- 0:21Mocktail Minutes: Hello everyone.
- 0:22Mocktail Minutes: Welcome back to this week's episode of Mocktail Minutes.
- 0:25Mocktail Minutes: This is Bailey.
- 0:26Mocktail Minutes: And this is Brianna.
- 0:28Mocktail Minutes: This week I am drinking a real tea.
- 0:30Mocktail Minutes: I drank one of these before, but I saw they had the Morgan Wallen ones.
- 0:35Mocktail Minutes: I thought it was like a flavor, like a Morgan Wallen flavor.
- 0:38Mocktail Minutes: I was like, Oh, maybe blueberry or something.
- 0:41Mocktail Minutes: It's just like tea, but like Morgan Wallen endorsing it.
- 0:47Mocktail Minutes: That's funny.
- 0:47Mocktail Minutes: I would have thought it was like his favorite flavor or something.
- 0:50Mocktail Minutes: I don't know.
- 0:50Mocktail Minutes: I thought it was gonna be like, I mean, it's blue.
- 0:53Mocktail Minutes: So I was expecting blueberry or I don't know.
- 0:55Mocktail Minutes: But yeah, it's, it's just tea.
- 0:58Mocktail Minutes: And the tagline is tastes like Tennessee.
- 1:00Mocktail Minutes: So that's funny.
- 1:04Mocktail Minutes: Have you, I'm drinking a culture pop.
- 1:06Mocktail Minutes: Have you had one of these on here before?
- 1:09Mocktail Minutes: No, I've never heard of that.
- 1:10Mocktail Minutes: So Victor, he found it at, he was at Walmart and he was like, Oh, you should try this one.
- 1:16Mocktail Minutes: It says it's like a fizzy gutsy probiotic soda.
- 1:19Mocktail Minutes: It's, I don't really know really how much of a probiotic soda it is.
- 1:23Mocktail Minutes: So it has like water.
- 1:25Mocktail Minutes: It doesn't have any added sugar, but it does have fruit from concentrate.
- 1:28Mocktail Minutes: And we're going to get into that today.
- 1:30Mocktail Minutes: And then it's like, Last ingredient is live probiotic, like a live strain.
- 1:36Mocktail Minutes: So I don't, I don't know how amazing it is for your gut, but it tastes decent.
- 1:42Mocktail Minutes: Like I don't get them all the time, but I mean, if you want something carbonated, it's, it's fine.
- 1:47Mocktail Minutes: Every time I'll have to look and see if I find this.
- 1:50Mocktail Minutes: I have not seen them.
- 1:51Mocktail Minutes: But whenever I think about these probiotic sodas or the prebiotic sodas, I think there's probiotic ones.
- 1:58Mocktail Minutes: Yeah, probiotic drinks.
- 2:00Mocktail Minutes: I always think about the poppy lawsuit that came out and they're like, this is not actually gut health.
- 2:07Mocktail Minutes: I'm like, I mean, they're not claiming to cure you.
- 2:10Mocktail Minutes: Anything with fiber is technically like gut supportive.
- 2:15Mocktail Minutes: Yeah.
- 2:16Mocktail Minutes: I don't know.
- 2:16Mocktail Minutes: I feel like kumbachas over there, like being quiet.
- 2:19Mocktail Minutes: Like, yeah.
- 2:20Mocktail Minutes: Like don't look at my added sugars.
- 2:23Mocktail Minutes: Don't look at it.
- 2:24Mocktail Minutes: All right.
- 2:24Mocktail Minutes: Yeah.
- 2:24Mocktail Minutes: This one, it doesn't say like, and it doesn't have any claims.
- 2:28Mocktail Minutes: It just says fizzy and gutsy probiotic soda.
- 2:30Mocktail Minutes: So yeah, I know.
- 2:31Mocktail Minutes: And then everyone now thinks like poppy is like horrible.
- 2:34Mocktail Minutes: I'm like, no, it's just somebody got mad at the claims on their can, which I didn't think were that bad out of alignment with what it's doing.
- 2:43Mocktail Minutes: Yeah.
- 2:43Mocktail Minutes: I mean, It has fiber.
- 2:45Mocktail Minutes: It's going to be a prebiotic.
