- 0:47Speaker 3: She's on the Money.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Hello and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 1:10Speaker 2: that makes personal finance fun, especially on Fridays. It is
- 1:15Speaker 2: our favorite day of the week because we get to
- 1:17Speaker 2: get together and celebrate you and my ailing voice. How beautiful.
- 1:21Speaker 2: She's on the Money Community. The incredible Miss Jess Gricci
- 1:25Speaker 2: is going to be sharing our favorite money wins. Miss
- 1:27Speaker 2: Becksayed as always, has a few cheeky broke tips lined
- 1:31Speaker 2: up for us, and we're going to be helping to
- 1:33Speaker 2: answer her money dilemma, wanting to know more about managed
- 1:36Speaker 2: portfolios and whether they're a good option and something that
- 1:39Speaker 2: you slid into our DMS about this week. What do
- 1:42Speaker 2: you do when your partner is getting a little bit
- 1:44Speaker 2: too obsessed with Black Friday? Oh mister, could you maybe
- 1:51Speaker 2: resonate with that question? Do you think Jay might be
- 1:53Speaker 2: the partner? Yes, James into the show?
- 1:57Speaker 3: Help me?
- 1:58Speaker 4: There's so many boxers.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Oh, no, you know what I feel like. That's where
- 2:03Speaker 2: me sometimes working from home has come in clutch because
- 2:06Speaker 2: I hear them come in and I just like usher
- 2:08Speaker 2: them into my office and no a package here, generally,
- 2:11Speaker 2: tell you what are you talking about? Definitely not besties
- 2:14Speaker 2: with the Postman exactly. Before I get to our question
- 2:17Speaker 2: for the team, would you guys like to hear a
- 2:19Speaker 2: little bit of a five star review? Course? All right?
- 2:22Speaker 2: This one is from med Love's photography Cute five stars.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Listening to Shares on the Money has honestly changed my
- 2:29Speaker 2: life and my whole perspective on money. I've set up
- 2:32Speaker 2: an emergency fund, started investing with shares Is. I've been
- 2:35Speaker 2: contributing extra to super to get it up to where
- 2:38Speaker 2: it should be and have a fun money account which
- 2:41Speaker 2: I stick to every week. Having this system and knowledge
- 2:44Speaker 2: of why this is all important makes me feel so
- 2:47Speaker 2: much more in control. As a millennial who had little
- 2:50Speaker 2: financial education growing up, who worked a series of casual
- 2:53Speaker 2: and part time jobs well into my thirties, I can
- 2:56Speaker 2: now say that, although I still have a lot of
- 2:58Speaker 2: catching up to do, I feel like I am very
- 3:00Speaker 2: well on my way to financial freedom. I've told all
- 3:03Speaker 2: my friends and anyone honestly who will listen about She's
- 3:07Speaker 2: on the Money, and recommended the podcast and all of
- 3:09Speaker 2: your associated books to my friends. Thank you, thank you,
- 3:12Speaker 2: thank you.
- 3:13Speaker 5: My god.
- 3:14Speaker 2: That's amazing.
- 3:14Speaker 5: That is amazing, And it sounds like that's me like
- 3:18Speaker 5: writing in like cause that's all the casual jobs, part
- 3:21Speaker 5: time jobs. It's so cool to know that you can
- 3:24Speaker 5: you can turn it around at any moment.
- 3:26Speaker 2: It's actually crazy. I didn't get in a fight. I
- 3:30Speaker 2: got in a slight disagreement with someone in some comments
- 3:34Speaker 2: online this week because someone commented on one of our
- 3:37Speaker 2: money diaries and said, oh, well, this is so unrelatable,
- 3:42Speaker 2: and I was like, but it's not, though, like if
- 3:45Speaker 2: I had a billionaire or like I showed something like
- 3:47Speaker 2: you know, maybe I was talking about, oh, well, to
- 3:49Speaker 2: create wealth, you need to have a business and you
- 3:51Speaker 2: need to do this in each that I was like, no, no, no, like,
- 3:53Speaker 2: I haven't shown something you're not capable of. And I
- 3:56Speaker 2: think I was just really defensive because I was like, God,
- 3:58Speaker 2: I've shown a single mom who's single handedly has two
- 4:02Speaker 2: jobs and like is running rings around it and still
- 4:05Speaker 2: saving and investing, and yes, it's not at the levels
- 4:07Speaker 2: she wants it to be at, but she's creating wealth herself.
- 4:10Speaker 2: And I just go, no, it might not be relatable
- 4:13Speaker 2: to your situation right now, but it's not unreally stick
- 4:16Speaker 2: And I think that's where I get a little bit frustrated,
- 4:18Speaker 2: because I'm like, there's a difference between unrelatable. You know,
- 4:21Speaker 2: you watch influences online and they're buying million dollar homes
- 4:24Speaker 2: and just like living lives that genuinely are very unrealistic
- 4:28Speaker 2: for the average person. But we're not talking usually about
- 4:31Speaker 2: that type of wealth. We're talking about, Hey, baby, if
- 4:34Speaker 2: you've got your emergency fund set up, are you investing
- 4:36Speaker 2: for the future. Have you structured? You're super? Right? Are you?
- 4:39Speaker 2: And sixty five year old? You're going to be all good?
- 4:42Speaker 2: And usually in our community, the answer if you're proactive
- 4:45Speaker 2: is yes, because you still do have to do the work.
- 4:48Speaker 2: But like five star review, thank you for sharing it
- 4:51Speaker 2: with us. But girl, you did the work.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Yeah, you've tapped a lot of things too, Like she's
- 4:55Speaker 4: investing on chances, she's done her super she's doing all
- 4:57Speaker 4: these bits and pieces right, exciting and like chie.
- 5:00Speaker 2: That you did for future you, and she's gonna thrive.
- 5:03Speaker 2: It sounds like she already is. And that's my favorite
- 5:06Speaker 2: part about our community. That's amazing time. All right, Well,
- 5:10Speaker 2: would you guys like the question of the week?
- 5:13Speaker 1: Yes?
- 5:13Speaker 2: Please? I feel like there's have been getting unhinged. So
- 5:15Speaker 2: here's me. I'm reducing this segment. I'm thinking they're gonna
- 5:18Speaker 2: ask beck on her opinion of Super. No, you guys
- 5:21Speaker 2: really just took this. You can ask us anything and
- 5:24Speaker 2: lead with it. The more the better, I say. Yeah,
- 5:27Speaker 2: it's time for our favorite part or my favorite part
- 5:29Speaker 2: of Friday Drinks, where literally you ask us questions that
- 5:33Speaker 2: you are dying to know the answer to, and it
- 5:35Speaker 2: literally can be about anything, even shopping tips like this
- 5:39Speaker 2: one from Alisha, who says, where are your girls shopping
- 5:43Speaker 2: for an affordable black tie dress?
- 5:48Speaker 4: No?
- 5:49Speaker 2: No, no, you have to go to the fanciest wedding you've
- 5:51Speaker 2: ever been to. Where are you're going shopping? I'm going
- 5:52Speaker 2: to uniclue love. But what are you picking out? Tell me?
- 5:55Speaker 2: Like the vibe if I say, and I think that
- 5:58Speaker 2: makes it easier, Like we're not just shopping for a
- 6:00Speaker 2: black tiev it. Let's say you got hearted to a
- 6:02Speaker 2: black tie wedding. You love the person, you want to
- 6:04Speaker 2: look your best. What's the outfit vibe?
