- 0:01I've heard it said that people can change, but only if they
- 0:04want to. So what would it take for you to
- 0:07try it? Change the way you think, feel,
- 0:10relate and experience situations.
- 0:13For me, I wanted to find the truth and little by little I did
- 0:17become different and old conditionings gone.
- 0:22Then I set a new course. I refer to that as the second
- 0:26clock. Join me, click follow, like and
- 0:29subscribe and let's see where this leads in it.
- 0:34That's what I refer to it. When somebody is caught up in
- 0:37something, overly invested in an outcome or a situation, when
- 0:42somebody can't get space between themselves and whatever is going
- 0:46on in their lives. And you know when someone's in
- 0:49it, when they're pulling you into it, when they're telling
- 0:53you stories, laying out evidence and facts so you can get on
- 0:57board with their perception. You can also tell because
- 1:00they're filled with emotion, feelings, and their thoughts on
- 1:04the topic are bubbling over. And for some people, they're
- 1:08overthinking on the subject altogether.
- 1:11I was talking to my friend recently and she was telling me
- 1:14a story about her friend. And with every word she spoke,
- 1:17it became clearer and clearer that whatever my friend's view
- 1:20was on her friend in that situation, she wasn't going to
- 1:24get through to that friend because her friend was in it
- 1:28fully. When I said this to my friend,
- 1:31she goes, yeah, that's exactly how I feel when I talk to her.
- 1:36It's like, I don't even know why I'm talking to her.
- 1:39I'm not sure what she wants from me because I don't think she's
- 1:42going to listen. And I was like, yeah, sometimes
- 1:45when someone's in it, they can't hear anything but what they want
- 1:49to hear, which is you agree, you're there for them, and
- 1:54whatever they need, you're willing to help with.
- 1:57But lately, I haven't found myself in it like I used to be
- 2:02when I was younger, I would say I could get caught up in
- 2:05something so easily. My day could be going one way
- 2:08and then all of a sudden go off the rails because somebody said
- 2:11something to me, poked the bear, if you will.
- 2:14And the next thing you know, I'm phoning a friend and telling
- 2:18them what I think about a situation that most likely I
- 2:21can't change, I can't control. And no matter how much I retell
- 2:26a story or hope for something different, very little can be
- 2:29done. The shift in me came recently.
- 2:34I wish it had come sooner, but it hadn't.
- 2:37It happened when I was in a conversation with somebody and I
- 2:40found that no matter what I said, it wasn't going to matter.
- 2:44This person was invested in their point of view, as so many
- 2:47people are, as I've been. So when I realized that, I just
- 2:51sat back and I started to observe.
- 2:54In the past, when somebody ropes me into a conversation and wants
- 2:58to share, I assume that they're looking for advice or my point
- 3:02of view, or maybe they want me to fix things altogether, That
- 3:06them calling on me is some kind of call to action for me.
- 3:10But during this conversation, I was quickly realizing something
- 3:13that probably I should have realized a long time ago, that
- 3:16when somebody's in a conversation with me, they don't
- 3:19necessarily want me to say much. And in this particular
- 3:22conversation, I didn't have much to say, and I didn't want to
- 3:26offer what I actually thought because I saw the situation so
- 3:31differently than this person. And I could tell that that
- 3:34divide was too great. So instead, I chose to say
- 3:38little. He was so in it that I didn't
- 3:41see a way out for him, and I couldn't say that he wanted a
- 3:45way out. So instead I set an observation
- 3:49and as I listened and I saw what my role was in the conversation,
- 3:53I started seeing things clearly and it felt like it was for the
- 3:57first time every time the person talked.
- 4:00It's like every book I had ever read on so many different
- 4:04topics, including biographies and psychology books and
- 4:07philosophy books, was kind of helping me see patterns in this
- 4:12situation that linked back to other situations with other
- 4:15people. And from that, I was able to
- 4:17quiet my perception and just see things as they were, as this
- 4:23person was. Understanding that no matter how
- 4:27much somebody tries to convince you of something, when you see
- 4:30things clearly, there's not much to say or do after that because
- 4:35you know that your point of view, which is not really a
- 4:38point of view at all, it's just kind of what is, is most likely
- 4:42not going to be shared with the other person.
- 4:45After that situation, I started seeing every situation clearly,
- 4:49including my own, which was refreshing and a little bit off
- 4:53putting, I have to say. Why was it off putting?
- 4:57Because I started realizing what I hadn't seen for so long or
- 5:00ever. People's real reactions,
- 5:03people's real intentions and situations exactly as they are.
- 5:08So what I found after the shift is that I understood people,
- 5:13relationships and situations differently.
- 5:16I was seeing things for what they were instead of what I wish
- 5:20they could be or will never be. And through this I was finding
- 5:24peace and acceptance of what is. But I also realized how much
- 5:28time I had wasted before because now I was finding so much time.
- 5:34I was no longer finding myself getting caught up in other
- 5:37people's situations. I realized that they were too
- 5:40invested in their opinion a hopeful outcome.
- 5:44So instead I was holding space for people or before, so much of
- 5:49my energy and time was being absorbed by situations and
- 5:54relationships that I didn't need to be absorbed in.
- 5:58Any emotions I would have brought to a situation or
- 6:01relationship, they've lessened or gone entirely.