- 2:48Mocktail Minutes: Fiber is a prebiotic.
- 2:49Mocktail Minutes: Like, that's just it.
- 2:50Mocktail Minutes: If it has cultures in it, then yeah, it's a probiotic.
- 2:53Mocktail Minutes: Even though we don't know how much, I mean, it's still gonna obviously have something.
- 2:57Mocktail Minutes: But yeah, I think it's weird to expect any one thing to like cure you.
- 3:02Mocktail Minutes: Yeah, exactly.
- 3:03Mocktail Minutes: I just like think of like all the other sodas out there doing it or like just triple checking all their labels.
- 3:08Mocktail Minutes: You're like, dig it or renext.
- 3:11Mocktail Minutes: Yeah, but yeah, it's it's just a fun drink.
- 3:14Mocktail Minutes: So don't take it too seriously.
- 3:16Mocktail Minutes: I guess we're really worried about your gut health.
- 3:18Mocktail Minutes: I probably wouldn't start here.
- 3:20Mocktail Minutes: Yeah, I really wouldn't.
- 3:22Mocktail Minutes: That's not our expertise.
- 3:24Mocktail Minutes: I mean, we can help you, but the gut is so crazy.
- 3:27Mocktail Minutes: We're actually having a gut health expert come on in like two weeks.
- 3:32Mocktail Minutes: Yeah.
- 3:33Mocktail Minutes: So for you in two weeks, and we're going to be myth busting all the gut health things.
- 3:38Mocktail Minutes: And part of it is talking about probiotics.
- 3:40Mocktail Minutes: And it's from one of our favorite dietitians.
- 3:42Mocktail Minutes: I'll keep it a secret.
- 3:44Mocktail Minutes: Yeah, we won't tell you, but it's going to be a good one.
- 3:46Mocktail Minutes: And that is definitely where you should get a lot of your gut health information from.
- 3:50Mocktail Minutes: Cause yeah, it's crazy.
- 3:51Mocktail Minutes: It's a crazy world out there for good health basics and the foundational parts, but your gut just like determines everything in your body.
- 4:01Mocktail Minutes: So that's why we have people like.
- 4:04Mocktail Minutes: I know.
- 4:09Mocktail Minutes: I love it.
- 4:10Mocktail Minutes: I'm fascinated with it, but it's almost, it's so overwhelming that I'm like, I don't think I can go down this rabbit hole and have this be like what I focus on.
- 4:17Mocktail Minutes: No, I'll leave it to them.
- 4:21Mocktail Minutes: Anyways, today we're talking about juicing.
- 4:26Mocktail Minutes: I feel like this is popular, especially in the summertime, but also in the changing seasons.
- 4:33Mocktail Minutes: So a lot of times when we're going to fall, people are looking for weight loss because it's like, we came off of summer, summer was wild.
- 4:39Mocktail Minutes: Let's get this going.
- 4:41Mocktail Minutes: So that's a season change or it's like after the holidays.
- 4:47Mocktail Minutes: Another season change was a busy time or then again, like getting ready for summer or getting ready for spring, right?
- 4:52Mocktail Minutes: Whatever it is.
- 4:53Mocktail Minutes: I feel like juicing becomes popular because there is a lot of marketing I would say around it, but a lot of it has to do with the marketing.
- 5:03Mocktail Minutes: I think just being around detoxing and I would say it's promoted as like a weight loss type thing.
- 5:10Mocktail Minutes: A lot of times we're going to, we're going to give you the download, the DL.
- 5:16Mocktail Minutes: what we think about juicing I'll just start with this not all juice is created equal I think when I think about juicing as it's typically referred to I don't love it But I do think you can incorporate juice to get some nutrients and that's totally fine.
- 5:35Mocktail Minutes: But again, not all juices create equal.
- 5:37Mocktail Minutes: So there's different types.
- 5:38Mocktail Minutes: There's cold press and concentrate.
- 5:40Mocktail Minutes: I feel like those are your main ones.
- 5:42Mocktail Minutes: So there might be other ones, but we'll just do those cold press.
- 5:46Mocktail Minutes: It's going to retain more of your nutrients.
- 5:49Mocktail Minutes: So it's also the more expensive one.
