- Ben: Good morning and welcome to your short-term rental bulletin on the 15th of September. So we know that paying to rank is not new. but there are rumors that it is arriving at the biggest channel that never sold it. so I thought we'd dig into that. So, what we do know so far is on the 1st of September, Expedia Group launched Vervo Sponsors Listings globally. One of 12 products announced that day. Now, in Expedia's own words, a pay Her booked night advertising solution that offers no upfront risk and helps partners secure premium placement at the top of relevant verbo search results. So it runs as an option. Expedia's own partner guide puts minimum bid at $5 per book night and says you only pay when the guest who clicks on your ad actively books. So a week later on the 8th of September, Brian Chesky spoke to the Goldman Sachs Communicopia conference. Focuswire and short-term rentals both report him calling sponsored listings a pretty easy straight shot to a $1 billion incremental high margin revenue. And comparing to Airbnb, Amazon, Alibaba, and Etsy, which take huge margin on the supply side, Airbnb has announced no such product. Short of Rental says plainly that Airbnb has not confirmed plans to launch sponsored listings. Booking has sold this for years, however. On Booking's own partner pages, the Visibility Booster is a commission slider that can place your property rankings higher and you can aim it at particular check in dates and particular booker nationalities. But the preferred partner program gives greater visibility to the top 30% of our partners. For what booking calls a small increase in commission. So article five brackets three of the EU platform to business regulations say that where payments can influence ranking, the platform must set out a description of these policy possibilities and the effects of such remuneration on ranking. If you let in Ireland or anywhere else in the EU, that duty applies to your channels today. Ask for it before you bid. So your ranking has had a price for years and the only new thing is that now it has a price list. So thank you for watching and I'll see you tomorrow.
