- 1:04Speaker 3: the absolute privilege of sitting down with one of our incredible.
- 1:07Speaker 3: She's on the money community members and talking all about
- 1:10Speaker 3: their journey. Let's jump straight into it, because this week
- 1:13Speaker 3: I got a message and it sounded exactly like this
- 1:17Speaker 3: high she's on the money. After having kids and getting divorced,
- 1:21Speaker 3: I set off on a journey learning to live life
- 1:24Speaker 3: as a single mum. I went from being in a
- 1:26Speaker 3: relationship where we owed money to everyone to being a
- 1:30Speaker 3: solo mum who got to really enjoy life. I found
- 1:33Speaker 3: a new love, we moved in together, and after speaking
- 1:36Speaker 3: with a broker in October last year, we were so
- 1:39Speaker 3: surprised at how soon we could get into the property market.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Six months later, we have a deposit, saved, a block,
- 1:45Speaker 3: waiting for titles, and hope to start building our new
- 1:49Speaker 3: home in a few months. It's been a dream come true,
- 1:53Speaker 3: money Diarist, But you never saw this coming.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Absolutely not. Yeah, far off my plan when I was
- 2:00Speaker 2: sort of a teenager, but seat of actually getting there
- 2:02Speaker 2: onto that track. But it's been a journey, Oh my goodness.
- 2:06Speaker 3: All right, before we get into it, I want to
- 2:08Speaker 3: know what grade would you give your money habits from
- 2:10Speaker 3: A through to F.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Probably maybe like A B minus B minus.
- 2:14Speaker 3: All right, let's go with it. I want to know
- 2:16Speaker 3: more about it. Can you tell me a little bit
- 2:18Speaker 3: more about your money story and the things that have
- 2:20Speaker 3: impacted it.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely started is st of way back when I
- 2:24Speaker 2: was seventeen. I had to move out a home to
- 2:25Speaker 2: go to UNI. I lived in a little, little rural town.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I had to move to a city, so that was
- 2:29Speaker 2: a big change. Seventeen year olds don't know too much
- 2:32Speaker 2: about money, so we go straight in my partner at
- 2:35Speaker 2: the time. We moved into a rental and set off
- 2:37Speaker 2: through that. I had my first son while I was
- 2:39Speaker 2: at UNI and decided not to finish my degree. And
- 2:42Speaker 2: then yeah, we decided to move to a regional town
- 2:45Speaker 2: after having our little one because it was very expensive
- 2:47Speaker 2: in a city and we just wanted to live that
- 2:49Speaker 2: regional life. Things that have happened through COVID. I had
- 2:53Speaker 2: another child, then separated from my ex husband, and then yeah,
- 2:58Speaker 2: set off on my own was a very very different experience. Obviously,
- 3:02Speaker 2: having to go from two incomes, like always having someone
- 3:06Speaker 2: around to everything was my responsibility, so it was like
- 3:10Speaker 2: a culture shop and a half.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Absolutely, And it's not like you get married with the
- 3:15Speaker 3: intention of divorcing somebody, so like, no going through the
- 3:18Speaker 3: emotional journey of going, well, now this isn't working out.
- 3:22Speaker 3: What was that? Like, what kind of emotional and mental
- 3:26Speaker 3: journey you going on when those decisions are being made.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Yeah, it was tricky, Like a lot of it was
- 3:31Speaker 2: sort of around like what's best for the kids and
- 3:33Speaker 2: what was best for myself? Like I saw just sort
- 3:36Speaker 2: of seeing people around me doing all these things that
- 3:38Speaker 2: I just wasn't able to do, and it just felt
- 3:40Speaker 2: like I was going nowhere. So it was sort of
- 3:42Speaker 2: a conversation where I guess our lives just went in
- 3:45Speaker 2: different directions. We had different goals, and like nobody wanted
- 3:49Speaker 2: to hold each other back anymore. So, Yeah, I moved
- 3:51Speaker 2: out of the home, set off, got my own little rental.
- 3:54Speaker 2: I was probably only earning about nine hundred dollars a week.
- 3:57Speaker 2: The rental was about four twenty five a weeks, so
- 4:00Speaker 2: it's a huge shift, but we made it work. But yeah,
- 4:03Speaker 2: thankfully I work in a commission sort of based role
- 4:05Speaker 2: and did them as well, so I sort of had
- 4:08Speaker 2: to wiggle my way around and work out how does
- 4:11Speaker 2: sort of work around that? But the commissions were a
- 4:12Speaker 2: bit of a saving grace and once I got my
- 4:14Speaker 2: feet on the ground. I started loving life.
- 4:17Speaker 3: I love this, and then you met someone new I did.
- 4:21Speaker 3: What does a money conversation look like? Because obviously I'm
- 4:25Speaker 3: just going to make some assumptions here. You can clear
- 4:27Speaker 3: them up for me. When you got married, you probably
- 4:30Speaker 3: just like drifted into a money relationship, like you decided
- 4:33Speaker 3: to have kids, you just things start to work. What
- 4:35Speaker 3: are the money conversations like, once you've been through all
- 4:38Speaker 3: of that, you have kids, you've got your own I
- 4:39Speaker 3: guess financial security. Now, what does it look like having
- 4:44Speaker 3: new conversations?
- 4:45Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, So I was very sort of open and
- 4:47Speaker 2: honest about my history, which in turn they are also
- 4:50Speaker 2: very open about their history. We both sort have talked
- 4:53Speaker 2: about where we've been and where we're out. I spoke
- 4:55Speaker 2: about I didn't have a week where we didn't owe
- 4:58Speaker 2: money when I was in my marriage, and that was
- 5:01Speaker 2: a spiraling situation, like when you owe people money, you
- 5:04Speaker 2: go get to the next week, you pay them back,
- 5:06Speaker 2: and then by the end of the week you're back
- 5:07Speaker 2: to square one again, like you need money for nappies
- 5:10Speaker 2: or petrol, all those sorts of things. So, because I'd
- 5:14Speaker 2: pulled myself out of that situation when I was single,
- 5:17Speaker 2: I started saving money. I just went, I don't want
- 5:19Speaker 2: to be in that situation ever again. I'd paid off
- 5:22Speaker 2: a car by myself, I'd been paying rent by myself,
- 5:26Speaker 2: and I just basically decided that, like from there on, like,
- 5:30Speaker 2: if someone were to come into my life, they need
- 5:31Speaker 2: to add value to my life and not make things harder.