- 5:51Mocktail Minutes: It's usually the ones in the cold section.
- 5:53Mocktail Minutes: They do have them in like the regular juice section, but these are more fresh.
- 5:57Mocktail Minutes: They're going to have a ton more nutrients, the juice from concentrate.
- 6:01Mocktail Minutes: It's going to leave out a lot of what you think you're getting from juice.
- 6:05Mocktail Minutes: Like when you like get it and you see all these like fruits and vegetables in it, and you're like, Oh my gosh, I'm getting so many vitamins and minerals.
- 6:11Mocktail Minutes: Not so much because it removes fiber.
- 6:14Mocktail Minutes: It removes vitamins.
- 6:15Mocktail Minutes: It does remove minerals.
- 6:16Mocktail Minutes: And then.
- 6:17Mocktail Minutes: It goes through a heating process and that destroys some of the heat sensitive vitamins like pure vitamin C.
- 6:22Mocktail Minutes: So when it's a great source of vitamin C, like, yeah, those fruits and vegetables are, but the content of vitamin C in that might not be as great as you think it is.
- 6:32Mocktail Minutes: Yeah, I mean, it's kind of what we were talking about with the poppies, the labeling, it can be a little misleading sometimes.
- 6:40Mocktail Minutes: But with Juicing.
- 6:41Mocktail Minutes: I actually have a juicer.
- 6:42Mocktail Minutes: I've never used it.
- 6:44Mocktail Minutes: I'm debating getting rid of it because I'm like, It's kind of a lot of work and I'm not really a big juice person.
- 6:49Mocktail Minutes: I will get juices like fresh ones from these local places around me.
- 6:57Mocktail Minutes: With a meal or I've sometimes done it for like a pre workout and that's kind of good times to do it where, I mean, we'll get into this, but good times to do it.
- 7:06Mocktail Minutes: So, I mean, benefits of juicing, they can be nutrient dense, especially for eating the cold press, because it's going to retain more of those vitamins, the minerals, the antioxidants.
- 7:16Mocktail Minutes: So it can be a concentrated form of those, which is nice.
- 7:22Mocktail Minutes: And then the other thing that.
- 7:24Mocktail Minutes: Comes with juicing is that it is easy to digest because I mean, it's kind of like it's already digested And so it's Yeah, it's like already broken down the fibers removed and then it can be quickly absorbed by the body So that's why you could use it as like a pre workout type of drink to feel your muscles and In the summer, I think it also gets popular because it is a hydrator juices, especially Coming from fruit that's higher in water content like Watermelon or like a cucumber that's going to help keep you hydrated and it gives you something different than water.
- 8:02Mocktail Minutes: And then kind of on the flip side things to consider the sugar content in them.
- 8:07Mocktail Minutes: So we've talked in our sugar episode before that, like sugar is not, we got a thumbs up on the zoom sugar is not like the sugar and fruit is not the same as like the sugar we're having from cake.
- 8:24Mocktail Minutes: We're kind of it's another fear thing that's around on social media that we should avoid avoid fruit because it has all the sugar.
- 8:31Mocktail Minutes: I don't think that, but when you're juicing things, especially your fruit juices can be high in sugar, which is going to impact your blood sugar levels.
- 8:42Mocktail Minutes: And that's because you're stripping it of the fiber.
- 8:45Mocktail Minutes: And if that's all you're drinking, yeah, I mean, it's going to be broken down to sugar.
- 8:50Mocktail Minutes: That's what, with all things, when we talk about the blood sugar rollercoaster, oftentimes I think we can automatically just think about gummy worms or candy.
- 8:59Mocktail Minutes: And so everyone's like, I don't really eat that much sugar, but any carbohydrate is going to break down to sugar, but you also can't tell me a blueberry is the same thing as a gummy worm.
- 9:10Mocktail Minutes: No, because the blueberry has vitamins and minerals in it.
- 9:13Mocktail Minutes: It does have fiber in it, if it's in its normal form.
- 9:16Mocktail Minutes: So it's very different.
- 9:17Mocktail Minutes: They're not created equal.
- 9:18Mocktail Minutes: Like that's just the reality of it.
- 9:19Mocktail Minutes: They might all break down to the same kind of basic structure, but you're getting more from the fruit than you're getting from candy.
