- 1:23Speaker 2: your usual Money Diaries episode. Today, I've got something very
- 1:27Speaker 2: special for you. It's actually something we have had on
- 1:29Speaker 2: our most requested episode list for a very long time.
- 1:33Speaker 2: I am obviously Jess Ricky, and today I am joined
- 1:36Speaker 2: by someone who we all know and love to talk
- 1:39Speaker 2: about her first yeah, as an investor. Welcome to the
- 1:42Speaker 2: Money Diaries hot seat. Thanks site.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Yes, Hi, it's so cool.
- 1:47Speaker 2: You're so cute and excited.
- 1:49Speaker 3: I'm so excited. I'm like, when you said the most
- 1:53Speaker 3: requested episode, I was like, sure, I'm sure, sure, not
- 1:55Speaker 3: for people, that is so nice. I mean, sorry, not
- 1:58Speaker 3: most requested, but like requested at all. I'm stoked.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Honestly, wouldn't be surprised if it was the most requested,
- 2:03Speaker 2: very highly at the very least.
- 2:05Speaker 3: That is crazy. Thank you, guys. I really hope I'm
- 2:08Speaker 3: I make it worth it, you know, worth your time.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Go leave a comment and tell her how much you
- 2:13Speaker 2: love her.
- 2:13Speaker 3: I wouldn't hate it, you love it.
- 2:16Speaker 2: I want to take you back back to the beginning, Yes,
- 2:19Speaker 2: the time before she's on the Money Free Us. How
- 2:22Speaker 2: did you feel about investing before you'd started working for
- 2:25Speaker 2: the show.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Honestly, I didn't know what it was. I couldn't understand it,
- 2:31Speaker 3: just didn't Yeah, I think I hadn't demystified it at
- 2:34Speaker 3: that point. It was kind of just like a word
- 2:38Speaker 3: that I kind of reserved for people who were a
- 2:41Speaker 3: little bit richer or something like that. I kind of
- 2:44Speaker 3: just hadn't. I had no idea what it was. I
- 2:47Speaker 3: have to be honest, I have no idea.
- 2:48Speaker 2: That's fact we were honesty. Was anyone in your circle investing?
- 2:51Speaker 2: Did anyone around you talk about it?
- 2:53Speaker 3: My brother who has like always been really good with money,
- 2:55Speaker 3: but he would he was like using these letters S
- 3:00Speaker 3: and P five hundred, and I was like, I don't
- 3:03Speaker 3: know what that is. And I didn't think I had
- 3:05Speaker 3: enough money to make it worth it, so I was like,
- 3:07Speaker 3: I'm not gonna I would kind of just zone out
- 3:10Speaker 3: when he would talk about Yeah, but he was the
- 3:11Speaker 3: only one I knew, the only person that was good
- 3:13Speaker 3: with money in my world, and it was just never
- 3:18Speaker 3: spoken about in a way that was at all palatable
- 3:20Speaker 3: for someone who does not know about that stuff.
- 3:22Speaker 2: You Knowah, it makes it feel really out of reach. Yeah,
- 3:26Speaker 2: you had been with the show for about two years,
- 3:28Speaker 2: I think, roughly before you started investing. What was holding
- 3:31Speaker 2: you back from starting until that point?
- 3:34Speaker 3: I think I just didn't understand it. I think it's
- 3:36Speaker 3: mostly about like not understanding. I don't think I was
- 3:39Speaker 3: like worried or fearful or anything like that. I just
- 3:42Speaker 3: kind of thought, I, also, you need X amount before
- 3:45Speaker 3: you even start. I was like, what's the point in
- 3:48Speaker 3: chucking a dollar or two in there? It's going to
- 3:49Speaker 3: go up and down. It's mainly going to go down.
- 3:52Speaker 3: I didn't understand it enough, you know. And so I
- 3:54Speaker 3: think when I realized that you get ten dollars for
- 3:58Speaker 3: free with the sign up to shares, yes, yes, yes,
- 4:03Speaker 3: and I was like, okay, well I'll just do that.
- 4:05Speaker 3: But then also at the same time, and nothing to
- 4:07Speaker 3: do with investing. I just like you know, when you
- 4:09Speaker 3: just have like a life admin task, so you just
- 4:11Speaker 3: keep putting off. It was just one of those things.
- 4:13Speaker 3: And I think I was like, I think I was
- 4:15Speaker 3: just like bored, maybe like an airport or something. It
- 4:18Speaker 3: was like there was like a holding period, maybe I
- 4:20Speaker 3: was like waiting for the doctor to come out or something,
- 4:22Speaker 3: and I was like, well, I've completely scrolled all of Instagram,
- 4:25Speaker 3: and what else can I do? And then that's I
- 4:27Speaker 3: think when I did it. Yeah, and yeah, I just
- 4:29Speaker 3: started with ten dollars and I don't even know how
- 4:33Speaker 3: I knew what to put it on, but I just
- 4:35Speaker 3: started with that and then that was it. Yeah, So
- 4:38Speaker 3: I had to wait till I was bored enough to
- 4:41Speaker 3: get into a place where I was like, I'll let
- 4:43Speaker 3: me download. Yeah, you know, how did you find obviously
- 4:47Speaker 3: while you were working for those two years, while you
- 4:48Speaker 3: were hosting the show with Victoria inter minutely you were
- 4:51Speaker 3: talking about investing, you know, probably like once a month
- 4:54Speaker 3: or so, how did you find were you like absorbing
- 4:57Speaker 3: the information or were you.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Not really following along? Were you taking it in and
- 5:02Speaker 2: wanting to sit with it for a while, Like what
- 5:04Speaker 2: was that experience for you?
- 5:06Speaker 3: I think I didn't take it in for a while,
- 5:08Speaker 3: but I took it in enough to understand the word.
- 5:12Speaker 3: I guess the same way I would understand when she
- 5:16Speaker 3: says we need to do a budget for you. I
- 5:18Speaker 3: have no idea what that looks like. I can't be
- 5:23Speaker 3: like behind the word, I can't see that world.
- 5:27Speaker 2: You don't see the value.
- 5:28Speaker 3: I see the value, but I don't know what it is. Yeah,
- 5:31Speaker 3: Like I can't see behind the door, the door, which
- 5:33Speaker 3: is the word budget. Yeah, And because they can't see
- 5:37Speaker 3: behind the door, nothing makes sense in my brain. I'm like, oh, yeah, yeah,
- 5:41Speaker 3: I've got to do this thing. I don't know why.
- 5:43Speaker 3: I don't know how. I don't know what it looks like.
- 5:44Speaker 3: I don't know anything about it. I'm just like, okay, well,
- 5:47Speaker 3: people are telling me I got to do this thing.
- 5:49Speaker 3: I guess I got to do this thing. Yeah, but
- 5:51Speaker 3: I don't know why yet. You know what I mean.
- 5:53Speaker 2: You got to roll it around in your brain a
- 5:54Speaker 2: little bit fast, like when you start a new job
- 5:57Speaker 2: and they're like taking you through a process and you
- 6:00Speaker 2: were just like, yeah, cool, easy, I know what like this,
- 6:03Speaker 2: I do this after this.
