- 0:00Today's episode is sponsored by my commitment to this podcast after waking up
- 0:04at 5am, working 13 hours, then schlepping a long way home to write and record this.
- 0:10It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year. Aubrey Plaza on being pregnant
- 0:15with her first baby with Chris Abbott after her husband committed suicide just last year.
- 0:21Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Starcast. I give you the news and maybe a laugh.
- 0:26I'm Lindsay Wernick and it's April 8th, 2026.
- 0:30Happy birthday to the best dad
- 0:32in the entire world and I know right now
- 0:35you're thinking well how does she know my dad
- 0:38she's never even met him anymore why does she think he's the best dad well obviously
- 0:43I'm not talking about your dad I'm talking about my dad Rich he is the best
- 0:48and today he is turning a very young number and he is the best dad because he
- 0:55puts up with me with all my shit,
- 0:57and he puts up with a lot of shit in his life,
- 1:00and I'm really proud to call him my dad.
- 1:04Like, imagine being my parent. Yeah, we'll just leave it at that. So, in real news.
- 1:10So, just last night, the U.S. and Iran agreed to a last-second ceasefire,
- 1:14literally hours after Trump threatened to wipe out Iran's entire civilization.
- 1:20He was like, okay, just LOL, jk on that one standard negotiation tactics start
- 1:26you know with the biggest threat and then just like like just reel it back in
- 1:30and be like actually no that was crazy and.
- 1:33The deal was brokered with help from Pakistan, who basically stepped in like
- 1:37a friend breaking up a bar fight and was just like, everyone take a breath,
- 1:40put the weapons down, and maybe like let's not destroy any countries.
- 1:45Under the agreement, Iran will allow safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz,
- 1:50which is kind of a big deal considering it's one of the most important oil routes
- 1:54in the world and the reason why gas prices are like insanely high right now.
- 1:59Israel's also getting in on this little deal, and they're pausing their strikes,
- 2:03meaning for the next two weeks, everyone is theoretically not attacking each other.
- 2:09The markets immediately reacted to all of this. Oil prices have already dropped,
- 2:13and the stocks jumped too.
- 2:15That said, the strikes were still being reported after the ceasefire was announced.
- 2:20So maybe we'll just give them the benefit of the doubt, and they didn't check
- 2:24their email, that gets over, or they're just being that crazy girl that just
- 2:29keeps going even when they're told to stop.
- 2:31The bottom line is here, we've got a two-week timeout on what was becoming basically World War III.
- 2:39Which is great, but it also feels a little pause on the whole thing.
- 2:44So I don't know if you remember or if you listened, I think it was this past week.
- 2:50I could have even covered it yesterday. I don't know. Sorry.
- 2:53My brain is absolutely fried.
- 2:55But essentially, there was this big music festival happened in London called the Wireless Festival.
- 3:01And Pepsi was the major sponsor. And
- 3:04then when they found out that Kanye West or Ye or
- 3:07whatever he goes by now was headlining they were
- 3:10like oh hell no and pulled out and then like a million other sponsors pulled
- 3:15out and then the head of the whole festival made this whole statement like I
- 3:21guys like we we deserve to give people second chances and I'm Jewish and I'm
- 3:26giving him a second chance and like we all should give him a second chance.
- 3:30Like, dude, are you really willing to tie yourself to Kanye West?
- 3:34Like, you're really going to leave it all out for him? Just put it all out on
- 3:38the line for Kanye West. Okay.
- 3:40But then, plot twist, the UK government just pulled his entry last minute.
- 3:46The reasoning was his presence wasn't conducive to the public good,
- 3:51which is literally them just saying, like, it would be really bad if he came here, obviously.
- 3:57So now the whole festival is canceled, and this head of the festival looks like
- 4:02a freaking idiot, right?
- 4:04Meanwhile, in North Korea, there's a lot of succession planning going on.
- 4:10King Jong-un's daughter, King Jun-ae, has been increasingly showcased at military
- 4:16events, and now South Korea's intelligence agency believes she's being positioned as his successor.
- 4:23It's really giving Mulan fives right now.
- 4:27Like, she's been coming to missile tests, military parades, and now she's been seen in a tank.
- 4:33It's a very curated, look who's next moment.
- 4:37There's been no official confirmation from North Korea, but,
- 4:41I mean, this is speaking a lot.
- 4:44And in a country where literally nothing is accidental, repeated public appearances
- 4:49like this are basically a billboard.
- 4:51This is also a very big deal because North Korea has never had a female leader.
- 4:56I mean, duh. So this will be really big.
- 4:59I mean, at least North Korea is evolving, right?
- 5:02In Lindsay life, as I mentioned, I am back at my parents' right now.
- 5:06I'm down producing on a TV show nearby.
- 5:10So I'm living in Philly where my parents are, and I stopped at Wawa to get a
- 5:13sandwich. I could not believe it was literally $6.
- 5:18That's like the price of like less than half a sandwich in New York. Crazy.
- 5:24Which makes me miss New York so much more, which is so toxic.
- 5:29Things I'm thinking about. How people will let me reintroduce myself to them
- 5:33over and over again, and then let me have the same exact conversation with them over and over again.
- 5:41Cooking tip of the day. You can make string beans for lunch and for dinner,
- 5:46but most definitely not for breakfast.
- 5:49Feedback, comments, questions, and nice Jewish by looking for a date,
- 5:52email me at lindsay at thedailystarcast.com.
- 5:54Thank you guys so much for listening if you made it to the end of this.
- 5:58Sorry, it's so chaotic. I am so exhausted, and I promise tomorrow and the rest
- 6:02of this week will be a lot better.
