- 1:13Speaker 4: sharing some broque tips. We'll also be helping to answer
- 1:16Speaker 4: juicy money dilemma, which this week is all about keeping
- 1:19Speaker 4: your budget in line or getting bargains at the end
- 1:22Speaker 4: of financial sales, and we unpack something that you slid
- 1:25Speaker 4: into our DMS, about which this week is all about
- 1:27Speaker 4: resetting your headspace after a toxic workplace.
- 1:30Speaker 5: So Jessica, Ricky, how are you?
- 1:31Speaker 6: I'm good?
- 1:32Speaker 5: How are you good?
- 1:35Speaker 6: We have doubled the team this week, so it's not
- 1:38Speaker 6: just the two of us, We've got four because you
- 1:40Speaker 6: guys loved when we had Salina the Two Broke Chicks
- 1:44Speaker 6: a couple of weeks ago and they were down in
- 1:46Speaker 6: Melbourne and we were like, besties, please let us squeeze
- 1:49Speaker 6: you in person, so welcome. Of course the Twin Flames
- 1:53Speaker 6: Sally McMullan and Alex Herrigan aka the Two Bow.
- 1:56Speaker 7: Chicks as back Caddle in person.
- 2:02Speaker 6: We were so stoic that you can find to see
- 2:04Speaker 6: what you guys were down and you're obviously about talking
- 2:07Speaker 6: about your new book, which is so exciting. Congratulations on
- 2:10Speaker 6: the launch.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Thank you so much.
- 2:12Speaker 8: Writing Finding your people has definitely been like the highlight
- 2:15Speaker 8: of our career. So it's just been crazy every time
- 2:17Speaker 8: we passed the books, like, let's get.
- 2:19Speaker 9: Yeah, the novelty has not run off yet.
- 2:23Speaker 6: Have you started walking around with a sharpie so you
- 2:25Speaker 6: can just like pop in and sign one every now and.
- 2:27Speaker 10: Again, like hey, and be like like it needs to
- 2:37Speaker 10: be something all day, like that.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Chick from Harry Potter.
- 2:39Speaker 5: Yeah, just like in a bookstore in what are those
- 2:43Speaker 5: ones called.
- 2:44Speaker 4: The d.
- 2:47Speaker 9: Get three times?
- 2:51Speaker 5: Can you stop writing on my book please?
- 2:53Speaker 7: Yeah, we can have like Britta memoir that's not yours.
- 2:58Speaker 9: Well, she's out of stake in this. This is important
- 3:01Speaker 9: to me as well.
- 3:03Speaker 5: She's my people. Exactly.
- 3:07Speaker 9: How's your week been?
- 3:07Speaker 6: Apart from just absolutely chaos with all the book stuff.
- 3:10Speaker 2: It's been really good.
- 3:11Speaker 8: We went out on the weekend and then basically wrote
- 3:14Speaker 8: ourselves off after that and that was like, let's go
- 3:16Speaker 8: celebrate that. I was like, I'm dead for this, but
- 3:21Speaker 8: it was really nice, and like Melbourne's so beautiful, Like, yeah,
- 3:23Speaker 8: definitely the prettiest city.
- 3:25Speaker 2: I'm probably gonna get rid for that.
- 3:27Speaker 8: I think, So your CBD is definitely prettier than.
- 3:32Speaker 6: We're biased, But I think Melbourne's the best city in
- 3:34Speaker 6: the world. And I mean that least agreed like six
- 3:36Speaker 6: years in a row, so exactly exactly, little city.
- 3:40Speaker 5: How we're humble.
- 3:42Speaker 6: Absolutely, it's not humble.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Oh yeah, my week has been a series of unfortunate events,
- 3:52Speaker 4: but it's also been like really good in a funny way,
- 3:56Speaker 4: like my car was broken into and my partner's laptop
- 3:58Speaker 4: was stolen, just like a few and so it's just
- 4:01Speaker 4: been like a hectic few days, just like trying to
- 4:04Speaker 4: suss out without like it's kind of like it's good.
- 4:07Speaker 4: The silver lining is that I'm getting work. I'm getting
- 4:10Speaker 4: freelance work, which means that I need a laptop, which
- 4:12Speaker 4: also means that I must find a laptop. But it's
- 4:16Speaker 4: all sorted. It always works itself out in a way,
- 4:19Speaker 4: doesn't it. I guess my only the only uncomfortable thing
- 4:21Speaker 4: in the pit of my stomach is that, like, there
- 4:23Speaker 4: are people out there that have my girlfriend's laptop and
- 4:27Speaker 4: no one's doing anything about it. They're just like getting
- 4:29Speaker 4: away with it. Yeah, I get like they have justice.
- 4:32Speaker 4: There's a justice.
- 4:33Speaker 2: This is your vigilante. Error become a vigilante after this,
- 4:39Speaker 2: I know.
- 4:39Speaker 4: I literally went to the place because you know, you
- 4:41Speaker 4: can track it with your friend, and so I went
- 4:42Speaker 4: to the place.
- 4:43Speaker 5: I went to the address. It was a car wash.
- 4:44Speaker 4: So I was like, Okay, I can't do much here,
- 4:46Speaker 4: but it's basically I think we do need to take
- 4:49Speaker 4: the work. It Still it's not trackable anymore, but it
- 4:53Speaker 4: was on for that day like watching it, like and
- 4:56Speaker 4: I was like, someone do something.
- 4:58Speaker 8: My brother did that and he showed up to the
- 5:00Speaker 8: person's house and he was like cause it was some
- 5:03Speaker 8: little sixteen year old yeah phone, and he was like,
- 5:06Speaker 8: you've got my phone. And my boyfriend's brother was like
- 5:08Speaker 8: six foot five and he was like, you got my phone.
- 5:10Speaker 8: He was like no, no, no, and he was like,
- 5:13Speaker 8: my phone is here, just go get it. And then
- 5:15Speaker 8: this angel like went up the day has got it
- 5:17Speaker 8: and I had to give it back and I was like
- 5:19Speaker 8: I'm embarrassing.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Yeah, oh my god.
- 5:21Speaker 9: It was so funny.
- 5:22Speaker 8: But yeah, my mum also did it. She like went
- 5:24Speaker 8: and got her like Apple Watch, it's the best feature.
- 5:26Speaker 8: If you don't have to find my phone on you
- 5:28Speaker 8: need to.
- 5:29Speaker 5: Yeah, totally.
- 5:30Speaker 6: People listened to the show, not that I did that
- 5:32Speaker 6: with an uber, Like I left my phone in the
- 5:34Speaker 6: uber and they tried to say that they didn't have it,
- 5:36Speaker 6: and so I drove. I tracked it, drove like all
- 5:39Speaker 6: over the place to find this thing. Knocked on this
- 5:41Speaker 6: guy's window he was about to pull out of a
- 5:43Speaker 6: KFC and I blocked him in with and like knocked
- 5:47Speaker 6: on the window and he rolled and he was so
- 5:49Speaker 6: confused he did not recognize me. I was like, Hi, like,
- 5:51Speaker 6: I'm the person who spoke to yesterday. You said you
- 5:52Speaker 6: were going to bring my phone back. You never did
- 5:53Speaker 6: and he was like, oh, the phone, the phone. I
- 5:55Speaker 6: was like, I know that you have my phone in there,
- 5:58Speaker 6: and he literally just was like okay, and like you
- 6:02Speaker 6: just did not know what to do, which, in hindsight
- 6:04Speaker 6: so dangerous.
- 6:05Speaker 9: But I felt like I got it.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Did you go by yourself?
- 6:10Speaker 9: I did?
- 6:11Speaker 7: I done that.
- 6:13Speaker 4: I was at least I felt safe in a public
- 6:15Speaker 4: k I have never felt safe for anywhere in the
- 6:21Speaker 4: world than in a KFC parking lot.
- 6:25Speaker 5: Face, I'm so proud of you. That's bad us.
