- 0:23hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:44Hi, Adam here. And you're about to listen to a
- 0:46hypnotherapy session. All about medical.
- 0:49Tests. And I would say a fear or
- 0:51anxiety linked to medical tests is actually quite common.
- 0:55And it normally comes about because of an earlier experience
- 0:59of having some kind of medical test, maybe a doctor's
- 1:02appointment, maybe a routine checkup.
- 1:04And then in that moment, suddenly there's a surge of
- 1:06anxiety, and then that makes it feel like that.
- 1:10Thing is now. Caused and linked to the
- 1:13anxiety, and then all the thoughts and coping strategies
- 1:16simply increase. That.
- 1:19And in many cases it's a case of 1 + 1.
- 1:22Equaling. Three, where actually it's a
- 1:25false positive that the medical test might actually show
- 1:28something not quite right, not because there's anything wrong
- 1:31with that individual, but because of the anxiety they're
- 1:34feeling in that moment. And then it feels like it's a
- 1:37vicious cycle where the anxiety leads to false readings, the
- 1:41false leadings leads to concerned medical practitioners,
- 1:45which then requires more tests, which create more anxiety.
- 1:48So how do you break this cycle? Well, for most people, there was
- 1:52a time when they didn't feel that way.
- 1:54Or there's a different area of. Their life where they feel
- 1:57resourceful of different types of tests that might be academic
- 2:00tests. Or.
- 2:01Routine things that are not medically related.
- 2:04So clearly the neural pathways exist to feel resourceful in
- 2:09situations where there is some kind of an evaluation taking
- 2:12place. What this hypnosis session does
- 2:16is it does two things. One, it uses double levels of
- 2:20stage disassociation with multiple levels, and it's
- 2:22actually 3 levels of stage disassociation in this hypnosis
- 2:26session. So they get to be an observer of
- 2:28themselves, doing it in a resourceful way and then
- 2:31stepping into that resourceful feeling, but then also treating
- 2:36a blood pressure. Test.
- 2:37Which was the issue of the particular client.
- 2:40I was working with a home kit version of that as a way to
- 2:44rather than see it as the threat, you can actually see it
- 2:47as the measure of success. It becomes the Canary in the
- 2:49coal mine to evaluate breakthroughs and progress.
- 2:53And then there's future pacing when they.
- 2:54Get to see. Themselves years from now where
- 2:57these medical tests have just become boring and mundane.
- 3:01So if you have these kind of medical related anxieties, I
- 3:05think you'll get some value from this session.
- 3:07But if you like the idea of something a bit more tailored
- 3:10and targeted and bespoke for you, there will be a link in the
- 3:15description where you can schedule either a free
- 3:17consultation call to explore working with me or a suitability
- 3:21test just to figure out if hypnotherapy is right for you
- 3:25and if you're right for hypnotherapy.
- 3:27So check out the description to look for those links.
- 3:29For now, though, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 3:32won't be disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 4:27Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 4:37relaxing, resourceful feeling of calm, and as you exhale, feel a
- 4:48wonderful sense of release. Releasing any tension, stress
- 4:59and worries. Just feel how good it would feel
- 5:04to allow it to leave your body in your outward breath.
- 5:12And on the next inward breath, breathe in deeper than you
- 5:15normally would. And as you exhale, allow your
- 5:22eyelids to close and feel a ripple of relaxation from your
- 5:28eyelids down down into your jaw, neck and shoulders.
- 5:38And as you breathe in, allow yourself to not.
- 5:42Just. Breathe in deeper, but every now
- 5:45and then hold the inward breath, and as you release and exhale
- 5:52slowly, set the intention to release tension, hesitation, and
- 6:02any fears and worries. And every outward breath enables
- 6:10your body to settle, to relax, to drift into comfort.