- 6:04Speaker 3: You don't know why yet, You're just kind of doing it,
- 6:06Speaker 3: you know.
- 6:06Speaker 2: That's what it feels like.
- 6:07Speaker 3: I suppose that talent.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Once you downloaded the app, did you invest immediately so
- 6:13Speaker 2: you don't up to the app? You get ten dollars
- 6:14Speaker 2: when you make your first deposit, did you then immediately
- 6:17Speaker 2: put that into something?
- 6:19Speaker 3: I think I did. I think I did. I must
- 6:21Speaker 3: have put it in because the only reason I knew
- 6:24Speaker 3: about ATFS was because of Victoria. And you know, for
- 6:28Speaker 3: anyone who doesn't know, ETF is like a basket of shares.
- 6:31Speaker 3: So you don't have to choose one share. It's just
- 6:33Speaker 3: like a basket, and that felt easier for me and
- 6:37Speaker 3: takes the pressure. Yeah, takes the pressure off. And I
- 6:40Speaker 3: think it felt better somehow. And so I was like, oh,
- 6:43Speaker 3: I'll I think I googled ETFs like most popular ones,
- 6:47Speaker 3: and I think that that's how I decided where to
- 6:50Speaker 3: put my money and then I just put it in
- 6:52Speaker 3: that and then just kind of left it.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Did you have any fears or hesitations around, you know,
- 6:57Speaker 2: putting your money into something. I think for a lot
- 6:59Speaker 2: of people, shares feel very intangible. It's like you're sending
- 7:02Speaker 2: your money out into the universe and it's gone. Did
- 7:05Speaker 2: you have any concerns around that?
- 7:07Speaker 3: Yeah? I think because I didn't really. It wasn't didn't
- 7:10Speaker 3: feel like my own money. So I was like, I
- 7:13Speaker 3: didn't really mind. But then once I started putting my
- 7:15Speaker 3: own money in, there was some there's some hesitation. Yeah,
- 7:19Speaker 3: but I think that hearing Victoria say, and you know,
- 7:23Speaker 3: I preface this by saying, like, I know that past
- 7:25Speaker 3: performance is not an indicator of future performance, but knowing
- 7:30Speaker 3: that it's kind of a thing that you know, ASX
- 7:34Speaker 3: or S and P whatever they are, whatever the big
- 7:36Speaker 3: ones are, they kind of have only gone up over
- 7:40Speaker 3: the years, and so I was like, even if it
- 7:42Speaker 3: goes down one day, or even if it's down for
- 7:44Speaker 3: like a long time, I think it's gonna be okay,
- 7:48Speaker 3: you know. And so but I wasn't too scared, especially
- 7:51Speaker 3: when it wasn't really my money to begin with. I
- 7:53Speaker 3: was like, whatever, I feel like.
- 7:55Speaker 2: You're like your nature as a human is, you're very
- 7:58Speaker 2: like everything will work out. It's it's fine. Totally feel
- 8:01Speaker 2: like that lends itself really well to investing because you're
- 8:05Speaker 2: absolutely right, Like you know, you can have peaks and troughs,
- 8:07Speaker 2: but we always say look at it over, you know,
- 8:09Speaker 2: zoom out of ten years here.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Totally you're right.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Historically typically the market's on average climb. But if you're
- 8:16Speaker 2: caught up in the day to day looking at it,
- 8:18Speaker 2: going oh what is this?
- 8:19Speaker 3: What is that? That is my ideal? Yeah.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Do you feel like you have a high risk appetite
- 8:24Speaker 2: because of that?
- 8:25Speaker 3: I think so. And I think like it really works
- 8:27Speaker 3: in my favor to be so like no offense, Victoria
- 8:31Speaker 3: or anyone, to be so not interested in finances is
- 8:36Speaker 3: really working my favorite because I'm not. It does get
- 8:39Speaker 3: to a point where, like I kind of do check
- 8:41Speaker 3: it as often as I would check, like I don't know,
- 8:44Speaker 3: I would go on Instagram and then I'm like, I'm
- 8:45Speaker 3: bored of Instagram. I'm gonna check my chaise easier that
- 8:47Speaker 3: kind of thing. But because it's not like I don't
- 8:51Speaker 3: fully understand it, I don't fully understand all the words.
- 8:54Speaker 3: I don't, you know, I'm kind of just checking it
- 8:56Speaker 3: to see what it's doing, and then I'm leaving. You know,
- 8:58Speaker 3: I'm not like I'm I'm not super I'm not reading
- 9:01Speaker 3: up on anything. And that's so I think that because
- 9:03Speaker 3: of that, I can kind of it can kind of
- 9:04Speaker 3: be out of sight, out of mind.
- 9:06Speaker 2: I want to ask about the first investment you made
- 9:08Speaker 2: after that initial ten dollars. So obviously you had your
- 9:10Speaker 2: ten dollars. It wasn't your own money because you got
- 9:12Speaker 2: it from the sign up code. Love that thanks for supporting.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Of course, after that, you obviously had to make a
- 9:18Speaker 2: conscious choice to invest more money. When was that. How
- 9:22Speaker 2: long after your initial investment of that ten dollars did
- 9:26Speaker 2: you invest in the same thing or something different? Talk
- 9:28Speaker 2: me through that whole process.
- 9:30Speaker 3: I think after that it probably was around the same time.
- 9:34Speaker 3: It was either the same day or very very soon after,
- 9:39Speaker 3: where I just honestly it was like five dollars or
- 9:42Speaker 3: ten dollars I think, And it was like right when
- 9:45Speaker 3: payday came around. It was not like, you know, talk
- 9:48Speaker 3: to me like three weeks or two weeks after payday,
- 9:50Speaker 3: and there's just no chance I'm considering that, like I'm
- 9:54Speaker 3: trying to use every Sometimes I'll send all these different
- 9:57Speaker 3: cents to one account, so it turns to two dollars
- 10:00Speaker 3: eighty and then I'm like, great, now i can buy
- 10:03Speaker 3: seven to eleven coffee. I'm not putting that money in
- 10:06Speaker 3: the chairsias. But I started doing it like I had
- 10:09Speaker 3: a lot of money because I just got paid, and
- 10:10Speaker 3: then I think I put five or ten dollars in
- 10:13Speaker 3: and then I think I probably did put it in
- 10:16Speaker 3: the same thing just because it's like I didn't really
- 10:19Speaker 3: know anything. And then what I did was like I
- 10:22Speaker 3: I don't like, this is not a recommendation or any
- 10:24Speaker 3: advice at all. But I went into like ETFs and
- 10:26Speaker 3: then I did you can like sort it by I
- 10:30Speaker 3: think I did highest earning or greatest return or something
- 10:33Speaker 3: like that, and then I decided like buying random things
- 10:36Speaker 3: and then and then I would google and I know
- 10:39Speaker 3: this is not it is not financialized. This is probably
- 10:42Speaker 3: very very dumb, but I would google, say, I don't know,
- 10:46Speaker 3: a oaklook table forecast, whatever the share name is, I
- 10:51Speaker 3: would I would type that in and then write forecast
- 10:54Speaker 3: and if it like came up as like a strong
- 10:56Speaker 3: buy or something and not that, I like, I promise
- 10:59Speaker 3: I'm not like a big person who just like reads
- 11:03Speaker 3: and believes everything they see on the internet. But I
- 11:05Speaker 3: was just like, kind of just kind of felt like
- 11:07Speaker 3: a game. And I was like, who cares if I
- 11:09Speaker 3: lose ten dollars here and there. I don't really care.
