- 0:20Speaker 2: We'd help you shed the shame, grow to new level.
- 0:23Speaker 2: We're gonna laugh, cry, and talk about the topics everyone
- 0:26Speaker 2: else is too afraid to talk about.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Get ready for your next level of self Welcome back
- 0:31Speaker 3: to She Rises from your favorite podcasts. We hope a hope,
- 0:35Speaker 3: we know we have an epic conversation we want to
- 0:37Speaker 3: have today around the Alexandra Cooper effect. This is somebody
- 0:41Speaker 3: who's big in the podcast world, big in the podcast industry.
- 0:44Speaker 3: She is a pioneer in the field and we just
- 0:47Speaker 3: absolutely love her and we want to talk about her
- 0:49Speaker 3: like insatiable drive, polarizing power, and the freedom to be yourself.
- 0:53Speaker 2: She is one incredible woman and I already like looked
- 0:57Speaker 2: up to her because she's obviously the number one female
- 1:00Speaker 2: podcast in the world. The guests she gets on there
- 1:03Speaker 2: are insane. Literally every celebrity, every person wants to be
- 1:05Speaker 2: on her podcast. She's super successful. The contract she got
- 1:08Speaker 2: from Spotify absolutely amazing.
- 1:10Speaker 1: She's killing it. The co lab.
- 1:12Speaker 2: She gets like she's a powerhouse for sure. But the
- 1:14Speaker 2: thing I always loved about her and I love even
- 1:17Speaker 2: more now after watching her two part documentary series on Netflix.
- 1:20Speaker 2: If you haven't watched her, it's called Call Her Alex.
- 1:22Speaker 2: She is one hundred percent herself. Yeah, and she gives
- 1:26Speaker 2: absolute zero fus what anyone thinks about her.
- 1:30Speaker 1: She does.
- 1:31Speaker 2: And she originally started talking, like with her best friend
- 1:33Speaker 2: on her podcast, about sex, about the blow job she
- 1:37Speaker 2: was giving about her sexual stories. She was so open,
- 1:40Speaker 2: so rogue, like, if we talked about that, we, oh
- 1:43Speaker 2: my gosh, the backlash would get.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Oh, actually doesn't care. She doesn't care.
- 1:46Speaker 2: And that's how she built her audience. And I believe
- 1:48Speaker 2: she built that really strong community because she was so
- 1:50Speaker 2: open and vulnerable and she was talking about the things
- 1:52Speaker 2: no one else was talking about.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Yes, so she was willing to just be honest, yeah,
- 1:55Speaker 3: real and authentic about the things that actually happened behind
- 1:57Speaker 3: closed doors. When everyone's having those conversations with their girlfriends anyway, yes,
- 2:02Speaker 3: but they're just not happening like on a platform like this.
- 2:05Speaker 2: And even her mom's a teacher or psychologist, teacher a psychologists,
- 2:07Speaker 2: I think, yeah, And even mom and dad are fully
- 2:09Speaker 2: supporting there. Like, yeah, she's always been open, she's always
- 2:12Speaker 2: been in front of the camera. She's always got a
- 2:13Speaker 2: microphone in her hand. She's always been loud, and we've
- 2:15Speaker 2: always encouraged her to be all of herself. And she
- 2:18Speaker 2: got really bullied in school, but when she go home,
- 2:21Speaker 2: she was just free to be herself. And she's got
- 2:23Speaker 2: all these videos from when she's younger, just having the
- 2:26Speaker 2: microphone and just talking and singing and acting and performing
- 2:29Speaker 2: and dancing. And now look at her doing like her
- 2:31Speaker 2: dream job, having these live shows and running this podcast.
- 2:34Speaker 1: It's just really cool. It's very cool.
- 2:36Speaker 3: I think it was cool to watch the documentary and
- 2:38Speaker 3: watch the way that she kind of grew up. Like
- 2:39Speaker 3: what you said, she was kind of made for the camera,
- 2:42Speaker 3: Like she was always directing and putting these little skits together,
- 2:45Speaker 3: and like dancing with her friends, and like sitting down
- 2:47Speaker 3: in the basement where like her playroom was, and like
- 2:50Speaker 3: putting on all these kids and dressing up with her girlfriends.
- 2:52Speaker 3: And like her best friend now, who she used to
- 2:54Speaker 3: do that with when she was younger. They are working
- 2:56Speaker 3: together now. She's her producer now, yes, which is such
- 2:59Speaker 3: a cool thing to be able to experience after like
- 3:02Speaker 3: fifteen years or twenty years of friendship, to still be
- 3:04Speaker 3: so plugged in, to like do what they were doing
- 3:06Speaker 3: when they were little, but now on such a larger scale.