- 5:35Speaker 2: So I was very upfront, like I'm not going to
- 5:37Speaker 2: financially uphold you, like we'll be separate in our sort
- 5:40Speaker 2: of ways. So yeah, like once we decided to move
- 5:42Speaker 2: in together, we just went, all right, everything's split down
- 5:45Speaker 2: the middle. We've got our own separate accounts, we've got
- 5:47Speaker 2: our savings account, but we're our own independent people. So
- 5:51Speaker 2: that sort of helps both of us be our own
- 5:54Speaker 2: person but sort of still have our relationship at the
- 5:58Speaker 2: same time, and it just works.
- 5:59Speaker 3: I feel like that is just so positive and just
- 6:02Speaker 3: so healthy, and not every relationship starts with like, Okay,
- 6:06Speaker 3: well this is how we're going to manage money, and
- 6:07Speaker 3: we're going to split it here and these are the plans,
- 6:09Speaker 3: and you feel so I don't know, at peace with
- 6:12Speaker 3: the decisions you're making because you're making them as opposed
- 6:15Speaker 3: to falling into them. Is this something that you're like, no,
- 6:18Speaker 3: it just makes our relationship so much stronger. Or is
- 6:20Speaker 3: this something where you're like, we don't even think about it,
- 6:23Speaker 3: Like how does that impact you?
- 6:24Speaker 2: I think it does make us stronger because it just
- 6:27Speaker 2: allows us to be our own independent people. And that's
- 6:30Speaker 2: like coming from a not so healthy a relationship where
- 6:33Speaker 2: money was always such a big issue. It was always
- 6:36Speaker 2: all like who spent on what? And how much do
- 6:40Speaker 2: we have left? And can I buy this? We don't
- 6:42Speaker 2: have those conversations. It's you've got your own money. If
- 6:44Speaker 2: you want to buy something, you go for it, Like
- 6:47Speaker 2: just as long as it's sort of not out of
- 6:49Speaker 2: you know, the joint money. Like we have conversations around
- 6:52Speaker 2: all like we want to go to that concept? Do
- 6:54Speaker 2: we want to sort of use our joint savor for that?
- 6:56Speaker 2: So it ends up being so much more a team effort,
- 7:00Speaker 2: but without feeling like anyone has to step on toes
- 7:03Speaker 2: or tiptoe around any issues. And it's just so nice.
- 7:06Speaker 3: How did you get to that place? Because like coming
- 7:09Speaker 3: from and like I don't want to throw your marriage
- 7:11Speaker 3: that you had under the bus, but how did you
- 7:14Speaker 3: go from that would have been so stressful? Right, like
- 7:16Speaker 3: oweing people money every single week and then obviously trying
- 7:19Speaker 3: to change and being like I'm never going to do
- 7:21Speaker 3: that again. That's not how I want to live my life.
- 7:23Speaker 3: But you still would carry those feelings, right, like how
- 7:27Speaker 3: have you been dealing with that? And just the change
- 7:30Speaker 3: of your money story because it's so significant, but it's
- 7:32Speaker 3: not easy.
- 7:34Speaker 2: No, no, So a lot of it was like I
- 7:36Speaker 2: counted my time where I was just a single mom
- 7:38Speaker 2: as like my self growth era. So that's where I
- 7:41Speaker 2: started doing a lot of research and I first fell
- 7:43Speaker 2: into Glenn James and then it sort of spiraled from there.
- 7:46Speaker 3: You're aways spiral after meeting Glenny James, absolutely, yeah, but
- 7:51Speaker 3: then it just sort of went like I realized just
- 7:53Speaker 3: how big of an impact financials were on a relationship,
- 7:57Speaker 3: and it ended up being a straight up conversation.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Like even when I started dating, it was like, all right,
- 8:02Speaker 2: what is your situation? Like this is mine? What are
- 8:05Speaker 2: your goals? How do you want to function? So I'm
- 8:08Speaker 2: straight out like I have kids, I've got my own responsibilities,
- 8:11Speaker 2: Like everyone's situation looks so different, but I was just
- 8:16Speaker 2: I'm straight up, I'm very honest, and we'll just tell
- 8:19Speaker 2: everyone straight up, like I this is not open for negotiation, Like,
- 8:23Speaker 2: I'm not going to have financial control over you. You're
- 8:26Speaker 2: not going to have financial control over me. So it's
- 8:29Speaker 2: at that scared anyone away. That's up to them. But yeah, yeah,
- 8:32Speaker 2: I think you've just especially as a female, you've got
- 8:34Speaker 2: to really stand your ground and say like, this is
- 8:37Speaker 2: this is how it will work. Love.
- 8:39Speaker 3: Now tell me what do you do for? How much
- 8:41Speaker 3: money do you earn?
- 8:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm in sales. I have a base salary of
- 8:44Speaker 2: about seventy thousand a year. Currently, to date, i've earned
- 8:48Speaker 2: one twenty, so I'm aiming for a one forty. It's
- 8:53Speaker 2: very heavily commission based, works well when your money oriented.
- 8:56Speaker 2: But yes, aiming for one forty.
- 8:58Speaker 4: I love that.
- 8:59Speaker 3: I feel like that's such an attractive career. Right, So
- 9:02Speaker 3: so many people are like, I don't know, I want
- 9:04Speaker 3: to make good money. I'm good at talking to people
- 9:07Speaker 3: like how did you get into sales? Was that something
- 9:10Speaker 3: where you know year twelve or where an envy you've
- 9:12Speaker 3: finished school, You're like, I'm going to go into sales
- 9:14Speaker 3: and I'm going to make commission. You don't understand that structure?
- 9:17Speaker 3: How does this happen?
- 9:18Speaker 2: Yeah? So I'm not very like you want to employ
- 9:20Speaker 2: me kind of person. So when I was in Uni,
- 9:23Speaker 2: I worked for Ikia, so I just worked in like
- 9:26Speaker 2: retail spaces. I worked my way through to doing kitchen planning. Cool.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Then when I moved regionally, I told a local cabinet
- 9:32Speaker 2: maker that they wanted to hire me. So they did.
- 9:35Speaker 3: And you know what, I think life meets you at
- 9:38Speaker 3: the level of audacity you choose to have.
