- 0:47I statements, when something happens, I feel, when this experience happens, I feel or I
- 0:53notice instead of the you.
- 0:56The regular check ins are extremely important because that is what keeps you connected to one
- 1:02another.
- 1:02The more you communicate, the more you're nurturing your relationship.
- 1:08Hi, everybody.
- 1:10Welcome back to another episode on the Libido Lounge.
- 1:13I'm so excited to invite to the lounge a very special guest, a fairly recent new friend of
- 1:21mine.
- 1:22And before I invite her up, we're gonna talk so much.
- 1:25As you heard in the intro, we're gonna talk so much about one of the key things in libido and
- 1:31sexual wellness, which is communication.
- 1:33And, of course, communication is not just about sexual intimacy.
- 1:37It's about everything in our relationship, and it's really the foundation I feel for healthy
- 1:45relationships as well as healthy sex lives.
- 1:48Ninety two percent of people that say they have really healthy sex lives talk about it.
- 1:54And in order to do so, we need to get conscious communication, effective communication, kind
- 2:00communication.
- 2:01We need to get the skills and the tools down for doing that, and that's what we're gonna do
- 2:05today.
- 2:06And before I bring Elisha up, we I also wanted to mention that those of us in the sexual
- 2:13wellness and relationship space really need your help.
- 2:17We are finding that even though we are talking about sexual wellness in ways of supporting
- 2:23people and ways of helping people grow this part of the relationship, fall more in love, be
- 2:29closer, approach this with kindness, compassion, with growth, and all these things,
- 2:35that we are being censored on a lot of platforms.
- 2:37This is not just me.
- 2:39This is the hundreds and thousands of other people like me that are doing this work in the
- 2:43world.
- 2:43So the way we are able to reach others that need help is when you subscribe and share.
- 2:50So before we get started, if you could do that and help us get around this shadowban world
- 2:55where when we talk about sex in a conscious way, we're still getting banned on the
- 3:00Internet, we would really appreciate you.
- 3:02And then without further ado, thank you so much, my new friend.
- 3:06Thank you for coming to the show, and welcome to the lounge.
- 3:10Oh, thank you for having me.
- 3:11I'm so excited to be here and to talk to you about this very extremely important topic.
- 3:17It's actually something I'm extremely passionate about passionate about because
- 3:21without communication, things kind of unravel.
- 3:26So let's not let's talk about this so that we're not unraveling anymore.
- 3:31Yeah.
- 3:31You know, it's amazing to me in in looking at my own history of relationships and where I was
- 3:37historically versus now.
- 3:39And anytime I've ended relationships or, you know, they've ended for whatever reason,
- 3:43whether if my doing or or somebody else's doing, always important to go back and reflect.
- 3:48And it's amazing how many times in reflecting, you can look back and be like, well, that's
- 3:51communication gone wrong, and that's communication gone wrong, and that's
- 3:54communication gone wrong.
- 3:56So I just think it happens so so so frequently.
- 3:59So let's start, if you would, by just laying the foundation for us.
- 4:05Like, what are kind of the foundational things that we need to be thinking about in
- 4:10communication across the board in relationships, whether we're talking about sex
- 4:14or whether we're talking about any other thing that we need to communicate about.
- 4:18Where where do we start?
- 4:19What what are some of those foundational strategies?
- 4:22So openness and honesty.
- 4:24Right?
- 4:24Especially in the sexual wellness side of things.
- 4:27Right?
- 4:28So openness and honesty is extremely important.
- 4:32Also do some regular check ins, setting aside time to make sure that you're not having
- 4:39miscommunication in in certain things, being intentional, set setting space aside and saying
- 4:45we're just going to communicate and talk during this period of time.
- 4:50You know?
- 4:50Because we can get so caught up doing tasks or some, in trying to manage things, you can miss
- 4:57out on the meaningful part of communicating.
- 5:01Right?
