- 0:37Today, what I want to do
- 0:38is finally get to my recap of my attendance for the third time in a row of the recent forward event
- 0:46put on by my buddy, Neil Dhingra and his partner, Trevor York, business partner.
- 0:52And this is the
- 0:53fourth year they've been doing it, third year that I've attended.
- 0:55And I got to say every year
- 0:56keeps getting better.
- 0:57There'll be a link in the show notes if you want to learn more,
- 1:00forwardevent.com.
- 1:02But they've got just 10 plus world-class speakers, 1,000 attendees,
- 1:07and it's definitely an event.
- 1:10If you haven't attended, you should consider going.
- 1:11So what I'm going to do is do a debrief of some of the highlights from the speakers that stood
- 1:18out for me and some of the topics I wanted to bring to you in case you didn't get a chance to
- 1:21attend.
- 1:22Or secondly, if you did attend, maybe you forgot or life got busy, right?
- 1:27So I'm going to
- 1:28start with the first speaker, Rory Vaden, who runs an organization called Brand Builders Group.
- 1:33I've
- 1:33actually had his wife, AJ, on the podcast, and they're really smart when it comes to personal
- 1:38branding.
- 1:39And all that goes into that.
- 1:41They work with some of the top author speakers, coaches out
- 1:43there, including Ed Milet, Lewis Howes, Trent Shelton, a bunch of others as well.
- 1:50But Rory,
- 1:51being all about personal brand and you know people often ask what is what is a personal brand so if
- 1:57you ever asked yourself what is a personal brand and i love the definition that rory gave
- 2:04the personal brand especially in today's market today's world is the digitization
- 2:08of your reputation that's it personal brand today is the digitization of your reputation
- 2:14and so when people look you up online whether you get a referral right however this source
- 2:20of business comes to you let's just face it today we're in this world where people are looking you
- 2:23up and the question is um what do they find and the higher the requirement for trust the more
- 2:32important a personal brand is and if you think about the business we're in right financing homes
- 2:38purchasing real estate there is a high degree of trust required for that transaction comparatively
- 2:45to let's say you grabbing your phone hitting your uber or lyft app and hailing shared ride
- 2:53not a ton of personal branding required for that right like you don't necessarily go deep
- 2:58on the person's background who's now be nice because i've had some really bad uber rides
- 3:02right as i'm sure you have too but you pretty much it's a low friction transaction it's a low
- 3:06risk transaction transaction let me say that so the higher the requirement for trust the
- 3:10the more important a personal brand.
- 3:12What are you doing to help convey trust
- 3:14in your personal brand,
- 3:17in your content,
- 3:18with what you communicate?
- 3:22Let's go a step further.
- 3:23We talked about a personal brand
- 3:24being the digitization of your reputation.
- 3:28Where do you show up online today?
- 3:30Can you be everywhere all at once?
- 3:31For most people, probably not
- 3:33because you don't have the bandwidth,
- 3:35you don't have a team.
- 3:36And when you have diluted focus,
- 3:37you get diluted results.
- 3:40So, my takeaway that I share with you is what one to three maximum platforms, social media
- 3:47platforms can you focus on?
- 3:49Where do you already hang out?
- 3:50Where do you already engage?
- 3:51And stop trying to be everywhere to everyone all the time and get clear on what problem
- 3:59you solve.
- 4:01And Rory, when he talks about what problem you solve, and I remember I was actually a
- 4:04client of Brand Builders Group for some time, and we worked on this together.
- 4:09And in a one word, can you come up with the one problem that you solve in one word?
- 4:12And for the time that I was working with them, the word we came up with was confidence.
- 4:18And if you think about what I do, what I help mortgage originators do is I help them attract
- 4:21versus chase real estate agents and help move them from being seen as a solicitor and vendor
- 4:26to a partner and peer.
- 4:28So no more chasing, no more like disadvantaged positioning when it comes to approaching real
- 4:31estate agents, you attract versus chase.
- 4:34And to do that for some takes a certain level of confidence.
- 4:37I remember when I first started, I was not confident in approaching real estate agents.
- 4:41And that's a process to become confident.
- 4:43And one of the things they say, and that was shared at this event, is that you're most
- 4:47equipped to help the person you once were.
- 4:51So at one time, I was not confident in approaching real estate agents.
- 4:54Now I'm confident.
- 4:54Now I can walk into any room, any meeting, anywhere and meet any real estate agent and
- 4:57feel totally 100% confident about providing a value proposition.