- 9:40Speaker 2: I agree, yeah, And then I did that same approach
- 9:42Speaker 2: and moved into new homes good girl, and said you
- 9:45Speaker 2: want to hire me. And then from there was I
- 9:47Speaker 2: able to sort of transition into the business. I'm in now,
- 9:50Speaker 2: so I sell sheds. Cool, but I just got I
- 9:54Speaker 2: got poached for that job. So it was one of
- 9:56Speaker 2: those things. But because of my history of working in sales,
- 9:59Speaker 2: like if you can sell you home like you're selling
- 10:00Speaker 2: a piece of paper, I was told you can basically
- 10:02Speaker 2: sell anything, absolutely yeah. And the big change of that
- 10:05Speaker 2: was only just to eliminate working weekends, because having young
- 10:09Speaker 2: children working weekends doesn't work the best. So I found
- 10:11Speaker 2: myself pushy Monday to Friday with really good bonuses.
- 10:16Speaker 3: I love this, and you're selling sheds.
- 10:18Speaker 2: I'm selling sheds.
- 10:20Speaker 3: And you're on track to make one forty a year
- 10:22Speaker 3: for it. You are an icon.
- 10:23Speaker 2: How good is that? Sales has a bad rat, but
- 10:27Speaker 2: it's not a bad job.
- 10:28Speaker 3: I don't know. I loved like having had a similar background,
- 10:32Speaker 3: like all through UNI and like school, I was doing
- 10:34Speaker 3: sales based jobs like re retail and stuff, and I
- 10:37Speaker 3: remember being like, I love this, Like I love talking
- 10:40Speaker 3: to people, and it's just such a fun job. So
- 10:43Speaker 3: if that's something that you're good at, maybe that's the
- 10:45Speaker 3: like more corporate version.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I talk all day so even if I'm not
- 10:50Speaker 2: at work, people tell me I talk too much. So
- 10:52Speaker 2: it's perfect for my personality.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Well, that happened to me at school. That's say, Victorian
- 10:56Speaker 3: is so good at what she does, she just needs
- 10:59Speaker 3: to focus. She just needs to stop talking to all
- 11:01Speaker 3: the other kids in class. And how did that work
- 11:03Speaker 3: out for me? I got myr own show, so exactly.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Life meets you at the level of audacity that you have.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Absolutely, I'm getting paid to do what I was told
- 11:13Speaker 2: not to do.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Exactly. It can't be that hard, right, No money does
- 11:19Speaker 3: tell me? What are your big money goals? What are
- 11:20Speaker 3: you currently working towards? Life looks a little bit different
- 11:23Speaker 3: than it used to do. So have those things.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Shifted Yeah, definitely. So, as I said in my diary,
- 11:30Speaker 2: we are hopefully building a house. We've actually put our
- 11:32Speaker 2: pre approvals in this morning, so it's really really scary.
- 11:35Speaker 3: So someone sold you a house.
- 11:37Speaker 2: I love this. Yeah, yeah, so not yet. We actually
- 11:39Speaker 2: have a block on hold, so we're hoping to build.
- 11:42Speaker 2: So yeah, pre approvals are in this morning. We're with
- 11:44Speaker 2: the builder trying to get our plan to organized. It
- 11:47Speaker 2: is it is, but yeah, it was a bit of
- 11:49Speaker 2: a big shock. So matte Ye, our biggest goal is
- 11:51Speaker 2: to obviously get this house built, and then once that's
- 11:53Speaker 2: done that I'd like to start building up shares. I
- 11:55Speaker 2: think that's sort of most people now that nowadays. But yeah,
- 11:59Speaker 2: mostly getting into the market, which was yeah, we didn't
- 12:02Speaker 2: expect to be able to do so soon.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Well I feel like it's the gateway, right. You meet
- 12:05Speaker 3: Glenn James, and then Glenn James might introduce you to
- 12:08Speaker 3: me or vice versa, and you get into this eco
- 12:11Speaker 3: system of people who want you to have a really
- 12:14Speaker 3: secure financial future. You kind of go, Okay, cool house,
- 12:18Speaker 3: no worries, I can do that. Okay, cool this one.
- 12:20Speaker 3: No worries I can do that shares Like I just
- 12:23Speaker 3: I feel like it's like a cult, but like we're
- 12:26Speaker 3: actually benefiting people instead of manipulating them, Like we should
- 12:30Speaker 3: be working harder at this.
- 12:31Speaker 2: So I'll call Glenn absolutely I loved that.
- 12:34Speaker 3: Let's go to a really quick break And on the
- 12:36Speaker 3: flip side, I want to know more about your investment plans,
- 12:39Speaker 3: what that will look like, your house, what type of
- 12:41Speaker 3: debt we're going to take on, and then you're best
- 12:43Speaker 3: in worst money habits, so guys don't go anywhere money diarist.
- 12:51Speaker 3: We are back, and I want to know you've come
- 12:54Speaker 3: into this ecosphere of i'd say financial literacy. Like Glenn
- 12:58Speaker 3: and I are very on the same page. What are
- 13:01Speaker 3: your thoughts around investing? Obviously at the moment, money is
- 13:04Speaker 3: tied up, like you're planning on purchasing, but have you
- 13:07Speaker 3: made a little plan or do you have a strategy
- 13:10Speaker 3: for investing.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Yeah, so obviously most of our money at the moment's
- 13:13Speaker 2: going into our deposit account. But I did start up
- 13:16Speaker 2: a little shares y's account probably in February, and I've
- 13:20Speaker 2: got maybe like two hundred dollars in there at the moment,
- 13:22Speaker 2: So focusing a little bit on just learning what different
- 13:25Speaker 2: terms are, like even when it came to like ETF,
- 13:28Speaker 2: so I just went like, I don't even know what
- 13:30Speaker 2: that is. So I spent a lot of time, like
- 13:33Speaker 2: I extra like hyper focus on these sorts of things,
- 13:36Speaker 2: and I've just gone like deep dive right into it,
- 13:39Speaker 2: just sort of learning what they mean and what they
- 13:41Speaker 2: can do. But yeah, that's sort of as far as
- 13:43Speaker 2: I've gone with shares, and then I think it was
- 13:46Speaker 2: a couple I think three years ago I actually asked
- 13:49Speaker 2: an old coworker of mine what super actually is and
- 13:52Speaker 2: he gave me a crash course. So with that, my
- 13:54Speaker 2: super has definitely changed, and I'd like to keep growing
- 13:58Speaker 2: that as well over like yeah, the years till retirement.
- 14:02Speaker 3: I love this. She's got her plan and she knows
- 14:05Speaker 3: what she's doing. Tell me more about this property, Like
- 14:09Speaker 3: you've got a blocker pland what does that process look like?
- 14:12Speaker 3: Because you backtrack in your submission you said we went
- 14:15Speaker 3: and saw a broker and now we have a deposit
- 14:17Speaker 3: and we're ready to go. Tell me about that journey
- 14:19Speaker 3: with a broker, Like, yep, did you sit down and
- 14:21Speaker 3: do cash flow? Did you do like talking about your
- 14:23Speaker 3: deposit like, what did that look like?