- 6:07Speaker 5: I'm going a satin oversized teatly okay, sleigh, and I'm
- 6:13Speaker 5: going to do it all the way to the top.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Yeah, it's gonna be like like a button up okay,
- 6:18Speaker 2: way to the top and then oversized long pant business
- 6:22Speaker 2: pant ye ye.
- 6:23Speaker 5: With a belt and so you can I'm pretty sure
- 6:25Speaker 5: you can get. I don't know about the satin part
- 6:27Speaker 5: of this outfit.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I feel like Unicloid does do satin, yes, or you
- 6:30Speaker 2: just get a giant shirt.
- 6:32Speaker 5: Also, I never know the difference between T shirt and shirt.
- 6:34Speaker 5: I'm saying shirt with the button.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Shirt has like the collar and the button us. Okay,
- 6:38Speaker 2: shirt is like that rounded neck that you're we you
- 6:41Speaker 2: got you got to you so shirt.
- 6:43Speaker 5: And then I'm just honestly for shoes, whatever the hell
- 6:46Speaker 5: you want, because you make it up look nice. But
- 6:48Speaker 5: I think just honestly going a kmart and getting like
- 6:51Speaker 5: those school shoes.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good. You've got a pair of those. Yeah
- 6:56Speaker 2: you look shaking them. Thank you so much.
- 6:58Speaker 5: And I wouldn't be spending more than for yours, unfortunately
- 7:01Speaker 5: because they can't. But if I was going to really
- 7:03Speaker 5: really go out, I don't have a place in mind
- 7:06Speaker 5: other than Nuklo.
- 7:07Speaker 2: I'm so sorry, but I kind of love that's like
- 7:09Speaker 2: Beck showing up as Beck. Thank you. Yes, I can't,
- 7:12Speaker 2: And when the question came through, I'm like, I cannot
- 7:14Speaker 2: for the life of me. Imagine you no getting into
- 7:18Speaker 2: a black tied dress and being comfortable. Yeah, no, do that,
- 7:24Speaker 2: I'll try, Jess. Where are you shopping?
- 7:26Speaker 4: I think for the best price secondhand is the go
- 7:29Speaker 4: Facebook marketplace deepot because obviously black tie is quite formal.
- 7:34Speaker 2: My favorite.
- 7:34Speaker 4: I don't want to say it's super cheap, but you
- 7:37Speaker 4: can pick things up on sale. Meshki does a love
- 7:40Speaker 4: really great range from more casual through to what I
- 7:44Speaker 4: think is totally fine for black tie.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Now they have a whole segment on their website called
- 7:48Speaker 2: black Tie.
- 7:48Speaker 4: They don't even realize that money wim and I think
- 7:51Speaker 4: that they do sales pretty frequently. You can do cash
- 7:53Speaker 4: back and things like that to help bring cross down.
- 7:55Speaker 4: But relative to what you can find yourself spending for
- 7:58Speaker 4: black tie, I think they're quite a reasonable price point
- 8:01Speaker 4: for a lot of their pieces.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Okay, I agree. A lot of my formal dresses historically
- 8:05Speaker 2: have actually come from Chic. Oh she does gorgeous. Yeah,
- 8:09Speaker 2: and I find I don't know why you are so planned,
- 8:13Speaker 2: but like, yes, you're right deep hop, Facebook, market Place,
- 8:16Speaker 2: et cetera. Well, yeah, if you've got the time or
- 8:19Speaker 2: honestly hiring a dress. That's something that I have been
- 8:21Speaker 2: doing a lot of recently because I just know I
- 8:24Speaker 2: want a dress that I've not worn. It's black tie.
- 8:27Speaker 2: I'm sorry, I know already I'm never gonna wear it again.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I've got this one black tie dress that I bought
- 8:32Speaker 2: during UNI that honestly I wore for every single UNI
- 8:36Speaker 2: event because like, sorry, it was from Chic, which is
- 8:40Speaker 2: you know, I just always was there, but like every event,
- 8:43Speaker 2: I just wore that dress when it was like uniball
- 8:45Speaker 2: or whatever because I was like, well, I don't have
- 8:47Speaker 2: the funds to go buy a new dress, and like,
- 8:49Speaker 2: I really like this one, so I just kept wearing
- 8:51Speaker 2: and it looked really good. Not gonna lie, but yeah,
- 8:53Speaker 2: I would go chic if I didn't have the time
- 8:56Speaker 2: to source something. But you bought a formal dress not
- 9:00Speaker 2: long ago. Was it racquet Club?
- 9:01Speaker 5: Oh?
- 9:01Speaker 2: Yes, rack Club are great. Yeah, I remember you being like, gee,
- 9:05Speaker 2: this was like thirty dollars and I have no event
- 9:06Speaker 2: to wear it too, but like I just know I'm
- 9:08Speaker 2: going to get aware out of this.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:10Speaker 4: They're a consignment store, which is another really good option.
- 9:13Speaker 4: So they're in Melbourne. They have I think three locations.
- 9:15Speaker 4: I've sold stuff there to. It's great for that as well.
- 9:18Speaker 4: But yeah, similar thing like a consignment see might have luck.
- 9:20Speaker 4: And I feel like formal dresses are something that a
- 9:21Speaker 4: lot of people do sell on because you wear it
- 9:24Speaker 4: once maybe twice, and you go, oh, I don't know
- 9:26Speaker 4: that I would wear it again, So you can often
- 9:28Speaker 4: pick them up places like that really cheap.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Do you know what I would also recommend if you've
- 9:33Speaker 2: got a good friends group, which I know some of
- 9:35Speaker 2: us don't have that. But if you've got a good
- 9:38Speaker 2: friends group, shop their wardrobes. Oh yeah. Like in our
- 9:40Speaker 2: office at work, it just goes, oh my god, I've
- 9:43Speaker 2: got a wedding coming up. I'm always like, if I
- 9:44Speaker 2: have any dresses you want, you let me know, Like,
- 9:46Speaker 2: you can borrow whatever. If you've seen me on like
- 9:49Speaker 2: on Instagram in it or like, you know it's in
- 9:50Speaker 2: my wardrobe. It's fair game. Like I just love the
- 9:53Speaker 2: idea that my cost per wear is being brought down
- 9:55Speaker 2: by other people as well. I've done a few Victoria
- 9:57Speaker 2: Divine specials over the years. Yeah, but like, I don't know.
- 10:00Speaker 2: It's so funny because I know some people who'd be like, oh,
- 10:03Speaker 2: I'd never lend out my wardrobe. I get such joy
- 10:06Speaker 2: out of the fact that I picked a dress. I
- 10:08Speaker 2: loved it. But then like Jess didn't just go oh
- 10:10Speaker 2: yeah that was pretty nice Bee, She's like, can I
- 10:13Speaker 2: borrow it? Yes, Queen, looks so good on you too,
- 10:17Speaker 2: Like I love that you loved it too. Yeah, that
- 10:19Speaker 2: is a good feeling. Yeah, sorrying's a great tip. You're borrowing.
