- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, my name's Santasha Nabananga Bamblet. I'm a proud or
- 0:04Speaker 1: the Order Kerni Whaltbury and a waddery woman. And before
- 0:08Speaker 1: we get started on She's on the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money. The po
- 1:00Speaker 4: gus that makes personal finance fun, especially on Fridays. It
- 1:04Speaker 4: is my personal and our favorite day of the week
- 1:07Speaker 4: because we get to get our team together and celebrate
- 1:09Speaker 4: you our incredible She's on the Money community, Miss Jess Gricci,
- 1:13Speaker 4: She's here sharing our favorite money wins from the group.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Beck is going to be here sharing her broke tips
- 1:18Speaker 4: and we'll be helping to answer a money dilemma.
- 1:21Speaker 2: What do you do when you have to sell.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Your house because of a divorce and then something that
- 1:26Speaker 4: you slid into our dms about are you being dodgy
- 1:29Speaker 4: when you don't tell a shop that you know they're
- 1:31Speaker 4: undercharging you?
- 1:34Speaker 2: That's interesting. I feel like it is really interesting.
- 1:37Speaker 4: But before we get there, guys, how have your weeks
- 1:40Speaker 4: been that Ma's been good.
- 1:42Speaker 5: It's been a little crisp in the air, if you will,
- 1:47Speaker 5: But I don't like it. Oh, I do you miss
- 1:48Speaker 5: summer already?
- 1:49Speaker 2: I feel like this is going to.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Sound so dumb as someone with a wardrobe full of
- 1:54Speaker 4: clothes you don't.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Have any winter outfits.
- 1:56Speaker 5: I feel exactly the same, and it happens to be every.
- 1:58Speaker 4: Day and keeps that every recording I have had over
- 2:03Speaker 4: the last few weeks for the podcast, I have worn
- 2:06Speaker 4: these pair of jeans because like, I get overwhelmed looking
- 2:09Speaker 4: in my wardrobe being like what do I wear? Like
- 2:11Speaker 4: it's not going to be super warm, but like I
- 2:13Speaker 4: also don't want to be cold, ye, but I want
- 2:15Speaker 4: to look good. Yeah anyway, Like that's the biggest first
- 2:18Speaker 4: world dilemma. So maybe you and I can sit down
- 2:20Speaker 4: and make like a Pinterest vision board of like our
- 2:22Speaker 4: winter wardrobes, because I just want to be able to
- 2:26Speaker 4: walk into my wardrobe and have a few ideas of
- 2:29Speaker 4: the outfits I have, but I don't want.
- 2:30Speaker 2: To buy anything new.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Yeah, Like I know I have cute stuff and I
- 2:34Speaker 4: just have cute stuff. Yeah, but so do you, and
- 2:37Speaker 4: I know you do, so like we need to just
- 2:40Speaker 4: like I don't know, match outfits for each other or something,
- 2:43Speaker 4: because like I'm not buying more winter clothes. No, I'm
- 2:46Speaker 4: thirty three. Like they take up so much. I have
- 2:48Speaker 4: a wardrobe.
- 2:49Speaker 2: You go on a whale starts and then everything's happening. Yeah,
- 2:52Speaker 2: but in summer, I don't need a coat.
- 2:55Speaker 6: Well that's when it's cheapest, and then you'll be thinking
- 2:59Speaker 6: about that.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Yes, but at that point, I don't need a coat.
- 3:03Speaker 2: I already have coats.
- 3:04Speaker 4: Yes, that is cheap, but I'm being impulsive, and then
- 3:06Speaker 4: come winter, I'm like I.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Wish I was more impulsive.
- 3:09Speaker 4: Yeah, it's I haven't managed to crack the cycle anyway,
- 3:14Speaker 4: beck House, you're weak being because I've gotten off track completely.
- 3:17Speaker 6: We've been really good. I'm a little bit sick, so
- 3:19Speaker 6: I apologize in advance. Fie you get away from us.
- 3:22Speaker 6: I know I'm lucky.
- 3:23Speaker 2: These studio is so big.
- 3:24Speaker 6: Yeah, I feel like we're at a safe distance right now.
- 3:27Speaker 6: But you know what, you know, you have that thing
- 3:29Speaker 6: like the back of your throat is itchy, but also
- 3:32Speaker 6: the nose holes and so you can't like you kind
- 3:35Speaker 6: of like you can't scratch. Yeah, exactly, do that thing
- 3:38Speaker 6: with your tongue and then you anyway.