- 6:20That's it. And the more relaxed you become,
- 6:27the deeper you breathe. And as you notice the rhythm of
- 6:31your breathing slowing, becoming deeper and calmer, you notice
- 6:40this wonderful cycle. Relaxation deepens the breath,
- 6:47and the deeper you breathe, the deeper relaxed you become.
- 6:57And I want you to imagine with every outward breath it feels
- 7:03like you're releasing resistance, and with each inward
- 7:08breath you're breathing in a feeling of courage, calm, and
- 7:16resourcefulness. And maybe that.
- 7:19Resourcefulness's defiance or tenacity or maybe something
- 7:26else, but just get a sense of breathing in and breathing out
- 7:33and feeling a wonderful sense of letting go.
- 7:41And I want you to use the power of your imagination to imagine
- 7:49your own private cinema. And I want you to imagine that
- 7:57as you sit there in the chair, the comfiest chair of the
- 8:02cinema, and you look up at the screen, I want you to imagine a
- 8:09beautiful house. And I want you to imagine the
- 8:14top floor of that beautiful house.
- 8:22And I want you to imagine on the screen you're seeing an ornate
- 8:28staircase, perhaps spiral or made of marble.
- 8:35And I want you to see yourself on that screen at the top of the
- 8:42staircase, and then use the power of your imagination to
- 8:50imagine floating into the screen and stepping into that version
- 8:56of you that is looking down at the staircase.
- 9:04And the more details you notice of the staircase, the more
- 9:08powerful the descent into the deeper parts of your
- 9:13subconscious mind will become. So imagine breathing in
- 9:19relaxation and exhaling tension and then looking down at the
- 9:24staircase. And I want you to imagine that
- 9:29as I count down from 12:50, you will imagine walking down the
- 9:34staircase. And each step takes you deeper
- 9:39into relaxation, deeper into calm, deeper into the depths of
- 9:46your subconscious mind. And somewhere in your
- 9:52subconscious mind is a part of you that remembers, remembers
- 9:58how to feel resourceful in certain situations.
- 10:04And that part we will reawaken. So imagine now 10 taking the
- 10:11first step and just noticing how easy it is to let go.
- 10:18Each step takes you deeper relaxed 9.
- 10:23A wave of. Warmth and relaxation rippling
- 10:28to every cell in your body. And then 8.
- 10:33Deeper now deeper into comfort. Deeper with every exhale.
- 10:44And then seven, any thoughts begin to quiet in a dialogue.
- 10:50Turn the volume down. And six, those old fears, those
- 10:56old tensions, feel the melting away.
- 11:02And then five, halfway down that impressive staircase, already
- 11:08feeling more and more relaxed than perhaps you have in a long
- 11:11time. And then 4A growing sense of
- 11:17detachment from the past, in particular detaching from any
- 11:24anxious or painful moments. And then three lighter, calmer,
- 11:31more grounded while also feeling heavy and light at exactly the
- 11:36same time. And then two drifting to the
- 11:40bottom. And one, that's it, stepping
- 11:44onto one floor beneath. And consider this place a place.
- 11:52Of total peace. And empowerment, A place where
- 11:58we can reawaken a part of you that knows how to be confident
- 12:03and calm and resourceful. And I wonder if they're on that
- 12:16floor is another screen, not a cinema screen, but a large TV
- 12:22screen. And I want you to imagine seeing
- 12:27yourself on that screen in the kind of environment that used to
- 12:32be difficult. Maybe it's a clinic or a
- 12:38hospital or a waiting room. Imagine perhaps that version of
- 12:45you is having a test, maybe a blood test or a blood pressure
- 12:52test. But I want you to see that new
- 12:56version of you on that screen, looking calm, relaxed and
- 13:05nonchalant, as if nothing is bothering you at all.
- 13:12Notice how you look in that screen on this lower floor.