- 10:22Speaker 2: We're borrowing dresses. From our friends. Honestly borrowing silk shirts
- 10:26Speaker 2: from our friends. Absolutely ten out of ten. I feel
- 10:29Speaker 2: like we've nailed that question. Would you like to get
- 10:31Speaker 2: into the money, wins and confessions of this week, Jessica,
- 10:34Speaker 2: I would love.
- 10:34Speaker 4: To, if that's all right. I'm going to start off
- 10:36Speaker 4: this week with one from Hannah. She's actually paid off
- 10:38Speaker 4: and closed her after pay after having to rye on
- 10:41Speaker 4: it for the last couple of years. It felt really
- 10:43Speaker 4: bloody good, Queen and everyone else who's doing the same thing.
- 10:47Speaker 4: It's greats to money went from Claire, who said she
- 10:49Speaker 4: went to Ikea to buy a chair cover. After picking
- 10:52Speaker 4: one up, she passed through the as e Is section
- 10:54Speaker 4: on her way out and found the exact same one
- 10:56Speaker 4: there for half of the price. The Aussiest section is
- 10:59Speaker 4: my favorite set at Ika if they're right by the
- 11:01Speaker 4: checkout and it's where they sell all the stuff that
- 11:03Speaker 4: was in the display rooms. I assembled properly by like
- 11:07Speaker 4: someone who works in Ikia knows how to do it,
- 11:09Speaker 4: and it's like it hasn't been used, it's just been
- 11:10Speaker 4: sitting there.
- 11:11Speaker 2: That's so good. My favorite part of Ikea is the
- 11:13Speaker 2: cafeteria where you can get the meatballs absolutely.
- 11:16Speaker 4: After we spoke about it, maybe a month or two ago,
- 11:18Speaker 4: I went and got meatballs.
- 11:19Speaker 2: For Did she actually stop it? It's so close to
- 11:23Speaker 2: the studio. I'm so jealous. We can do it today.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Didn't invite us? I know what the hell, let's do
- 11:28Speaker 2: it today. Thats not your kids? We all secretly because
- 11:32Speaker 2: I was going to go too. But if we all
- 11:33Speaker 2: ready each other, let's do it after this, let's hear
- 11:35Speaker 2: it after this. That sounds fair? Th mexticot.
- 11:38Speaker 4: A money went from Jessica excellent name, who said a
- 11:40Speaker 4: bit of an old one, but her favorite spin studio
- 11:44Speaker 4: ran a specialty class and then afterwards took all the
- 11:46Speaker 4: women to Lulu Lemon to get a.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Free pair of leggings.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Sorry, what she said, pretty epic return on a thirty
- 11:52Speaker 4: five dollar class. She'd never normally spend that much money
- 11:54Speaker 4: on a pair of leggings. What I'd like to sign
- 11:57Speaker 4: up for this class?
- 11:58Speaker 2: Please? Sorry? How do we get in on? That sounds slight?
- 12:01Speaker 2: I love a little still them they all just went
- 12:04Speaker 2: in and just like a HIJACKX you imagine. No, No,
- 12:08Speaker 2: we don't do that, Yeah we do, we don't. Lastly,
- 12:11Speaker 2: this week, I've got a money win from Adriana who
- 12:14Speaker 2: said her car insurance was to you. She asked them
- 12:16Speaker 2: to lower the annual price due to her having three
- 12:18Speaker 2: separate policies with them, so they did it by fifty dollars,
- 12:21Speaker 2: which put it back to the same price as last year.
- 12:23Speaker 2: They said they were going to resent her the policy.
- 12:25Speaker 2: They didn't resent her the policy, so she followed up
- 12:28Speaker 2: and they took another sixty bucks off for the inconvenience win.
- 12:31Speaker 2: It pays to be inconvenience sometimes. Absolutely. Learning from this
- 12:35Speaker 2: absolutely that's everything for me. This I love that. Miss
- 12:38Speaker 2: becksay ed, what have you got when it comes to
- 12:40Speaker 2: broke tips? So this week I got a couple of
- 12:43Speaker 2: good ones. The first one comes from Katya. She says
- 12:46Speaker 2: that if you hit escape really.
- 12:48Speaker 5: Quickly when you're going to like read an article and
- 12:51Speaker 5: a pay wall comes up escape, if you hit escape
- 12:53Speaker 5: really quickly, then you can sometimes avoid the paywall. And
- 12:56Speaker 5: so our gorgeous producer did some research on this and
- 12:59Speaker 5: it is true. Quickly eating the escape key upon a
- 13:02Speaker 5: page loading can sometimes prevent a paywall from appearing by
- 13:05Speaker 5: interrupting the pages loading process, which I.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Know is like it depends on the it depends on.
- 13:10Speaker 5: The side, like I do feel bad, like I don't
- 13:12Speaker 5: want to steal content, but also like why can't I
- 13:15Speaker 5: just read the article?
- 13:18Speaker 1: You know?
- 13:18Speaker 2: Personal peppe is news behind a paywall.
- 13:20Speaker 4: If you are a creator putting totally out, Oh yeah,
- 13:23Speaker 4: I think you suck.
- 13:26Speaker 2: No, not at all, but like, yeah, the nature of
- 13:28Speaker 2: what it is news should be for public consumption. I agree,
- 13:31Speaker 2: I agree. I don't know. That's my hot take. I
- 13:33Speaker 2: completely share another one that I may or may not use.
- 13:37Speaker 2: So the second it starts loading, I can't control a
- 13:40Speaker 2: control C, so like can select everything control C. I've
- 13:45Speaker 2: copied it because then, as you guys probably know, you
- 13:47Speaker 2: can start reading the article and then the pop up
- 13:49Speaker 2: comes up. So if you can get that control a
- 13:51Speaker 2: control C before that happens, I then cut and paste
- 13:55Speaker 2: it into a word document and read it on my
- 13:56Speaker 2: own computer. Oh my god, I haven't tried the escape thing.
- 14:05Speaker 2: I didn't even know what the escape key did, so
- 14:06Speaker 2: I'm going to give that a crack as well. But
- 14:09Speaker 2: that has been my hack for reading paywalled articles that
- 14:13Speaker 2: maybe or I didn't want to pay massive God that
- 14:17Speaker 2: what you will. We're not telling you how to live
- 14:19Speaker 2: your life. We're just kidding. Do you think that's ethical.
- 14:21Speaker 2: That's totally okay. Don't do it completely because we wouldn't.
- 14:26Speaker 2: We're not doing it. We're not going to do it.
- 14:28Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:28Speaker 2: I mean when I say I do it, I was
- 14:30Speaker 2: just making a suggestion that I might be able to
- 14:33Speaker 2: do it. Yes, it's a clever idea that you haven't
- 14:35Speaker 2: tried yet. Yeah, as somebody who writes for a publication,
- 14:38Speaker 2: who often puts my articles behind paywalls, I'd hate for
- 14:42Speaker 2: you to have that information absolutely because you don't write
- 14:45Speaker 2: that for just anyone. Yeah. Well, there you go, and so.
- 14:48Speaker 4: There you go.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Okay. The next one comes from Lisa.
- 14:53Speaker 5: So this was like a thread asking for holiday saving STIPs,
- 14:56Speaker 5: and I thought this was really interesting.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Lisa said that she does a supermarket cleaning collect.