- 3:39Speaker 2: You need to have some honey, like coat your throat
- 3:42Speaker 2: in some honey.
- 3:43Speaker 6: Yeah, honey, I feel like I want to get a
- 3:44Speaker 6: comb and just like car in the back.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I totally get that.
- 3:49Speaker 4: But this is the time when everybody who you know,
- 3:52Speaker 4: when you like get really sick and you're like, I
- 3:54Speaker 4: did not appreciate being able to breathe, yeah, some kind
- 3:58Speaker 4: of something instantly.
- 4:02Speaker 2: This is the time, Jess, breathe in. Yeah, take advantage
- 4:06Speaker 2: you got, but we value that. Yeah, I feel good.
- 4:10Speaker 5: Everyone who's listening right now, take a second.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Breathe in, ye, breathe in.
- 4:14Speaker 4: I'm so great appreciate the times that you can breathe
- 4:17Speaker 4: clearly use winter is coming, it's.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Not going to stick around.
- 4:21Speaker 6: I'm so grateful for those moments when I'm when I'm sick,
- 4:23Speaker 6: but I so take to take advantage when you really,
- 4:26Speaker 6: you know, when you have like a tongue alcer and
- 4:27Speaker 6: you're like, I can't remember what it's like to eat
- 4:31Speaker 6: without being in excruciating when I get ulcers.
- 4:35Speaker 4: So when I get very stressed, I get ulcers. Jess
- 4:38Speaker 4: has seen them before. They are hectic. Like one time
- 4:41Speaker 4: I was like, Jess, I've got this really bad also,
- 4:43Speaker 4: and she's like, yeah, yeah, whatever whatever, and I was like,
- 4:45Speaker 4: do you want to see it? And she's like yeah,
- 4:46Speaker 4: And I pull down my bottom lip and it's the
- 4:48Speaker 4: entirety all my black around my teeth, like along the
- 4:53Speaker 4: bottom of my like it was heavy, like five centimeters long.
- 4:56Speaker 2: And she's like, oh shit, put that away. That is
- 4:58Speaker 2: like mostly ulsa, you know, I mean disgusting.
- 5:01Speaker 4: Like it got to the point where I'm like not talking,
- 5:04Speaker 4: like I'm like trying to talk with my mouth not move.
- 5:06Speaker 2: It was painful.
- 5:07Speaker 4: So I've just decided maybe I should lower the stress
- 5:09Speaker 4: levels in my life.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Yeah, fair, fair, fair.
- 5:12Speaker 4: It hasn't happened in a very long time though. So
- 5:15Speaker 4: do you know what my favorite magnem is at the moment.
- 5:17Speaker 4: It's no, no, it's the white chocolate one.
- 5:21Speaker 2: It is.
- 5:22Speaker 4: It's like a white chocolate magdem with the passion fruit
- 5:26Speaker 4: and then biscuit in the crumb, getting worse though. That's nice,
- 5:30Speaker 4: it's getting worse. That is the best ice cream. But
- 5:34Speaker 4: I do find that there is a divide. There are
- 5:35Speaker 4: people who believe fruit in ice cream is acceptable, and
- 5:38Speaker 4: there are people who think the fruit in ice cream
- 5:40Speaker 4: is the devil. And I feel like you were like
- 5:42Speaker 4: fruit ice cream.
- 5:43Speaker 2: No, it should be chocolate. Absolutely, no, exactly legal.
- 5:46Speaker 6: You're eating dessert. Because you're eating dessert, you're.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Trying to get healthy.
- 5:51Speaker 4: See, I'm going to say something controversial, and I do
- 5:53Speaker 4: not believe in mixing nuts with chocolate.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Oh, I completely for a teller. Oh no, that's okay,
- 6:01Speaker 2: that's different.
- 6:01Speaker 4: But like pieces of nuts and fruit in chocolate should
- 6:05Speaker 4: be illegal, like the fruit, fruits and the fruit and
- 6:07Speaker 4: nut block illegal.
- 6:09Speaker 5: Like what like a hazel share.
- 6:13Speaker 2: That's a different, that's an experience. That's an experience. A lot.