- 9:27Mocktail Minutes: And that's one thing, like I would say, if you really like juice, be strategic.
- 9:31Mocktail Minutes: Like, I'd probably splurge on the higher nutrient juice.
- 9:35Mocktail Minutes: I would use it maybe before a workout.
- 9:37Mocktail Minutes: Like you were saying, that would be a great pre workout, especially if you have a hard time eating things.
- 9:42Mocktail Minutes: Like if you're working out in the morning, some juice can be great.
- 9:46Mocktail Minutes: You can use it if you like live in a really hot place and you're outside and you're working having some like juice would be a great idea because it's going to replenish like some of your electrolytes.
- 9:56Mocktail Minutes: It's going to help help you absorb your electrolytes better because you need sugar to do that.
- 10:00Mocktail Minutes: So it's a good option.
- 10:02Mocktail Minutes: If you are juicing at home, if yours has the one where it like separates the pulp, which I think they all do, but I don't know if like, I know all juicers are a little bit different.
- 10:14Mocktail Minutes: I would say put the pulp.
- 10:16Mocktail Minutes: Back in or some of it, mix it up, have it that way.
- 10:19Mocktail Minutes: So at least you're getting some of the fiber, like just being strategic about when you have it.
- 10:24Mocktail Minutes: Like I probably wouldn't have a big giant glass of juice, even if it was like a good cold press one by itself in the middle of the day when I'm sitting down watching TV doing nothing.
- 10:33Mocktail Minutes: Right.
- 10:33Mocktail Minutes: So you can be strategic about it.
- 10:35Mocktail Minutes: Just like you can be strategic about everything else.
- 10:38Mocktail Minutes: But yeah, time and place.
- 10:41Mocktail Minutes: You mentioned fiber too.
- 10:42Mocktail Minutes: So part of that, when you're taking out the fiber, like I mentioned, the blood sugar balance, but it's also when you take out that fiber, you're not going to be as satisfied with that.
- 10:52Mocktail Minutes: So I've seen a lot of companies promote like the detoxes or a juice cleanse, where it's like, you're just drinking juice all day long for a week or whatever.
- 11:02Mocktail Minutes: I mean, You're probably gonna be super hungry, but also if you're just like filling up on juice You could potentially like gain weight with it, even though you're just eating fruits and veggies But you're not getting that fullness factor because you're not really getting in protein.
- 11:19Mocktail Minutes: You're not really getting in fiber.
- 11:20Mocktail Minutes: You're not getting in fat, which are all things that help keep you full.
- 11:25Mocktail Minutes: So it can be easy to overdo it, not to say you're just going to gain all this weight in a week.
- 11:30Mocktail Minutes: But I mean, if you do this often, yeah, it can be an easy way to be adding up extra calories that maybe you don't necessarily need.
- 11:39Mocktail Minutes: And they're just kind of running through you essentially.
- 11:42Mocktail Minutes: Yeah, well that and then you have like the rebound thing, right?
- 11:46Mocktail Minutes: So, you know, you haven't eaten for a couple of days.
- 11:48Mocktail Minutes: You're surviving off juice.
- 11:50Mocktail Minutes: It is high sugar, but then also you get off the juice and you're hungry and you end up eating more than you would.
- 11:58Mocktail Minutes: And then it's just like rinse and repeat, which it's just like, That's not really serving you.
- 12:04Mocktail Minutes: You're gonna be hungry.
- 12:05Mocktail Minutes: I've juiced before.
- 12:06Mocktail Minutes: And the worst thing about it, is it's so freaking expensive.
- 12:10Mocktail Minutes: Yes.
- 12:10Mocktail Minutes: It's like, I could've just starved myself for free.
- 12:13Mocktail Minutes: Yeah, cause you need it.
- 12:14Mocktail Minutes: Like such a large amount of produce to make such a small amount of juice.
- 12:18Mocktail Minutes: I always think of like the Naked juices when you look at it and it's like an apple two servings of strawberries like a three banana Whatever it is.
- 12:29Mocktail Minutes: I'm, just like that's a lot for this like little bottle.