- 14:59Speaker 5: Or delivery order before she leaves, like the health, the
- 15:02Speaker 5: accommodation she's saying it, or like a holiday when she's
- 15:05Speaker 5: going on holiday exactly, so she only has to eat
- 15:08Speaker 5: out once a day. That means that she doesn't have
- 15:10Speaker 5: the option of like deciding not to go shopping when
- 15:12Speaker 5: she gets there, and she doesn't have to waste the
- 15:14Speaker 5: time doing the shopping as well, she can just like
- 15:17Speaker 5: enjoy her holiday so I'm like, trick yourself into like
- 15:21Speaker 5: doing like yeah, like a click and collect or like
- 15:22Speaker 5: a delivery order or something like.
- 15:24Speaker 2: It's a really great idea. Every time we've ever gotten
- 15:26Speaker 2: you guys already probably know this, but every time I've
- 15:29Speaker 2: gone on holidays with Jess, I'm like, so, where's the
- 15:32Speaker 2: new a supermarket? Not gonna lie. If we're traveling internationally,
- 15:35Speaker 2: I don't want to do click and collect. I want
- 15:37Speaker 2: to Yeah, that's inexperience going through an international market, getting
- 15:43Speaker 2: to see their cereal aisles, like what brands they have
- 15:46Speaker 2: like for me, that's part of the holiday. I love it.
- 15:48Speaker 2: I love it. I'm always like, oh, do you want
- 15:50Speaker 2: to go into that supermarket? Do you want to go
- 15:51Speaker 2: into that deli? Like, maybe I'm not the person you
- 15:53Speaker 2: want to travel with, but yeah, I always go get
- 15:56Speaker 2: like a cereal and a coffee option for the mornings,
- 15:59Speaker 2: for sure. I don't want to eat out every single meal. No,
- 16:02Speaker 2: I know it is quite experienced.
- 16:04Speaker 5: I always look for the grocery store wherever I am,
- 16:06Speaker 5: even if I'm with in Australia. Something about being and
- 16:09Speaker 5: woolies is so companying. This next one is from Jess Ricky.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Actually, if you don't mind. So we put a whole
- 16:19Speaker 2: thread in our Facebook group every single week so that
- 16:22Speaker 2: our community can share. And then you just go, yeah,
- 16:25Speaker 2: just give me, give me hot I think I know
- 16:27Speaker 2: what this one is and it is a good one.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Oh it's crazy. She's got tickets on this too.
- 16:30Speaker 5: Yeah, it is right right, you know what that's actually
- 16:33Speaker 5: pun and you'll soon figure out why. So to celebrate
- 16:37Speaker 5: the opening of the Metro Tunnel, two months of free
- 16:39Speaker 5: travel will apply every Saturday and Sunday from early December
- 16:43Speaker 5: twenty twenty five to the first of February twenty twenty
- 16:46Speaker 5: six for all public transport within Victoria. Isn't that amazing?
- 16:50Speaker 2: That is actually very cool? And now my ticket comment
- 16:53Speaker 2: does make sense, makes a lot of sense. No ticket required,
- 16:56Speaker 2: you guys, that is a money win. Could we make
- 16:59Speaker 2: it a little bit better? Like, can can you have
- 17:01Speaker 2: your people call my people or something and talk about
- 17:03Speaker 2: extending that for like even a week so that everyone
- 17:06Speaker 2: can save on their my keys for work and then
- 17:09Speaker 2: like really stash some extra cash. Lovely, I don't know
- 17:12Speaker 2: about the weekend. I'll take what I can get. I
- 17:14Speaker 2: want to be greedy, but also I'm really greedy.
- 17:16Speaker 5: I think like, either never end it just weekends forever free,
- 17:21Speaker 5: I would think, or yeah, make it like the whole
- 17:23Speaker 5: week for a few months.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Yeah. I also reckon that the Victorian Premier should call
- 17:27Speaker 2: the Queensland Premier and they should talk. Yes, because for
- 17:31Speaker 2: those of you not following, Queensland get fifty cent public
- 17:34Speaker 2: trans yes. Do they rude? Right? Very nice? I know,
- 17:38Speaker 2: I know, well fair enough. I have your people call
- 17:41Speaker 2: their people and their people tell you how to do
- 17:43Speaker 2: your job.
- 17:43Speaker 5: It really makes me upset and I'm not going to
- 17:45Speaker 5: linger on this for too long. But people that are
- 17:47Speaker 5: already struggling to get by and then they're like, oh cool,
- 17:49Speaker 5: I finally found a job.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Oh it's going to cost me fifty dollars a week
- 17:52Speaker 2: to get there and you don't have the cash, and like,
- 17:55Speaker 2: you don't have it, just give us public transport for
- 17:57Speaker 2: free during a week, yeah, because I feel like that
- 18:00Speaker 2: take a lot of pressure off a lot of people. Absolutely,
- 18:03Speaker 2: or just do it for fifty cents. Sorry, why can
- 18:05Speaker 2: Queensland do it exactly?
- 18:06Speaker 5: And actually, you know what we'll pay on the weekends
- 18:09Speaker 5: during the week. No, we try to take my taxes.
- 18:12Speaker 5: And that's my vergue tip for this week.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Do you know what, that's a really good one. I
- 18:15Speaker 2: will allow the fact that you got Jess to do
- 18:17Speaker 2: your job. Thank you Jess anytime. Okay, don't cut this out.
- 18:23Speaker 2: That is naughty. I actually like your opinion. Beck, stop
- 18:25Speaker 2: trying to steal Jess. Yes, Sam, or let's go to
- 18:28Speaker 2: a really quick break because on the flip side, we're
- 18:30Speaker 2: going to be talking about a money dilemma. Wanting to
- 18:32Speaker 2: know more about managed portfolios not managed funds, and something
- 18:37Speaker 2: that you slid into our DMS about what do you
- 18:40Speaker 2: do when your partner is getting a little bit too
- 18:42Speaker 2: obsessed with Black Friday? And it's definitely not from Jess's partner,
- 18:45Speaker 2: So you'll see you on the flip side. Guy.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Welcome back, everybody. Let's take a listen to this week's
- 18:54Speaker 4: money dilemma.
- 18:57Speaker 6: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma you just
- 18:59Speaker 6: can't solve? The She's on the Money team is here
- 19:02Speaker 6: to help. Every week, we tackle your dilemmas, both big
- 19:05Speaker 6: and small, to answer your most burning money, career and
- 19:08Speaker 6: life questions. To get involved, simply head to our website
- 19:11Speaker 6: and leave us a short voice recording and you might
- 19:13Speaker 6: just find yourself on the show. Now, let's take a
- 19:16Speaker 6: listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 19:20Speaker 7: Hi, she's on the money. I have a question regarding
- 19:22Speaker 7: our favorite topic of investing. I currently have two different
- 19:26Speaker 7: apps for investing. I have a Chez's account and Better
- 19:29Speaker 7: Shares account. With the Chas's, I'll just have a few
- 19:32Speaker 7: ETFs and direct shares that I put money into when
- 19:35Speaker 7: I can, and the Beta shares are recently opened up
- 19:38Speaker 7: a high growth managed portfolio and I aim to put
- 19:41Speaker 7: two to three hundred a month into that. My question is,
- 19:44Speaker 7: are these managed portfolios actually worth it? I pay three
- 19:47Speaker 7: dollars a month. I know that changes per platform, per portfolio,
- 19:51Speaker 7: and how much you've gotten it, but I was doing
- 19:53Speaker 7: a bit of overreading, we would say, a bit of
- 19:55Speaker 7: analysis paralysis into these managed portfolios, and people say that
- 19:59Speaker 7: it it is not worth it, and you can just
- 20:01Speaker 7: kind of buy their ETFs or shares yourself.
