- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, my name's Santasha Nabananga Bamblet. I'm a proud yr
- 0:04Speaker 1: the Order Kerni Whoalbury and a waddery woman. And before
- 0:08Speaker 1: we get started on She's on the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:58Speaker 4: Hello, and welcome to She's on the the podcast for
- 1:01Speaker 4: millennials who want financial freedom. Do you ever feel like
- 1:04Speaker 4: everyone is just way ahead of you when it comes
- 1:07Speaker 4: to money? I don't know if you can relate to
- 1:09Speaker 4: this so much, but certainly, like maybe the people listening,
- 1:11Speaker 4: it kind of just feels like, no matter how far
- 1:14Speaker 4: you go, it feels like you still aren't where you
- 1:17Speaker 4: want to be, but also where everyone else is, it's
- 1:20Speaker 4: like so much further ahead. Like it just always feels
- 1:22Speaker 4: like you're running this rat race.
- 1:24Speaker 2: We all do it.
- 1:24Speaker 4: Points which is why we're talking today about the cost
- 1:26Speaker 4: of comparison culture. On today's episode. My name is beck
- 1:30Speaker 4: Side and with me as always is Victoria Divine. Hello,
- 1:33Speaker 4: my friend.
- 1:34Speaker 5: I'm excited to talk about this because we have talked
- 1:37Speaker 5: about comparison culture on the podcast before. It was honestly,
- 1:40Speaker 5: like terrifyingly a couple of years ago. Back we've been
- 1:44Speaker 5: around a while, but you're right, like, I do go
- 1:47Speaker 5: through things and feel like I'm behind, and I think
- 1:50Speaker 5: if I had admitted that publicly to you, you'd be
- 1:53Speaker 5: like ve pull your head in, like when the pretty
- 1:55Speaker 5: girl goes, oh, I'm so ugly today, and you're like, absolutely,
- 1:59Speaker 5: you are not sit down, Like what the heck? Like
- 2:01Speaker 5: you're the prettiest thing I've seen in my life. You know,
- 2:03Speaker 5: when someone says something and it feels unhinged, you're like, oh,
- 2:06Speaker 5: they can't believe that, Like, yes, absolutely not. What do
- 2:09Speaker 5: you mean you got up on the wrong side of
- 2:11Speaker 5: the bed. You're basically a supermodeled Like, yeah, that's what
- 2:14Speaker 5: it feels like when someone like me goes, oh, yeah,
- 2:17Speaker 5: the cost of comparison, like everyone's doing better than me
- 2:19Speaker 5: because it's public knowledge. They're like, I know, money and
- 2:22Speaker 5: I'm pretty good at it, and I've bought property and
- 2:25Speaker 5: you know, I'm good at investing, and I think lots
- 2:27Speaker 5: of people look at me and go just got it together.
- 2:30Speaker 5: Thank you for that.
- 2:31Speaker 2: I would like to keep that aura up that I'm
- 2:33Speaker 2: really good at money.
- 2:34Speaker 5: But there's always someone doing better, right, Like, it doesn't
- 2:37Speaker 5: matter what good position you get into, there's always going
- 2:40Speaker 5: to be someone doing better, someone doing more, someone that
- 2:43Speaker 5: you can compare yourself with. So I think we need
- 2:46Speaker 5: to contextualize it in that way because it's ridiculous totally.
- 2:51Speaker 5: Why aren't we just comparing ourselves to past us? Like hey, Beck,
- 2:55Speaker 5: you know what twelve months ago, past you wouldn't have
- 2:57Speaker 5: even been comfortable having this conversation and you go, oh yeah, Actually,
- 3:02Speaker 5: Like if we think back to when you started on
- 3:03Speaker 5: the podcast, you were like, oh, I've never invested, and
- 3:06Speaker 5: now you're like, yeah, so my goal this year probably
- 3:08Speaker 5: going to invest, Like I've been looking at this and this,
- 3:09Speaker 5: and you know you're talking about ETFs like you know what.
- 3:12Speaker 2: They are now? Like do you know what I mean?
- 3:14Speaker 5: So like, let's compare to past us, not future us,
- 3:17Speaker 5: or you know what we could have been or the
- 3:19Speaker 5: missed opportunities, and I think you know, everybody to some
- 3:23Speaker 5: degree goes through this, and that's why we obviously have
- 3:26Speaker 5: to talk about it in more depth today because to me,
- 3:30Speaker 5: the cost of comparison culture links so closely to our
- 3:34Speaker 5: mental health but also our finances, and to me, those
- 3:37Speaker 5: two things are incredibly important to talk about.
- 3:39Speaker 4: So we're here now. I completely agree that that's a
- 3:43Speaker 4: really good way to look at it. Actually, compare yourself
- 3:46Speaker 4: to your past self. Unless your past self was thriving,
- 3:49Speaker 4: then compare yourself to I don't know, but.
- 3:52Speaker 5: Also look at that you did it like even if
- 3:54Speaker 5: they were thriving. Like Beck, you've done it before, you
- 3:57Speaker 5: can do it again. We can get back there, like
- 3:59Speaker 5: everyone falls off the bandwagon at some point with something
- 4:02Speaker 5: totally that's so true, but our community are gritty. It
- 4:05Speaker 5: means they get back up and try again.
- 4:07Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:08Speaker 4: Okay, So a little bit later in the episode, we
- 4:09Speaker 4: will give you some tips to help combat comparison culture.
- 4:13Speaker 4: But before that, let's talk about what it is and
- 4:15Speaker 4: why it holds such a power over us. Why are
- 4:18Speaker 4: we like this fee?
- 4:20Speaker 5: I mean, firstly, let's talk about it from an evolutionary standpoint,
- 4:24Speaker 5: right like innately with social little creatures, but some more
- 4:27Speaker 5: than others, like you and I. But you and I
- 4:30Speaker 5: and everyone alive today are basically descendants of a very
- 4:33Speaker 5: long line of people who knew how to fit in
- 4:36Speaker 5: with a pack, because that's what survival meant. And people
- 4:40Speaker 5: didn't really survive if you couldn't get into the pack
- 4:42Speaker 5: or if you were, you know, ostracized from the pack.
- 4:45Speaker 5: So I think it's really important to keep in mind
- 4:48Speaker 5: that we are a pack community at heart. And now
- 4:52Speaker 5: you look at the world and go, I don't even
- 4:55Speaker 5: know my neighbors, Like it's a very strange juxtaposition, Like
- 4:58Speaker 5: there's all these quotes about you know, it takes a
- 5:01Speaker 5: village to raise a child, and like you look at
- 5:03Speaker 5: it now and be like, I'm on the village talking
- 5:04Speaker 5: to my child, Like I'm not even gonna put them
- 5:06Speaker 5: on the internet, do you know what I mean? Like
- 5:08Speaker 5: the world is such a different place. But innately, we
- 5:11Speaker 5: are pack animals and we thrive when people around.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Us are thriving.