- 12:31Mocktail Minutes: I'm like, that's a lot And you drink and you're like, oh look at me I just got like eight different fruits in But I mean, drinking that juice versus if you were to actually eat those is going to feel very different.
- 12:46Mocktail Minutes: And that's why you can drink it.
- 12:47Mocktail Minutes: And you're like, Oh, that was good.
- 12:49Mocktail Minutes: And I could probably drink a few more where if you actually had an apple, a banana, two mangoes, 15 strawberries, or whatever they're putting in it.
- 12:59Mocktail Minutes: You're probably going to feel a lot fuller.
- 13:02Mocktail Minutes: Exactly.
- 13:03Mocktail Minutes: Which kind of leads into the next thing.
- 13:05Mocktail Minutes: One reason why drinking a lot of juice or juicing or relying on it for weight loss might not be great is it can cause a lot of GI upset and really like diarrhea.
- 13:15Mocktail Minutes: So I feel like a lot of people are like, Oh yeah, they lost weight because number one, they're not eating.
- 13:20Mocktail Minutes: And the number two, they're a little dehydrated because they've been like pooping their brains out from all this food.
- 13:25Mocktail Minutes: Like juice, you know, which is crazy to me because the majority of people that I know that asked me What do you think about juicing or people who like, would never go grab an apple and eat it.
- 13:36Mocktail Minutes: Like they're terrified of the apple, but the juicing is okay.
- 13:40Mocktail Minutes: It's I'm, I don't know, but yeah, I'm like, well, maybe because you're sitting on the toilet for a week, which I don't recommend.
- 13:48Mocktail Minutes: And see, I have the opposite where I have a lot of more health conscious people who are really focused on their nutrition, that are interested in juicing because of.
- 13:57Mocktail Minutes: A lot of times, it's because they're going to these places that are making their own juices, so they see it a lot.
- 14:04Mocktail Minutes: And going back to like the claims of the detoxing, this is what gets everyone.
- 14:10Mocktail Minutes: Detox is like a buzzword.
- 14:12Mocktail Minutes: But really, detoxing is just removing toxins from the body.
- 14:17Mocktail Minutes: And your body does this.
- 14:21Mocktail Minutes: Your body has to do this to keep you alive.
- 14:23Mocktail Minutes: So this is the role that your liver primarily plays, but also like your kidneys, your lungs, your skin, all of them help to eliminate waste and toxins from your body.
- 14:36Mocktail Minutes: So when they met like juicing for D for detoxing, I mean, there's not a lot of evidence that it's the juicing itself.
- 14:43Mocktail Minutes: What it really could be is maybe the nutrients you're getting more of those vitamins and minerals and antioxidants when you're Including those versus not including those.
- 14:54Mocktail Minutes: You're also probably hydrating a little bit better, especially if you're getting those high water content fruits in.
- 15:01Mocktail Minutes: You're increasing your fruits and vegetables.
- 15:03Mocktail Minutes: So again, you're getting more of those nutrients.
- 15:06Mocktail Minutes: And then, I mean, it could probably provide you with some digestive rest because you're not really having to put a lot of work into digest it and absorb it, it's already really broken down.
- 15:19Mocktail Minutes: So, I mean, those are ways that it could potentially have like a detoxing effect on it.
- 15:24Mocktail Minutes: But at the end of the day, you don't necessarily need to do a detox program.
- 15:28Mocktail Minutes: If your liver and your lungs and your kidneys and I mean your skin, is your skin working?
- 15:36Mocktail Minutes: If all those things are working, you can detox and you should be detoxing every day, all day.
- 15:43Mocktail Minutes: Yeah.
- 15:44Mocktail Minutes: Well, and my thing too, With detoxing and this isn't so much with juice But I see this a lot with a lot of different supplements and stuff like that Like everything that we do is filtered by it goes through the liver and it's filtered by the kidneys.
- 15:59Mocktail Minutes: And so Just stop putting so much strain on those organs, you know, like drink a little bit, have some more water, lay off the alcohol, lay off a lot of the highly processed stuff.
- 16:11Mocktail Minutes: Give it like some, you know, don't be over supplementing.
- 16:14Mocktail Minutes: Like I think juicing just feels nice and light.
- 16:19Mocktail Minutes: And so it feels like, Oh, good.
