- 1:33Speaker 4: handle being burnt out at work and needing a break
- 1:35Speaker 4: when you've got some financial goals and big responsibilities. Something
- 1:39Speaker 4: that you slid into my DMS about how do you
- 1:43Speaker 4: tell your job that you're quitting but still get a
- 1:45Speaker 4: good reference out of it? Oh tea, I don't know.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:50Speaker 5: I think you just should be.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Before we get there, though, I want to share our
- 1:56Speaker 4: five star review to just set the tone sound lovely?
- 1:59Speaker 2: Are you ready? This one's from Jen.
- 2:01Speaker 4: Jen says I always thought I was great with money
- 2:04Speaker 4: until I listened to this podcast.
- 2:05Speaker 2: I'm sorr free.
- 2:07Speaker 4: It turns out I was really good at not spending money,
- 2:10Speaker 4: leaving my savings to wither or away in a low
- 2:12Speaker 4: interest savings account being outpaced by inflation. Since listening and learning,
- 2:17Speaker 4: I now have twelve thousand dollars in shares and over
- 2:19Speaker 4: fifty thousand dollars in a high interest savings account for
- 2:23Speaker 4: my next house deposit. To do that right, next house
- 2:27Speaker 4: deposit with a property portfolio worth almost a million dollars
- 2:32Speaker 4: Oh my god, VD and the team make money so approachable.
- 2:37Speaker 4: I love their inspiring attitudes and the way they make
- 2:39Speaker 4: money talk accessible for women without any.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Of the misogynistic bs.
- 2:44Speaker 4: I've been listening since the beginning, and I'm part of
- 2:46Speaker 4: the fam for life. Guys, thank you so much for
- 2:49Speaker 4: all the work you do to change the lives of
- 2:51Speaker 4: so many.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Oh my, so lovely.
- 2:54Speaker 4: Thanks really say, which is like, yep, I've got twelve
- 2:57Speaker 4: grand in shares. I'm like a slay queen. Sorry, property
- 3:00Speaker 4: portfolio worth almost.
- 3:01Speaker 2: A million dollars. I know, that's so cool. Oh my god,
- 3:06Speaker 2: flex queen, and that's what I mean. Five star reviews
- 3:09Speaker 2: set the tone just so much more excited.
- 3:12Speaker 4: I'm like, yes, sorry, look at what we've done where
- 3:15Speaker 4: we ammed were ready. So with that, let's roll straight
- 3:18Speaker 4: into the Question of the Week, which is our favorite
- 3:21Speaker 4: part of Friday drinks, where you guys get to ask
- 3:23Speaker 4: us one question you are dying to know. It can
- 3:26Speaker 4: be literally about anything, and from the last few weeks,
- 3:30Speaker 4: you guys are really taking that live.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Really, it's fun, it's fun, it's different.
- 3:33Speaker 4: And I've picked this one because I think it's perfect
- 3:36Speaker 4: for the first week of summer, which is right now,
- 3:39Speaker 4: And it's from our friend Jamie, who wants to know, guys,
- 3:42Speaker 4: what's your favorite way to spend an hour?
- 3:43Speaker 2: Oh beautiful, that's hard.
- 3:47Speaker 5: That is a hard one.
- 3:49Speaker 3: I think it's going to be reading for me.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Reading. You are so curteous, it's really cute. She's the
- 3:54Speaker 2: most wholesome person I know nothing more.
- 3:57Speaker 6: I'm such a homebody, like I love being curled up
- 3:58Speaker 6: in bed with my kindle doing reading whatever the romanticity
- 4:02Speaker 6: flavor of.
- 4:03Speaker 2: The week is.
- 4:04Speaker 6: Otherwise, I think it like I love exploring, like when
- 4:08Speaker 6: you're traveling, like walking around and looking at something. I
- 4:10Speaker 6: don't really know how to verbalize that. I know what
- 4:12Speaker 6: you mean, you when you're just wondering and you're singing
- 4:14Speaker 6: and you're learning and all that sort of stuff.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Yeah, it's my simple answer.
- 4:19Speaker 4: Have you well?
- 4:20Speaker 5: I think like it really depends on the weather and
- 4:23Speaker 5: also am I doing? Am I like spending an hour
- 4:25Speaker 5: by myself? I'm going to see it by myself just
- 4:27Speaker 5: to be That was my assumption to you.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Yes, Oh, it has to be by yourself, by yourself.
- 4:31Speaker 4: Oh well, that kicks out mine. I'm gonna have to
- 4:33Speaker 4: think of newy onp anytime.
- 4:34Speaker 3: With my husband and maybe.
- 4:38Speaker 2: I like doing cassing to.
- 4:40Speaker 5: Do kisses honestly, like and something I love to do,
- 4:44Speaker 5: something I do all the time is just like on
- 4:45Speaker 5: a really sunny day, I'm going to assume it's a
- 4:47Speaker 5: sunny day.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we like we're finding the perfect hour.
- 4:49Speaker 5: Absolutely. I'm putting a giant fluffy blanket out on the floor,
- 4:53Speaker 5: I'm laying on top of it. I'm putting a podcast
- 4:54Speaker 5: on outside or inside outside, I'm meditating, I'm tanning, I'm.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Doing not we're not yeah, true, that's true.
- 5:04Speaker 5: Okay, so what is I'm not tanning, but I am
- 5:06Speaker 5: laying in the sun.
- 5:07Speaker 2: So you're wearing safety sps.
- 5:09Speaker 7: I've wear swifty SPF only nothing else and listening to
- 5:13Speaker 7: a podcast meditating And also like I'm also doing the
- 5:17Speaker 7: same thing where I'm kind of like exploring in the grass.
- 5:20Speaker 5: I like to eat grass. I know it's really weird,
- 5:22Speaker 5: but I really like the texture of grass. So I'm
- 5:24Speaker 5: I'm using, I'm looking through the grass. I'm just like picking.
- 5:28Speaker 5: I'm just like being one with the world, one with
- 5:30Speaker 5: the earth, you know, for for an hour.
- 5:32Speaker 3: I don't realize we could add so many things on.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Sorry, because I feel like, what are you doing while
- 5:38Speaker 2: you're reading.
- 5:39Speaker 3: At the beach, but like enjoying the warmth, listening to
- 5:43Speaker 3: the water. There's no one else there.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Me, no one else there, no one else. Have you
- 5:46Speaker 2: got to conquer a drink?
- 5:47Speaker 3: Absolutely?