- 6:21Speaker 2: There's a lot of food nuts in chocolate in general. Everything, Well,
- 6:27Speaker 2: that's you know what. I'm just going to stick to money.
- 6:31Speaker 2: I'm not a food blogger. You can leave that.
- 6:33Speaker 4: He can be like the food content creator and he
- 6:37Speaker 4: can make all of the root Yeah, he can make
- 6:38Speaker 4: all of the rules. He actually made me dinner last night,
- 6:41Speaker 4: which was yeah.
- 6:42Speaker 2: So slay. He made the most delicious chili honey butter.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Chili honey butter, just like a whipped butter with honey
- 6:49Speaker 2: and chill, like a chili creast. He said through it. Wow,
- 6:54Speaker 2: lovely gives.
- 6:55Speaker 4: And he was like, Oh, you don't have to eat
- 6:57Speaker 4: the bread and butter if you don't want Sorry.
- 7:00Speaker 2: It's the best bit. I beg your part exactly? Did
- 7:03Speaker 2: you want nothing? Yes? Seriously? Anyway, moving on, V.
- 7:07Speaker 4: How's your week? Oh, my week's been good. I had
- 7:09Speaker 4: dinner at a friend's.
- 7:10Speaker 2: House last night. They looked for me.
- 7:12Speaker 4: I've been up very late, like I didn't get home
- 7:15Speaker 4: until like nearly midnight, which, if you know me, that's
- 7:19Speaker 4: not okay.
- 7:19Speaker 2: See, and I'm very tired today. I don't regret it,
- 7:22Speaker 2: but I am very tired.
- 7:23Speaker 4: In fact, I ordered a large coffee, which, again, if
- 7:26Speaker 4: you know me, I never do because I believe in
- 7:28Speaker 4: like get a small coffee at the start of the day,
- 7:31Speaker 4: which means I can have another one later in the day.
- 7:34Speaker 4: And if I get a large at the start of
- 7:35Speaker 4: the day, I've capped out my caffeine.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Oh yeah, okay.
- 7:38Speaker 4: And it's not because there's rules on caffeine. It's because
- 7:41Speaker 4: I'll be a jittery mess. Yeah, it's going to work
- 7:44Speaker 4: for me. But today I'm going to be a jity mess.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Yeah. They love laugh absolutely.
- 7:51Speaker 4: Anyway, week's been good. I'm still on a high from
- 7:54Speaker 4: going to Canberra. Guys, the budget is so hot, Like, oh,
- 7:58Speaker 4: that was the coolest thing I interviewed the Minister for
- 8:01Speaker 4: Finance and women say less like I'm still just I'm
- 8:06Speaker 4: just excited about the fact that I did that.
- 8:08Speaker 2: That's really cool.
- 8:08Speaker 4: Anyway, still keep talking about it. The media is still
- 8:11Speaker 4: talking about.
- 8:12Speaker 2: How influencers were invited to Parliament House and they don't
- 8:15Speaker 2: believe in that, and it made me angry.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Made me so angry, especially like Millie Millie Rose Millie
- 8:22Speaker 4: Rose fannas she ripped a new one on TV.
- 8:25Speaker 2: I could not believe what the project did to her.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Like Millie is an incredible human being who has created
- 8:32Speaker 4: a charity from scratch, Like I'm going to put the
- 8:35Speaker 4: links to her charity and thew it's called All Kinds,
- 8:38Speaker 4: And she is honestly one of the coolest people ever.
- 8:42Speaker 4: She's created this charity, she's having a really big impact.
- 8:45Speaker 4: She does really beautiful content online and is not someone
- 8:49Speaker 4: that you would say oh, influencer, right. No, she has
- 8:53Speaker 4: a ambassadorship through Lulu Lemon, which honestly sligh from Lulu
- 8:58Speaker 4: Lemon to pick up someone who is genuine only impactful
- 9:01Speaker 4: in this space and go, you know what, We're gonna
- 9:03Speaker 4: work with you directly because impact totally. And they essentially
- 9:08Speaker 4: distilled her down to just being a Lulu Lemon Ambasssetta.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I did not mention anything about her charity, did not.
- 9:14Speaker 4: Mention anything about why she might have been there to
- 9:18Speaker 4: understand how change is being facilitated at Parliament House.
- 9:23Speaker 2: I was actually so mad for them.