- 5:02I statements.
- 5:03When something happens, I feel when this experience happens, I feel or I notice instead
- 5:11of the you and then making statements like I I feel hurt when or and rather than saying you
- 5:18always ain't always speaking to the best of your ability on a respectful tone and letting
- 5:25your body language portray that.
- 5:27You know?
- 5:28That's essential.
- 5:29And, also, being, intentional about cultivating empathy within the conversation, trying to kind
- 5:38of see yourself in your partner's shoes, seeing their perspective of things to lay the
- 5:43groundwork for deeper communication?
- 5:46So I was watching a movie recently.
- 5:49It was, an old movie, I think, from, like, 2010, 2012, something like that, called
- 5:56something like it's o life life over 40, something like that.
- 6:00And there was a part of this movie where they were practicing, you know, clear the couple was
- 6:06going to therapy, and they were, you know, practicing I statements and I feel statements.
- 6:11And they were like they did a really good job.
- 6:13The movie was, very cute of doing, like, a really good job of showing where, like, kind of
- 6:19statements can go wrong.
- 6:20So I wanna give this as an example and and then ask how people avoid the example I'm gonna give
- 6:26you, which is in the movie, they were like, well, I feel that you are an asshole.
- 6:32Right?
- 6:32That was, like, what do
- 6:33we say about the movie?
- 6:34So you're using your I.
- 6:35You got your feel word in there.
- 6:38So it's like and I think, you know, like, nonviolent communication for anybody that
- 6:42studied that type of work.
- 6:43It's like, oh, you use your feel statements, and, you know, you have your feeling word list,
- 6:48and and we can divert from that.
- 6:50So how do we from that, how can you, like can you give us a little bit more, like, granular,
- 6:55support there?
- 6:56Because I I it's like we can get this, and it's like if we can see I feel like sometimes
- 7:00there's this this thing that happens with knowledge where, like, if we know part of the
- 7:05story but not, like, the whole story, then sometimes we can use it the wrong way and then
- 7:10get the wrong, results.
- 7:11So can you go into that that part a little bit more?
- 7:14Okay.
- 7:14So it could be said, I feel when this situation happens.
- 7:24Like, I feel when I'm being ignored, when there's a football playing ball game showing or
- 7:33whatever you wanna call it, that you're dismissing me or that you're and it hurts my
- 7:40feelings.
- 7:42So instead of saying, I feel that you're being an asshole, see, there's the you.
- 7:46You are being an asshole.
- 7:48So we have to avoid that you.
- 7:50So being intentional about saying what that scenario looks like, providing the example of
- 7:58what because the first thing somebody wants to do is, deflect or say, I'm not being an asshole
- 8:05to you.
- 8:05You mean, you're being a bitch.
- 8:07You know what I mean?
- 8:08So, you know, it that that's the first person some thing somebody wants to do.
- 8:14But if you're providing an example of what that looks like to you, because it could be
- 8:22misunderstanding of percept of of perception.
- 8:25Right?
- 8:26So when you're breaking that down as to what and providing examples because that person
- 8:35could also be saying, oh, okay.
- 8:37I didn't realize I was doing that.
- 8:40You know?
- 8:40Or I I didn't realize this was happening.
- 8:44Or I realized this happened, but I didn't care.
- 8:47But I don't care because I get that on the couch too.
- 8:51You know?
- 8:51I don't care about how and then that's another situation.
- 8:56That's a situation that should you guys be really be a couple.
- 8:59You know?
- 9:00So those are the kinds of things that you that, are is a way to kinda flesh out the I feel
- 9:08statements.
- 9:08The I feel statements are intended for you to provide a more fleshed out example of what it
- 9:16is you're referring to that's making you feel like your partner is being an asshole.
- 9:22Yeah.
- 9:23I'm gonna give you another that's helpful.
- 9:25I'm gonna give you another example, or another question with an example just to help our
- 9:29audience understand this more.