- 16:20Mocktail Minutes: And if you talk, saying I'm getting rid of all this stuff, but yeah, daily, you're already doing that.
- 16:25Mocktail Minutes: And.
- 16:26Mocktail Minutes: Usually I see a lot of extremes too.
- 16:28Mocktail Minutes: It's like people are like an all or nothing and it's like either they're juicing or they're like going out on the weekend and having like five cocktails in a sitting.
- 16:35Mocktail Minutes: So it's like we could, we could work in some cold press juice, get to get some more nutrients and we can also not do this and then give our body like an easier time.
- 16:45Mocktail Minutes: But yeah, like we're detoxing every day.
- 16:46Mocktail Minutes: We have to, we would die.
- 16:49Mocktail Minutes: Yeah.
- 16:49Mocktail Minutes: And exactly what you said, especially if you're going from one extreme to the other, like you're either juicing or you're downing margaritas all weekend, you are going to feel better.
- 16:58Mocktail Minutes: Because you're not putting a poison basically in your body.
- 17:01Mocktail Minutes: You're getting more of those vitamins and minerals.
- 17:04Mocktail Minutes: So not to say that you won't feel different, but at the end of the day, you probably are going to have some stomach upset.
- 17:11Mocktail Minutes: You're probably going to be really hungry.
- 17:14Mocktail Minutes: You're probably going to end up overeating on day three of your juicing.
- 17:18Mocktail Minutes: You're going to be pretty tired.
- 17:19Mocktail Minutes: I would say you're going to have blood sugar spikes.
- 17:22Mocktail Minutes: You might have some mood swings with that.
- 17:23Mocktail Minutes: So a lot of things can come with it.
- 17:26Mocktail Minutes: Okay.
- 17:27Mocktail Minutes: So again, not to say that juicing is bad.
- 17:29Mocktail Minutes: We just have to use it in a way that benefits us.
- 17:33Mocktail Minutes: So yeah, use it for a pre workout, do it with a meal, watch how much you're doing.
- 17:38Mocktail Minutes: Like I wouldn't do two cups at one time.
- 17:40Mocktail Minutes: Cause there could be a lot of quick digesting carbohydrates at once and you may not need that many.
- 17:45Mocktail Minutes: So those are just some things to consider.
- 17:47Mocktail Minutes: And then the other thing I would say, like thinking about smoothies.
- 17:51Mocktail Minutes: Versus juicing, not the same way.
- 17:55Mocktail Minutes: Both can help you get in your fruits and vegetables, but in terms of like nutrition and their benefits, they are, I would say different because I mean, I said, both of them, you're going to get nutrients, but the difference with the smoothie, you're going to retain that fiber because it's not going anywhere.
- 18:15Mocktail Minutes: Like everything you put in your blender.
- 18:18Mocktail Minutes: You're drinking, like it's not coming out.
- 18:21Mocktail Minutes: And I have had the question before is like, do smoothies take out the fiber?
- 18:26Mocktail Minutes: I mean, yes and no, but like, it's not leaving the blender.
- 18:30Mocktail Minutes: You're still getting it.
- 18:32Mocktail Minutes: Your blender is breaking it down.
- 18:34Mocktail Minutes: So I think that's where some confusion can happen is your fibers bringing.
- 18:39Mocktail Minutes: broken down.
- 18:39Mocktail Minutes: So your body doesn't necessarily have to work as hard to digest that.
- 18:43Mocktail Minutes: And I think that's where some people see where smoothies don't keep them full as long.
- 18:50Mocktail Minutes: So it could be that, or it can also be if you're just doing a fruit smoothie and you don't have any protein, you don't have any fat, that's also why it's not keeping you full.
- 18:59Mocktail Minutes: But the fiber that stays in it is actually what kind of gives smoothies that thicker type texture.
- 19:08Mocktail Minutes: So you're not really losing it, it's just broken down compared to if you were to buy it into an apple type of thing or a whole strawberry.
- 19:17Mocktail Minutes: It's just like bypassing One of the digestion steps, right?
- 19:22Mocktail Minutes: Like digestion starts in your mouth when you're chewing.
- 19:25Mocktail Minutes: That's one of the first ways that we start breaking down our food and you're blending it.