- 9:26Speaker 4: We had, i would say, second teer news outlets reaching
- 9:29Speaker 4: out to people like me for comment being like, what
- 9:31Speaker 4: do you think about influencers being at Parliament House?
- 9:35Speaker 2: Guys?
- 9:35Speaker 4: Just because I was there for Tuesday. I was actually
- 9:37Speaker 4: there for the Wednesday. Obviously, I didn't make any type
- 9:40Speaker 4: of comment because I'm like, I'm not perpetuating this.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Yeah, be so real. I left them on red.
- 9:44Speaker 4: But I'm actually so angry because at the end of
- 9:48Speaker 4: the day, these quote influencers, if you look at every
- 9:51Speaker 4: single one of them, they are either a finance content
- 9:54Speaker 4: creator or a social media content creator that is tapping
- 9:58Speaker 4: into a market of people, usually women, who aren't understanding politics.
- 10:03Speaker 4: What a better way to get more people talking about
- 10:06Speaker 4: politics than getting the people that you already are engaging
- 10:10Speaker 4: with talking about it.
- 10:11Speaker 2: And it's just a point.
- 10:12Speaker 5: It's this divide and I know we're biased, but like
- 10:15Speaker 5: old media and new media, or traditional media and new media,
- 10:18Speaker 5: the way that new media is looked down upon when
- 10:20Speaker 5: you have outlets like The Daily Os and as you
- 10:23Speaker 5: were saying Millie Charity that they are engaging people in
- 10:26Speaker 5: a way that they haven't been before, it also mad me.
- 10:29Speaker 4: Really, not one was paid to be there, To be
- 10:31Speaker 4: very clear, I've seen a lot of liberal content come
- 10:35Speaker 4: out recently saying, oh, these influences were probably paid to
- 10:39Speaker 4: be here. No, we were offered an opportunity and a
- 10:42Speaker 4: seat at the table and we took it. In fact,
- 10:45Speaker 4: for a lot of these influences, it cost them a
- 10:48Speaker 4: lot to be there because they were taking time out
- 10:51Speaker 4: of their business, They were changing their plans to be
- 10:54Speaker 4: able to attend this, which they thought would be impactful
- 10:57Speaker 4: for their communities. There was no money exchanged. It was
- 11:00Speaker 4: we got off at a seat at a table, and
- 11:02Speaker 4: I was like, heck, yeah, I'm taking that. I'm taking
- 11:05Speaker 4: up space in a place that I've never felt welcome before.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Right, how cool? That is really cool.
- 11:10Speaker 4: Why aren't we talking about the fact that politics is
- 11:13Speaker 4: becoming more approachable, Like, at the end of the day,
- 11:16Speaker 4: I'm excited about this. You guys probably not as engaged
- 11:19Speaker 4: with the budget as I was. Every year I do
- 11:21Speaker 4: like a little budget rap of like my favorite things
- 11:24Speaker 4: out of the budget or the things that I think
- 11:26Speaker 4: are going to impact you the most, and like I
- 11:28Speaker 4: don't mean to toot our own horn, I do a
- 11:30Speaker 4: little bit. But at the end of the day, I
- 11:33Speaker 4: posted a screenshot of my notes app from the frantic
- 11:36Speaker 4: notes I was taking about the budget as I was
- 11:38Speaker 4: watching it, and that got thousands of likes. And these
- 11:42Speaker 4: traditional media outlets who were posting about influencers being in
- 11:47Speaker 4: Parliament House and whatnot, they got like four likes on
- 11:50Speaker 4: their budget posts. Be for real, people are in real
- 11:54Speaker 4: time engaging with our content. Maybe you should be doing
- 11:57Speaker 4: some reflecting about how that is being person and maybe
- 12:00Speaker 4: take a leaf out of our book. At the end
- 12:02Speaker 4: of the day, we are without filter sharing our opinions.
- 12:06Speaker 4: They're going through editor after editor getting signed off for
- 12:09Speaker 4: their content.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Nah, people are over it.
- 12:11Speaker 5: And just the fact that the majority of creators that
- 12:14Speaker 5: were being taken down were female to really upset me.
- 12:17Speaker 5: And I think again, like there's a lot of old bias,
- 12:20Speaker 5: particularly when it comes to the political space, and it
- 12:23Speaker 5: was really disappointing to see that play out. And it
- 12:25Speaker 5: was really hard to see, you know, Milli and you
- 12:29Speaker 5: and Tash and Emma and we had.