- 5:16Speaker 5: We kind of look to each other to get a
- 5:18Speaker 5: sense of ourselves as well and where we should be
- 5:20Speaker 5: in life. And so historically, if we're in a pack,
- 5:23Speaker 5: everything was kind of like shared. Did you get a
- 5:25Speaker 5: piece of the animal that we just killed. Yep, great,
- 5:27Speaker 5: did you great? Like we don't have different collections of
- 5:30Speaker 5: stuff when you live in a pack. You don't have
- 5:32Speaker 5: a house, you don't have you know, a car or
- 5:34Speaker 5: something more shiny, because the idea was always to you know,
- 5:37Speaker 5: contribute to the greater good and you know, essentially like
- 5:40Speaker 5: we only just wanted to survive and that's where we've
- 5:43Speaker 5: come from. But we're not in survival mode anymore. And
- 5:46Speaker 5: I think it's normal to compare ourselves, but it's also
- 5:50Speaker 5: something that we have to be really careful of because
- 5:53Speaker 5: I think immediately, because of this pack culture mentality, you go, well,
- 5:57Speaker 5: if their casa, I probably should have it m hm,
- 6:00Speaker 5: and immediately like, that's that pack culture overshadowing the way
- 6:04Speaker 5: that you're feeling, when in reality, we're now all our
- 6:07Speaker 5: own little packs and we're running our own races and
- 6:10Speaker 5: we have different things to say. And I mean, I
- 6:12Speaker 5: don't think it's about just ignoring other people, right, but
- 6:15Speaker 5: I do think it's about checking in with our personal
- 6:18Speaker 5: values and not trying to keep up with the Joneses
- 6:20Speaker 5: next door because you don't know how much debt they're in,
- 6:22Speaker 5: and just keeping things sustainable for ourselves because yes, times
- 6:26Speaker 5: have changed, and yes you do want to compare yourself,
- 6:30Speaker 5: but like that doesn't mean it's constructive.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Even though you go, oh, well, you know.
- 6:33Speaker 5: If I compare myself to Beck, I'll become a better person,
- 6:36Speaker 5: you go, well, not really, like I'm really sorry, but
- 6:39Speaker 5: you might manifest yourself into Beck and then realize that
- 6:42Speaker 5: Beck had different values than you did, completely and you're
- 6:45Speaker 5: on a completely different life trajectory than you actually wanted
- 6:48Speaker 5: to be, right.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Yeah, because we are social creatures and it's a good
- 6:50Speaker 4: like way to figure out like oh am I tracking?
- 6:54Speaker 4: Or am I developing? Or am I where I should be?
- 6:58Speaker 4: Let me have a look at people my own a end.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Also where do you want to be?
- 7:02Speaker 5: Because like, if you look for people your own age,
- 7:04Speaker 5: like are they doing exactly what you want to do?
- 7:07Speaker 4: That's the thing. They're not doing exactly what I want
- 7:08Speaker 4: to do. The things that make me happy mean that
- 7:11Speaker 4: my life isn't going to look exactly like that.
- 7:13Speaker 5: I agree, all right, so I've gone full hippie dippy.
- 7:16Speaker 5: A couple of weeks ago, we had our team retreat
- 7:19Speaker 5: and I went away and I was like working with
- 7:21Speaker 5: our internal team, so you didn't get a guernsey. I'm
- 7:24Speaker 5: really sorry because it turns out you don't work for
- 7:26Speaker 5: me full time yet. But I will continue to rally
- 7:28Speaker 5: and basically bully you into it at some point. But
- 7:31Speaker 5: I want to do a really quick exercise, and we
- 7:33Speaker 5: were all about exercises on retreat, and I want us
- 7:37Speaker 5: to each share three things that we love that we
- 7:40Speaker 5: value really highly, that I guess motivates us to live
- 7:44Speaker 5: our best life or our favorite parts of our life,
- 7:47Speaker 5: and then explain, why would you prefer if I went first?
- 7:50Speaker 5: Or would you like to go first?
- 7:51Speaker 4: Maybe you go first? And shine you shy shine.
- 7:54Speaker 5: Okay, So I have three things that I've written down,
- 7:58Speaker 5: and I'm going to put you more on the spot
- 7:59Speaker 5: because I didn't prep you.
- 8:00Speaker 2: But minor like lame things, all right, So first thing.
- 8:03Speaker 5: First, we know that I adore my morning coffee with
- 8:06Speaker 5: my husband Steve and my dog. I feel like I
- 8:09Speaker 5: wake up in the morning and it's just like I'm
- 8:12Speaker 5: so happy to get out of bed at six am, like,
- 8:14Speaker 5: and on the days that my husband has to go
- 8:17Speaker 5: to work early, we literally prioritize getting up even earlier
- 8:21Speaker 5: so that we don't miss that part of our day.
- 8:22Speaker 4: To get that is very early, and I'm impressed.
- 8:27Speaker 2: But that's what's a value to me. And I'm also
- 8:28Speaker 2: mentioning it because I just.
- 8:29Speaker 5: Know I couldn't drag your sorry butt out of bed
- 8:32Speaker 5: to go on a five k walk every morning and
- 8:34Speaker 5: get a coffee with the dog.
- 8:35Speaker 2: You'd be like, have fun, guys, I'll be waiting here
- 8:37Speaker 2: for when you get back.
- 8:38Speaker 4: Right, I could think of a million things I'd feel
- 8:41Speaker 4: it to me.
- 8:42Speaker 5: That sets my day up, and like, I had to
- 8:45Speaker 5: be up at like four thirty this morning, right, a
- 8:48Speaker 5: whole heap of work to do. I had really early
- 8:50Speaker 5: interviews with the US and like, I'm so grateful for that,
- 8:53Speaker 5: but that was one thing that I missed because I'm not.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Getting up earlier than four thirty to go for a
- 8:57Speaker 2: walk with my husband.
- 8:58Speaker 5: In fact, yeah, I think if i'd that to him,
- 9:00Speaker 5: he would be like, all right, that's where I draw
- 9:02Speaker 5: the line.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Yeah, may as well not go to bed.
