- 0:20Speaker 1: Hey, colerators, listens to all the men I've tolerated before
- 0:24Speaker 1: with Navlee Katona your weekly look at everyday misogyny. Today,
- 0:28Speaker 1: our guest is a new friend. Christiana is a writer
- 0:32Speaker 1: and reached out to me because finally I have someone
- 0:35Speaker 1: who wants to tackle the very important topic of the
- 0:38Speaker 1: men of Grey's Anatomy. I've been waiting, Christiana, Thank you
- 0:45Speaker 1: for giving me this opportunity to dive deep into a show.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I just refuse to let go after fifty three seasons.
- 0:55Speaker 2: It's an honor and a pleasure to be here. I
- 0:57Speaker 2: think I have been training for this for the past
- 1:01Speaker 2: twenty three seasons of my life. My husband is very
- 1:04Speaker 2: excited as well, and trying to give me tips all
- 1:07Speaker 2: along the way.
- 1:09Speaker 1: I love it.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a group sport in this house.
- 1:13Speaker 1: I've never had to watch Gray's Anatomy with a husband. Yes,
- 1:18Speaker 1: I used to congratulation, thank you. I used to watch
- 1:21Speaker 1: it with my mother on DVD. That's how we watched
- 1:24Speaker 1: the first two seasons. Yes, and then I would keep
- 1:29Speaker 1: up with it weekly until it's streamed, and then we
- 1:32Speaker 1: binged it a bunch of times. And I've officially done
- 1:35Speaker 1: a complete run through only twice because eventually you get
- 1:40Speaker 1: so mad you.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Watch yes, yes, Okay. Now I also have a very
- 1:44Speaker 2: supportive group text behind me, as all women do that.
- 1:48Speaker 2: I'm like, did we watch Gray's Anatomy or can I
- 1:51Speaker 2: just tell you everything? And they're the like, just tell
- 1:53Speaker 2: us everything, save us from watching it. So I am
- 1:56Speaker 2: like that person in the in the friend group.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Yeah, my sister also pretends to watch Gray's Anatomy and
- 2:02Speaker 1: instead just waits for me to live tweet her my thoughts.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Yes, So I started a rewatch about I mean, I'll
- 2:12Speaker 2: rewatched the first season a lot, like that's my that's
- 2:17Speaker 2: my warm blanket on a tough day. But I think
- 2:20Speaker 2: I made it to season seven and then I just
- 2:24Speaker 2: had to leave. I was like, I'm done. I cannot
- 2:26Speaker 2: do this anymore of my rewatch. So like, I've watched
- 2:29Speaker 2: every episode at least once, but I don't. I don't
- 2:34Speaker 2: think I could ever do a full rewatch. It's just
- 2:37Speaker 2: so so much at this point.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Well, and you really just have to be a really dark,
- 2:43Speaker 1: holiday depressive episode like I was this last time to
- 2:48Speaker 1: just keep going because you're like, I have no new
- 2:52Speaker 1: ideas on what to click on the TV and Grays
- 2:55Speaker 1: will just load up another episode for me.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Right, right? So, how was this rewatch?
- 3:01Speaker 1: Like?
- 3:03Speaker 2: When was the rewatch? No?
- 3:05Speaker 1: It was literally Christmas twenty twenty four.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Okay, so it's fresh. It's fresh, okay fresh?
- 3:14Speaker 1: Wow?
- 3:14Speaker 2: How long? How long did it take? Oh?
- 3:18Speaker 1: Probably embarrassingly not long enough.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Oh okay, No, I love that and I really am
- 3:24Speaker 2: really happy for you.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I hold up like a gremlin during the holidays and
- 3:29Speaker 1: I love to be depressed under a blanket.
- 3:33Speaker 2: And.
- 3:35Speaker 1: So yeah, it probably didn't take as long as it
- 3:38Speaker 1: should have because I was truly only keeping up with
- 3:41Speaker 1: Bravo shows and then moving over to Greece Anatomy.
- 3:47Speaker 2: I love it. I love it so the full, the
- 3:50Speaker 2: full rewatch, the things of dreams. I'm just so impressed,
- 3:54Speaker 2: Thank you, thank you.
- 3:56Speaker 1: It elicited so much rage.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Number one, It's like I'm almost like, should I never
- 4:07Speaker 1: have gone back? I've gone back to like One Tree Hill,
- 4:10Speaker 1: and I'm not pissed. I've gone back to Desperate Housewives
- 4:14Speaker 1: and I'm not pissed. Yeah, but graz Anatmy I was
- 4:18Speaker 1: mad the entire.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Time, right, I think this last So when I knew
- 4:25Speaker 2: we were going to get to do this, which I
- 4:27Speaker 2: was just elated for I was like, well, it's time
- 4:30Speaker 2: to episode one, Season one pilot, best pilot ever. And
- 4:35Speaker 2: it did change this time, knowing what we were going
- 4:38Speaker 2: to talk about, being like, okay, wait, I see this
- 4:40Speaker 2: differently now. I gotta let it go. I gotta let
- 4:43Speaker 2: go this moment because it's making me grouchy.
- 4:46Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure I've ruined my own my own life
- 4:50Speaker 1: by my whole brand be about like, what if we
- 4:53Speaker 1: just talked about misogyny all day every day. That's sexy,
- 4:57Speaker 1: But yeah, from the pilot is a pilot, and I
- 5:01Speaker 1: need everyone to know that Derek has maybe two to
- 5:04Speaker 1: four he has an entire season, because that first season
- 5:08Speaker 1: is only about nine episodes before I'm pissed and then
- 5:12Speaker 1: I'm pissed at him until he dies, and maybe I'm
- 5:15Speaker 1: still pissed.
- 5:16Speaker 2: I mean, I think we all, yes, that's okay, that's fair.
- 5:20Speaker 2: You don't have to let that go.
- 5:22Speaker 1: I realize that there are sixteen million hours of the show,
- 5:26Speaker 1: and some of you fell off, some of you have
- 5:28Speaker 1: only been clicking on BuzzFeed articles, some of you have
- 5:31Speaker 1: never picked up A Gray's Anatomy fixation. I'm going to
- 5:35Speaker 1: spoil everything, and that's my right as the producer and host.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Of the Yeah, and I think the statue of limitations
- 5:42Speaker 2: on a show that started in I think twenty two
- 5:46Speaker 2: thousand and four really like we got to talk about it,
- 5:50Speaker 2: like there's just two like and I think I think
- 5:53Speaker 2: it's in the zeitgeist that you know, there are those
- 5:56Speaker 2: ones episodes that you're like, oh, that happened, we know
- 5:59Speaker 2: this happened, and right, So, and we also talked.
- 6:03Speaker 1: About like what grason anomy through these very good looking,
- 6:07Speaker 1: very charming men implanted in our brains, about like our
- 6:12Speaker 1: worth as a woman. And I need you to know
- 6:14Speaker 1: that I was a sophomore in high school, if we're
- 6:19Speaker 1: talking two thousand and four, I was in that freshman
- 6:21Speaker 1: sophomore bubble of high school when the first episode of
- 6:24Speaker 1: Grades and an Me aired.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Okay, so you were sophomore in high school.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Because I graduated in seven.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Okay, so March twenty seven, two thousand and five, so
- 6:37Speaker 2: we're twenty years. We're yeah, twenty years.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Okay, Oh my gosh. When I say that show's been
- 6:43Speaker 1: off for twenty years, I'm actually correct. Good for me.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Yeah, from your internal grays clock is really like super accurate.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Well, and I think because people say, Nadley, why are
- 6:54Speaker 1: you still watching Grays Anatomy? None of the grades are
- 6:57Speaker 1: on it, and I go because it's just so to
- 7:00Speaker 1: still have weekly TV.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Yes, I agree. I think I think they did a
- 7:09Speaker 2: good job introducing new characters, like from like the premise
- 7:13Speaker 2: of the show, having a group of interns, having a
- 7:16Speaker 2: group of attendings and residents. I still don't know who's
- 7:19Speaker 2: what or what color they wear, but having that rotation
- 7:24Speaker 2: of oh, we got new interns in and some of
- 7:26Speaker 2: them are good and some of them spoiler get shot
- 7:29Speaker 2: a lot, so you know they don't all last. But
- 7:33Speaker 2: I think they do a fair job of at least
- 7:36Speaker 2: like entering like the new class of TV and introducing
- 7:41Speaker 2: us to people that we I mean, this newest round.
- 7:46Speaker 2: I think I have a love hate relationship with it's
- 7:49Speaker 2: and I will stop mid season and then when I
- 7:53Speaker 2: have like a long weekend or I'm sick in bed,
- 7:55Speaker 2: it's like, oh, it's time to watch seven episodes Agrees
- 7:58Speaker 2: Anatomy and finish this season that I started U ten
- 8:02Speaker 2: months ago.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I watch it weekly and then I'm pissed
- 8:05Speaker 1: when SHA goes five episodes and then it's like Oopsie,
- 8:10Speaker 1: it's our bor day. We're off, And I'm like, Shonda,
- 8:13Speaker 1: absolutely Honda. So yeah, I haven't angrily emailed her yet,
- 8:20Speaker 1: but let's okay, let's go back to that first season
- 8:24Speaker 1: and we have our We have Derek Shephard and Preston Burke,
- 8:28Speaker 1: the men who started it at all. And I will
- 8:33Speaker 1: say that that first season of Grays and Amy, I
- 8:35Speaker 1: was like, oh my god, Deren's humble, he's kind, He's
- 8:40Speaker 1: got like a good sense of humor. He truly is
- 8:46Speaker 1: taking this power dynamic a little bit seriously, even though
- 8:50Speaker 1: he's just kind of a goof. He loves fairies, yes, yes,
- 8:54Speaker 1: And then I'm very boat's not like fairies the magical
- 8:57Speaker 1: creature that should be stated for. He loves boats because
- 9:01Speaker 1: they're in Seattle. And then there's Preston Burke, who is
- 9:06Speaker 1: like the serious doctor man, who's very sexy, who is
- 9:10Speaker 1: also put trying to keep Christina at am arm's length away,
- 9:15Speaker 1: And I was like, see respect, Yeah, he respects there.