- 5:48Speaker 6: I've got a big water and a slurpy and like
- 5:52Speaker 6: a punet of strawberries migration.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Actually right, So what are you snacking on?
- 5:59Speaker 5: I've got a bag of ball to fixed and water.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Okay, all right, yeah that's gone.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Now would you guys like to add any additional layers
- 6:07Speaker 4: to these hours that you're having?
- 6:10Speaker 3: I trust a little come to you.
- 6:13Speaker 4: Okay, okay, you guys are actually like you put a
- 6:16Speaker 4: lot of layers. Yeah, a lot of layers, but you're
- 6:18Speaker 4: very budget friendly. Sorry you said dream hour. I am
- 6:22Speaker 4: marching my way down to Aurora, spar In Sorrento, and
- 6:27Speaker 4: I am having like I've only got an hour, but
- 6:31Speaker 4: I'm using that whole hour for one.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Of their full body massages.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Oh so it's massaging me on the beach.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Yeah okay, yeah, actually.
- 6:40Speaker 5: I have a missus as well.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Oh okay, yeah yeah yeah. Good layers, good layers.
- 6:43Speaker 3: But are you doing like a multi treatment? They're doing
- 6:45Speaker 3: like your whole body.
- 6:45Speaker 4: I've only gotten an hour, and like, I am the
- 6:48Speaker 4: type of person that like, in my head, the massage
- 6:51Speaker 4: always goes too quick. So like in a perfect world,
- 6:54Speaker 4: stretching this out, I get the ninety minute, So I've
- 6:57Speaker 4: got ninety minutes. If you've given me an afternoon, perhaps
- 7:01Speaker 4: I'm also then going into their bath house after. I
- 7:03Speaker 4: don't want to do the bath house first. I want
- 7:06Speaker 4: to do the massage first, then the bath house because
- 7:09Speaker 4: the massage gets me like all relaxed and zen, and
- 7:12Speaker 4: then I can sit in the bath and sit in
- 7:14Speaker 4: all of the likes bars and just be like that
- 7:17Speaker 4: was the best massage.
- 7:18Speaker 5: I feel so sad.
- 7:19Speaker 4: I'm having a little herbal tea after I come out.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Oh my god, you guys didn't say that there was
- 7:24Speaker 4: a budget.
- 7:24Speaker 2: That's true.
- 7:25Speaker 4: I say, how are you spending an hour if you
- 7:27Speaker 4: have no money to spend I'm assuming someone else is
- 7:31Speaker 4: spending in Australia.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Want to be to the south of France all of
- 7:37Speaker 3: the aforementioned things.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I feel like, that's a fun question.
- 7:41Speaker 3: That's a great question.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Yeah, that's you guys.
- 7:43Speaker 4: Really took that and ran with that. Did you notice
- 7:45Speaker 4: none of us were investing? Is true everyday reality. Well, exactly,
- 7:50Speaker 4: I'm on the grind exactly.
- 7:51Speaker 5: We want to have a break from investing.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Miss Jessica money wins and confessions from the community. I
- 7:57Speaker 4: think we should segue over there. Just otherwise, we are
- 8:00Speaker 4: gonna start building entire realities in this hour that we
- 8:04Speaker 4: didn't even actually get.
- 8:05Speaker 2: We really will.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Well this week, I've got eight money in.
- 8:08Speaker 6: Firstly from Katie, who said she had a really fun
- 8:10Speaker 6: outing to her local crop swap group gathering. Katie said
- 8:15Speaker 6: she picked up a whole bunch of free plants and
- 8:17Speaker 6: kit for the balcony vegetable garden that she's working on.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Cue it's a fantastic community.
- 8:21Speaker 6: She's learning a lot and getting a lot of really
- 8:23Speaker 6: great tangible resources. And then somebody else, Simone replied and said,
- 8:27Speaker 6: love these. We have a monthly food swap in our
- 8:29Speaker 6: neighborhood to folk bring garden produce or baked treats and
- 8:32Speaker 6: everyone shares and chats.
- 8:33Speaker 8: Cool.
- 8:33Speaker 5: That's really cute.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Literally, I would have sign up from these. That sounds delightful.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Contract we sure can't have a village to be a village.
- 8:41Speaker 3: It's true.
- 8:41Speaker 6: I heard we'll workshop this and next I've got a
- 8:44Speaker 6: money in from Money who said she made banana bread
- 8:47Speaker 6: with bananas that would have been chucked out. Delightful, perfect,
- 8:50Speaker 6: good way to make sure reduce, reuse, recycle absolutely. Next,
- 8:53Speaker 6: I've got another food one with money loss from Madison,
- 8:56Speaker 6: who spent said she spent fifteen dollars on making your
- 9:00Speaker 6: soup and then bought more stuff to try and fix
- 9:02Speaker 6: it when it wasn't good. It was absolutely terrible. So
- 9:05Speaker 6: she said she made fifteen dollars soup for the chicken
- 9:07Speaker 6: to tw eat. And I like to think of my mind,
- 9:09Speaker 6: is the chickens being like.
- 9:11Speaker 2: We're it in good tonight. Yeah, that's so cute, clarious.
- 9:16Speaker 6: And then lastly this week, I've got a money in
- 9:19Speaker 6: from Rihanna, who said money in. I got a promotion
- 9:22Speaker 6: at my work and a twenty thousand dollars pay increase.
- 9:25Speaker 6: I've applied for this role twice previously and was unsuccessful,
- 9:28Speaker 6: but finally I've made it, sorry.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Paid off exactly.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Congratulations, It's so exciting.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Your first note is your first no, not the ultimate outcome,
- 9:39Speaker 4: exactly right, exactly. Your first no is your next yes
- 9:44Speaker 4: unless it comes to consent, and which case no is no.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 9:47Speaker 5: Well, that's exactly right.
- 9:48Speaker 2: But if it's your boss saying no to a pay rise,
- 9:50Speaker 2: that means not right now, no, right now?
- 9:52Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 9:52Speaker 5: Oh absolutely, So do you guys want to hear some
- 9:55Speaker 5: brick tips?
- 9:56Speaker 9: No?
- 9:56Speaker 3: Not really, absolutely fa.
- 10:00Speaker 2: I am very ready. Did you liberate them from Jess
- 10:03Speaker 2: this week?
- 10:06Speaker 5: I may have like liberated a few that I turned
- 10:09Speaker 5: into my own ideas.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Okay, all right, I'm ready to hear them.