- 3:09Speaker 1: It's so cool. It really is cool.
- 3:12Speaker 2: It was really inspiring for us because there has been
- 3:14Speaker 2: some episodes that we have recorded and then not gone
- 3:17Speaker 2: ahead with them because of fear, fear of judgment, fear
- 3:21Speaker 2: of being canceled, fear of what people think of us,
- 3:24Speaker 2: fear of being put into a box, fear of being
- 3:26Speaker 2: known for that one particular podcast episode. We had a conversation, hey,
- 3:30Speaker 2: because even you as a coach, you're like, oh, I
- 3:32Speaker 2: don't want to be known for that. Or no, you said,
- 3:34Speaker 2: I'm worried if we talk about this, it'll make other
- 3:37Speaker 2: guests not want to come on our podcasts. Yes, And
- 3:39Speaker 2: then we watched this, you were like, oh, that kind
- 3:41Speaker 2: of squashed that story.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Honestly, because she literally.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Had anyone and everyone that you can think of goes
- 3:45Speaker 2: on her podcast and they do not hesitate no from
- 3:48Speaker 2: anything she's talking about. She has not been canceled for
- 3:50Speaker 2: any of it. Everyone just wants to be on her
- 3:52Speaker 2: podcast to have these authentic conversations where they can be
- 3:55Speaker 2: their full selves. And I think that was really inspiring.
- 3:58Speaker 3: It was really cool actually because the content that she
- 4:01Speaker 3: used to post, which was like like what you mentioned
- 4:03Speaker 3: talking about Dixon, like the std sdis sdis and STDs
- 4:07Speaker 3: that she.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Caught, you know, all the ones that she got.
- 4:09Speaker 3: You know, she'd jump on a stage and like scream
- 4:11Speaker 3: out like you know, things that happened, you know, back
- 4:13Speaker 3: when she was in school or whatever she's doing with
- 4:16Speaker 3: boys and like all the things. And I just thought
- 4:18Speaker 3: it was so funny because it did it completely squashed
- 4:21Speaker 3: the beliefs that I had that you have to be
- 4:23Speaker 3: professional and it ought to be taken seriously. And it's
- 4:25Speaker 3: so interesting because there is a whole world that is
- 4:29Speaker 3: kind of like that, you know, the more professional kind
- 4:31Speaker 3: of people and the people who talk more about like
- 4:33Speaker 3: business and stuff.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Sure like they're in their own kind of box.
- 4:35Speaker 3: But then there's this woman who's like this pioneer in
- 4:38Speaker 3: her field, and she just comes out of the woodwork.
- 4:39Speaker 3: She's talking about sex and this and that, and like
- 4:42Speaker 3: people take her seriously. She's fun and playful and big
- 4:46Speaker 3: and bold and like isn't afraid of what people will
- 4:48Speaker 3: think and Also, she's literally the highest paid podcaster in
- 4:51Speaker 3: the world. And it's so interesting because I remember watching
- 4:54Speaker 3: it being like, well, that fear is invalid, that belief
- 4:58Speaker 3: is like totally squash Now. It was like she had
- 5:00Speaker 3: the Vice President of the United States of America on
- 5:02Speaker 3: her podcast and like five years ago she talking about
- 5:04Speaker 3: Dick on the podcast.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I just find it's so cool.
- 5:08Speaker 3: It really helped me remove the limitations that I put
- 5:11Speaker 3: on myself around who I need to be. And that
- 5:13Speaker 3: kind of came from me having my coaching business and thinking,
- 5:17Speaker 3: oh my god, I have to be serious and I
- 5:18Speaker 3: have to be coached Tiana, and I have to be
- 5:20Speaker 3: professional and sure a certain way. And also that was
- 5:23Speaker 3: what I was surrounded by in the quote unquote coaching industry.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Yes, I'm just like fuck that, Like why all of them?
- 5:29Speaker 3: Yeah, when I do my coaching videos and I do
- 5:31Speaker 3: she rises content, it's like world's part.
- 5:34Speaker 1: But I'm like, okay, cool, how can I like bring
- 5:35Speaker 1: those together? Yeah, and do whatever authentically feels good for you.
