- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, my name's Santasha Nabananga Bamblet. I'm a proud or
- 0:04Speaker 1: the Order Kerni Whaltbury and a waddery woman. And before
- 0:08Speaker 1: we get started on She's on the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money, She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Hello and welcome to She's on the Money the pod.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Ask the makes personal finance fun, especially on Fridays. It's
- 1:04Speaker 2: our favorite day of the week because we get the
- 1:06Speaker 2: team together and we get to celebrate you our incredible
- 1:09Speaker 2: She's on the Money community. MS just Griccy She's here
- 1:12Speaker 2: as always sharing our favorite money wins.
- 1:15Speaker 1: MS.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Bechsay Ed is going to be sharing her broke tips
- 1:17Speaker 2: and we're going to be helping to answer a money dilemma.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Should you be topping up your super especially if you've
- 1:23Speaker 2: taken money out and something that you slid into our
- 1:26Speaker 2: DMS about how to get out of a comparison spiral
- 1:29Speaker 2: with your friends, which I feel like is so relevant,
- 1:32Speaker 2: especially at the moment. Everything is so challenging at the moment,
- 1:37Speaker 2: and then what do we do when things are challenging?
- 1:39Speaker 2: We look over the fence and we go, well, what's
- 1:42Speaker 2: Beck doing? Man? Oh, she looks like she's thriving, but
- 1:45Speaker 2: I'm so stressed. Beck stressed as well. We're stressed out here, guys.
- 1:49Speaker 2: So that's a really good one. How have your.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Week's been, I think good. Lots of birthdays galore coming up.
- 1:58Speaker 2: That it's my birthday soon, so excited. I know what happens. Yeah,
- 2:02Speaker 2: my birthday happens. Then just as birthday happens, and.
- 2:05Speaker 5: Then mine because the thirtieth of July. Yeah, we're like
- 2:09Speaker 5: yeah a month literally just yeah? Is that perfect?
- 2:12Speaker 4: Yeah? Which is fun?
- 2:13Speaker 2: I love this. A cancer Leo, No, she wouldn't be
- 2:16Speaker 2: a cancer. She doesn't fall into that because she's at
- 2:18Speaker 2: the end of July.
- 2:19Speaker 5: You as a cancer?
- 2:20Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Babies. In fact, I think most people in our office
- 2:24Speaker 2: are and it's low key terrifying. And then when we
- 2:27Speaker 2: did the like mayas Briggs Typology Indicator test and we
- 2:30Speaker 2: all have the same personality as well, and I just
- 2:32Speaker 2: don't know what that says about us. It's getting a cult,
- 2:35Speaker 2: it's getting vibes. If you aren't a Cancrian, you can't
- 2:40Speaker 2: go here. But also we're the worst. Cancerrians are the worst. Sorry,
- 2:46Speaker 2: is it okay? I'm not you can be a Leo.
- 2:48Speaker 2: It's actually dead for you. Thank you.
- 2:50Speaker 4: How's your weeking?
- 2:51Speaker 2: Really nice?
- 2:52Speaker 5: I'm really excited for tax time because I got a
- 2:58Speaker 5: feeling it's gonna be good.
- 2:59Speaker 2: But also I didn't know. I don't know.
- 3:00Speaker 5: I don't understand how anything works. But other than that,
- 3:03Speaker 5: honestly chill weak. I feel like I'm getting back into
- 3:07Speaker 5: the group of things. Like a couple of weeks ago,
- 3:08Speaker 5: I was in Brisbane, and I gotta say, like, there's
- 3:11Speaker 5: something so weird about being around people who don't know
- 3:17Speaker 5: the context of you. And because I feel like I
- 3:20Speaker 5: can be quite maybe like either really shy or really
- 3:23Speaker 5: jarring and no in between, and so I think that
- 3:26Speaker 5: it's really nice to be around people who know the
- 3:29Speaker 5: context of me again. And I'm feeling right at home
- 3:33Speaker 5: and comfy and cozy and very very cold. What about UVD.
- 3:42Speaker 2: I'm just mad about the cold. If I'm being honest,
- 3:45Speaker 2: like you would think that I would be better versed
- 3:48Speaker 2: at this and have had more experience. No from Tasmania.
- 3:54Speaker 2: It's cold. It's cold, and I would like to complain
- 3:56Speaker 2: about it and allowed to feel heard.
- 3:58Speaker 4: You're allowed that. It's something about Melbourne cold is very cold,
- 4:01Speaker 4: because I've seen a fews from people who are from
- 4:03Speaker 4: Europe where obviously snows and stuff, which we don't really get,
- 4:06Speaker 4: at least.
- 4:06Speaker 2: In I feel like we get the crap cold jets.
- 4:09Speaker 4: Well people are saying even though they're used to that
- 4:11Speaker 4: type of weather, they're still they're feeling the Melbourne.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Cold, which I was interesting, having had the privilege of travel.
- 4:18Speaker 2: When you're overseas and it's snowing, it's real dry like
- 4:22Speaker 2: it's dry cold. You can actually like wrap up and
- 4:25Speaker 2: feel like warm with your puffer on. But I feel
- 4:28Speaker 2: like I go out in my pafa and it's like
- 4:30Speaker 2: this dampness that kind of feels like it gets in
- 4:33Speaker 2: your bones. In Melbourne, it's not. It's like a humid cold.
- 4:37Speaker 2: I don't know how to explain it.
- 4:39Speaker 4: I don't know. I like it the cold to the
- 4:42Speaker 4: James Last night in bed, I was like, I'm freezing
- 4:44Speaker 4: to the bone.
- 4:45Speaker 2: But we all know Jess would have been in bed
- 4:47Speaker 2: with her two wheaty packs.
- 4:49Speaker 4: I was between them. He came to it after me.
- 4:52Speaker 4: He was cold, and he was like touching me because
- 4:54Speaker 4: I was a woman, and I was like, get away.
- 4:56Speaker 2: But when my husband gets in bed, I put my
- 4:58Speaker 2: feet on him and he's always like those feet of me,
- 5:01Speaker 2: And I'm like, but this is why I got married.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the whole point.
- 5:04Speaker 2: This is a right off passage here my bed. Otherwise
- 5:08Speaker 2: you are the warm anyway, would you guys like to
- 5:11Speaker 2: hear a beautiful five star review?
- 5:14Speaker 4: Absolutely?
- 5:14Speaker 1: All right.
- 5:15Speaker 2: So this one's from Mitch and he says I would
- 5:18Speaker 2: normally fall into the He's on the Money category, but
- 5:22Speaker 2: I've been listening to She's on the Money since I
- 5:24Speaker 2: heard VD on the My Millennial Money podcast with Glennie
- 5:26Speaker 2: James about maybe the eighth of May twenty one. Very
- 5:31Speaker 2: he said, and that means it's been just over four
- 5:34Speaker 2: years now. Wow. She's on the Money is a great
- 5:37Speaker 2: place to listen, learn and understand all things money, finance,
- 5:41Speaker 2: some good life hacks, and some generally good stuff, even
- 5:44Speaker 2: some great coverage on the federal budget. Win Kemoji. I
- 5:48Speaker 2: have shared many episodes with my friends and family because
- 5:51Speaker 2: it's just great content. Thanks so much. V Jess and
- 5:54Speaker 2: Beck love the Apps. Also love the banter Son. Thank you.