- 19:28Mocktail Minutes: So you don't necessarily need to do that.
- 19:30Mocktail Minutes: And so, yeah, it's, your body's not working as hard.
- 19:34Mocktail Minutes: And I, yeah, I think that's why people sometimes like feel hungry or they, or they feel like Like I don't feel fulfilled unless I'm chewing my food.
- 19:41Mocktail Minutes: I get that a lot.
- 19:43Mocktail Minutes: So this is where I'm like, we'll make it a little bit thicker.
- 19:45Mocktail Minutes: Don't blend it as much.
- 19:46Mocktail Minutes: Maybe like an acai bowl type like texture.
- 19:49Mocktail Minutes: If you really kind of like to chew or add some crunch to it.
- 19:52Mocktail Minutes: But the whole, I get that question a lot.
- 19:56Mocktail Minutes: I was, I was getting it a lot when that TOK was going around where it's like, if you blend a banana, like.
- 20:04Mocktail Minutes: You're getting five times the amount of sugar, like what, what do you think our teeth are doing?
- 20:10Mocktail Minutes: Like to the, I don't, it was, so I had to like really talk some people off the ledge with that, but you could, if you wanted to, if you have like a juice, you really love, you can add some juice to your smoothie.
- 20:23Mocktail Minutes: Like that's something that you can do to make it a little more tropical.
- 20:26Mocktail Minutes: Right.
- 20:26Mocktail Minutes: Obviously being mindful of the other stuff you're putting in your smoothie, because the juice does have the sugar and the carbs.
- 20:32Mocktail Minutes: But yeah, you know.
- 20:33Mocktail Minutes: Pick whichever one works for you.
- 20:34Mocktail Minutes: You could also use like juice.
- 20:36Mocktail Minutes: I like to do some cold, cold pressed juice sometimes like in my mineral mocktail, especially if it's like high in vitamin C.
- 20:42Mocktail Minutes: It is it's a whole food form of vitamin c it helps you Absorb those minerals so it could be strategic.
- 20:49Mocktail Minutes: I think juice is like really demonized especially like in the mom world I meet so many who are like, oh, we don't know how to juice Okay, and there's a difference between like a fruit punch and like I mean, especially if you're juicing from home, but like 100 percent juice, there are differences.
- 21:07Mocktail Minutes: So I mean, take a peek at your labels.
- 21:09Mocktail Minutes: But if you're deciding like, which is better, because at the end of the day, we have never said or I don't think either of us believe that one food is off limits or anything.
- 21:21Mocktail Minutes: Every single food can fit into your diet, you just have to figure out where it fits.
- 21:27Mocktail Minutes: So Thinking of just like juicing compared to smoothies, do a juice if you want something quick and nutrient dense, add it to a snack, add it to a meal, use it as that pre workout.
- 21:37Mocktail Minutes: You could do it if you're looking for something a little bit easier to digest.
- 21:41Mocktail Minutes: Again, I wouldn't do it by itself, but it can ease the stomach a little bit.
- 21:45Mocktail Minutes: Like if maybe you're having some stomach upset, you just need to, you just need to chill.
- 21:50Mocktail Minutes: Like that can be a good way to get those.
- 21:52Mocktail Minutes: Whole food, vitamin C.
- 21:53Mocktail Minutes: And when you're like recovering from an illness and then, I mean, you're going to get that concentrated form of those vitamin minerals.
- 22:01Mocktail Minutes: And then smoothies would like a snack, or you can do it as a meal, you're wanting to get in fiber protein and healthy fats, and you want it to be more of like a sustained energy source.
- 22:14Mocktail Minutes: So that's kind of the difference between those, but also like I said, smoothies, you're going to retain those nutrients, nothing fell out of the blender.
- 22:22Mocktail Minutes: I think that's an easy way to remember it.
- 22:24Mocktail Minutes: Yeah, and I would say like that would be a hierarchy, right?
- 22:27Mocktail Minutes: Like if you're really focused on getting like your vitamins and minerals from fruit and you like want it or vegetables and you're trying to like, do it in a more strategic way.
- 22:36Mocktail Minutes: Smoothie is going to be number one because you're getting the whole fruit, the whole vegetable.
