- 0:00Oh, God. Oh, my God.
- 0:13It would be not a cage match without the christening of a fucking Sparkle Buddy going off.
- 0:19Also, speaking of Sparkle Buddies, thanks for being patrons and hooray
- 0:23for our new top level tier patron.
- 0:27Not sure what that is.
- 0:28Yeah, Ira stepped on your name.
- 0:30We're really appreciative of that.
- 0:33We don't know what we're giving you for being in that tier.
- 0:35Thank you, Ira.
- 0:36Also, get fucked, Rico. Now someone pays us more than you.
- 0:39I don't want to hear shit anymore.
- 0:41I'm going to cut that.
- 0:42Suck it. Suck it, Sean.
- 0:44No, I promised I promised Rico a shout out where I was going to talk mad shit about him today.
- 0:48Oh, did you really? Yes.
- 0:50Oh, then definitely we're keeping that in.
- 0:52How many how many patrons are you guys up to now?
- 0:54We've got five patrons.
- 0:56Oh, lovely. So they covered.
- 0:58Is it five? I don't know.
- 0:59We got more than that. No, six. We've got six.
- 1:01Yeah. Yeah. Because there's that Matt guy.
- 1:03Yeah, Matt. Yeah.
- 1:06Just talk dismissively about our patrons.
- 1:08Yeah. Now we got who fucking cares.
- 1:10The people we like.
- 1:11And then there's that Matt guy.
- 1:13And now we got Ira. Thanks, Matt.
- 1:15Yeah. Fuck you, Jeremy.
- 1:18I don't think Jeremy listens.
- 1:19I sort of feel like.
- 1:20Wait, my friend, Jeremy, he does not.
- 1:23Yeah, see.
- 1:25Neither does Andy.
- 1:26I'm sad about that one.
- 1:27He'll catch up one day on a road trip.
- 1:29Yeah. I don't know.
- 1:30Andy listens to us talk all the time.
- 1:32That's true. He's he's done his time.
- 1:35We don't give our best content.
- 1:37No, that's right. Podcast.
- 1:38Oh, yeah.
- 1:41Yeah. Sorry, everybody.
- 1:42I wish I could just be talking about eating ass for everybody here.
- 1:44But listen, man, you can talk about eating ass.
- 1:48Just going to get cut.
- 1:49Didn't we talk about it last episode?
- 1:51Well, we did.
- 1:52Yeah. You and me, we did talk about eating ass and drinking piss.
- 1:54Oh, yeah.
- 1:55What fucking millennials.
- 1:57So, OK, for everyone who's listening to this,
- 2:01I had covid for the last episode, so they do a special episode about me.
- 2:05And I'm just hearing all of this now.
- 2:07OK, this has to do with the previous movie.
- 2:09What was that one called?
- 2:10The Humanity Bureau. OK.
- 2:12You know, I was really worried that, you know, I wasn't I was going to listen
- 2:15that like, man, do I not provide any of this podcast?
- 2:17And apparently I do, which is to not talk about drinking piss and eating ass.
- 2:21Listen, man, you would have been right there drinking piss with us.
- 2:24I mean, I'm constantly down to talk about eating ass and drinking piss.
- 2:28Just usually I'm not miked for it.
- 2:31I think this might be our strongest episode yet.
- 2:33Yeah, we're already pretty good. Let's wrap it up.
- 2:35I'd like to thank our guest, Eric.
- 2:37He was fantastic today.
- 2:39Wait, we're not there yet.
- 2:41Fuck you, Eric. Shut up. Shut up.
- 2:43All right. Hello. Welcome back to Cage Match.
- 2:45Colon, a roundabout way of meeting Nicolas Cage.
- 2:48I am Sean here with Nick. I'm Nick.
- 2:51And hi, I'm producer Peter.
- 2:53And we have a special guest today, our buddy.
- 2:56My name is Eric. I did covid too.
- 2:59Yeah, Eric and I were covid buddies.
- 3:00Yeah. How was how was covid for you guys?
- 3:02Great. Ten out of ten. Good covid.
- 3:06It was my first covid. Same.
- 3:09Well, a great job holding out this far.
- 3:11But I had a hell of a run.
- 3:13It was it was fun.
- 3:16I wished my family away and they stayed gone.
- 3:19Yeah, you have a reverse family, man.
- 3:21I did. It was great.
- 3:22I started with the family and I ended up in my apartment in the city.
- 3:27I don't know what to make of all this.
- 3:28I thought we gave up talking about conspiracy theories with the 9-11 episode.
- 3:34Bringing all your covid crap in here.
- 3:38So today's today we have Eric on to talk about his favorite holiday movie,
- 3:43The Family Man.
- 3:44You know, it is.
- 3:45Which he just got done bagging on to a second ago.
- 3:48So this is going to be great.
- 3:50We're going to have him recreate it since the microphone wasn't on yet.
- 3:53Yeah, it's not as great as what I remember.
- 3:55I'm not as excited at you know, after rewatching a couple of times.
- 4:01What since I jumped in last week before we were supposed to record.
- 4:05Got to rewatch again this morning.
- 4:07It's a good it's a good movie.
- 4:10It's just there's not it's not that exciting.
- 4:12There's not that much there's opportunities for more slapstick,
- 4:16but they just never do it.
- 4:17So we're talking about that.
- 4:18And Peggy Sue got married to pseudo wishful time travel films.
- 4:24Yeah. So I mean, what I'm thrilled about is that it really does open us up
- 4:27to the concept of multiple timelines in the NCU.
- 4:30So really anything fucking goes.
- 4:33It's phase four, baby.
- 4:34This theory works.
- 4:36Early and mid late well mid career early and mid career.
- 4:40Similar premise that just happened to pan out with the seating.
- 4:44And again, just another weird everything kind of lines up situation.
- 4:48Speaking of the seating, Peter, what are we doing here again?
- 4:50Right. So cage match.
- 4:52This is a roundabout way of meeting Nicolas Cage, wherein Nick and Sean
- 4:56are going to evaluate 64 Nicolas Cage movies head to head.
- 5:00March Madness style, whatever you want to call it.
- 5:02And we will determine the best cagey is most enjoyable rewatchable movie
- 5:09that we possibly want to do.
- 5:10And by the end of it, we're going to watch our favorite movie with Nicolas Cage.
- 5:14Oh, I like how this is escalated.
- 5:16Yeah, now I have to say that every time.
- 5:19I thought we were just going to get tattoos of the movie poster on our butts.
- 5:22But oh, yeah, I mean, yeah.
- 5:25Well, I know you're in Peter.
- 5:26It'll be your first tattoo.
- 5:28I'm into that.
- 5:29Awesome. All right.
- 5:31Now there's stakes.
- 5:32Yeah, it's going to be really weird when we meet Nick Cage now.
- 5:35What's going to be super weird, especially because mine's a face tattoo.
- 5:39Oh, no face on the face.
- 5:40You need the face off tattoo with the with the crack being the split.
- 5:43Oh, that would be amazing.
- 5:45That's actually pretty good. Yeah.
- 5:46So Eric, what's the family man about?
- 5:48We start off with Nick Cage and T.
- 5:52Leon. I'm terrible.
- 5:53So Nicolas Cage plays Jack Campbell and T.
- 5:57T. Leonie plays Kate Reynolds.
- 5:58There you go. They're at the airport when they're college sweethearts.
- 6:02He's about to go off to London.
- 6:03She begs him to stay.
- 6:05He goes on.
- 6:06Cut to Nick Cage apartment in the city.
- 6:09Not tidy, tidy blackies is what he's wearing.
- 6:12The power undies.
- 6:12Oh, yeah. Oh, while he's singing opera. Absolutely.
- 6:15Hell, yeah. Living his best life.
- 6:17I mean, he's just he did still keep it tight.
- 6:21I'll give him that. Yeah.
- 6:22He's in a penthouse.
- 6:23What is far as Nick Cage bodies are concerned?
- 6:27Harry. This was my first note from this movie.
- 6:29Sternenbush.
- 6:31It's bad.
- 6:33We're tracked.
- 6:33We track these films based on the amount of chest hair Nick Cage has.
- 6:37You guys really don't want to see the spreadsheets that I keep.