- 10:12Speaker 5: So this first one comes from Devesh, who says it's
- 10:15Speaker 5: a perfect reminder that basically we're entering summer at festival season,
- 10:19Speaker 5: and if you want to go to your Meredith's, your
- 10:22Speaker 5: Golden planes, your straw very coded. Absolutely, Devesh, you know
- 10:27Speaker 5: me so well what you can do. And I think
- 10:30Speaker 5: that we've mentioned something similar before, but I just wanted
- 10:32Speaker 5: to like bring it up because I just got an
- 10:34Speaker 5: email about it. You can register to be a volunteer.
- 10:37Speaker 5: I don't know if you'll get approved or not. But
- 10:40Speaker 5: not just volunteering, there are food trucks that go there
- 10:43Speaker 5: are other little bits and pieces you can I got
- 10:46Speaker 5: a job literally just for the weekend in a Burger
- 10:48Speaker 5: truck so I can get to I can't remember what
- 10:50Speaker 5: festival it was a few years ago, but then you
- 10:52Speaker 5: then you're just in there for free exactly, and you
- 10:56Speaker 5: probably do go to bring some stuff. Maybe see if
- 10:59Speaker 5: some friends are going, you can like camp with them.
- 11:00Speaker 5: But otherwise you get a free ticket, and that ticket
- 11:03Speaker 5: is not cheap. So registered to volunteer or and if
- 11:07Speaker 5: you can't, he to get accepted. See who's actually going
- 11:10Speaker 5: to be there, like burger trucks and things like that,
- 11:13Speaker 5: and try and like apply for like a casual that's
- 11:15Speaker 5: really some job very and then you also make some money.
- 11:19Speaker 3: We love that.
- 11:19Speaker 5: We love making money.
- 11:21Speaker 2: And so that is from de Besh.
- 11:22Speaker 5: I thank you so much to Besh. And the sex
- 11:25Speaker 5: one comes from Robin, who has a genius tip to
- 11:28Speaker 5: curve spending. She says that when she feels like spending,
- 11:30Speaker 5: she heads to the secondhand shop, looks around and says,
- 11:33Speaker 5: this all used to be money.
- 11:35Speaker 4: Oh I saw someone say this on TikTok and it
- 11:37Speaker 4: really sent me for six I've been doing that with
- 11:39Speaker 4: my wardrobe recently.
- 11:40Speaker 2: I didn't fully get it.
- 11:42Speaker 4: So so you just look at everything in your wardrobe
- 11:44Speaker 4: and go this at one point was cash in my bank.
- 11:47Speaker 2: I've chosen this instead.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Did you go on TikTok?
- 11:49Speaker 6: I think did a beauty cabinet or something, or maybe
- 11:51Speaker 6: it's closed and she just had a pile of stuff
- 11:53Speaker 6: that presumably she'd cleaned out.
- 11:55Speaker 3: She wasn't using it or whatever. She's just like this
- 11:57Speaker 3: was money, and it's like you just look at me,
- 12:00Speaker 3: and I'm.
- 12:00Speaker 5: A you know, yeah, true, it's crazy. That's such a
- 12:03Speaker 5: good way to do that.
- 12:05Speaker 6: Like we don't need ten different hoistras or five different
- 12:09Speaker 6: yeah white T shirts or.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Whatever it is.
- 12:11Speaker 5: Yeah, that's so true, gorgeous Robin, thank you. And my
- 12:15Speaker 5: one is it's not really a brogue tip. It's more
- 12:18Speaker 5: of just like a tip in general, I would say,
- 12:20Speaker 5: because right now, like I know, I've meant this already,
- 12:22Speaker 5: but Jess's birthday, she really likes expensive beings, and in
- 12:26Speaker 5: particular who I've mentioned already, Kyla Lailoor, the fashion designer.
- 12:29Speaker 5: What I've done is just like Google image searched every
- 12:32Speaker 5: single piece that I can find, and try and find
- 12:35Speaker 5: those pieces on like deep hop or Facebook, marketplace or
- 12:38Speaker 5: even just like things that look similar. And I'm not
- 12:40Speaker 5: trying to like do like a doup kind of situation,
- 12:43Speaker 5: but honestly, if you can find a similar item of
- 12:46Speaker 5: clothing and it's kind of cool, like, just do that.
- 12:48Speaker 5: So my tip for you is, no matter what you're buying,
- 12:52Speaker 5: always Google image search it because you might find a
- 12:55Speaker 5: cheap alternative. You might find it on deep Pop, you
- 12:57Speaker 5: might find it on Facebook Marketplace, because all those things
- 12:59Speaker 5: do show up in the Google image search as well.
- 13:01Speaker 4: Jess, you sent me a dupe website yesterday.
- 13:04Speaker 6: Oh yes, we were talking about it in the group
- 13:05Speaker 6: chat we put for furniture specifically because.
- 13:08Speaker 4: I like your familiar And then I was like, if
- 13:11Speaker 4: you borrowed this from Jess, and then you hadn't I know?
- 13:13Speaker 2: She actually did not true.
- 13:15Speaker 4: Yesterday we were talking about couches, yes, hysterically and how
- 13:19Speaker 4: expensive couches can be yes, and Jess was like, the
- 13:22Speaker 4: couch I've picked out is astronomically expensive, but I want
- 13:25Speaker 4: this vibe still, And so we're having this group chat.
- 13:28Speaker 4: This is what happens. We have a on Slack, which
- 13:31Speaker 4: is our internal work messenger. We have a group chat
- 13:34Speaker 4: where everybody in the team is in it. It's just
- 13:37Speaker 4: called the water cooler because we started blowing up all
- 13:39Speaker 4: of like our other areas and other group chats that
- 13:42Speaker 4: were meant for important things with our drivel. So that's
- 13:44Speaker 4: where our drivell goes. Anyway, I learned so much from
- 13:47Speaker 4: that thread.
- 13:48Speaker 3: I love that thread.
- 13:49Speaker 6: Yeah, Brookshetter, it's dupe dot com great for finding furniture,
- 13:52Speaker 6: very similar concept.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Yes, you might have mentioned it before.
- 13:56Speaker 5: I'm not sure, yes, Because what you can do also
- 13:58Speaker 5: is you don't even have to go to the website.
- 13:59Speaker 5: You can put doop dot com. I think at the
- 14:01Speaker 5: start of the URL on a site that you're looking at,
- 14:05Speaker 5: like say it's like here or something like that, you
- 14:06Speaker 5: put at the start and it will find a dood
- 14:08Speaker 5: for you.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Because I'm looking at finish that right now.
- 14:11Speaker 6: A budget is not budgeting, No, it's so we will
- 14:15Speaker 6: be doing gorgeous but also why not absolutely?