- 6:00Speaker 5: Yes, seriously, there's something really really lovely about Like it's like,
- 6:04Speaker 5: and I don't know if this analogy is going to
- 6:06Speaker 5: land very well, but it's like when your parents take
- 6:10Speaker 5: on your advice. It's like, you know, historically we've been
- 6:13Speaker 5: maybe men think that they know more about money and
- 6:15Speaker 5: stuff like that, and so when when when a guy listens,
- 6:17Speaker 5: it really means so much more to me. I don't
- 6:19Speaker 5: know if it's so nice, it's really really nice, like
- 6:22Speaker 5: thank you so much, like we like Victoria really does
- 6:24Speaker 5: know her shit, like it's really too at least, and
- 6:27Speaker 5: you guys fooled, So thank you so much for listening.
- 6:30Speaker 5: You are so welcome here and we are so.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Happy to have you. She and Cheese on the Money
- 6:34Speaker 2: is in our community. That's us, that's the she on
- 6:37Speaker 2: the show. And then everybody else is welcome. Yes, they're
- 6:40Speaker 2: all friends here, and I think that that's the best part.
- 6:42Speaker 2: So I love that one because it was such a
- 6:45Speaker 2: nice review, but also it just reminds people that like
- 6:47Speaker 2: this community, everyone's welcome as long as they're a nice person.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Otherwise get out. That's so nice, Miss Jessic Richie. Have
- 6:56Speaker 2: you got some money wins or even confessions for us
- 6:59Speaker 2: this week?
- 7:00Speaker 4: You know that I do so when I start off
- 7:01Speaker 4: this week with a good one from Louise who said
- 7:03Speaker 4: money win, I stuffed up and for good to cancel
- 7:05Speaker 4: an annual subscription to a streaming service which I had
- 7:08Speaker 4: renewed a week ago. She said they're renovating and they're
- 7:11Speaker 4: on reduced internet for the next twelve months. So she
- 7:15Speaker 4: messaged them and explained the situation and said she'd love
- 7:17Speaker 4: to come back in the future if she could. The
- 7:19Speaker 4: company refunded her the full annual fee straightaway, no questions asked.
- 7:25Speaker 2: How could is that?
- 7:26Speaker 1: Also?
- 7:26Speaker 2: Donus don't get.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Exactly right now, don't get and also reminder to check
- 7:30Speaker 4: your annual subscriptions and put them in your calendar so
- 7:32Speaker 4: you know when they're coming up. Next up, I've got
- 7:34Speaker 4: a money win from m who said money win. I
- 7:37Speaker 4: needed four new tires for my car and was quoted
- 7:39Speaker 4: four hundred and eighty dollars per tire.
- 7:43Speaker 2: That so much tires costs Rubbi. They are rubber guys.
- 7:46Speaker 4: She saw an ad from My Car who were doing
- 7:49Speaker 4: a one day forty percent off into financial year sale,
- 7:52Speaker 4: so she managed to get better branded tires for two
- 7:55Speaker 4: hundred and seventy three dollars each, which meant she saved
- 7:57Speaker 4: herself a whoppy eight hundred and thirty eight dollars for
- 8:00Speaker 4: all four moneys.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I didn't know that was a thing we need, did I?
- 8:06Speaker 2: And next time I need tires, I'm going to be
- 8:08Speaker 2: looking because they're so expensive.
- 8:11Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 8:11Speaker 4: And then that's one of those things like I don't
- 8:13Speaker 4: want to spend money on it, but like I have
- 8:15Speaker 4: to spend money on it.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Also it's about safety, so I'm like, oh, it separates
- 8:19Speaker 2: you from the road like that.
- 8:20Speaker 5: I guess that's one hundred.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Next, I've got a money win from Alissa, who said
- 8:25Speaker 4: she had groceries delivered to her place by accident, but
- 8:27Speaker 4: the driver had left before she realized. She would have
- 8:30Speaker 4: felt so awkward wall to let them know, and they
- 8:33Speaker 4: said that the order had likely been refunded or redelivered
- 8:36Speaker 4: so she could keep them. She said she got twelve
- 8:38Speaker 4: bags of groceries.
- 8:40Speaker 2: To be what she said, it was like hitting the
- 8:42Speaker 2: jackpot would have been hitting the jackpot, and you would
- 8:44Speaker 2: have been going through and be like, oh eggs this
- 8:46Speaker 2: whoever ordered dislikes the good brand, or they bought the
- 8:48Speaker 2: Joshes Ones. It's like a blind box, but adult version
- 8:53Speaker 2: actually want the stuff inside one hundred someone went through
- 8:57Speaker 2: and curated their grocery list and then you got it.
- 8:59Speaker 4: Yeah, may that kind of love find me genuinely putting
- 9:02Speaker 4: it out into the unis. Next, I've got a money
- 9:05Speaker 4: in from Asmina, who said she bought a bed frame
- 9:07Speaker 4: from Temble and Webster and while it was in transit
- 9:10Speaker 4: to her house, she noticed that it went on sale.
- 9:12Speaker 4: She emailed them to politely ask for a refund of
- 9:15Speaker 4: the difference and they credit it to her account within
- 9:17Speaker 4: a couple of days.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Beautiful money win again, don't ask, don't get genuinely.
- 9:22Speaker 4: And then last one from me this week, I've got
- 9:24Speaker 4: from Sarah who said money in. I found ten dollars
- 9:27Speaker 4: in a pocket of an old winter jacket.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Oh it made me maybe a bit.
- 9:31Speaker 4: I'll like surprise myself for next year, like once winter's over,
- 9:34Speaker 4: just squirrel something away in a pocket with like maybe
- 9:37Speaker 4: like you're doing great, sweetie, And ten dollars and then
- 9:39Speaker 4: I'll find it.
- 9:40Speaker 2: I'm still talking to you at the time that I
- 9:42Speaker 2: found a twenty dollar note in my ski pants.
- 9:44Speaker 4: So good, so nice.
- 9:46Speaker 2: I still talk about it. I'm like that was that
- 9:48Speaker 2: was amazing, That feeling was amazing.
- 9:49Speaker 4: There's nothing better than surprise money.
- 9:51Speaker 5: And check your pockets before you take things to the
- 9:53Speaker 5: op Chop because people you can find money in those things.
- 9:56Speaker 5: So check the opshop pockets and also the pockets.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Of can you check op Chop pockets at the shop
- 10:03Speaker 2: seeing the outfit.
- 10:04Speaker 4: I've seen mixedures to keep things because you know those
- 10:07Speaker 4: stories where someone was like, oh, I bought like a
- 10:09Speaker 4: jewelry box, then you know, got at home and opened
- 10:11Speaker 4: it up and it was like your jewelry and stuff
- 10:14Speaker 4: like that.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I just I don't know where the line is.
- 10:17Speaker 2: I just I don't know. But like, if you find
- 10:19Speaker 2: ten bucks in a pocket at the op shop but
- 10:22Speaker 2: you didn't buy the outfit, what do you do, Jess?
- 10:24Speaker 4: I'll probably give you the shop.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Of course you're so huge.
- 10:28Speaker 4: It's not I'm not out of pocket, just financially.
- 10:32Speaker 2: No, we all know Jess is better than everybody. She
- 10:36Speaker 2: doesn't know to be.
- 10:36Speaker 5: We just know she is, Yeah, you actually are.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Just what else have you got for us?
- 10:40Speaker 4: That's it for me this day?
- 10:41Speaker 2: It's alright, is your time to shine, Misspecs. You're broke
- 10:46Speaker 2: chips really quickly?
- 10:46Speaker 5: You have money when and that is obviously shot Back related.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Paying you on the side by chance, because I feel
- 10:53Speaker 2: like shot Back had been sliding into your DMS. Because
- 10:55Speaker 2: you know, my friend in a very committed relationship with them.
- 10:59Speaker 2: I wouldn't be mad, but we just need to be transparent.