- 14:25Speaker 2: Yeah. So I'm like, I'm a super researcher and I
- 14:28Speaker 2: have to know everything before I go into an appointment.
- 14:30Speaker 2: So I basically went into this appointment and I said, hey, like,
- 14:33Speaker 2: we're on a border town, so vic and your sofuals
- 14:36Speaker 2: have very different rules. We want to stay on the
- 14:38Speaker 2: big side. Yes, So I said to her, like, I've
- 14:40Speaker 2: done market research. It's cheaper to build in our area
- 14:43Speaker 2: than it is to buy. We want to build a house.
- 14:45Speaker 2: We want to use the first time onn A grant.
- 14:47Speaker 2: We want the ten thousand dollars, we want the five
- 14:49Speaker 2: percent scheme, we want to layer it all like. So
- 14:52Speaker 2: she just went yeah, okay, So she ran out numbers,
- 14:55Speaker 2: she got all of our expenses, all of our income,
- 14:58Speaker 2: and she just went, well, yeah, like six fifty would
- 15:02Speaker 2: work because we have a six to fifty cap with
- 15:04Speaker 2: the regional first homeowner five percent deposit scheme. So she
- 15:08Speaker 2: just went, yep, that's fine. So I think it was
- 15:11Speaker 2: December that we started looking at blocks of land and
- 15:14Speaker 2: we went, maybe we'll find something. A lot of the
- 15:16Speaker 2: time that blocks takes it of after twelve months to time. Yeah,
- 15:19Speaker 2: so we're like, oh, we'll dip our toes in the water.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Got a block of land on hold last month. Yeah,
- 15:26Speaker 2: so that was two hundred and twenty five thousand. We
- 15:28Speaker 2: do have to couple the build d land contracts together,
- 15:31Speaker 2: so we've got to get the building contract before titles come.
- 15:35Speaker 2: So that's where we're just getting all our ducks in
- 15:37Speaker 2: a row at the moment, and then yeah, hopefully come
- 15:41Speaker 2: end of June we will settle on a block of
- 15:43Speaker 2: land and start building.
- 15:45Speaker 3: That is so exciting. So we how does one pick
- 15:48Speaker 3: a block of land? Did you just go that one's
- 15:51Speaker 3: for sale money win? Did you go? I like, because
- 15:54Speaker 3: there's obviously a lot, and I promise I'm not completely naive.
- 15:57Speaker 3: There's obviously a lot that goes into it because some
- 15:59Speaker 3: people be like, no, I want land with titles, and
- 16:02Speaker 3: some other people might go, no, I want one without
- 16:04Speaker 3: a title because they're usually cheaper without a title, and
- 16:06Speaker 3: then after they will increase in value. So tell me
- 16:09Speaker 3: around like a bit more about your thought process.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Yeah, so untitled worked better because we do need the
- 16:15Speaker 2: land and build contract together, so in thees that we
- 16:18Speaker 2: actually had time to get that build side of things sorted,
- 16:21Speaker 2: and it just gave me peace of mind with a
- 16:23Speaker 2: bit of a time frame. Anything that's sort of titled
- 16:25Speaker 2: already like it's too us like too fast for my
- 16:28Speaker 2: brain to comprehend. And then obviously working in the building industry,
- 16:32Speaker 2: there was a lot that I sort of learned from that.
- 16:35Speaker 2: So for us, like we want to reid access, so
- 16:38Speaker 2: I needed something that was a certain wit to allow
- 16:40Speaker 2: for us to get into the back if we get
- 16:41Speaker 2: trailers or caravans and all those sorts of things. Price
- 16:44Speaker 2: was obviously a big thing because we do have a
- 16:46Speaker 2: six fifty cap yep. We like to have a little
- 16:48Speaker 2: bit of yard because of the two kids, and we
- 16:50Speaker 2: do have a dog. So yeah, we just basically went
- 16:52Speaker 2: all right, we want roughly around this size. One came
- 16:56Speaker 2: up in the area that we're living in, which is fantastic.
- 16:58Speaker 2: It's just down road.
- 17:00Speaker 3: How good?
- 17:01Speaker 2: Thanks, Yeah, it's perfect, Like we love the area and
- 17:03Speaker 2: it's just everything just came together so well, so we're
- 17:06Speaker 2: pretty lucky.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Oh I love this, And can I be really perfect
- 17:10Speaker 3: because obviously you've got a six to fifty cap. What
- 17:12Speaker 3: type of income is your partner earning?
- 17:14Speaker 2: Yeah, so he's on about I think eighty six before
- 17:17Speaker 2: super Yeah.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Also she's the bread winner, and I love this. I
- 17:23Speaker 3: was like, is she because like, obviously I'm doing some
- 17:25Speaker 3: quick mats in my head and I'm like, oh, he'd
- 17:27Speaker 3: be on about similar or just lower than through six fifty. Anyway,
- 17:31Speaker 3: I love that. Tell me a little bit more about
- 17:34Speaker 3: the purchase. So how much does it cost for the land,
- 17:36Speaker 3: how much does it cost for the build? What does
- 17:38Speaker 3: that look like for you guys?
- 17:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so the land two twenty five, the build
- 17:43Speaker 2: currently sitting around four twenty, so we're pushing it. We've
- 17:46Speaker 2: got about fiogram buffer in there.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Yea.
- 17:48Speaker 2: That doesn't include fencing or landscaping or side the contracts,
- 17:51Speaker 2: so total will probably end up spending another set of
- 17:54Speaker 2: ten twenty afterwards. But yeah, Like the house itself is
- 17:58Speaker 2: four bedrooms, two bathrooms, wood size house. The kids will
- 18:01Speaker 2: have their own little playroom, so it'll just work perfectly
- 18:04Speaker 2: for us. We don't need anything too old. Yeah, it's
- 18:07Speaker 2: keeping it quite standard.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm so excited for you guys. And like, landscaping
- 18:12Speaker 3: is one of those things where if it can be included, great,
- 18:15Speaker 3: but if it's not, it's also something we can go
- 18:17Speaker 3: back and do later, Like if you can't afford it
- 18:19Speaker 3: in the moment, and we have these conversations a lot
- 18:22Speaker 3: at Zella where clients are like, oh, with the whole
- 18:24Speaker 3: package is this And I'm like, oh, could you negotiate
- 18:27Speaker 3: not having landscape because you can have the ugliest front
- 18:29Speaker 3: yard for a year, it doesn't matter, but at least
- 18:32Speaker 3: you've got, you know, some good finishes, or you know,
- 18:35Speaker 3: you were able to actually pay for the driveway to
- 18:37Speaker 3: go in or whatever. We are actually negotiating because those
- 18:41Speaker 3: are things we can go back and do later. But
- 18:43Speaker 3: you can't go back and add another bedroom for the
- 18:46Speaker 3: same price, or like even just land. So I just, ah,
- 18:50Speaker 3: it's so exciting when people are like, I'm building. And
- 18:54Speaker 3: for those who follow that she's on the Money podcast,
- 18:56Speaker 3: they know that Jess who's on the show, She's currently
- 19:00Speaker 3: in the same situation as you. She's just a little
- 19:02Speaker 3: bit more progressed. She's like bought her land, she's like
- 19:05Speaker 3: signed off on the build, like it's just started building.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Like it's just such an exciting process to go through.
