, and dreams within
- 26:39dreams. Starting to count from 1:00 to
- 26:4310:00 to awaken you 123 Waking up 456 More alert 7-8 Open your
- 26:53eyes. Open your eyes, 910.