- 9:31Because I know another thing that that comes up often, especially in hetero relationships be
- 9:36just because of the difference between male brain and and female brain, but of course this
- 9:40can happen in homosexual relationships as well, is that one partner will, like, try to
- 9:47communicate something.
- 9:49Like, for example, a partner will leave take out, like, the trash bag from the trash and
- 9:56leave it by the door, you know, hoping their partner will take it out.
- 10:00And then their partner walks by it, and and then it's like, you know, the partner that left
- 10:04the trash bag there is like, well, what the heck?
- 10:07Like, I left this here.
- 10:08You didn't even grab it.
- 10:10Like, you clearly want me to do all the work, and they formulate all these stories.
- 10:14Mhmm.
- 10:14And then, you know, and partner b is like, well, I didn't ever so focused on getting to
- 10:19work or getting the kids or anything like I didn't even, like, it didn't even register in
- 10:23my brain.
- 10:24It's not that I was trying to ignore you, but it didn't even register in my brain.
- 10:27Mhmm.
- 10:27So what we have and and we can, like, you know, see examples like that all the time where
- 10:31these, like there's this nonverbal communication, And one partner thinks, I I
- 10:36clearly communicate it nonverbally, and the other partner is like, well, I didn't know.
- 10:41So when somebody you know, these kind of things happen, and we have, like, partner, you know,
- 10:45like, this buildup of this kind of animosity and this frustration and all these things, can
- 10:52you just give us another real life example of, like, how we would break that down
- 10:57foundationally to, address that just for, deeper understanding?
- 11:01Sure.
- 11:02So
- 11:03I have to take a break from what we were just talking about because I'm so excited to
- 11:07introduce you to a couple of my favorite toys on the market.
- 11:11Because one of the things I really, really am passionate about when it it comes to sexual
- 11:16health, pleasure, passion, is not only those things because those are very important, but
- 11:22it's also helping you find ways to deeply heal.
- 11:26And this is why I love the company Mystery Vibes so much because their products I've seen
- 11:31to do just that.
- 11:32So I'm gonna tell you about a couple of these.
- 11:34I have a product for women and a product for men here.
- 11:37So this is a female product.
- 11:39This is called the Crescendo two.
- 11:41You will have links in the show notes.
- 11:44You will also get discounts on this.
- 11:47If you use the code libido 20, you will get discounts on this product.
- 11:53And what's so cool about this product from a pleasure standpoint, and then we're gonna talk
- 11:56about health standpoint.
- 11:58But from a pleasure standpoint, look what I can do with this product.
- 12:01It is so bendable.
- 12:03So it has all of these hinges where you can bend it in all of these different ways.
- 12:07And what that's allowing you to do is be very specific around which part of the interior of
- 12:13the vagina, g spot, etcetera, that you are going to access and stimulate.
- 12:19Now what internal studies have shown on this particular product is that it increases arousal
- 12:25about 73% and lubrication up to 93%.
- 12:30So that's where I'm talking about, hey, we can get all of this uniqueness of pleasure.
- 12:35We can pinpoint those spots.
- 12:36We can wake up our vagina in ways that maybe other vibrators can't because you can't get the
- 12:41level of maneuverability and flexibility that you can with this toy.
- 12:46And all of that, and then you can also see in many people an increase in arousal and
- 12:51lubrication for that deep healing component.
- 12:54Also, another product that mystery vibe has for women that also has been shown to improve
- 13:00arousal as well as lubrication is called the legato.
- 13:04I will also put a link in the show notes about that.
- 13:07It's a cock ring that that vibrates entire vulva.
- 13:10It's phenomenal, so also look for that.
- 13:13Again, the code you're looking for is libido 20 for that discount.
- 13:17And now for all the gentlemen watching.
- 13:20So this is the Tenuto two.
- 13:22So this toy is amazing because it has been researched to improve erections by double.