- 9:04Speaker 5: Yeah, Like we're just not doing that, Victoria anyway. So
- 9:07Speaker 5: I think that's it. I love speaking at events and
- 9:10Speaker 5: in front of people, like I love big crowds of
- 9:14Speaker 5: people who are all on the same page, Like I
- 9:17Speaker 5: adore ow she's on the money events. I really love
- 9:20Speaker 5: connecting with such a big group of people, knowing that
- 9:23Speaker 5: the content that I'm sharing has an impact. And I
- 9:26Speaker 5: kind of know that if I said, Hey, Beck, so
- 9:28Speaker 5: we're going to do an event, you'd be like, have fun,
- 9:30Speaker 5: I'm not coming. And if I said, hey, Beck, do
- 9:33Speaker 5: you want to go on stage? Like there's six hundred
- 9:35Speaker 5: people at this event, Like, what would you say?
- 9:37Speaker 4: Look, it depends what we're talking about. I don't mind
- 9:40Speaker 4: a bit of I don't mind being the set of attention,
- 9:42Speaker 4: but in these kind of situations probably not. I'd probably
- 9:44Speaker 4: say I will sit in the crowd.
- 9:46Speaker 5: I'm just remembering back to when we won like the
- 9:49Speaker 5: Podcast of the Year award and I was like.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Come up back, and you just stood there frozen and
- 9:54Speaker 2: you were like.
- 9:54Speaker 5: No, I got so scared, which is so fine, but
- 9:59Speaker 5: like so different. And then third, I like just hanging
- 10:03Speaker 5: out on my own on the couch with my husband
- 10:06Speaker 5: sometimes if he's allowed. I always want my pets there.
- 10:09Speaker 5: Sometimes I even want my husband to bug off and
- 10:11Speaker 5: leave me alone so I can watch maths or like
- 10:14Speaker 5: the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City and not be interrupted.
- 10:17Speaker 5: And I enjoy that, but I prefer that time, sometimes
- 10:22Speaker 5: above and beyond going out and socializing with my friends. Yeah,
- 10:25Speaker 5: like I will literally say to them, sorry, I don't
- 10:28Speaker 5: have the social battery, like I don't want to come out,
- 10:32Speaker 5: and they respect it. That's fine, it's not a bad thing.
- 10:35Speaker 5: But I also know that's something you would never do.
- 10:37Speaker 5: Like if I said to you, hey, Beck, do you
- 10:39Speaker 5: want to go out? Do you want to sit home
- 10:41Speaker 5: on your own and watch a TV series? You'd be like,
- 10:43Speaker 5: why would I sit home on my own?
- 10:46Speaker 4: Exactly? You know me too well.
- 10:47Speaker 2: I've picked these strategically.
- 10:49Speaker 5: But now I want you to share three things that
- 10:51Speaker 5: you maybe thought about while I was talking about that
- 10:54Speaker 5: that you know you love and you highly value.
- 10:57Speaker 2: What do you reckon they are?
- 10:58Speaker 4: I did absorb all of that then just so happened
- 11:01Speaker 4: to think of my own three at the same time.
- 11:03Speaker 2: I promise, I was promised.
- 11:04Speaker 4: I was listening. Okay, So obviously, as you know, I
- 11:07Speaker 4: love rolling the grass.
- 11:09Speaker 2: I love being rolling in the grass. That's what you
- 11:11Speaker 2: got from.
- 11:12Speaker 4: It, Yeah, basically, And I know it's gonna sound very
- 11:14Speaker 4: different at six am, not six am ideally, but I
- 11:17Speaker 4: like rolling the grass, I like listening to I guess
- 11:20Speaker 4: it's like kind of like a meditation, being in the grass,
- 11:22Speaker 4: filling the grass, listening to the sounds around me, and
- 11:25Speaker 4: just being ever present. You know, I love being present.
- 11:28Speaker 4: I've got to do that several times a week. Otherwise
- 11:30Speaker 4: Where am I? Where's my head at?
- 11:32Speaker 2: You know?
- 11:32Speaker 4: I always want to be where I am. That's one
- 11:35Speaker 4: thing that I really value. The second one is I
- 11:38Speaker 4: know this might come as a surprise, but I do
- 11:40Speaker 4: like an early morning gym session.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Oh absolutely not. That sounds terrible to me.
- 11:44Speaker 4: I mean, obviously in the moment, I hate it.
- 11:47Speaker 2: What's an early morning gan session to you?
- 11:49Speaker 5: Though? So like six thirty, No, four am, it's like seven. Oh,
- 11:53Speaker 5: that's good, but that's still early morning to a lot
- 11:55Speaker 5: of people. Still early morning to a lot of people.
- 11:57Speaker 5: But I just feel like I need to get out
- 11:58Speaker 5: of the ways so I can then enjoy joy what
- 12:01Speaker 5: is to come. And we never know what that is,
- 12:03Speaker 5: and that's.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Which gives me such anxiety.
- 12:05Speaker 5: We're talking about this the other day and I can't
- 12:07Speaker 5: remember if it was on Mike or off Mike, but
- 12:09Speaker 5: basically Beck said, oh, no, I never know what I'm
- 12:13Speaker 5: doing after work, And I was like, sorry, what, Like,
- 12:16Speaker 5: you don't know what you're doing after work and you're like, nah,
- 12:18Speaker 5: like I'll just see what my friends text me what
- 12:21Speaker 5: they're up to. And I was like, oh no, Like
- 12:23Speaker 5: after work, I know, like my plan and I will
- 12:26Speaker 5: be going home and I will be cooking dinner because
- 12:28Speaker 5: I have an avocado that is going to go off
- 12:30Speaker 5: and if I don't use that that will give me anxiety.
- 12:32Speaker 2: And you're like, what, let the avo go off?
- 12:35Speaker 4: Yeah, let the avo be. She wants to go off.
- 12:37Speaker 4: Let it go off. But that is so true, and
- 12:42Speaker 4: this is where we differ. That is actually surprisingly going
- 12:45Speaker 4: to be my third one. So not making plans but
- 12:48Speaker 4: always just going with the flow and having something to
- 12:51Speaker 4: do is what brings me so much joy.
- 12:54Speaker 2: You know, I get it.
- 12:56Speaker 5: I feel like your phone is consistently going off with
- 12:59Speaker 5: like hey, Beck, what are you.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Up to you after work?
- 13:01Speaker 5: And you'd be like, oh, not much, and then you're
- 13:02Speaker 5: like at the pub straight after work with someone different
- 13:05Speaker 5: every night, or like catching up for a pizza, Like
- 13:08Speaker 5: you have the best social life.
- 13:09Speaker 2: When I sit back, I'm envious of it because I'm.
- 13:11Speaker 5: Like that's so wholesome, Like that's so nice, Like how
- 13:15Speaker 5: nice would it be to have this consistent group of
- 13:18Speaker 5: friends who just want your.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Attention, like, do you know what I mean?