- 20:03Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 20:04Speaker 7: I just wanted to know what your thoughts are on
- 20:05Speaker 7: these managed profolos and if they're were it.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Thanks? I love this. I think that's a really good
- 20:10Speaker 2: question because like, these managed portfolios online are incredibly transparent,
- 20:15Speaker 2: so you can go to and she mentioned Beta shares
- 20:18Speaker 2: and I've just gone to their website, just to make
- 20:20Speaker 2: sure that I've got, you know, a really good handle
- 20:23Speaker 2: of what's going on. And it reminds me a lot
- 20:26Speaker 2: of our friends at Life Sirpa. They do something really
- 20:29Speaker 2: really similar. I feel like they might hold your hand
- 20:31Speaker 2: a little bit more than just a Beta shares like
- 20:33Speaker 2: managed portfolio. But anyway, we can get back to that.
- 20:36Speaker 2: We can talk about that later. But the cool thing
- 20:38Speaker 2: about this is, yes, you could go in today and
- 20:42Speaker 2: replicate the beta shares platform, like you could log in,
- 20:45Speaker 2: go have a look at their website exactly like I am.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Have a look at their managed portfolios. They are super transparent.
- 20:51Speaker 2: They're like, okay, cool. If you're an aggressive investor, these
- 20:53Speaker 2: are the ETFs we would pick with you. The problem
- 20:56Speaker 2: with you going in and going, well, I don't want
- 20:58Speaker 2: the fees. I don't want to be associated with that.
- 21:00Speaker 2: I wanted, you know, do it myself. That's fantastic. You
- 21:03Speaker 2: could absolutely do that. But the managed portfolio part means
- 21:06Speaker 2: they ongoingly manage the rebalancing the construction of that portfolio.
- 21:12Speaker 2: They are going to choose when an ETF exits your portfolio.
- 21:16Speaker 2: So if they're like, oh, this one's not performing as well,
- 21:18Speaker 2: we're going to drop that out. They're going to pick
- 21:19Speaker 2: up another option and just put it into your portfolio
- 21:22Speaker 2: without you lifting a finger. So today, yes, they are
- 21:26Speaker 2: being very transparent on what they would pick, but that
- 21:29Speaker 2: doesn't mean it wouldn't change and be ongoingly managed. And
- 21:32Speaker 2: the fees are reflective of that. So that's why people
- 21:35Speaker 2: might ask questions like, oh, you could just do yourself.
- 21:38Speaker 2: You totally could. I do it myself. But every single
- 21:41Speaker 2: six months ish, I go back in and I analyze
- 21:44Speaker 2: every single one of my ETFs and I make sure
- 21:47Speaker 2: that they're performing the way I want. You know, I
- 21:49Speaker 2: might sell down some to rebalance it over because I have.
- 21:52Speaker 2: And we've spoken about this before, and this is probably
- 21:54Speaker 2: a good plug to go back and listen to the
- 21:56Speaker 2: episode that I did with Brooke on her investing portfolio.
- 22:00Speaker 2: We talk about how we have It's basically a pie chart,
- 22:04Speaker 2: and I know that I want fifty percent of my
- 22:06Speaker 2: portfolio in this particular asset, and then I break up
- 22:08Speaker 2: the rest of my portfolio across different assets. And then
- 22:11Speaker 2: every six months, I get that pie chat out and
- 22:13Speaker 2: I sit it in front of me and look at
- 22:14Speaker 2: my portfolio and go, is this still replicated? Am I
- 22:18Speaker 2: still comfortable with this breakdown, Do I want any changes?
- 22:21Speaker 2: And then, because the market always ebbs and flows, like, yes,
- 22:25Speaker 2: I have for this period of time invested fifty percent
- 22:29Speaker 2: of the amount I invest into that ETF. But let's
- 22:32Speaker 2: pretend it performed really well. Okay, Now my portfolio is
- 22:35Speaker 2: actually more than fifty percent of that ETF because it's
- 22:38Speaker 2: been performing so well, and I have a dividend reinvestment plan,
- 22:41Speaker 2: so I often will make the decision to sell down
- 22:44Speaker 2: some of that stock and redistribute it into the other
- 22:47Speaker 2: parts of my portfolio so I can maintain the percentages
- 22:50Speaker 2: I have chosen. They do that for you, Yeah, so
- 22:53Speaker 2: they're going to have the finger on the pulse and
- 22:54Speaker 2: all you have to do is keep sending money their way.
- 22:56Speaker 2: They are going to charge a fee for that service,
- 22:59Speaker 2: but for most people, that is a fee that is
- 23:02Speaker 2: worthy of paying. And I won't talk about beta shares specifically,
- 23:06Speaker 2: that's just what this community member has written in about.
- 23:09Speaker 2: But there are lots of different managed portfolio options on
- 23:12Speaker 2: the market where they say, hey, JS, we'll manage it
- 23:16Speaker 2: for you. Yeah, and like to me, if you don't
- 23:19Speaker 2: want to have as high a touch option as you know,
- 23:22Speaker 2: when I go into my shares is account and I
- 23:23Speaker 2: have to look at my portfolio and go, oh, what's
- 23:25Speaker 2: that looking like? Perfect? Some of us don't want that,
- 23:29Speaker 2: but we want that middle ground between. Well, I'd love
- 23:33Speaker 2: to do it myself because I love the idea of
- 23:34Speaker 2: those fees. I don't want to go see a financial
- 23:37Speaker 2: advisor because I don't want to pay those fees, but
- 23:39Speaker 2: I still want more support than DII. Does that make sense, Yeah, totally.
- 23:43Speaker 4: Yeah. My only thing with the an issue that I
- 23:45Speaker 4: would just flag is that I think the beta shares
- 23:47Speaker 4: one from a cursory look, I'm not super familiar with
- 23:50Speaker 4: it personally, but I think it's just ETFs they manage.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's just what they've constructed their portfolio of.
- 23:55Speaker 2: For some other managed funds, you might find that they
- 23:59Speaker 2: are a managed fund and they hold twelve different direct
- 24:01Speaker 2: shares that they manage, and they would chop and change
- 24:03Speaker 2: out of that, and it would really depend on the
- 24:06Speaker 2: company issuing them. I'm not surprised, and I quite like
- 24:09Speaker 2: Beta shares as a business. They are fantastic. But if
- 24:13Speaker 2: you've not heard of them before, they are one of
- 24:15Speaker 2: the biggest issuers of ETFs in Australia. So they've clearly seen, well,
- 24:19Speaker 2: we construct ETFs all the time, let's put this product
- 24:22Speaker 2: over the top and have a different team pick from
- 24:25Speaker 2: basically all our ETFs to create a portfolio that ongoingly
- 24:30Speaker 2: is managed for a client. It's good business from them
- 24:33Speaker 2: from my perspective. But then the other thing I would
- 24:36Speaker 2: say there is if you're going to go to a
- 24:40Speaker 2: beta shares, it's like going and seeing a mortgage broker
- 24:42Speaker 2: who works for a bank. So you're only going to
- 24:45Speaker 2: get beta shares ETF options. They're not going to go
- 24:47Speaker 2: pick a vanguard option because that's not in their best interests.