- 13:30So erections go get better, performance gets better, and it can help with prostate health.
- 13:36So it's a super easy toy to use.
- 13:38It looks a little bit strange when you're looking at it, but all you're gonna do is
- 13:42you're gonna just do penile insertion right here.
- 13:45This back part will sit back on the perineum, and voila, there you go.
- 13:50So again, libido 24 this.
- 13:53If you guys want better erections, if you wanna be harder longer, if you wanna please your
- 13:58partner longer, and women, if you want to have a better arousal, better lubrication, and wake
- 14:04up those parts of your vagina so that not only are you experiencing more pleasure, more
- 14:09passion, better orgasms in many cases, but you are also deeply healing yourself as well.
- 14:16So again, those will be in the show notes.
- 14:19I hope you take advantage of these discounts and the coupon code's there.
- 14:23Libido 20 is your coupon code.
- 14:26I will see you all in a moment as we get back to our show.
- 14:30Quick word from our sponsors before we continue with the episode.
- 14:35Ladies, midlife is in a crisis.
- 14:37It's a power move.
- 14:38On the Mature Allure podcast, we're flipping the script on aging, beauty, wellness, and
- 14:44everything in between.
- 14:45I'm your host, Sherry O, here to keep it real, fun, and fearless.
- 14:49Ready to embrace every chapter?
- 14:51Hit play on Mature Allure wherever you listen to podcasts.
- 15:05I found that assumption can be extremely dangerous.
- 15:11Right?
- 15:12So we never want to assume because we don't we're not that person that other person.
- 15:19We are ourselves.
- 15:20Right?
- 15:20So we never want to kinda go in the world of assumption.
- 15:24Even though you might know this person, as well as you think you know, you're still not that
- 15:31person.
- 15:31Right?
- 15:32So it's dangerous to assume that someone else knows what you're thinking or what they're what
- 15:40they're going to do because you don't know.
- 15:42You we don't know.
- 15:43So it's always best to be intentional with, you know, with empathy and be as being as honest as
- 15:53you can.
- 15:54Hey.
- 15:55Do you mind picking up that that trash?
- 15:57Or I left that out for you.
- 15:59What's your schedule like today?
- 16:01Like, not trying to assume that someone has the bandwidth to do something because we don't
- 16:07always know what that other person's doing.
- 16:09You get where I'm coming from?
- 16:11So that's one of the best ways to handle that because it it's kinda like this like, to a
- 16:18degree, it's because then you paint this narrative in your mind.
- 16:21You go through these what if mindsets.
- 16:24You know?
- 16:25And and it's really just a matter of I just didn't see it, and I was trying to run out out
- 16:31the door.
- 16:32You know?
- 16:32And I I had to get put some gas in the car.
- 16:35And before I got to work, and I wanted to make sure I left early enough so that I can pick so
- 16:40that I could do that, you know, those kinds of things.
- 16:43You know?
- 16:43So it's it's extremely dangerous to assume.
- 16:48It's always best to ask open ended questions before getting to that place of drawing a
- 16:56narrative around that.
- 16:57And I'll say this too.
- 16:59In the world of texting, sometimes it's better to go into verbal or or, FaceTime types of
- 17:09conversations or face to face conversations versus a text because that person can't see
- 17:14your body language.
- 17:16That person will just see the text, and the tone of the text from their perception could
- 17:22look like something it's really not.
- 17:25Yeah.
- 17:26I think it's such important advice.
- 17:28It's like, think it's so quick that sometimes we send off and fire off these types of texts,
- 17:33and we're just in a hurry.
- 17:35And so it sounds you know, it's like maybe it maybe it even could be taken a certain way.
- 17:40But all it is is somebody's in a hurry, and they're just, like, typing as fast as they can
- 17:43to respond to something or talking to text as fast as they can.
- 17:47And and, and it's really misconstrued.