- 13:21Speaker 5: I know what you mean, But then I know if
- 13:23Speaker 5: I put myself in your shoes, I'd be like, why
- 13:25Speaker 5: are you guys so obsessed with me?
- 13:27Speaker 2: Leave me alone? It's a work day.
- 13:29Speaker 4: On work days, we don't do socializing. I do want
- 13:31Speaker 4: you to know I don't have that many friends. It's
- 13:33Speaker 4: just the same few that they we're a going out
- 13:35Speaker 4: on their close friends. But you know, if a case
- 13:39Speaker 4: like I live, it's just me and live actually, but
- 13:42Speaker 4: you think like, oh, that kind of life looks fun.
- 13:44Speaker 4: But then if you were to live it, even for
- 13:46Speaker 4: a few days a few weeks, you'd be like, ah,
- 13:48Speaker 4: this actually is not bringing me any joy. And so
- 13:50Speaker 4: sometimes it is just we're kind of like gravitating toward
- 13:54Speaker 4: we actually love doing you know what I mean?
- 13:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I absolutely do.
- 13:58Speaker 5: And I feel like that's actually really cute list, which
- 14:01Speaker 5: is like completely juxtaposing my list, which is like go
- 14:04Speaker 5: on a walk in the morning with my dog and
- 14:06Speaker 5: you're like, get in the bin. I really like speaking
- 14:08Speaker 5: at events and you're like absolutely not. And then I'm like,
- 14:10Speaker 5: oh my gosh. I also really just love being by
- 14:13Speaker 5: myself and you're like ill, David, get out. I want
- 14:15Speaker 5: to ask, now, have you ever been scrolling through Instagram
- 14:18Speaker 5: and felt like a little bit jealous or a little
- 14:21Speaker 5: bit envs or even like a little bit insecure, like
- 14:23Speaker 5: you're not enough at that moment. When you see someone
- 14:27Speaker 5: that you follow showing off something, it could be like
- 14:29Speaker 5: a friend or more obviously like an influencer, So it
- 14:33Speaker 5: could be like them being on a trip or an
- 14:34Speaker 5: outfit or whatever.
- 14:35Speaker 2: It is, like, I feel like, is that a thing?
- 14:37Speaker 4: It pains me to say, but yes, absolutely, And I
- 14:40Speaker 4: think it's more so not so much influences going on
- 14:41Speaker 4: big trips, but it's like if I see friends going
- 14:45Speaker 4: out to big things like doing stuff, I'm like, I
- 14:48Speaker 4: want to be friends with you, and I feel sad
- 14:51Speaker 4: that we're not friends. How do I make this happen? Anyway?
- 14:53Speaker 5: You message them and you just go, hey, pal, want
- 14:55Speaker 5: to be friends because like you're real cool.
- 14:56Speaker 2: If you slid into my damns, I'd be like, Beg
- 14:58Speaker 2: wants to be my friend?
- 15:00Speaker 5: Yes, queen, I'll try that, all right, Well we can
- 15:02Speaker 5: be friends now, Okay? Winner sick, but I guess I
- 15:08Speaker 5: do this as well. I feel like TikTok's worse for
- 15:11Speaker 5: me because it's like video content. I feel like it's
- 15:13Speaker 5: more interactive. And also I'm really impulsive, but I see
- 15:17Speaker 5: people with things and I go, oh, I'd love that handbag,
- 15:19Speaker 5: or I'd love that top, or I'd do this or
- 15:21Speaker 5: do that. And I find myself either clicking their like
- 15:24Speaker 5: link in bios and finding out where it's from and
- 15:26Speaker 5: you know, putting it on a wish list, or even
- 15:28Speaker 5: worse like actually purchasing it immediately without putting twenty four
- 15:32Speaker 5: hours between me and my spending.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Or I just get this.
- 15:35Speaker 5: Idea in my head that that's something I need, yeah,
- 15:38Speaker 5: and it's like it's not. And I just look at
- 15:41Speaker 5: it and go, even this influencer, they probably don't even
- 15:44Speaker 5: care about that product. It could have just been sent
- 15:46Speaker 5: to them. And I find myself consistently comparing but also
- 15:51Speaker 5: just feeling really overwhelmed by it and going, well, why
- 15:55Speaker 5: do I want that?
- 15:56Speaker 1: Like?
- 15:56Speaker 5: And sometimes it'll be late, late at night and I've
- 15:57Speaker 5: made this little wish list, and then the next day
- 16:00Speaker 5: I'm at work and I'm like, oh, I better open
- 16:01Speaker 5: my notes app and you know, just drop something down
- 16:04Speaker 5: really quickly, and I see something and I go, why
- 16:05Speaker 5: is that in there, like why did I have in
- 16:07Speaker 5: my head in that moment that that was something I
- 16:09Speaker 5: absolutely needed? And I think, you know, obviously we are
- 16:13Speaker 5: really different, and what motivates us and excites us and
- 16:16Speaker 5: how we get our energy is going to be really different.
- 16:20Speaker 5: Let's say that you and I are both on the
- 16:21Speaker 5: journey to buying a new car, but our path to
- 16:24Speaker 5: that or what makes that look likely for us is
- 16:27Speaker 5: going to be really different. Like your values to begin
- 16:30Speaker 5: with about what car, and your savings patterns and your
- 16:32Speaker 5: plans and you know what you're going to use your
- 16:35Speaker 5: car for are going to be very very different to mine.
- 16:38Speaker 5: And I think that our obsession with social media makes
- 16:42Speaker 5: us feel this more acutely, like the danger of comparing
- 16:46Speaker 5: ourselves to others is that I guess comparisons are never fair.
- 16:49Speaker 2: You never see the full picture.
- 16:50Speaker 5: Right, Like the amount of times I have been sent
- 16:54Speaker 5: posts by my girlfriends being like, oh my god, this
- 16:56Speaker 5: bag is so cute that that influencer has and I
- 16:59Speaker 5: will reply and be like, yep, they probably got sent it,
- 17:02Speaker 5: or it was probably free, like there's no way that
- 17:05Speaker 5: they would pay five thousand dollars for that. They are
- 17:07Speaker 5: just promoting it, or oh this car is really cool.
- 17:10Speaker 5: I can't believe she achieved that. And I'm like, yep,
- 17:12Speaker 5: that's in brand new car with a big red bowl
- 17:15Speaker 5: on it and looks fantastic. But like, I'm pretty sure
- 17:18Speaker 5: that would be all financed, Like that's gonna be on debt.
- 17:21Speaker 5: There's no way that she's buying a sixty thousand dollar
- 17:24Speaker 5: car in cash. Like you know, you think back at
- 17:27Speaker 5: twelve months and I go, no, that doesn't make sense
- 17:30Speaker 5: for their financial situation. But we don't have that light
- 17:34Speaker 5: in those moments. You only see like the highlights reel.