- 11:11Speaker 3: I'm just like it kind of just felt like a game.
- 11:14Speaker 3: And then before I knew it, I had like all
- 11:16Speaker 3: these different things going on, all my money in all
- 11:19Speaker 3: these different places, the majority of it in like, you know,
- 11:22Speaker 3: the safe ones, I suppose quote unquote, yeah.
- 11:26Speaker 2: What kind of platforms or resources you know? You say
- 11:29Speaker 2: you were reading somewhere that it was a recommendation strung
- 11:32Speaker 2: by recommendation? What kind of websites or platforms were you
- 11:35Speaker 2: looking out to get that information from.
- 11:37Speaker 3: I would never use the same website, and I don't
- 11:39Speaker 3: know what websites are trustworthy. I would literally just go
- 11:42Speaker 3: to Google and then you know, sometimes the AI thing,
- 11:46Speaker 3: you'll right, you were summary at the top, and then
- 11:49Speaker 3: I would just look at that and then yeah, and
- 11:51Speaker 3: then skip out and be like, great, that's enough information
- 11:53Speaker 3: for me, and then go ahead and do it. And
- 11:55Speaker 3: it doesn't always work, because.
- 11:57Speaker 2: That is not because AI does not. Yes, I was
- 12:01Speaker 2: just gonna say, for anyone listening, this is back personal experience.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Personal not necessarily that we would recommend that you do exactly,
- 12:07Speaker 2: but that's okay, Like everybody has their own journey and
- 12:09Speaker 2: that is so fine. What surprised you about getting started
- 12:13Speaker 2: investing once you finally got over the you know, the
- 12:15Speaker 2: cliff and started going, honestly, like.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Seeing it start earning money, I was like, oh my god,
- 12:21Speaker 3: I thought that was just like I didn't think that's real.
- 12:23Speaker 3: I thought it was like you put money in. My
- 12:26Speaker 3: only experience with this kind of thing, because I had
- 12:29Speaker 3: just only ever done it for such a short period
- 12:31Speaker 3: of time, is that I put money in and then
- 12:33Speaker 3: I lose a little bit and then I take it
- 12:35Speaker 3: out and that's all all. Like I would maybe gain
- 12:37Speaker 3: a tiny bit and then it would take it out
- 12:39Speaker 3: and it all go to fees or whatever, and then
- 12:42Speaker 3: now that I've had it in there for so long,
- 12:45Speaker 3: it's earning money, and I just I know that that's
- 12:49Speaker 3: the point of it, you know, ideally that's the point
- 12:51Speaker 3: of it. But yeah, I didn't think it would be real,
- 12:54Speaker 3: and then I can see it's happening, it's doing it.
- 12:57Speaker 2: When created earning money? Are you talking about the things
- 13:00Speaker 2: you're investing in? Paying you dividend? Are you talking about
- 13:02Speaker 2: the value of your shares increasing? The value of my
- 13:05Speaker 2: shares increasing? But I do sometimes to get dividen in. Yeah,
- 13:08Speaker 2: even if it's like sixteen cents, isn't it the most
- 13:10Speaker 2: exciting thing ever?
- 13:11Speaker 3: Totally? And I've got my notifications on so it's like,
- 13:13Speaker 3: this thing is about to pay your dividen in and
- 13:15Speaker 3: I'm like, what, that's thank you?
- 13:17Speaker 2: Do you reinvest it or do you keep the dividend?
- 13:20Speaker 3: I reinvest it just because I don't want to learn
- 13:24Speaker 3: how to take it out, and I feel like that's good. Yeah,
- 13:28Speaker 3: I'm purposely not figuring out how to withdraw money.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Because then I will just do it and then you
- 13:33Speaker 2: know it that I want to get a little bit nosy. Absolutely,
- 13:38Speaker 2: can I ask how much do you have invested?
- 13:40Speaker 4: Now?
- 13:40Speaker 3: Yeah? So just check this one second before we started talking,
- 13:44Speaker 3: and so it may have changed, but it's four and
- 13:48Speaker 3: twenty dollars and fifty five cents.
- 13:50Speaker 2: That's amazing.
- 13:52Speaker 4: Creation.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Did you ever feel like it would get to that
- 13:56Speaker 2: amount of money?
- 13:56Speaker 1: No.
- 13:57Speaker 3: When I started, I like, I think it took me
- 13:59Speaker 3: agesy at to seventy and then I was like, oh
- 14:00Speaker 3: my god, it's seventy bucks in here. That's crazy. And
- 14:03Speaker 3: there were times where I was like, I've completely run
- 14:06Speaker 3: out of money. I'm gonna have to take the seventy
- 14:07Speaker 3: dollars out. But then I was like, oh no, I
- 14:09Speaker 3: don't know how to do it yet, and I don't
- 14:11Speaker 3: want to figure it out. You know, we're going to
- 14:12Speaker 3: keep it that way. You're going to keep it that way,
- 14:15Speaker 3: and so I I And then before I knew it like,
- 14:17Speaker 3: it just kept growing. And then when it starts growing,
- 14:18Speaker 3: you're like, and it's wasn't even like the value of
- 14:22Speaker 3: the shares growing, It was just me putting money in. Yeah,
- 14:25Speaker 3: and that in itself was like enough to kind of
- 14:28Speaker 3: be a bit addictive eventually.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Such a good feeling.
- 14:31Speaker 3: It's such a good feeling.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Have you ever pulled money out or have you just
- 14:34Speaker 2: been adding to it? The whole time.
- 14:35Speaker 3: I've just been adding to it that.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Honestly, Beck for you, and I'm saying this in a
- 14:42Speaker 2: very loving way. I don't want you want to take
- 14:43Speaker 2: it away, but for you and your personality type and
- 14:46Speaker 2: the way that you struggle with impulse control, that's incredible.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Thank you so much, thank you, good job, thank you
- 14:53Speaker 3: so much.
- 14:53Speaker 2: I'm really really proud of you.
- 14:55Speaker 3: Thank you, Jesse.
- 14:56Speaker 2: It's so sweet.
- 14:57Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 14:57Speaker 3: I really it does not go with my story. It's
- 15:00Speaker 3: so really so far from anything I could have dreamed
- 15:05Speaker 3: for myself. Yeah, and again, like in my real life,
- 15:08Speaker 3: I don't have savings because I can't. I don't have
- 15:12Speaker 3: the control. So I'm like, yeah, this is the only
- 15:14Speaker 3: thing I know. Victoria would suggest having the emergency fund
- 15:17Speaker 3: before investing, but that if that's the only thing that
- 15:20Speaker 3: works for me. Unfortunately I just have investments. I don't
- 15:25Speaker 3: have savings, and that's okay. I think, Yeah, worst came
- 15:28Speaker 3: to worse, A's still good that thing.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, the fact you're working on creating a
- 15:33Speaker 2: more secure financial future for yourself in a way that
- 15:36Speaker 2: works for you, and I think that that's absolutely there's
- 15:37Speaker 2: no right way to do money.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 15:40Speaker 2: The fact, yeah, that you're changing your habits. That's just
- 15:42Speaker 2: so wonderful.