- 11:02Speaker 1: You know.
- 11:03Speaker 5: I am obsessed to shop Back, so I know, but
- 11:04Speaker 5: they're not paying you. They're not they're not behaving.
- 11:08Speaker 2: And guess if you're listening to this, call me please,
- 11:11Speaker 2: I'm obsessed. But no.
- 11:13Speaker 5: Well, I was telling BD that I'm going to Thailand
- 11:15Speaker 5: and I bought hotels.
- 11:17Speaker 2: I kind of low key love it.
- 11:18Speaker 5: I bought hotels, but I did it. I was sorry,
- 11:20Speaker 5: one hotel and do through after pay. So I was like, well,
- 11:23Speaker 5: I've forced myself to go even though I haven't saved
- 11:25Speaker 5: for it. But I did through shop Back and it's
- 11:27Speaker 5: like I get like, I've got like fifty bucks back
- 11:31Speaker 5: and then they do arlo on Shopback, which is like
- 11:33Speaker 5: the e sim they do travel insurance. God, sorry, I
- 11:36Speaker 5: stop talking about shop back back.
- 11:37Speaker 2: We should try and plan like a holiday soon, yes,
- 11:40Speaker 2: so that we can like contact all of these travel
- 11:42Speaker 2: brands and be like, what a coincidence. We should work together.
- 11:45Speaker 4: If anyone like to send Team Shees and the money
- 11:47Speaker 4: on a holiday, yeah, figure it out.
- 11:49Speaker 2: For looking at you, United in virgin again.
- 11:53Speaker 4: We wouldn't hate it if somebody has to.
- 11:56Speaker 2: If someone we would be grateful.
- 12:00Speaker 5: And you know the content you will get out of us.
- 12:02Speaker 5: We'll do anything for you already work for free back
- 12:06Speaker 5: apparently exactly.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Wow.
- 12:09Speaker 5: Yeah, I really should stop mentioning them until they send
- 12:12Speaker 5: me something.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Like shop back this is a free trial.
- 12:14Speaker 5: Yeah, and honestly, just send me one chopp a chop
- 12:16Speaker 5: and I would be happy.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Is it chopp a chop in my bag? If you
- 12:19Speaker 2: want it? Coke?
- 12:20Speaker 5: Please?
- 12:20Speaker 2: What you say? Sorry, I've got a chap a champ
- 12:21Speaker 2: in my bag if you wanted. I think there's a cokequin.
- 12:24Speaker 5: Oh my god, Oh my god, oh my god. Access
- 12:26Speaker 5: so happy right now. I was so excited. That's all
- 12:27Speaker 5: I'm going to think about for the rest of you
- 12:29Speaker 5: can collect it from a bag on your except you
- 12:31Speaker 5: so much, Okay, Broke tips. This first one comes from Emma,
- 12:35Speaker 5: who said that she went to two phone companies in person.
- 12:39Speaker 5: For her, it was Optus and then she went to Telstra,
- 12:41Speaker 5: but then got home and chatted to Optus online. She
- 12:44Speaker 5: was in a nine year contract to them, so she
- 12:46Speaker 5: asked me put through to their loyalty team and basically,
- 12:50Speaker 5: long story short, they offered her ten dollars off her
- 12:53Speaker 5: plan per month. She said that she would sign up
- 12:56Speaker 5: at that exact moment if they made it tween dollars
- 12:58Speaker 5: off a month, and they did so, now you're saving
- 13:01Speaker 5: a year and didn't even have to change providers, which
- 13:03Speaker 5: I think of the.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Votophone is going to be so annoyed that we're sharing
- 13:06Speaker 2: that because people are going to slide into their DMS. Yeah,
- 13:08Speaker 2: and like that's fine, you guys get that bank and
- 13:11Speaker 2: be like but I know you did it for someone
- 13:13Speaker 2: else totally totally.
- 13:15Speaker 5: And that's the thing with like, I think phone providers
- 13:17Speaker 5: as well my mie student all the time, and I'm like,
- 13:19Speaker 5: I would not have the.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Audacity speaking engagement. Earlier this month, actually, Votaphone have their
- 13:24Speaker 2: small business summit, so I was in Sydney earlier this
- 13:27Speaker 2: month speaking for them, so voter phone. I do adore you.
- 13:31Speaker 2: I know that we've got a close relationship, but I'm
- 13:33Speaker 2: really sorry. If there is a good money win for
- 13:35Speaker 2: my community, we're gonna still share it. We're gonna share it.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Sorry about it now.
- 13:40Speaker 5: This next one comes from Ella because I see that
- 13:42Speaker 5: there's a broke tips thing on the ses of money scheduled.
- 13:46Speaker 2: It every single week. Oh my god, we're going to
- 13:49Speaker 2: be sharing broke tips and Beck gets to pour over
- 13:52Speaker 2: all of the comments and then pull the best ones. Yes,
- 13:55Speaker 2: and I want those who didn't get picked to know
- 13:58Speaker 2: that I really appreciate it. They probably will come at
- 14:01Speaker 2: some point.
- 14:01Speaker 5: Oh girl.
- 14:02Speaker 2: The community just thrives off the fact that they can
- 14:04Speaker 2: read through hundreds of comments, like whether they end up
- 14:08Speaker 2: on the pod or not.
- 14:09Speaker 5: God, it's useful.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 14:10Speaker 5: So the second one comes from Ella, who says that
- 14:13Speaker 5: she's on medication that is not on PBS and it
- 14:15Speaker 5: is quite expensive. She discussed with the pharmacisty at like
- 14:19Speaker 5: the double the dose. So it's like if you have,
- 14:21Speaker 5: like it's five milligram to make it ten and then
- 14:24Speaker 5: you buy half, does that make sense?
- 14:25Speaker 2: Yeah? Absolutely. My GP actually mentioned this to Yeah the
- 14:28Speaker 2: other week. So carry on with that and then I'll
- 14:30Speaker 2: tell you about Greg.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I know.
- 14:33Speaker 5: Basically she just said, make sure you talk to your
- 14:34Speaker 5: doctor or pharmacist before you do this, because some medications
- 14:38Speaker 5: can't be hard. I guess if it's like maybe you
- 14:40Speaker 5: know those tablets is like American tablets. Yeah, like the
- 14:43Speaker 5: capsules too hard, but like those white ones, like a paracetamol,
- 14:47Speaker 5: you can split in half half, so that would save
- 14:51Speaker 5: you a little bit of money.
- 14:52Speaker 2: As if it's not absolutely does so my GP Greg
- 14:55Speaker 2: shout out to Greg. He is very impressive. And the
- 14:58Speaker 2: other day I was on the phone team because I
- 14:59Speaker 2: just a telehealth appointment and I was asking for like
- 15:02Speaker 2: a script, and he said, do you still do that
- 15:04Speaker 2: little podcast if you're soon? Said yep, do Greg? Absolutely.
- 15:07Speaker 2: He said, well, I've got a money in for you.
- 15:10Speaker 2: He's like, I have been giving you every single time
- 15:13Speaker 2: you get your scripts two months supply instead of one month.