- 6:28Speaker 9: But if I had a car wash, there would have been
- 6:29Speaker 9: in a car.
- 6:30Speaker 6: So you should get the car wash camera footage because
- 6:32Speaker 6: maybe you'll be able to identify the current.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Take it to the vigilante.
- 6:37Speaker 6: That's a great idea if anyone needs something sorted. I
- 6:39Speaker 6: feel like everyone at this table are just the people
- 6:41Speaker 6: to make it.
- 6:43Speaker 5: A Yes, totally, But enough about me. How was your week?
- 6:47Speaker 9: It was good.
- 6:48Speaker 6: I chipped something off my bucket list this week. I
- 6:51Speaker 6: went to Laru, which was incredible. We roset amazing experience.
- 6:55Speaker 6: I was so lucky. Version of just launched flats and
- 6:58Speaker 6: I got invited to go to celebrate, and it was
- 7:02Speaker 6: just I'm not a super spiritual person, it's not really
- 7:05Speaker 6: who I am, but there was some kind of energy
- 7:09Speaker 6: there that just was unlike anything I've ever experienced before.
- 7:13Speaker 6: It was incredible, and it's something I wanted to do
- 7:16Speaker 6: since I was a kid and had just never had
- 7:17Speaker 6: the opportunity to. So I had the best week ever
- 7:21Speaker 6: because I you know, when you do something you've always
- 7:23Speaker 6: wanted to, you just go, oh my god, this is
- 7:25Speaker 6: what life is for You feel like spec on a
- 7:29Speaker 6: rug living my life because you stand next toy and
- 7:33Speaker 6: it's so it's bigger than the Eiffel Tower, or taller
- 7:36Speaker 6: than the Eiffel Tower. The amount of things that I
- 7:39Speaker 6: learned that I didn't know was crazy. I had a
- 7:41Speaker 6: little of an existential like out of forty moment where
- 7:44Speaker 6: I was like, I am just in a meeba on
- 7:46Speaker 6: the life. That was good to have Kitty grounded.
- 7:51Speaker 2: I love when you have this beck on the Rock week,
- 7:53Speaker 2: when it's always.
- 7:54Speaker 8: At the time when like I'm supposed to be happy
- 7:56Speaker 8: with my period, it's like the week after and I'm like, ah.
- 8:00Speaker 2: We're just on the big floating rock.
- 8:02Speaker 8: And then like two weeks are like everything zags the whole.
- 8:08Speaker 6: Yes, yes, anyone who following me on Instagram got absolutely
- 8:11Speaker 6: spammed this week, and I'm really sorry, but also I'm
- 8:13Speaker 6: not so.
- 8:16Speaker 9: Through you.
- 8:17Speaker 6: But I do have some excellent money wins to share
- 8:20Speaker 6: with everybody, because I obviously was still kicking around in
- 8:23Speaker 6: the group despite being away. Please let me share with
- 8:26Speaker 6: you guys what I pulled out. So firstly, I'm going
- 8:28Speaker 6: to start with a loss, but it's in my mind
- 8:31Speaker 6: still a win from Rochelle. She said, I used my
- 8:34Speaker 6: emergency account for the first time ever. I had set
- 8:37Speaker 6: it up at the start of the year, and I
- 8:38Speaker 6: had slowly accumulated money. I just went to the dentist
- 8:41Speaker 6: after a little scare, and I was proud to note
- 8:44Speaker 6: that I didn't have to scramble for money when I
- 8:46Speaker 6: was told the cost. I also have no guilt because
- 8:49Speaker 6: that's what the money is for.
- 8:51Speaker 9: What a good feeling.
- 8:52Speaker 2: I wouldn't say that's a loss at all.
- 8:54Speaker 6: It's a win because you were prepared, well done, Rochelle.
- 8:57Speaker 6: It's such a good feeling.
- 8:58Speaker 2: And you went to the dentist.
- 8:59Speaker 6: That's how enough of conversation in our workplace because two
- 9:04Speaker 6: of us are people who have been very, very scared
- 9:06Speaker 6: that in just for a long time and left it
- 9:09Speaker 6: kind of an arguably disgusting amount of it. And it's
- 9:13Speaker 6: like one of those things where it's like you go
- 9:14Speaker 6: and you get there and you get it done, and
- 9:15Speaker 6: if you find a good dentist, you're, oh, it's actually
- 9:17Speaker 6: not that bad. But it's the mental hurdle, Isn't.
- 9:20Speaker 5: It very expensive?
- 9:22Speaker 8: There's actually a place called I don't know if it's
- 9:25Speaker 8: there's some in New South Wales. I'm sure there should
- 9:28Speaker 8: be some in melbournecause I think there's some in Brisbane.
- 9:30Speaker 8: But it's called Dentist or Dental ninety nine and it's
- 9:33Speaker 8: like a ninety nine dollars dentist.
- 9:34Speaker 2: So for like a check up and clean it costs
- 9:37Speaker 2: maybe they should be a money whin.
- 9:39Speaker 8: It's like ninety nine dollars and then for like a
- 9:42Speaker 8: lot of their other treatments, it is quite on the
- 9:45Speaker 8: audordable side of the spectrum.
- 9:47Speaker 9: That's awesome.
- 9:48Speaker 8: Their prices may have gone up a little bit inflation vibes. Yeah,
- 9:55Speaker 8: but like I went and I think I had to
- 9:56Speaker 8: have a check up, and I had to have like
- 9:58Speaker 8: one feeling because I left it a discuss team out. Yeah,
- 10:01Speaker 8: and yeah, I think it was like two hundred bucks,
- 10:03Speaker 8: which I was like, that's awesome.
- 10:04Speaker 2: It was like a bit of a relief.
- 10:05Speaker 6: Yeah, hopefully that's the money win for somebody. Yeah, that's incredible. Next,
- 10:10Speaker 6: I've got one from Courtney, who said she had five
- 10:13Speaker 6: thousand dollars of fines wiped after applying through the special
- 10:18Speaker 6: Circumstances route. She said there was a lot of mucking around,
- 10:21Speaker 6: but after four very long months she heard back that
- 10:24Speaker 6: the entire debt had been cleared.
- 10:26Speaker 9: Sick, and she said she's so happy.
- 10:28Speaker 6: She advocated herself that one's for you, and you're ten
- 10:31Speaker 6: thousand of parking. Fine, I know I'm.
- 10:33Speaker 5: Thinking about that as you're saying that, But I like
- 10:34Speaker 5: to try once.
- 10:35Speaker 4: We would just try again, they said, So we can't
- 10:37Speaker 4: wipe it, but there's like nine thousand dollars worth of
- 10:39Speaker 4: finds it.
- 10:39Speaker 5: But I just like, am I just try?
- 10:41Speaker 2: Where are we parking?
- 10:43Speaker 5: Got anywhere.
- 10:46Speaker 8: Anywhere?
- 10:47Speaker 5: All the time?
- 10:47Speaker 4: Yeah, basically, so you never know if you don't give
- 10:51Speaker 4: it a go. Exactly took her ages, but it worked out.
- 10:54Speaker 4: That's awesome, Courtney.
- 10:56Speaker 6: Next, I've got a win from Sarah, who said she
- 10:57Speaker 6: thought her husband needed brand new headphone, but instead he
- 11:01Speaker 6: just needed new headphone covers. She saved herself around two
- 11:04Speaker 6: hundred and thirty dollars just by buying like a couple
- 11:06Speaker 6: of little foamy things for his birthday.
- 11:08Speaker 5: Oh nice.
- 11:09Speaker 6: You can also wash them a lot of the time,
- 11:10Speaker 6: depending what they are like. I've seen people talking about
- 11:13Speaker 6: the AirPod maxes and how they get growth. You can
- 11:16Speaker 6: wash those, but yeah, apparently eBay, you can grab yourself
- 11:19Speaker 6: some new little foami inserts and turn your crusty, dusty
- 11:23Speaker 6: old one who how good into something.
- 11:25Speaker 9: A little fresher.