- 24:51Speaker 2: So that's where if you're looking at this and going, oh,
- 24:53Speaker 2: that actually sounds really good, v Like, I love the
- 24:55Speaker 2: managed portfolio idea, but you're going to go direct to
- 24:59Speaker 2: an ETF, I can guarantee all of their managed portfolios
- 25:03Speaker 2: are just made up of different selections of their product.
- 25:06Speaker 2: You're not getting the whole market, whereas a product like
- 25:08Speaker 2: life Sherpa would be able to actually just they might
- 25:12Speaker 2: have a beta shares, they might have a vanguard that
- 25:14Speaker 2: might be looking at a black rock over here, and
- 25:16Speaker 2: they kind of take everything on the market and then
- 25:19Speaker 2: construct your managed portfolio.
- 25:20Speaker 4: Yeah, and they're a nice middle ground two in terms
- 25:22Speaker 4: of price point because they don't do like a full
- 25:25Speaker 4: written advice and it doesn't come with the expense that
- 25:28Speaker 4: we know is really prohibitive.
- 25:29Speaker 2: To a lot of people.
- 25:29Speaker 4: Whereas you know the way that they do it. They
- 25:32Speaker 4: do a little bit of robo but they also have
- 25:33Speaker 4: people there that you can pick up the phone and
- 25:35Speaker 4: speak to. So it's a little bit of a step
- 25:37Speaker 4: further than the managed fund with beta shares, where I
- 25:40Speaker 4: think you just buy it, or any managed fund, you
- 25:42Speaker 4: just buy it and you know, let it tick away
- 25:44Speaker 4: in the background. Sometimes you know, people want a person there.
- 25:47Speaker 4: So that makes it a really good I guess next
- 25:49Speaker 4: stepping option across the spectrum.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Yeah, and the last thing I want you guys to
- 25:53Speaker 2: take from that is like, oh, the beta shares is
- 25:55Speaker 2: not a good option. It is, but that's why I
- 25:58Speaker 2: want you to look at all of your options on
- 25:59Speaker 2: the table, but then also have the pros and cons,
- 26:02Speaker 2: Like beta shares do great ETFs, they have really good performance,
- 26:06Speaker 2: they have a really good track record. They may have
- 26:08Speaker 2: top five every year, yeah, but they're always in our
- 26:10Speaker 2: top five. I've met with so many people on their
- 26:13Speaker 2: team before they are so delightful. But it would be
- 26:17Speaker 2: a miss of me to not be really pragmatic about going. Okay, cool,
- 26:20Speaker 2: but it is like going direct to the bank for
- 26:22Speaker 2: a loan and not looking for the rest of the
- 26:25Speaker 2: options that might be on the table that maybe suit
- 26:27Speaker 2: you a little bit better. But you could also go.
- 26:30Speaker 2: But I really like be I'm the same as you.
- 26:32Speaker 2: I really trust them, I'm miss I'm that. So you
- 26:34Speaker 2: just go with the beta shares option. It's not necessarily
- 26:37Speaker 2: going to impact your performance because every ETF issue are
- 26:41Speaker 2: is going to construct them in a way where they're
- 26:43Speaker 2: trying to perform their best too. Yeah, so is it
- 26:45Speaker 2: the worst? No, But I also want you to have
- 26:48Speaker 2: like the black and the white and make the decision
- 26:51Speaker 2: for yourself. I'm not going to be like, yep, fantastic option,
- 26:53Speaker 2: off you go. Yeah, but yeah, you'll never get that
- 26:56Speaker 2: from me. I'm so sorry. No, it's so fair.
- 26:57Speaker 5: That's great advice. I this is in my wheelhouse. But
- 27:03Speaker 5: I trust everything you say. Oh thanks, babe, always haven't
- 27:07Speaker 5: always will.
- 27:08Speaker 2: The next ones for you? Don't you? Would you like
- 27:11Speaker 2: to hear the next one? Absolutely? All right, So we're
- 27:14Speaker 2: going to slide on into our DMS and read out
- 27:17Speaker 2: one of the spiciest ones we got this week, which surprisingly,
- 27:21Speaker 2: my favorite part about this is it's anonymous for you
- 27:23Speaker 2: guys and every single one of our listeners. I know
- 27:26Speaker 2: who you are already looked at your Instagram profile. It's James.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Imagine that's where I go and to ruin our own fun,
- 27:33Speaker 2: Beck was it wasn't James. But that's okay, so hey,
- 27:38Speaker 2: she's on the money. I'm starting to get anxious about
- 27:40Speaker 2: Black Friday. Normally, my partner and I are on exactly
- 27:43Speaker 2: the same page with money. We share finances and we're
- 27:46Speaker 2: not big spenders. We've got other goals that we're currently
- 27:48Speaker 2: working towards. But it's like something flips in him every
- 27:53Speaker 2: single year. Every time something he wants comes up, he says,
- 27:57Speaker 2: I'm going to add it to the Black Friday list,
- 27:58Speaker 2: and then his lips get out of control. I get
- 28:02Speaker 2: that technically we save money if we shop during Black Friday,
- 28:05Speaker 2: but to me, the list is not essential things that
- 28:08Speaker 2: we actually need. I don't want to come across as
- 28:11Speaker 2: controlling or like I'm telling him what he can and
- 28:13Speaker 2: can't spend money on. But I also feel like he's
- 28:15Speaker 2: falling right into what the sales are designed to make
- 28:18Speaker 2: us do, which is overspend. How do I get him
- 28:21Speaker 2: to see that? And what would you do for you?
- 28:23Speaker 4: And me?
- 28:24Speaker 2: Well, how the tables have turned?
- 28:26Speaker 3: Who and I love it?
- 28:27Speaker 2: You're like, the guy's the bigger spender. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 28:30Speaker 2: that's a silly little girl thing. Men do it too, Absolutely.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Men spend money and they go, oh, good on you, mate,
- 28:36Speaker 2: you deserved that, or good investment. I spend a boat frivolous. Yeah, okay,
- 28:42Speaker 2: So what would I do?
- 28:43Speaker 5: I think, first of all, the fact that this person
- 28:45Speaker 5: has enough self control, your partner has enough self control
- 28:49Speaker 5: to be like, I'm going to add this to the
- 28:51Speaker 5: list of things that I want to buy when it's
- 28:53Speaker 5: really heavily reduced. I think that is incredible. It's an
- 28:56Speaker 5: incredible place to start. But I also think, like, in
- 28:59Speaker 5: the it probably feels like there are things that you
- 29:01Speaker 5: guys don't need, but like maybe because there are so
- 29:04Speaker 5: many things that bring us joy, and the fact that
- 29:07Speaker 5: he's putting these on a like in a list of
- 29:10Speaker 5: things to buy in the future means that it's very likely.
- 29:14Speaker 5: I don't know if this happens, because you see, you
- 29:15Speaker 5: do seem to be worried that it's all all everything
- 29:18Speaker 5: in the list is staying in the list. But I
- 29:20Speaker 5: think if you spend you kind of wait a long time,
- 29:22Speaker 5: like as you say, VD, like leave twenty four hours
- 29:25Speaker 5: between you and your purchase, then you kind of end
- 29:29Speaker 5: up being like, oh, I don't really need that anyway.