- 15:16Speaker 2: And I was like, oh, I just thought that they're
- 15:19Speaker 2: like I didn't question it. I just thought that the
- 15:21Speaker 2: chemist had been like taping two boxes together for me
- 15:25Speaker 2: and just like giving it to me. But he's like, no, Victoria,
- 15:28Speaker 2: that was me. I've been giving you a two month
- 15:30Speaker 2: supply every time you go and pick it up because
- 15:32Speaker 2: it's cheaper. So if you tell your community to ask
- 15:36Speaker 2: your GP to give you a two month supply instead
- 15:38Speaker 2: of a one month supply, it will be less. And
- 15:40Speaker 2: I was like, oh, that's a really good one. And
- 15:41Speaker 2: he said, also if you take any over the counter medication,
- 15:45Speaker 2: So if you're going to the pharmacy and asking for
- 15:48Speaker 2: like creams or medications that are just behind the counter
- 15:52Speaker 2: but you don't need a script for he said, sometimes
- 15:55Speaker 2: if you ask your GP for a script for it,
- 15:57Speaker 2: it then falls onto the PBS and you get it cheaper. Oh,
- 16:01Speaker 2: so shout out to Greg.
- 16:02Speaker 4: I love Greg.
- 16:03Speaker 2: We love Greg the Little podcast last Greg. I've been
- 16:05Speaker 2: my GP for like ten years and like he's the best.
- 16:09Speaker 5: He sounds sweet, my god, this is so.
- 16:11Speaker 2: And also sorry. He takes every single concern I've ever
- 16:14Speaker 2: had very seriously. Oh that's good. Anytime I'm like, oh,
- 16:17Speaker 2: I don't like this, He's like, we'll get to the
- 16:19Speaker 2: bottom of it. Victoria, that's what we want to hear,
- 16:21Speaker 2: that's what that's what we want. Don't be dismissive anyway,
- 16:25Speaker 2: be more like Greg. What else if you got more
- 16:27Speaker 2: like Greg?
- 16:28Speaker 5: And then my broke tip. I don't use chat GPT.
- 16:33Speaker 5: I want to preface I don't use it. I don't
- 16:37Speaker 5: you know, there's some things that I anyway, I don't
- 16:39Speaker 5: love it. But anyway, apparently if you use chat GPT,
- 16:43Speaker 5: you can ask it to get you, like find you
- 16:47Speaker 5: discount code. Absolutely can a specific website or like maybe
- 16:51Speaker 5: just in general. I'm not really sure you can ask
- 16:53Speaker 5: it for anything then anything. So if you're like, I
- 16:56Speaker 5: really want this lamb from Ventin and Venton, please find
- 16:59Speaker 5: me a discount code.
- 17:00Speaker 2: You can also say when do you think their next
- 17:02Speaker 2: sale is going to be? And I could say, well,
- 17:04Speaker 2: actually their last sale was here, and last year in
- 17:07Speaker 2: October they went on sale for up to forty percent off,
- 17:09Speaker 2: so you might want to hold off. Victoria. Oh my god,
- 17:12Speaker 2: wild Yes, so much smarter than I'll ever be. Whoa,
- 17:15Speaker 2: that is really cool. It's low key terrifying, I know, but.
- 17:19Speaker 5: Also like really cool. Anyway, Maybe I will ask about
- 17:21Speaker 5: Fenton and Fenter later, but anyway, so that is my
- 17:24Speaker 5: broke tip for this week.
- 17:27Speaker 2: I love that. All right, Well, I think that that's
- 17:30Speaker 2: where we're going to put a pin in it. We're
- 17:31Speaker 2: going to go to a break because on the flip side.
- 17:33Speaker 2: We're going to be talking about whether you should be
- 17:35Speaker 2: topping up your superannuation because a lot of you in
- 17:38Speaker 2: the community during COVID took some money out and something
- 17:41Speaker 2: that you just lead into our DMS about. We're chatting
- 17:43Speaker 2: about how to get out of that comparison spiral with
- 17:46Speaker 2: your friends, which I think is going to be really relatable.
- 17:48Speaker 2: So guys, don't go anywhere. Welcome back, everybody. Let's take
- 17:56Speaker 2: a listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma you just
- 18:02Speaker 3: can't solve that. She's on the Money Team is here
- 18:05Speaker 3: to help.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Every week we tackle your dilemmas, both big and small,
- 18:09Speaker 2: to answer your most burning money, career and life questions.
- 18:12Speaker 2: To get involved, simply head to our website and leave
- 18:15Speaker 2: us a short voice recording and you might just find
- 18:17Speaker 2: yourself on the show. Now, let's take a listen to
- 18:20Speaker 2: this week's money dilemma.
- 18:23Speaker 6: Hello, She's on the Money Team. I'm just reaching out
- 18:26Speaker 6: because I have a money dilemma that I would love
- 18:28Speaker 6: some advice on. So through COVID, I did take advantage
- 18:32Speaker 6: of the twenty thousand dollars that you could take, and
- 18:35Speaker 6: I did use it to pay off all of my
- 18:38Speaker 6: car loan, which I don't regret because it has put
- 18:41Speaker 6: me in a much better financial precision even to this day.
- 18:45Speaker 6: I guess my question is is that I am coming
- 18:47Speaker 6: into a large amoun of money early next year and
- 18:50Speaker 6: I'm not sure if I should be putting that twenty
- 18:52Speaker 6: thousand dollars back into SUPER or if I should be
- 18:56Speaker 6: putting it elsewhere.
- 18:57Speaker 2: A little background is.
- 18:59Speaker 6: I do vest with shares is and also raise. I
- 19:03Speaker 6: do have a healthy emergency fund and I'm almost finished
- 19:07Speaker 6: with my house deposit, but that payout will support that,
- 19:11Speaker 6: and also putting twenty thousand in SUPER if that's the
- 19:14Speaker 6: right thing to do. I would really love some advice
- 19:17Speaker 6: to see what your opinions are with what I should
- 19:20Speaker 6: do with that or if I should be redeploying it elsewhere.
- 19:25Speaker 6: I really appreciate you listening to this, and I can't
- 19:27Speaker 6: wait to hear your feedback. Thank you so much.
- 19:29Speaker 2: By Oh you sound so kind. Yeah, what do you guys? Reckon?
- 19:36Speaker 2: I used to work for a SUPER company.
- 19:38Speaker 5: Come on back, I know, well, I think you should.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Well, this is what I would do.
- 19:45Speaker 5: I would put it back in SUPER as a personal
- 19:49Speaker 5: contribution that is a after tax contribution and then claim
- 19:54Speaker 5: that back on tax and then maybe you get some
- 19:58Speaker 5: of that back and then you can do whatever.
- 20:00Speaker 2: You get fifteen percent back because most people in our
- 20:04Speaker 2: community are on a marginal tax bracket of about thirty percent.
- 20:08Speaker 2: And if you're not capping out your contributions, which is
- 20:11Speaker 2: at thirty thousand dollars, the superanuation environment's tax rate is
- 20:16Speaker 2: fifteen percent, so come tax time, she would get fifteen
- 20:19Speaker 2: percent tax back.
- 20:20Speaker 5: True, but there is a there is a personal contribution.
- 20:25Speaker 5: I think there's a there's a tax specifically the amount
- 20:28Speaker 5: that you can claim back on tax.
- 20:30Speaker 2: I think up to thirty thousand dollars up to three
- 20:32Speaker 2: thousand on tax.
- 20:33Speaker 5: Okay, there you go.
- 20:34Speaker 2: That's the cap. So anything above and beyond that becomes marginal,
- 20:38Speaker 2: like defaults back to marginal tax bracket. You don't get
- 20:41Speaker 2: to percent tax rate.
- 20:42Speaker 5: So I mean, that's what I if I had the
- 20:45Speaker 5: money too, But I was given that kind of money
- 20:47Speaker 5: right now, it would not be going into super I would.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Be spending it on Thailand.
- 20:51Speaker 5: Absolute absolutely, But yeah, if I was in a good place,
- 20:55Speaker 5: maybe I would do that.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Thailand has the best food. I can't wait for you honestly,
- 21:00Speaker 2: Island is one of the most underrated travel locations. I reckon, Yeah, okay,
- 21:04Speaker 2: so well priced, like I would say, so cheap, so
- 21:07Speaker 2: cultural that the people are so friendly, like I've been before.