- 11:26Speaker 6: And then, lastly, for this week, I've got a money
- 11:28Speaker 6: win from Hayley, who said she was comparing travel insurances
- 11:32Speaker 6: and she read the pds and realized that one company
- 11:34Speaker 6: had a much higher limit for phones than the other
- 11:38Speaker 6: company that she was looking into. She said the lower
- 11:41Speaker 6: one was only one thousand dollars, which doesn't even cover
- 11:43Speaker 6: the cost of an iPhone these days. So she rang
- 11:45Speaker 6: the insurance which had a much higher level of cover
- 11:49Speaker 6: and asked if they could do anything for her. They
- 11:52Speaker 6: dropped it by thirty five percent, from four hundred and
- 11:54Speaker 6: fifty to two hundred and ninety, and so what was
- 11:57Speaker 6: the most expensive and comprehensive cover came the most affordable.
- 12:01Speaker 6: Oh sick, I didn't even know that you could do that.
- 12:03Speaker 6: You can bring around and get them to drop the
- 12:05Speaker 6: pass on it. So do your research. She said, it
- 12:08Speaker 6: pays to read the fine print, and I couldn't agree more.
- 12:11Speaker 5: That's really really good.
- 12:12Speaker 9: Now, not to put you guys on the spot.
- 12:13Speaker 6: I know you you brought some last time, but do
- 12:15Speaker 6: you have any fresh money wins or losses to share
- 12:17Speaker 6: with everybody?
- 12:18Speaker 2: Sure?
- 12:19Speaker 7: My money win was initially a money loss as well.
- 12:23Speaker 9: Oh a journey. We love that.
- 12:25Speaker 7: And it's a reminder to always look at your recurring bills.
- 12:31Speaker 7: I don't know if anybody is like me, but whenever,
- 12:34Speaker 7: like the electricity bill comes, they're like, oh, I know
- 12:38Speaker 7: I have to pay it, but I just don't even want.
- 12:39Speaker 9: To look at it or look at the details.
- 12:41Speaker 6: Yeah, I'll just see how much and I'll just pay it.
- 12:43Speaker 9: I don't even like question it.
- 12:46Speaker 7: And then my partner and I knew that our rates
- 12:49Speaker 7: had gone up, but we were like, surely not by
- 12:51Speaker 7: this much, but we paid the first quarter anyway, then
- 12:56Speaker 7: it happened again and it was even more expensive, and
- 12:58Speaker 7: we were like, no way. So we called our provider
- 13:02Speaker 7: and they were like, oh, sorry, we've been overcharging you
- 13:06Speaker 7: crazy amounts for the last two quarters. And because we
- 13:10Speaker 7: followed it up, we got an eight hundred.
- 13:12Speaker 6: Dollars you would have just kept.
- 13:18Speaker 9: Yeah. Oh my god.
- 13:20Speaker 6: The corporations truly just don't care. I know about the
- 13:23Speaker 6: little man at all. It's the lazy tax. It completely is.
- 13:27Speaker 6: It's hard with electricity and stuff because you go, oh, like,
- 13:30Speaker 6: how do you quantify that?
- 13:31Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 13:32Speaker 6: You, oh, winter, I had the heater on, Summer I
- 13:34Speaker 6: had the air got on.
- 13:35Speaker 9: Exactly.
- 13:36Speaker 7: Well that's kind of what we were thinking. And then
- 13:38Speaker 7: we were like there's no way. Yeah, because we had
- 13:41Speaker 7: made a real conscious effort not to use as much electricity,
- 13:45Speaker 7: and we were like, something has gone wrong.
- 13:47Speaker 9: Yeah, but yeah, they're.
- 13:49Speaker 6: Not going to call you being like oopsie, no, never
- 13:51Speaker 6: in history ever has a wait for you to make
- 13:54Speaker 6: that call.
- 13:55Speaker 9: So make the call. Well done, good advice, picking.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Up the phone.
- 14:00Speaker 5: It's really really good.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Okay.
- 14:02Speaker 8: So in my early twenties, I was like, why would
- 14:04Speaker 8: I use a tax agent? Because tax time and a
- 14:06Speaker 8: financial year and we're all like, yeah, tax return right.
- 14:10Speaker 8: I never used a tax accountant until maybe like four
- 14:14Speaker 8: years ago. I'm gonna say, give or take little asterix.
- 14:16Speaker 8: I can't remember anything. However, we did a mid year
- 14:20Speaker 8: money reset episode on Two Broke Chicks and we pulled
- 14:23Speaker 8: in this statistic which I was like, this has just
- 14:25Speaker 8: justified tax accountants for me for the rest of my life.
- 14:29Speaker 8: So on average, you get a bigger tax refund if
- 14:32Speaker 8: you use an accountant. So, according to hr Bloc who
- 14:34Speaker 8: did their own tax, people who did their own tax
- 14:37Speaker 8: received a refund of two thousand, five hundred and seventy
- 14:40Speaker 8: six on average in twenty twenty two.
- 14:43Speaker 2: However, people who.
- 14:45Speaker 8: Used a tax agent received an average of three thousand,
- 14:48Speaker 8: five hundred and fifty. So the average cost of a
- 14:51Speaker 8: tax agent in New South Wales ranges from one hundred
- 14:54Speaker 8: and two hundred and sixty. So using this example, even
- 14:57Speaker 8: if you paid two hundred and sixty you would still
- 15:00Speaker 8: get an additional seven hundred and fourteen back if you
- 15:02Speaker 8: did it.
- 15:03Speaker 2: On your own.
- 15:03Speaker 8: And I swear every year I'll go and I'll look
- 15:06Speaker 8: if I just do it on my own, and then
- 15:09Speaker 8: I do it with like an accountant, and it's definitely
- 15:12Speaker 8: a big difference, and I just think it's so much
- 15:15Speaker 8: it's just worth it, and you don't have to do it.
- 15:17Speaker 2: You save the time as well. Yeah, because tax is tricky.
- 15:20Speaker 6: It is so complicated, and I mean like the system
- 15:23Speaker 6: is set up well that if you know you can't
- 15:26Speaker 6: afford to go to a tax accountant, the system is
- 15:28Speaker 6: in place for you to be able to do it
- 15:29Speaker 6: by yourself. But I remember the first time I saw
- 15:31Speaker 6: an accountant, which was probably three years ago. I sat
- 15:35Speaker 6: down and the list of things that she was She
- 15:37Speaker 6: was like, you can claim like part of your house
- 15:39Speaker 6: and you can claim this. Do you like that? I
- 15:40Speaker 6: was like, oh my gosh, like I've been giving the
- 15:43Speaker 6: government so much free money for the house however long
- 15:46Speaker 6: because you just don't know what you don't know.
- 15:48Speaker 2: You can also pay.
- 15:49Speaker 8: Them through your tax return, so they like will pull
- 15:52Speaker 8: out their payment through that and then next year you
- 15:54Speaker 8: can claim tax accountant on tax as well as I'm.
- 15:58Speaker 5: Like, oh my god, yeah cool, I didn't know that.
- 16:00Speaker 7: And also travel to your accountant as well, petrol or
- 16:04Speaker 7: public transport.
- 16:05Speaker 6: Yeah, save the receipts, all the receipts, yeah, created receipts.
- 16:09Speaker 6: It's a good reminder actually to book in to see
- 16:11Speaker 6: if you are going to go see someone, book it
- 16:13Speaker 6: in now, because my I booked it the other day
- 16:14Speaker 6: and they were already booked out till September. So get
- 16:17Speaker 6: in early because everyone's trying to get that refund as
- 16:20Speaker 6: soon as possible.
- 16:21Speaker 8: Then if you're like one month late, the fine is
- 16:23Speaker 8: like over three hundred dollars. Yeah, it's crazy really, yeah,
- 16:27Speaker 8: but like every month, so I was telling me. And
- 16:29Speaker 8: then if you're like two months late to do your tags,
- 16:32Speaker 8: it's like six hundred dollars. It's like three hundred dollars
- 16:35Speaker 8: every twenty eight days.