- 14:19Speaker 2: Yeah, that's me for this week. That's that all right.
- 14:23Speaker 4: Well, what we're going to do is go to a
- 14:24Speaker 4: really quick break because on the flip side, we're going
- 14:26Speaker 4: to be talking about what do you do and how
- 14:28Speaker 4: do you handle being burnt out at work and needing
- 14:31Speaker 4: a break when you've got a whole heap of financial
- 14:32Speaker 4: goals and responsibilities and then you slid into my DMS
- 14:36Speaker 4: this week? How do you tell your job that you're
- 14:38Speaker 4: quitting but then also come out the other side with
- 14:41Speaker 4: a good reference, so guys don't go anywhere.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Welcome back, everybody. Let's take a listen to this week's
- 14:50Speaker 3: money dilemma.

- 15:11Speaker 2: Now, let's take a listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 15:17Speaker 8: Hi, She's on the Money. I have a money dilemma.
- 15:21Speaker 8: So my partner and I are looking to buy our
- 15:26Speaker 8: first house. He's just finished his qualifications and we've been
- 15:33Speaker 8: waiting until he finishes. You need to be able to
- 15:37Speaker 8: be in a position to finish saving and go buy
- 15:42Speaker 8: a house. We both live with our parents at the moment,
- 15:47Speaker 8: and we're so excited to get into.
- 15:49Speaker 4: A new house.
- 15:50Speaker 10: But I've gotten to the point where I'm feeling so
- 15:53Speaker 10: burned out of work. I really don't know if this
- 15:58Speaker 10: is the field that I want to any more, and
- 16:01Speaker 10: I'm thinking about retraining into a different career. But then
- 16:07Speaker 10: I'm also thinking, should I just stick with it so
- 16:10Speaker 10: that we can progress and get our house and move forward,
- 16:17Speaker 10: which is what I've been so excited to do and
- 16:20Speaker 10: been waiting for him to do, And it just feels
- 16:22Speaker 10: like such bad timing, and I don't remember to do thanks.
- 16:26Speaker 4: That is rough because I feel like your personal values
- 16:30Speaker 4: and your mental health is currently being overshadowed by your
- 16:35Speaker 4: financial goals, and I just I don't want anyone to
- 16:38Speaker 4: be in that position.
- 16:39Speaker 2: I just want you to have your cake and eat
- 16:40Speaker 2: it too, or do you do yes.
- 16:43Speaker 6: I think it depends on how much of a pay
- 16:47Speaker 6: cut you're going to take to move into this new industry,
- 16:48Speaker 6: because we always say it's never too late. You can
- 16:50Speaker 6: always make a change if you're not enjoying where you are.
- 16:52Speaker 6: I think that's absolutely a great choice. So you have
- 16:55Speaker 6: to consider though, like even if you were to stick
- 16:57Speaker 6: it out, like let's say you spent another year in
- 16:59Speaker 6: the same role, because that pays you really well, and
- 17:01Speaker 6: that will allow you by your first house, and then
- 17:03Speaker 6: once that's done, the plan is to retrain or reskill
- 17:07Speaker 6: for a new field. The assumption, the sense that I'm
- 17:10Speaker 6: getting from what you said is that the new field,
- 17:12Speaker 6: at least for your entry level, probably will be a
- 17:14Speaker 6: lower pay rate. You're still going to have to pay
- 17:16Speaker 6: the same mortgage that you secured when you were on
- 17:18Speaker 6: your higher pay rate, So it may not be worth
- 17:23Speaker 6: sticking it out because you're going to have to learn
- 17:25Speaker 6: to live on that amount of money anyway. Like, yes,
- 17:28Speaker 6: your serviceability is higher because you're earning more money.
- 17:31Speaker 4: And you can get in bigger debt, but when you're
- 17:32Speaker 4: in bigger debt, you got bigger responsibilities.
- 17:35Speaker 6: Correct, So I don't know. You run the numbers there,
- 17:37Speaker 6: always say to see what makes sense for you.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Never numbers I've never heard done in my life.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Play a little and pad because I think that you
- 17:46Speaker 3: might be surprised.
- 17:46Speaker 6: And if that's the case, I would say, well, then
- 17:48Speaker 6: it's probably not worth putting your mental health further at
- 17:51Speaker 6: risk to put yourself in a position where you then
- 17:54Speaker 6: may not even be able to contribute or service the
- 17:56Speaker 6: loan that you were able to secure because you put
- 17:59Speaker 6: yourself through the heartslock.
- 18:00Speaker 3: To get there.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Yeah, totally, Yeah, that is so true.
- 18:03Speaker 5: I would say the same thing. I don't think I'll
- 18:04Speaker 5: ever unless they're like maybe children involved, or like the
- 18:08Speaker 5: risks are really really high. Not to say that the
- 18:11Speaker 5: risks aren't high here, but I'm saying, like it's a
- 18:14Speaker 5: goal that you want to achieve. It's not something that
- 18:17Speaker 5: you're you would lose, Like you're not going to like
- 18:20Speaker 5: completely lose the opportunity to reachchhol like you don't have
- 18:23Speaker 5: to do you don't have to do it, and so
- 18:25Speaker 5: it's like you could do it later, or you could
- 18:27Speaker 5: do it. It could take it a little bit longer
- 18:28Speaker 5: than you expected. But what I'm saying is mental health first,
- 18:31Speaker 5: always end forever, no matter what that looks like. So
- 18:35Speaker 5: I would just say, do what you got to do
- 18:37Speaker 5: and do what makes you happy. If and honestly I
- 18:39Speaker 5: tell people this too, and I know it's not very responsible,
- 18:41Speaker 5: but if right now you went into work, you put
- 18:45Speaker 5: in your resignation and then you started looking for jobs,
- 18:47Speaker 5: whether they were like cafe jobs or whatever, whatever job
- 18:50Speaker 5: you can get just to tire you over, would that
- 18:52Speaker 5: make you feel immediately happier? If so, do it, I
- 18:55Speaker 5: don't care do it, and so put your mental health first.
- 18:58Speaker 2: I like the idea of putting your health first.