- 17:36Speaker 5: I suppose, and while every single one of us is
- 17:40Speaker 5: unique and you know, things happen and it might not
- 17:42Speaker 5: be true. I think by comparing ourselves to the journey
- 17:45Speaker 5: of others, we're really negating our own road, and we're
- 17:49Speaker 5: demanding that the past be different to what it actually is.
- 17:52Speaker 5: Instead of honoring who we were and honoring past us
- 17:55Speaker 5: and you know, stepping up and being that human being
- 17:57Speaker 5: that passed us needs us to be, we're just putting
- 18:00Speaker 5: ourselves behind. And the demand we place on ourselves to
- 18:04Speaker 5: be like those people that we actually compare ourselves to
- 18:06Speaker 5: might actually be motivation for change, and that could be
- 18:09Speaker 5: a good thing, but like.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Why are you changing?
- 18:12Speaker 5: Is this actually leading to more feelings of like diminished
- 18:16Speaker 5: self worth when you're trying to be somebody else instead
- 18:19Speaker 5: of just who you were meant to be?
- 18:21Speaker 6: Yes?
- 18:21Speaker 2: So true? Like, oh it makes me very angry.
- 18:25Speaker 5: Yeah, that's fair, especially when I see people and they're
- 18:28Speaker 5: comparing themselves. It's less about me and more about like,
- 18:31Speaker 5: I hate that other people go through this because.
- 18:33Speaker 2: I know what that looks like.
- 18:35Speaker 5: Yeah, like I still do it, don't get me wrong,
- 18:37Speaker 5: but I feel like I might have stepped a little
- 18:38Speaker 5: bit beyond that. But then I can also really see
- 18:42Speaker 5: that happening to my friends, or that happening to other
- 18:44Speaker 5: people around me and or people in our community, and.
- 18:46Speaker 2: I go, stop it, Like, you're perfect the way that
- 18:49Speaker 2: you are.
- 18:49Speaker 4: Yes, We're all where we're meant to be right here.
- 18:54Speaker 4: Isn't that get my phone case?
- 18:56Speaker 2: What does it say?
- 18:57Speaker 4: You're exactly where you need to be. I love that.
- 18:59Speaker 5: Yeah, And I think it's really important to consistently remind
- 19:02Speaker 5: yourself of that, because you are exactly where you need
- 19:05Speaker 5: to be, whether it feels that way or not. Like
- 19:07Speaker 5: you know how many times you felt I'm not meant
- 19:10Speaker 5: to be here like this is the worst ever, and
- 19:12Speaker 5: then something around the corner happens and you go, that
- 19:14Speaker 5: makes sense as to why I was in that position
- 19:16Speaker 5: or that mental space or whatever it was, so I
- 19:18Speaker 5: could appreciate this totally.
- 19:20Speaker 4: I do also just want to say that this is
- 19:22Speaker 4: a very privileged way to think. Sometimes we are not
- 19:25Speaker 4: always in a really good or safe or healthy place,
- 19:29Speaker 4: and to say like we are where we need to be.
- 19:31Speaker 4: It doesn't necessarily fit every single mold, but however, still
- 19:36Speaker 4: I feel like the entire message of this episode is
- 19:39Speaker 4: still relevant to those people as well, but.
- 19:41Speaker 5: I think embracing it for change is important. If you're
- 19:44Speaker 5: in a really shitty position right now, Let's be honest,
- 19:47Speaker 5: I don't want you to be there, you know. If
- 19:49Speaker 5: we can reframe it and go all right, well, we
- 19:50Speaker 5: want to get you out of that. This is going
- 19:52Speaker 5: to be a pivotal point in your life that I
- 19:55Speaker 5: know at some point you're not going to say I
- 19:57Speaker 5: really wish that that never happened.
- 19:59Speaker 2: You're going to that was really shitty.
- 20:01Speaker 5: It was never a nice time, but it's made me
- 20:03Speaker 5: who I am today like and I think that we
- 20:05Speaker 5: were to pivot our mindset as well and go you
- 20:09Speaker 5: know what people say, there's so many awful things that
- 20:12Speaker 5: happen in the world, right, and like, I would never
- 20:14Speaker 5: say that blanket about everything, but I think if you
- 20:17Speaker 5: can even change your mindset, that is going to help
- 20:20Speaker 5: you get to a better place faster.
- 20:22Speaker 4: Completely agree. V. I remember last year we're talking about
- 20:25Speaker 4: keeping up with the Joneses, and we had some stats
- 20:27Speaker 4: on what privilege looks like on a global stage.
- 20:30Speaker 2: So this is good. I know where you're going with this.
- 20:33Speaker 5: Yes, you you're just gonna You're just gonna like.
- 20:36Speaker 4: Humble us go.
- 20:38Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 20:38Speaker 4: I mean, basically, we found that if you have a
- 20:41Speaker 4: roof of your head, three meals a day, access to
- 20:44Speaker 4: running water, and you make more than forty thousand dollars
- 20:48Speaker 4: a year, you are in the top one percent of
- 20:50Speaker 4: the world in terms of the median annual household income.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Isn't that insane?
- 20:56Speaker 5: It is?
- 20:56Speaker 2: And so many times we're like, ah, I'm broke, I'm this,
- 20:59Speaker 2: I'm that. No, you're not.
- 21:01Speaker 5: I hate when people use those terms of reference when
- 21:04Speaker 5: they're not. If you're actually broke, you can talk about it.
- 21:07Speaker 5: I want to hear it. I want to help you.
- 21:08Speaker 5: I want to be on that journey. I do not
- 21:10Speaker 5: want to hear people saying I'm broke, knowing full well
- 21:13Speaker 5: they have ten thousand dollars in their savings account for
- 21:15Speaker 5: an emergency fund. Like that just makes me so frustrated
- 21:19Speaker 5: because it takes away from the gravity of that situation. Like,
- 21:22Speaker 5: if you are broke, that's really friggin' hart Like Beck,
- 21:26Speaker 5: you've been there, it's overwhelming. It must be frustrating when
- 21:30Speaker 5: other people come along and go, yeah, me too, and
- 21:32Speaker 5: you're like, hmmm.
- 21:32Speaker 2: It's a bit.
- 21:33Speaker 4: Different though in it, Like it is a bit funny
- 21:35Speaker 4: when I'm like, oh, I've got literally seven dollars to
- 21:37Speaker 4: payday and people are like, oh, same, I don't want
- 21:40Speaker 4: to dip into my savings. I'm like, ah see, see
- 21:43Speaker 4: that's where we differ my friends exactly. I want to
- 21:47Speaker 4: exactly what does that mean?