- 16:36Speaker 4: That god.
- 16:39Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 16:39Speaker 4: Wow.
- 16:41Speaker 6: You get a lot longer though, if you have someone
- 16:43Speaker 6: doing it professionally, the time, the window for submission is
- 16:46Speaker 6: a lot longer individual, isn't it.
- 16:49Speaker 9: Yeah yeah, Whereas if you do it on your own,
- 16:50Speaker 9: it's until the thirty first of October.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:53Speaker 7: So so if you like to put it off, also get.
- 16:57Speaker 6: Not that I'm advising that, No, this is not fun,
- 17:00Speaker 6: just a friendly recommendation.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Living is so expensive, hence why we have a broke
- 17:05Speaker 4: Tip segment to help you get through, to help you
- 17:08Speaker 4: get by. As always, we have one for myself. We
- 17:12Speaker 4: usually have a couple from the community. But what are
- 17:14Speaker 4: we going to do is I'm just going to give
- 17:16Speaker 4: one from the community, and you guys, if you happen
- 17:18Speaker 4: to have a broke tip, combined or separate, we'd love
- 17:21Speaker 4: to hear it. So I'll start with the one from
- 17:23Speaker 4: the community. The one from the community actually comes from
- 17:25Speaker 4: my good friend. We've both been kind of hustling. We
- 17:29Speaker 4: just went to Japan recently. We came back.
- 17:30Speaker 5: We both broke.
- 17:32Speaker 4: It was really really irresponsible to go to Japan. But
- 17:35Speaker 4: like live love laugh. They said, that's that's powerful, and
- 17:46Speaker 4: so basically her, you know, I think last I'm not
- 17:50Speaker 4: sure if you remember this, yest, but like a few
- 17:51Speaker 4: weeks ago I mentioned free Cash's like this dumb game
- 17:55Speaker 4: and app. So she's found a few more ways since then.
- 17:58Speaker 4: I think the most recent one is if you go
- 18:00Speaker 4: on eBay. I'm sure there's so many people that knows already,
- 18:03Speaker 4: but like if you just like suss out what is
- 18:06Speaker 4: trending right now, what's making good money, and just like
- 18:09Speaker 4: random things that you might already have in your home
- 18:11Speaker 4: right now. It's like I think she found a few books,
- 18:14Speaker 4: maybe some baby books. I can't remember exactly what ones
- 18:16Speaker 4: I'm so sorry for those listening and really wanting to
- 18:18Speaker 4: know what I'm talking about. But you can find these
- 18:20Speaker 4: in op shops and you can buy them for like
- 18:23Speaker 4: four dollars at the op shop and then sell them
- 18:25Speaker 4: on eBay for one hundred or several hundred dollars. So
- 18:29Speaker 4: if you just like suss out what's trending on eBay
- 18:31Speaker 4: and then go out into the world, go find them
- 18:34Speaker 4: on either gum Tree. Everyone forgot about gum Tree. Gum
- 18:36Speaker 4: Tree is still a thing, and it's for people who
- 18:38Speaker 4: don't know the value of things.
- 18:42Speaker 5: Or you know, marketplace.
- 18:43Speaker 4: Of course, you can go through hard rubbish, op shops,
- 18:47Speaker 4: all these things. Just hustle, hustle, hustle, find out what's
- 18:50Speaker 4: trending and then go and find it real cheap and
- 18:53Speaker 4: sell it on eBay.
- 18:54Speaker 5: eBay is so good. Anyway, when I sponsored, are we by?
- 19:00Speaker 6: Maybe I should look into it.
- 19:01Speaker 9: Just isn't that clear?
- 19:04Speaker 4: Just like the amount of times said Eva that lasts
- 19:06Speaker 4: like thirty seconds. But anyway, so that's from the community
- 19:09Speaker 4: aka my friend and my personal one. I'm not sure
- 19:13Speaker 4: if you guys heard of this, but you know, dupes
- 19:15Speaker 4: have been like kind of trending or recently, it's like
- 19:17Speaker 4: it's a big thing, like maybe you'll find like a
- 19:19Speaker 4: really good perfume or like a really good jacket or whatever.
- 19:22Speaker 9: Mc beauty of it all.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Yeah, so it's all this TikTok. And it was this
- 19:27Speaker 4: woman who was saying that it's a little bit controversial.
- 19:29Speaker 4: But if you're an interior designer, if you're looking for
- 19:33Speaker 4: maybe like really good quality furniture or things for your home,
- 19:35Speaker 4: if you just type.
- 19:36Speaker 5: In I believe the front of any ur l.
- 19:39Speaker 4: Let's say that you've opened up an IR lounge or
- 19:42Speaker 4: something like that. In front of that URL, you're right
- 19:45Speaker 4: dupe dot com, and it will search the internet for
- 19:50Speaker 4: that exact lounge cheaper versions of it. So it could
- 19:55Speaker 4: be like less quality. I will preface it with that.
- 19:57Speaker 4: It could be like the quality is not as good.
- 19:59Speaker 4: Maybe they're slightly the shape is slightly different, but it
- 20:03Speaker 4: will search the internet for you or scour the internet
- 20:05Speaker 4: for you to find that exact I'll try and find
- 20:08Speaker 4: the TikTok.
- 20:08Speaker 5: And maybe we can put it somewhere.
- 20:10Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 20:10Speaker 4: But yeah, in the comments, I could see people were
- 20:12Speaker 4: like kind of arguing, like, oh, interior designers spend a
- 20:14Speaker 4: lot of time and effer and things.
- 20:17Speaker 5: And I'm like, I totally get that.
- 20:18Speaker 4: Like, if you're like an artist and you've created this
- 20:21Speaker 4: beautiful couch and someone else's like kind of ripped it
- 20:23Speaker 4: off and like selling it cheaper, I totally understand that.
- 20:26Speaker 4: I guess it's for those people who just like literally
- 20:29Speaker 4: will never be able to afford a four thousand dollars
- 20:32Speaker 4: single seater couch, you know.
- 20:34Speaker 5: So give it a go.
- 20:36Speaker 4: But also if you can afford to support artists, local artists,
- 20:40Speaker 4: interior designers and these kind of people, please do. But
- 20:43Speaker 4: if you are like me and maybe won't be able
- 20:47Speaker 4: to spend four thousand dollars the same thing, then give
- 20:51Speaker 4: it a go. Why not?
- 20:53Speaker 2: Why not?
- 20:54Speaker 1: Do?
- 20:54Speaker 6: Culture is so interesting because I think I completely agree
- 20:57Speaker 6: there are some things like the artistic license, the ownership
- 21:00Speaker 6: of the IP and all that, Like, I completely agree
- 21:03Speaker 6: that we should be respecting those things. Yes, but sometimes
- 21:06Speaker 6: it's like you're paying five hundred dollars for a T
- 21:09Speaker 6: shirt with a logo on it or a T shirt
- 21:11Speaker 6: with a design during me, And so it's interesting to
- 21:14Speaker 6: think about I guess the markup or the value that
- 21:17Speaker 6: you put on something for someone's you know, creation or
- 21:21Speaker 6: whatever I'm trying to find a way to say this
- 21:23Speaker 6: delicately and not upset anybody. But there's also just a
- 21:26Speaker 6: markup that you pay sometimes for a big corporation being like, well,
- 21:29Speaker 6: what are you going to do? Like where else are
- 21:30Speaker 6: you going to get it?
- 21:31Speaker 5: Yes? So true.
- 21:32Speaker 8: I think shopping jups is really identifying where your value
- 21:35Speaker 8: sit because it is a spectrum because you know, there
- 21:38Speaker 8: is a cost of living crisis and people do need
- 21:40Speaker 8: to find affordable options, and sometimes that's just gets called
- 21:43Speaker 8: a jupe.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Yeah, like an affordable option.