- 19:12Speaker 3: And yeah, keep me updateated. Do you have any other
- 19:17Speaker 3: debts apart from taking on this mortgage?
- 19:20Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so we do have a car loan, which
- 19:22Speaker 2: we didn't think that we'd be buying a house anytime soon.
- 19:25Speaker 2: So it kind of got to a point where we're like, well,
- 19:27Speaker 2: how about we just get a nice family car to
- 19:29Speaker 2: travel in. I think there's about sixty thousand on that one,
- 19:32Speaker 2: big car, big loan, but yeah, like it is what
- 19:36Speaker 2: it is. We'll probably focus on paying that one down
- 19:39Speaker 2: a bit quicker once the mortgage is all sorted. But yeah,
- 19:41Speaker 2: other than that, there's just a two thousand dollars credit
- 19:43Speaker 2: card as well that we've just sort of kept aside
- 19:45Speaker 2: as like an emergency, like if you need to use it,
- 19:49Speaker 2: use it, but if you don't, don't. Just sort of
- 19:51Speaker 2: help keep that sort of credit going and a little
- 19:54Speaker 2: bit of fun money if we ever wanted it.
- 19:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I know that makes sense. And is that two
- 19:57Speaker 3: thousand dollars credit card that's the limit, not what you've
- 20:00Speaker 3: got owing on it. Yeah, that's the limit. Yeah, Yeah,
- 20:03Speaker 3: very cool. So talk to me about personal insurance. Like,
- 20:06Speaker 3: you've got two young kids, you're taking on a whole
- 20:09Speaker 3: heap of debt. Is this something you've thought about? What
- 20:11Speaker 3: is the plans? If you came through Glennie James, you
- 20:14Speaker 3: know he's as obsessed with personal insurance as I have.
- 20:17Speaker 3: So this won't be the first time you've heard of it.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Tell me what are your thoughts.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Yeah, so I have a total permanent a disability and
- 20:26Speaker 2: death in my super, so I've set that up to
- 20:30Speaker 2: be higher than what the value of the house would be,
- 20:33Speaker 2: so if anything else happen, covers it all. And I've
- 20:37Speaker 2: actually done the same for my partner as well. I
- 20:39Speaker 2: got him to jump into his super and just tweak
- 20:41Speaker 2: your things. You don't even notice, Like honestly, it comes
- 20:44Speaker 2: out of your super, you don't even know. So it's
- 20:46Speaker 2: just simple.
- 20:47Speaker 3: Do you feel like a different person than the person
- 20:49Speaker 3: that was married, because like I'm just picking up she's
- 20:52Speaker 3: now the bread winner. She's the one telling her partner
- 20:54Speaker 3: and to do some super stuff. Like you're talking about
- 20:57Speaker 3: an investment plan for the future.
- 20:59Speaker 2: You've just bought a prop Like what's the contrast completely backwards?
- 21:05Speaker 2: Like it's just even little things like if people want it,
- 21:08Speaker 2: we wanted to go camping, like I'd have to sit
- 21:11Speaker 2: there and count the dollars for the groceries, whereas these
- 21:13Speaker 2: days I'm like, yeah, let's let's just go down to
- 21:15Speaker 2: Melbourne for the weekend. Like it's it is nice, Like
- 21:18Speaker 2: it's just it's a complete backflip, and that's sort of
- 21:22Speaker 2: exactly sort of more what sort of that teenage me
- 21:25Speaker 2: was expecting just a little bit later. But that's okay,
- 21:28Speaker 2: that's okay.
- 21:29Speaker 3: We're all in our own timelines. And yeah, is that
- 21:32Speaker 3: something that's now impacting your relationship with your kids? Like
- 21:35Speaker 3: when it comes to money and how that works. I
- 21:38Speaker 3: feel like money inherently because it is and can be
- 21:41Speaker 3: so stressful, it impacts the way that we interact with
- 21:43Speaker 3: our family in general. What does that look like now?
- 21:47Speaker 2: Yeah, So I'm very open with my kids, like they've
- 21:50Speaker 2: understood the whole process, Like we want to build a house,
- 21:52Speaker 2: Like we've shown them what we want to do, and
- 21:54Speaker 2: if they sort of say, oh, can we go out
- 21:56Speaker 2: and do something, like I'll go, okay, well, this week,
- 21:59Speaker 2: we need to put some more money to the house,
- 22:01Speaker 2: but like maybe we can compromise so little things like
- 22:04Speaker 2: we'll just put a movie on Amazon and have popcorn
- 22:07Speaker 2: in the playroom instead of actually going to the movies,
- 22:09Speaker 2: And like they're really good with those sorts of things.
- 22:12Speaker 2: So just to me, the transparency is really important and
- 22:16Speaker 2: it's actually taught, especially my oldest to start saving himself.
- 22:20Speaker 2: So every time he loses a tooth, he goes, oh,
- 22:22Speaker 2: instead of spending this on lollies, like, I'm gonna save
- 22:25Speaker 2: my money and get something a bit bigger. So it
- 22:27Speaker 2: makes you proud as a parent when you sort of
- 22:29Speaker 2: start to see the conversations you're having like actually start
- 22:33Speaker 2: to impact them a little bit as well.