- 15:43Speaker 3: Thank you. Oh my gosh. How many different things.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Are you invested in across that? For else, I feel like.
- 15:50Speaker 3: I'm going to check really quickly while I have you here. So, oh,
- 15:58Speaker 3: I've got eighteen dollars in my wall right now, one, two, three, four,
- 16:09Speaker 3: I've invested in thirty six things.
- 16:12Speaker 2: And you know what, that's your journey and that's okay,
- 16:16Speaker 2: that's funny. Okay, here's a question. So you're invested in
- 16:19Speaker 2: you're very well potentially diversified. Are they all ETFs? Are
- 16:25Speaker 2: some of those individual shares?
- 16:27Speaker 3: I think some of some of the individual Do you
- 16:30Speaker 3: think I should condense them?
- 16:32Speaker 2: I mean, it's totally up to you in your strategy.
- 16:35Speaker 2: If you hold a lot of ETFs, though, it would
- 16:37Speaker 2: probably be worth looking at what overlaps. I would say
- 16:40Speaker 2: a lot of you know, a lot of ETFs or
- 16:43Speaker 2: index funds rather track markets and things, So you might
- 16:46Speaker 2: find true depending on what you've invested, there may be
- 16:49Speaker 2: a fair bit of crossover there you consolidate down. Not
- 16:52Speaker 2: that there's anything wrong with holding lots of different things,
- 16:55Speaker 2: it just means you're like money's more spread out with
- 16:58Speaker 2: so many of them in your PORTFOLI, how do you
- 17:01Speaker 2: decide where your money is going? So let's say you
- 17:04Speaker 2: get here, You've got a certain amount you what did
- 17:06Speaker 2: you say, seventeen dollars in your wallet right now?
- 17:08Speaker 1: Ah?
- 17:08Speaker 3: Yes, eighteen eight right now?
- 17:11Speaker 2: How do you go? Okay? Well, which of these thirty
- 17:14Speaker 2: plus places am I putting that money?
- 17:17Speaker 3: I could probably put fifty cents in each?
- 17:19Speaker 2: Is that your typical shows.
- 17:23Speaker 3: You look so stressed? I want to know more. It's
- 17:28Speaker 3: such a good question. That really stresses me out when
- 17:30Speaker 3: I have money in my wallet because I'm like, well,
- 17:32Speaker 3: I don't I don't want to keep it there. I
- 17:33Speaker 3: want to put it somewhere, but I don't know where
- 17:35Speaker 3: to put it. I don't know where to start, and
- 17:36Speaker 3: so I think I should go through and figure out
- 17:38Speaker 3: what's not working for me anymore. But what I do
- 17:41Speaker 3: is I have price notifications set on some things. That's great.
- 17:45Speaker 2: So when things dip under a certain notified just way.
- 17:49Speaker 3: Go to the one that I will The major one
- 17:51Speaker 3: that I'm going to be investing in probably for about
- 17:53Speaker 3: is ASX five hundred I think, or s.
- 17:56Speaker 2: And P five hundred s and P five hundred s
- 17:58Speaker 2: and p five hundred.
- 17:59Speaker 3: It's a combination of both SMP and ASX. That's like,
- 18:03Speaker 3: I think that's my main one. I'm pretty sure. And
- 18:05Speaker 3: then I just like have like I put everything in
- 18:07Speaker 3: there if I can't decide.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Yeah, so're investing in an index fund that tracks the
- 18:12Speaker 2: two different AXMSMP.
- 18:14Speaker 3: Yeah exactly.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Yeah, so you put the bulk of your money, you
- 18:17Speaker 2: would say, into that every time you have money there, Yes, yes, exactly.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Incredible overall, Like, how are you feeling about just everything
- 18:25Speaker 2: that you've got going on? I feel like from where
- 18:26Speaker 2: you were when you started to be here, you've come
- 18:29Speaker 2: such a long way.
- 18:30Speaker 3: How does it sound you? It does feel really really good.
- 18:33Speaker 3: It just feels like though, because it's not fully in
- 18:37Speaker 3: my day to day. It's not accessible, and it's not
- 18:40Speaker 3: like I'm trying to not make it accessible as well,
- 18:42Speaker 3: and that's intentional. Right. Yeah, it does feel good to
- 18:45Speaker 3: have like almost like a safety net that I don't
- 18:48Speaker 3: want to touch and I don't expect to touch at
- 18:50Speaker 3: any point. But my day to day still feels weirdly
- 18:55Speaker 3: exactly the same as. Oh no, I think I do
- 18:58Speaker 3: feel a little bit better, even though I am still
- 19:00Speaker 3: not doing well financially. Like just because of my own
- 19:03Speaker 3: you know, I mean I don't get I don't get
- 19:05Speaker 3: paid heaps of money, but I could be way better
- 19:07Speaker 3: with my money as well.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Learning still, you're learning still, so because you don't have
- 19:11Speaker 2: that safety in it. Have you ever thought about getting
- 19:14Speaker 2: personal insurances or something like that to help protect yourself.
- 19:18Speaker 3: I have thought about it. It's all like quite a complex,
- 19:21Speaker 3: seems like a complex world, too complex a world for me.
- 19:24Speaker 3: So I don't have insurance, but I would. I have
- 19:29Speaker 3: been thinking about maybe one day exploring.
- 19:31Speaker 2: That when you do chi go to fel he did mine,
- 19:33Speaker 2: and like their team, they just do insurance. It's a
- 19:37Speaker 2: much more affordable fee getting advice for insurance specifically, rather
- 19:41Speaker 2: than going and getting holistic financial advice like significantly significantly cheaper.
- 19:46Speaker 2: And their team were amazing. They kind of like sort
- 19:48Speaker 2: of it all out presented it to me because.
- 19:50Speaker 3: It can be a r that is literally what I need.
- 19:52Speaker 3: I kind of feel like embarrassed going to you know,
- 19:54Speaker 3: maybe like my super company or something and they kind
- 19:56Speaker 3: of deal all these different things, but like strictly insurance
- 19:59Speaker 3: or something be really really helpful, I imagine. So okay,
- 20:04Speaker 3: than even though I'm still not using it wisely, I
- 20:10Speaker 3: am like things feel clearer, you know, and I can
- 20:14Speaker 3: see things clearer, and I can see a path that
- 20:17Speaker 3: is starting to form, and I all I need to
- 20:20Speaker 3: do is just like walk down the path. Yeah, but
- 20:22Speaker 3: I couldn't see the path before.