- 9:20Speaker 2: I I think I wonder if they if Shonda invented
- 9:28Speaker 2: the trope of I had a one night stand. Oops,
- 9:31Speaker 2: he's my boss, Like did that exist before? Or is
- 9:36Speaker 2: that just like my touchstone of the trope because I
- 9:39Speaker 2: love it. I want everyone to have a one night stand,
- 9:43Speaker 2: start a new job. Oops, he's my boss. Like it's
- 9:45Speaker 2: just it's so good.
- 9:46Speaker 1: It's so good, it's so funny. It's a real great gotcha.
- 9:51Speaker 1: It's also an HR violation and illegal.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Yes on my rewatch. So I did some of the
- 9:58Speaker 2: rewatch in like twenty twenty three, twenty twenty four, and
- 10:03Speaker 2: I think I'm most often texted where is HR to
- 10:08Speaker 2: my friends. I was like, this is just every single
- 10:12Speaker 2: step of the way they're HR violations, and they're not
- 10:15Speaker 2: all sexual. Some of them are just you know, confidentiality,
- 10:18Speaker 2: like maybe George shouldn't do surgery on Meredith, Like that's
- 10:23Speaker 2: just weird.
- 10:24Speaker 1: That's weird. They all know one another intimately. And I
- 10:30Speaker 1: the thing about like the the only other example I
- 10:34Speaker 1: can even think of of the oopsie I slept with
- 10:39Speaker 1: the guy not knowing that tomorrow he was going to
- 10:41Speaker 1: be important. Is That's how they play off the Pretty
- 10:44Speaker 1: Little Liar's relationship between Aria and Ezraad the teacher and
- 10:48Speaker 1: pretty Little Liar Combo oh meets him at a college
- 10:52Speaker 1: cafe or something, oh no, and they like will hook
- 10:56Speaker 1: up mildly, and then the next day he's her new
- 10:59Speaker 1: English teacher.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Okay, all right, I want I'm gonna do. My next
- 11:03Speaker 2: deep dive will be on this trope I will get
- 11:05Speaker 2: back to.
- 11:06Speaker 1: You, which, by the way, is a trope that young Natalie,
- 11:11Speaker 1: who was a pretty little liar, was like, and one day,
- 11:14Speaker 1: I too will wake up and have accidentally fucked my
- 11:18Speaker 1: boss or my teacher. And I think, and I tried
- 11:21Speaker 1: to just like manifest that energy for me. One day,
- 11:24Speaker 1: I too will have an obscene power imbalance that's ruining
- 11:30Speaker 1: my life.
- 11:30Speaker 2: I am probably not the one in power, right, correct.
- 11:35Speaker 2: I want the imbalance of power not in my direction.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I think that that's so interesting because according to Derek's
- 11:42Speaker 1: whiney ass, Meredith was in charge the entire time.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Oh my god, thank you for bringing this up. I
- 11:50Speaker 2: just finished the from episode, which is like a fave
- 11:56Speaker 2: of mine. And when they sleep together and then Calli
- 12:02Speaker 2: comes in and she's like, e is he needs you?
- 12:05Speaker 2: And he's like, Meredith, what does this mean? And I
- 12:08Speaker 2: was like, bullshit, Derek, you chose Addison and so just
- 12:13Speaker 2: because you finally got mad at Chris, O'Donnell Robin that
- 12:17Speaker 2: like Meredith has another viable option, like, don't pretend she's
- 12:23Speaker 2: had power this whole time, because he all he does
- 12:26Speaker 2: is take away power from her. And yeah, I'm so
- 12:29Speaker 2: I'm currently very mad at this rewatch, so the feelings
- 12:33Speaker 2: are fresh.
- 12:34Speaker 1: I am mostly mad because Meredith allows Derek to make
- 12:38Speaker 1: the decision that he needs to make as the person
- 12:40Speaker 1: with a spouse involved. She's like, figure it out and
- 12:44Speaker 1: let me know, and she gives him the space to
- 12:46Speaker 1: do that as much as she can, considering she's his
- 12:49Speaker 1: right hand man at every surgery.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Yes, she's the best intern brain surgeon ever, ever.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Ever, And so to me, I'm like, oh, that's almost mature.
- 13:03Speaker 1: But then Derek's so mad the entire time because he
- 13:07Speaker 1: himself chose Addison. Like Meredith didn't even break up with you.
- 13:12Speaker 1: She was like, figure out your house and you let
- 13:16Speaker 1: me know. And then she said choose me, love me.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Yeah, pick me baby, best line, and like, I hope
- 13:25Speaker 2: they are royalties just on that face. And then Shanda
- 13:28Speaker 2: just has a beach house somewhere on those lines.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Alone, and it's on pick me lane.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Yes, no, so yes that I I just finished watching
- 13:42Speaker 2: So Meredith the prom episode, she ends up having appendicitis
- 13:48Speaker 2: and is all loopy on the drugs and talks to Addison,
- 13:52Speaker 2: and Derek and Addison talk and She's like, don't hurt
- 14:00Speaker 2: her again, and then Derek is like, it's when Derek
- 14:03Speaker 2: and Finn, the Vet that is Meredith's other viable option
- 14:09Speaker 2: in season two or three, are like both dating her.
- 14:14Speaker 2: And so then Derek's like, I don't want to hurt her,
- 14:17Speaker 2: so I'm going to bow out. And that moment pisses
- 14:21Speaker 2: me off because that's not what Meredith asked for. Like
- 14:24Speaker 2: Meredith asked for romance. She wanted people to be dating her.
- 14:28Speaker 2: She wanted to have a choice, and Derek, trying to
- 14:32Speaker 2: be the good guy quote unquote, takes away that choice
- 14:36Speaker 2: from her and that is its own power dynamic that
- 14:40Speaker 2: like is enraging me, like blind rage. I'm so mad
- 14:43Speaker 2: at that moment because she wanted the choice, and the
- 14:47Speaker 2: choice was finally going to be hers to pick that
- 14:51Speaker 2: or Derek, and she was probably going to pick Derek eventually,
- 14:54Speaker 2: but he was too obsessed with being the good guy,
- 14:57Speaker 2: which is also why he chose Addison, and because he
- 15:00Speaker 2: wanted to be the good guy.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Yeah, he was just saving face and the way and
- 15:06Speaker 1: then at past season three, when I think Addison just
- 15:11Speaker 1: eventually gets sick of Derek and it's like I'm going
- 15:14Speaker 1: to make the choice and actually just bake Kate and
- 15:16Speaker 1: sleep with Mark. Good for me.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Yeah, that's all in that same season three, like appendicitis
- 15:23Speaker 2: thing that happens. So yes, that's all because I.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Will say, like the Addison moment of being like, don't
- 15:30Speaker 1: hurt her again, Like it's one thing for you to
- 15:33Speaker 1: be so mad at me that this is what's happening,
- 15:36Speaker 1: but like she doesn't have to be involved. There was
- 15:39Speaker 1: in those early seasons of Grey's Anatomy such camaraderie between
- 15:45Speaker 1: all of the women, even women who shouldn't even have
- 15:48Speaker 1: a relationship like Meredith and Addison.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, and even like Addison finds those panties and
- 15:56Speaker 2: Kelly says that they're hers, and like Meredith and Izzy
- 16:01Speaker 2: are super mean girls to Callie so much when she's
- 16:03Speaker 2: with George and Callie pulling those panties off of the
- 16:07Speaker 2: bulletin board to save to save face, to save face
- 16:11Speaker 2: for Meredith is like one of my all time favorite moments.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Like and even like finding Derek and Meredith in the
- 16:19Speaker 2: room and like helping Meredith tie up her dress. You're like,
- 16:22Speaker 2: Callie is a girl's girl, and she is like going
- 16:25Speaker 2: to bat for them when they're nothing but mean to her.
- 16:28Speaker 1: And I will say that, like, I think here is
- 16:30Speaker 1: an enemy in those first seasons is a testament to like,
- 16:34Speaker 1: you can have all the friends in the world, and
- 16:36Speaker 1: you can all be the smartest people in every medical
- 16:40Speaker 1: class that you ever went to, and yet you can
- 16:43Speaker 1: still be gas lit, and you can still be lied to,
- 16:46Speaker 1: and you can still just be dicked around and have
- 16:48Speaker 1: it have ramifications to everything that's going on in your friendships,
- 16:54Speaker 1: in your career and everything. I mean, it is a
- 16:59Speaker 1: soap opera, but like I think that we as women
- 17:02Speaker 1: and I know that, like this is me talking about myself,
- 17:06Speaker 1: I get so wrapped up in the I should have
- 17:08Speaker 1: known better. I should have seen it coming. I should
- 17:11Speaker 1: have like this is what happens. And there were signs
- 17:15Speaker 1: or whatever, and I was like, well, Meredith Graye was
- 17:18Speaker 1: doing brain surgery and also couldn't figure out that Derek
- 17:22Speaker 1: was like a little whiny man and she was the
- 17:24Speaker 1: woman next to him when he died.