- 13:23Everything is so neutral you almost have an expression of
- 13:27boredom. That's how unthreatening and
- 13:33mundane this thing has become, and everything in this scene
- 13:41feels safe. No threats here, just see
- 13:47yourself as a passive participant, completely in
- 13:52control. And you're not in control of the
- 13:57things outside of you, but you seem in control of your
- 14:02emotions. Consider this a place where your
- 14:08body is monitored so that your mind can master, where feedback
- 14:18is data and not danger and any tests.
- 14:25Tests are nothing more than just readings, signpost pointing
- 14:31towards progress. And then I want you to see
- 14:38yourself there on that screen, testing yourself.
- 14:45But now imagine yourself in your own home.
- 14:49See yourself putting a blood pressure monitor around your
- 14:53arm, inflating it. But that version of you sees
- 14:59this not as a threat, but a tool, a feedback device.
- 15:06That version of you considers this the Canary in the coal
- 15:10mine. And interestingly, not to
- 15:15actually measure blood pressure, but to notice your progress with
- 15:21the blood pressure monitor begins to show your actual blood
- 15:26pressure and not blood pressure plus historical anxiety.
- 15:37I want you to get a sense, then, that version of you is defiant.
- 15:44Tenacious is willing to keep taking tests until it has no
- 15:51emotional impact on you at all. This defiant version of you is
- 15:58destined for desensitization. I want you to see yourself on
- 16:06that screen, taking a calm, stable reading and doing
- 16:13whatever it takes to make that true.
- 16:17And whether that's the first attempt or the fifth attempt
- 16:23makes no difference. See yourself taking as long as
- 16:29you need until you can take a reading that shows your actual
- 16:35blood pressure. I want you to see a victory.
- 16:43You are calm and stoic and pragmatic in this version of
- 16:50you. Nothing fazes you.
- 16:54You're full of defiance. What once had you retreating now
- 17:02brings out the most tenacious, determined, resolute version of
- 17:08you. And I want you to see that
- 17:13version of you sees every test, whether in your home or a clinic
- 17:19or a hospital as an opportunity to step into a new identity, a
- 17:29version of you where any anxiety related to medical tests that's
- 17:34in the past now. So you're seeing a version of
- 17:39you that has already overcome this issue, to see that version
- 17:49of you at home looking relaxed and peaceful, and see as you
- 17:55take your blood pressure, you're smiling and that version of you
- 18:00smiles because you know exactly what you're doing.
- 18:04It's more about rewiring your brain than it is about measuring
- 18:09your blood pressure, because you are training it, reconditioning
- 18:15it, and those old associations are being replaced.
- 18:22That version of you has relaxing music in the background.
- 18:26When you take that blood pressure test, you're wearing
- 18:30comfortable clothes, you're feeling relaxed, and every test
- 18:37you do at home is a battle, a battle of choice.
- 18:47Do you stay the version of you that you were, or step into the
- 18:50version of you you were always meant to be?
- 18:58I want you to think of some things like a splinter.
- 19:02You remember that time when you had a bit of wood beneath your
- 19:07skin? If you left it, perhaps it would
- 19:12get infected. It would have that pain going on
- 19:17for days, if not weeks. But I want you to think of a
- 19:23time when you removed the splinter that it was temporarily
- 19:28more painful, only for the pain to disappear completely.
- 19:34And I want you to consider any kind of medical tests or
- 19:40appointments like that splinter, that it might be temporary
- 19:46emotional pain to overcome it so it never needs to come back.
- 19:54Because deep down, you already know.
- 19:59Your unconscious mind already knows that all those times
- 20:05before were false positives, false readings.
- 20:11Because of the associations. And the connotations.
- 20:15But now you see yourself doing something that is safe and easy,
- 20:23and you keep doing the test until they become mundane and
- 20:27boring. Until it's effortless,
- 20:31emotionally neutral. And when you see that version of
- 20:36you step into that screen, and now you're in your own home,
- 20:44taking your own blood pressure, imagine doing it again and again
- 20:49and again, until it is mundane and neutral and boring.