- 20:24Speaker 2: That's amazing, you know what I mean. Absolutely, And that's
- 20:26Speaker 2: the thing of it all. I think a lot of
- 20:27Speaker 2: the time, as humans, we feel like we've got to
- 20:30Speaker 2: have it all figured out to get that and that
- 20:32Speaker 2: like I'm someone who as a perfectionist, that really holds
- 20:35Speaker 2: me back, Like across pretty much every aspect of my life,
- 20:37Speaker 2: that need for things to be exactly right is often
- 20:40Speaker 2: what holds me back. And so I didn't start investing
- 20:43Speaker 2: until I was confident in what I was choosing, and
- 20:45Speaker 2: I didn't you know, I don't make choices until I'm like,
- 20:48Speaker 2: this is the right thing, and like that's not how
- 20:50Speaker 2: the world works, I know. I mean it honestly, probably
- 20:53Speaker 2: is a lot more effective in terms of taking advantage
- 20:56Speaker 2: of time in the market to be like you and
- 20:57Speaker 2: just go, well, you know what, I don't know what
- 20:59Speaker 2: I'm really doing, but I'm to throw some money and
- 21:00Speaker 2: we're going to figure it out totally. And you can
- 21:03Speaker 2: always change it down the track, like you've got the
- 21:05Speaker 2: thirty six. We can take a look after the show
- 21:07Speaker 2: and go okay, like what crow crossover is there? Like
- 21:09Speaker 2: how can we clean this up? If that's something you
- 21:11Speaker 2: want to do. Yeah, but if it's not, it also
- 21:14Speaker 2: isn't wrong, like and there is no wrong way to
- 21:16Speaker 2: do it, you know what I mean?
- 21:18Speaker 3: Yes, you're sor right? Thank you? So no, no, no,
- 21:21Speaker 3: I just like like you thinking about how I for
- 21:25Speaker 3: some reason thought I was had like eight things in there.
- 21:30Speaker 4: Scrawling.
- 21:32Speaker 3: You and I will sit down after this, you'll have
- 21:33Speaker 3: a look. Thank you.
- 21:35Speaker 2: In the meantime, let's go to a really quick break.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Maybe we can't pull it up, have a quick little
- 21:38Speaker 2: scroll gorgeous, and then when we come back, I want
- 21:40Speaker 2: to hear a bit more about this journey. So don't
- 21:42Speaker 2: go anywhere, guys. Beck and I are back, and I
- 21:48Speaker 2: want to know a year on, as a person who
- 21:51Speaker 2: is very very honest about not having a lot of
- 21:54Speaker 2: additional income, what does your regular investing.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Look like for you?
- 22:00Speaker 2: In Chazya's however you're investing if you invest other ways, Oh.
- 22:04Speaker 3: I understand it well Chazy's actually, yes, is the only
- 22:06Speaker 3: way I invest so I don't. Actually, no, I in
- 22:11Speaker 3: Victoria probably would like this very much. I have a
- 22:12Speaker 3: little bit of money in bitcoin. There you go just
- 22:16Speaker 3: like forty dollars, and I'm like, well, I just leave
- 22:18Speaker 3: it there because who knows.
- 22:19Speaker 2: You know, maybe you'll be like that guy who throughout
- 22:21Speaker 2: the hard drive that had like two billion dollars.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Oh my god, because he bought it, right, is that
- 22:25Speaker 3: forty dollars? You never know, You never know, you never know.
- 22:28Speaker 3: So I do have that sitting there. I forgot about that,
- 22:31Speaker 3: but no otherwise just Chazy's. So I've kind of just
- 22:34Speaker 3: like put auto roundups on so I can see when
- 22:37Speaker 3: I go in there that it's like, you know, there's
- 22:39Speaker 3: like a tally. It is also very revealing because it's
- 22:42Speaker 3: like I'm I'm not realizing how much, how much or
- 22:45Speaker 3: how quickly I'm spending. But every let's say dollar is
- 22:49Speaker 3: rounded up to the next.
- 22:50Speaker 2: So if you buy like a two dollars fifty coffee,
- 22:53Speaker 2: you'll spend three dollars and fifty cents if that goes
- 22:55Speaker 2: to your chazyas exactly exactly.
- 22:57Speaker 3: So my in my sharzycounter will kind of be likeing
- 23:00Speaker 3: up and the rate at which I'm eating five dollars
- 23:04Speaker 3: is like super human.
- 23:07Speaker 2: You're spending a lot of money.
- 23:08Speaker 3: I'll spend a lot of money. So almost every nanosecond
- 23:13Speaker 3: shares these all notify me and say another five dollars,
- 23:15Speaker 3: and then my dollars is hitting your account and I'm like, okay,
- 23:18Speaker 3: well I need and I can't even afford these five
- 23:20Speaker 3: dollars anymore, you know, And I'm like, well, I need
- 23:22Speaker 3: to be spending less, is I think the takeaway, But
- 23:26Speaker 3: my brain is also kind of like I just need
- 23:28Speaker 3: to turn my roundups off. No, Andy is spend less.
- 23:31Speaker 3: You know that mindset shit there you go, look at
- 23:34Speaker 3: that mindset ship that happened in real time because we
- 23:38Speaker 3: have this conversation.
- 23:40Speaker 4: Was like.
- 23:42Speaker 3: My round ups off or yes, or like to be
- 23:49Speaker 3: spending the same amount but in one transaction. Yeah, that's true.
- 23:54Speaker 3: So I have round ups on. I don't even remember
- 23:57Speaker 3: the last time I actively went and deposited money in there.
- 24:00Speaker 3: So it's it really is just those roundups that are
- 24:03Speaker 3: keeping me afloat. But there's a new like five dollars
- 24:05Speaker 3: every at least once a day, I would say, wow,
- 24:09Speaker 3: which is crazy and also feels like if someone asks
- 24:14Speaker 3: me this to save what is that seven times five
- 24:18Speaker 3: thirty five dollars a week. I'd be like, I can try,
- 24:21Speaker 3: but I probably probably won't do that.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:23Speaker 3: I saved twenty dollars for two weeks and then immediately
- 24:25Speaker 3: took it out again, you know what I mean. But
- 24:27Speaker 3: thirty dollars a week in my SHARE's ease, I'm not noticing, Yeah,
- 24:33Speaker 3: and I can't take out.
- 24:34Speaker 2: And that's the nice thing about automating. I think, especially
- 24:36Speaker 2: for someone like you you've got an EHD, impulse control
- 24:39Speaker 2: is a big thing. I think that having it automated
- 24:42Speaker 2: means you don't have to think about It's that out
- 24:44Speaker 2: of sight, out of mind, which I know that obviously
- 24:46Speaker 2: when you're investing, you know, make sure your hands on,
- 24:48Speaker 2: make sure you're looking at everything. But having that little
- 24:51Speaker 2: bit of I guess, removing the barrier, like it just
- 24:54Speaker 2: happens without you, Yeah, you know what I mean, So
- 24:56Speaker 2: you're not conscious of it. You don't notice the fifty
- 24:58Speaker 2: cents disappearing on top of your two fifty coffee necessarily.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Then when you have five dollars to invest, you're, oh,
- 25:04Speaker 2: that's actually like quite a lot of money.