- 5:39Speaker 2: And part of your personality is very playful, so playful,
- 5:42Speaker 2: it's very silly, it's very sarcastic, it's very unhinged. Yes,
- 5:45Speaker 2: it's like, I love that about you. Why would everyone
- 5:48Speaker 2: else not love that about you? Yes, and even all
- 5:49Speaker 2: the business people that you were just speaking about. They
- 5:52Speaker 2: also go on her podcast yeah to talk about business.
- 5:54Speaker 2: They do talk about their lives, talk about how they
- 5:56Speaker 2: got to where they are, and it doesn't matter anything
- 5:59Speaker 2: about Alex's past.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Yes, it's totally irrelevant.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's also cool that highlights to me also
- 6:04Speaker 3: is just another piece of evidence of like, Okay, if
- 6:06Speaker 3: I'm like this behind closed doors, all these other people
- 6:08Speaker 3: who have businesses and who are quote unquote serious have
- 6:11Speaker 3: personalities too. They're not fucking boring. They're not walking around
- 6:15Speaker 3: being like this is how I actually act all day. No,
- 6:17Speaker 3: they're funny, they're humorous, they play they you know, we
- 6:20Speaker 3: talk about fucking sex all the time. And oh my god,
- 6:24Speaker 3: Like if you heard the way that we spoke when
- 6:26Speaker 3: we were together.
- 6:26Speaker 1: You would die. Everything is you would die conversations. Oh
- 6:29Speaker 1: my god, everything is sexual and at everything.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Like, I've never had so much more fun in my life.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Literally, it feels so liberating and free just to like
- 6:38Speaker 2: say whatever comes out you just it's going to be received.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Oh no, you're not going to get canceled.
- 6:42Speaker 3: I mean on the podcast maybe but together no, yeah, like, oh,
- 6:47Speaker 3: it just it was so inspiring to watch it, feel
- 6:49Speaker 3: like it lit a fire up my arms. Yeah, so
- 6:51Speaker 3: to speak to watch that because I was just like, fuck,
- 6:54Speaker 3: I'm just not thinking big enough.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's just cool just to bring more of
- 6:58Speaker 2: our personality to the podcast. Yeah, and it is a
- 7:00Speaker 2: work in progress. I wouldn't say where where Alex is at. No,
- 7:03Speaker 2: we still hesitate. We're still like, oh, should we have
- 7:05Speaker 2: said that? Yeah, maybe we'll take that part out and
- 7:08Speaker 2: we have to like really sit up and be like, no,
- 7:10Speaker 2: that's okay for that to go out.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Yes, that's okay. People might not like that. We're not
- 7:14Speaker 1: here to be liked by everyone.
- 7:15Speaker 2: No, we're not here to just be fluffy and everyone go,
- 7:18Speaker 2: oh those girls are cute. Yeah, Like we're here to
- 7:20Speaker 2: be polarizing. We're here to trigger you. We're here to
- 7:22Speaker 2: have the hard conversations. We're here to talk about the
- 7:25Speaker 2: things that no one else is talking about or they're
- 7:27Speaker 2: talking about closed doors and they're so shameful. But we
- 7:29Speaker 2: want to bring it here and be like, it's not
- 7:30Speaker 2: that deep, it's okay. We can talk about that. We
- 7:33Speaker 2: can talk about that.
- 7:33Speaker 3: It's fine, Yeah, it's a fine line with what it
- 7:36Speaker 3: is that we bring on here and things like that,
- 7:37Speaker 3: because we also we want it to be received in
- 7:39Speaker 3: a way that you're able to receive it, you know.
- 7:41Speaker 3: And then there's also a lot of pushback, Like people
- 7:44Speaker 3: on social media or just in general online are very open.
- 7:48Speaker 3: They don't care about what they say this freemom speech,
- 7:50Speaker 3: like people just are so fucking unhinged about what it
- 7:54Speaker 3: is that they leave comments about and like what they
- 7:56Speaker 3: talk about, like, oh my god, like the shit that
- 7:57Speaker 3: we've seen in our fucking reviews.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, it's interesting. Yeah, it's a lot of projections. Yes,
- 8:03Speaker 1: but also that's okay.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Yeah again, like what you said, we're not here to
- 8:06Speaker 3: be everybody's cup of tea, And it's also okay that, like,
- 8:09Speaker 3: there are gonna be people who don't like us, but
- 8:10Speaker 3: I don't feel like everybody, And.
- 8:12Speaker 2: It's not going to stop us doing our thing anyways.
- 8:13Speaker 2: If you think it's going to bring us down and
- 8:15Speaker 2: you think we're gonna stop talking, we're not.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Sorry.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Just Gone thousand and two is just starting, like just
- 8:19Speaker 3: getting one dart and wait, you know, literally.