- 12:31Speaker 2: A lot of I was angry. But do you know
- 12:33Speaker 2: what MILLI like?
- 12:35Speaker 4: Go look it up because Millie handled herself with such
- 12:39Speaker 4: grace and she clapped back at them on National TV
- 12:43Speaker 4: and Icon. I'm desperate to watch it. I'm going to
- 12:46Speaker 4: show you straight after this. Anyway, let's move on from
- 12:48Speaker 4: this because they could go on and on. Do you
- 12:51Speaker 4: guys want me to read you a five star review?
- 12:53Speaker 1: Yes?
- 12:53Speaker 2: Please say less? All right, sit down.
- 12:57Speaker 4: This one is from Little Deer Hue five stars. Thank
- 13:00Speaker 4: you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for
- 13:03Speaker 4: educating me about finances and money overall. I would never
- 13:06Speaker 4: have been this educated if it wasn't for your podcast
- 13:08Speaker 4: and engaging content.
- 13:10Speaker 2: I am so grateful for you. Oh c, thanks, Lil Dear,
- 13:16Speaker 2: thank you name yeah.
- 13:17Speaker 4: And it's like dad Eer so it's like the Little Animal,
- 13:22Speaker 4: very very cute, But let's get into it.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Jess.
- 13:25Speaker 4: You've been in the community this week looking at everyone's comments.
- 13:28Speaker 4: What are your favorite money wins?
- 13:30Speaker 2: Alrighty.
- 13:31Speaker 5: Firstly this week, I've got one from Rachel, who said
- 13:33Speaker 5: during my local Polarates Studios open day, they ran free
- 13:37Speaker 5: classes all morning and they provided a goodie bag which
- 13:39Speaker 5: had various freebies and discounts for local stores in the area.
- 13:43Speaker 5: She got a discount code for a free class, and
- 13:45Speaker 5: then she won an extra ten free classes on top
- 13:47Speaker 5: of that, so she managed to walk away with twelve
- 13:49Speaker 5: free classes POLARATEI Socks, Coffee, who Stunt voucher, and a
- 13:53Speaker 5: bunch of other discounts.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Oh that's great. Influencer revenge tonight. Love it. Yeah, I
- 13:57Speaker 2: think that's so cool.
- 13:59Speaker 5: Next, I got the money in from Asha, who said
- 14:01Speaker 5: it is dividend month for me.
- 14:03Speaker 2: We love a dividend month. I love that for you.
- 14:06Speaker 5: Money win from Rachel, who said she got her house
- 14:08Speaker 5: evaluated to sale. She spent the last six months renowing it,
- 14:11Speaker 5: and they did it all themselves. Turns out it's worth
- 14:14Speaker 5: more than one hundred thousand dollars than they thought it
- 14:17Speaker 5: would be.
- 14:17Speaker 4: So you made one hundred grand in the last twelve months,
- 14:20Speaker 4: baby pretty much.
- 14:21Speaker 5: She said, once they sell the money, we'll be able
- 14:24Speaker 5: to help them continue their IVF journey, which is really exciting.
- 14:27Speaker 5: They've spent a lot of money on it with no luck.
- 14:29Speaker 2: But fingers crossed for you, Rachel.
- 14:31Speaker 4: I've got all my fingers and all my toes crossed
- 14:33Speaker 4: and I'm sending you all the baby dust.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 14:37Speaker 5: Next lot of money win from Crystal, who said she
- 14:38Speaker 5: has two hundred and eleven dollars left to spend from
- 14:40Speaker 5: her salary packaging in the meal and entertainment category. Instead
- 14:43Speaker 5: of going out blowing on dinner, she's going to buy
- 14:45Speaker 5: a heap of food and freeze it. But she's got
- 14:49Speaker 5: her meals all set up, okay, she's not had money
- 14:50Speaker 5: on groceries.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Great ideas.
- 14:52Speaker 4: And I was talking about like salary sacrificing the other day,
- 14:56Speaker 4: and if you do salary sacrifice, it would be a
- 14:59Speaker 4: good time now to just do a bit of a
- 15:01Speaker 4: review and an audit of like whether this year you
- 15:03Speaker 4: used all of your salary packaging because it was it
- 15:07Speaker 4: worth it? Because so many of us go, yeah, we'll
- 15:09Speaker 4: totally be worth it. But then if you're spending it
- 15:12Speaker 4: on dining and eating out? Could that have gone to
- 15:14Speaker 4: something better? I'm not saying don't dine out.