- 19:00Speaker 4: I also feel like you feel like there's a lot
- 19:03Speaker 4: of responsibility if I like reverse this role. If my
- 19:06Speaker 4: husband came to me and said I'm so burnt out,
- 19:10Speaker 4: I wouldn't want to be still pushing him to achieve
- 19:13Speaker 4: our financial goals asap. I'd be like, well, can we
- 19:16Speaker 4: change the timeline on this. You're clearly not happy in
- 19:18Speaker 4: your career. You want to change this, and that let's
- 19:21Speaker 4: do it when we have a bit more financial freedom
- 19:23Speaker 4: and like the budget that will allow that, because it's
- 19:25Speaker 4: a different story once quote, life happens, once you have
- 19:28Speaker 4: a mortgage, once you have kids, once you've got more responsibilities,
- 19:31Speaker 4: you don't have the freedom and the flexibility that you
- 19:34Speaker 4: might be afforded right now. And I'm telling you right now,
- 19:37Speaker 4: your money goals mean literally nothing if by the time
- 19:40Speaker 4: you achieve them, you can't enjoy them absolutely, Like is
- 19:44Speaker 4: getting the house then going to be even more of
- 19:46Speaker 4: a stress, because then you're like, I'm really never going
- 19:48Speaker 4: to become a nurse, Like and maybe that's the thing
- 19:50Speaker 4: you really wanted to do, because I can't take a
- 19:52Speaker 4: pay cut and I can't do this, and I can't
- 19:53Speaker 4: do that. Now I feel really restricted, and maybe you'll
- 19:55Speaker 4: become resentful of the goals that you've achieved together. That's
- 19:58Speaker 4: not the life I want you to li if that's
- 20:00Speaker 4: not who I want you to become. So I think
- 20:02Speaker 4: sitting down and talking with your partner about how burnt
- 20:04Speaker 4: out you are is probably the first step, because they
- 20:07Speaker 4: might be really logical about it and they go, oh,
- 20:09Speaker 4: my god, yess, what are we doing trying to buy
- 20:11Speaker 4: a house by the end of the year then, and
- 20:13Speaker 4: that's so silly of us. But also, I don't know
- 20:16Speaker 4: how much you earn, So are there different roles you
- 20:19Speaker 4: could do that are kind of in the middle that
- 20:22Speaker 4: would allow you to study and still earn a similar income,
- 20:25Speaker 4: Like have you done your budget such that you know
- 20:27Speaker 4: what your contributions to the mortgage would be and how
- 20:30Speaker 4: you could still provide during that time, Because maybe the
- 20:34Speaker 4: reason that you are saying I really want to stick
- 20:37Speaker 4: this job out because it's high paying, is.
- 20:38Speaker 2: You want to get the deposit.
- 20:40Speaker 4: But then you're like, oh, but with thee we've already
- 20:42Speaker 4: done all the maths and the repayments my partner could
- 20:45Speaker 4: afford on his salary. Then that's a different story again
- 20:48Speaker 4: than you know, putting your head down for the next
- 20:51Speaker 4: three months and going, yeah, your mental health is really important,
- 20:53Speaker 4: but like, let's get this goal ticked off and then
- 20:55Speaker 4: you can literally quit. I don't know what that looks like. Yeah,
- 21:00Speaker 4: I think you need to look into it a little
- 21:01Speaker 4: bit more. But I feel like that's a really important
- 21:03Speaker 4: one because we should be taking our mental health seriously.
- 21:06Speaker 2: But you're not going to be surprised. Yes, what you
- 21:08Speaker 2: to come back down to communication?
- 21:10Speaker 3: Exactly?
- 21:10Speaker 4: Crazy crazy, But that's literally like talk with your partner,
- 21:14Speaker 4: because as much as asking us is very hopefully helpful,
- 21:17Speaker 4: I need you to work out what that actually logically
- 21:19Speaker 4: means and pragmatically means it means for your budget.
- 21:22Speaker 6: Yeah, and I hope you feel better soon. I'm sorry
- 21:23Speaker 6: that you're feeling burnt out. That's a really hard place
- 21:25Speaker 6: to find yourself.
- 21:26Speaker 4: Yeah, so we're sending lots of love and maybe maybe
- 21:29Speaker 4: check your and you'll leave and see if you could
- 21:31Speaker 4: take a mini break, oh instead of just like quitting
- 21:33Speaker 4: your job and changing Yeah, or sickly, there's mental health
- 21:36Speaker 4: leaf for thousand percent. It's still valid, still valid. Go
- 21:39Speaker 4: to the doctor, say I need mental health leaf. Can
- 21:41Speaker 4: you give me a six certificate? They will, Yeah, promise
- 21:43Speaker 4: make you for many days as well.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 21:45Speaker 4: All right, do you want to slide into my dams
- 21:47Speaker 4: and see what people have been messaging me this week.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Oh, I'd love to do.
- 21:50Speaker 4: All right, So I got this one and I've picked
- 21:52Speaker 4: it out to go on the show because I'm like.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Oh, spicy, Hi. I have a little bit of a
- 21:56Speaker 2: life dilemma.
- 21:57Speaker 4: My workplace is toxic and I plan on leaving next
- 22:00Speaker 4: year after our busy period to move in with my
- 22:02Speaker 4: long distance boyfriend. You should I tell my toxic boss
- 22:07Speaker 4: now or do I only give the required one month notice.
- 22:10Speaker 4: I'm worried if I start applying for jobs they'll find
- 22:12Speaker 4: out because it's a pretty small industry. But I'm also
- 22:16Speaker 4: worried that they will take my extended notice pretty badly
- 22:19Speaker 4: as this is my full time job in my career
- 22:21Speaker 4: post UNI. I would love to use them as a reference,
- 22:24Speaker 4: but obviously can't until I tell them. Honestly, if I
- 22:28Speaker 4: could leave tomorrow, I would, but I don't want to
- 22:30Speaker 4: let my team down as we are entering the busiest
- 22:33Speaker 4: time of the year. I'm talking heaps of unpaid overtime
- 22:36Speaker 4: at the moment. I'd love to know what you guys think.
- 22:40Speaker 2: What do you do back? I think I guess Yeah.
- 22:42Speaker 5: The tricky thing is because it's quite like a small
- 22:44Speaker 5: industry and like they might find out that is a
- 22:46Speaker 5: bit shit. I remember one time I applied for a
- 22:48Speaker 5: job and I hadn't even got the interview. They haven't
- 22:50Speaker 5: even called me yet, but they had called my boss
- 22:53Speaker 5: at the time for a reference.
- 22:55Speaker 2: And they asked me.
- 22:56Speaker 5: I know, and I'm sure it is so disrespect It
- 23:00Speaker 5: was so like I didn't even know who called her.
- 23:02Speaker 4: I was just I was.
- 23:03Speaker 5: And I was so scared of her too. She was
- 23:05Speaker 5: a very scary boss.