- 21:49Speaker 5: Yeah, So we found during that research that the world
- 21:52Speaker 5: median household income was nine thousand, seven hundred and thirty
- 21:57Speaker 5: three dollars.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Wow.
- 21:59Speaker 5: Okay, okay, that's I mean good and bad. But it
- 22:02Speaker 5: just puts in context as well that when we're talking
- 22:05Speaker 5: about this, Oh my god, did you see on social
- 22:06Speaker 5: media such and such got a handbag or I've been
- 22:09Speaker 5: thinking about a new car and you know, ha ha,
- 22:11Speaker 5: I'm broke. I have seven dollars in my account, but like,
- 22:13Speaker 5: I just really don't want to dip into my savings.
- 22:15Speaker 5: Like that is so privileged. And it's okay, I'm not
- 22:18Speaker 5: calling you out. Keep doing it, It's fine. But I
- 22:20Speaker 5: think we also need to step back and go, how
- 22:23Speaker 5: flipping lucky are we to live in a country where
- 22:26Speaker 5: you know, at the end of the day, Beck, if
- 22:27Speaker 5: you broke your leg, we could fix it for free.
- 22:29Speaker 2: That's not going to financially impact you.
- 22:31Speaker 5: Like you are in a world that supports you, and
- 22:34Speaker 5: that's not a privilege that is extended to the entire
- 22:37Speaker 5: population of this world.
- 22:38Speaker 2: I think we're really.
- 22:39Speaker 4: Lucky, totally grievy. We were like discussing before how different
- 22:43Speaker 4: we kind of all are. Would be fair to say too,
- 22:45Speaker 4: that we'd all have different levels of comfort when it
- 22:47Speaker 4: comes to like being in debt and one.
- 22:50Speaker 5: Hundred percent, And I think it really plays into your
- 22:52Speaker 5: education levels as well.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Right, Like you've been in debt.
- 22:56Speaker 5: I have been in debt, and at the time that
- 22:58Speaker 5: I got in debt, I hadn't no idea what that
- 23:00Speaker 5: really meant. I feel like I had some blinkers on,
- 23:03Speaker 5: and I was kind of like, well, this will be fine.
- 23:05Speaker 5: I was paid off, right, I'm sure that when you
- 23:06Speaker 5: were doing it you were like, is this fine? Like
- 23:08Speaker 5: I'll work it out later, right, Like, you just don't
- 23:10Speaker 5: go into it going this could impact my entire life,
- 23:13Speaker 5: because if I had sat you down and said at
- 23:15Speaker 5: the time, heyback, so the decisions that you're making, they're
- 23:18Speaker 5: really gonna if you up, yeah, it's going to put
- 23:21Speaker 5: you in a really shitty position.
- 23:23Speaker 2: I don't think you would have consented.
- 23:25Speaker 5: I think you would have been like, hold up, hold up,
- 23:26Speaker 5: hold up, No, I don't want whatever you're talking about.
- 23:29Speaker 2: You thank you, like, and I mean, sometimes it's.
- 23:32Speaker 5: Completely unavoidable, right, Like, I know you've shared a lot
- 23:35Speaker 5: of your debt journey on here, and it's not as
- 23:38Speaker 5: though you were just frivolous and went and spent a
- 23:41Speaker 5: whole heap of money on designer shit that you didn't need.
- 23:43Speaker 5: That wasn't your story, like yours was out of genuine need.
- 23:47Speaker 5: But even out of genuine need, you didn't have the
- 23:50Speaker 5: level of financial literacy to go, well, actually, how could
- 23:53Speaker 5: I structure this? Maybe I could X, Y and Z,
- 23:55Speaker 5: Like you just didn't have that, So I think you
- 23:58Speaker 5: never really know what's going on for so you cannot
- 24:01Speaker 5: judge their situation.
- 24:02Speaker 2: And when we say, oh, what's your risk to taking
- 24:04Speaker 2: on debt?
- 24:06Speaker 5: Like I am at current in more debt than I
- 24:10Speaker 5: have ever been in my entire life, beck, and I
- 24:13Speaker 5: am so grateful. I am because it is good debt,
- 24:17Speaker 5: Like it's for mortgages for the properties that I own,
- 24:20Speaker 5: and I am so grateful for that. But that is
- 24:22Speaker 5: a very different, very educated decision. And I remember getting
- 24:26Speaker 5: those mortgages and being so scared of getting them because
- 24:31Speaker 5: it was so much to undertake. But on the flip side,
- 24:34Speaker 5: I was not fearful at all when I took on
- 24:36Speaker 5: forty plus thousand dollars worth of personal debt, which was
- 24:39Speaker 5: actually even more detrimental to my financial wellbeing. So like
- 24:42Speaker 5: I just didn't know what I didn't know, and you
- 24:44Speaker 5: wouldn't either, Yes, And I guess you've got no idea
- 24:47Speaker 5: what somebody else's financial situation or financial literacy levels are.
- 24:51Speaker 5: Maybe they're in epic amounts of debt, but that's like
- 24:55Speaker 5: really normal to them, and they actually grew up in
- 24:56Speaker 5: a debt cycle, so they actually fear really comfy with
- 24:59Speaker 5: that I'm just happy with what's going on. Does that
- 25:02Speaker 5: mean that's going to be okay for you? Well, maybe
- 25:05Speaker 5: it is, but likely it's not. And I think that
- 25:07Speaker 5: that's where you need to go. Well, your journey is
- 25:09Speaker 5: not my jooney, and that's actually a really beautiful thing.
- 25:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I completely agree. This kind of reminds me. Do
- 25:14Speaker 4: you remember that old saying money doesn't buy happiness?
- 25:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I want to put that in the bin. I mean, yes,
- 25:19Speaker 5: I completely agree. But you know what money does do.
- 25:23Speaker 5: It brings some level of financial security, and you know what,
- 25:26Speaker 5: it also can take it away. So I guess being
- 25:29Speaker 5: in debt because you've bought too much stuff or made
- 25:31Speaker 5: a decision that compromises yourself is not great. But I
- 25:34Speaker 5: think that we need to remember that the saying money
- 25:37Speaker 5: doesn't buy happiness. I've never heard someone who's broker in
- 25:41Speaker 5: debt say.
- 25:41Speaker 4: That one hundred pece like I've.
- 25:43Speaker 5: Literally never heard it come out of the mouth of
- 25:45Speaker 5: somebody who's financially struggling.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Yes, Ve, don't worry. Money doesn't buy happiness. Can buy dinner,
- 25:52Speaker 2: do you what?
