Ode To Autumn

"Ode To Autumn" by John Keats opens with a lush celebration of the season as a living presence — conspiring with the sun to ripen fruit, swell gourds, and fill honeybee cells to overflowing. In the second stanza, Autumn is personified as a drowsy figure asleep in a half-reaped field or patiently watching a cider-press drain its last drops. The final stanza answers the longing for spring with a quiet confidence: autumn has its own music in gnats, crickets, robins, and the twitter of gathering swallows.