- 23:06Speaker 2: But I just remember be like so inappropriate. It was crazy.
- 23:09Speaker 5: So it's like I can totally understand the anxiety about
- 23:11Speaker 5: like not wanting to like.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Apply it as an employer. I would never I know.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Oh my god, that's made me so angry on your behalf.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Oh god, thank you, thank you.
- 23:21Speaker 7: Okay, I've the.
- 23:22Speaker 4: People apply for jobs that she's on the money that
- 23:24Speaker 4: I know through either Other Than the Money podcasts or
- 23:27Speaker 4: our community or other financial advice businesses, and like I know,
- 23:32Speaker 4: and then I feel slightly awkward because I know their boss.
- 23:35Speaker 4: But I'd never tell their boss unless I was planning
- 23:37Speaker 4: on offering them a role, at which point I'd be like, Jess,
- 23:39Speaker 4: I'm thinking of offering your role. Can I call up
- 23:41Speaker 4: my mate X y Z and have a chat about you.
- 23:44Speaker 4: I would get your consent and you might go, oh,
- 23:48Speaker 4: they probably not yet, because I'd love to tell him
- 23:50Speaker 4: that I'm planning on leaving first or whatever, like that's
- 23:54Speaker 4: not my place.
- 23:55Speaker 5: Yeah, oh my god, that's so true. Okay, So I
- 23:57Speaker 5: can understand the anxiety around that. I think I would
- 24:01Speaker 5: because maybe they ask your references later, or maybe it's
- 24:04Speaker 5: on your resume or something. But I would not be
- 24:06Speaker 5: using the most toxic people in the workplace. And I
- 24:09Speaker 5: know that like people like to call the boss or
- 24:12Speaker 5: like to call the people that are managing you, but
- 24:14Speaker 5: I would try, and like I sometimes use personal references
- 24:18Speaker 5: even if they're colleagues that I work alongside, because personally
- 24:21Speaker 5: I would I would take the advice from someone who
- 24:24Speaker 5: is working with you every single day, where they're not
- 24:27Speaker 5: necessarily managing you, but they know you better than your
- 24:30Speaker 5: boss does, who sees you probably once a month for
- 24:33Speaker 5: a whip you know, in a meeting and doesn't know
- 24:36Speaker 5: your personality, doesn't know anything about you, doesn't know what
- 24:39Speaker 5: you do day to day. I would much more likely
- 24:41Speaker 5: take the advice of someone who works with you so
- 24:43Speaker 5: and not that that's the case for everyone, but I
- 24:45Speaker 5: would be trying to like find people in the office
- 24:47Speaker 5: by people you work with that you trust. That maybe
- 24:50Speaker 5: one is a personal reference, someone you work with, and
- 24:52Speaker 5: maybe someone's a little bit higher up. They might not
- 24:55Speaker 5: even necessarily need to be directly above you or directly
- 24:57Speaker 5: managing you, but just some people that you have as allies,
- 25:01Speaker 5: as people who will advocate for you. And then I
- 25:03Speaker 5: would probably I'll tell your workplace when it's time to
- 25:07Speaker 5: start looking, when you're starting to get stressed about needing
- 25:10Speaker 5: to find a job. That's the point where I would
- 25:12Speaker 5: tell them. But I would find some allies first, ahead
- 25:15Speaker 5: of the curb, and not put your boss, your toxic
- 25:18Speaker 5: boss down as a reference.
- 25:22Speaker 2: What are you doing?
- 25:22Speaker 6: Yeah, I agree, I think that reminder. Your reference doesn't
- 25:25Speaker 6: have to be your direct manager. It could be someone
- 25:28Speaker 6: higher than them. It could be someone that you've worked
- 25:29Speaker 6: with on a project. It could be you know you
- 25:31Speaker 6: can you get to pick and choose your references. It
- 25:33Speaker 6: could be whatever you want them to be. Also, you
- 25:35Speaker 6: don't have to list your references on your CV. So
- 25:37Speaker 6: my CV it says reference available upon request, and that
- 25:40Speaker 6: is that's a two thousand percent what I would recommend
- 25:42Speaker 6: to everybody. It means that you avoid that situation of
- 25:45Speaker 6: someone being called without your knowledge.
- 25:48Speaker 4: Also, sorry, I would absolutely be a reference if you
- 25:51Speaker 4: turned around and said I would like to move on
- 25:53Speaker 4: from She's on the money.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Fantastic.
- 25:54Speaker 4: But would it be okay if you don't put my
- 25:56Speaker 4: name and my personal number and all my information you
- 26:00Speaker 4: may that you may be going to spam across the internet.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Would that be okay?
- 26:03Speaker 4: Happy to be your reference if they ask you for
- 26:05Speaker 4: a reference, But like, I don't particularly want my mobile
- 26:08Speaker 4: number being just sent to random hiring managers.
- 26:10Speaker 2: No, that's weird.
- 26:11Speaker 6: Yeah, I think how soon you tell them comes down
- 26:14Speaker 6: to where the person you have to tell your manager
- 26:17Speaker 6: or HR whoever it is, where they sit in the
- 26:20Speaker 6: scheme of the toxicity. Because in your message, you've told
- 26:23Speaker 6: us that you're doing a lot of overtime and those
- 26:25Speaker 6: sorts of things, which may mean that maybe you have
- 26:27Speaker 6: a good relationship with your manager. Yeah, in which case
- 26:30Speaker 6: I'm of the opinion I think you're doing a great
- 26:32Speaker 6: thing by working through the busy period.
- 26:33Speaker 3: That's very considerate. Where you can give advanced notice.
- 26:38Speaker 6: I think it is really helpful because obviously allows your
- 26:41Speaker 6: team your managers whoever are to prepare at the same time.
- 26:45Speaker 3: I know that we've said before you don't owe anybody anything.
- 26:47Speaker 6: You only are required to give your minimum notice period
- 26:50Speaker 6: as outlined in you know, whatever your contract is or
- 26:53Speaker 6: your eeda or whatever that looks like for you. If
- 26:56Speaker 6: you have a good relationship and you want to look
- 26:58Speaker 6: after them, which I kind of get the sense that
- 26:59Speaker 6: you do because you're working through the busy period, I'd
- 27:01Speaker 6: say it's probably better to say student than later if
- 27:04Speaker 6: you don't think that that's going to bite you in
- 27:06Speaker 6: the ass. So like, if you're going to give them
- 27:07Speaker 6: advance notice and you go, oh, the people in my
- 27:08Speaker 6: team are going to make my life hell because they
- 27:11Speaker 6: are like, well, you're leaving and we don't like you, Me, me,
- 27:13Speaker 6: and MEM, then keep it to your test until you
- 27:16Speaker 6: have to tell them. It's really hard to say without
- 27:18Speaker 6: knowing exactly what your relationships are like within that environment.