- 25:06Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, And then it kind of gets really exciting
- 25:09Speaker 3: like that. I mean, I don't recommend having thirty six
- 25:12Speaker 3: different things that you're investing in, but going through and like,
- 25:15Speaker 3: oh know, see what's coming up, what's hot right now?
- 25:18Speaker 3: You know, it's kind of fun. And like even if
- 25:20Speaker 3: you if you end up like playing with that five
- 25:23Speaker 3: dollars and you lose it or it kind of goes
- 25:26Speaker 3: down and up and whatever, it's like, you know, yeah,
- 25:28Speaker 3: it's five dollars and it was fun and you learn
- 25:30Speaker 3: something I suppose, so it's all worth it at the
- 25:32Speaker 3: end of the day.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Incredible.
- 25:33Speaker 3: Yeah, And I think like the other thing I would
- 25:36Speaker 3: say is once it starts getting rewarding, you might think like, oh,
- 25:40Speaker 3: it's going to take like a year to get to
- 25:41Speaker 3: fourteen hundred, but like and you know, maybe it took
- 25:43Speaker 3: me that long, maybe it took longer than that. I
- 25:46Speaker 3: think it took longer than that. But it starts being
- 25:48Speaker 3: rewarding and addictive the second you start. It's like from
- 25:53Speaker 3: fifteen dollars onward, it is so addictive, so you don't
- 25:56Speaker 3: need to be like, oh, in a year then I'll
- 25:58Speaker 3: have enough and then I'll be like no, it's like rewarding.
- 26:01Speaker 3: It's like addicting, addictive, immediately.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Yeah, incredible. You're someone who's really driven by your values.
- 26:09Speaker 2: You're very clear, I think.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Like cure, Yeah, very clear moral lines.
- 26:13Speaker 2: How does that play into your investing in what you're
- 26:16Speaker 2: choosing to invest in.
- 26:17Speaker 3: It's a great question. And what I do is, I mean,
- 26:21Speaker 3: Google's my best friend with this kind of thing, which
- 26:23Speaker 3: I think is ironic because you know, I'm using still
- 26:27Speaker 3: AI even though I don't use chat GPT, but it's
- 26:29Speaker 3: still kind of is using the same energy, I think.
- 26:33Speaker 3: But I have a lot of friends that are that
- 26:37Speaker 3: has the same mentality as me, but they're a little
- 26:39Speaker 3: bit more they're more disciplined, and they're more going to
- 26:44Speaker 3: like look into what they're.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Doing, and they're doing the research.
- 26:46Speaker 3: They're doing the research, and they're going to sit down
- 26:49Speaker 3: and like take the time to And so I surround
- 26:52Speaker 3: myself with people who are pretty like minded and have
- 26:54Speaker 3: the similar goals and also the same values and morals
- 26:57Speaker 3: and things like that, and so if I'm sure, I'll
- 27:01Speaker 3: kind of like chat with them make sure I'm doing
- 27:02Speaker 3: the right thing. But it is a big part of
- 27:06Speaker 3: my brain, but it's not currently something I'm like big into.
- 27:15Speaker 3: Like basically I could go through my thing right now,
- 27:17Speaker 3: my shares is right now, I can't say with all
- 27:19Speaker 3: confidence that I'm not investing in something completely morally corrupt.
- 27:24Speaker 2: You haven't overlaid that into the way that you're making
- 27:26Speaker 2: your choice.
- 27:27Speaker 3: Yeah, but I also wouldn't be able to ignore it
- 27:29Speaker 3: if I knew. So if there's something that I know
- 27:31Speaker 3: for sure is I'm investing in something really bad or
- 27:35Speaker 3: investing in you know, the wrong areas or something, I
- 27:38Speaker 3: would not be able to ignore it. But not knowing
- 27:40Speaker 3: right now is a good strategy for me.
- 27:43Speaker 2: So like you wouldn't invest in like a gun company directly, Yeah,
- 27:46Speaker 2: you also wouldn't know if an ETF you hold might.
- 27:50Speaker 3: Do that exactly exactly. Actually, yeah, that's wow. I need
- 27:55Speaker 3: to look into that. That's good to know.
- 28:00Speaker 2: And yeah, that's exactly right. You were saying you talk
- 28:02Speaker 2: to your friends. When we were talking about the start
- 28:05Speaker 2: of your journey. You were saying, no one around you
- 28:07Speaker 2: except your brother was talking about investing or financeaging and
- 28:10Speaker 2: that stuff. Is that different now? Do more of your
- 28:12Speaker 2: friends invest or talk about money more openly or things
- 28:14Speaker 2: like that?
- 28:15Speaker 3: It's probably more about like the not so much as
- 28:18Speaker 3: the money thing in the investing thing, more about like
- 28:20Speaker 3: the companies or you know, like areas in which like
- 28:24Speaker 3: if I say I'm investing in ASX whatever, a friend
- 28:28Speaker 3: somewhere might know or that, do you know that they
- 28:31Speaker 3: invest in this or you know, so I have randomly
- 28:34Speaker 3: friends with random bits of knowledge or that they're into
- 28:37Speaker 3: investing or finances in that way. But they're fully across
- 28:41Speaker 3: who we should be boycotting right now, and who's investing
- 28:44Speaker 3: in really bad things and who funds really bad things,
- 28:47Speaker 3: Like they're all completely across, like the political side of investing. Yeah,
- 28:53Speaker 3: not that they are necessarily investing, you know what I mean?
- 28:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Do you know which of your investments has the best
- 28:58Speaker 2: return accuracy?
- 29:00Speaker 3: Yes, gene DX Holdings. I have no idea what that is.
- 29:06Speaker 3: Can you tell me more? I can it is? Uh,
- 29:08Speaker 3: let me quickly open it because I remember Victoria told
- 29:11Speaker 3: me once that Warren Buffett said, if you don't understand
- 29:15Speaker 3: the investment, then you should not be invested in it.
- 29:19Speaker 2: That's good advice.
- 29:20Speaker 3: That is good advice. And I don't fully understand investment.
- 29:22Speaker 3: But gene DX Holdings Corp. Is a genomics company genomics company.
- 29:29Speaker 3: The company operates through its subsidiary sor I'm not going
- 29:31Speaker 3: to read all that. It's focused on xome in genome
- 29:35Speaker 3: tests that translate complex genomic genomic data into clinical answers
- 29:40Speaker 3: that unlock personalized health plans.
- 29:42Speaker 4: Cool.
- 29:43Speaker 2: So it's like data research, yes, health genome stuff I
- 29:47Speaker 2: think is linked to like disease prevention. Yes, all that
- 29:51Speaker 2: sort of stuff.
- 29:52Speaker 3: I believe so, And like I thought it was like
- 29:54Speaker 3: something like genetic testing, but it could be completely wrong.
- 29:56Speaker 3: I'm not too sure, but something like that for some reason,
- 30:00Speaker 3: and it's doing so well and I wish.
- 30:01Speaker 2: You landed you up just out of cura.
- 30:03Speaker 3: Oh yes, Okay, this is going to blow your tits
- 30:07Speaker 3: clean off.