- 17:51So then what about, like because I think one of the things that happens and where these
- 17:55conversations get into, like, these vicious cycles, right, is where The circular talk.
- 18:01Yeah.
- 18:01The circular talk and, like, and this, scenario where it's like if the conversation doesn't go
- 18:08well.
- 18:08You know, we already have, like, a pain happening, you know, in, like, whatever the
- 18:12the, whatever the misunderstanding was or some sort of pain that's happening around that and
- 18:18feelings.
- 18:19And then if we take it to communication and the communication doesn't go well, that's like a
- 18:23second arrow into the relationship.
- 18:26And then, you know, and then sometimes it we can get into situations where it's like,
- 18:30goodness.
- 18:31Well, that didn't go well.
- 18:33So now I'm gonna try a different strategy, and maybe I'm not even gonna bring it up and talk
- 18:37at all.
- 18:37And we start shoving things under the rug and, you know, and all of that.
- 18:41So how is there any other, like, advice that you would give us and give our audience here
- 18:46around in the conversations that we're having and, you know, using I feel words and making
- 18:51sure we're staying out of the narrative and making sure we're not texting and we're
- 18:55verbally communicating and all these things you're talking about.
- 18:58Is there anything else that you would give to us to really help prevent that when we are
- 19:03bringing these conversations up and we're we're communicating that we're actually preventing
- 19:08that long term damage to the relationship.
- 19:11That's why those regular check ins are extremely important.
- 19:15That's why being intentional about setting up time just to talk to each other.
- 19:22In the beginning of the relationship, that's how he started.
- 19:25Really, it was talking.
- 19:27Yeah.
- 19:28Yeah.
- 19:29Absolutely.
- 19:29And then, you know, with that, my other, question with that is when it comes to this and
- 19:35the regular the check ins, what does that look like?
- 19:38Like, the what are the frequency of the regular check ins?
- 19:41Is there a format of these regular check ins?
- 19:44How how often do you recommend that, and, like, what do those check ins look like?
- 19:49How can people kinda take that first step to doing this?
- 19:52I think if you're able to, especially as busy as the life is today, try to do it every day,
- 19:59you know, as much as you can.
- 20:01So if you can't do it every day, every other day.
- 20:04Because communication, the way you're talking to each other, that is the lifeblood of your
- 20:10relationship.
- 20:11That is what, helps you to survive.
- 20:14That's what helps your connection.
- 20:16You know?
- 20:19That is what that is the beginning of the intimacy link between the two of you is really
- 20:27being able to communicate.
- 20:29And what that can look like, well, you get to define what that looks like to you.
- 20:34So it can be prescribed as in you're like, what when I typically work with my clientele, I
- 20:42typically talk with them about addressing any triggers that happened within the communication
- 20:50of the day.
- 20:51That's the time to get clarity around the trash bag, right, on that was left on the front step.
- 20:57Or or that's the time to be able to understand, like, what that other person was thinking, when
- 21:06it came to whatever the situation or the center.
- 21:09That's the time to talk about parenting.
- 21:11Maybe you have some contrasting parenting.
- 21:14You don't agree with what what how one person did something and to get clarity about that
- 21:19about those types of things.
- 21:21So the regular check ins are extremely important because that is what keeps you
- 21:28connected to one another.
- 21:30And if that is what saves the that is what will save the relationship too.
- 21:35It'll protect it'll protect it against infidelity.
- 21:38It'll protect you guys from, being strong in your financial decisions.
- 21:44It will help you with being able to notice any red flags of maybe you know, any red flags
- 21:51within, that's outside of your family or couple circle, you know, is through communication.
- 21:59So the regular check ins are extremely important.
- 22:02And within that, not coming back at at that as a way to get that get a get back from that
- 22:12person, But doing it within being conscientious of your body language and speaking with each
- 22:20other in a respectful tone, wanting to get clarity with that mindset of clarity.
- 22:26Let that frequency be.