- 6:41So what? Nick?
- 6:42Nick is what is Christmas?
- 6:46He's brokering a big deal at his firm.
- 6:48He's he's the president of the company or something along that line.
- 6:52He's he's at least number two behind the behind the old man.
- 6:55They break from the big Christmas meeting.
- 6:58Hey, you know, yes, we're working on Christmas, but we're going to make a lot of money
- 7:01and goes into Bodega to get some eggnog to dribble on his.
- 7:06He's going to dribble that on his lady later. Right.
- 7:08Oh, yeah. That was my favorite quote in this one actually was dribbling.
- 7:12Nog. Yeah.
- 7:13Well, so this woman is like he's oh, you should come back over tonight.
- 7:18He's oh, it's Christmas Eve.
- 7:19He goes, so I'll pour eggnog all over you.
- 7:24Right. But I didn't know he was going to like he goes to the bodega
- 7:27and he's like eggnog.
- 7:29You know, you don't make fresh eggnog for that.
- 7:32You don't go out of your way for that one.
- 7:34Some people do.
- 7:35And yeah, and I think you should, because that's the good stuff.
- 7:38But she wasn't really worth it, I don't think.
- 7:40OK, so he goes for the eggnog and that's when he runs into Don Chidell,
- 7:45who is cash.
- 7:47Captain Planet is Captain Planet.
- 7:49Sketch was the best.
- 7:50I don't know if you guys remember that.
- 7:52I did. Tree tree.
- 7:54You're a tree.
- 7:56They're all trees.
- 7:57So what Don Cheadle is trying to cash his lotto ticket.
- 8:03His name's cash.
- 8:04He's dressed like I thought he was trying to reaffirm stereotypes.
- 8:09He was. That's why he was dressed like Jamie Kennedy in Malibu's Most Wanted.
- 8:14There's a reference for you. That'll date us.
- 8:17Which was great.
- 8:19We're all almost 40.
- 8:22Nick Cage comes in there, saves the day.
- 8:24He's never a bad guy, right?
- 8:25Why does he save the day?
- 8:26Because he's going to cash his lotto ticket and the Asian bodega owners have a problem with that.
- 8:32Yeah, he gets a racism and he's not allowed to cash his lotto ticket because of the racisms.
- 8:38In their defense, he does pull his gun immediately.
- 8:41Really quick.
- 8:42Smoke your blunt first.
- 8:44And then, you know, he's got the cigar handy.
- 8:46I feel like this is an opportune time to mention this movie was directed by Brett Ratner.
- 8:51Yeah. Famous of the Rush Hours.
- 8:54Okay, I thought he also did Malibu's Most Wanted.
- 8:56Oh, no, he's just a terrible human being.
- 8:59I don't know. I love the Rush Hour movies.
- 9:01I do too, but Brett Ratner is not a good person.
- 9:04But Rush Hour.
- 9:05Allegedly.
- 9:06Okay.
- 9:07That's how you can get Nick on board anytime.
- 9:09Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's wiggle room.
- 9:11Allegedly.
- 9:12So Nick Cage stops the violence.
- 9:14He wasn't going to rob the place.
- 9:16He just wanted to cash his lotto ticket.
- 9:18But he was going to go buck wild, I think.
- 9:21And that's when Don Cheadle, he hints that he's magic at that point.
- 9:25And he's like, you got something coming.
- 9:28You got something coming, Jack.
- 9:29He hints that he's magic?
- 9:31Yeah.
- 9:32Well, so Jack, like, you're not wrong.
- 9:33I mean, Jack's like, you know, you shouldn't be doing this.
- 9:35You should be like, if you work real hard, you can make something yourself.
- 9:38And he does the whole white savior thing.
- 9:40And Cash is just like, oh, you're trying to save me?
- 9:42You got everything?
- 9:44And Cage is like, yeah, I got everything.
- 9:45And it's like, all right.
- 9:46Well, remember, you asked for it.
- 9:49Yeah, totally.
- 9:50Then he goes to sleep that night, wakes up in someone else's bed.
- 9:55He's got a wife.
- 9:56The kids run around, full chaotic family situation.
- 9:59It's Christmas day.
- 10:00What if?
- 10:02I'm just going to ask this question into the wind.
- 10:04What if instead of seeing his life, if he had stayed with Kate or come back,
- 10:10not gone to London, what if he just traded places with Don Cheadle?
- 10:14And then we got a movie of Nick Cage just gang banging and living the struggle
- 10:21while Don Cheadle gets to drive around the Ferrari.
- 10:24So you're like trading places.
- 10:26You're just talking trading places?
- 10:27Yeah.
- 10:28I mean, if we have to talk about trading places or Scrooge,
- 10:31we're pretty much just talking about Scrooge at the moment.
- 10:34OK.
- 10:35His assistant when he's still like the big hotshot executive.
- 10:39Oh, with the Mark Davis hair.
- 10:41Yes, exactly.
- 10:42That's Mary Beth Hurt, who formerly was married to William Hurt,
- 10:47but then married Paul fucking Schrader.
- 10:51Oh, gross.
- 10:52So that's it's a trader returns.
- 10:54That explains the haircut.
- 10:56She can't afford a better one.
- 10:58That was a five million dollar haircut.
- 11:02That's the budget.
- 11:04Well, what?
- 11:05So where were we?
- 11:06We're in a family scene.
- 11:08Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:09Nick Cage is gang banging downtown.
- 11:12Yes.
- 11:13So wakes up in a house in Jersey,
- 11:16which is terrifying for a man in the city.
- 11:20Terrifying for anyone, really.
- 11:22I mean, I've been to the New York airport.
- 11:24That's my entire Jersey experience.
- 11:26It's the worst airport that I've ever been to.
- 11:29Hayden agrees.
- 11:30He understands.
- 11:31Is Hayden a patron?
- 11:33No.
- 11:34OK, we we actively bleep his name out.
- 11:37Yeah.
- 11:38He's had enough chances to be whacked out.
- 11:40Yeah.
- 11:41Ever since ever since he like stood behind me while I was watching
- 11:45a leave in Las Vegas, he's persona non grata on this podcast.
- 11:51Nick Cage wakes up in Jersey, freaks out, doesn't like it, runs off.
- 11:55He's gone all of Christmas, which doesn't go over well with the family.
- 11:58Tries to go to his old apartment.
- 12:00Everybody's you're crazy.
- 12:01He runs into Cash again in the Ferrari.
- 12:03Cash has his Ferrari.
- 12:05Has Nick Cage's Ferrari.
- 12:06Shows him, tells him the rules.
- 12:08You're going for a glimpse.
- 12:09You get a little trip back to see what how things could have been.
- 12:14And what?
- 12:15Then he gets to live his life in Jersey for a little bit.
- 12:18He hates it at first, comes around, finds it fulfilling at the end,
- 12:23and then doesn't want to go back to the playboy lifestyle is is the long and short.
- 12:28Yeah.
- 12:29Yeah.
- 12:30That's the film.
- 12:31And it has just as many jokes as that synopsis.
- 12:36They don't do much.
- 12:38They don't lean into the comedy aspect of the weird like body swap.
- 12:42They really could do a lot more with that.
- 12:44I agree.
- 12:45So here's my immediate question.
- 12:46I can't think about body swabbing without penis swapping technology anymore.
- 12:51Yeah.
- 12:53Genital swap.
- 12:54Speaking of which.
- 12:55All right.
- 12:56I'll just talk about this now.
- 12:57Travolta was supposed to play this role at one point.
- 13:00They have the same penis as we've discovered in episode one.
- 13:02Yeah.
- 13:03At least in girth and length.
- 13:05Do you guys have have you guys ever met your penis twin?
- 13:11I'm sorry.
- 13:13What?
- 13:14Identical dicks.
- 13:15You've never.
- 13:16I dictical.
- 13:17Polydictal.
- 13:22No, that's what you get as a thumb.
- 13:24Oh, Jesus.
- 13:25I don't like that.
- 13:26How utilitarian it would become.
- 13:30No, I think if anything, I just want like a hand on my chest.
- 13:34I think that's what I want.
- 13:36Because then it could like hold my phone for me and simplifies everything.
- 13:41Sandwich hand.
- 13:42I thought you meant that in like a tender way.
