- 1:20OK, so stubbornness comes from the ego.
- 1:24A stubborn personality says things like, well, I'm not
- 1:27texting first, I'm standing my ground, I'm not going to break.
- 1:31They can wait. I'm not admitting of them is
- 1:33wrong. But here's the thing,
- 1:36stubbornness is cognitive. It lives in the prefrontal
- 1:42cortex. The I've decided I'm not doing
- 1:46this part of the brain. However, attachment activation
- 1:52is physiological. It lives in the body and the
- 1:57body always wins. They cannot stubborn their way
- 2:03out of contacting you, their nervous system simply won't
- 2:07allow it. And once attachment activates,
- 2:11the body begins to send distress signals.
- 2:15These aren't thoughts, these are full body responses, stress
- 2:22responses. Eventually they're going to feel
- 2:25longing, which means they're going to experience things like
- 2:29increased cortisol, elevated heart rate at night, difficulty
- 2:34sleeping. This is when you get we get
- 2:36those sleepless nights, mental loops that they can't stop being
- 2:42irritable, intrusive thoughts, anxiety.
- 2:48You can override a thought. You cannot override your nervous
- 2:52system. The nervous system always wins.
- 2:55That's why even the most controlled, disciplined,
- 2:59emotionally shut down people eventually reach out.
- 3:03How do we know that? Because stubborn people
- 3:06eventually cry. Stubborn people eventually
- 3:08apologize. Stubborn people eventually call.
- 3:12They eventually fold. They eventually reveal feelings
- 3:15they swore they never show. The nervous system overrides
- 3:19ego, which is good news for you. So you're not depending on their
- 3:24willpower, you're depending on biology.
- 3:27Being stubborn only works in situations where they're not
- 3:32that emotionally invested, or their ego feels superior, or
- 3:38they don't see long term value in you or the relationship.
- 3:42Their interest is low, of course.
- 3:44I was going to mention that their attachment has not been
- 3:47activated. There's nothing at stake.
- 3:51So they feel like, well, there's nothing to lose, So what do I
- 3:53care? And also, if they know that you
- 3:57are eventually going to chase, so if you were anxious in the
- 4:00relationship, you always run after them no matter what, then
- 4:05they don't need to be stubborn because they know I'll hear from
- 4:08them eventually, which is why it's so important to stay in no
- 4:10contact. So in those situations, being
- 4:14stubborn is easy because the emotional stakes are low.
- 4:17However, when feelings are involved, the personality
- 4:20cracks. Think of the strongest, most
- 4:25prideful men. Mob bosses, ex military alpha
- 4:29males, hypermasculine guys, men who never apologize.
- 4:34Every single one of them breaks when emotion plus attachment
- 4:39plus shame collide. Pride doesn't protect you from
- 4:44attachment. If anything, it makes the
- 4:47emotional crash even harder. Now.
- 4:50Stubborn people shut down emotions, but they don't erase
- 4:53them. A stubborn person doesn't arrive
- 4:56above feeling guilty, longing, afraid.
- 5:00They're just delaying the feeling.
- 5:02Eventually the body says enough, fix this.
- 5:06Now every style, every attachment style breaks.
- 5:10But the mechanism that breaks it is different.
- 5:14So let's go through the different attachment style.
- 5:16So let's go with secure. About 50% of the population is
- 5:20secure. So they don't really want to be
- 5:22stubborn because they don't like the tension and they value
- 5:27connection. They want emotional clarity.
- 5:30And so they reach out because it feels healthier.
- 5:33Their logic overrides everything.
- 5:35They think this is dumb. Let me just reach out so there's
- 5:38no ego war, There's no push pull.
- 5:40Their body doesn't even need to override anything because their
- 5:43logic does. Anxious, which if you're
- 5:47listening to this, you're probably anxious.
- 5:48I find most people who listen and are trying to get an X back
- 5:51are anxious now. They break because the panic
- 5:55becomes unbearable. The uncertainty makes them
- 5:58physically uncomfortable. Their nervous system cannot sit
- 6:02with silence and uncertainty. As I'm sure you well know, the
- 6:06fear of abandonment triggers compulsion, and they actually
- 6:10physically feel sick if they try to hold out.
- 6:13So their body overrides pride and stubbornness very quickly,
- 6:18within hours or days, to relieve the panic.
- 6:22So this is the fastest override style.
- 6:26Dismissives, as you may have guessed, hold out the longest,
- 6:30but eventually the absence starts to feel hollow, and that
- 6:34familiar comfort in distance becomes uncomfortable.
- 6:38Curiosity creeps in. Their ego wants to restore
- 6:41harmony. So in this case, their rational
- 6:46mind wins, not their emotions. Dismissives stay gone the
- 6:51longest, but they come back when it makes logical sense because
- 6:55they think, well, this is inefficient.
- 6:57I want clarity. They calculate the cost benefit
- 7:02and decide to reconnect on their terms so their body doesn't take
- 7:06over, but their logic does. Now the fearful avoidant, which
- 7:10I know most of you are dating, it seems this is the style where
- 7:13stubbornness has the least power, the body overrides
- 7:17everything the hardest. And why is that?
- 7:21Because fearful avoidance have avoidant defenses which protect,
- 7:27but they have anxious wiring underneath which panics, and
- 7:31they have shame sensitivity and intense attachment needs and
- 7:36fear of abandonment and fear of closeness and emotional
- 7:40dysregulation. So this all builds up and builds
- 7:44up until the system cracks. So silence hits them the hardest
- 7:50physiologically. That's why they can go from zero
- 7:54to 60 emotionally with no warning, which is good for you
- 7:59if you're dating an FA. So even people who are stubborn
- 8:03as hell eventually call, text, apologize, break, crack, reach
- 8:09out, cave, soften, admit they messed up because the body
- 8:15forces movement when the emotional pressure gets too
- 8:18high. Personalities are stubborn,
- 8:21Attachment systems are not. Attachment moons always override
- 8:27ego logic and once the emotional pressure crosses A threshold,
- 8:32even the strongest ego runs out of fuel.
- 8:36Eventually the body says I am the captain now and makes them
- 8:41reach out. Isn't that great?
- 8:43So stubbornness may delay contact but it cannot prevent
- 8:47it. OK so now I want to hear from
- 8:50you. Are you still concerned that
- 8:53your ex is stubborn and won't reach out?