- 29:30Speaker 5: So I feel like having a list of things that
- 29:33Speaker 5: are just like luxury items is a good idea to
- 29:34Speaker 5: have anyway, because it's probably they're probably not all going
- 29:38Speaker 5: to make it when it comes to Black Friday time.
- 29:40Speaker 5: But I think like allow each other those little treasures
- 29:44Speaker 5: and honestly thank your lucky goddamn stars that they are
- 29:48Speaker 5: not like me, and just like, oh my god, I
- 29:50Speaker 5: want that. I'm going to buy that right now. I
- 29:52Speaker 5: don't even care to take a line of credit out.
- 29:54Speaker 5: I don't have to get a credit card or after pay.
- 29:57Speaker 2: I do not care. There's nothing that's stopping me from
- 30:00Speaker 2: And then Matt go back up, we're working on that
- 30:01Speaker 2: right now.
- 30:03Speaker 8: No judgment, Yeah, I would just say, but obviously, like
- 30:06Speaker 8: if these things are like if it's kind of gotten
- 30:08Speaker 8: to the point where it's like I don't care if
- 30:09Speaker 8: it financially ruins us, I'm buying these at Black Friday,
- 30:12Speaker 8: no matter what.
- 30:13Speaker 2: That's a different story. But if it's like.
- 30:15Speaker 5: They're not going to financially cripple us, it's just like, hey,
- 30:17Speaker 5: you don't need to be like buying these luxury items.
- 30:19Speaker 2: We don't need them.
- 30:21Speaker 5: Then you know, maybe whittle it down to two or
- 30:25Speaker 5: three things that bring you joy and then just stick
- 30:27Speaker 5: with those per year. But I wouldn't worry too much personally.
- 30:31Speaker 2: I would be interested to know. I want to see
- 30:33Speaker 2: the list. I'm so desperate. I would love to see
- 30:35Speaker 2: the list.
- 30:35Speaker 4: I totally agree our listeners on the money in the
- 30:37Speaker 4: sense when they say that, you know, the marketing sales.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Periods are designed.
- 30:41Speaker 4: You know, they're built with strategies that utilize psychology and
- 30:44Speaker 4: things like that to make us spend as much money
- 30:46Speaker 4: as possible. Like, let's be really upfront, that's the ultimate
- 30:48Speaker 4: goal of all of these companies is to sell as
- 30:50Speaker 4: much product as they can and make as much money
- 30:52Speaker 4: as they.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Can, and they're doing it really well. It do me
- 30:54Speaker 2: really well.
- 30:55Speaker 4: I think that, as we have said on the show
- 30:57Speaker 4: many times, you can utilize these sales to your advantage.
- 31:00Speaker 4: Something that you are going to buy anyway, whether it's
- 31:02Speaker 4: a necessity, whether it is a little treaty treat we
- 31:04Speaker 4: were talking about, like the Ninja products on like.
- 31:06Speaker 2: The Amazon Prime Day sales.
- 31:07Speaker 4: If that's something that you knew was on you know,
- 31:09Speaker 4: Christmas list for the kids or something like that, and
- 31:11Speaker 4: you were going to make the purchase anyway, it does
- 31:13Speaker 4: make sense to buy it on sale. What I would
- 31:15Speaker 4: be interested to know is is your husband keeping this
- 31:19Speaker 4: list throughout the year not spending incidentally throughout the youngs
- 31:24Speaker 4: fun money is banking up and going hard during Black Friday,
- 31:28Speaker 4: because in that instance, I actually think that it may
- 31:31Speaker 4: not be so bad. And the way that you can
- 31:32Speaker 4: crash check this is do you have a budget. If
- 31:34Speaker 4: you have a budget, do you have fun money allocated?
- 31:37Speaker 4: If you do, you maybe spending your fun money every month,
- 31:40Speaker 4: Like this's what I do. I we have a certain
- 31:42Speaker 4: amount that I say I can spend this every month,
- 31:44Speaker 4: and I do.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Every month I spend it. She's really good at it. Actually,
- 31:48Speaker 2: we talk about it in the office like the other
- 31:50Speaker 2: day one of our team members, because we've been on
- 31:52Speaker 2: work trips and like in and out of the office
- 31:54Speaker 2: a lot recently. She's like, be my fun money from
- 31:57Speaker 2: the last few weeks has banked up now I have
- 32:00Speaker 2: extra fun money dream and now I have analysis paralysis
- 32:03Speaker 2: over how I can spend it.
- 32:05Speaker 4: That's what I mean, right, So if he had fun
- 32:06Speaker 4: money throughout the year and he wasn't spending it, yeah,
- 32:09Speaker 4: you know, if you guys don't have a firm budget
- 32:11Speaker 4: system in place, it might be a little bit harder
- 32:13Speaker 4: to track.
- 32:14Speaker 2: But I would just keep that as a consideration because.
- 32:16Speaker 4: I think if one of you is maybe spending within
- 32:19Speaker 4: your means throughout the year and one of you isn't,
- 32:21Speaker 4: it's not the worst thing. If that's all then being
- 32:23Speaker 4: spent during sale time. If that's not the case, then
- 32:26Speaker 4: he has just gone a little bit buck while going whoa,
- 32:28Speaker 4: it's all on sale, which, like I mean, we've all
- 32:30Speaker 4: been there. I think it is just a matter of
- 32:32Speaker 4: maybe sitting him down, running the numbers a little bit.
- 32:35Speaker 2: I feel like that's what I always come back to you.
- 32:36Speaker 2: I just want to know what's on the list, Like
- 32:38Speaker 2: only you're not saying it's essential, but like why is
- 32:41Speaker 2: it on a list ongoingly? It's not like an impulse
- 32:45Speaker 2: purchase from the way that you've written it. It's like
- 32:47Speaker 2: a list that he's been tracking, like it might be
- 32:50Speaker 2: you know, like Jess the Ninja and you really really
- 32:53Speaker 2: want it. It's been your list for ages and you've
- 32:54Speaker 2: been thinking about it and thinking about it, and you're like, no,
- 32:56Speaker 2: I'm happy to spend that couple of hundred dollars and
- 32:59Speaker 2: I want to get the best steal. Is that what
- 33:01Speaker 2: it is? Or is it just like he just sees
- 33:03Speaker 2: it as free money and he's been making this laundry
- 33:06Speaker 2: list of luxury products you guys genuinely do not need
- 33:08Speaker 2: and you don't even know if he's going to use them,
- 33:10Speaker 2: and he doesn't check the list twice. He's like, I'm
- 33:12Speaker 2: just going to buy the list when it comes up,
- 33:14Speaker 2: Like I want to know the mentality around that. But
- 33:17Speaker 2: same as Jess, Like what's your budget look like? And
- 33:21Speaker 2: what does your fun money allocated look like? And maybe
- 33:24Speaker 2: we're not even questioning the list, Like maybe we're sitting
- 33:26Speaker 2: down and being like, hey, like we're planning on doing
- 33:28Speaker 2: some spending in the future or around Black Friday, Like
- 33:32Speaker 2: what do we actually have budgeted for this? Like what
- 33:35Speaker 2: off the list can we afford to get or not?