- 27:22Speaker 6: And ultimately, I just want you to feel protected and
- 27:24Speaker 6: safe and looked after. And the last thing I would
- 27:27Speaker 6: say is that leaving a workplace doesn't have to be
- 27:30Speaker 6: a negative thing like what you were saying. I would
- 27:33Speaker 6: hope that you can hand in your resignation and say
- 27:36Speaker 6: I want to move on to something different, I want
- 27:38Speaker 6: to try something new, whatever it is that you want
- 27:40Speaker 6: to say, and the people around you will go, oh,
- 27:42Speaker 6: my goodness, thank you for everything that you've done for us, Like,
- 27:45Speaker 6: I'm so excited for your next step. Yeah, Like I
- 27:47Speaker 6: know that that's always the case. That's very much a
- 27:49Speaker 6: dream world and everyone's that lucky. But hopefully that can
- 27:53Speaker 6: be the outcome for you.
- 27:54Speaker 4: Yeah, and I've got my fingers crossed that that could
- 27:56Speaker 4: be it. But we know that's not the reality. I mean,
- 27:59Speaker 4: in our business. I hope that's the experience everyone who
- 28:02Speaker 4: has quit has had because I'm just grateful, Like I'm
- 28:06Speaker 4: just grateful that you've been here and that you invested
- 28:09Speaker 4: into my business and your time and your energy. And
- 28:12Speaker 4: on the flip side, I'm also acutely aware I'm maybe
- 28:14Speaker 4: in a different position, but I'm a small business. I
- 28:18Speaker 4: know that caps exist inside my business in terms of
- 28:21Speaker 4: professional development, in terms of being able to carve out
- 28:25Speaker 4: your dream roles.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Like, don't get me wrong, I.
- 28:27Speaker 4: Try so hard to push as much as possible, but
- 28:30Speaker 4: there's going to be a cap, Like I'm not a
- 28:32Speaker 4: fifty person organization where I can be like, oh, yeah, Jess,
- 28:36Speaker 4: one day you'll be a massive manager and have ten
- 28:38Speaker 4: people under you. She turned around and said that was
- 28:40Speaker 4: one of her goals. I'd be like, I love that
- 28:42Speaker 4: you want to do that. I don't even have ten employees, and.
- 28:45Speaker 2: She's on the money. You know people, Yeah, like, where
- 28:48Speaker 2: are the people?
- 28:49Speaker 4: I don't know who you're managing, but like, I would
- 28:52Speaker 4: love to have everybody be able to have those open
- 28:55Speaker 4: conversations with their team. But I also have seen too
- 28:58Speaker 4: many toxic things happen, and so my advice would be
- 29:01Speaker 4: holding your cards close to your chest. I know you're
- 29:04Speaker 4: moving in and you'd love to move in with your
- 29:06Speaker 4: long distance boyfriend. Let's pretend it's six months from now.
- 29:09Speaker 4: I can't tell you what's going to happen in six months.
- 29:11Speaker 4: I don't think that your boss needs six months of
- 29:15Speaker 4: heads up for that. You're probably you know, looking for
- 29:17Speaker 4: jobs and whatnot, and that's fantastic. But I would think
- 29:19Speaker 4: if you were able to give them a little bit
- 29:21Speaker 4: more notice than the month, fantastic. Maybe you could give
- 29:24Speaker 4: them six weeks and be like, hey, I'm going to
- 29:26Speaker 4: give you six weeks notice. If they're not very kind people,
- 29:29Speaker 4: they might be really rude and walk you on the
- 29:31Speaker 4: day that you resign, they still have to pay you that.
- 29:34Speaker 2: If they do that, they do have to pay you back.
- 29:35Speaker 4: They might not want you there and might go, oh,
- 29:37Speaker 4: thanks for the six weeks notice, Jess. Actually we're just
- 29:40Speaker 4: going to fall back on that four and only pay
- 29:42Speaker 4: you for four in lieu of notice, and then you're
- 29:45Speaker 4: worse off again. So I think it's also in delivery.
- 29:48Speaker 4: So it's not about the fact that you're quitting. I
- 29:51Speaker 4: think it's about what you do in those four weeks
- 29:54Speaker 4: after you have quit. Are you supporting the team still
- 29:59Speaker 4: or are you completely mentally checked out? Are you sitting
- 30:01Speaker 4: down and going all right, well, Jess, I'm leaving. How
- 30:04Speaker 4: can I best support you? Here's my hand overleased, here's
- 30:07Speaker 4: all of the contacts. I am setting you up for
- 30:09Speaker 4: the greatest amount of success so that my absence isn't
- 30:14Speaker 4: detrimental to the business. You're asking your boss what you
- 30:17Speaker 4: can do, how you can support you during that period.
- 30:19Speaker 4: I think is the most constructive thing that you can do,
- 30:22Speaker 4: and that's what's going to lead to a good reference.
- 30:24Speaker 4: But as someone who also hires people, I have never
- 30:28Speaker 4: asked for nor would I ever expect a reference from
- 30:30Speaker 4: your current organization.
- 30:32Speaker 5: Iigue, yeah, never like I would.
- 30:35Speaker 4: I'd love the pervy deeds, but like, sorry, I'm assuming
- 30:37Speaker 4: your boss doesn't know that you're leaving. Yeah, and there's
- 30:41Speaker 4: probably a good reason as to why you're leaving. And
- 30:43Speaker 4: in your interview, I'm going to be asking I'm going
- 30:46Speaker 4: to be like, hey, so what's making you want to
- 30:47Speaker 4: move on from this business? And I can get a
- 30:49Speaker 4: gauge and like that's another like maybe we need to
- 30:53Speaker 4: do more career podcasts or something on how to interview
- 30:55Speaker 4: what that looks like. We've done some before, But I
- 30:57Speaker 4: just I think that there's so many questions around this
- 31:00Speaker 4: at the moment that I just go for me, it's
- 31:02Speaker 4: not that you're quitting, it's how you handle yourself after
- 31:05Speaker 4: you quit, and quitting in a really respectful way and
- 31:07Speaker 4: not going hey, don't get me wrong, they're toxic, but
- 31:10Speaker 4: not going hey, I'm so glad I get to hand
- 31:12Speaker 4: you this letter your toxic af Yeah, but just going hey,
- 31:16Speaker 4: like another opportunity has come up. You also have to
- 31:18Speaker 4: think about and this is awful, but you have to
- 31:20Speaker 4: think about whether you want to share with them why
- 31:22Speaker 4: you're quitting, Like, are you just going, Hey, I feel
- 31:26Speaker 4: like I've served my time here and I've gotten so
- 31:29Speaker 4: much out of it, Thank you so much. And I've
- 31:30Speaker 4: been presented with another opportunity or are you sharing with them, Hey,
- 31:33Speaker 4: I want to move in with my long distance boyfriend.