- 21:45Speaker 8: It might not be a direct copy, it might not
- 21:47Speaker 8: be that, and that gets deemed a dupe because that's
- 21:50Speaker 8: the affordable option. We've always said that a jupe is
- 21:52Speaker 8: something that serves the same purpose at the same quality, yes,
- 21:56Speaker 8: and it's more affordable. Whereas like there's things I'm like,
- 22:00Speaker 8: I just wouldn't get the dupe because I bought it.
- 22:03Speaker 8: For example, like furniture was one of those things that
- 22:05Speaker 8: I went really really cheap on and it came and it.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Was the size of a children's couch and my dad
- 22:13Speaker 2: came over and he was.
- 22:13Speaker 9: Like, what did you do? And I was like no, no, no,
- 22:15Speaker 9: don't ask.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Question was did you measure it, and I was like,
- 22:17Speaker 2: look big in the photo.
- 22:20Speaker 8: Yeah, but it's like you can find more affordable options,
- 22:25Speaker 8: save purpose and have the same quality. Yes, but yeah,
- 22:28Speaker 8: sometimes I think when you cut corners it bites you
- 22:33Speaker 8: in the bum. But then sometimes when you find something
- 22:35Speaker 8: that's really good quality and affordable, you're like, yes, that's it.
- 22:38Speaker 6: I love that, like people sharing when they found something
- 22:41Speaker 6: that he is a really good dupe or a real alternative.
- 22:43Speaker 4: To something so true and also just really quickly, I
- 22:47Speaker 4: didn't realize that dupe was spelt this way, So I
- 22:49Speaker 4: just want for anyone who's listening and doesn't in my
- 22:51Speaker 4: mind it was j op for so long.
- 22:57Speaker 8: I wish it was spelled like's have a rebrand.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Yes seriously, but for those listening and don't know, it
- 23:07Speaker 4: is d u pe d u p e okayo.
- 23:11Speaker 2: People can here about them again.
- 23:16Speaker 4: Trying to So it's just for me twelve thousand searches.
- 23:20Speaker 4: Tube's really coming back. And now do you guys happen
- 23:24Speaker 4: to have any brook tips one or two or how
- 23:28Speaker 4: many of you want to share. I'll give a quick.
- 23:30Speaker 7: One and it's a shameless plug because it's end of
- 23:33Speaker 7: financial year, sales season and for every sale event, Alex
- 23:38Speaker 7: and I make a cheat sheet, which is a spreadsheet
- 23:42Speaker 7: with all of the sales that are happening so that
- 23:44Speaker 7: you can see them all and compare them all in
- 23:46Speaker 7: one place.
- 23:47Speaker 9: So definitely check that out.
- 23:49Speaker 7: It will be on our Instagram, check out our TikTok
- 23:52Speaker 7: we'll have all the links. But yeah, if you're doing
- 23:54Speaker 7: your end of financial year sales, check out the cheat
- 23:56Speaker 7: sheet so that you don't. The worst thing is when
- 23:59Speaker 7: you go and buy some from somewhere and you're like, yes,
- 24:01Speaker 7: I got a good deal, and then you say it
- 24:03Speaker 7: somewhere else even cheaper, and you're like, oh yy plus,
- 24:07Speaker 7: then you can also say and be like can I
- 24:09Speaker 7: price match here and do that?
- 24:13Speaker 6: Yeah, so good. I've seen the list. They're actually epic.
- 24:15Speaker 6: I can't imagine how long it takes you, So please
- 24:20Speaker 6: go watch the video.
- 24:23Speaker 4: Okay, I reckon, let's go to a really quick break
- 24:24Speaker 4: and on the flip side, we're going to be helping
- 24:26Speaker 4: to answer a juicy money dilemma, which this week is
- 24:28Speaker 4: all about keeping your budget in line or getting bargains
- 24:30Speaker 4: at the end of financial us sale. And then after
- 24:33Speaker 4: that we're unpacking something that you slid into our dms,
- 24:35Speaker 4: about which this week is all about resetting your headspace
- 24:38Speaker 4: after a toxic workplace and don't go anywhere.
- 24:45Speaker 6: Welcome back, everybody. Let's take a listen to this week's
- 24:47Speaker 6: money dilemma.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma you just
- 24:53Speaker 3: can't solve. The Chese on the Money team is here
- 24:55Speaker 3: to help. Every week we tackle your dilemmas, both big
- 24:59Speaker 3: and small, to so you're most burning money, career and
- 25:01Speaker 3: life questions. To get involved, simply head to our website
- 25:05Speaker 3: and leave us a short voice recording and you might
- 25:07Speaker 3: just find yourself on the show. Now, let's take a
- 25:09Speaker 3: listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 25:13Speaker 9: I need some help.
- 25:14Speaker 11: It's early June and I've already spent my entire budget
- 25:18Speaker 11: for the month on the extras and fun stuff I.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Set aside because it was my birthday.
- 25:24Speaker 11: But with all these big end of financial year sales
- 25:27Speaker 11: coming up, I'm a little bit stuck. I need a
- 25:30Speaker 11: new hair dryer and things like running shoes. But I'm
- 25:33Speaker 11: wondering do I prioritize getting these at a discount now
- 25:37Speaker 11: and going over my budget for the month, or do
- 25:40Speaker 11: I spend likely more money on them after the sales
- 25:44Speaker 11: are over but not going out of my budget. I
- 25:47Speaker 11: am stressing. Please help.
- 25:49Speaker 5: Oh that's a good question.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Okay, I know how you feel.
- 25:57Speaker 8: But I think like after doing because I was a
- 26:00Speaker 8: shopping journalist before sal and I did Two Broke Chicks together,
- 26:03Speaker 8: So I was a shopping journalist for like five years.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:06Speaker 8: It was a great charm and so I wear like
- 26:08Speaker 8: so shopping focused too as well. But the one thing
- 26:11Speaker 8: I've learned doing that job is that there is always
- 26:14Speaker 8: another sale. There are so many sale events in the
- 26:17Speaker 8: year that I would probably say, as tempting as it
- 26:20Speaker 8: is to you know, get a really good.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Deal and the things that you're shopping.
- 26:23Speaker 8: For now, it will probably be two months max before
- 26:28Speaker 8: there's another sale that you could be shopping again that
- 26:32Speaker 8: I don't know if it's weather going over your budget.
- 26:35Speaker 2: And did she say it was her birthday?
- 26:37Speaker 9: Yeah, she said she blew her budget.
- 26:38Speaker 6: I think a little bit this month because she's just
- 26:39Speaker 6: had her birthday.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Can we make a birthday wish list? Can we get
- 26:43Speaker 2: a hairdry some vouchers?
- 26:46Speaker 8: Maybe, because I'm like, if you can get some vouchers
- 26:48Speaker 8: and put that towards it, then I'm like, slay that
- 26:50Speaker 8: doesn't count.
- 26:51Speaker 2: It's free money. There's always another sale.
- 26:53Speaker 8: It's not worth going over your budget for because there's
- 26:58Speaker 8: always going to be a good deal, going to be
- 27:00Speaker 8: a really good deal. Like we see dice in air
- 27:02Speaker 8: apps going on sale so much every year, like Black
- 27:05Speaker 8: Friday last year, they're in the four hundreds. So it's like,
- 27:08Speaker 8: I just don't think you need to because yeah, they're
- 27:11Speaker 8: pretty pretty reoccurring.
- 27:13Speaker 7: Yeah, especially for in her case, running shoes and hair
- 27:17Speaker 7: dryers like those are things that regularly go on sale
- 27:20Speaker 7: pretty much every sale event, whereas if it was something
- 27:23Speaker 7: like furniture or white goods, then I would say, okay,
- 27:26Speaker 7: well that's when you typically do see the better sales.
- 27:29Speaker 9: Around and a financial year.
- 27:31Speaker 7: But you'll be able to get these things on sale
- 27:35Speaker 7: during After Payday, which is in August, or Click Frenzy
- 27:38Speaker 7: again in November, or Black Friday of course in November.
