- 0:07If you called out your ex for being avoidant, that may be
- 0:11exactly why they pulled away even harder.
- 0:15And I know that sounds completely backwards, because
- 0:18when someone is hot and cold, distant, confusing, your
- 0:22instinct is to say something right?
- 0:24To point it out, to get clarity, to make it make sense.
- 0:28But to an avoidant, being called out does not create awareness.
- 0:34It creates pressure. And pressure is what makes them
- 0:37shut down. And if you're thinking, Oh no, I
- 0:41already did this, did I mess up? Well, maybe or maybe not.
- 0:45But you did trigger a reaction that you didn't understand.
- 0:49And once you understand what actually happened, you can stop
- 0:53making it worse. Hi, if you're new here, my name
- 0:56is Lucia. I'm a dating and relationship
- 0:58expert specializing in helping you get your ex back or to get
- 1:01over your ex. And if you're not new, you're
- 1:03part of my no contact army. Welcome back, my little
- 1:06soldiers. OK, so you felt the need to call
- 1:11your ex out because before they showed interest, they opened up.
- 1:17They made you feel like something real was there, right?
- 1:20So now you're trying to get back to that version of them.
- 1:25And when they pull away, you think, well, if I just say it
- 1:27clearly, they'll understand. If I'm just being honest, I'm
- 1:31helping them see the problem. And logically that makes sense
- 1:36because if someone has a pattern, why wouldn't pointing
- 1:39it out help? And sure, that would work with
- 1:43someone who's secure or even anxious.
- 1:46But what feels like honesty is actually the thing that's
- 1:50pushing them further away. Because avoidance don't respond
- 1:54to logic, they respond to emotional pressure.
- 1:59And in fact I have a comment here underneath 11 videos and
- 2:04the guy said I called my ex out on her avoidant behavior.
- 2:08She said love yourself more. She love bombed me one more time
- 2:13and then blocked and ghosted. So that's not a coincidence.
- 2:19That's a pattern. And that's actually what it
- 2:22looks like in real life. You say something like, well, I
- 2:26feel like every time you get close, you pull away, your
- 2:29avoidant. Why do you keep doing this?
- 2:31And at first they might respond like this person did, and maybe
- 2:35they even explain themselves. Maybe they seem open for a
- 2:38moment and you think, OK, this is good, we're finally getting
- 2:41somewhere. But then their energy shifts,
- 2:45they get quieter, slower to respond, less engaged, and
- 2:50within days they're gone again, like the person in the comments.
- 2:55So if you've already messed up and you need to fix it, don't
- 2:59worry because I do offer one-on-one coaching and you can
- 3:05contact me at theartoflove.net/coaching and we
- 3:08will send you the rates. They are not on the website, and
- 3:11the link to that is underneath every single video and podcast.
- 3:14So what's really happening is that when you call out an
- 3:17avoidant, they're not thinking, wow, that's really insightful.
- 3:21I wish. Instead, they feel exposed,
- 3:25judged, they feel like they're being analyzed.
- 3:28And the second that happens, their brain shifts into
- 3:31protection mode, not connection protection.
- 3:35And protection for an avoidant looks like, as we already know,
- 3:38distance. But here's where it gets really
- 3:42confusing because sometimes they come back, they reach out, they
- 3:45act warm again, they reconnect just enough and you think, see,
- 3:50they care. It worked.
- 3:52No, that wasn't connection. That was pressure relief.
- 3:57And this is the cycle that people get stuck in.
- 4:00You call them out, they pull away, they come back, you bring
- 4:05it up again. And each time they stay for less
- 4:08time and leave even faster until eventually they stop coming back
- 4:14at all. So if you don't call them out,
- 4:18then what do you actually do? What the heck do you do?
- 4:21Because I know this is where people get frustrated.
- 4:23You're thinking, OK so I say nothing and pretend everything's
- 4:26fine. No, this is about changing how
- 4:32you respond. So stop labeling the behavior in
- 4:35the moment instead of why are you being distant, you're
- 4:38pulling away again. Can you just be honest with me?
- 4:42Do this, say nothing in the moment, notice it, but don't
- 4:47react emotionally because the second you label it, they're
- 4:51going to feel judged and boxed in.
- 4:54Next you're going to match their energy instead of chasing it.
- 4:58So instead of trying to close the gap, sending what's going on
- 5:02texts, pushing for reassurance, when they pull back, you don't
- 5:07lean in harder, you don't try to fix it, you do less.
- 5:11You pull your energy back, not as a game, but because you're
- 5:16not going to over function for someone who's under functioning.
- 5:20And this is where people usually mess up because they panic and
- 5:24they try to close the gap instead of staying silent.
- 5:27And to help you stay silent, you can check out my app, Silencio,
- 5:32which is available on the Google Play Store and of course,
- 5:36through the Apple Store. And there's a counter there
- 5:42where you can see how long you've been in no contact and
- 5:45also a panic button. So if you panic and want to
- 5:47reach out, you're going to hear my voice giving you an
- 5:50inspirational message. And the link for that is
- 5:53underneath every single video and podcast.
- 5:55And of course, for those who still like to read, you can
- 5:58check out my book, No Contact Secrets at nocontactsecrets.com.
- 6:03OK, next, you're going to stay warm, but not available on
- 6:09demand. And this is the balance that's
- 6:11hard to make because you're not cold, you're not punishing them,
- 6:16you're not ignoring them to prove it point, but you're also
- 6:19not instantly available. You're calm and grounded.
- 6:23You're not reacting. And that will remove the
- 6:26pressure. And when they do come back, do
- 6:29not ruin it. Do not lose them again, you
- 6:33know, because a lot of people they wait for the avoidant to
- 6:35come back and then they quickly say, hey, why did you disappear
- 6:41or are you going to do that again?
- 6:43And that sends them right back into shutdown.
- 6:46So instead, instead of trying to force a conversation, allow them
- 6:50to re engage on their own time. And when they do, do not
- 6:54interrogate them. Do not bring up the past.
- 6:57Don't say why did you disappear because again, they will shut
- 7:01down. So instead keep it light, stay
- 7:03present. Don't revisit the issue right
- 7:06away. So you want to create safety
- 7:10through behavior, not words. You don't convince and avoid
- 7:14verbally. You show them you're not
- 7:18reactive, you're not chasing, you're not trying to control the
- 7:21outcome. That's what makes them feel safe
- 7:24enough to stay. OK, so if you've been calling
- 7:27them out or thinking of calling them out, it's not that you're
- 7:31wrong, it's that you're using the wrong strategy for the
- 7:34person you're dealing with. Because with an avoidant, the
- 7:38more you try to force clarity, the more they feel the need to
- 7:42escape. As I'm sure you've noticed,
- 7:45you're creating pressure, and pressure is what makes them want
- 7:48to leave. If you want a different outcome,
- 7:50you have to respond differently. So less pressure, more space,
- 7:56more self-control. Because with an avoidant, the
- 8:00moment you stop pushing is often the moment they stop pulling
- 8:04away. OK, so now I want to hear from
- 8:06you. Do you have any questions or
- 8:08comments about anything I've said?