- 13:44Someone just touching your chest.
- 13:46No, no.
- 13:47Just growing out of my sternum to help while I'm lacking off.
- 13:50I mean, sorry, quacking off.
- 13:53Family podcast here.
- 13:55Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 13:56This is definitely for the youth.
- 13:58Yeah.
- 13:59So, but no, my question about any of these movies is there's been a Jack has been raising
- 14:04a wife and kids.
- 14:06The daughters, the only clue is into that this Jack isn't her dad.
- 14:10What happened to that track in the meantime?
- 14:12So is this a parallel universe or is it is it just like a coma dream?
- 14:17I think it's more coma dream.
- 14:19Yeah.
- 14:20So there are no consequences to his behavior.
- 14:22No, those kids only on his soul out of existence when he went back to his real life in the
- 14:28city, right?
- 14:29The kids were just no longer a thing.
- 14:31It was a fever dream.
- 14:33Which is, you know, and he leaned into that a little bit when he tried to do the affair
- 14:37with with the lady that's always given him the eyes at the Christmas party.
- 14:40Evelyn Evelyn Evelyn.
- 14:41Yes.
- 14:42He's like, Evelyn, give give me give me her exact address.
- 14:47I'm going to start my affair now.
- 14:49I do love how he said that.
- 14:51Also, I love that Jeremy Piven is not the douchiest person in the movie.
- 14:55No, he is zero, bro.
- 14:57He's a good friend.
- 14:58He's there.
- 14:59What are you doing?
- 15:00You're going to mess up a good thing.
- 15:01Whereas, like, if any of you wanted to start an affair, I'd be like, let's do this.
- 15:06I need this for you.
- 15:08Let's let's make it happen.
- 15:09Eric has lived vicariously through a couple of fair adjacent things I've been involved
- 15:14with.
- 15:15It's definitely all the excitement in my life.
- 15:19Don Cheadle is a magical black man.
- 15:21Oh, good.
- 15:22I'm glad you said it.
- 15:23Yes, he is a magical black man.
- 15:24I thought someone already said it in this podcast.
- 15:25I thought we were tiptoeing around the fact that he's black.
- 15:28He does make magic.
- 15:29I mean, is Don Cheadle not black?
- 15:32You don't get to ask those questions anymore.
- 15:34This is the 21st century.
- 15:36Come on, man.
- 15:37This is all getting cut up.
- 15:39Almost certainly.
- 15:40So Don Cheadle is a magical human.
- 15:45He's probably touched by an angel.
- 15:49Yeah, they didn't really what?
- 15:52He's not he's not an angel.
- 15:54He says, Jack, this impressed people high up in the organization.
- 15:58It's just like, I don't know, he's just in like a super he's just got a supernatural
- 16:02job.
- 16:03It's got some great perks.
- 16:04He gets to drive other people's Ferrari use.
- 16:07You know, he gets to punk their asses in their Ferraris.
- 16:09Yeah, he probably works for the TVA.
- 16:11And this is actually tying Nick Cage into the MCU.
- 16:15I got you know, there's variants and stuff.
- 16:17I got it.
- 16:18Yeah, we're there.
- 16:19It's a low key thing.
- 16:20MCU, NCU.
- 16:21Yeah, it gets confusing now.
- 16:23Yeah, it was never confusing before, but it's confusing now.
- 16:26Now that Nicholas Cage is involved.
- 16:28Oh, an all Nicholas Cage movie.
- 16:31Just Tyler Perry's the shit out of it.
- 16:34Back in our running days, what was the the movie universe we wanted to make with all
- 16:38the Rob Schneider characters?
- 16:40The Schneider verse.
- 16:41Yeah, everything is a Schneider Schneider cut the animal, the hot chick.
- 16:46Eric, why did you like this movie?
- 16:49What?
- 16:50Yeah, what originally made you so interested in this was a Christmas movie that my brother
- 16:55and I would enjoy together every year.
- 16:57And my brother, who is a crazy person, just loved it, loved it more than anybody else.
- 17:02So so I don't know, we'd get together, we'd watch this movie.
- 17:05And over the years, just really built up, built it up in our heads that it was bigger
- 17:09cage, that it was more cagey than than it was.
- 17:12But it's really not.
- 17:14It's just kind of like, it's a solid family film.
- 17:17It's also a solid two hours, which it didn't need to be.
- 17:20Yeah, absolutely.
- 17:21But like, I don't know, you know what he learned lessons, they were valuable.
- 17:26He, you know, found out what he wanted in life.
- 17:29I feel like he was forced to find something in life that he was fine not having.
- 17:34Because as soon as he wakes up in Jersey, the first thing that happens is a giant dog
- 17:38jumps on the bed, and then two kids come into the room screaming, jumping up and down.
- 17:43It's Christmas. It's Christmas.
- 17:44And all I can think is, this man has made every right decision up until this point.
- 17:49Don Tito's character is an asshole.
- 17:52I'm also the only single person at this table.
- 17:55I'm just saying his life in the city seemed so much better than before he had kids.
- 17:59Well, right.
- 18:00And he spends most of the most of the film just trying to get back to life in the city,
- 18:05try and integrate it into the family life.
- 18:07Can I can I have both things?
- 18:09Tries that out. It doesn't work.
- 18:11Because mainly T. Leon was being manipulative there.
- 18:15That was one of my favorite quotes. It was great.
- 18:17She's like, I support you, Jack.
- 18:19If you need the kids to give up a life that they love.
- 18:23Oh, yeah. Good dig.
- 18:25I was like, oh, man, this is a trap, Jack.
- 18:28Don't do it. Don't bite. Don't bite.
- 18:31I got a question for you guys.
- 18:33There's a lot of pajamas in this movie.
- 18:36Pro anti pajama.
- 18:38I got a question for you guys real quick before we answer that.
- 18:42Pajamas or pajamas?
- 18:45I just go with PJs.
- 18:47I'm not going to pick a set.
- 18:49I would say pajamas, but I don't know why.
- 18:51I do like pajamas because I like saying pajama.
- 18:54Yeah, pajama.
- 18:56But if you say pajama, you can act more Jamaican,
- 19:00which I know you've been trying to do.
- 19:02Yeah, no, it's the only person here with like skin pigmentation.
- 19:06That's you know what?
- 19:08Yeah, it's fine. I can say pajama.
- 19:10Yeah, pajama.
- 19:12Because we get me canceled.
- 19:15Because we hope you like pajama too.
- 19:19Okay, what was your?
- 19:21Eric, what are you pajamas or pajamas?
- 19:24Before we get into this serious question.
- 19:26I want to be a pajama person, but I think I go with pajama.
- 19:31Okay, when I have to, but I'd like to change that.
- 19:35So what the fan?
- 19:37There was a lot of pajamas in this movie.
- 19:40There's a lot of pajamas.
- 19:42It took them a while to get comfortable sleeping with the one that got away,
- 19:46which I thought was weird.
- 19:48This is your this is the one that got away.
- 19:51I apologize.
- 19:52She has the shower scene and he's just like, Oh, no.
- 19:54Yeah.
- 19:55I mean, she was really getting into it in that shower too.
- 19:59It was a little much.
- 20:01That ass crack is clean.
- 20:03She she was elbow deep scrubbing that thing out.
- 20:08She was committing to the shower scene.
- 20:11She was frothing frothing that ass.
- 20:14It's no nothing.
- 20:16That ass is frothing.
- 20:19Oh, yeah.
- 20:21It makes a different sound when it's frothing.
- 20:24More concerning one.
- 20:26So what in the end?
- 20:28He doesn't want to go back to to real life.
- 20:31He has to go back to real life.
- 20:33The kids are dead at that point.
- 20:35Never existed.
- 20:36Fucking terrible.
- 20:37Yeah, it's really there.
- 20:39It's children.
- 20:40They both are and aren't.
- 20:41You loved these things and they're gone.
- 20:44Yeah, never existed.
- 20:46Oh, I never could exist too at this point.
- 20:48Oh, yeah.
- 20:49No, that egg and those sperm are long dead.
- 20:52Left in the womb of some some barren flight attendant.
- 20:56Well, and that's where he goes back.
- 21:00He finds her.
- 21:01He finds her at the end.