- 17:26Speaker 2: So yeah, I do think, like you know, two thousand
- 17:33Speaker 2: and five, me, I was newly married. I was still
- 17:39Speaker 2: in my twenties. I was young, and I you know,
- 17:45Speaker 2: I'm still married to my husband, like we have a
- 17:47Speaker 2: great relationships, and yet you know, we watched this soap
- 17:50Speaker 2: opera with like is this love? Like this is so
- 17:53Speaker 2: sweet or like this is so good or you know
- 17:55Speaker 2: all that like good stuff, and now rewatching it, you're like,
- 18:00Speaker 2: oh no, why are you yelling at someone to say
- 18:04Speaker 2: that you love them? Or like why won't you let
- 18:06Speaker 2: me love you? In this really aggressive, yelly tone that
- 18:10Speaker 2: is really mean, Like I'm like, I don't want to
- 18:12Speaker 2: be told I'm loved that way. And maybe I thought
- 18:16Speaker 2: that was sexy and maybe there's a place for that
- 18:19Speaker 2: in a fun way, but not like in a this
- 18:22Speaker 2: is your real declaration of love to me?
- 18:25Speaker 1: Well, And I think what it boils down to is that,
- 18:28Speaker 1: like Derek and Preston Burke are the same category of men,
- 18:33Speaker 1: where Derek has figured out his entire fairy tale in
- 18:36Speaker 1: his head and you're just showing up to take the
- 18:39Speaker 1: role of his princess and it's still going to be
- 18:42Speaker 1: I'm the good guy, I'm a night, I'm a hero, whatever,
- 18:47Speaker 1: But that story's done been told in his brain and
- 18:49Speaker 1: you're just playing a role whereas Preston Burke, a very
- 18:52Speaker 1: practical individual, still assumes that any partner he has will
- 18:58Speaker 1: adopt all of these silent expectations for his life, and
- 19:03Speaker 1: he just creates a narrative in his head about Christina
- 19:07Speaker 1: that was not true.
- 19:11Speaker 2: The way he just talks down to Christina. The way
- 19:18Speaker 2: Burke talks down to Christina so often in the first
- 19:22Speaker 2: like two seasons and then when he his hand is injured,
- 19:27Speaker 2: is so toxic, and he's one of the ones who's
- 19:31Speaker 2: like yelling at her. And I was taking notes during
- 19:36Speaker 2: this rewatch because his like I love you moment is
- 19:42Speaker 2: he like, it's like when he calls her a slob
- 19:45Speaker 2: and he is, and he's like, and I am amazing,
- 19:48Speaker 2: Like you're a slob and I am amazing, and I'm
- 19:51Speaker 2: Preston Burke and I just want to love you. And
- 19:54Speaker 2: you're like, you just told her she's a slob, like
- 19:57Speaker 2: she's nothing, but you want to love her. But she
- 20:00Speaker 2: doesn't want to be loved in the way he wants
- 20:03Speaker 2: to love her. And their relationship is just so dark
- 20:07Speaker 2: and twisty, but not in the fun Grace way, but
- 20:10Speaker 2: I guess the fun gray Is way. That like when
- 20:13Speaker 2: he lets her. I don't want to jump too far ahead,
- 20:15Speaker 2: but when he lets her cover for his hand tremor
- 20:19Speaker 2: in surgery, like, that's when the power and balance really
- 20:24Speaker 2: makes my head explode, because she's putting her career on
- 20:29Speaker 2: the line to prop up his career and he is
- 20:33Speaker 2: totally fine with it, and even though maybe it's her idea,
- 20:38Speaker 2: like because that's what he says, like, this was your idea,
- 20:40Speaker 2: and you're like, but he's an adult man who could
- 20:46Speaker 2: have told his adult man doctors that he had a
- 20:50Speaker 2: hand trimor but he didn't.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Well, and he's also an adult man who's already made
- 20:55Speaker 1: his name in his career and will get all of
- 20:58Speaker 1: the leeway the hospital available to him.
- 21:03Speaker 2: We're like, yeah, right, and yeah, go ahead.
- 21:08Speaker 1: No, So it's just like it's it's so weird going
- 21:13Speaker 1: back and rewatching these episodes and just watching these two
- 21:16Speaker 1: men and their toxic little egos be like, I'll be
- 21:19Speaker 1: the best series. I deserve to be cheaf because they
- 21:22Speaker 1: all did fight over who's chief, and I deserve to
- 21:27Speaker 1: be cheap. I deserve to fuck this lady whenever I
- 21:30Speaker 1: want to, and scream at her that it's because I'm
- 21:33Speaker 1: in love with her. But also list all of the
- 21:35Speaker 1: things that I hate about her right after I tell
- 21:38Speaker 1: her that she I'm in.
- 21:39Speaker 2: Love with her right well, And I really thought it
- 21:43Speaker 2: was interesting when it's found out that Meredith is sleeping
- 21:49Speaker 2: with Derek and Christina is sleeping with Burke, the assumption
- 21:56Speaker 2: that these women should have known better, or that they
- 22:00Speaker 2: should that they're to blame for this from their other
- 22:06Speaker 2: in turns like Izzy's nothing but mean to Meredith, and
- 22:10Speaker 2: georgees thinks that Meredith's being taken advantage of, and Bailey
- 22:16Speaker 2: thinks she's gonna get preferential treatment. There's no screen time
- 22:22Speaker 2: given to these men being told anything about their actions
- 22:28Speaker 2: by their friends because they don't have any friends at
- 22:31Speaker 2: this point, or like the heat is all on the women,
- 22:36Speaker 2: like the women have caused these men to stumble, and
- 22:40Speaker 2: that dynamic in the first two seasons at least is
- 22:46Speaker 2: frustrating to me. And to skip ahead like in this
- 22:50Speaker 2: newest season with Winston Dugu and oh what is her name?
- 22:56Speaker 2: I wrote it down? Melan is her last name. Jules
- 23:02Speaker 2: is a reado of that dynamic where in Dougu is
- 23:07Speaker 2: trying to be the right nice guy and doesn't want
- 23:11Speaker 2: to cross the line because of how it looks to Richard.
- 23:15Speaker 2: But Jules is being punished and her career is going
- 23:18Speaker 2: to suffer by not getting to have a teacher as
- 23:21Speaker 2: good as Winston is.
- 23:23Speaker 1: And we'll see in approximately I don't know, sixty business
- 23:26Speaker 1: days when Shonda decides to show her show again about
- 23:32Speaker 1: how it will work out for Jewles. Because Jules looks
- 23:35Speaker 1: at me and dead in the eye and was like, hey,
- 23:38Speaker 1: I realized that I like talked you through a bad
- 23:41Speaker 1: time in a bad emotional moment, but I wasn't crossing
- 23:46Speaker 1: a sexual or relationship line. That was not my intention.
- 23:51Speaker 1: And she and not that he knows because he hasn't
- 23:54Speaker 1: asked her anything about herself. She's recently had a queer relationship,
- 23:58Speaker 1: she's going through a breakup. And I think that's the
- 24:01Speaker 1: thing about the men of Grey's Anatomy. They can only
- 24:04Speaker 1: view these women as they show up to them, right
- 24:08Speaker 1: in front of them, so they're never thinking, like I
- 24:10Speaker 1: wonder how Christina E Meredith Day is going No, never,
- 24:16Speaker 1: like I wonder if I should ask Jules what her
- 24:19Speaker 1: perfect date is never, or like if she has friends,
- 24:23Speaker 1: has she made friends in the hospital or whatever, or
- 24:26Speaker 1: like why she has a complete emotional spiral after her
- 24:31Speaker 1: former partner has to leave the hospital. No, it's literally
- 24:36Speaker 1: like these women show up in front of me and
- 24:39Speaker 1: then they are only there to drive my attraction and
- 24:43Speaker 1: my feelings and my ego and my career. At the
- 24:47Speaker 1: end of the day, I think, and I think with
- 24:51Speaker 1: like Derek and Preston, it became so clear that for
- 24:55Speaker 1: a majority, and I'm even talking about the Derek and
- 24:58Speaker 1: Meredith marriage, the majority of those relationships were spent telling
- 25:03Speaker 1: Meredith and Christina, you could be doing better, you could
- 25:06Speaker 1: be calmer, you could not be a pain in my ass.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Derek literally has a meltdown and tells Meredith that she's
- 25:13Speaker 1: difficult to love because she has a depressive episode. And
- 25:18Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, Derek, her mom is Ellis Gray, we
- 25:21Speaker 1: have depression.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Yeah. I thought it was interesting in the first season
- 25:28Speaker 2: when they're getting to know each other and trying to
- 25:31Speaker 2: date a little bit, and she it's the episode she
- 25:34Speaker 2: finds out about Addison when the phone's ringing, his phone's
- 25:37Speaker 2: readinging and it's Addison, and her phone is ringing, and
- 25:40Speaker 2: it's the care center where her mom is and her
- 25:44Speaker 2: mom having Alzheimer's is still a big secret and the
- 25:48Speaker 2: fact that those two secrets are being equated in the
- 25:52Speaker 2: parallel storytelling is not well weighted when it comes down
- 25:58Speaker 2: to it that like me keeping privacy about my famous
- 26:02Speaker 2: mom's disease is not the same as Derek keeping that
- 26:09Speaker 2: he is married still from her like and but yet
- 26:15Speaker 2: in the grayest parallel storytelling, those are the two things
- 26:18Speaker 2: that are running alongside each other. And I just found
- 26:22Speaker 2: it really imbalanced in this rewatch of Oh no, those
- 26:25Speaker 2: are not the same, Those are not the same weighted
- 26:28Speaker 2: things at all.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Well, and then like Derek crosses a boundary and goes
- 26:34Speaker 1: to the hair facility to visit Ellis, no one asks
- 26:38Speaker 1: him to. I forgot that, Oh my gosh, So he
- 26:43Speaker 1: does that he'd be doing that, And at no point
- 26:47Speaker 1: does he have any empathy or forethought for like how
- 26:53Speaker 1: this affects Meredith as a person. It's only the like
- 26:58Speaker 1: deans it has on their relationship, and he weaponizes Ellis
- 27:02Speaker 1: a lot against her or Meredith's depression that they talk
- 27:06Speaker 1: called the dark and drearies. But like it's depression, like
- 27:12Speaker 1: you you don't just like wake up, go to your job,
- 27:16Speaker 1: have to do emergency hours next to a fairy and
- 27:19Speaker 1: then go I'm gonna drown myself. And then Eric, and
- 27:22Speaker 1: then Derek's like, instead of just waiting waiting for Meredith
- 27:25Speaker 1: to wake up from this coma, he's just telling everyone
- 27:28Speaker 1: she's trigger warning suicidal. He's like, she knows, she knows
- 27:33Speaker 1: how to swim, she's a strong swimmer. I've watched her swim.