- 21:11Speaker 2: I adaughed it. I can't wait anyway. Side note, I'm
- 21:13Speaker 2: so excited, Jess, what would you do about the super question?
- 21:17Speaker 2: Have you been to Thailand?
- 21:18Speaker 4: I haven't been to Thailand.
- 21:19Speaker 2: I've just got to go to day Land.
- 21:20Speaker 5: So that, like said super question, is it's super question?
- 21:23Speaker 5: Super question sounds exactly the same.
- 21:26Speaker 4: I would say, twenty thousand dollars is a really significant
- 21:28Speaker 4: amount to take out of your super not knowing how
- 21:31Speaker 4: much you have invested. The only way that I would
- 21:33Speaker 4: say it's balance is if you've invested twenty thousand dollars
- 21:37Speaker 4: and you intend to not touch that until retirement. If
- 21:40Speaker 4: you haven't done that, I would say I personally would
- 21:43Speaker 4: be looking to put the money back in because taking
- 21:45Speaker 4: twenty thousand dollars out, especially during COVID, which is now
- 21:48Speaker 4: four or five years ago, like you're you've already already
- 21:52Speaker 4: a lot of time compounding, and so I would really
- 21:54Speaker 4: be prioritizing paying that money back as a matter of urgency. Personally,
- 21:59Speaker 4: you can and elect to invest it outside of Super instead,
- 22:02Speaker 4: but as Beck said, there's obviously the tax benefits of
- 22:05Speaker 4: putting it back in. I also just think it's nice
- 22:08Speaker 4: that you can't touch it. I think we're all sometimes
- 22:10Speaker 4: a little bit tempted to dig into money we've got
- 22:12Speaker 4: put aside, whereas obviously once you put it into super,
- 22:14Speaker 4: you're not getting it back out. So I would be
- 22:17Speaker 4: making it a priority personally. I would say, if you
- 22:20Speaker 4: haven't listened, we did an episode during COVID. It would
- 22:22Speaker 4: have been twenty twenty one, twenty twenty.
- 22:25Speaker 2: It was so long ago, it was really old now, Jeff.
- 22:28Speaker 4: But it was specifically about how to catch your super
- 22:31Speaker 4: backup if you took money out.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Yeah, that's actually still all vvery.
- 22:35Speaker 4: Which I think would probably be pertinent to our listeners,
- 22:37Speaker 4: specifically to explain a bit more why you might want
- 22:40Speaker 4: to prioritize it.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't give you personal advice, but I would
- 22:43Speaker 2: be looking at what your supervalance is right now. And
- 22:47Speaker 2: if you took twenty thousand out, but you didn't mention
- 22:50Speaker 2: anything about you know, I always make contributions or whatever.
- 22:53Speaker 2: I'm assuming that you're behind for your age, so like,
- 22:56Speaker 2: that's not an ideal situation to be in, and it's
- 23:00Speaker 2: something that I would be trying to remedy, whether that
- 23:02Speaker 2: is making a lump sum contribution now or going okay,
- 23:06Speaker 2: well I've got this twenty thousand and like maybe for
- 23:08Speaker 2: some reason you don't feel like you want to put
- 23:10Speaker 2: it in super and you want to invest it in
- 23:11Speaker 2: sharesse like go off, But like, let's make a plan
- 23:15Speaker 2: that maybe you're contributing additional so that you make that
- 23:18Speaker 2: money back up. Because women were already behind when it
- 23:21Speaker 2: comes to super. We are already retiring with lesser money
- 23:23Speaker 2: than men. We are already not in the best possible
- 23:26Speaker 2: financial position, and when we're young, we just don't take
- 23:29Speaker 2: how super seriously And just that's why we recorded that
- 23:31Speaker 2: episode of like What to Do If You took money out,
- 23:34Speaker 2: because it was so damn tempting, totally, Like if the
- 23:37Speaker 2: government's like, hey, do you want to access ten grand
- 23:39Speaker 2: of your super or twenty grand of your super? A
- 23:41Speaker 2: lot of us were like, yeah, I don't want to
- 23:43Speaker 2: have personal debt, I don't want to have my loan.
- 23:45Speaker 2: I don't want to do these things. And you know what, financially,
- 23:49Speaker 2: for a lot of us taking money out of superannuation
- 23:52Speaker 2: and paying off a personal debt that had a high
- 23:55Speaker 2: interest rate was actually not the worst idea. The thing
- 23:58Speaker 2: we did a disservice to ourselves on was not upping
- 24:02Speaker 2: our contributions after to make back the money. And I
- 24:06Speaker 2: know a few people in our community were like, hey, hey, hey,
- 24:08Speaker 2: this feels like a money hack. I'm gonna take the
- 24:10Speaker 2: twenty grand, but I'm gonna up my contributions through my
- 24:14Speaker 2: workplace so it'll be back in my super account in
- 24:17Speaker 2: like three years. But I also can pay down some debts.
- 24:20Speaker 2: So like they did the maths and realized that's actually
- 24:23Speaker 2: a really good financial play. But I think a lot
- 24:25Speaker 2: of us just were like, free money, fantastic, and we
- 24:28Speaker 2: didn't think about the broader implications or what that might
- 24:31Speaker 2: mean for us in retirement. And like it's not sexy
- 24:34Speaker 2: to talk about retirement, Like how many of us want
- 24:36Speaker 2: to see Like I'm sorry, beck, you and I want
- 24:38Speaker 2: to talk about like the unhinged money hacks from TikTok.
- 24:42Speaker 2: That's where our brains are at right now. So like
- 24:44Speaker 2: talking about retirement, she's boring, she's not exciting, but like
- 24:48Speaker 2: that's future us and she deserves the best possible future
- 24:51Speaker 2: as well. So let's make sure that. Firstly, let's look
- 24:54Speaker 2: at your super Are you behind unfortunately because you said
- 24:58Speaker 2: you didn't make additional contribution and you did take cash out,
- 25:01Speaker 2: I'm going to assume that you're probably behind for your age.
- 25:03Speaker 2: How do we get back to where we need to be?
- 25:05Speaker 2: Maybe that lump some contribution is a very sexy way
- 25:08Speaker 2: of doing it. You are going to get some tax
- 25:10Speaker 2: back come tax time, which is nice, but what does
- 25:13Speaker 2: that actually look like for you? So maybe do some
- 25:15Speaker 2: numbers work out what you want to do, or maybe
- 25:18Speaker 2: not the twenty thousand, Maybe you do all right, I
- 25:20Speaker 2: want to invest fifteen thousand on charesies because I want
- 25:23Speaker 2: more direct access to it. I'm going to chuck five
- 25:25Speaker 2: grand in and I'm going to set up an automatic
- 25:27Speaker 2: contribution with my workplace so that over the next two
- 25:30Speaker 2: years it gets made back up and I'm never going
- 25:33Speaker 2: to be behind again. Yeah, there can be a plan.
- 25:35Speaker 2: It doesn't have to be a lump some contribution.
- 25:37Speaker 4: Yes, you're going to be inheritance. It might be worth
- 25:39Speaker 4: just getting some advice where someone can one hundred percent
- 25:42Speaker 4: everything and one hundred percent And I think that the
- 25:44Speaker 4: inheritance is such a fickle conversation because sometimes you go
- 25:48Speaker 4: and like, I'm not saying that this is true at all,
- 25:50Speaker 4: but sometimes people go, oh, it's only one hundred thousand dollars,
- 25:53Speaker 4: because that's a whole heap of money, right, But for
- 25:56Speaker 4: a lot of people, they go, well, that's a house deposit.