- 21:03He convinces her not to get on a plane to go to Paris.
- 21:07It has that great scene from every film pre 9-11.
- 21:11He just like shows up the airport and runs right to the gate.
- 21:14Yeah, your speech.
- 21:15And man, I mean, hands off to her for not being like you are a crazy person.
- 21:21She did the same thing in the beginning.
- 21:23Well, right.
- 21:24But he goes into this alternate life speech.
- 21:27It's like, oh, yeah.
- 21:28Well, that is a life we could have had together.
- 21:30How about the guy who was like just over her shoulder through the whole thing?
- 21:34And he's just kind of like side eyeing back at them like the fuck.
- 21:38Why am I still standing next to these crazy ass white people?
- 21:42See, here's the only way that makes sense is if she also got a glimpse of like cash
- 21:47pool double duty.
- 21:48No, I think that she's just like, you've really thought about this.
- 21:52We haven't talked in 13 years and suddenly you're talking about kids we never had.
- 21:56And I'm about to go to Paris.
- 21:58No, I'll stay and have coffee.
- 22:00He paints a pretty picture.
- 22:01I mean, does he?
- 22:03Kind of.
- 22:04But still, if I were her, I'd be like, he's crazy.
- 22:07I'm getting on the plane.
- 22:08Yeah, somebody takes him place.
- 22:09He by like immediate when they first met and she's like, hey, maybe maybe you meet with
- 22:14me in Paris, you know?
- 22:16Yeah.
- 22:17If you're in Paris sometime, say hi.
- 22:19Yeah, I would have just gone on a plane.
- 22:21Yeah.
- 22:22The way he looked in that scene, too, it's like she obviously never expects him to be
- 22:25able to afford to go to Paris and like a car heart jacket and stuff like you are stuck
- 22:30boots on laced and everything.
- 22:32I like that when he entered that apartment, the first thing he does is he just knocks
- 22:36over a thing of marbles and then there's movers like carrying a couch out.
- 22:40And Kate's just like, oh, don't worry about the marbles.
- 22:43And it's like, what?
- 22:44I can worry about those marbles.
- 22:46Those motherfuckers are going to die.
- 22:48That was a perfect time for slapstick.
- 22:50She clearly doesn't care about her employees because it's Christmas and she's making her
- 22:54ex personal assistant like, well, that's not her employee.
- 22:57That's her ex employee.
- 22:59You know what?
- 23:01You're right.
- 23:02I know.
- 23:03That's why I do this podcast to be right at least once every other week.
- 23:06The details, man.
- 23:07Yeah.
- 23:08What's your favorite quote from the film there?
- 23:10Let me get to my note.
- 23:12One of them was when he got the dirty talk wrong.
- 23:17They're on the stairs.
- 23:19They're about to do it.
- 23:21They're covering cake.
- 23:22Yeah.
- 23:23And he goes with, you're a bad girl, baby.
- 23:26You make me so hot, which I thought was a great try.
- 23:31Yeah, it was good.
- 23:32It's like that's I like that she gets like, what did you say?
- 23:35Yeah, absolutely.
- 23:36And he's just laying there like, you make me hot.
- 23:38Yeah, that's hot.
- 23:40Come on.
- 23:42I'd say my favorite one is when he's back in his apartment in the minivan and like the
- 23:46security guard isn't letting him in.
- 23:48And Tony's a real day.
- 23:50And then the woman he like the old lady he flirts with in the elevator.
- 23:53Mr. Peterson.
- 23:54Mr. Peterson's like, like, who are you?
- 23:56Who are you? Well, we're on the court, a co-op board together, Betty.
- 24:02And we fought side by side for garbage disposals.
- 24:05And every morning we share quasi sexual witty manner.
- 24:08Yeah, it's weird, too, because she's just like an old lady.
- 24:12It doesn't seem like something in character for him to even be making those passes at her
- 24:18because he's just so up his own ass.
- 24:21Yeah, I liked it, though.
- 24:22It was fun.
- 24:23Yeah, just like what?
- 24:24You know, when you get a lot of me in on that.
- 24:26And she's just like, you couldn't satisfy.
- 24:28I think that's just what is what rich people do.
- 24:30You can you can flirt like really aggressively, just like having a work flirt.
- 24:34Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 24:37My favorite quote came after Cash gives Nick the little bell and he's like, what are you
- 24:45going to come if I ring this?
- 24:46And Cash just looks at him.
- 24:48So he gets home and he's got the bell and he's standing in the kitchen and like things
- 24:52aren't right and he's just like ringing the bell.
- 24:54And then the little girl comes and like says, I like it and takes the bell.
- 24:59She's on her new bike.
- 25:00Yeah. And rides away on her bike.
- 25:02And he's like, that's mine.
- 25:04She took my bell.
- 25:06It's like, you said defeated man.
- 25:09Hey, I need that back.
- 25:10Your bell that summons the magical Don Cheadle and you're better than me.
- 25:18Everybody knows that I'm full of woke speak.
- 25:21Say sex worker, Nick.
- 25:22Sex worker.
- 25:23Oh, you're going to enjoy our sidebar episode.
- 25:27I wish Don Cheadle could have been a could have been a pimp.
- 25:30Oh, man.
- 25:31I would win two on the nose.
- 25:33I do.
- 25:34I do like that when he's like first getting in with that.
- 25:36If he had gone from gangbanger to pimp, it's just like, wait a minute to, you know, bodega
- 25:42clerk.
- 25:43I do like when he's first getting in with the kids though.
- 25:45And he's just like, you're not going to start crying.
- 25:47I don't think I can deal with that right now.
- 25:50Yeah.
- 25:51That little girl was cute.
- 25:52Yeah.
- 25:53She stole scenes.
- 25:54Yeah.
- 25:55No, this was this is definitely in the good kid camp along with handpan.
- 25:58Yeah.
- 25:59Pan pan in this kid.
- 26:00Pretty good.
- 26:01Oh, I did have to see a little kid pee out of his penis though.
- 26:04Oh, yeah.
- 26:05That was authentic.
- 26:06Yeah.
- 26:07They were straight on.
- 26:08Do that.
- 26:09So did anyone find out how long he was glimpsing for?
- 26:12It seemed like a long time.
- 26:13Yeah.
- 26:14It took him a while to learn his lesson.
- 26:15Like the better part of it.
- 26:16He did like most of a bowling league.
- 26:18Yeah.
- 26:19So it was eight weeks because it was between Christmas and it was right after Valentine's
- 26:23Day.
- 26:24That seems like an adequate amount of time to learn such a large life lesson.
- 26:28Again, I don't learn things quickly.
- 26:31He needed the lesson is that Jeremy Piven is a fucking bro.
- 26:35Dude.
- 26:36And how cool was his little like home bar and everything?
- 26:39He had like little titty mugs and stuff like that in the back.
- 26:42Yeah.
- 26:43Jack was not adequately impressed.
- 26:44Yeah.
- 26:45Jack.
- 26:46Man.
- 26:47Jeremy's like, check this out.
- 26:48This is a proper dude war.
- 26:49Yeah.
- 26:50And Jack is just like, yeah, yeah, cool.
- 26:53Cool room.
- 26:54Yeah.
- 26:55Room guy.
- 26:56Nice job, Arnie.
- 26:57Yeah.
- 26:58I like when he leads off and like Nick Cage is looking kind of like out of place in the
- 27:02room and he's just like, I had to move the Barka lounger.
- 27:07People were saying it was too weird in the middle.
- 27:09Okay.
- 27:10That obviously that's why Nick Cage seems so out of place right now.
- 27:15It's because the Barka lounger got moved.
- 27:17So when Jeremy Piven is just trying to go and like hug his buddy, Nick Cage is like,
- 27:21I'm going to fucking punch you.
- 27:23Oh, yeah.
- 27:24Dude, I thoroughly enjoy Jeremy Piven.
- 27:27He could show up in just about anything.
- 27:29And I'm like, all right, I know what I'm going to get here.
- 27:31I didn't this time.
- 27:32This time he was different.
- 27:34I rewatched the Entourage movie while I had COVID.
- 27:37Oh, that's a choice.
- 27:39It just happened.
- 27:40I just the movie.
- 27:41Absolutely.