- 25:52Speaker 5: It can buy electricity, It can pay your water bill,
- 25:56Speaker 5: It can do so much. And do you know what
- 25:57Speaker 5: that does It takes stress off and people who are
- 25:59Speaker 5: less rest are happier.
- 26:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:01Speaker 5: So, like I agree the old saying money doesn't buy
- 26:04Speaker 5: happiness because it's not about the fancy things, it's about
- 26:06Speaker 5: basic needs. There's a level I reckon where we need
- 26:10Speaker 5: to all earn X and I mean this is scientifically proven.
- 26:13Speaker 5: It's a household income of about eighty five thousand dollars total.
- 26:17Speaker 5: And if you meet that more money doesn't contribute to
- 26:19Speaker 5: higher levels of happiness. That makes sense if you are
- 26:22Speaker 5: broke or in debt or financially struggling, I'd be pretty
- 26:26Speaker 5: happy to find fifty bucks on the ground.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Yeap, I completely agree. At the very least, it will
- 26:29Speaker 4: take away your anxiety, leaving space for happiness exactly. But V,
- 26:34Speaker 4: I think this is a really good time to go
- 26:35Speaker 4: to a really quick break. And on the flip side,
- 26:37Speaker 4: we're gonna give you some tips to help combat comparison culture.
- 26:41Speaker 2: I love this. Don't go anywhere.
- 26:46Speaker 4: Okay, we are back and V, what can we do
- 26:48Speaker 4: if comparison culture is breaking us and sending us broke?
- 26:51Speaker 2: There's heaps you can do. And I bet right now
- 26:54Speaker 2: you're thinking, no, there's not the but there is I've
- 26:56Speaker 2: made a whole list.
- 26:57Speaker 5: We know how much I love a list, Believe it
- 26:59Speaker 5: when I see it. All right, Well, take my little
- 27:02Speaker 5: notes off me and I can have.
- 27:04Speaker 2: You read it out, all right.
- 27:05Speaker 5: So, first thing I've written down is we really need
- 27:07Speaker 5: to remind ourselves that our self worth is not based
- 27:10Speaker 5: on our behaviors or what we have or don't have.
- 27:13Speaker 5: Though it's quite all right to admire you know, your
- 27:16Speaker 5: colleagues wardrobe or like Beck's brand isshoes, or a friend's job,
- 27:20Speaker 5: our admiration should stop there, like, oh wow, they're nice, Beck, congrats,
- 27:24Speaker 5: you must love them full stop.
- 27:26Speaker 2: End of story.
- 27:27Speaker 5: Once we cross into comparing our own wardrobe or our
- 27:30Speaker 5: job to their job, we kind of enter a really
- 27:33Speaker 5: dangerous zone that might actually result in us feeling like
- 27:36Speaker 5: trash about ourselves.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Yeah, like Beck has such nice shoes. Oh my shoes
- 27:40Speaker 2: are not so good.
- 27:41Speaker 5: I'm distilling it down really simply, And you might go
- 27:44Speaker 5: via that such a stereotypical example, but I know you
- 27:47Speaker 5: know what I mean, Like it could be anything I've
- 27:51Speaker 5: then written down. We need to use those feelings of insecurity, anxiety,
- 27:55Speaker 5: or jealousy to send it into ourselves and see what
- 27:59Speaker 5: it is actually want, Like, why Beck, are you feeling
- 28:03Speaker 5: like that? Often those feelings are there as triggers that
- 28:07Speaker 5: make us want to change something in ourselves deeply. It
- 28:10Speaker 5: might be you're actually not very happy with your job
- 28:13Speaker 5: and you need to look for a new job.
- 28:15Speaker 2: It's not Beck's job that you want.
- 28:16Speaker 5: In fact, like you probably won't even like it, Like
- 28:18Speaker 5: you have such different values, Like if I am unhappy
- 28:22Speaker 5: in my job, I might look at you Beck and
- 28:24Speaker 5: go for ou do she loves her job, maybe I
- 28:25Speaker 5: should do what Beck does, Like she just looks so happy.
- 28:28Speaker 5: What you need to do is spend a little bit
- 28:30Speaker 5: more time with yourself and work out what that is. Like,
- 28:33Speaker 5: whatever it is, have a think about it. Because I
- 28:36Speaker 5: promise you spending money to get into the same position
- 28:39Speaker 5: as somebody else because you see their happiness, it's not going.
- 28:42Speaker 2: To change anything.
- 28:44Speaker 5: Sadly, next you're not going to be surprised with number
- 28:47Speaker 5: three I've written down, celebrate your achievements. I think it's
- 28:51Speaker 5: really important Beck to take time to appreciate your milestones,
- 28:54Speaker 5: like not through social media, not through like posting a
- 28:58Speaker 5: cute post or spending money, but like in a meanful
- 29:00Speaker 5: way in doing something that nourishes you and you go, wow,
- 29:03Speaker 5: I'm really proud of that. It could be as silly
- 29:07Speaker 5: as writing yourself a letter like write past you a
- 29:09Speaker 5: letter of how proud you are of how far you've gotten.
- 29:12Speaker 5: I promise when you sit down you feel like a
- 29:14Speaker 5: bit of a nufty doing it, you'll be like, this
- 29:16Speaker 5: is so lame. At the end of it, you'll be like,
- 29:18Speaker 5: I'm so proud of me. Like you don't even have
- 29:21Speaker 5: to show anyone. You could rip it up or burn it.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Like hide it.
- 29:24Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a really sweet idea.
- 29:25Speaker 5: The next is practice mindfulness. I think this is really important.
- 29:29Speaker 5: You are really good at this, so maybe you've got
- 29:31Speaker 5: some hot tips and tricks at some point for us
- 29:34Speaker 5: on how to.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Be more mindful.
- 29:35Speaker 5: I mean your version of mindfulness is literally rolling around
- 29:39Speaker 5: in grass listening to meditations. But like, I will take
- 29:41Speaker 5: your tips because you're hella happy, and then I've written
- 29:44Speaker 5: down implement healthier behaviors and boundaries around social media. I
- 29:48Speaker 5: genuinely believe that you should be unfollowing and muting things
- 29:52Speaker 5: that make you feel bad or that you see and
- 29:53Speaker 5: you just get a pang of anxiety or guilt. Yeah, hmm,
- 29:56Speaker 5: this is probably not something I want to say publicly,
- 29:59Speaker 5: but I'm gonna do it anyway.
- 30:00Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I'm scared.
- 30:01Speaker 5: I have heaps of people that I follow that I
- 30:03Speaker 5: have muted. Yeah, I don't want to unfollow you. I'm
- 30:05Speaker 5: not rude, like I like you as a human being.