- 15:17Speaker 2: That is not me.
- 15:18Speaker 4: I'm not a restriction girly, but if you didn't actually
- 15:21Speaker 4: use it, because like lots of us are aspirational. Yeah,
- 15:24Speaker 4: Like I'm a new mum. Do you know how many
- 15:25Speaker 4: times I've said we'll go out for dinner. We are
- 15:27Speaker 4: not going out for dinner. Like bedtime is seven thirty,
- 15:30Speaker 4: I'm not leaving the house. You can have uber eats.
- 15:32Speaker 2: My husband will meet you at the gate, because if
- 15:34Speaker 2: you wake up the baby, you are dead. To me.
- 15:37Speaker 4: But I think so many of us over estimate how
- 15:41Speaker 4: much we'll spend. Yeah, so like do a little bit
- 15:43Speaker 4: of an audit, do a little bit of a check
- 15:45Speaker 4: that pre financial yeah, and of financial year prep.
- 15:48Speaker 5: And then lastly, this week, I've got a money in
- 15:50Speaker 5: from Alex who said she moved houses recently and it's
- 15:53Speaker 5: forced her to go through the pantry with a fine
- 15:55Speaker 5: tooth comb. She's managed to cook and bake heaps of
- 15:58Speaker 5: stuff with you know, ingredients and bits and pieces she
- 16:00Speaker 5: already had, which meant the grocery bill has been so
- 16:03Speaker 5: much lower the pace.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Oh cod, that's good, such a good feeling. Yeah, and
- 16:07Speaker 2: that's it for me, lovely. Oh, it's your turn there, Well,
- 16:10Speaker 2: if I may.
- 16:11Speaker 6: I'm very excited about these ones, actually, but I also
- 16:13Speaker 6: don't want to talk it up too much because.
- 16:15Speaker 2: You might be to this point.
- 16:16Speaker 4: All right, well, let's just give us the first one
- 16:18Speaker 4: and we'll see how that goes.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Okay.
- 16:20Speaker 6: This first one comes from Alex with y love that name,
- 16:23Speaker 6: oh cute, who says that if you.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Just look into like Coals and Wars.
- 16:28Speaker 6: They have the knows every day extra and whatever the
- 16:31Speaker 6: Coals equivalent is. And with this subscription sometimes it's half priced.
- 16:35Speaker 6: So let's say thirty five dollars for the whole year, Yes,
- 16:39Speaker 6: and then you get half price.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Delivery, I believe.
- 16:42Speaker 6: But you also get every single month ten percent off.
- 16:45Speaker 6: I know this tould be true for the wool wors.
- 16:47Speaker 6: I don't know about Coals. I'm sure there's an equivalent
- 16:49Speaker 6: for that. But if you do your grocery shopping once
- 16:52Speaker 6: a month with that ten percent off.
- 16:53Speaker 4: Yeah, it always asks me at check out do you
- 16:55Speaker 4: want to use it on this this transaction?
- 16:58Speaker 2: Yeah? No, I don't.
- 16:59Speaker 4: I'm buying ten dollars worth of groceries for lunch today,
- 17:02Speaker 4: Like I do not want to be wasting that, but
- 17:04Speaker 4: I always get a little bit of a pang of anxiety,
- 17:06Speaker 4: thinking I'll click the wrong button and then I'll waste that.
- 17:09Speaker 6: Right of the big shop and don't go ever again.
- 17:15Speaker 4: Don't go to all wars for the rest of the month,
- 17:18Speaker 4: and then use the calls one the week after.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Thank them. You're saying loyalty doesn't pay.
- 17:26Speaker 6: Yes, Oh, actually, you know, I was thinking of just
- 17:28Speaker 6: getting the one, but you could do the two, great idea,
- 17:31Speaker 6: and if you're in a couple, then you get I'm
- 17:33Speaker 6: assuming if you're both buying one, you get the double.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Of the whole household a great Don't call Woolworst and
- 17:40Speaker 4: ask them whether that's ethical. I don't know if they're like, oh,
- 17:42Speaker 4: one per household, Like we can't hear you. Sorry, sorry, sorry,
- 17:47Speaker 4: you cut out.