- 8:22Speaker 1: But it's cool. It's definitely cool. I don't know.
- 8:25Speaker 3: I've seen a world of change, even just in myself,
- 8:27Speaker 3: like speaking to myself, a world of change in myself
- 8:29Speaker 3: since doing she rises. Yeah, of like how much more
- 8:31Speaker 3: comfortable one I feel in myself and to how much
- 8:34Speaker 3: more willing I am to talk about things vulnerably, especially
- 8:36Speaker 3: like with so many people listening. Yeah, you know, sometimes
- 8:38Speaker 3: I forget some of the shit that I share.
- 8:40Speaker 1: I know, listen back, We're like, wow, we went there.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Wow, there was this Oh my god, this one episode.
- 8:46Speaker 1: It was a really rogue episode. It's very sexual. It
- 8:49Speaker 1: was very sexual, very unhinged. We think at the first
- 8:52Speaker 1: minute we spoke about I don't know.
- 8:55Speaker 3: It was honestly forty like forty five seconds in and
- 8:57Speaker 3: we looked at each other and we.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Were like, oh what maybe not.
- 9:01Speaker 2: We were horny that day. We were both in the phase
- 9:05Speaker 2: about circle.
- 9:05Speaker 1: We were. Yeah, we were follicular phase in full swing. Yeah,
- 9:09Speaker 1: that's funny. Hey, let should revisit that just for a lull.
- 9:12Speaker 2: We spoke about this in a previous podcast with how
- 9:14Speaker 2: private Steve is as a person. Otherwise I would be
- 9:17Speaker 2: so much more open. Yeah, that's just Something's like, gosh,
- 9:19Speaker 2: I would love's talk about that, but I have to
- 9:21Speaker 2: respect his privacy as well, Yes, of course, but I
- 9:23Speaker 2: share as much as I can on here.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I just love it.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Like I don't want to listen to fluffy podcasts. Yes,
- 9:28Speaker 2: I don't want to just hear how the fucking weather
- 9:30Speaker 2: is and that you wore a cute out. But on
- 9:31Speaker 2: the weekend, tell me your chinal trauma, tell me the
- 9:34Speaker 2: depths of your darkness. I want to see how you've
- 9:37Speaker 2: got to where you are now.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Shed do an episode on that. Yeah, she do a
- 9:40Speaker 1: whole episode on that. Definitely. I don't want the fluffy
- 9:42Speaker 1: stuff anymore. It's training. It's boring.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, yes, please don't waste my time.
- 9:48Speaker 1: No, I'm very efficient. I'm going to move things fast.
- 9:52Speaker 2: You know. What I also loved about her is just
- 9:53Speaker 2: that insatiable drive that she has.
- 9:56Speaker 1: She still edits all of her podcasts.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Wow.
- 9:58Speaker 2: She has a big team that helped like direct it
- 10:00Speaker 2: and help her come up with the content and like
- 10:02Speaker 2: do the questions and everything, and like she practice what
- 10:04Speaker 2: she going to say. She's very prepared, but she is
- 10:07Speaker 2: so hands on every single thing that she does, and
- 10:10Speaker 2: even the way that she speaks to her team is
- 10:11Speaker 2: so beautiful, Like she's a real powerhouse businesswoman. She is
- 10:15Speaker 2: where she handled a lot of situations in that documentary
- 10:17Speaker 2: that were quite tricky and uncomfortable. She's had like a boss,
- 10:20Speaker 2: You're an epic human so hard working people could just
- 10:22Speaker 2: look on the outside and see this like quote unquote
- 10:24Speaker 2: like blonde, young girl. But she is incredibly smart, oh,
- 10:28Speaker 2: incredibly driven, and very good at what she does.
- 10:31Speaker 3: And she intentionally positioned herself in that way. She knew
- 10:35Speaker 3: it was going to spark chaos. Yes, she knew it
- 10:37Speaker 3: was going to cause a controversy, so she did that intentionally.