- 27:37Speaker 1: And he's creating a whole narrative. So then by the
- 27:40Speaker 1: time she wakes up, he's like, I can't love you.
- 27:43Speaker 1: It's hard. You have too many feelings.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I'm really glad I haven't gotten to
- 27:48Speaker 2: that part of the rewatch yet.
- 27:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, I'd like to move on from those bozo's.
- 27:56Speaker 2: They're the worst. I really do think they might be
- 27:59Speaker 2: the worst.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Oh no, they're not, because here comes the man of
- 28:02Speaker 1: the hour, the reason that hatred flames my entire body
- 28:08Speaker 1: even when I'm not watching the show, and that man
- 28:11Speaker 1: is Owen fucking Hunt.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Me is he is the worst? You're right? I stand corrected.
- 28:18Speaker 2: He wins the title of the worst of the worst.
- 28:21Speaker 1: My first note for Owen Hunt is he is only
- 28:24Speaker 1: on the show to bring women grief.
- 28:29Speaker 2: I think that is true.
- 28:32Speaker 1: He's like the bad ghost, the death ghost in the
- 28:37Speaker 1: Christmas Carol, just following these women around, taking their body autonomy.
- 28:44Speaker 2: I did make an unhinged graph that show holding up
- 28:52Speaker 2: right now. That is just a really unhinged moment of
- 28:57Speaker 2: who slept with who? And Owen and uh, he's with Christina,
- 29:04Speaker 2: He's with Teddy, he's with Amelia. Is that I mean?
- 29:08Speaker 2: But they're like, but he marries all of them, right,
- 29:11Speaker 2: He's married to three of them, like, and the only woman.
- 29:15Speaker 1: That he starts sleeping with and doesn't marry and or
- 29:18Speaker 1: have a child with is the Lucas's sister, which it's
- 29:22Speaker 1: kind of glossed over that happened with her. Yes, the
- 29:25Speaker 1: hottest woman on the planet.
- 29:27Speaker 2: She really is the hottest. I want her back on
- 29:31Speaker 2: this show. I want her back.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Because I don't know what Owen hunt and maybe, like
- 29:36Speaker 1: Shanda call In, is Owen Hunt on this show to
- 29:41Speaker 1: warn me about conservative men to be like, conservative men
- 29:45Speaker 1: are bad? Look how sad all these women are? Who
- 29:48Speaker 1: have ever stood next to Owen?
- 29:50Speaker 2: Yes, like these very successful, brilliant, wonderful women, like brilliant.
- 29:55Speaker 2: They're all brilliant.
- 29:57Speaker 1: And because the Lucas her who I've never had a
- 30:01Speaker 1: grasp out of her name, because They immediately take her
- 30:04Speaker 1: off Graze Anatomy to put her on the.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Firefighter show that I refuse to watch, Yes, which is
- 30:11Speaker 2: now canceled, which.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Is now canceled. She dumps Owen because she just wants
- 30:16Speaker 1: to be casually having sex with him, and he starts
- 30:19Speaker 1: treating her like his girlfriend, and then she's like, I
- 30:22Speaker 1: only do open relationships and his brain can't compute. He's
- 30:27Speaker 1: already decided they're married. Of course, yes, so they have
- 30:32Speaker 1: to stop sleeping together. And I think that's how he
- 30:35Speaker 1: ends up praying on Christina and or Amelia.
- 30:39Speaker 2: I think Christina comes first though, right, because of the icicle.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Yeah, the Christina stuff. Right. We do see Owen Hunt
- 30:48Speaker 1: for like forty five seconds, and then he disappears for
- 30:50Speaker 1: half a season.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Oh I do remember that. Oh man.
- 30:54Speaker 1: I understand why Christina was so comforted by Owen Hunt,
- 30:58Speaker 1: because he's so blunt and it's like a Preston Burke
- 31:02Speaker 1: who's not smart enough to play Preston Burke games where
- 31:06Speaker 1: you always know how he's feeling and you and you
- 31:10Speaker 1: know that he's just damaged enough to like you or whatever.
- 31:15Speaker 1: But damn another one where I'm like, why can't Christina
- 31:19Speaker 1: find one man who actually enjoys who she is as
- 31:23Speaker 1: a person.
- 31:24Speaker 2: And also, how does Christina need to have to like
- 31:30Speaker 2: surprise babies like surprise pregnancies and then too abortions or
- 31:37Speaker 2: maybe she doesn't have this she maybe she miscarries the
- 31:40Speaker 2: first one that she was going to have an abortion.
- 31:45Speaker 1: No, I think her and Preston have two pregnancies. I
- 31:48Speaker 1: think it's both. I think she has a miscarriage when
- 31:52Speaker 1: they're first sleeping together. Yes, right, they date seriously, she
- 31:56Speaker 1: has a second present pregnancy and he but they're open
- 32:00Speaker 1: up again and he holds her through an abortion or
- 32:03Speaker 1: something because Owen doesn't show up for her. Owen hunt
- 32:08Speaker 1: abortion because he's pro life.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Right exactly. So I think that, like him crawling in
- 32:13Speaker 2: bed with her, is when she miscarries because nobody knew
- 32:17Speaker 2: she was pregnant, right, But I also is there another one? Yes?
- 32:21Speaker 1: I have three now this image in my head of
- 32:24Speaker 1: her sitting in a chair and she doesn't think anyone's
- 32:28Speaker 1: coming because her and merediths are kind of on the
- 32:30Speaker 1: house and he shows up and grabs her hands even
- 32:35Speaker 1: though they're pissed off at one another. I think it's
- 32:37Speaker 1: after the tremor.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Oh, No, this woman needs to never have surprise fait pregnancies. Ever.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Also, Owen Hunt is the king of surprise pregnancies. I'm
- 32:51Speaker 1: convinced he refuses to use protection and he's just one
- 32:55Speaker 1: of those guys.
- 32:56Speaker 2: I don't want to get into that that would just
- 32:57Speaker 2: make him an even word, like he's the worst of
- 33:00Speaker 2: the worst. I can't have him be even more worse.
- 33:03Speaker 2: I think that brings up the point of sometimes like
- 33:08Speaker 2: the good guys in the show that present as good
- 33:12Speaker 2: guys are really the worst guys. And I feel like
- 33:15Speaker 2: Owen is given that like hero entrance with the icicle
- 33:20Speaker 2: and the I you know, veteran status, he's a war doctor.
- 33:28Speaker 2: And then you know, George falls into that category of
- 33:31Speaker 2: like he's just a nice guy, but really he's not
- 33:36Speaker 2: a nice guy, and he's not kind to the people
- 33:39Speaker 2: he is in relationships with at all.
- 33:42Speaker 1: No, George was terrible to Cally.
- 33:46Speaker 2: I'm in the throes of that part of it, and
- 33:48Speaker 2: it's really really terrible and also hilarious that Callie's rebound
- 33:54Speaker 2: is Mark Sloan like, you're you're with George because like you,
- 34:00Speaker 2: I think George is hot and he put his hand
- 34:02Speaker 2: in a heart in an elevator and oh my gosh,
- 34:05Speaker 2: he's great. But then you rebound with Mark Sloan, which
- 34:07Speaker 2: is like he's a ten and like, so they're just
- 34:12Speaker 2: not on the same level. And George was really really
- 34:16Speaker 2: hateful to her every step of the way.
- 34:18Speaker 1: George is really hateful to Cally for someone who you
- 34:22Speaker 1: can still tell still has sex like a virgin. So
- 34:27Speaker 1: she upgraded to Mark Sloan, who's like literal side hustle,
- 34:31Speaker 1: is pleasing women.
- 34:33Speaker 2: Yes, and he's very honest about what he's going to
- 34:36Speaker 2: bring to this table. He's like, here I am, I'm
- 34:39Speaker 2: the dirty mistress and like, let's have some fun.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Also, Mark Sloan queer ally. When Calli wants to start
- 34:48Speaker 1: dating women, Mark teaches her how to go down on women.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Oh I forgot that, Yes he is. They had a
- 34:57Speaker 2: great relationship.
- 34:58Speaker 1: So he's fully slept with Kelli. They've had some sort
- 35:02Speaker 1: of friendship camaraderie or whatever. And then he's like, you're
- 35:05Speaker 1: in date chicks. That's hot. Do I get to know details?
- 35:09Speaker 1: And she's like no, and he's like, what if I
- 35:12Speaker 1: teach you how to decunning? Lingis the correct way, right.
- 35:16Speaker 2: And that's what you know. The guys that come on
- 35:20Speaker 2: the show as assholes, I think really are who they
- 35:24Speaker 2: are and don't hate women as much as the guys
- 35:28Speaker 2: who come on as the good guys. Is my theory.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Yeah, because Owen Hunt does get this like hero treatment
- 35:35Speaker 1: from all of the men too, because he's seen combat
- 35:38Speaker 1: and they're all hard about it. They're like, uh, he
- 35:41Speaker 1: can do surgery with a stapler, and they're also so
- 35:47Speaker 1: mad that he's like he man risen from the hospital
- 35:52Speaker 1: pace and they're so mad at him, but they're also
- 35:56Speaker 1: in awe of him. And then like so you can
- 36:00Speaker 1: that hero worship. And then like Christina like literally is
- 36:03Speaker 1: like I don't care how many times he physically abuses me.