- 30:08Speaker 5: Don't want to see stuff. Yeah, it just doesn't help
- 30:10Speaker 5: me live my best life. I always feel not amazing
- 30:13Speaker 5: about seeing it, or it annoys me or something. Sure,
- 30:16Speaker 5: the mute functionality is great. Don't have to tell you
- 30:18Speaker 5: I unfollowed you. No one knows.
- 30:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I love that.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Now people that I follow are going to be like,
- 30:22Speaker 2: is that me? Probably?
- 30:25Speaker 5: But people are monetizing your attention, Beck, that is worth something,
- 30:29Speaker 5: whether it's on social media or if it's on TV.
- 30:32Speaker 5: So I think that we really need to make sure
- 30:34Speaker 5: that they're working hard for your money and making you
- 30:37Speaker 5: feel good, inspired and super motivated. And then I guess
- 30:41Speaker 5: the last thing I do want to add in there, Beck,
- 30:43Speaker 5: We touched on it before is privilege. Obviously, but if
- 30:46Speaker 5: you're in financial trouble, speak to someone like, raise your
- 30:50Speaker 5: hand like it is not embarrassing.
- 30:52Speaker 2: You are not behind.
- 30:54Speaker 5: Your financial position does not dictate whether you are a
- 30:58Speaker 5: good or a bad human being.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Some of my.
- 31:01Speaker 5: Favorite people in this entire world are broke as hell,
- 31:06Speaker 5: and some of the people that I have met through
- 31:08Speaker 5: my journey as an ex financial advisor to ultra wealthy
- 31:12Speaker 5: people give me the biggest stick in the entire world.
- 31:15Speaker 5: Your personality and who you are as a human being
- 31:19Speaker 5: is not made up by money, is not made up
- 31:20Speaker 5: by how wealthy you are, how much money you've got
- 31:23Speaker 5: in the bank, or how good you are with it.
- 31:25Speaker 2: It's actually who you are as a human being.
- 31:27Speaker 5: And I think so often we tie our self worth
- 31:30Speaker 5: to our net worth, yes, and that makes no sense.
- 31:33Speaker 5: Like have you ever looked at someone and be like,
- 31:36Speaker 5: they earn fifty thousand dollars.
- 31:39Speaker 4: They look like they've got fifteen k in the bank.
- 31:42Speaker 4: I want to be their friends? Yeah, no one does that.
- 31:44Speaker 5: Right, Like, I want to be friends with you because
- 31:46Speaker 5: you're cool, and you're kind, and you're nice, you're kind
- 31:48Speaker 5: of funny.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Like totally, that's what I want to surround myself with.
- 31:52Speaker 5: And I think that if you're in financial trouble, it
- 31:55Speaker 5: is so easy to bury your head in the sands
- 31:57Speaker 5: because you feel like it's a reflection of you, and
- 32:00Speaker 5: it's not. It's just a situation you've found yourself in, Like,
- 32:03Speaker 5: you're not debt, you're just someone experiencing it and you
- 32:06Speaker 5: can get out of it. That's cool, Like, let's work
- 32:10Speaker 5: on that. So speak to your banks, consolidate your debts.
- 32:13Speaker 5: Call the National Debt Helpline, who we talk about all
- 32:15Speaker 5: the time and we adore. But I think it's just
- 32:18Speaker 5: it's so important to remember that is not a reflection
- 32:21Speaker 5: of who you are, and Beck, this has been you before.
- 32:24Speaker 5: Would you recommend reaching out for help?
- 32:27Speaker 4: Yeah, definitely, And it's like a good thing to remember
- 32:30Speaker 4: that the person you're speaking to, the people that you're
- 32:32Speaker 4: reaching out to, have probably seen this before, if not
- 32:36Speaker 4: worse situations. It's just whatever, isn't it. It's just money.
- 32:41Speaker 4: At the end of the day. It's so easy to
- 32:43Speaker 4: get into debt, so easy to get out of debt.
- 32:45Speaker 4: It's not so easy to get out of debt. But
- 32:47Speaker 4: it's easy to start making a change exactly.
- 32:50Speaker 5: And I think that you raise a really good point.
- 32:52Speaker 5: I think sometimes when we're like, oh my god, I
- 32:54Speaker 5: have to call the National Debt Helpline. No, I'm not
- 32:56Speaker 5: picking up the phone like most of those people work
- 32:59Speaker 5: at the National Debt Hopeline because they've been impacted by
- 33:01Speaker 5: that before, so they get it properly. You're not calling
- 33:04Speaker 5: a CEO of the bank and being like, Hi, you're
- 33:06Speaker 5: a millionaire, and like I just don't understand. You're calling
- 33:10Speaker 5: someone who's wildly passionate about getting people out of debt.
- 33:13Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, let them do away, let them help you.
- 33:15Speaker 4: But any last points to end the show.
- 33:18Speaker 5: I guess something else and is the stereotypical victoria divine quota.
- 33:22Speaker 2: It's just babes.
- 33:23Speaker 5: You do you like, there is nobody quite like you,
- 33:26Speaker 5: with your background and your experience and your hopes and
- 33:28Speaker 5: your dreams. Just have a think back about our Monday episodes,
- 33:31Speaker 5: Like everyone is so different and that's what.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Makes it so beautiful.
- 33:36Speaker 5: Like if we're all cookie cutter in the same like
- 33:38Speaker 5: I'm not going to learn from your experience, Like our
- 33:41Speaker 5: Money direst section of the podcast.
- 33:43Speaker 2: I'm sorry today's episode.
- 33:44Speaker 5: That's my favorite because you get to know people on
- 33:48Speaker 5: this deep level and they share their experiences so that
- 33:52Speaker 5: we can be richer for it physically and like mentally.
- 33:57Speaker 5: But I think really understanding that your journey is uniquely yours.
- 34:01Speaker 2: And it doesn't matter what the heck anybody else is doing.
- 34:03Speaker 2: Completely agree. There's something really sexy about somebody who just
- 34:07Speaker 2: knows who they are.
- 34:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:09Speaker 2: If they're like I don't need that, you go, wow,
- 34:10Speaker 2: I wish I had that conviction.
- 34:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I completely agree. I aspire to be like that.
- 34:14Speaker 4: That's the only comparison I'll be doing today. But I
- 34:16Speaker 4: think this is a really good place to leave it
- 34:18Speaker 4: for now. Let's go have a little tea.
- 34:20Speaker 2: I love a little tea.
- 34:21Speaker 5: Sit in the grass, Sit in the grass. Teach me
- 34:23Speaker 5: how to meditate, Yes, if I can do that, but
- 34:26Speaker 5: like I'm willing to try.
- 34:27Speaker 4: Everyone can have a good week.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Guys. We will see you on Friday.
- 34:32Speaker 4: Bye, guys.