- 27:42You had brain fog for sure.
- 27:45Oh, my goodness.
- 27:46It wasn't a lot of fun facts.
- 27:47No, there's really not much.
- 27:48Like there was the Travolta connection, which I thought was interesting.
- 27:51And yeah, eight weeks is how long he was in a coma.
- 27:56Well, in a coma, he comes back on Christmas Day.
- 27:58So it's not like he was there was never an injury.
- 28:01It was.
- 28:02I'm just saying that's how most of these movies go, including our next one.
- 28:05Piggy Sue got married.
- 28:07Good segue.
- 28:08Sean, the master of segues.
- 28:09Amazing at segues.
- 28:12You guys only have to do one movie without me.
- 28:14You don't have to segue.
- 28:16I feel like we still did have a segue in our episode.
- 28:18Probably was.
- 28:20So Peggy Sue got married starring Kathleen Turner as Peggy Sue.
- 28:24Nicholas Cage is Charlie Bodell.
- 28:27And that's really about it for main cast and Jim Carrey's on this.
- 28:31There were a lot of people in this.
- 28:33There were, but yeah, none that played like huge part.
- 28:36Who was your favorite third player in this?
- 28:39Because you mentioned there was Jim Carrey.
- 28:42Who else did you who was your favorite?
- 28:45I really connect additional cast with.
- 28:47Oh, man, it was toss up between Michael and Richard for me.
- 28:51Michael was such an intense artist and Richard.
- 28:57Kevin O'Connor, a dumb genius.
- 29:00We do have Joan Allen back.
- 29:02That was my picture.
- 29:03I love Joan Allen, Archer's wife and face off.
- 29:06Fuck yeah.
- 29:07Yeah, like she's back.
- 29:08And in Left Behind.
- 29:11She was in Left Behind, too.
- 29:13Yeah.
- 29:14Remember, she was the wife who got abducted.
- 29:16I mean, she didn't take it away.
- 29:18Yeah.
- 29:19I mean, she just complained about her daughter not being Christ loving enough
- 29:23and then disappeared.
- 29:24God bless you, Joan Allen.
- 29:26He did and took her away.
- 29:30So, yeah, that was a fun one.
- 29:32I mean, like there's so many people on this.
- 29:34Yeah.
- 29:35This movie's got a lot of people.
- 29:36So it's directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
- 29:37So it's got Sophia Coppola in this.
- 29:39That was my favorite.
- 29:41Every movie she's in just proves more and more how she can not act.
- 29:44She can't.
- 29:45Oh, my God.
- 29:46She's a great director or at least a fine director.
- 29:48But she's a director as an actor.
- 29:51I'm going to walk that one back.
- 29:52Did she act in this one?
- 29:53Did she?
- 29:54Yeah, she was on a little bit.
- 29:56Oh, did she act?
- 29:57OK, that's a loaded question.
- 29:59I'm just saying I don't really remember any lines.
- 30:01Oh, no.
- 30:02My favorite line of hers was when Peggy Sue comes back, sees Nancy,
- 30:07the youngest Sophia's character, and she's like, oh, so happy and like hugging her
- 30:12and everything.
- 30:13And Sophia is just like, teenagers are weird.
- 30:17That was a great read.
- 30:19That was actually really good.
- 30:20That was actually better acted than Sophia Coppola.
- 30:23Yeah, I know.
- 30:24I bring this kind of energy to the table.
- 30:26So the whole premise of this film is Peggy Sue is going to her 25th high school reunion.
- 30:31Which is an odd number.
- 30:33Yeah.
- 30:34Do they do?
- 30:35Is that did that used to be a thing?
- 30:37I've never been invited to one, so I don't know what the actual.
- 30:41I was going to ask about that.
- 30:42You can probably get one every year if you really want to try.
- 30:45Yeah.
- 30:46So she goes to her 25th high school reunion, taken by her daughter, Helen Hunt.
- 30:52So life's going great.
- 30:53Her date's her daughter.
- 30:55She just broke up.
- 30:56It's kind of like taking your mom to prom.
- 30:58Exactly.
- 30:59Listen, man, you didn't have mom prom?
- 31:02Mom prom rom com.
- 31:05Wait a minute, that implies they're going to get romantic later.
- 31:09No, no.
- 31:10These are the kind of adult documentaries I watch.
- 31:13They're wingman.
- 31:14We've all been on Pornhub.
- 31:16So life isn't going well.
- 31:18Her husband, Charlie, played by Nicholas Cage, plays it Charlie.
- 31:23That's terrible.
- 31:24Terrible impression of the.
- 31:26God, he's so fucking bad.
- 31:28Can we talk about the voice?
- 31:30We will.
- 31:32You're going to recap this first.
- 31:34So her husband cheats on her.
- 31:36She goes to her high school reunion.
- 31:38He says he's not going to show up because it's so important to her.
- 31:40He shows up and then she is around reunion queen and while on stage has a heart episode
- 31:48and then wakes up back in high school.
- 31:51I do like how they subvert the whole adults playing teenagers thing by just not even pretending
- 31:57that they're not adults playing teenagers in the film.
- 31:59Oh, yeah. They just go for it.
- 32:01Well, because they're adults at the beginning of the film.
- 32:03I think they just made everybody look a little older for the beginning so that they could
- 32:08just play their own age as teenagers later.
- 32:11You know, it's like, well, you look younger.
- 32:13I got to say, like I baby powder in here.
- 32:15Yeah, right.
- 32:16I mean, it's hokey the way they do old aging, but there's a part of me that really appreciates
- 32:21that versus like digital ageing or aging.
- 32:24Yeah, I'm kind of I don't love the digital stuff.
- 32:28But Disney has been really involved in.
- 32:30Yeah. And you know what, Disney, you do you.
- 32:32You don't want to see a geriatric Harrison Ford play a geriatric Harrison Ford who looks 20.
- 32:39I mean, I'll take it because I fucking love the Indiana Jones movies.
- 32:42But an 80 year old running doesn't look like a 20 year old running as evidenced in Nick Cage's fight scenes last week.
- 32:50For those of you who aren't Sean and know what I'm talking about.
- 32:54I haven't heard it yet. Sucker.
- 32:56But yeah, so she wakes up and she's back in high school in her senior year before she married Charlie and gets to do it all over again.
- 33:05But knowing what the future holds, she invents pantyhose to try and make a quick buck.
- 33:10She will. She spouts off all these ideas.
- 33:13I don't think she ever actually accomplishes anything.
- 33:16She's I mean, the only thing that really matters is we have a reverse big situation where she sleeps with a teenager.
- 33:21Fuck yeah.
- 33:22OK, so because you because you brought up big now, I'm kind of I'm into this.
- 33:27Hang on, hang on.
- 33:29But the production's life of this movie is weird because it was in production for a really, really long time before it ended up going to Francis Ford Coppola.
- 33:36And originally, it was going to be a Jonathan Deming movie, which would have been a very interesting, probably better movie.
- 33:42Francis Ford Coppola made Jack. Yeah.
- 33:45So it's kind of like the same thing.
- 33:47Kind of. But then he ended up having these creative differences and then it went to Penny Marshall, who was the director of big and League of their own.
- 33:57Yeah. Oh, this was going to be her first like major film.
- 34:00Right. And the reason I got to see that issue is the reason I got taken away from her is because the budget start to explode and producers were like, we don't trust an untested director to make this film.
- 34:10I don't know why it even needs that much of a budget.
- 34:13It's a good point.
- 34:14I mean, what was this? What year was the vehicles like managing the fleet for that drastically different looking vehicles?
- 34:221986. OK, 86.
- 34:24Well, they did some weird stuff for this film.
- 34:26So in the scene where she's like in the car driving through her hometown, which was Petaluma in Santa Rosa, were used for this film.
- 34:34When she was like in the car back in high school driving through the town, it was a local.
- 34:39It was a San Francisco radio station on the radio and they paid the radio station to change their programming to fit what they wanted for the film.
- 34:49So that was a live broadcast in the film that she was listening to.
- 34:53That's weird. Yeah, that seems so unnecessary.
- 34:57I know it's above and beyond for sure.
- 35:00I mean, it's Coppola. Yeah, we should trust him because he made Jack.