- 6:05The same goes for when I'm hearing my friends or somebody I
- 6:08know talking about something that they want me to get on
- 6:11board with. They want me to rally behind or
- 6:15agree with them on. Whatever energy used to be
- 6:18present has been replaced with clarity and stillness.
- 6:22I wish I had had this perspective when I was first
- 6:25dating. It would have saved me so much
- 6:27overthinking and I wouldn't have pulled my friends into things
- 6:31wondering what's happening, having them try to help me
- 6:34figure out why something is this or that way.
- 6:38It took my shift in understanding for me to release
- 6:40the hold on outcomes, stop investing so much energy and
- 6:44things, things that I don't know and can't control.
- 6:48I guess it was that that helped me get out of being so caught up
- 6:51in something. I don't invest my time like I
- 6:54used to. And the overthinking, it's gone.
- 6:58In the past when I felt like I was in it, I was aware of it
- 7:03just enough to know that this was going to pass, but that I
- 7:06was going to be fully indulgent at the time because that's what
- 7:10I was used to. When we become so accustomed to
- 7:13things, we just say yes, even when they're not the best for
- 7:17us. I used to joke with my friends
- 7:19and say I feel like I have a teenager and a grandma that live
- 7:24inside giving me advice. The teenager is egging me on,
- 7:28telling me what to do, even when I know my grandma would
- 7:32disapprove. So now that I'm seeing
- 7:35situations more like a grandma, maybe my teenager moved out.
- 7:41Where there used to be so much energy and drama fueling a
- 7:46situation, now it's just calm awareness.
- 7:52But maybe a lot of people are like this.
- 7:54Maybe they've never had that internal struggle where they got
- 7:58caught up in something, a perspective, a situation, a
- 8:02relationship. They just always saw things as
- 8:07they were, as they are, and they let things happen.
- 8:13I had a friend that used to say wait and see.
- 8:16No matter what I would say to her, that was her response.
- 8:20Just wait and see. And when I think of that
- 8:24response, I don't think that she could be carrying that much
- 8:26emotion to have that perspective because most people that are in
- 8:30it, they want answers or maybe they want to take action some
- 8:35way so that they can control a situation or an outcome.
- 8:39And in that statement, wait and see.
- 8:43It's nudging us to release the hold.
- 8:47Let things be as they are. And when I found a way out, I
- 8:53found that everything became calm.
- 8:55Where there was drama, now there's peace.
- 8:58Where there was long conversations about something I
- 9:01couldn't change for somebody else, or something I wish didn't
- 9:04happen to me that did happen, there's none of that.
- 9:08There's just acceptance of what is.
- 9:11I guess I'm living in the isness of a situation, accepting that
- 9:16if this person doesn't call, it's because they don't want to
- 9:18talk. If this guy doesn't like you,
- 9:20it's because he doesn't see you as a potential partner.
- 9:24If you didn't get a call back for a part, there's no need to
- 9:28think that there's something wrong with you, something that
- 9:30you need to change. Instead, it's about accepting
- 9:33that you weren't right for what they were looking for right now.
- 9:38Maybe when you take the emotions out and the hopes, the wishes,
- 9:43maybe all you're left with is clarity.
- 9:46This may sound like an oversimplification.
- 9:49Just stop dreaming, hoping, wishing and having emotions.
- 9:54Like it's that easy. But when I just saw things for
- 9:57what they were, actually things just became clear.
- 10:03Maybe the reason why now I can leave emotions out of things,
- 10:07it's because I've learned so much about different types of
- 10:09people and situations and I realized that I don't know
- 10:13always what's going on. I don't have all the facts
- 10:17whether I know that or not. So I shouldn't begin to assume
- 10:20or take things personally. Over the last few years I've
- 10:24learned about sociopaths and narcissists.
- 10:27I've learned about people that can fall in love with chachi PT
- 10:31and value that relationship more than any other.
- 10:34I've met so many new people and said goodbye to so many others
- 10:38that I guess seeing things clearly must be a byproduct of
- 10:42this understanding that change happens.
- 10:45Situations are just that situational.
- 10:48They are fleeting moments and over investing in time,
- 10:53feelings, emotions and energy. The return isn't greater than
- 10:57the investment. We don't have to make things so
- 11:00complicated. We choose to be in it.
- 11:04We choose to let our emotions drive instead of taking a beat.
- 11:09We choose to invest our time in something.
- 11:12It's us that makes the decision to get caught up in something,
- 11:16in whatever it is that we want to invest in.
- 11:19Whatever matters to us at that moment.
- 11:22And for some of us, we want so badly for things to be
- 11:25different. We want so badly for people to
- 11:27change. We want, we want, we want.
- 11:31But all that wanting is a lot of energy spent.
- 11:36And the outcome is generally nada.
- 11:39Because no matter how much 1 ruminates, worries, hopes, or
- 11:44gets confused about how a situation could turn out that
- 11:47way, everything is still just going to play out the way it's
- 11:50going to play out. And all this consideration and
- 11:54overthinking and over wishing and wanting isn't going to pay
- 11:59out unless you have full control over a situation and its
- 12:03outcome. Sometimes you just have to
- 12:06release things, release the hold and accept.
- 12:12Accept your role in things. Accept what you can change and
- 12:16what you can't and allow people to be who they are or situations
- 12:21to be what they are. And I think once you see things
- 12:26this clearly, at least for me, you can't Unsee it.
- 12:31So if you find yourself in it, just remember you have a choice
- 12:37and you can find your way out. Thanks for listening.