- 22:35Speaker 3: So it's so cute, and I find that I'm not
- 22:38Speaker 3: at that stage yet. I've got a two year old,
- 22:40Speaker 3: so he doesn't get it. He just wants stuff in
- 22:43Speaker 3: a train book and he's good to go. But it's
- 22:46Speaker 3: making me think a lot, like how am I going
- 22:47Speaker 3: to teach my children about money? Because in twenty twenty six,
- 22:51Speaker 3: it just feels so different to the way that I
- 22:53Speaker 3: grew up, Like the way I grew up around pocket money,
- 22:55Speaker 3: it was very physical, like every Friday after school we
- 22:58Speaker 3: would get our pocket line and my sister and I
- 23:01Speaker 3: had our own piggy banks, and like, you know, it
- 23:04Speaker 3: was such a physical thing. How are you starting to
- 23:07Speaker 3: teach your kids about money? The value of money? Is
- 23:10Speaker 3: pocket money a thing? Still? Like what's your take?
- 23:12Speaker 2: Yeah, so we haven't sort of gotten too much into
- 23:14Speaker 2: pocket money yet, but we have had a look, and
- 23:17Speaker 2: I think it's called sprigging, there's like, yes, that account
- 23:20Speaker 2: you can get.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Yeah. So I think that because you can set little
- 23:24Speaker 2: goals in there, like and you can actually sort of
- 23:26Speaker 2: have a look and see how the goals are tracking,
- 23:28Speaker 2: that can sort of make things a bit more physical.
- 23:30Speaker 2: So definitely something we're looking more into. Just haven't set
- 23:34Speaker 2: of actioned so much, but just trying to help them visualize.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Like when we've had the savings for the house, we
- 23:39Speaker 2: actually had like I drew up a physical thermometer and
- 23:42Speaker 2: stuck it on the wall and I was like coloring
- 23:44Speaker 2: in the sections for each thousand we saved, and they
- 23:47Speaker 2: got excited every time a section got colored in, so
- 23:50Speaker 2: like it was it was seeing that physical side of
- 23:52Speaker 2: things that sort of made them get excited. And then
- 23:54Speaker 2: once we got to the very top, they were like,
- 23:56Speaker 2: oh my god, like we've made it, and it was
- 23:59Speaker 2: just a celebration for them, even though like obviously they
- 24:02Speaker 2: haven't done much, but they like to them it was
- 24:04Speaker 2: more like this, wow, like it's at the top. So
- 24:07Speaker 2: that sort of has translated really well into them to
- 24:10Speaker 2: understand like why we've made changes and that has actually
- 24:14Speaker 2: gotten us somewhere. So hoping that we can start moving
- 24:17Speaker 2: forward in that way. But I've also sort of listened
- 24:20Speaker 2: to the podcasts with shares Ease with the kids accounts,
- 24:23Speaker 2: So probably once the house is sorted, we'll start putting
- 24:27Speaker 2: more money sort of aside for kids' shares that they
- 24:30Speaker 2: can access when they're a bit older as well.
- 24:32Speaker 3: Totally, And I really liked what you said before because
- 24:34Speaker 3: you were talking and like, these are just conversations, but
- 24:37Speaker 3: once you become a parent, you're like craving more of
- 24:39Speaker 3: these conversations, like what are other people's opinions? What are
- 24:41Speaker 3: they doing? Like how do I do this? So that's
- 24:44Speaker 3: I guess why I'm focusing on it a little bit more.
- 24:47Speaker 3: But you said something about transparency and just the idea
- 24:51Speaker 3: that you're like, no, we sat the kids down and
- 24:52Speaker 3: we said that we wanted to build a house, and
- 24:54Speaker 3: we had the thermometer on the wall. Like, to me,
- 24:57Speaker 3: that's such a beautiful way of giving them the level
- 24:59Speaker 3: of trans parency that they need at that age, as
- 25:02Speaker 3: opposed to going, well, mum earns X and this is
- 25:05Speaker 3: the whole budget, like that can be really overwhelming. And
- 25:09Speaker 3: when we talk about transparency, I think people go, oh,
- 25:13Speaker 3: so I have to tell them everything? Well, no, you
- 25:15Speaker 3: don't just let them focus on one goal or one
- 25:18Speaker 3: thing and you said, oh, like we're not going to
- 25:21Speaker 3: the movies, but we'll get some popcorn and watch a
- 25:23Speaker 3: movie on Amazon. Like kids understand and comprehend so much
- 25:28Speaker 3: more than we give them credit for sometimes, And do
- 25:32Speaker 3: you find that they are the ones going, oh, yeah,
- 25:34Speaker 3: that's still a good activity. They don't feel like they're
- 25:36Speaker 3: missing out.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, like because I'm so lucky to be
- 25:40Speaker 2: a commission based role, like there are sometimes we will
- 25:43Speaker 2: do something a be bigger, Like before we even started
- 25:46Speaker 2: saving for the house, like we were a bit bougie
- 25:48Speaker 2: and we took the kids on a cruise, so they've
- 25:50Speaker 2: been asking can we go again? Can we go again?
- 25:52Speaker 2: So I just sort of have gone, well, be saved
- 25:54Speaker 2: up for a cruise. But now we're saving up for
- 25:56Speaker 2: a house. So once we've finished the house, like then
- 25:59Speaker 2: we can talk about what the next big thing is.
- 26:01Speaker 2: So it is just like a lot of it sort
- 26:03Speaker 2: of buy association. Like kids don't know the difference of
- 26:07Speaker 2: twenty dollars to two hundred dollars, Like they don't like
- 26:09Speaker 2: it's just dollars. So yeah, like it's just it's trying
- 26:13Speaker 2: to find that way that they can understand. And it's tricky, Like,
- 26:16Speaker 2: it's very tricky because you are used to having adult
- 26:19Speaker 2: conversations and you you've really got to dumb it down, like,
- 26:23Speaker 2: but it is so much fun once they start to
- 26:25Speaker 2: click and once they start to ask those questions. And
- 26:28Speaker 2: as you said, no one understand no kid understands or
- 26:31Speaker 2: mum earns this much and this is the budget like
- 26:34Speaker 2: instead it's sort of more hey, like we can't really
- 26:36Speaker 2: afford that this week, but how about we try for
- 26:41Speaker 2: this week, or how about we do this instead, like, oh,
- 26:44Speaker 2: we'll go to the park instead of going over to
- 26:47Speaker 2: the trampoline place. So it's just it's finding those compromises
- 26:51Speaker 2: for the now and then we can reevaluate once we've
- 26:54Speaker 2: hit that goal.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think that, you know, the more I
- 26:57Speaker 3: learn about children and money, one of the most important
- 27:00Speaker 3: concepts that you can teach them is delayed gratification. So
- 27:04Speaker 3: you said about the truth fairy, and I was like, oh,
- 27:06Speaker 3: I really want to bring up this concept of delayed gratification,
- 27:10Speaker 3: like your son is saying, if I choose to have
- 27:13Speaker 3: a small something now, I'm sacrificing a big something later.