- 35:04And he also remember that time Robin Williams had to buy pornos for the first time in that movie.
- 35:11He also asked. He also let his nephew play this character.
- 35:16Yeah. So Peter, you wanted to talk about Nick Cage's voice choice in this film.
- 35:20Yeah, please. Can we talk about that?
- 35:22Because like the horny Muppet kind of aspect of it was really fucking me up.
- 35:26I wrote down Proto Gary. Yeah.
- 35:28So Nick Cage may have been playing one character his whole career.
- 35:30He's got two voices. He's got bad Boston cop, which is for any regional like dialect.
- 35:38And then he's got Gary voice for everything else.
- 35:42And then Nick Cage. So yeah, he three voices.
- 35:46I'm an arithmetician. He chose this voice.
- 35:50He based it off pokey from the Gumby show, accentuated by the fact that he wore prosthetic teeth to have an overbite.
- 35:58These are good choices. I like it all.
- 36:01Coppola wanted to fire his own nephew from this film and Cage convinced him that this was a good choice.
- 36:07You know what? Peter, Peter warned me about the voice.
- 36:11And once once I got hit in the face with it, at first I was like, given a benefit of the doubt.
- 36:17It was like this, you know, he's doing a high school version of himself.
- 36:20He's a high schooler.
- 36:24And then but then at the end, he is an old man and he's still doing the same damn voice.
- 36:29So that threw that right out the window.
- 36:31Some of us don't get the convenience of like having our voices age.
- 36:36Some of us are stuck like this forever.
- 36:38So I didn't realize the Gumby connection and my note for Jim Carrey's first appearance in this was Jim Carrey.
- 36:44So young, not yet gumbofied.
- 36:46But then he does do that shoulder thing when he's talking to the nurse or whatever.
- 36:51Oh, well, I mean, that was like in the beginning, wasn't that like in the blood drive?
- 36:55Have you guys ever given blood? I got a blood drive story.
- 36:58Yeah, go for it. Oh, man.
- 37:00So in high school, we had a blood drive and it was in the library there at school.
- 37:04So I went and it's the only time I've ever actually been able to give blood.
- 37:08So I did it and I'm sitting there. I'm like, oh, man, this is pretty neat.
- 37:12I've never done this before. Would it be cool if I held the bag and the nurse is like, oh, yeah, you can hold the bag.
- 37:19And so I'm holding it and it's just filling up with my own blood in my hands.
- 37:23And I'm looking quite hot. Yeah. I mean, it's weird.
- 37:26It's you think it would come out body temperature and you wouldn't notice it, but it's much warmer.
- 37:32But I guess if you pee on your hands, it's about the same to blood is pee.
- 37:36And so I'm sitting there like looking at this bag filling up in my hands.
- 37:41And I look across and there's this girl who like they were just putting her feet up
- 37:46and there like the little towel for her head because she was having trouble.
- 37:50And I was looking at her and then I looked down at my bag of blood.
- 37:53Then I looked at her and I just like slowly put the bag of blood up on my face
- 37:59and I just like pretended to not on the corner of it while it was still filling up with my blood.
- 38:07And so she passed the fuck out. She just immediately fainted.
- 38:13And I just went back to holding my blood bag and then the nurse came and like took care of the girl.
- 38:18And then I had a cookie.
- 38:21You were like a national treasure and a crime at the same time. I don't I don't get it.
- 38:27Oh, I mean, in the national version, we see does commit crimes.
- 38:30Yeah. So that's the only time I've given blood.
- 38:33I have I've donated blood and then ran a foot race the next morning.
- 38:37That was good. And that was the worst decision of my life.
- 38:40Remember that time you thought you could go running after you had a vasectomy?
- 38:45That was nearly the worst decision of your life.
- 38:48Good thing you have a wife to set you straight.
- 38:51I don't know. Maybe not. He went to bed on Christmas and when he woke up, she wasn't there.
- 38:55Neither were his kids.
- 38:57It's true. I was home alone. I thought I broke my toe.
- 39:01I almost locked myself out of the house when it was 11 degrees outside.
- 39:07Yeah, it's dangerous not having a wife sometimes.
- 39:10I think we could we could use Eric. We can remake home alone, but with like an adult man.
- 39:15This actually tracks pretty well. You've got a little Culkin in you.
- 39:19Oh, I just be in my PJs the whole time setting booby traps.
- 39:23Oh, Marissa and the kids are terrified when they paint cans swinging from everywhere.
- 39:29Yeah, it will be a more realistic story.
- 39:31They actually come back from the airport when they're like, why the fuck isn't Eric here?
- 39:35They go home to get you and it's already booby trapped.
- 39:38And you're just beating the shit out of your wife without you knowing it.
- 39:42Setting off fireworks in the house.
- 39:44The local Facebook page is just going crazy where those fireworks are gunshots.
- 39:50So Peggy's got my dog poop in my garbage again.
- 39:54Peggy's got married. So she goes back in time.
- 39:56The first thing you know, she's a high schooler.
- 39:57First thing she does is make herself a stiff drink.
- 40:00Oh, yeah. She goes straight for the whiskey.
- 40:02She goes straight for the liquor cabinet.
- 40:03I like that. She's like, they're like, are you drunk?
- 40:06And she's like, that would explain things.
- 40:08She was like, it doesn't matter. I'm dead.
- 40:10She got right into it the same way.
- 40:13Nick Cage got right into it when he went to that Christmas party in the last movie.
- 40:17Straight for the bourbon.
- 40:18Straight for the whiskey and just like two back to back.
- 40:21I do give Nick Cage's character credit because it took him
- 40:25it took almost eight weeks to finally sleep with his wife.
- 40:28And Peggy Sue as a 45 year old woman was immediately like, I'm going to sleep with a 17 year old kid.
- 40:33Tried to get with Nick Cage and then he was like, I don't know if I can handle this.
- 40:38OK, hang on. We got to talk about that scene because that's my favorite quote.
- 40:41Oh, obvious.
- 40:43Do you want to do a reading? I have it here.
- 40:46Do you have the whole thing? Yeah.
- 40:48Oh my god, I kind of do.
- 40:50Wait, no, I have. OK, I have part of that.
- 40:52So why don't you do you do that part?
- 40:55So and then we all say the line together.
- 40:59What you mean? You mean sex?
- 41:02And of course, you want to have intercourse.
- 41:07Last week, he said, what time is it?
- 41:10Holy cow, it's late.
- 41:12And then I don't have all the exact quotes.
- 41:14She's like, oh, I have to bring out, bring out lucky Chucky.
- 41:18Bring out the love machine.
- 41:20You're throbbing thrill hammer.
- 41:23Your thing. Oh, I don't remember that.
- 41:25Yeah. You mean my way?
- 41:27You mean my way?
- 41:30That's why in the movie, it was amazing.
- 41:34And he's so terrified when he says it to my way.
- 41:41Just he made so many great choices in this film acting wise.
- 41:44When he sneaks into a room later in the film, the yellow, he's got the sneaky fingers.
- 41:49Oh, what the fuck was that?
- 41:50He was going to put a pillow over her face.
- 41:53I totally thought he was going with the pillow.
- 41:55And then he takes her down in the basement.
- 41:58What's in the basement?
- 41:59But no, when he's like he's on her like outside her window, like tiptoeing, and he's doing like these creepy, like, oh, yeah, extended, extended fingers like curling.
- 42:09Sneaky fingers.
- 42:12OK, we have to talk about her grandparents.
- 42:15Yes. Her.
- 42:16They mean the cult she gets almost sacrificed to.
- 42:19I feel like that out of nowhere.
- 42:22They were like, we need to end this movie.
- 42:24Yeah.
- 42:25We'll just like give her to her grandparents who just know what to do.
- 42:27They're like, oh, this is fine.
- 42:29We'll send it to the future.
- 42:30We have Irish time travel.
- 42:32I don't know.
- 42:33That seems like a perfectly normal lodge activity.
- 42:37I've experienced some lodge activities that had about the same amount of theatricality to them.
- 42:43And I'm like, oh, yeah, it's not a lodge without a hat.
- 42:46That's true.
- 42:47They would perform these kind of just silly rituals as a reason to get together before they drink and watch stag movies.