- 27:42Speaker 9: So yeah, I.
- 27:43Speaker 7: Don't think it's worth blowing the budget either because another
- 27:45Speaker 7: opportunity will come round. But keep those particular items if
- 27:49Speaker 7: you really know what you want in your car, and
- 27:53Speaker 7: keep an eye out on when they do go on
- 27:55Speaker 7: sale so that when your budget does allow for it.
- 27:58Speaker 9: You're going to be ready to go.
- 27:59Speaker 5: Yes.
- 28:00Speaker 6: The way that these sales work is by making you
- 28:02Speaker 6: think that that deal is never gonna happen again, which
- 28:05Speaker 6: I think you guys do a lot of documenting on
- 28:07Speaker 6: your page of the different sales of the different sale period,
- 28:10Speaker 6: which I think is awesome. Like they literally it's a
- 28:12Speaker 6: psychology that they feed into to create this frenzied mindset,
- 28:16Speaker 6: which I think is so hilarious that they call it
- 28:17Speaker 6: click frenzy because they're kind of exposing themselves.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Twice a year as well.
- 28:21Speaker 8: I mean, I read it for filth, but like the
- 28:23Speaker 8: sales are pretty decent, especially towards the end of the year.
- 28:27Speaker 9: Oh absolutely.
- 28:28Speaker 8: We've done a whole thing on like impulse shopping and
- 28:30Speaker 8: how it'll be like twenty four hours only or not
- 28:32Speaker 8: to be restocked, and like these are all marketing tactics,
- 28:36Speaker 8: like you to click at cut and check out within
- 28:39Speaker 8: an hour, because if it goes over an hour, then
- 28:41Speaker 8: you're like, oh, do I need it? And then you're
- 28:43Speaker 8: like twenty four hours, you're like, oh, probably not. How
- 28:46Speaker 8: good is that feeling when you're like I'm glad I
- 28:48Speaker 8: didn't buy that thing yet?
- 28:49Speaker 2: About the money back in my pocket.
- 28:51Speaker 6: I started keeping a list of things that I wanted,
- 28:52Speaker 6: and I forgot about it, and I found it in
- 28:54Speaker 6: my notes a couple weeks ago, and I was looking
- 28:56Speaker 6: at just things that I wanted, you know, four months ago,
- 28:58Speaker 6: five months ago, So many things on the list.
- 29:01Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, I.
- 29:01Speaker 6: Don't care about that nail. Yeah, So it's crazy that
- 29:03Speaker 6: twenty four hour mindset, even you know, such a short
- 29:06Speaker 6: period can really be the circuit breakup between falling for
- 29:09Speaker 6: the marketing and not. The other thing I'd say is
- 29:11Speaker 6: reassess your definition of need. Potentially, you say you need
- 29:15Speaker 6: a new hair dry Is that because yours broken you
- 29:17Speaker 6: physically do not own one, or is it because you're
- 29:19Speaker 6: using the same one you had? You know when you're
- 29:21Speaker 6: in high school and you're like, oh, she's been ugly.
- 29:24Speaker 6: She doesn't do the job the best, but she does
- 29:25Speaker 6: do the job.
- 29:26Speaker 2: I'm sitting right here, me to.
- 29:30Speaker 6: Me because I desperately want the new Peek dice and
- 29:33Speaker 6: air up instead of my six year old hot pink one.
- 29:36Speaker 2: I have the old one too, and I still love her.
- 29:38Speaker 2: I'm like, she's still kicking.
- 29:39Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 29:40Speaker 2: My Facebook marketplace.
- 29:41Speaker 6: Yeah, I got mine, I think in a sale and
- 29:43Speaker 6: it was really cheap, but it's the short barrels along back.
- 29:46Speaker 9: But do you know what I mean?
- 29:46Speaker 6: Like, does it still dry my hair? Absolutely?
- 29:49Speaker 1: It does.
- 29:49Speaker 8: It's always going to be updated as well, yeah, to
- 29:52Speaker 8: be like, oh I need the new, Like look at
- 29:53Speaker 8: us with iPhones.
- 29:54Speaker 9: Yeah yeah, I'm literally my.
- 29:56Speaker 8: Dad being like, look at a buying phone.
- 29:58Speaker 9: I buy it every year.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Phones don't work.
- 30:03Speaker 4: Where often made so much better because no one like
- 30:07Speaker 4: thought about planet obsolescence when they were making old products.
- 30:09Speaker 9: You know what I mean?
- 30:10Speaker 4: Now, like an iPhone will be like it will die
- 30:12Speaker 4: in a year because that's what it's meant to do
- 30:14Speaker 4: by design, by design, damn you seriously.
- 30:23Speaker 5: I think that's pretty great advice.
- 30:25Speaker 4: And like, you know me, I wouldn't take you know,
- 30:28Speaker 4: this kind of advice for myself because I would be
- 30:30Speaker 4: like immediately, I was like, you gotta get it. You
- 30:32Speaker 4: got to get those bargains, babe. But you guys had
- 30:35Speaker 4: some really solid advice, so I would probably go with that.
- 30:38Speaker 4: If you're listening to this, do not listen to me.
- 30:42Speaker 4: Are you guys ready for a juicy money dilemma?
- 30:45Speaker 5: I'm kind of like shaking, I'm gagging for it, So
- 30:48Speaker 5: let's get into it. Here's this week's DM.
- 30:50Speaker 4: Hey girls, I'm on the job hunt after leaving a
- 30:53Speaker 4: toxic workplace and and feeling so relieved to be out
- 30:56Speaker 4: of there, but also needing to get something soon. But
- 30:59Speaker 4: I'm a bit terrifed by my headspace right now. I've
- 31:01Speaker 4: pretty much been in an abusive workplace for two years
- 31:04Speaker 4: and feel a bit broken, like after a bad breakup,
- 31:07Speaker 4: and I'm worried I'm not putting my best foot forward
- 31:09Speaker 4: because it stripped my confidence away. Any help you can
- 31:12Speaker 4: give to reframe and refresh my thinking would be so appreciated.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Oh, I just want to give.
- 31:20Speaker 5: Yeah, seriously. Yeah, it is a real tough one.
- 31:24Speaker 4: But just like an abusive relationship, I know, it's a
- 31:26Speaker 4: bit harder because you like, you know, obviously need money.
- 31:28Speaker 5: You need pay bills and things like that.
- 31:30Speaker 4: I totally get that, but just like an abusive relationship,
- 31:33Speaker 4: you do need to give yourself time to heal. It's
- 31:35Speaker 4: a bit of a catch sween too, because I was
- 31:36Speaker 4: going to like suggest therapy, but to pay for therapy
- 31:39Speaker 4: you need a job sort of things. So I would say,
- 31:42Speaker 4: just strip it all the way back down, you know,
- 31:44Speaker 4: try and get a job. That's really chill, really not easy.
- 31:48Speaker 4: At all by any means, but just like something that
- 31:50Speaker 4: you can just leave at the at the door, you know,
- 31:52Speaker 4: like maybe, for example, I love being a kitchen hand,
- 31:55Speaker 4: genuinely love being a dishy. So if I was in
- 31:58Speaker 4: this position, I'll be like, I'm just gonna get a
- 32:00Speaker 4: really fun dishy job. I'm going to like go to
- 32:02Speaker 4: like cafes and pubs and be like, what looks like
- 32:04Speaker 4: a good team, these guys look cool. I might just
- 32:06Speaker 4: like see if they have a dishy job available. You
- 32:08Speaker 4: can just like go in. You don't have to think
- 32:10Speaker 4: about anything. You have some fun, and you leave like
- 32:12Speaker 4: something that's so easy. Don't jump straight back into something
- 32:15Speaker 4: that's high stress, potentially high stress, potentially toxic. Again, just
- 32:20Speaker 4: take your time, just try and find something to bring
- 32:22Speaker 4: money in, maybe go to therapy if you can afford it,
- 32:25Speaker 4: and let yourself heal, Let yourself he really take it
- 32:28Speaker 4: as though it's an abusive relationship that you just got
- 32:31Speaker 4: out of and you must heal before going back into
- 32:33Speaker 4: a new one.