- 22:28I'm trying to better understand so that we can strengthen our bond.
- 22:34That makes a lot of sense.
- 22:35And I know a lot of our listeners are probably like, wow.
- 22:37Every day, every other day.
- 22:39Like, how do we have time for this?
- 22:40So, you know, can you tell us a little bit more around, like like, okay.
- 22:44How does this look?
- 22:45Is this like something at the end of the day where you're asking a question such as, are you
- 22:51you know, honey, I just wanna do our regular check-in.
- 22:53Are you did anything come up for you that was, you know, you fresh were frustrated by, or how
- 22:58did the day go?
- 22:59How did our relationship is it, like, just kind of a quick, like, let me just ask you
- 23:03questions.
- 23:04Are you holding on to anything?
- 23:05Did I upset you in any way?
- 23:07Is is that what it is?
- 23:08Like, just kinda, like, a quick clear of the air?
- 23:10It's a quick clear of the air, and you get to pick when you wanna do it.
- 23:15So because life is busy.
- 23:17So if it's before you go to bed, if it's during, if it's a quick phone call in the
- 23:23middle of the day, if it's in the morning while you're getting yourselves together, you know,
- 23:29you get to decide how you wanna do it as it is the rhythm of your relationship.
- 23:35Yeah.
- 23:36And it doesn't have to and it doesn't have to be firm.
- 23:39Like, it doesn't have to be it can alternate.
- 23:42Like, you can you can you can alternate.
- 23:44It doesn't have to be firm.
- 23:46The point is just do it.
- 23:49You know?
- 23:50And and it doesn't have to be, like I was saying, like, every day, especially if you're
- 23:54travel.
- 23:55You know, like, you know, there's couples that travel or if it's but it's it's you get to pick
- 24:01how you wanna do it.
- 24:03You know?
- 24:04And you get to pick the frequency of how you wanna do it.
- 24:07I'm just saying the more you communicate, the more you're nurturing your relationship.
- 24:14And the more you nurture your relationship, the stronger and the healthier it'll be.
- 24:19Yeah.
- 24:20That's very fair.
- 24:21And I wanna give everybody an action step right now around, like, I would, you know, make a
- 24:26point today because we know we only get results when we take action.
- 24:31So I'd make a point today to talk to your partner around, like, when do we want our
- 24:36regular check ins to be?
- 24:37What is our schedule?
- 24:38What does this look like?
- 24:39And schedule it.
- 24:41You know?
- 24:41It's like, you know, like, what you're saying around, like, it could be middle of the day.
- 24:44So whether that's, like, the same time every day or it's a check-in Sunday night once a week
- 24:50to be like, what's your work schedule like this this week?
- 24:52When can we fit this in?
- 24:54But we need to actually have some sort of, like, operational logistical plan of when we're
- 24:59gonna do this because, otherwise, you know, what I've seen, I think so many other people
- 25:02see is, like, if it's not in the schedule, probably not gonna get attended to.
- 25:06So so much great stuff today.
- 25:09We are continuing everybody in part two where we're gonna talk with Elijah even more on how
- 25:17to listen better, how to work with communication when our relationships are
- 25:22changing changing.
- 25:23So let's say we have this down and then we have a kid or then somebody has a, you know, some
- 25:28sort of travel schedule where they're traveling around the world every week for their job.
- 25:33You know, these types of things, we're gonna talk about those in part two as well as how to
- 25:38really build upon this and build more tools for that stronger communication.
- 25:43So all of that is coming in part two.
- 25:45But before we go there, I wanna make sure that we give you the opportunity because I know some
- 25:50people are gonna wanna take next steps.
- 25:52How do people get ahold of you?
- 25:53Tell us a little bit about, like, how people get ahold of you.
- 25:56What are the next steps with, you know, working with you, that sort of thing, and, of course,
- 26:00everything.
- 26:01That is a link we will include in the show notes.