- 42:56They're still going to watch stag movies.
- 42:58Yeah. Play cards.
- 42:59Her grandfather did.
- 43:01Why was that still the plan when his granddaughter was there?
- 43:04It's like, oh, my granddaughter is coming around.
- 43:06We're going to do this weird little thing and then I'll bust out the pornos and start playing a little hold them.
- 43:13She can sit in the car.
- 43:14She can serve us drinks because it's the 60s or whatever.
- 43:17No, I actually wrote this down.
- 43:18They were going to play.
- 43:19There's a lot of part cheesy talk.
- 43:21And I wrote that down because I wrote down.
- 43:23I still don't know what part cheesy is.
- 43:25Oh, it's the horniest game.
- 43:30I don't know that we've actually talked about any of these movies.
- 43:33Well, I was going to talk about something about this movie.
- 43:35So, again, we have a reverse big.
- 43:37So she she says, we told some jokes.
- 43:41She says it's pretty good for us.
- 43:43She says in the future she had a crush on this one kid.
- 43:45He's in a poetry.
- 43:46He wears a leather jacket.
- 43:47He drinks coffee at night and corners cafes.
- 43:50He also had a burrito at Disneyland one time.
- 43:55That was the smart.
- 43:56That was the smart kid.
- 43:57The smart kid was just like times like a burrito.
- 44:00Michael was my favorite is as far as the time travel trysts that she went back to revisit because of his endgame.
- 44:10Do you remember?
- 44:11Oh, yeah, he wanted to live in a commune.
- 44:13Yeah.
- 44:14Amory, baby.
- 44:15I've got this other chick, but I love how immediately he just gets upset.
- 44:18He goes like polygamy is legal in Utah.
- 44:22Not polyamory polygamy.
- 44:24Yes.
- 44:25He wanted sister wives.
- 44:26Absolutely.
- 44:27And she's like, you love having this was 1986.
- 44:29Sorry.
- 44:30You'll work together and I'll be happy.
- 44:32You can each darn one of my socks.
- 44:35That's half the work for each of you.
- 44:37I mean, that's a good deal.
- 44:39But yes, I like every guy she knew when she was trying to change her life in the past was just like, no, let's get married.
- 44:46You'll just be my wife.
- 44:47Yeah, that's what she was fated to do.
- 44:50I guess that's just life or relationships in the 60s from my experience as being a teenage girl from the 60s.
- 44:57Yeah.
- 44:58So when did you guys know that Richard was a genius?
- 45:00Was it when he was going to write a book about kites?
- 45:05I mean, they just told you he was a genius from the outside.
- 45:09Yeah. But when was it really made real for you?
- 45:12When did it sink in?
- 45:13Because for me, it was when he goes, I'm writing a book about kite design.
- 45:18Kites, huh?
- 45:19Yeah.
- 45:20Someone's got to monetize that.
- 45:22That would sell really well on like the ocean shores kind of like boardwalk right next to a corndog.
- 45:28Get your book about kites.
- 45:30Yeah. No, don't buy a kite.
- 45:32You're set to make your own.
- 45:35Oh, yeah. Nick Cage does some singing.
- 45:37That's where one of my favorite quotes comes in.
- 45:39I think after he does a song, she's talking about Richard or something.
- 45:43And he goes, who needs physics when we've got chemistry?
- 45:49That is good.
- 45:50It was amazing.
- 45:51Speaking of his music career, I do like how she tries to like set him on the right course to have a great career.
- 45:56They don't get together.
- 45:57She writes him a song and then later on he comes like pretty good song for a first timer.
- 46:01But it changed all the yes to ohs.
- 46:03She loves you.
- 46:04Oh, oh, oh.
- 46:07I think the the scene where she's watching him with the quartet.
- 46:11Yeah.
- 46:12And she's like, oh, God, he's kind of good.
- 46:14When he didn't she didn't expect him to see him play performing with the R&B.
- 46:18No, this is the earlier one.
- 46:20We love the secret band.
- 46:22Yeah.
- 46:23His secret band was pretty good.
- 46:24That was pretty good.
- 46:25But yeah, with the quartet themselves, I just I couldn't get over like one how fucking corny he looks.
- 46:30And then to the ending to that song killed me.
- 46:35Bye bye.
- 46:37Yeah, I think that we now have an outro.
- 46:41But man, he had some fucking moves.
- 46:45His hips were doing things that my brain couldn't comprehend.
- 46:48He was making love.
- 46:50So at what point in Peggy Sue did she it took like until the end of the movie until she was concerned about her status.
- 46:59Like in the past, you know, she she was in the past and she was just not.
- 47:04Well, she thought she was dead.
- 47:06Was that it? Yeah.
- 47:07She like she the whole time she's like, I bet it doesn't matter.
- 47:09And then they do the are you dead test when the smart.
- 47:13The kite can't stand in front of a bus in front of a bus.
- 47:16The bus goes through. You're dead.
- 47:18Yeah. Good call.
- 47:20What about much different film?
- 47:22Just stand in front of a bus.
- 47:23And that will prove everything.
- 47:25That was his second book.
- 47:27Or sorry, that was a fire truck. And I love the fire truck.
- 47:29Oh, yeah. Just like doing that.
- 47:30The like Austin Powers steamroller thing.
- 47:33They're like, get away. Get out of the way.
- 47:35She's like, no, just like that.
- 47:38No. Sorry.
- 47:40I don't know if I'm dead or not.
- 47:41And so, yeah, eventually they this film she wakes up.
- 47:44Apparently it was like a heart murmur.
- 47:45She had like a heart episode.
- 47:47So she actually was in the hospital when she wakes up and Charlie's there and she forgives him kind of invites him over for dinner with her family.
- 47:54No, she chooses not to change anything in her life.
- 47:58So this movie has a much more downer ending.
- 48:02Oh, no, come on. It was great.
- 48:04She like asked him if he was still with that bimbo.
- 48:08And he's like, oh, like I got tired of of translating everything for like basically.
- 48:16She was dumb and I got sick of her.
- 48:18And like, let's get back to let's get back together now.
- 48:21I guess she actually says to him, you can move back into your house with your kids.
- 48:29Just open arms.
- 48:31Just I don't know.
- 48:32She had a stroke at the reunion and she's like, I forgive you completely.
- 48:37Well, she just she went back in time and realized that just like no matter what, she was just going to be a housewife.
- 48:42So might as well be a housewife to the pseudo celebrity, the appliance king of Charlie.
- 48:49What did you think of his performance overall?
- 48:52Chef's kiss.
- 48:55I mean, he convinced Francis Ford Coppola to let him do it.
- 48:59Oh, yeah. That's a great that's he's performed somewhere.
- 49:03So Francis Ford Coppola, he saw that when it started and he asked him to stop.
- 49:08Is that how it works? He hated it.
- 49:10The crew hated it.
- 49:11Kathleen Turner really hated it.
- 49:14She didn't feel it was her job to critique another actor's performance.
- 49:19So she complained to Francis Ford Coppola, who Nick Cage had convinced to let him do this.
- 49:24So they just let it happen.
- 49:26And she just let that play into her disdain for Charlie.
- 49:30That's fine.
- 49:31Well, then what? How did she get back to her normal time frame?
- 49:36Because what? Grandpa was going to send her back.
- 49:39They had sex.
- 49:40And then Charlie.
- 49:41Charlie Black.
- 49:42Yeah, I love that.
- 49:44She toss a bag over and throw her in a van.
- 49:46That was such a surprise for me.
- 49:48Well, then there was like a lightning storm or something.
- 49:50And then she just woke up.
- 49:52Well, like they had sex and her child was conceived.
- 49:54So the timeline was fixed and then she woke up.
- 49:57OK, so this is like a hot tub time machine situation where you have to keep the timeline accurate.
- 50:02Yeah.
- 50:03OK. Unlike the family man where those children never existed.
- 50:07Apparently, when she went back in time, it did happen because the poet kid.
- 50:12He writes a book about fucking her.
- 50:14Yeah. Well, he like, yeah, he he dedicated a book to her, even though in high school they were they never talked.
- 50:20That's the proof.
- 50:22Time travels around.