- 32:33Speaker 8: You know.
- 32:34Speaker 9: Yeah, one of my friends actually did that.
- 32:36Speaker 7: She was in like a really intense industry for probably
- 32:40Speaker 7: ten years, like ever since we left High Score.
- 32:42Speaker 9: And then a.
- 32:43Speaker 7: Series of unfortunate events happened to her as well, and
- 32:46Speaker 7: she was like, I'm quitting this job.
- 32:48Speaker 6: And then she was lucky enough that she was able to, you.
- 32:51Speaker 7: Know, move back to our hometown and live with her
- 32:54Speaker 7: family to take some of that financial pressure off, which
- 32:57Speaker 7: I know everybody doesn't have the opportunity to do. But
- 33:00Speaker 7: she went and worked in a bar for a few months,
- 33:03Speaker 7: and she said it was the best thing that she
- 33:05Speaker 7: ever did because it gave her, you know, a little
- 33:08Speaker 7: bit of money to fall back on and continue to save,
- 33:11Speaker 7: so she wasn't just digging into her savings, which would
- 33:13Speaker 7: have been stressful. But also it was just a completely
- 33:17Speaker 7: different workplace and headspace to what she'd been in previously,
- 33:20Speaker 7: and she was actually able to switch off when she
- 33:23Speaker 7: left work, which she could never do before. And then
- 33:26Speaker 7: she also used some of that money to put towards
- 33:29Speaker 7: therapy as well, which I think really helped her and
- 33:32Speaker 7: helped build her confidence back up again. But I think
- 33:35Speaker 7: it's a good reminder as well that if this person
- 33:38Speaker 7: decides that they don't want to take, you know, maybe
- 33:40Speaker 7: a career break, and they want to continue in the
- 33:42Speaker 7: industry that they're in. When you're going into interviews, remember
- 33:46Speaker 7: that the people that are interviewing you want you to
- 33:50Speaker 7: succeed because they want to fill this position and they
- 33:53Speaker 7: want you to be great. They're not waiting for you
- 33:56Speaker 7: to come in and be like, all right, what's her baggage?
- 33:59Speaker 7: Like you know, so what's she going to do to
- 34:01Speaker 7: stuff up? Or they're not waiting for you to make mistakes.
- 34:05Speaker 7: They want you to do well. And I think if
- 34:08Speaker 7: you go into it with that mindset like, oh, they
- 34:11Speaker 7: don't know about all of this stuff that I've been through,
- 34:13Speaker 7: They don't know about perhaps these confidence issues that I have.
- 34:17Speaker 9: They just see all of the great things.
- 34:19Speaker 7: That I've got on my resume and in my coverletta,
- 34:22Speaker 7: and that's what they see me for.
- 34:23Speaker 9: Because I think sometimes you go in.
- 34:25Speaker 7: And they're like, Okay, they're going to know that I'm
- 34:27Speaker 7: a fraud, or they're going to know that I'm not confident,
- 34:29Speaker 7: but they don't know that.
- 34:30Speaker 2: No.
- 34:31Speaker 8: Also reminding yourself that when someone's pushing confidence issues on you,
- 34:35Speaker 8: that's often a reflection of them, Like this toxic workplace,
- 34:38Speaker 8: which sounds horrible, was probably reflecting themselves inwardly, like everyone
- 34:44Speaker 8: deals with imposter syndrome and confidence issues, and remembering that
- 34:48Speaker 8: it was their issue, not yours. Can sometimes be the
- 34:51Speaker 8: thing that can push you to do the thing that
- 34:53Speaker 8: you're nervous about doing.
- 34:55Speaker 2: It's so okay to be nervous.
- 34:56Speaker 8: It's so okay to you know, want to just like
- 34:59Speaker 8: curl up on the couch to watch bridget Ten because same,
- 35:02Speaker 8: but it's you're gonna hold yourself back for too long
- 35:05Speaker 8: if you're not doing the thing that's scary because you
- 35:08Speaker 8: know it's the same as like if you go through
- 35:10Speaker 8: a bad breakup and then you're getting back into dating,
- 35:13Speaker 8: that's gonna be scary. If you go through a bad
- 35:15Speaker 8: workplace and getting back into a workplace, that's going to
- 35:17Speaker 8: be scary. But if you don't give yourself the opportunity,
- 35:20Speaker 8: you'll never find the thing that's good too, if you're
- 35:23Speaker 8: scared that everything's going to be bad. So I think
- 35:26Speaker 8: definitely what you said is like people want you to succeed.
- 35:29Speaker 8: Like whenever Sale and I are nervous about something, people
- 35:31Speaker 8: want to see you win.
- 35:32Speaker 2: They don't want to see you fall on your face.
- 35:34Speaker 8: So remembering that and just remembering that it's okay to
- 35:37Speaker 8: be nervous, and sometimes writing down a list of things
- 35:40Speaker 8: you can control and things you can't control. Is really helpful,
- 35:44Speaker 8: especially if you're going to go into an interview as well.
- 35:46Speaker 8: That can really help with nerves.
- 35:47Speaker 6: Yeah, I think as well. Have you guys seen that graph?
- 35:51Speaker 6: It shows the way that the people you interact with
- 35:54Speaker 6: the amount of time that you spend with them, the
- 35:56Speaker 6: influence that they have on you and your perception of things.
- 35:58Speaker 6: And as time goes on, we you know, at our
- 36:01Speaker 6: midpoint of our lives where I think a lot of
- 36:03Speaker 6: our community kind of sit. We spend so much time
- 36:05Speaker 6: with our co workers and potentially like less at the
- 36:08Speaker 6: time with our friends, and so we really become a reflection.
- 36:12Speaker 6: We internalize and take on a lot of those things
- 36:14Speaker 6: from the people around us. And I know a big
- 36:17Speaker 6: part of your new book is about finding like the
- 36:19Speaker 6: right people to surround yourselves with, and obviously you're talking
- 36:22Speaker 6: about friendship, but I think that is very applicable to
- 36:25Speaker 6: a workplace as well, and finding the right fit for you.
- 36:29Speaker 6: And as someone who has worked many a job and
- 36:31Speaker 6: has lived quite a few career lives before I kind
- 36:33Speaker 6: of found my footing, it is okay to go into somewhere,
- 36:38Speaker 6: assess it, settle in, and decide that it's not right
- 36:41Speaker 6: for you, Like I think there is a bit of
- 36:43Speaker 6: a mindset that you need to find exactly the right
- 36:45Speaker 6: thing and you have to be there for ten years
- 36:47Speaker 6: and you have to do if you get there and
- 36:50Speaker 6: by you know, three or six months and you go,
- 36:52Speaker 6: the vibe is not the vibe. You can leave and
- 36:55Speaker 6: that is okay, and that's not going to be held
- 36:57Speaker 6: against you. And I think that they're so much value
- 37:01Speaker 6: in finding not only a career that you find fulfilling
- 37:04Speaker 6: in a job that you actually like doing, but also
- 37:06Speaker 6: just a group of people because you spend so much
- 37:09Speaker 6: time with them and it's really important that you can
- 37:13Speaker 6: feel like you have a relationship with them and that
- 37:15Speaker 6: a bit you know, a friendship on some level because
- 37:17Speaker 6: you're spending that much time together, that how they make
- 37:21Speaker 6: you feel will have a direct impact on your self worth.
- 37:24Speaker 6: It will have a direct impact on your day to
- 37:26Speaker 6: day happiness.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Thousand per cent.
- 37:28Speaker 8: We do actually talk about this in the book and
- 37:30Speaker 8: how you can find your people in the workplace, because
- 37:32Speaker 8: that's how Sala and I met.
- 37:33Speaker 2: Yeah, we met through working together.