- 31:35Speaker 4: And then they're talking smack behind closed doors about oh
- 31:38Speaker 4: my god, can you believe that Jess is quitting this job,
- 31:41Speaker 4: which we think is incredible for a boy like I
- 31:44Speaker 4: don't know them.
- 31:45Speaker 2: I'm just always a bit more conservative.
- 31:47Speaker 4: But it's always about approaching literally everything you do with
- 31:50Speaker 4: the utmost respect and leaving it better than it was
- 31:53Speaker 4: when you entered. And if you do that, I can't
- 31:56Speaker 4: see why you wouldn't get a good reference.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 31:58Speaker 3: So what did everyone else say?
- 32:00Speaker 4: Oh my god, they had so much tea. So first
- 32:01Speaker 4: things first, I asked them some questions. First question, what
- 32:04Speaker 4: will you do if you were our community member? Forty
- 32:07Speaker 4: two percent said just give the required notice, thirty five
- 32:10Speaker 4: percent said I'd lock in a new job and then
- 32:12Speaker 4: I would quit, fourteen percent said do not wait until
- 32:15Speaker 4: the busy season is over to leave, and eight percent
- 32:18Speaker 4: said I'd give more than a month's notice. Then I asked,
- 32:22Speaker 4: how would you balance leaving a job and getting a reference.
- 32:25Speaker 4: Sixty one percent said find a trusted reference alternative, sixteen
- 32:30Speaker 4: percent said be honest with your plans early, fourteen percent
- 32:34Speaker 4: said give one month and just hope for the best,
- 32:36Speaker 4: and eight percent said leave them off your reference list.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Yeah, which I think is fair.
- 32:40Speaker 4: All right, So then I said, what's your two cents?
- 32:43Speaker 4: First person said, don't shoot yourself in the foot by
- 32:45Speaker 4: being a nice person for a toxic workplace.
- 32:48Speaker 3: I mean, that is also so true.
- 32:49Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 32:50Speaker 4: Another person said new employers always understand that you can't
- 32:53Speaker 4: use the current employer as a reference.
- 32:55Speaker 3: Yes.
- 32:56Speaker 4: Next person said, I tried to give one month's notice
- 32:58Speaker 4: and I had two weeks required and they just let
- 33:00Speaker 4: me go after three days. If they paid you out
- 33:02Speaker 4: your non sperio, they absolutely should have paid you out
- 33:04Speaker 4: your notice period. They required to, so if they didn't
- 33:06Speaker 4: hit them up one hundred percent. But it's also in
- 33:09Speaker 4: some instances. So I used to work in consulting and
- 33:13Speaker 4: on the day that I resigned from that job, they
- 33:17Speaker 4: told me not to come back. And it wasn't because
- 33:19Speaker 4: I had a bad experience or everything was negative. I
- 33:22Speaker 4: really liked that team, and I was aware that was
- 33:25Speaker 4: probably what's going to happen, because that had happened to
- 33:27Speaker 4: everybody else in the business. But it was because I
- 33:30Speaker 4: was going to have direct communication with clients and still
- 33:34Speaker 4: be working on highly confidential stuff and like perpetuating projects
- 33:38Speaker 4: that essentially would need me if I kept working on them.
- 33:42Speaker 4: And they were just like, that's great, the like we're
- 33:44Speaker 4: obviously going to pay you out you're notice but like
- 33:47Speaker 4: you're basically on gardening leaf, like go home at the
- 33:50Speaker 4: end of today, and that's it. Like you know, we'll
- 33:52Speaker 4: call or text you over the next two weeks because
- 33:54Speaker 4: as much as like you're on leave and you're being quote,
- 33:56Speaker 4: let go to DIAU, Like if we've got any questions
- 33:58Speaker 4: over the next two weeks, were well within our rights
- 34:00Speaker 4: to call you because you're technically still being paid and
- 34:02Speaker 4: will ask any of those questions. But you are going
- 34:04Speaker 4: to leave your laptop, your keys, you'll like swipe past
- 34:06Speaker 4: everything at the end of today.
- 34:08Speaker 2: And that's just how we roll.
- 34:10Speaker 4: And it wasn't me being walked because I was in trouble,
- 34:14Speaker 4: but that was definitely the culture and I knew to
- 34:17Speaker 4: anticipate that. But that's something you've got to expect. Like
- 34:20Speaker 4: sometimes also not in that circumstance. But ego comes into it.
- 34:25Speaker 4: People don't like being quote rejected, and just because they're
- 34:28Speaker 4: a manager doesn't make them mature, so they might go, oh,
- 34:32Speaker 4: Jess quick, get her out, get her out, just tell
- 34:34Speaker 4: her to leave now. I don't even want to see
- 34:35Speaker 4: her face in the office.
- 34:36Speaker 2: People are like that. They are horrific. That is crazy.
- 34:40Speaker 4: Next person said, you sound like a team player. Surely
- 34:42Speaker 4: there's someone, even if it's not your boss.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Who will be a reference. Just like the exit, it's
- 34:47Speaker 2: so true. I'll just do one last one because I
- 34:48Speaker 2: think it hits the nail on the head.
- 34:50Speaker 4: Someone said, as someone that works in HR, right, now
- 34:54Speaker 4: get the job and then resign only once you have
- 34:57Speaker 4: and have signed the new contract.
- 34:59Speaker 3: Oh I completely I agree with that.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely exactly. So we'll leave it there.
- 35:04Speaker 4: But my friends, I feel like that was a fun conversation. Yeah,
- 35:08Speaker 4: getting really heated in the last few weeks about like
- 35:10Speaker 4: my responses. I'll try to calm it down, but like, no,
- 35:13Speaker 4: you girls got an opinion. But I'll see you bright
- 35:15Speaker 4: early on Monday morning for a money diary. But till then,
- 35:18Speaker 4: have the best weekend by.
- 35:19Speaker 2: Guys by.