- 36:06Speaker 1: I'm gonna heal his PTSD because I too have PTSD.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Right, and I you know, speaking of PTSD, I think
- 36:17Speaker 2: when I stopped watching the show the second time was
- 36:21Speaker 2: after the shooting episode and all of the trauma bonding
- 36:27Speaker 2: that went on after that, where there were a lot
- 36:30Speaker 2: of relationships kind of on the bubble, if I'm remembering correctly,
- 36:34Speaker 2: and then they all really like doubled down in bad
- 36:37Speaker 2: relationships after the shooting, So like Owen and Christina, they
- 36:43Speaker 2: were like Owen was torn between Teddy and Christina and
- 36:46Speaker 2: then doubles down on Christina, and then Lexi and koreb together,
- 36:51Speaker 2: and then she is still with him afterwards, and you're like, no, guys,
- 36:55Speaker 2: that's the wrong choices. Don't choose them again. Please. That
- 37:00Speaker 2: trauma bonding really like threw all the relationships into a
- 37:04Speaker 2: meat grinder.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Well because Christina and Owen I didn't realize only get
- 37:08Speaker 1: married because Christina is basically a mute Oh yeah, after
- 37:14Speaker 1: the plane crash and he like yes Nell from the
- 37:19Speaker 1: movie Now.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Yes, I slid callback.
- 37:22Speaker 1: He liam Ne sins her. He tries to make her
- 37:26Speaker 1: fit for society again and that isn't so she marries.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Him and then he gets mad about her surprise pregnancy
- 37:36Speaker 2: and her abortion that he probably never forgives her.
- 37:39Speaker 1: For because none of these men except for Mark Sloan
- 37:42Speaker 1: and Alex Karev, are listening to these women when they talk.
- 37:46Speaker 1: I Christina Yane is the first person I think I
- 37:50Speaker 1: ever heard on TV say I don't want kids and
- 37:54Speaker 1: then actively chose that choice. Every day, Oh a surprise baby,
- 37:59Speaker 1: A boy it another surprise baby aboard it, like, because
- 38:04Speaker 1: usually we get the oh, I don't want I don't
- 38:06Speaker 1: want kids and then those surprised that her pregnancy happens
- 38:09Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden you rise to the acage.
- 38:12Speaker 2: H yeah, yes, I do not like that in stories
- 38:17Speaker 2: or plots, and I think a crossover to shows of
- 38:24Speaker 2: where men hate women. The Secret Lives of Morgon Wives
- 38:28Speaker 2: has a surprise pregnancy this last season, and it was
- 38:33Speaker 2: traumatic to watch this woman who wanted to leave her
- 38:36Speaker 2: husband is pregnant, very pregnant, and decided to stay and
- 38:42Speaker 2: had to leave the show because she was so depressed
- 38:44Speaker 2: about it.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Also, by the time, have you watched the reunion yet,
- 38:48Speaker 1: because it's like she's had a lobotomy, I'm like.
- 38:50Speaker 2: Who that the blonde hair? It is? Don't worry darling.
- 38:54Speaker 2: Is that the name of that that went so badly?
- 38:57Speaker 2: It is that she is very, very blonde, very baby voice,
- 39:01Speaker 2: very just happy and you know what, maybe she's on
- 39:05Speaker 2: some great meds that are helping her. Who knows number
- 39:09Speaker 2: one of the Mormon wives.
- 39:10Speaker 1: I don't know how much Knada mean they gave her,
- 39:12Speaker 1: but it was enough to like literally literally turn her
- 39:17Speaker 1: into a trad wife over again. They're all trad wives.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Yeah, but right, So we have the two examples of
- 39:24Speaker 2: the surprise baby's surprise pregnancies.
- 39:27Speaker 1: And I yeah, and the rising to the occasion, And
- 39:31Speaker 1: I don't think that we give Christina Yane enough credit
- 39:35Speaker 1: for or I guess Shonda or for whoever wrote the
- 39:38Speaker 1: story arc how much that means to me as a
- 39:42Speaker 1: woman who does not want to have kids, where I
- 39:44Speaker 1: always have Christina Yane to lean back on to be like, look,
- 39:49Speaker 1: I guess it doesn't matter if no one holds my
- 39:51Speaker 1: hand during the abortion or this is a choice that
- 39:55Speaker 1: I we also taught me that, like just because you're
- 39:59Speaker 1: saying it doesn't mean that you they're hearing it, So
- 40:02Speaker 1: you literally have to live it and call their bluff.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Yes, right, because in both occasions, and maybe this mysterious
- 40:12Speaker 2: third that I've blocked out is her really doubling down
- 40:16Speaker 2: and saying absolutely not. That's not what I'm doing. That's
- 40:18Speaker 2: not the path that I'm on. I'm not going to
- 40:20Speaker 2: be a general surgeon mommy, Like I'm I know what
- 40:24Speaker 2: I'm good at and I'm going to pursue it. And
- 40:26Speaker 2: I think you're right. It is really like seeing that
- 40:31Speaker 2: is powerful. And I waited like seven years before I
- 40:35Speaker 2: had kids, and a lot of questions of when are
- 40:38Speaker 2: you going to have kids, and there's a I don't
- 40:40Speaker 2: know that I ever want them, Like I didn't know
- 40:42Speaker 2: if I ever wanted them until I decided to have them.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Yeah, And then I also think that it was so
- 40:50Speaker 1: interesting this next this last watch through, how when Meredith
- 40:55Speaker 1: gets pregnant and actually wants a family with Derek, how
- 41:00Speaker 1: betrayed Christina feels.
- 41:01Speaker 2: About that.
- 41:04Speaker 1: And like, I'm like, you know, it's shitty, but she
- 41:08Speaker 1: I understand where they like grief and that hurt comes
- 41:11Speaker 1: from because like I think Christina always thought that her
- 41:14Speaker 1: Meredith would do life together and then Meredith goes one
- 41:19Speaker 1: hundred percent.
- 41:20Speaker 2: In on Derek, right, Yeah, Yeah, I think that that
- 41:27Speaker 2: it is. I think it is hard. I love that
- 41:31Speaker 2: Sandra O chose to not be on the show, Like
- 41:33Speaker 2: I love that journey for her as an actress, and
- 41:36Speaker 2: I wonder what kind of stories we could have had
- 41:40Speaker 2: with her on it and not just her like text
- 41:43Speaker 2: bubble every once in a while on the show.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Someone in a wig at Derek's funeral that we're supposed
- 41:50Speaker 1: to believe is Christina Yane.
- 41:52Speaker 2: And I'm also glad that they didn't kill her off
- 41:54Speaker 2: and that she got to live a life outside of
- 41:57Speaker 2: that was the life she chose.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Yeah, us finally, And when it comes to Owen Hunt,
- 42:05Speaker 1: he just he's always looking for a broken bird to heal,
- 42:11Speaker 1: but he doesn't want you to actually be healed. He
- 42:13Speaker 1: wants you to be in doctrine to him. He wants
- 42:16Speaker 1: you to imprint on him like a werewolf. And we
- 42:21Speaker 1: see it with Amelia. Amelia always has a large piece
- 42:27Speaker 1: of my heart because she tells Owen Hunt, I didn't
- 42:29Speaker 1: love you. It was a brain to her.
- 42:31Speaker 2: Yes, that is the best hilarious get out of jail
- 42:36Speaker 2: free whoop see like a racer to the storyline that
- 42:40Speaker 2: maybe we need more of.
- 42:42Speaker 1: And now he finally is married to Teddy and that
- 42:46Speaker 1: was supposed to be ed game. But he's also never
- 42:50Speaker 1: considered the fact that Teddy had an entire life outside
- 42:54Speaker 1: of him, and then we find out it's a queer life.
- 42:58Speaker 1: And I can't imagine the king of pro life is
- 43:01Speaker 1: also the king of.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Gays, the king of you named our baby after your
- 43:09Speaker 2: first true love? Yeah, Alison, Yeah, I think the Teddy
- 43:16Speaker 2: Owen dynamic is like, since they're the ones that are
- 43:22Speaker 2: currently on the show right now from the season's past,
- 43:27Speaker 2: is the most infuriating because it's like they don't know
- 43:31Speaker 2: what to do with Teddy as not someone who's like
- 43:34Speaker 2: pining after Owen or ruining her marriage by sleeping with
- 43:39Speaker 2: care Assics or whatever it was, you know that went
- 43:43Speaker 2: on with them, and they don't her being chief and
- 43:48Speaker 2: almost dying because she didn't go to the dentist or whatever,
- 43:52Speaker 2: and her being mad at Owen for legitimately almost ruining
- 43:57Speaker 2: their lives and them having to run away to where
- 44:00Speaker 2: and seek legal counsel, like it felt like she was
- 44:03Speaker 2: the bad guy in that that, like Owen made some
- 44:07Speaker 2: choices that were bad for everyone, like the law, and
- 44:13Speaker 2: yet it seemed like Teddy was like the adult that
- 44:19Speaker 2: was like, oh, you did a bad thing, and now
- 44:22Speaker 2: your Teddy's also the villain for being mad at that.
- 44:26Speaker 1: Well, and isn't it always funny that like Owen, Hunt's
- 44:29Speaker 1: hands are always tied where it's like, well, I had
- 44:32Speaker 1: to be there for Christina. She was now she was
- 44:36Speaker 1: nailed out after the plane crash, and then it was well,
- 44:40Speaker 1: I had to help these guys break the law and
- 44:44Speaker 1: choose to end their lives because I'm a veteran and
- 44:47Speaker 1: I know how it is. And then it's like, well,
- 44:49Speaker 1: I had to love Teddy because she's been pining for
- 44:52Speaker 1: twenty years, and then it eventually turns into and I
- 44:55Speaker 1: had to sleep with that other woman I knew in
- 44:57Speaker 1: high school because Teddy was supposed.
- 44:59Speaker 2: To sleep exactly exactly and like.