- 33:38Speaker 2: As opposed to like breaking down his list in his
- 33:40Speaker 2: middle ground, only carefully curated for a specific purchase and
- 33:45Speaker 2: you know, you might come to the conclusion together. You
- 33:47Speaker 2: know what, you don't need a new TV. You already
- 33:49Speaker 2: have a TV and that one works really well. But
- 33:52Speaker 2: to him it might be a more of a priority
- 33:54Speaker 2: than you thought it was, So I don't think breaking
- 33:56Speaker 2: down the list first is maybe the wisest decision. Then
- 34:00Speaker 2: you're telling him kind of that his values aren't as
- 34:02Speaker 2: valid as what you think they are. And I wouldn't
- 34:05Speaker 2: want anyone to feel bad about their decisions around money,
- 34:07Speaker 2: especially sorry you're starting a list, you're checking it twice
- 34:11Speaker 2: a find out who's not or not exactly what we
- 34:13Speaker 2: got to exactly. And the other additional layer is maybe
- 34:17Speaker 2: you could open the conversation up about, hey, how do
- 34:20Speaker 2: we make the most of these sales? Christmas is coming up?
- 34:24Speaker 2: You know, it's my friend's birthday coming up, and I
- 34:26Speaker 2: know that it's like her thirtieth, so I know I'm
- 34:28Speaker 2: going to be buying a present. Should we be talking
- 34:30Speaker 2: about all of those things now, so that the sales
- 34:33Speaker 2: are not just you know, benefiting us and luxury items
- 34:36Speaker 2: that we want to buy, but also putting us in
- 34:38Speaker 2: a better financial position. Because I don't think a lot
- 34:40Speaker 2: of people and I have this year right there, Christmas
- 34:44Speaker 2: lists early enough to then go oh, I've picked up
- 34:46Speaker 2: Becks and Jesses and this and that during a sale,
- 34:49Speaker 2: because the closer you get to Christmas, the less sales
- 34:52Speaker 2: there are going to be. There's going to be a
- 34:53Speaker 2: whole heap of promotion. They're going to say that things
- 34:55Speaker 2: are discounted, but they're never as discounted as they are
- 34:58Speaker 2: during Black Friday or host Black Friday, just because they
- 35:02Speaker 2: know that you're more desperate for it and you're going
- 35:03Speaker 2: to pay for it. Yeah, you're not going to find
- 35:05Speaker 2: sales on Christmas Eve, baby cakes, that's not going to happen.
- 35:08Speaker 2: They know that you're now desperate buying yeah, and that
- 35:12Speaker 2: wasn't maybe a planned purchase, and they're going to make hey,
- 35:14Speaker 2: well the sun is shining basically. So we obviously also
- 35:17Speaker 2: asked the community because sorry, my favorite thing is your opinion.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Couldn't agree more. Oh I love reading through this and
- 35:23Speaker 2: being like, oh, that's spicy. So we first said what
- 35:28Speaker 2: would you do if you were our community member? This
- 35:30Speaker 2: was pretty split. Forty five percent of you said separate spending,
- 35:34Speaker 2: budget limits and the other forty five percent said compromised
- 35:38Speaker 2: with a shared agreed list seven percent of you said
- 35:42Speaker 2: leave him to spend however he wants, and two percent
- 35:45Speaker 2: said I'd push to skip Black Friday altogether. Okay, fine.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Next question I asked was what are your Black Friday vibes?
- 35:54Speaker 2: Thirty eight percent of you very she's on the money,
- 35:57Speaker 2: said I'm going to use it for Christmas gifts only gorgeous.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Thirty five percent of you said managed to stick to
- 36:02Speaker 2: my list and my budget. Seventeen percent of you said
- 36:05Speaker 2: I'm actually unsubscribing from everything Black Friday, and then ten
- 36:09Speaker 2: percent of you said get carried away and I am overspending. Yeah.
- 36:14Speaker 2: We then said, all right, what's your two cents on
- 36:16Speaker 2: this question? First person said, I put money away each
- 36:19Speaker 2: month for Black Friday sales. I do have a list
- 36:22Speaker 2: of essentials for myself, and I also have a plan
- 36:24Speaker 2: for my Christmas shop. Brilliant. Next person said, spending on
- 36:27Speaker 2: something you don't need because it's on sale is not saving.
- 36:30Speaker 2: It is still spending. I love that quote. That's one
- 36:33Speaker 2: of my favorite quotes because it you're true. I feel
- 36:35Speaker 2: like we say it in the office all the time
- 36:36Speaker 2: and people are like, oh my god, it was like
- 36:38Speaker 2: forty percent off, and we're like, was it or did
- 36:40Speaker 2: you play sixty percent true. Oh, if you were in
- 36:44Speaker 2: the office more often, Beck, I think you would be
- 36:46Speaker 2: horrified at the conversations we have. Like the other day,
- 36:49Speaker 2: I was talking to one of our team members who
- 36:51Speaker 2: really wants the new iPhone, and I was just like same, yeah.
- 36:55Speaker 2: I was like, you don't need it. She's like, yeah,
- 36:57Speaker 2: I do. Like it's got a better camera. And I
- 36:59Speaker 2: was like, you've got a camera. You do not need
- 37:02Speaker 2: another one camera. Yeah. No, sorry, I'm just no, no, no,
- 37:06Speaker 2: You've got a phone that works. And these things come
- 37:08Speaker 2: out every single twelve months, So another twelve months from now,
- 37:10Speaker 2: you're going to be wanting the iPhone eighteen? So do
- 37:13Speaker 2: you want that one? Like, let's just put it off, Like, well,
- 37:15Speaker 2: you've got something that works. Yeah. Oh yeah, we're savages
- 37:19Speaker 2: in the office. That's a great point. We're much kinder
- 37:21Speaker 2: to the community than we are to each other in
- 37:24Speaker 2: the office. Down. Yeah, we're like Jessica, put it down,
- 37:27Speaker 2: just step away from the next person said the over
- 37:30Speaker 2: consumption and american ness actually just gives me the ex
- 37:33Speaker 2: so I skip. Next person said, do you have a
- 37:36Speaker 2: shared goal that his spending is going to interfere with
- 37:40Speaker 2: or are you better? And I'll do two more. Next
- 37:43Speaker 2: person said, it's not a sale if they hike the
- 37:45Speaker 2: price for the month before, then bring it back down
- 37:47Speaker 2: for like Friday.
- 37:48Speaker 4: That's always worth checking because some people do do that
- 37:51Speaker 4: some places.
- 37:52Speaker 2: True. And then someone said, I will only ever order
- 37:55Speaker 2: something if it's like fifty percent off, not the silly
- 37:58Speaker 2: five to twenty percent. Impletely agree. Do you get that anytime? Yeah? Absolutely?
- 38:02Speaker 2: All right, Well That's where I'm going to leave it there.
- 38:04Speaker 2: But I do feel like I just need to have
- 38:06Speaker 2: a values conversation. What's a comeback to jess communication that's
- 38:10Speaker 2: been so wild for a wild all right, will have
- 38:13Speaker 2: a good rest of the day, guys, and we'll see
- 38:15Speaker 2: you bright and early on Monday morning for a money
- 38:17Speaker 2: Darry Bye, Bye, guys. Bye.