- 27:17Speaker 3: And it's just such a beautiful thing to be able
- 27:20Speaker 3: to teach kids that, like, yes, you could have instant
- 27:23Speaker 3: gratification in the moment, you could have some lollies, but
- 27:26Speaker 3: there's a bigger, better thing waiting for you. And it's
- 27:29Speaker 3: not necessarily about the money. It's actually about teaching them
- 27:32Speaker 3: to wait and teaching them to put value on things
- 27:35Speaker 3: and think about things into the future. And that's going
- 27:38Speaker 3: to serve them so well. It doesn't matter if it's
- 27:40Speaker 3: five dollars or if it's a cruise, but just if
- 27:44Speaker 3: we do this now, we can have a bigger, better
- 27:47Speaker 3: life later. And that's just such a beautiful message to
- 27:50Speaker 3: you know, instill in kids, especially younger kids, so that
- 27:54Speaker 3: they can go, oh, no, I get why we didn't
- 27:56Speaker 3: do that. I don't feel like I'm missing out. Can
- 27:58Speaker 3: you imagine what your kids money stories are going to
- 27:59Speaker 3: be like in thirty years, they can be on the
- 28:01Speaker 3: show going, oh my mum taught me this, and I'm
- 28:04Speaker 3: just so grateful, Like how cool.
- 28:07Speaker 2: Yes, it's such a big thing, Like and I think
- 28:09Speaker 2: I just my biggest thing is I look back at
- 28:13Speaker 2: sort of how things were when I was a kid
- 28:15Speaker 2: and look at how things are now, and I go
- 28:17Speaker 2: what is it going to be like when my kids
- 28:18Speaker 2: are older, Like it is harder to get into the market,
- 28:21Speaker 2: It is harder to do these things, Like is it
- 28:23Speaker 2: going to be even harder then? So the more I
- 28:25Speaker 2: can sort of prep them for that, like, the better
- 28:29Speaker 2: off I think I will feel and the better off
- 28:31Speaker 2: they will be. Yeah, totally.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Now, what do you think your best I feel like
- 28:36Speaker 3: you've got good money habits across the board. But what
- 28:38Speaker 3: do you think your best money habit is.
- 28:40Speaker 2: That's a moment probably just like making sure that everything
- 28:44Speaker 2: is just in its place when I get my money
- 28:46Speaker 2: in each week, so as soon as it comes in,
- 28:48Speaker 2: it's bills, it's like money straight to savings like that
- 28:52Speaker 2: is allocated to that, and then whatever's left like that
- 28:55Speaker 2: is left. So it's just making sure, yeah, everything that
- 28:58Speaker 2: needs to be paid and that, like essential savings is
- 29:02Speaker 2: all just done and then yeah, that's that. So if
- 29:05Speaker 2: there's not enough left for that new T shirt that
- 29:07Speaker 2: I want, like too bad, I've just got to wait.
- 29:10Speaker 3: Yeah. Now, or do you think your worst money havebit is?
- 29:13Speaker 3: I don't know if you've got one.
- 29:15Speaker 2: I have this bad habit of just buying concert tickets
- 29:18Speaker 2: on a whim.
- 29:19Speaker 3: Oh, same at the moment.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just Oh, Hillary Duff's coming, no worries.
- 29:24Speaker 3: I already did it.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, I'll be there with you, I guess. So
- 29:29Speaker 2: it's just like I have fomo and if I.
- 29:31Speaker 3: Likegic millennials though, And there's been so many things that
- 29:35Speaker 3: are not like, oh, you know, the concert tickets I'm buying.
- 29:38Speaker 3: I don't know about your girlfriend, but the concert tickets
- 29:40Speaker 3: I'm buying, they're like nostalgic. I'm like, no, I have
- 29:43Speaker 3: to go, Like it's not Oh, they're super popular on
- 29:46Speaker 3: the radio right now. I'm like, oh, no, it's Hillary Duff.
- 29:49Speaker 3: I will die if I don't.
- 29:50Speaker 2: See Hillary Duff definitely, And I'm like it's serious, fomo.
- 29:53Speaker 2: What if she doesn't come back? Like I need to
- 29:55Speaker 2: be there?
- 29:56Speaker 3: No, no, and she's clearly gonna like no, sorry, I
- 30:00Speaker 3: have so much hope for this tour, Like I know.
- 30:03Speaker 2: My inner Lizzie McGuire is going to be there, don't.
- 30:07Speaker 3: Two of my best friends and I are going together
- 30:09Speaker 3: and we're planning even now.
- 30:11Speaker 2: Already, Yeah, what are you wearing? What are you wearing?
- 30:14Speaker 3: I'm going to buy a whole outfit like this is
- 30:16Speaker 3: yes to me. A very bad money habit because do
- 30:19Speaker 3: I have a dress?
- 30:19Speaker 2: I can?
- 30:20Speaker 3: We absolutely, but I need to channel my inner Lizzie
- 30:23Speaker 3: McGuire like, I need some jeans with diamondies.
- 30:26Speaker 2: Yes, like this is what dreams are made of. She says, exactly, I'm.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Going to need like some hair accessory. There's there's going
- 30:33Speaker 3: to be.
- 30:33Speaker 2: A whole thing like butterfly clips and just like yes,
- 30:37Speaker 2: also came.
- 30:38Speaker 3: Out have butterfly clips at the moment and came in
- 30:40Speaker 3: the kids section. If you want them for the little
- 30:42Speaker 3: twisty back moment that we used to have as children.
- 30:45Speaker 2: I'm going to have to do that.
- 30:46Speaker 3: Yeah, you would.
- 30:47Speaker 2: It would be rude not to, Like when a other
- 30:51Speaker 2: opportunity are you going to get?
- 30:52Speaker 3: It's not going to happen. It's not going to happen
- 30:54Speaker 3: because she's as old as we are.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Uh huh uh huh.
- 30:58Speaker 3: Money there is. Now that we've spoken, I feel like
- 31:02Speaker 3: you said a B minus at the start of this episode, Queen,
- 31:05Speaker 3: what are you talking about? Like, I don't know if
- 31:08Speaker 3: you're giving yourself enough credit for the transformation that you've
- 31:12Speaker 3: been through, and we haven't focused enough on it, but
- 31:15Speaker 3: just having gone from where you were to where you
- 31:17Speaker 3: are I feel like you've done it in a relatively
- 31:19Speaker 3: short period of time with an epic mindset. Like it
- 31:23Speaker 3: has not been easy. I'm not going to downplay that,
- 31:26Speaker 3: but you have gone from being in a situation that
- 31:31Speaker 3: a lot of people come out of and need years
- 31:33Speaker 3: to recover from. And it's not I'm not saying, oh,
- 31:35Speaker 3: it was the marriage in general, but just the financial
- 31:38Speaker 3: side of it. Sorry, queen. What are your hot tips
- 31:40Speaker 3: and tricks and do you really think that you're a
- 31:42Speaker 3: b minus?