- 45:03Speaker 1: Literally my hands are tied. It's never actually his responsibility
- 45:09Speaker 1: and he's so bad.
- 45:11Speaker 2: Well right, And that goes back to the idea that
- 45:14Speaker 2: the women are the ones that it's all their fault,
- 45:20Speaker 2: that it that they're the ones that are held responsible
- 45:24Speaker 2: for men's actions or men's desires or men's feelings, and
- 45:32Speaker 2: the men just get to have these feelings and these desires.
- 45:35Speaker 2: And that's not to say I I love the women
- 45:40Speaker 2: characters on Grays and I don't want to shit on
- 45:43Speaker 2: Shonda because she gave us so much and I love
- 45:46Speaker 2: her so much, you know, even you know she so
- 45:51Speaker 2: we have been given these stories of complex women, and
- 45:54Speaker 2: so I don't want to shit on that. But I
- 45:56Speaker 2: do want to shit on that these men are awful
- 45:58Speaker 2: and that they aren't the examples of love that we
- 46:01Speaker 2: maybe thought they were twenty years ago. And as they're
- 46:05Speaker 2: trying to evolve the storyline, like with Winston and Mellon
- 46:12Speaker 2: or Jewels, I don't know how to say your last name.
- 46:16Speaker 2: It's like they're trying to redo it and do it better,
- 46:18Speaker 2: but it's still like not fully there because the men
- 46:22Speaker 2: are still kind of awful. We're a lot awful.
- 46:26Speaker 1: I see as positioning our awful man Reagun over to
- 46:30Speaker 1: Miranda's husband, Bend, and I'm like, not Ben. You can
- 46:35Speaker 1: have any of them, but you can't have Ben. There
- 46:38Speaker 1: are so many other husbands to choose from that. Ben
- 46:42Speaker 1: has stood by Miranda through a thick infant and has
- 46:47Speaker 1: done it almost flawlessly.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Yeah, like, and they've adopted two children in one year, right,
- 46:54Speaker 2: and yes, he is great. I was looking at I
- 46:59Speaker 2: was trying to re fresh my memory on all the
- 47:01Speaker 2: different relationships for my very childlike drawing of the relationship web,
- 47:09Speaker 2: and it always came down to, like Ben and Miranda
- 47:13Speaker 2: best relationship on this show. All of them were like
- 47:16Speaker 2: they got it, they got it going on, and You're like, good,
- 47:18Speaker 2: we need some unproblematic people.
- 47:21Speaker 1: Because I really thought that this season was going to
- 47:23Speaker 1: end with Miranda kicking Ben out again because he was
- 47:27Speaker 1: clearly going to lose his job at Seattle Gray's for
- 47:30Speaker 1: all the shit he was pulling. And that does and
- 47:33Speaker 1: I was going to stand with Miranda on that because
- 47:35Speaker 1: it does rat up her anxiety, and it's like the
- 47:40Speaker 1: meds can't do it all, like the meds, the therapy,
- 47:44Speaker 1: the breathing techniques, like at some point you have to
- 47:48Speaker 1: also just stop breaming stress into my workplace. And you
- 47:54Speaker 1: know it didn't end that way. It turns out that
- 47:59Speaker 1: Teddy and Ohen we're the breakup of the finale episode,
- 48:02Speaker 1: and I was like, thank god, thank god.
- 48:07Speaker 2: With that breakup felt I want to say lackluster, Like
- 48:12Speaker 2: I feel like I missed it.
- 48:14Speaker 1: Yeah, Teddy just going I'm finally choosing me. What does
- 48:18Speaker 1: that mean? Do we get Sophia Bush back? Yes? Or no?
- 48:22Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah?
- 48:23Speaker 1: I mean.
- 48:24Speaker 2: Nobody should have said no to that, Like if this
- 48:27Speaker 2: is Hamilton and we're Maria Reynolds, like, don't say no
- 48:31Speaker 2: to that.
- 48:32Speaker 1: No. I am so mad and frustrated that no one,
- 48:42Speaker 1: no one got Sophia Bush into a compromising position.
- 48:46Speaker 2: I was like, ah, right, and like, what's going on
- 48:49Speaker 2: with Amelia's love life? This is just a tangent at
- 48:52Speaker 2: this point. Why is where are we at with Amelia?
- 48:55Speaker 2: She's just working solving al Zheimer's.
- 48:58Speaker 1: Yeah, and is she going to kill Standley Morales, yes
- 49:01Speaker 1: or no?
- 49:02Speaker 2: Right, no exactly. Oh, I forgot about them because they
- 49:04Speaker 2: don't put them together because their chemistry is so wonderful
- 49:08Speaker 2: that we would just need them to be together for us.
- 49:11Speaker 2: He's like, they're so good.
- 49:16Speaker 1: I know, it's like Sophia and Nabley. You can tell me,
- 49:19Speaker 1: would you just not sign up for more episodes? Right?
- 49:23Speaker 1: Let us know comment? Because again, because okay, I was
- 49:29Speaker 1: almost to the point where I was like, Okay, they're
- 49:32Speaker 1: bringing in whole new people. I don't I don't have
- 49:35Speaker 1: to be involved here. And then the woman who plays
- 49:38Speaker 1: Jules is a woman who played Mary Quino Scott on Rain,
- 49:42Speaker 1: which is a shitty WB show.
- 49:45Speaker 2: I mean, the WB knows what it is and stays
- 49:49Speaker 2: in its lane to perfection, you know.
- 49:52Speaker 1: And I watched every minute of Rain and loved it,
- 49:55Speaker 1: and I am so attracted to her, and I was like, bye,
- 50:00Speaker 1: I'll watch a couple of episodes and see if I'm
- 50:02Speaker 1: still attracted to Adeline Kane. And it turns out I am.
- 50:05Speaker 1: And then I was starting to get over it again
- 50:08Speaker 1: because there's too many of them, so it's not like
- 50:10Speaker 1: anyone I care about is getting enough screen time and
- 50:13Speaker 1: then they went and then Sophia Bush posted a picture.
- 50:16Speaker 1: I think maybe it was public on Instagram. I like
- 50:18Speaker 1: to think it was just for me, and it was
- 50:20Speaker 1: her in a gray Sloan coat, and I was like, God,
- 50:25Speaker 1: damn it, Shonda. Every time, every time Sophia Bush can
- 50:30Speaker 1: get me to do anything and go anywhere, the white man,
- 50:36Speaker 1: Brooke Davis can get me to do anything anywhere. And
- 50:44Speaker 1: I guess Shonda knows someone's paying attention to my social
- 50:47Speaker 1: media exactly.
- 50:48Speaker 2: They know how to hook us back in, they know
- 50:50Speaker 2: how to carry this.
- 50:52Speaker 1: I do want to touch on George and give it
- 50:56Speaker 1: its actual moment, because I think we just breeze to
- 51:00Speaker 1: buy him. Yeah, George is one of those guys who
- 51:05Speaker 1: is so mediocre looking and nervous and not funny enough
- 51:10Speaker 1: that you don't think he's a threat. And the entire time,
- 51:14Speaker 1: all he's doing is waiting for you to have the
- 51:17Speaker 1: one big breakup so you sleep with him. He's like,
- 51:20Speaker 1: one day, I'm gonna get it. I'm gonna get it.
- 51:23Speaker 3: I wish I was good at editing and could re
- 51:30Speaker 3: edit certain scenes with like serial Killer music for George's scenes,
- 51:37Speaker 3: like like if we could rewatch this and it's you
- 51:40Speaker 3: season Grace, like of him just being.
- 51:46Speaker 2: Not the good guy, Like he looks like the good guy,
- 51:48Speaker 2: but really he just wants to have Meredith in a way.
- 52:00Speaker 1: Izzy or Christina or truly any of them. I think,
- 52:06Speaker 1: I think, like I think that's what you learned from
- 52:08Speaker 1: George is like he'd take any of them. And then
- 52:11Speaker 1: he's so mad when it's CALLI and it's like why
- 52:15Speaker 1: because she's fun?
- 52:18Speaker 2: Oh right, Okay, so several things. I don't think George
- 52:25Speaker 2: really ever liked Meredith. I think he liked the idea
- 52:29Speaker 2: of Meredith and the things that he says about her.
- 52:33Speaker 2: It's like, and you were wearing the black dress with
- 52:35Speaker 2: the shabby sandals, and we talked about this, And I
- 52:39Speaker 2: just don't think he really ever had a conversation with her.
- 52:42Speaker 2: I don't think he listened to her. I don't think
- 52:44Speaker 2: he was a good friend to her. And then even
- 52:47Speaker 2: when they sleep together and they're both consenting adults and
- 52:51Speaker 2: it doesn't go the way he wants, and then he's
- 52:54Speaker 2: the one that tells everybody what happened on accident and
- 52:59Speaker 2: she is the one that's that fault because she should
- 53:02Speaker 2: know better. When he they finally talk He's like, I
- 53:07Speaker 2: knew you didn't want me. I just and You're like, well,
- 53:09Speaker 2: that's the creepiest thing you could say, and that's not
- 53:12Speaker 2: an apology and that just makes you awful.
- 53:15Speaker 1: Right Well, and then it's the same thing. So like,
- 53:19Speaker 1: is he takes the brunt of the George and is
- 53:22Speaker 1: the affair like they end up cheating on Kelly together. Yes,
- 53:26Speaker 1: and it's Isy's fault even though George prayed on Meredith
- 53:30Speaker 1: when she was grieving Eric, and he prayed on Isy
- 53:33Speaker 1: when she was grieving the death of the perfect man.
- 53:37Speaker 1: Denny to do cats.
- 53:39Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, did you see Jeffrey Dean Morgan is
- 53:42Speaker 2: hosting a new reality TV show that I will be watching. Yeah,
- 53:45Speaker 2: I shot that.
- 53:46Speaker 1: I so to bring One Tree Hill back in because
- 53:50Speaker 1: I never leave.