- 30:08Speaker 2: I only have someone's I need it.
- 30:11Speaker 3: Well, they're going to be gone after this episode. So
- 30:15Speaker 3: price change one hundred and ten percent. Wow, i put
- 30:19Speaker 3: seventy seven dollars in and I've got a return of
- 30:22Speaker 3: fifty four dollars. We've got one hundred and twenty six
- 30:24Speaker 3: dollars in this thing. And so it was that long ago,
- 30:27Speaker 3: and well I was a few months ago. But it
- 30:29Speaker 3: just keeps going up and up and up. There you go,
- 30:32Speaker 3: and I am just hoping that it stays that way.
- 30:36Speaker 3: So it's not advice because it's.
- 30:39Speaker 2: You're in research. Make sure it's right exactly.
- 30:41Speaker 3: Investing contains risk exactly, and I, unfortunately, I feel like
- 30:44Speaker 3: it's gone to its peak.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Well, yes, there is that the idea of but it
- 30:49Speaker 2: depends everything. If you can predict it, we'd all be rich.
- 30:53Speaker 3: Yes, well that's it.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Have you invested in anything that you wish that you hadn't.
- 30:56Speaker 3: I did invest in no offense to the company. I
- 31:00Speaker 3: don't understand this company. But basically my partner was really
- 31:03Speaker 3: cross with me because I could buy her gifts and
- 31:05Speaker 3: so I was like, well, instead of that, I'm going
- 31:06Speaker 3: to buy shares for you. And so I just like,
- 31:09Speaker 3: the only one that I could find that had like
- 31:10Speaker 3: a cute name was love a love company, Love's group
- 31:14Speaker 3: or something like that, and I put on Love. I
- 31:17Speaker 3: don't have no idea what love group is. I didn't
- 31:18Speaker 3: look into it. I just thought love is a cute word,
- 31:21Speaker 3: and that's what I'm looking for. And or I was
- 31:23Speaker 3: like baby something, but I like if I was baby bunting,
- 31:26Speaker 3: and I was like, I don't think that's the right vibe.
- 31:27Speaker 3: So I just went with Love Group and then I
- 31:28Speaker 3: put my money in there, and and then it's just
- 31:30Speaker 3: gone down and down and down, and uh, that's the
- 31:33Speaker 3: only thing I kind of regret. But it's still kind
- 31:36Speaker 3: of cute.
- 31:36Speaker 2: You're putting your investments in the way I would pick
- 31:38Speaker 2: like a racehorse.
- 31:41Speaker 3: Exactly exactly. But I think it's coming back. It's coming back.
- 31:44Speaker 3: So I feel like sometimes your gut or the name
- 31:48Speaker 3: of a company, if it's cute, you gotta just you
- 31:51Speaker 3: gotta go for it. It's going to pay off.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Probably do your in research. We just had a quick
- 31:57Speaker 2: producer am. I just did a quick google for us.
- 31:59Speaker 2: It's a dating part that is so cute.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Oh my god, that kind of works.
- 32:05Speaker 2: I mean, it does what you wanted it to do.
- 32:06Speaker 2: It's got the cute name, it's got a cute name.
- 32:09Speaker 2: So it's been a year now that you've been investing,
- 32:11Speaker 2: do you feel or think differently about it as a whole.
- 32:15Speaker 3: I think there's a part of me that's like, cute,
- 32:17Speaker 3: All well and good. I'm going to keep the money
- 32:20Speaker 3: is going to grow. But I think because it's like, oh,
- 32:23Speaker 3: it's a long term investment, you're not really going to
- 32:25Speaker 3: take shares out. I'm like, when do you take shares out?
- 32:27Speaker 3: You know what I mean? Like, will I be like
- 32:29Speaker 3: seventy and be like, it's I've hit It's not making
- 32:32Speaker 3: sense in my brain yet, Like I like, I know that.
- 32:35Speaker 3: I think it's same with savings and stuff. I'm like,
- 32:36Speaker 3: you save, you save, you save, and then when do
- 32:38Speaker 3: you spend well, it depends on your strategy. So for
- 32:42Speaker 3: a lot of people, the idea is that you reach
- 32:45Speaker 3: a point of investment that you have enough funds invested
- 32:47Speaker 3: that the dividends that you're paid is what you would
- 32:49Speaker 3: live off of.
- 32:50Speaker 2: So you you know, it's the math of it all
- 32:52Speaker 2: going okay, well, to live comfortably every year, I need
- 32:56Speaker 2: X amount of dollars. They explained this we did Victoria
- 32:59Speaker 2: did and investing with one ab out other team members
- 33:01Speaker 2: Brooke who's doing fire financial independence earlier and she spoke
- 33:05Speaker 2: about this. It's you work out what would you comfortably
- 33:07Speaker 2: live off of? Okay, I need seventy thousand dollars a
- 33:10Speaker 2: year to live and then you do the math backwards
- 33:12Speaker 2: and go, okay, well to earn dividends of around seventy
- 33:16Speaker 2: thousand dollars because obviously it's subject to market conditions, I
- 33:19Speaker 2: would need to have X amount of dollars invested, and
- 33:21Speaker 2: so that's their goal is to hit a point where
- 33:23Speaker 2: you would have enough invested that you are basically paid
- 33:27Speaker 2: a salary or an equivalent off to buy your dividends.
- 33:31Speaker 2: But for some people, they are investing with the purpose of,
- 33:34Speaker 2: you know, selling it down for a profit and using
- 33:36Speaker 2: that to pay for something. You know, everybody's strategy is different.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Okay, got you? Got you? Oh okay, because I'm.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Thinking You're like, I'm pulling it out next year.
- 33:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm like, okay, well then you make like X
- 33:50Speaker 3: amount and then you pull it all out and then
- 33:52Speaker 3: you I understand, now you don't do that. You can't.
- 33:56Speaker 2: It totally depends on your strategy, and I think for
- 33:58Speaker 2: someone like you, it's it's a really good exercise in
- 34:01Speaker 2: like discipline. And so if anything, I would be saying, no,
- 34:04Speaker 2: we don't want to pull it out, like we want
- 34:05Speaker 2: to see how far can you push it? Do you
- 34:07Speaker 2: want to see how big can it get?
- 34:08Speaker 3: Yeah? I kind of do want to see it.
- 34:10Speaker 2: So yourself a huge goal something that what feels what
- 34:12Speaker 2: would that amount be? If you could go, oh, if
- 34:14Speaker 2: I could have any amount invested, I would want it
- 34:16Speaker 2: to be this. What would that be for you?
- 34:18Speaker 3: Probably like one hundred thousand dollars.
- 34:22Speaker 2: That's a great goal.
- 34:24Speaker 3: Okay, so that's your goal probably, Like I'm thinking like
- 34:26Speaker 3: twenty thirty years.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Absolutely, I'm not sing whatever time frame works for you,
- 34:30Speaker 2: but like that's a great goal to have, and like that,
- 34:33Speaker 2: do you know what I mean? Now every time you go, oh,
- 34:34Speaker 2: I want to pull my money out, but think but
- 34:36Speaker 2: I want to get to a thousand dollars so close? Yeah, yeah,
- 34:41Speaker 2: fifty more years to go on.