- 31:44Speaker 2: The biggest hot tips and tricks is work in sales,
- 31:46Speaker 2: Like your commissions come in. Like I I had so
- 31:50Speaker 2: many outstanding like electricity and gas bills that I just
- 31:53Speaker 2: didn't know how to pay and those when that commission
- 31:56Speaker 2: came in, it was like all right that one. Yeah, absolutely,
- 32:00Speaker 2: Like I had to sacrifice absolutely, but it just having
- 32:04Speaker 2: that extra money was such a bonus. Like I felt
- 32:07Speaker 2: so privileged to be able to go, hey, like, I
- 32:11Speaker 2: have extra money coming in and I can pay that off.
- 32:13Speaker 2: So that was probably my biggest like win with my
- 32:16Speaker 2: income type. But yeah, I don't know, Like I just
- 32:21Speaker 2: always feel like there's room for improvement, and I feel
- 32:24Speaker 2: like maybe if we do get successful in securing this loan,
- 32:28Speaker 2: maybe I'd probably push myself up over to maybe an as.
- 32:32Speaker 3: I'm sure you will. I don't see any issue with
- 32:35Speaker 3: the loan happening.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Yeah, we're very excited. So it's just, yeah, such a
- 32:39Speaker 2: nervous part. Like no one ever talks about how scary
- 32:42Speaker 2: that free approval part is, but it's so scary.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Literally, it's why you've got to have such a good
- 32:48Speaker 3: mortgage broker on your team. And like, don't get me wrong,
- 32:51Speaker 3: I know a lot of people are like, oh, Victoria,
- 32:54Speaker 3: I could just go to the bank. They're not going
- 32:55Speaker 3: to hold your hand in the same way. They're not
- 32:57Speaker 3: going to like have all the levers to be like, okay, cool,
- 33:00Speaker 3: let's look down this like you know, and I'm not
- 33:02Speaker 3: trying to be salesy for my own business, but when
- 33:06Speaker 3: it comes to mortgage broking, you're going to somebody who
- 33:09Speaker 3: has access to like sixty different options. Like if you
- 33:13Speaker 3: go down to your bank, you've got two, but sixty
- 33:15Speaker 3: different options that go Okay, cool, money direst you want
- 33:18Speaker 3: the five percent schame great. I know which banks are
- 33:20Speaker 3: going to you know, capitalize on that and give you
- 33:23Speaker 3: the best outcome. Okay, cool, I know this bank actually
- 33:25Speaker 3: has better service ability than this bank. Oh, this bank's
- 33:28Speaker 3: going to look at your commissions a little bit differently,
- 33:30Speaker 3: Like it's such a complex situation, but you just need
- 33:34Speaker 3: someone on your side that's also going to text you like, hey, money,
- 33:37Speaker 3: direst it's all good, like no news is good news,
- 33:40Speaker 3: and you go, okay, good, thank god, because I thought
- 33:42Speaker 3: I was the only one thinking about this, Like because
- 33:46Speaker 3: it is stressful, it's the biggest investment you'll make in
- 33:49Speaker 3: your entire life, arguably fixorly, I'm asking you to spend
- 33:53Speaker 3: six hundred and fifty thousand dollars that shouldn't be easy.
- 33:56Speaker 2: No, no, absolutely, everyone go see it broker, Like even
- 34:00Speaker 2: if you don't know, Like as I said, like we
- 34:02Speaker 2: didn't know, we would be that close to being ready,
- 34:04Speaker 2: like have the conversation. Like they're more and happy to
- 34:07Speaker 2: run numbers and just talk you through it. So it's
- 34:09Speaker 2: just yeah, they are. Yeah, I can't fault my experience
- 34:13Speaker 2: with a broker, and I will just.
- 34:15Speaker 3: Get mortgage brokers. We were also born to yap, so like,
- 34:19Speaker 3: we don't mind if you go. I don't know if
- 34:21Speaker 3: I'm ready to go. Let's jump on a zoom. Let's
- 34:23Speaker 3: have a chat. So what was your dog's name again?
- 34:25Speaker 3: Oh cool, I want to get him a backyard. Like
- 34:28Speaker 3: it's so exciting that you don't have to have the
- 34:32Speaker 3: deposit save to chat to a broker. You can just
- 34:34Speaker 3: book an appointment, because do you know what, there's something
- 34:38Speaker 3: equally special about meeting a client who's not ready, who
- 34:41Speaker 3: is Like, oh my god, Victoria, thanks so much for
- 34:43Speaker 3: having that conversation. I'm so motivated. I'm going to go,
- 34:46Speaker 3: you know, stick another tracker on the fridge and get
- 34:49Speaker 3: to that goal. Let me keep you updated, like we
- 34:51Speaker 3: want to be on the journey, like you buying your
- 34:54Speaker 3: first home is as exciting for us as it is
- 34:57Speaker 3: for you.
- 34:57Speaker 2: Yes, nothing motivates you more than finding out that exactly
- 35:00Speaker 2: what you can actually get, Like it's just.
- 35:03Speaker 3: Yes, how exciting money, darist. I just the only way
- 35:07Speaker 3: is up for you from here, Like you just have
- 35:09Speaker 3: so much to achieve it. I'm just I'm so excited
- 35:12Speaker 3: that you're in the position that you were in, and
- 35:15Speaker 3: I just I look at it and I go, if
- 35:16Speaker 3: you can do it, so many of our community members
- 35:19Speaker 3: can do it, And just I'm really really happy for you,
- 35:22Speaker 3: and I'm just so proud of the journey you've gone on,
- 35:24Speaker 3: so thank you so much for sharing your journey with me,
- 35:27Speaker 3: but also with the community because it just benefits them
- 35:30Speaker 3: so much to be able to go. You know what,
- 35:33Speaker 3: It can't be that complicated.
- 35:35Speaker 2: Yes, yes, just set your mind to it and listen
- 35:38Speaker 2: to all the podcasts and just go, just go.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Just give it a crack, just do it exactly, exactly.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Thank you so much, thanks for having me.