- 53:52Speaker 2: Shout out to the WB.
- 53:54Speaker 1: Shout out to the w B. Denny Duquatz. Jeffrey Dane
- 53:57Speaker 1: Morgan is married to Hillary Burton, who played Peyton Sawyer
- 54:02Speaker 1: of One Trio. They are the hottest gull I've ever seen.
- 54:09Speaker 1: I get minute by minute updates on them because whenever
- 54:15Speaker 1: I'm having a bad moment, and there are several I'm like,
- 54:18Speaker 1: maybe I could find a new picture of Hillary and
- 54:20Speaker 1: and Jeffrey Dean standing next to one.
- 54:23Speaker 2: Okay, well, I want to sign up for this group
- 54:25Speaker 2: text where you just like curate the news and photos
- 54:28Speaker 2: of them for me.
- 54:29Speaker 1: They're so hot. And Denny Ducatz was the perfect man
- 54:33Speaker 1: because he was on the show for ten minutes, so
- 54:35Speaker 1: he couldn't disappoint.
- 54:36Speaker 2: Us, right, And he barely ever stood up right. He
- 54:40Speaker 2: just was in bed. He was laying down the whole time,
- 54:44Speaker 2: and he was loving Izzy.
- 54:46Speaker 1: Yeah. And he died and had that hurt heart murmur
- 54:49Speaker 1: Thane before we could learn anything about his relationship with.
- 54:53Speaker 2: His bad and then he had millions of dollars. So
- 54:55Speaker 2: I just a perfect man. He knew what he wanted.
- 55:00Speaker 1: But George sleeps with like is. He's clearly spirally And
- 55:05Speaker 1: I will say that Alex Kreb the douchebag himself at
- 55:08Speaker 1: least waits a year, maybe more, maybe until at least
- 55:14Speaker 1: is he can start formulating sentences again without crying to
- 55:18Speaker 1: be like, maybe I heal you from the Danny duquettes
- 55:22Speaker 1: of it all.
- 55:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the thing one of the things that
- 55:29Speaker 2: I hate about George is that the way he never
- 55:33Speaker 2: sticks up for CALLI with the girls and like it
- 55:36Speaker 2: would have gone so far if he had done anything.
- 55:41Speaker 2: But I think he liked that that they didn't like her.
- 55:46Speaker 2: I think that that gave him something like, oh, they're
- 55:49Speaker 2: protecting me, or oh everybody is paying attention to me,
- 55:53Speaker 2: and Cally is being punished by being attracted to me
- 55:57Speaker 2: by my friends, And then he can completely disrespects Callie.
- 56:01Speaker 2: And that's the other thing, is that back to the
- 56:04Speaker 2: power dynamic. Here's one example of Callie is the attending
- 56:10Speaker 2: and George is the intern, and everybody's fine with this relationship.
- 56:14Speaker 2: No one seems to have any problem with it, And
- 56:17Speaker 2: like if it was the if the girl was the intern,
- 56:20Speaker 2: I feel like then we would have a problem with
- 56:23Speaker 2: the girl in turn, you know, but he completely doesn't
- 56:29Speaker 2: respect her as a doctor. Like there's an episode where
- 56:32Speaker 2: he's questioning her choices to do surgery on an like
- 56:36Speaker 2: ultra marathon runner and he gets him to leave the
- 56:40Speaker 2: hospital and you're like, you just can't respect this woman's profession,
- 56:45Speaker 2: like her actual schooling profession. You George no better than
- 56:51Speaker 2: this doctor, And then he gets hit by a bus.
- 56:55Speaker 2: He does that who is Gonna Die? Episode was really dark.
- 57:02Speaker 1: Well, and also like, so George is that little guppy
- 57:07Speaker 1: who can't so like he is the first intern in
- 57:11Speaker 1: the intern class to kill someone during surgery. He is
- 57:16Speaker 1: also the only one who doesn't pass his boards, so
- 57:19Speaker 1: he has to repeat his intern year and so like
- 57:24Speaker 1: it's all boiling up, and I'm like, ooh, this is
- 57:28Speaker 1: why we need to start telling people that like, men
- 57:31Speaker 1: like George are dangerous, like literally they will get beaten
- 57:35Speaker 1: down enough where their pride is literally nothing. So now
- 57:39Speaker 1: he's gotta go and like shame CALLI all day every
- 57:43Speaker 1: day and then be like, but you should be my wife.
- 57:48Speaker 2: Right, or like you should not move in because I
- 57:54Speaker 2: changed my mind but never told you out loud. Or
- 57:57Speaker 2: you should let me love you because I didn't say
- 58:02Speaker 2: I loved you, but let me say it when I
- 58:04Speaker 2: want to. Like, every interaction that they have that could
- 58:08Speaker 2: be or should be romantic does not age well after
- 58:13Speaker 2: twenty years, just like.
- 58:15Speaker 1: One of those tiny little dogs that has something to
- 58:17Speaker 1: prove all the time.
- 58:18Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, and I think him and Korev Alex and
- 58:22Speaker 2: George are a really good mirror to each other because
- 58:27Speaker 2: Alex comes in as like a douche and a womanizer
- 58:31Speaker 2: and is sleeping around and gives George syphilis or whatever
- 58:38Speaker 2: STI that went around the hospital and like, but that's
- 58:44Speaker 2: who Alex was, and he knew who he was and
- 58:47Speaker 2: he was honest about it and he didn't try to
- 58:50Speaker 2: hide it. And I feel like that's like with Mark too.
- 58:53Speaker 2: He comes in and owns that he slept with Addison,
- 58:58Speaker 2: is honest, that he loved Adam Sin and he also
- 59:02Speaker 2: continued to sleep around.
- 59:04Speaker 1: Yeah. Also, like, and I think the difference between like
- 59:08Speaker 1: Mark and Alex is they can actually see women as
- 59:14Speaker 1: a whole person and then when it's real for them,
- 59:17Speaker 1: Like Alex was great to Izzy during the whole cancer scenario.
- 59:22Speaker 1: He was a good husband to Joe. He was disrespectful
- 59:25Speaker 1: as fuck when he left.
- 59:27Speaker 2: Yes, but we blamed that on the scam artist Grange situation.
- 59:33Speaker 1: Now, Yeah, you gotta watch that documentary.
- 59:35Speaker 2: It's wild, oh so wild, but resolved a lot of
- 59:39Speaker 2: my anger at the show.
- 59:40Speaker 1: Yeah, uh huh. And then and then like Mark with
- 59:44Speaker 1: Lexi and how much he truly cared about whether or
- 59:49Speaker 1: not he was crossing a line with Little Gray and
- 59:54Speaker 1: what ramifications that was going to have on not even
- 59:58Speaker 1: just her career, but like also her personal life. Like
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: all of a sudden, he has a twenty two year
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: old daughter, and and it's like, well, Lexi herself is
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: twenty five, so what does this look like? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: and he's going to be a grandpa. And like I mean,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: Mark and Luxey kill me, just truly kill me.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: Yes, I think that. I think like with Mark and
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: with Alex, they are who they are and they grow
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: and they change, like Alex hating being Addison's intern and
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: being that intern for punishment, but then growing into the
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: you know, into Pedes. They were upfront about it and
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: not that it's okay to come in hating women or
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: being a womanizer or you know, they I think have
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: enough growth. But also, like you said, see women as
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: women and like sex asider they I don't know, They're
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: not as bad as George is what I'm saying, or
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: Preston or Owen. Yeah, you're like, I'm gonna get with
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: Alex because or like Kellie sleeping with Mark, I'm gonna
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: have a good time with Mark because George is being
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: a little bitch. So I know what I'm choosing, I'm
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: and getting what I want out of it. You know,
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: everyone's satisfied in that story.
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: And what Kelly ends up with is a father for
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: her baby.
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: Exactly and like a best friend and.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: A thorn in Arizona side.
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: Yes, yes, no, I didn't like it.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: It's such a large show, and it's such a large cast,
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: and we are at the point where we are recycling
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: story plotlines and we're getting new Derek's, new Burkes and
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: new marks every day. But I really do think like
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: there's so much weight to that show, and it is
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: because it's been going on for twenty years, such a
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: time capsule of how women have disrespected or respected ourselves,
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: like what we were willing to put up with.
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: Meredith doesn't even tell Nick that she's gonna move to Boston.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: She just puts her house on the market.
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: Right, And I did they somehow get engaged in this
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: last episode? It felt like Nick, you don't like him?
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: No?
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: I love Nick? Oh yes, okay. I'm like, I want
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: the Felicity actors to just be on everything forever, and
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: I'm be happy.
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: I never watched Felicity and.
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: I didn't watch it either. I just love that these
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: men keep popping up and I know that they are
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: from the WB, so maybe you do need to watch it.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Everyone should be watching the WB, is what I'm saying sponsorous.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: Are they still bankrupt? Are they bankrupt? Are they around still?
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: Who knows?
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: Okay, who knows?
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: I but yeah, when it comes. I also liked that
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: man with the good hair who was Owen's friend from
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: the Wars who Riggs Rigs like the man with the
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: good hair Rigs. He unfortunately had to quick quick craze
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: anatomy to be on the most boring show in existence,
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: Virgin River.
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: Wait, is that why he left?
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: Yeah, he's the main guy on Virgin River.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: Now what is that a w B show?
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: No, it's a Netflix show, okay, and it's basically off
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: of like Christian romance novels. Okay, you should watch one
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: episode for me. Time doesn't exist on Virgin River. Will
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: go three years between seasons, and yet they pick it
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: right back up like we had just not seen these
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: people five minutes ago, and it's like they paged thirty years.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: Okay, So Riggs ended up with Meredith, but then was
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: in love with Owen's sister who they found right. Okay,
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: but see, I wonder what happened to like the Scottish
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: or Irish man that had interest in.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: Christ.