- 25:58Speaker 2: I'm just going to use it for that. Or they
- 26:00Speaker 2: might go, oh, well that's not enough to change our life.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Like it's a life changing amount of money for a
- 26:05Speaker 2: lot of people, but for some people who already have
- 26:07Speaker 2: full time careers and maybe they've already got their mortgage,
- 26:09Speaker 2: it's not such a life changing amount that like it
- 26:12Speaker 2: changes their lifestyles. Yeah, their mortgage might go down by
- 26:16Speaker 2: one hundred grand, but like they don't see it as
- 26:18Speaker 2: a priority to seek advice on that money. But like
- 26:21Speaker 2: that could be the start of kicking off financial freedom. Yes,
- 26:25Speaker 2: you could put it on your mortgage, or we could
- 26:27Speaker 2: spend a little bit, get some advice and put ourselves
- 26:30Speaker 2: in the best possible position. Like let's just see it
- 26:33Speaker 2: as an opportunity.
- 26:34Speaker 4: Totally.
- 26:35Speaker 2: Yeah, weird little excited to this one. Do you know what,
- 26:38Speaker 2: I'm not excited. I think I'm still just a bit
- 26:40Speaker 2: disheartened because I feel like a lot of us are
- 26:43Speaker 2: going through this at the moment where we're like doing
- 26:46Speaker 2: the analysis paralysis or comparing ourselves to each other, and like,
- 26:49Speaker 2: I'm victim to this all the time. I'm not just
- 26:52Speaker 2: comparing myself to my friends. I'm comparing myself to random
- 26:55Speaker 2: people that I see on TikTok that I'm like, Yeah,
- 26:57Speaker 2: what do you mean. She's a mum and has the
- 26:59Speaker 2: same age kid is me, and I'm not doing xyz.
- 27:03Speaker 2: It's delusional. So someone wrote into she's on the money, Hi,
- 27:07Speaker 2: She's on the money. I recently hit what I thought
- 27:10Speaker 2: was a huge milestone. I landed a new job and
- 27:13Speaker 2: I finally cracked six figures for the first time. I
- 27:16Speaker 2: was feeling pretty great and so happy for the extra income.
- 27:19Speaker 2: See that's good. That was until I caught up with
- 27:22Speaker 2: a friend who just got a new job and she
- 27:24Speaker 2: told me that she's earning more than two hundred thousand dollars.
- 27:28Speaker 2: She's much younger than me, and she didn't even go
- 27:30Speaker 2: to university. She just worked her way up in a
- 27:32Speaker 2: good company. She's absolutely killing it, and I am really
- 27:35Speaker 2: happy for her. But I'd be lying if I said,
- 27:39Speaker 2: it didn't make me feel like my salary now isn't enough. Now,
- 27:42Speaker 2: even though I like my job and I worked so
- 27:45Speaker 2: hard to get here, I can't stop feeling like I'm
- 27:47Speaker 2: not earning enough money. I've started looking at other roles constantly,
- 27:52Speaker 2: even though I don't actually want to leave my business.
- 27:55Speaker 2: I just feel like there is no way I could
- 27:57Speaker 2: ever earn that much, and it's starting to really affect
- 27:59Speaker 2: myself worth. I don't know how to change this money mindset.
- 28:02Speaker 2: What would you guys do? So I want to hurt
- 28:05Speaker 2: your money doesn't define you for your self worth. I
- 28:09Speaker 2: don't know, Like I just want to jump up and
- 28:11Speaker 2: down and be like, your self worth is not connected
- 28:14Speaker 2: to how much money you earned.
- 28:15Speaker 4: Yeah, not at all.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Do you know how many people I've met who were rich,
- 28:18Speaker 2: who I think are absolutely awful people, and people who
- 28:21Speaker 2: don't earn that much that I'm like, you are the
- 28:23Speaker 2: best human in the entire world.
- 28:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Oh, anyway, you guys have the floor because like this
- 28:29Speaker 2: one just gets me, maybe because I can relate.
- 28:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I get it.
- 28:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that it's I want to validate your feelings,
- 28:36Speaker 4: like it's totally understandable. And as Victoria said, like it's
- 28:39Speaker 4: something I think a lot of his experienced it's really hard,
- 28:42Speaker 4: especially like for me personally, like cost of living is
- 28:45Speaker 4: something that's so hard. So I can see how even
- 28:47Speaker 4: when you achieve something, it really feels like you're swinging
- 28:50Speaker 4: up hill and then seeing other people around you. You know,
- 28:54Speaker 4: you said that she didn't go to UNI. You did,
- 28:56Speaker 4: so that you know, maybe makes you feel like you
- 28:59Speaker 4: to your question the choices, perhaps that you made all
- 29:01Speaker 4: the things that you've done. So I totally get how
- 29:03Speaker 4: you're feeling, and I want to just say that that's
- 29:05Speaker 4: okay and that's normal. I think what you need to
- 29:08Speaker 4: do is step back and go back to where you
- 29:10Speaker 4: were before you spoke to her, and you said to us,
- 29:12Speaker 4: I've wanted to hit six figures for a really long time,
- 29:15Speaker 4: Like I was so excited and you yeah, away, yeah,
- 29:19Speaker 4: like that's amazing. And you know, on the flip side,
- 29:21Speaker 4: I'm sure your friend was equally as excited to share
- 29:24Speaker 4: that with you, and she probably didn't consider that, you know,
- 29:27Speaker 4: by doing so, you feel it would make you feel
- 29:29Speaker 4: that way exactly. But I think, looking maybe at where
- 29:33Speaker 4: you've come from, what I try and do when I'm
- 29:36Speaker 4: feeling really down, on myself for you know, my progress
- 29:39Speaker 4: or you know, you guys know I've been saying for
- 29:40Speaker 4: like five years, I'm gonna buy house. This is how
- 29:42Speaker 4: many years have I said this is the YU and
- 29:45Speaker 4: it hasn't been, you know. And anytime I'm manifesting for you,
- 29:48Speaker 4: we're manifesting hard. But anytime that I'm really struggling with that,
- 29:52Speaker 4: I try and look at where I've come from. So
- 29:54Speaker 4: for me, if I go back six years, I had
- 29:57Speaker 4: credit card debt, I had zero savings. You know, now I've.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Got even though you don't have a house, you are
- 30:01Speaker 2: sitting on so much cash right now, like you are
- 30:03Speaker 2: killing it.
- 30:03Speaker 4: Saved a house supposit, I have an emergency fund. You know.
- 30:06Speaker 4: I've been able to do all these incredible things in
- 30:08Speaker 4: my career. So it sounds like our listener has done
- 30:11Speaker 4: the same thing. Like you've got a pay rise, you've
- 30:13Speaker 4: stated a company, you've got a job.
- 30:15Speaker 2: I remember, really hit six figures like it is a
- 30:17Speaker 2: big moment, Like it's really that's not little exactly.
- 30:21Speaker 4: And so I think, rather than look at what other
- 30:23Speaker 4: people are doing, sometimes looking back at where you've come from,
- 30:27Speaker 4: you can forget because we're always striving so hard.
- 30:30Speaker 2: To move forward.
- 30:31Speaker 4: We're always, you know, thinking about the next thing, and
- 30:33Speaker 4: we're also all trying to just keep our heads above water.
- 30:36Speaker 4: I think in this economy as well, so it can
- 30:38Speaker 4: be really easy to lose perspective on where you've come from.