- 5:01And if you're hearing this and that's not yet you, well, that's what we do.
- 5:05And if you want to learn more, you can go over to MortgageMarketing.pro and book a call with me to
- 5:09find out how we do that.
- 5:11But back to the one problem you solved, this is something that's
- 5:13going to take a little bit of you thinking about working through, you know, like who is your ideal
- 5:17client.
- 5:18Sometimes, by the way, with first-time homebuyers, that might be it for you as well.
- 5:21It might be confidence.
- 5:23A lot of first-time homebuyers are lacking confidence, right?
- 5:27And so think about that, continue to work on it and get clear on what are the solutions to the
- 5:33problems you solve.
- 5:34If you aren't clear, your clients won't be clear either.
- 5:38By the way,
- 5:38same true for real estate agents.
- 5:41What are the problems you solve for referral partners, right?
- 5:44Certainty of transaction, right?
- 5:46Less friction in the transaction, confidence to close,
- 5:49right?
- 5:50Those are examples.
- 5:52And then here's a key point.
- 5:53Become an ambassador of the problem.
- 5:57Sell the problem as much as the solution.
- 6:01see people are looking to solve problems more so than they are perhaps to gain solutions right
- 6:09people want to get out of pain more than they want to get into pleasure and so
- 6:13if you just tried leading with you being an ambassador to solve the problem to talk about
- 6:20to promote the problem that your target client referral partner is having in this market and
- 6:25you move that to the surface and you talked about the problems you agitated you stirred up the
- 6:29problems.
- 6:30And then you demonstrated provided proof that you can solve those problems.
- 6:38That will help differentiate your yourself, you, your personal brand, and what you do.
- 6:44Right?
- 6:45And it'll help create trust.
- 6:49How do you help create trust stories, results, do stuff,
- 6:54get things done and then talk about things you've done.
- 6:57And then when possible, have other people
- 7:01talk about what you did for them.
- 7:03And in today's world, what does that look like?
- 7:05It looks like
- 7:06online reviews, testimonials, success stories.
- 7:11Research that was done by Rory's Company Brand
- 7:13Builders Group found that the number one purchase factor for people deciding to make a significant
- 7:18purchase was testimonials about them and their work.
- 7:23How proactive are you at capturing past
- 7:25client testimonials, referral partner testimonials at every single possibility?
- 7:30Do you have a process
- 7:30for capturing past client reviews and testimonials?
- 7:33If not, you're missing the mark.
- 7:35I was preparing
- 7:35for a real estate agent interview here today and I looked him up on Google and he has 388
- 7:42google reviews um pretty much five star across the board but let me ask you if you were considering
- 7:49transacting with a real estate agent moving to the city where this agent actually operates and
- 7:53you look them up and you found that they had 388 reviews would you feel more confident would you
- 7:58have more trust as compared to the other four or five agents that show up on your search
- 8:05that have significantly less 10 20 30. right
- 8:12So to build trust in today's world, your personal brand, remember, what did we say at the top is the digitization of your reputation.
- 8:22What does this mean?
- 8:23It means I have to see you, I have to know you, and I have to learn from you.
- 8:29See you repeatedly over time.
- 8:33Get to know you, engage with you.
- 8:35That's called content.
- 8:36That's why social media platforms work so well, so that I can learn from you because that's going to build trust.
- 8:41And if you show up repetitively with that, right, you're going to break through the wall of noise.
- 8:46You're going to gain my trust.
- 8:48You're going to gain my engagement, which ultimately at some point is going to lead to some type of an interaction, a direct message, a phone call, a meeting, a Zoom, whatever it is.
- 8:59Remember, a great personal brand is service-centered, not self-centered.
- 9:05So to recap, personal brand is the digitization of your representation.
- 9:08I'm sorry, the digitization of your reputation, the higher the requirement for trust, the
- 9:15more important having a personal brand is because that's the only thing I have to go
- 9:19on is how do I trust you?
- 9:22Other ways to build trust as you know, help people solve problems, talk about the problems
- 9:26you've helped people solve and have other people talk about how you've helped them solve
- 9:30problems vis-a-vis success stories, testimonials, online reviews, and then promote the problem
- 9:37as much as you do the solution and align yourself with how you, your system, your process, your
- 9:45experience, your team solves that problem and then prove it.
- 9:54Okay.
- 9:54So that's recap number one from the Forward event.
- 10:00Shout out to Neil and Trev for putting that
- 10:02on.