- 34:42Speaker 3: More years and ninety nine thousand dollars more.
- 34:46Speaker 2: But it's achievable. Every little bit, every little bit counts exactly.
- 34:50Speaker 2: What is this last year of investing taught you?
- 34:52Speaker 3: It's taught me that that it actually I can kind
- 34:58Speaker 3: of see the thing that this whole investing thing like
- 35:02Speaker 3: does generate something. And I can understand now why Victoria
- 35:09Speaker 3: says like, if you want to access your savings, don't
- 35:13Speaker 3: put it in like shares, because there is ups and
- 35:17Speaker 3: downs and that money I'm now not actually going to
- 35:20Speaker 3: touch like I think before I used to think like
- 35:22Speaker 3: I'm going to put in there in a year, I'm
- 35:24Speaker 3: gonna hopefully double it, dig it out, and then spend
- 35:28Speaker 3: it on Christmas or something. But now I'm like, Okay,
- 35:31Speaker 3: it's it takes some time, and I'm going to leave
- 35:35Speaker 3: it for a while.
- 35:36Speaker 2: I'm proud of you.
- 35:37Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 35:37Speaker 2: You can talk to twenty twenty four back before she invested,
- 35:40Speaker 2: what would you say?
- 35:41Speaker 3: What would I tell her?
- 35:42Speaker 2: Don't put your money on love? Said on love?
- 35:45Speaker 3: I would say, you are probably going to think this
- 35:50Speaker 3: is going to make you more financially literate, but your
- 35:54Speaker 3: life outside of investment, investing in shares is going to
- 35:57Speaker 3: be exactly the same. But you're going to have us
- 36:00Speaker 3: safety blanket and it's going to feel good and live, love,
- 36:04Speaker 3: laugh as you always do and as you always will.
- 36:07Speaker 2: Oh brings a tear to the eye. Do you see
- 36:13Speaker 2: you're investing changing at all in twenty twenty six?
- 36:15Speaker 3: Well, now I'm thinking I want to like condense it
- 36:18Speaker 3: down a little bit because it is. I could tell
- 36:20Speaker 3: you it's stressful, having thirty six different things I could
- 36:22Speaker 3: put my money in it. I can't see it and
- 36:26Speaker 3: it makes sense because I would be like why is why?
- 36:28Speaker 3: Like it would just sit in my wallet for a
- 36:29Speaker 3: long time and I'd be like, I don't know where
- 36:31Speaker 3: to put it. I'm like, why do I struggle so
- 36:32Speaker 3: much with this? Like this like analysis paralysis? But I'm like, Okay,
- 36:36Speaker 3: it makes sense. Now there's so many things there.
- 36:38Speaker 2: I see, like thousands of things in the world too.
- 36:41Speaker 3: All that's so true. You know, where do you start?
- 36:43Speaker 3: So I think I'm just gonna like, I'm going to
- 36:45Speaker 3: like narrow it down but also explore and so maybe
- 36:49Speaker 3: I'll end up with more things that I'm investing in.
- 36:52Speaker 3: But I think I just want to, like, I'm just
- 36:54Speaker 3: going to keep putting money in. I'm not going to
- 36:55Speaker 3: put too much focus on it because then I might
- 36:58Speaker 3: I might end up like put all my buney in
- 37:00Speaker 3: there and then be like, oh I actually need that
- 37:02Speaker 3: money and then figuring out how to withdraw and then
- 37:04Speaker 3: withdrawing all the time. Yeah, and then end up with nothing.
- 37:07Speaker 3: So it's going to be a slow and steady for me. Yeah,
- 37:10Speaker 3: I think so incredible.
- 37:12Speaker 2: And then before we go, I have one last question,
- 37:14Speaker 2: please fun one, and I feel like the answer might
- 37:16Speaker 2: be a little bit broke. What is the weirdest or
- 37:18Speaker 2: funniest thing that you have Googled when it comes to investing.
- 37:24Speaker 3: I think it's a lot of like it's a lot
- 37:26Speaker 3: of what is you know, and honestly, probably just like
- 37:30Speaker 3: really silly things like my Google history is really crazy,
- 37:36Speaker 3: like the I don't want to I don't want anyone
- 37:39Speaker 3: to see, you know, for example, like I googled how
- 37:42Speaker 3: and I think I mentioned on the show, like how
- 37:43Speaker 3: does a pull ball know that the ball is white?
- 37:47Speaker 3: Like things that I'm just like so curious about that
- 37:49Speaker 3: have nothing to do with like kind of adding value
- 37:52Speaker 3: to my life or adding value to my shares or
- 37:54Speaker 3: adding value to anything. Like I'm pretty sure I googled,
- 37:57Speaker 3: like how do you gubble your money in? You know,
- 38:01Speaker 3: things that are really silly, that are really unrealistic, that
- 38:03Speaker 3: are really like I just to make sure to make sure,
- 38:07Speaker 3: because I think that a lot of us just want
- 38:08Speaker 3: to put money in something and then have it double.
- 38:12Speaker 3: But I've done a lot of googling on I've gone
- 38:14Speaker 3: on Reddit, like what's about to blow up? You know,
- 38:17Speaker 3: what's the next biggest thing? And they haven't all come
- 38:20Speaker 3: back with.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Anyone can give advice on the internet. It's very ironic
- 38:23Speaker 2: coming from me in this current position. But here we
- 38:25Speaker 2: are exactly exactly.
- 38:27Speaker 3: But I know that's not true. You're in the perfect
- 38:29Speaker 3: position to be Okay, Well.
- 38:32Speaker 2: Thank you Bex for volunteering to share your investing journey
- 38:35Speaker 2: and what's see today. It's been very fun, it's been
- 38:37Speaker 2: very true to you, and I think that for a
- 38:39Speaker 2: lot of people, you know, it is sometimes you just
- 38:42Speaker 2: jumping in with two feet and a lot of hope
- 38:44Speaker 2: and maybe not that much idea what you're doing. And
- 38:46Speaker 2: that's okay because look at how much progress you've made
- 38:48Speaker 2: over the past year, like you've done so much, You've
- 38:51Speaker 2: come so far. I'm so proud of you.
- 38:52Speaker 3: Thank you so much, and I'm sure there are lots
- 38:55Speaker 3: of people.
- 38:55Speaker 2: Listening who are going to feel really empowered to know
- 38:58Speaker 2: that they can do it too because of you.
- 39:00Speaker 3: Oh my god, that's so sweet. Thank you, Jess. I
- 39:01Speaker 3: really like, I'm so grateful. I feel like i've I've
- 39:04Speaker 3: I've taken up a whole episode. I feel very grateful
- 39:06Speaker 3: for that. So but hopefully we can have a whole
- 39:08Speaker 3: Jess episode talking about all the same things. Pass your
- 39:11Speaker 3: new house, et cetera, et cetera.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Oh give me stick with me about a time I've
- 39:14Speaker 2: done telling about all that. Thank you everybody for tuning in,
- 39:17Speaker 2: don't forget to subscribe to you can never miss an episode.