- 30:41Speaker 4: So I think, honestly, like, go back, look at your
- 30:43Speaker 4: bank account from five years ago and see how far
- 30:46Speaker 4: you've come. Look at your position, Look at the job
- 30:49Speaker 4: that you had, maybe you hated it, maybe you know
- 30:51Speaker 4: you didn't like the team that you're in, or maybe
- 30:53Speaker 4: you were earning half of what you're earning now or whatever.
- 30:55Speaker 4: That looks like, I promise you, like I would bet
- 30:58Speaker 4: my house supposit you've made proud per and so I think.
- 31:02Speaker 2: You need to get your house deposit hard on that.
- 31:09Speaker 4: But you know, I think, go back and recognize all
- 31:11Speaker 4: the hard work that you've done, because that's so exciting.
- 31:13Speaker 4: And just because other people are achieving what maybe feels
- 31:16Speaker 4: like bigger or better things, doesn't mean that the progress
- 31:18Speaker 4: you've made is any less incredible or exciting.
- 31:22Speaker 2: To be put off totally, What you're not seeing is
- 31:25Speaker 2: that maybe you will get to that stage at some
- 31:27Speaker 2: point and you will earn two hundred grand, and maybe
- 31:29Speaker 2: we haven't comprehended that that's the cap of your friend's career. Yeah,
- 31:33Speaker 2: like maybe they've tapped out. And I'm not saying that
- 31:35Speaker 2: that's reality, because you know, we do a lot of
- 31:37Speaker 2: money diaries on this show, and you know, a couple
- 31:40Speaker 2: of months ago, we had somebody on the show who
- 31:43Speaker 2: worked in tech and like she was earning like half
- 31:45Speaker 2: a million dollars and had stocks and had all of
- 31:47Speaker 2: this stuff and hadn't done Unie right, and she's just
- 31:49Speaker 2: in this industry. I don't think that that means that
- 31:53Speaker 2: her friends that are earning less than her are less
- 31:55Speaker 2: than Like I can almost guarantee that your friend told
- 31:58Speaker 2: you because she was like, oh my god, Yess, I
- 31:59Speaker 2: really want to tell you this because I'm so proud
- 32:01Speaker 2: of myself, and I think you're going to be proud
- 32:03Speaker 2: of me too. Like you don't tell people things because
- 32:06Speaker 2: you go do you know what I'm going to tell
- 32:07Speaker 2: Jess I earn more than her because that'll make her
- 32:10Speaker 2: feel like trash. Yeah, no one does that. And so
- 32:13Speaker 2: your friend went into that with the best of intentions
- 32:16Speaker 2: to arguably celebrate and share with you, because like sharing
- 32:19Speaker 2: makes things burn brighter, right, Yeah, but didn't really comprehend
- 32:24Speaker 2: your feelings and that's okay, but it doesn't mean that
- 32:27Speaker 2: you're less than or different totally. And it could even
- 32:30Speaker 2: be a like, Okay, so you've seen somebody else who's
- 32:33Speaker 2: earning literally double do you want that lifestyle? So how
- 32:37Speaker 2: do you make your friend's lifestyle? Do you like that? Yes,
- 32:40Speaker 2: they're earning more cash, but like, at what cost? Is
- 32:43Speaker 2: a question I like to ask all the time, Like
- 32:46Speaker 2: you can do it, but like at what cost? Like
- 32:48Speaker 2: I could triple how much she's on the money earns,
- 32:51Speaker 2: but at what cost? I don't think anyone in our
- 32:53Speaker 2: team would be happy. I would have no work life balance,
- 32:56Speaker 2: my family would be suffering, like all of those things, Right,
- 33:00Speaker 2: So I think we need to zoom out and go well,
- 33:02Speaker 2: at what cost?
- 33:03Speaker 1: Or?
- 33:04Speaker 2: Hey? You know, I keep using Jess as an example
- 33:06Speaker 2: here because she spoke up first, I suppose, but let
- 33:09Speaker 2: yes use back. Hey, cool, so you've looked at that lifestyle,
- 33:12Speaker 2: Maybe you go that is really shiny. Do we want
- 33:15Speaker 2: to make a career pivot? What would that look like?
- 33:18Speaker 2: How could we work towards moving into a career where
- 33:21Speaker 2: you have that Because no shame, some of us are
- 33:24Speaker 2: very money motivated. You might adore your job, but you've
- 33:28Speaker 2: seen someone else and an opportunity that you go, I'm
- 33:30Speaker 2: smart enough to do that. Maybe you want to move,
- 33:33Speaker 2: Like maybe it's an opportunity to reflect on where we
- 33:36Speaker 2: are and what that might mean, and sometimes we could
- 33:39Speaker 2: fall back into I don't actually want that. I adore
- 33:41Speaker 2: my job, I have the best like work life balance whatnot.
- 33:44Speaker 2: And I'm really proud of where I've come from. Or hey,
- 33:47Speaker 2: that was actually a really good, like little trigger to
- 33:50Speaker 2: push me further.
- 33:51Speaker 5: Yeah, it really depends on what the friend does. I'm
- 33:54Speaker 5: really curious to know what your friend is.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Oh, I always you tell me you earnest dolls. I
- 34:00Speaker 2: want to know, like totally.
- 34:01Speaker 5: But also the fact that they came to you and
- 34:03Speaker 5: they're really excited about this, like you know this either
- 34:05Speaker 5: pay increase or salary or whatever it is. It's like
- 34:08Speaker 5: that in itself is kind of telling. It's like that
- 34:11Speaker 5: that is abnormal. That is not the norm for everyone.
- 34:14Speaker 5: If it was the norm for everyone, your friend wouldn't
- 34:16Speaker 5: have made a point to be so excited to share
- 34:20Speaker 5: that with you. It's like some sort of extraordinary circumstances.
- 34:23Speaker 5: I can promise you. I am so far away from
- 34:26Speaker 5: six figures. I don't know about you guys, but almost
- 34:29Speaker 5: everyone I know is so far away from it or
- 34:32Speaker 5: like just almost touching it. It's like that is a big,
- 34:36Speaker 5: big deal. So that is incredible and you should really
- 34:39Speaker 5: be proud of yourself for getting there. But also exactly
- 34:43Speaker 5: what you guys are saying, like it is so funny.
- 34:45Speaker 5: I was having this conversation last night about money and
- 34:47Speaker 5: career and all this stuff, and really we have to like,
- 34:51Speaker 5: first of all, realize that the value we put on roles,
- 34:56Speaker 5: like everything's kind of just made up, you know what
- 34:59Speaker 5: I mean. So I think that like, first of all,
- 35:02Speaker 5: we need money to like buy food and all these
- 35:05Speaker 5: kind of things. And like, if the lifestyle you live
- 35:09Speaker 5: is what you like, if you are happy, exactly as
- 35:12Speaker 5: VD was saying, if you're happy, cool, it doesn't it
- 35:15Speaker 5: honestly doesn't matter. If you have some disposable income, you
- 35:17Speaker 5: can buy some luxuries, you're paying for your rent, your food,
- 35:21Speaker 5: you'll whatever else you need to pay for. If you're covered,
- 35:24Speaker 5: if you're not struggling every single day, and you're fairly happy,
- 35:28Speaker 5: you're fairly comfortable. That is so much more than I
- 35:34Speaker 5: could ever imagine. Like that is just so cool, Like
- 35:36Speaker 5: that would be amazing and so but yeah, I think
- 35:40Speaker 5: when we look at what other people are earning, we
- 35:43Speaker 5: have to think about like, if I want that, would
- 35:46Speaker 5: you completely switch up and do exactly everything they're doing?