- 50:23Apparently, all you need to do is have like a heart attack during your 25th high school reunion after being crowned Reunion Queen.
- 50:31That's totally real.
- 50:33That had some fucking Carrie vibes to it, too.
- 50:36I don't know if you guys felt that.
- 50:37Oh, man. Yeah, I did not want them to leave the reunion.
- 50:41I was having so much fun at the reunion.
- 50:44If my reunion looks like that, so I'm pretty sure I'm not invited.
- 50:47But like whatever I'd like to go if it's all cocaine or just like trying to sleep with.
- 50:52Yeah. Yeah.
- 50:53In high school, whatever, whatever Walter wants, Walter gets.
- 50:56Hell yeah.
- 50:57Whatever Walter wants.
- 50:59Walter gets.
- 51:01We talked about kind of the making of it and who was originally supposed to do it.
- 51:05Apparently, at one point, Steve Gutenberg was considered for Charlie.
- 51:08Would have been fine.
- 51:09He wrote about this.
- 51:10And here's the fun fact.
- 51:11The fun fact has nothing to do with Peggy Sue got married.
- 51:13The fun fact is Steve Gutenberg talked about this in his autobiography, The Gutenberg Bible.
- 51:20I read that his autobiography is called The Gutenberg Bible.
- 51:24I'm like, I'm going to talk about that on my podcast.
- 51:26I have to buy that book.
- 51:30So I thought that I read that Kathleen Turner got an Oscar nod.
- 51:34This was her one Oscar nod for her one Oscar nominated performance.
- 51:38OK, I almost I thought that she won.
- 51:41But that's not the case.
- 51:43She did not.
- 51:44She was nominated.
- 51:45That I thought was surprising enough.
- 51:47I thought she did a great job.
- 51:49I thought the performance was good.
- 51:50Movies were in the 80s.
- 51:52Yeah, it was fine.
- 51:54Outside of the voice being an issue, apparently Nicholas Cage and Kathleen Turner had other headbutting
- 52:00because she claimed that he was arrested twice and had stolen a dog.
- 52:04Allegedly.
- 52:05Allegedly.
- 52:06I hope he sold that dog.
- 52:10So, Eric, which movie do you think should go on?
- 52:13Like, honestly, what I keep in mind that it doesn't matter what you think.
- 52:17I came in with a clear favorite.
- 52:19But like, I think Peggy Sue is more fun to like watch again and again.
- 52:24All Stand By Family Man is like a good Christmas movie, overlooked.
- 52:29But I think Peggy Sue is just more it's wacky.
- 52:32All right, Nick, what's what's better cage film?
- 52:35So the real opinions are that no, he's right.
- 52:40Peggy Sue Got Married is a more entertaining movie to watch.
- 52:45It definitely has jokes and doesn't take itself overly seriously.
- 52:48Yeah.
- 52:49What Family Man is only serious.
- 52:51Yeah, it's not a lot of it like for it's not a romantic comedy.
- 52:55There's not that much comedy or romance.
- 52:58The Family Man.
- 53:00It was a fine watch.
- 53:01I'm glad I watched it.
- 53:02And for a feel good holiday film, it's kind of a downer.
- 53:07Yeah, I'm OK with that.
- 53:09I think we should have more depressing Christmas movies.
- 53:12We should go back in time and make we should make a Labor Day movie where somebody dies in the 9-11 accident.
- 53:21And that's like how the movie concludes.
- 53:23When does Labor Day happen?
- 53:25There's a movie starring Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, where it's just about two teenagers in love.
- 53:30And the film literally ends with him like going to see his father's office and he turns around and there's just a plane coming to the building.
- 53:36That's a weird way for Twilight to happen.
- 53:40I don't I don't know these movies.
- 53:43I can only assume he's been in The Lighthouse, Twilight and The Batman.
- 53:47Well, we did have a Harry Potter.
- 53:49We did have a lot of Harry Potter.
- 53:51What?
- 53:52He was he was the one who died.
- 53:53Yeah, he was. He got killed and motivated everyone to be like, oh, Voldemort.
- 53:57Yeah. Before he was in a Twilight, he was in a Harry Potter.
- 54:00So yeah, I think it's pretty soon got married is definitely the more entertaining watch.
- 54:04Oh, my argument for the family man was to be like, it's more of an actual Nick Cage film, but it's not the better.
- 54:10I would call it the better film.
- 54:12I just don't think it's like more fun or like rewatchable.
- 54:16Yeah. If I want to enjoy a performance by Nicolas Cage, I'm going to definitely choose the sex pest film,
- 54:22which makes you got married.
- 54:24The reverse sex pest film. And it's about time.
- 54:27Did you guys get is that an allusion to the pest with John Leguizamo?
- 54:31Yeah, so good.
- 54:32The sex pest. Just Leguizamo on a sex journey.
- 54:36Did you guys get to talk about the Mario brother movie?
- 54:39Right. Yeah. Why not?
- 54:42Do you see it when he gave it to that goomba?
- 54:45OK, we're calling it now.
- 54:47So that's your outro, Peter.
- 54:49Our next episode is City of Angels against Kiss of Death.
- 54:54That'll be an interesting one.
- 54:56Hey, if you want to be a patron and pitch dumb ideas to Sean, you can.
- 55:01That's not part of the SparkleBuddy tier.
- 55:03It's part of the SparkleBuddy.
- 55:05For five dollars a month, you can corner Sean at the bar and just tell him all your awesome ideas.
- 55:10No, no.
- 55:12So Josh. For ten dollars a month, you get his phone number.
- 55:15You all can corner Sean anytime.
- 55:18Ira, you get to text him late at night by being into the cage club.
- 55:24Thank you.
- 55:26Please rate, review and so hold on down below.
- 55:30We've decided that five dollars are SparkleBuddy's is ten dollars of the inner cage.
- 55:35Oh, the inner cage is good. Nice.
- 55:37It's like inner circle, but cage.
- 55:39There is totally an episode of Baywatch where Hulk Hogan had to fight Rattoradak Piper for the.
- 55:43Goodbye, everybody. Thank you for listening, Eric.
- 55:49Thank you for being here. Thanks for having me, guys.
- 55:51Thank you. Appreciate you being here.
- 55:53Cheers. Happy covid.
- 55:56I hope you guys enjoy it now, too.
- 55:58I got everybody a gift for having me on the show.
- 56:00I hope you like covid. It's all I got.
- 56:03I already had it.
- 56:05I was really bummed when like things don't work out with him when she breaks up with him that he doesn't go and invent grunge music early.
- 56:23Just go straight from barbershop to black hole sun.
- 56:29Yeah. Can you imagine if grunge actually came out of central California?
- 56:35Like it's just kind of sunny and shit.
- 56:39Things aren't bad. It's like there's nothing.
- 56:42It goes environmentally terrible.
- 56:45It goes from grunge to smash mouth.
- 56:47Yeah, just directly.
- 56:52I watched the core the other night.
- 56:54Did you really? Yeah, actually.
- 56:56Yeah, we watched it last night. So it was our Christmas evening movie that we watched.
- 57:01That must be after I left. Yeah, it was after you left.
- 57:04It was pretty fucking awesome.
- 57:06I could not believe there were so many people in that movie.
- 57:09It's got everybody. I'm assuming this is a call back to the last episode.
- 57:13No, no. Oh, because I know you and I have talked the core.
- 57:16Yeah, I talk about the core all the time because we fucking rules.
- 57:19And I was like hinging when I saw it.
- 57:22And then I was like, it's two hours. It'll be like 11 o'clock when it's done.
- 57:26Well, better just put it on.
- 57:28And I did not regret it. It was so weird.
- 57:31What? Why? Everything pays out.
- 57:33Like, why do they end up with a huge fucking geod?
- 57:37I don't know, man. It doesn't matter.
- 57:40They get broken down and they're like, all right, we got to get out for a little while.
- 57:44Yes, they're drilling to the center.
- 57:46It's like, good thing our suits can handle this atmospheric pressure.
- 57:52Welcome to Peter and Nick talk about the car.
- 57:55So yeah, this is a podcast.
- 57:57Our next podcast is going to be just us watching the core weekend week out.
- 58:01Yeah. Next time somebody gets COVID, this is the plan.
- 58:04We're just talking about the car.