- 10:40Speaker 3: She even cover member, Yes, the cover photo that when
- 10:43Speaker 3: she was still doing the podcast with that other girl,
- 10:45Speaker 3: her friends that they were doing it with, she like
- 10:47Speaker 3: intentionally made them look like blow up dolls so that
- 10:50Speaker 3: she would spark yeah and get more clicks. Absolutely, she's like,
- 10:53Speaker 3: my goal of the podcast is for it to be seen.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Why would I not do everything in my power to
- 10:56Speaker 3: make sure it gets out there? And you know what's interesting,
- 10:58Speaker 3: it's like she's created that she blew up right, and
- 11:01Speaker 3: now she's had a huge rebrand. She is still so
- 11:05Speaker 3: and sexual and talks about all the things, and she
- 11:07Speaker 3: also has a really good way of asking her guests
- 11:09Speaker 3: those deeper intimate questions too. But in terms of like
- 11:12Speaker 3: who she is and how she shows up now she's
- 11:14Speaker 3: definitely rebranded. Yeah. Yeah, she's the person who interviews all
- 11:17Speaker 3: of the famous people now. Yeah, she has really good
- 11:19Speaker 3: conversations as a result, And.
- 11:21Speaker 2: I think they're so comfortable opening up about their life
- 11:23Speaker 2: and telling their story because Alex.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Has done that. She's safe.
- 11:26Speaker 2: They're not going to open up to someone that has
- 11:28Speaker 2: closed doors and then shares any of their life. Like, oh,
- 11:30Speaker 2: she's safe, she's been there, she's done worse than me. Yes,
- 11:32Speaker 2: I can talk about my life with you. You're completely safe,
- 11:35Speaker 2: like him Kardashing talking on that, she asked her some
- 11:37Speaker 2: really hard questions. A lot of people go on there
- 11:40Speaker 2: to like tell the divorce stories or just like messy
- 11:42Speaker 2: breakups and stuff because they feel safe with her.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Yes, it's beautiful. We all want more of that. We
- 11:46Speaker 1: definitely do. Very cool.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Obviously, she is like kind of one of because she's
- 11:50Speaker 3: taking lead in terms of like female podcasts. Yes, but
- 11:53Speaker 3: it was really cool to witness in her documentary the
- 11:55Speaker 3: deals that she was able to she was able to negotiate. Yeah,
- 11:59Speaker 3: the first one was a sixty million dollar deal. So
- 12:01Speaker 3: I think the first three years of her podcast, she
- 12:02Speaker 3: said she made like seventy K with her co host
- 12:06Speaker 3: with her podcast host over three years, and then after
- 12:09Speaker 3: that it went to like a sixty million dollar deal,
- 12:11Speaker 3: and the next one after that was one hundred and
- 12:12Speaker 3: twenty five million.
- 12:14Speaker 1: US for like a couple of year deal. That is insane, insane?
- 12:18Speaker 1: What is that? Does it make her like underneath your rogan?
- 12:20Speaker 1: It must be? Yeah? And not.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Not only does she have the podcast deal, she now
- 12:24Speaker 2: has the Unwell agency where she manages a ton of
- 12:27Speaker 2: other podcasts. Now she's been on tour, she has merch
- 12:30Speaker 2: Like she's not just dipping her toes in one No
- 12:32Speaker 2: One part of the business. Yes, she's making bank on
- 12:35Speaker 2: everything that she touches.
- 12:36Speaker 3: I remember in the documentary she talks about the merchandise. Yes,
- 12:39Speaker 3: and when she did the merchandise, I think they made
- 12:41Speaker 3: like millions of dollars just off the merchandise alone.
- 12:43Speaker 1: I'm not surprised. That's so cool, so freaking cool.
- 12:46Speaker 2: And the last thing I want to talk about too,
- 12:48Speaker 2: was I really loved how supportive her partner is. It's
- 12:52Speaker 2: like he doesn't care what she does, what she says.
- 12:53Speaker 2: She literally got on stage, was like I think it
- 12:55Speaker 2: was in Chicago.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Hello, Chicago, this is the exact town I got my
- 12:59Speaker 1: first STD. And he's just on the side, like, you're
- 13:03Speaker 1: doing great sweep, he's got the camera out.
- 13:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Like he is so supportive of her being her full self,
- 13:09Speaker 2: and that is beautiful because I think most people would
- 13:10Speaker 2: feel really uncomfortable that have shame. They get embarrassed, like
- 13:13Speaker 2: a couple of your wife's talking about that, and even
- 13:16Speaker 2: a mom and dad they ask them like do you
- 13:17Speaker 2: get uncomfortable, They're like, oh, no, Alex is being Alex
- 13:20Speaker 2: do a thing.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Yeah, she's loud, she's bold.
- 13:22Speaker 3: Yes.
- 13:22Speaker 1: They just let her be who she is, literally, and
- 13:24Speaker 1: like everyone's having sex, everyone's doing that. She's talking about it. Yes,
- 13:26Speaker 1: you're doing it, so true. Why are you touching her