- 37:35Speaker 8: And I think as well, especially if you're working at
- 37:38Speaker 8: a big team, there's always going to be people you
- 37:39Speaker 8: don't like oh completely, that's just going to happen. But
- 37:41Speaker 8: if you do have your people, then you do have
- 37:43Speaker 8: your friends there or people that you can rely on.
- 37:46Speaker 8: It means that at the end of the day you
- 37:47Speaker 8: can like go bitch about the fucking water cooler or
- 37:50Speaker 8: whatever you want to do and just be like, Okay,
- 37:53Speaker 8: that wasn't the best, but at least I've got this
- 37:55Speaker 8: to fall back.
- 37:56Speaker 2: On, and they can kind of lift you up and
- 37:58Speaker 2: you can lean on them when you need it.
- 37:59Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I just won't give them a heart.
- 38:03Speaker 6: Ultimately, it's not about you, Like I just can't say enough.
- 38:06Speaker 6: It is not your fault. It is a failure in management.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Of managers, and it does do that.
- 38:12Speaker 8: Like I went to therapy due to a manager, so
- 38:16Speaker 8: I can really understand how she felt and the work
- 38:20Speaker 8: actually sent me to the therapy because this is your fault, like.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Eap come through king.
- 38:29Speaker 6: Yeah, but also just time, yeah, time, give yourself space.
- 38:33Speaker 6: What did everybody else kind of think about the situation?
- 38:35Speaker 5: Okay, so this is what everyone else had to say?
- 38:38Speaker 4: One person said, report bad bosses, report income theft, report
- 38:41Speaker 4: it all. Yes, queen, get it, which is good because
- 38:44Speaker 4: like that means the next person won't have the same journey.
- 38:47Speaker 6: Fair work covers that kind of stuff too, just for
- 38:50Speaker 6: anyone wondering. I know when we think about fair work,
- 38:52Speaker 6: a lot of the time we think about like, yeah,
- 38:54Speaker 6: not being paid correctly, super not being done. Fair work
- 38:57Speaker 6: is actually there to ensure that there is a safe
- 39:00Speaker 6: environment for you, and that includes mental health and mental stability.
- 39:03Speaker 6: And so if you have a HR, I think HR
- 39:06Speaker 6: is probably a better and closer first step. But if
- 39:08Speaker 6: you work for maybe a smaller business or something like that,
- 39:11Speaker 6: fair work does exist to help make sure that you
- 39:13Speaker 6: as an employee are looked after. True, and so that's
- 39:15Speaker 6: someway that you can report to you.
- 39:17Speaker 5: Yeah, good call.
- 39:18Speaker 4: The next one says it can be a good lesson
- 39:20Speaker 4: on how to not behave if you move into leadership
- 39:23Speaker 4: slash people facing roles, which I think is a really
- 39:25Speaker 4: good point obviously, Like I'm sure this person's probably know
- 39:28Speaker 4: healing right now, so he isn't thinking about that, But
- 39:31Speaker 4: it is really good to just like keep under your belt,
- 39:34Speaker 4: keep in your pocket for if you exactly want not
- 39:37Speaker 4: to do how to not treat someone. I think we
- 39:39Speaker 4: do like if we find ourselves in a leadership role someday,
- 39:43Speaker 4: it is good to go through these experiences because.
- 39:44Speaker 5: Like, Okay, I know that I will not be like this.
- 39:48Speaker 4: Another person said, remind yourself of who you were before
- 39:52Speaker 4: the crap job.
- 39:53Speaker 8: You're still that person. That's really sweet, And it's not
- 39:55Speaker 8: a good reminder that you aren't your job. No, you
- 39:58Speaker 8: have other things that you like about yourself. Your entire
- 40:01Speaker 8: success does not rely on your workplace.
- 40:03Speaker 4: With your career, yeah, someone else said, and this is
- 40:05Speaker 4: not really advice, but it is so true. We spend
- 40:07Speaker 4: so much time at work. It's not healthy to be
- 40:09Speaker 4: so exposed toxic energy. That's so true. Someone else said,
- 40:13Speaker 4: it is always worth it to leave and don't put
- 40:15Speaker 4: pressure on yourself to get over it quickly.
- 40:18Speaker 5: That is so true.
- 40:19Speaker 4: And because exactly as this person said, exactly as I
- 40:21Speaker 4: was saying before, Like it literally is an abusive situation,
- 40:24Speaker 4: abusive toxic workplace that you must heal from, So give
- 40:27Speaker 4: yourself time. So I think this is a really good
- 40:29Speaker 4: one to leave it on. It is so hard to
- 40:31Speaker 4: spot bad culture. But don't feel bad about job hopping
- 40:34Speaker 4: until you find your people.
- 40:36Speaker 5: So true, beautiful, I think that's so true.
- 40:43Speaker 4: I think just yeah, job hop find your people, heal,
- 40:46Speaker 4: take your time, do whatever you gotta do, just make
- 40:48Speaker 4: sure you remember who you were before.
- 40:50Speaker 6: You started and who you want to be, like you
- 40:52Speaker 6: want to still change, you can still adapt and shift
- 40:55Speaker 6: like yes.
- 40:56Speaker 4: Life is so long, despite what people say, life long.
- 40:58Speaker 4: You can change, you can shape shift whatever you want
- 41:01Speaker 4: to do.
- 41:02Speaker 6: And speaking of finding your people, guys, thank you so
- 41:05Speaker 6: much for joining us. Do you want to tell everyone
- 41:07Speaker 6: a little bit about the book and where they can
- 41:09Speaker 6: find it and what it is?
- 41:10Speaker 8: Of course, So like we said before, this is kind
- 41:13Speaker 8: of like our little friendship baby. So we have been
- 41:16Speaker 8: doing two Broach Chicks for you know, the last two
- 41:18Speaker 8: years and probably the most common question we get is
- 41:20Speaker 8: how do I make friends as an adult? And according
- 41:23Speaker 8: to a State of the Nation report in twenty twenty three,
- 41:25Speaker 8: one in three Australians feel lonely some or at all times,
- 41:28Speaker 8: which is just wild and huge because we don't.
- 41:31Speaker 2: Talk about it.
- 41:31Speaker 8: We don't talk about how hard it is to make
- 41:33Speaker 8: friends because it is a little bit you know, overwhelming,
- 41:36Speaker 8: and we might find it embarrassing and that's okay. So
- 41:38Speaker 8: we kind of wrote this book to be like a
- 41:40Speaker 8: bit of a best friend to people to help them
- 41:43Speaker 8: find friendship within themselves. Cut off toxic relationships and also
- 41:48Speaker 8: to find their people.
- 41:50Speaker 9: And you can shop at wherever all good books are sold.
- 41:53Speaker 7: So you know all the usuals booked Opia, demn Mix, Kmart,
- 41:57Speaker 7: big w. We also did an audio book That's your
- 42:00Speaker 7: thing too, so that's available on Spotify Audible.
- 42:04Speaker 9: Just give it a Google and you'll find it.
- 42:06Speaker 6: Amazing and we might remember but obviously give a plug
- 42:09Speaker 6: for your socials just in case anyone miss the last episode.
- 42:11Speaker 9: Oh yes, of course.
- 42:13Speaker 7: So you can follow us on Instagram at two Broke Chicks,
- 42:16Speaker 7: on TikTok at two Broke Chicks Underscore, and check out
- 42:20Speaker 7: our podcast two bread Chicks.
- 42:22Speaker 9: You made it nice and easy for a.
- 42:25Speaker 5: Thank you guys so much.
- 42:26Speaker 4: It has been such a pleasure and please come back
- 42:28Speaker 4: again anytime.
- 42:31Speaker 2: So it's been so nice doing it in person this time.
- 42:34Speaker 6: Yes, so much better, isn't that when you can just feel?
- 42:41Speaker 4: And that also means that we can all now go
- 42:43Speaker 4: get a coffee. Okay, guys, Victoria will see you bright
- 42:46Speaker 4: and early Monday morning. Until then, have a great weekend.