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I was very mad that that never took
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: off with Meredith because I was I was into that accent.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: I was there for that storyline, and then maybe he
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: has a show somewhere and that's why he left.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: I know, I didn't follow him to the next I
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: did rigs though.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: Okay, well, now I'm gonna google that later and find
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: out what happened.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: Virgin River is so wild because they'll say the most
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: dramatic shit dead panned like no one has any feelings,
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: and then they just panned to a beautiful mountainside because
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: with the river going through it, and you're your mind
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: is just white from what awful conversation just happened.
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: It's wild.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: It's a wild job.
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: I love it.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I feel like that's all we wrote.
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I think. I mean, like you said, they are
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: starting to read do storylines a bit with new with
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: the new class of interns that they keep bringing in.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: I'm also I'm not one to throw women under the
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: bus for being misogynists, but I hate Catherine Webber.
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: Oh, she is going through something and I want to
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: believe that it's Alzheimer's for some reason, and then she's
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: gonna have to fund them, like then she can finally
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: put the money behind them, and I get it.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: Like Catherine Webber is the quintessential. I worked really hard
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: to get where I was. But you also married into
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: a family with a bunch of money and a medical
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: right award and association or whatever we call it. So okay, Catherine,
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: But Catherine worked really hard for everything that she was
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: due or whatever, so like she can't stand when, like
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: Meredith finds a loophole mm hm, and then she has
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: to make everyone's life hell, which I guess is what
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: conflict is for. But I'm like, Catherine, could you just
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: be a girl's girl once right? Once right?
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: Stop punishing a lot of people.
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: Because younger women, just younger women who are probably as
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: talented as you.
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: I yeah. That that branches into the other conversations of
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: how you know, generationally we are we don't prepare the
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: next batch of leaders, right you sure don't.
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: We instead resent them, yes, and punish them and make
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: things harder. Cute, cute. I really hope the millennials break
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: that trend, just because we're too tired to punish.
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: People, right exactly, We'll just be like, go next generation,
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: you got it. We believe in you, We believe in you.
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: Jen z Well Christiana. This has been a bucket list item,
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: and I'm so happy that one writing class brought us together.
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: Me too on this On this show, we pray to
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: the altar of a lot of women, and one of
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: those women is Chelsea Devantas.
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: Yes, Chelsea, thank you.
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: He brought me to so many talented people. And now
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: I get to talk about Grey's Anatomy. Probably because Chelsea
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: was like, I can't talk to you about One Tree
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: Hill one more time. I did not see it. I
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: did not watch it. So here I am on my
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: own show being like, I have two passions in life,
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: and that's crazy to me.
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: I'm glad that our venn diagram can match up for grace.
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: Also, thank you for just like putting yourself out there
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: and being like I can do it. I'm ready.
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: I mean, of all the topics you throughout, this one
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: by far was the one I was made for twenty
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: years in the making.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: Oh wait, we didn't even do our clothes. I'm trying
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: to shut down the show. We didn't do our closing ceremony.
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: I'm already just thanking people. What is the biggest lesson
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: that you've taken away from Gray's Anatomy.
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: Okay, Like, okay, I think it's hard to distill twenty
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: years of watching one show into one takeaway. I think
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: I think my takeaway is to be more like Mark
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: Sloan and Alex and to be honest about who you are.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: Just show up and be the person that you are,
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: and don't try to hide behind being the good guy.
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: Just say I'm ambitious or I'm a womanizer or I
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: don't want kids. Just be you and just don't pretend.
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: And also don't don't get punished by others for how
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: you make them feel. Like all these women getting punished
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: for how they made men feel. That's just I don't
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: have place to hold that. So those are my takeaways
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: right now.
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: I think mine. And again maybe it's paranoia, maybe I
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: just want you all to be safe, but I truly
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: think we have to start actually tracking men's words against
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: their actions and how I once had a friend tell
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: me she was like, I wrote down every mean thing
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: and X said to me and never showed it to you,
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: but like I would just like, you know, look at
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: it from occasion to like ratify that that was real,
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: that those were things that he said to me. And
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: I'm like, yes, you have to clock every mean thing
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: they say to you, and how often and in how
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: many different ways that they say to you. I've been
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: in a relationship where I was constantly asking a man
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: it sounds like you don't like me, instead of just
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: walking away from that man.
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: Right, yeah, yeah, yeah, I think you're right listening to
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: the actions over the but I love you and our hormones.
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: I was just having this conversation with my friend yesterday
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: about how like our bodies are literally set up to
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: gaslight us, to continue to have sex with a man,
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: to continue to procreate and keep the species alive. So
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: you have to like in those moments when because I've
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: also been in relationships where as soon as he left
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: my driveway and was far enough down the street, my
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: whole body would reset and I would just be like
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: anxious and hate myself and hate him and hate everything
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: that I just did. But then the next day he'd
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: show up and my hormones would flood me with the
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: good feelings. I'd be like, man, I'm crazy, I don't know.
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: Yeah, like you, we have.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: To start understanding our own hormones and our conditioning and
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: the way that our bodies are built to gaslight us.
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: That's a good one.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: Yeah. What is something that you would like to manifest
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: for the cast of Grace Anatomy, Shonda, the collective audience, everyone.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I want to manifest. I mean, you know,
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: it's crazy out there in the world today, but I
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: want more of you know, good good TV that we
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: get to talk about. I know it's silly, but I
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: think those conversations that we get to have, like about
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: the dumb shit about Love Island about twenty years Agree's anatomy,
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: like laughing about that, Like having those moments with people
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: that we get to connect about art, highbrow or lowbrow,
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: Like that's where it's at, That's where the good stuff is.
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: And I just want us all to have those moments
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: of like, wasn't that episode really good? Or don't we
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: hate it? Or you know, it's that connection that I
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: just I want more of that right now, just connecting
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: with people.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: No, you we were on the same late Oh yeah,
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: because I was like I want more people sliding into
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: my dms to talk to me about my trashy shows.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: Yes, Like I post all.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: The tiktoks of everything that I'm ever watching on my TV,
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: So get on my Instagram and my TikTok and start
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: putting in the comments what you think about all these
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: trashy shows that I'm obsessed with? Like I maybe told
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: my sister not two weeks ago that I was contemplating
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: getting a one tree Hill tattoo. So everyone way in
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: because I'm seeing Tyler Hilton in about a month and
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: maybe a month tomorrow, So do I get them what
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: tree Hill tat?
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: You know? Oh my gosh, I love this.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: So everyone way in. And but yeah, I never want
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: TV to go away. I love books, I love movies,
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: but I love TV. And I miss everyone watching the
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: same thing on Wednesday and then talking about it at
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: school or work or wherever on Thursday.
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: I totally I agree. I think I've had the best
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: chat on Discord and on Patreons about TV this year
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: that has been so life giving to me. That has
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: just been us freaking out about Severance or what's going
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: on on Love Island right now, and it's just, you know,
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: those connections matter, They're so good.
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: Best friend of the podcast in my eternal spiritual life
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: partner any Seek and I watch we will only watch
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: Anne just like that together, taxteeing one another through how
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: it because to me, it's not worth it. It's such a
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: ridiculous bad show. Yes, Like someone has to be paying
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: attention to my jokes, right, yeah, you're like they need
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: an ear. Someone has to be paying attention to my thoughts.
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: One time, one of the text messages I sent her
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: was oh, no, old lady fall, and it was about
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: carry Fawley down the stairs or something. I was like, oh, no,
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: old lady fall. But yeah, because I mean, it doesn't
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: hit as much when I'm just reenacting Rosie O'donnald's singing
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: for good Cynthia Nix City Time Square because she's never
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: even watched Sex in the City.
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: She has no reference for any of this. And she
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: refused to watch the cliff if I sent it to
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: her from TikTok. She's like, I actually want to see that.
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: I go, well, none of us wanted to see it, right, Yeah,
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: I just miss it. I miss sensational and sensanctionalized TV. Yes,
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: And I am watching every minute of Love Island and
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: pretty much in real time, so people need to be
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: getting into them dms.
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: Right, I mean, yeah, we're gonna have to leave this
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: to go watch it and vote probably and vote.
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: Yeah, because this is the only I mean, I think
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: this is the most dedicated I've been at as a
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: TV voter since American Idol.
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: You know, like the people what they want, we want
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: to vote on relationship.
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: We do, Christiana, do you have anything to plug before
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: I let us go?
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: Oh? I write book reviews on Instagram in the little
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: books to gram corner of the world at Christiana with
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: a K. It's my name. It's just I hope hard
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: just easy to spell.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: It doesn't matter if it's hard or easy to spell,
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: because it's gonna be in the show notes.
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: Wait, so that's where people can find me.
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: Yes, I love book reviews. I also read a lot just.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: So oh yeah, there's no rush.
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: But I've been tracking my books and my TV and
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: my movies on TikTok and I just really feel like
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: people should be talking to me more than I want you.
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: You know. It's funny. I so my page is mostly
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: book reviews, but I realize not everybody's going to read everything,
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: and we get to have the best conversations about what
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: we're watching though, because that is the great equalizer of
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: I mean, unless it comes down to I don't have
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: that streaming service so that is a little hard, but.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: Yeah it is well, tolerators, you know where to find
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: us and get into my dms about one Tree Hill.
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: Maybe I'll start Felicity if enough of you bother me,
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: please bother me. I'd love to start Felicity. Uh it's
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: Nadley K one two four for the personal one Men
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: I've Tolerated pod for all podcasts related things Nadley K
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: one two four on TikTok and I don't know, start
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: typing into all the men I've tolerated before on Pinterest, YouTube,
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: and any other social media site you're on. See what
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: happens I don't know. They all auto post and share
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: with one another. So pick your poison and remember, tolerators,
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: you don't have to smile through anything you're tolerating, including
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: a batch of men with differing levels of really good
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: hair but really bad attitudes.
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: Smiles are for joy.