- 20:57Until the only thing that the blood pressure monitor shows is
- 21:04your blood pressure. Not anxiety, not stress, not
- 21:10panic, Only blood pressure. And when it does well, then
- 21:17you're ready. You're ready to do it again and
- 21:20again until the first attempt shows the blood pressure
- 21:25reading. When you're calm and relaxed and
- 21:27pragmatic, knowing that if you can do it like that in your
- 21:33home, then you can also do it like that in a clinic or a
- 21:39hospital. Because generalizations work
- 21:43both ways. Before the generalization was
- 21:48working against you and now it will work for you.
- 21:55You will believe then because you can do it fine at home, you
- 22:01can deal with any medical related test or appointment.
- 22:07With that cool, calm confidence, what becomes effortless in the
- 22:13home becomes effortless anywhere else.
- 22:21Consider this a mission not just to lower the number, but to
- 22:29reclaim an identity. Because that nurse a long time
- 22:34ago took your real identity, and it's time to take it back.
- 22:44And when you claim that victory, that victory over irrational
- 22:49fear, victory over those past associations and connotations,
- 22:57victory over 1 + 1 equalling 3, well, then you're free.
- 23:07Free to reclaim an identity that just doesn't think that much
- 23:12about it. And then imagine going forwards
- 23:17in time in your own body. Walking into a clinic feeling
- 23:22relaxed, registering at the desk and then waiting, feeling
- 23:28relaxed and then going in and having some kind of test or
- 23:34appointment. Feeling relaxed.
- 23:39Breathe the way you would breathe.
- 23:40Feeling relaxed, feel the way you would feel feeling relaxed.
- 23:47They will do whatever they need to do and it matters not to you.
- 23:53In fact, you could even smile knowing that anxiety just
- 23:58doesn't live in this new identity anymore.
- 24:02Hospitals are just buildings. Clinics are just locations.
- 24:09Tests are just sensors that show results.
- 24:16And the people in white coats, well, because you are the
- 24:21client, not the patient. They work for you.
- 24:26You are the calm 1, the defiant 1, the pragmatic one.
- 24:32I want you to imagine it two or three years from now.
- 24:39A routine test. Imagine this is perhaps the 20th
- 24:45time you've needed to go to a clinic or a hospital or
- 24:50something mundane, and it just doesn't.
- 24:52Faze you anymore? And you can smile to yourself,
- 24:58knowing that there was a time that this would have freaked you
- 25:00out, and it just doesn't anymore because you've transformed it,
- 25:08transmuted it. And from now on, any test, blood
- 25:14pressure, blood, dental exams, anything at all, you will be
- 25:23reminded of how far you've come. That your mind has reprogrammed
- 25:28itself, that your body has recalibrated and your past is no
- 25:36longer welcome in this new version of you.
- 25:42And you are just a few tests away from the stepping stone
- 25:47towards this rekindled identity. And you will look forward to
- 25:54doing whatever needs to be done to activate that calm, pragmatic
- 26:00version of you. That defiant version of you.
- 26:07So imagine leaving that second screen back into that floor till
- 26:14you find a staircase. And imagine walking up that
- 26:18staircase, getting back to the top floor and then seeing what
- 26:26looks like a cinema behind a large window.
- 26:30And as you go through the window, you're coming back
- 26:32through the screen, back to the cinema, seeing at the very
- 26:37staircase you just walked up. But even the cinema is just
- 26:45within your imagination, a thought within a thought, an
- 26:50idea within an idea, a dream within a dream.
- 26:56And it's time to return all the way back to the here and now,
- 27:01taking these wonderful changes with you.
- 27:05So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 27:09nose. Just wiggle your fingers and
- 27:13wiggle your toes. Connect and calibrate fully into
- 27:16the here and the now. All normal sensations returning
- 27:20to your arms and your legs returning back fully in the
- 27:24present starting to count. 123. Waking up 456 More alert 7-8
- 27:34Open your eyes. Open your eyes 910 Wide awake,