- 35:50Speaker 5: If not, hey Lee, let let them be. You know,
- 35:53Speaker 5: there's like five Fox workers that make like a million
- 35:56Speaker 5: dollars a second. I'm like, that is amazing, but but
- 35:58Speaker 5: I won't do that far Yeah, would I do that?
- 36:00Speaker 3: No?
- 36:01Speaker 2: Absolutely not.
- 36:01Speaker 5: So I'm like, I'm sitting here, I'm comfy, I whateverfo
- 36:05Speaker 5: I can't imagine it. Can you imagine?
- 36:06Speaker 2: I can be like I'm not getting out of bed? Sorry,
- 36:08Speaker 2: I kind of think that would that.
- 36:09Speaker 4: I can't imagine you're far away from your circle of.
- 36:12Speaker 5: No exactly I would it. So that's the thing is
- 36:14Speaker 5: that like you have to firstly look at like not
- 36:16Speaker 5: just like the dollar amount, you have to look at
- 36:19Speaker 5: what your friend is doing and if you would swap
- 36:20Speaker 5: everything over, and also realize that the amount you're on,
- 36:25Speaker 5: not everyone is on. But yeah, your your worth and
- 36:28Speaker 5: your value comes from within because everything else on the
- 36:31Speaker 5: outside is just made up.
- 36:35Speaker 2: And I also think before I move on to the listener,
- 36:37Speaker 2: like to what our community said, we all struggle with it,
- 36:41Speaker 2: like I struggle with it, Jess struggles with it. Bex.
- 36:45Speaker 2: We all do it. So even your friend who just
- 36:48Speaker 2: told you I own two hundred grand, I can promise
- 36:50Speaker 2: you she's found a ring of people that she's comparing
- 36:53Speaker 2: herself to. She's comparing herself to everyone at work, being
- 36:56Speaker 2: like I've made two hundred grand, but like so and
- 36:58Speaker 2: so over there, I know it gets bonuses because they've
- 37:00Speaker 2: got a different remuneration structure. And someday I'm going to like,
- 37:03Speaker 2: we're all comparing ourselves and we need to just stop
- 37:07Speaker 2: because it's where is the productiveness in this? It does?
- 37:11Speaker 2: What point? Did that ever actually help you? Exactly? So
- 37:15Speaker 2: we asked our community. First question we asked was do
- 37:18Speaker 2: you ever get stuck in a comparison spill with friends?
- 37:22Speaker 2: Percent of you said yep, all the time. It's exhausting.
- 37:25Speaker 4: Only twenty five percent.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Wait, then fifty eight percent of you said yep, sometimes
- 37:29Speaker 2: I catch myself doing it. So we all do it.
- 37:31Speaker 2: And then seventeen percent of you are better than all
- 37:34Speaker 2: of us and said, nah, I'm really good at staying
- 37:36Speaker 2: in my own lane. Could DM and tell us exactly
- 37:41Speaker 2: how you stay in your own lane, because girl, I'm
- 37:43Speaker 2: on the freeway, like no, I'm on the freeway. I
- 37:51Speaker 2: can see all the lanes. I can't stay in my
- 37:53Speaker 2: lane because the people in front of me, they're gone slow.
- 37:56Speaker 2: I need to overtake you. You're just a little street screen.
- 38:01Speaker 2: We aren't on the country roads, you know. Next question
- 38:04Speaker 2: we asked was do you struggle to separate your money
- 38:06Speaker 2: and your self worth? Fifty two percent of you said sometimes,
- 38:10Speaker 2: depending on how I'm tracking. Twenty seven percent of you
- 38:13Speaker 2: said yeah, they feel really linked. And again, twenty two
- 38:16Speaker 2: percent of you are better at much of this than
- 38:19Speaker 2: we are, and said, no, I know my self worth.
- 38:21Speaker 2: Isn't my income ride well into my dms? And you
- 38:25Speaker 2: tell me how you do that, because we need to
- 38:28Speaker 2: do a whole episode on how you guys are living
- 38:30Speaker 2: your lives because I need your tips personally. So that's
- 38:34Speaker 2: just a selfish request. And we then said to the community, guys,
- 38:38Speaker 2: what's your two cents? First person said, I'm thirty eight
- 38:41Speaker 2: and I feel like I'm never going to reach six figures.
- 38:44Speaker 2: I love my job, though, so I'm happy to put
- 38:46Speaker 2: up with the lot. Holy absolutely. Next person said, talk
- 38:49Speaker 2: to a professional. Your work probably has a free EAP
- 38:52Speaker 2: program that can do wonders for mindset and direction.
- 38:55Speaker 4: That's a good one.
- 38:56Speaker 2: That's a good one because that's free. Baby. Another person said,
- 39:00Speaker 2: to think about all the times you were dreaming about
- 39:02Speaker 2: it being exactly.
- 39:03Speaker 5: Where you are right now, exactly right.
- 39:05Speaker 2: They have a j name as well, so that feels
- 39:07Speaker 2: like a Jess thing to say. Next person said, there's
- 39:10Speaker 2: a documentary called Happy Once Basic needs a man happiness
- 39:14Speaker 2: doesn't actually increase with money. I'm going to go watch
- 39:17Speaker 2: that doctu that reminds you.
- 39:18Speaker 4: There's a book called The Happiness Project that I read
- 39:20Speaker 4: years and years ago that I really liked. Similar concept.
- 39:23Speaker 2: I think I have that book, but I've never read it.
- 39:25Speaker 2: The yellow one right, yeah. Yeah. Next person said, I'm
- 39:29Speaker 2: the friend that out earns all of my friends, and
- 39:31Speaker 2: I really hope that they don't feel like this. That's
- 39:34Speaker 2: not why I shared. Another person said, I earn a
- 39:37Speaker 2: lot less than all my friends, but I've got more
- 39:40Speaker 2: time with my kids, and I think I'm happier.
- 39:42Speaker 4: I love that we've had two opposites there.
- 39:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I like that.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Another person said, my bestie earns double my salary, but
- 39:48Speaker 2: she said she would love my sense of fulfillment and satisfaction.
- 39:52Speaker 2: She doesn't think she can achieve. Money isn't everything you guys,
- 39:55Speaker 2: I'm going to give you three more. Next person said,
- 39:57Speaker 2: you could make bank doing a lot of things. You
- 39:59Speaker 2: have eight is it worth it? Though it's a crazy
- 40:02Speaker 2: exactly aspirational goals rather than comparison spiral is a good
- 40:07Speaker 2: place to think. And another person said, what you do
- 40:11Speaker 2: with your money is so much more important than the
- 40:13Speaker 2: figure you earn. In a last one, I said, I
- 40:17Speaker 2: was only going to do three, but the last one
- 40:18Speaker 2: is good. To stop trying to keep up with the
- 40:20Speaker 2: Joneses next door. They're broke. Yeah, so we don't know.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Your friend might earn two hundred grand, but she spends
- 40:26Speaker 2: three hundred. How do you know exactly?
- 40:29Speaker 5: You just got to make sure the moments that you're
- 40:30Speaker 5: living are happy and full if you can. But the
- 40:33Speaker 5: times we spend money, this was like three minutes per day,
- 40:37Speaker 5: we're looking at a bank account. Like the rest of
- 40:39Speaker 5: that time, you've got to be living, enjoying.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Just do what you gotta do. I love that beack.
- 40:43Speaker 2: That is a very good place to leave it, all right.
- 40:46Speaker 2: I hope you have enjoyed today's episode. Will see you
- 40:48Speaker 2: bright early on Monday for a money diary, but tell
- 40:50Speaker 2: then how the beautiful weekend guys bye did buy shared.