- 22:41Mocktail Minutes: I would say number two would be the juice you're making at home, especially if you could add back in the pulp or number three would be the cold pressed juice.
- 22:49Mocktail Minutes: So those would be like my top three.
- 22:51Mocktail Minutes: I would probably skip anything that's like juice from concentrate.
- 22:55Mocktail Minutes: That'd probably be the one that I wouldn't spend my money on.
- 22:57Mocktail Minutes: If you, yeah, just personally, if I'm trying to go for it with like, I want vitamins, minerals, I want like a good nutrient rich juice.
- 23:04Mocktail Minutes: And no, don't spend 250 on an expensive juicing company to send you Juice.
- 23:12Mocktail Minutes: Yeah.
- 23:12Mocktail Minutes: For your detox.
- 23:15Mocktail Minutes: Maybe I'll try my juicer this summer.
- 23:17Mocktail Minutes: It's just, it's so big and it's just gonna take a lot of work and it's just gonna take a lot of produce.
- 23:23Mocktail Minutes: Like I really don't, and like once you make it, I feel like if you make a large amount, it's not gonna be good for a long time.
- 23:31Mocktail Minutes: Like then I have to drink a bunch of juice and I don't drink a bunch of juice.
- 23:35Mocktail Minutes: So it just seems like more work I feel like they're cumbersome to clean.
- 23:39Mocktail Minutes: Which would make sense.
- 23:40Mocktail Minutes: 'cause you have to clean all the parts.
- 23:42Mocktail Minutes: It's like going through, it's like breast.
- 23:44Mocktail Minutes: I'm yeah.
- 23:46Mocktail Minutes: Oh yeah.
- 23:47Mocktail Minutes: You're not in a season where you're like, you know what I want to clean this and that I want to clean bottles and I want to clean a juicer.
- 23:52Mocktail Minutes: I'm just going to stick to my smoothies.
- 23:54Mocktail Minutes: We're doing good there.
- 23:57Mocktail Minutes: Yeah, those are simple enough.
- 23:59Mocktail Minutes: Yeah, by the way, on smoothies, for like fiber and everything, if you put apples or pears in your smoothies, you can keep the skin on that and you're getting even more fiber.
- 24:11Mocktail Minutes: Because that's where a lot of your fiber is.
- 24:14Mocktail Minutes: That's one reason why I like the smoothies is because you can just blend it all up.
- 24:17Mocktail Minutes: Like same with kiwis, cucumbers, you just throw it in.
- 24:20Mocktail Minutes: Strawberries, you can actually eat the leaves on strawberries.
- 24:24Mocktail Minutes: Yeah, I think that is a good summary of juicing.
- 24:27Mocktail Minutes: Again, it's not a bad thing.
- 24:29Mocktail Minutes: Just some awareness around it and you don't have to waste your money on these super expensive Juices, like I said, I will sometimes do it.
- 24:38Mocktail Minutes: I like to find local places that it's usually better quality some of the store brand ones are pretty good.
- 24:43Mocktail Minutes: But just use it strategically Also, don't like gag on a juice that's again expensive it's an expensive gag we don't want to do that You just yeah I will take that back.
- 25:01Mocktail Minutes: Sometimes I do get ones with like ginger and turmeric and like celery for when I'm getting sick.
- 25:08Mocktail Minutes: And I do gag on those, but it's for a cause.
- 25:11Mocktail Minutes: Yeah.
- 25:12Mocktail Minutes: It's for a cause.
- 25:14Mocktail Minutes: Yeah.
- 25:14Mocktail Minutes: No, I get it too.
- 25:15Mocktail Minutes: Like the ginger ones or it's like, it's like three times a year that I would do.
- 25:20Mocktail Minutes: That's not something I'm doing like every week.
- 25:23Mocktail Minutes: Yeah.
- 25:23Mocktail Minutes: Or like those little immunity shots, you know, they're not, no one's like, Oh, I'm so excited to drink this.
- 25:29Mocktail Minutes: No, it's usually just like down the hatch.

- 26:05Mocktail Minutes: Perfect.
- 26:06Mocktail Minutes: I'm like business expense for continuing education.
- 26:09Mocktail Minutes: Yes.