- 17:48Speaker 6: Sorry, that's a that's a strange sounding tunnel. So Alex
- 17:56Speaker 6: said that the best wait until this goes half priced,
- 17:58Speaker 6: maybe your boxing day, so maybe you're after.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Payday sales and you really do get.
- 18:04Speaker 6: Way more out of it than it's actually So that's
- 18:07Speaker 6: my first break tip.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Yeah, what's number two?
- 18:10Speaker 6: The second one is actually from a close friend of ours,
- 18:14Speaker 6: a friend of the pod uh producer has.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Given us to go.
- 18:22Speaker 4: We're gonna have to get her on the show at
- 18:23Speaker 4: some point because she is the savviiest person ever. And
- 18:26Speaker 4: I know that she's been feeding you broke tips in
- 18:29Speaker 4: the background.
- 18:29Speaker 2: I just know.
- 18:30Speaker 4: I know she's been here going so clever beck under
- 18:33Speaker 4: the table. Here's another broke tip. Yes, it's so clever.
- 18:36Speaker 6: So this one Emma has tried and it has proven
- 18:39Speaker 6: to be true. So what you do is you google.
- 18:41Speaker 6: If you're getting takeaway, you google Dominoes. Yeah, I believe
- 18:46Speaker 6: you go to the website. Wouldn't hurt you go out,
- 18:48Speaker 6: You just press back. You Google pizza hut. Yeah, and
- 18:52Speaker 6: there should be an ad that comes up at the
- 18:55Speaker 6: top of the marketing.
- 18:57Speaker 4: Yes, yes, okay, they're getting real crafty, but right now
- 19:00Speaker 4: we're using their marketing to our advantage exactly.
- 19:03Speaker 6: And then it comes up at the top, just little
- 19:06Speaker 6: little ads saying Dominoes forty percent off and so you
- 19:08Speaker 6: get dominant.
- 19:10Speaker 2: That's so smart? Is that? That is so that is
- 19:16Speaker 2: saving money for ads. Jess is aware of this.
- 19:19Speaker 4: I don't know if you're aware of this, but if
- 19:20Speaker 4: you google Facebook ads library, you can find the Facebook
- 19:26Speaker 4: Ads Library and then once you're on that page, you
- 19:28Speaker 4: can type in your favorite brands. So say you love
- 19:31Speaker 4: Naked Harvest. Sorry Georgie, but I'm using you as an example,
- 19:34Speaker 4: So you love Naked Harvest. You can then type in
- 19:37Speaker 4: Naked Harvest into the Facebook ads library and it will
- 19:40Speaker 4: come up with every single ad that they're running, and
- 19:43Speaker 4: usually one of them is going to be a remarketing promotion,
- 19:47Speaker 4: and you can just.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Click into it.
- 19:48Speaker 4: Oh and you can be like, oh cool, there's my
- 19:50Speaker 4: ten percent discount code. God, that's good spam, so clever.
- 19:56Speaker 4: You can just see all of the ads that they're running.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Yes, thank you, that is so good. Yeah, genius.
- 20:01Speaker 4: But I want pizza always, and now we've got the
- 20:04Speaker 4: hack Absimilarly.
- 20:05Speaker 6: It's dangerous because docs is already pretty cheap, so I
- 20:08Speaker 6: feel like it's cheaper than just Double Shop.
- 20:11Speaker 4: They won't sponsor us anytime soon because we are undercutting them,
- 20:14Speaker 4: But I have no regrets.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Now, what is your broke tip?
- 20:18Speaker 6: Okay, my one. I saw this little thing and it
- 20:21Speaker 6: was on like Instagram, but it made me think. It's
- 20:23Speaker 6: called zif to z yft, but I believe it's very
- 20:26Speaker 6: similar to if you go into like the shops and
- 20:30Speaker 6: you literally just I'm not sure the equivalent is for iPhones,
- 20:33Speaker 6: but my one's called Google image search, where.
- 20:36Speaker 2: You just like Google image Google limit to perfect perfect.
- 20:39Speaker 7: Yes.
- 20:39Speaker 6: Right, So if you go into a shop and then
- 20:42Speaker 6: you literally just Google image search anything that you want
- 20:44Speaker 6: to buy, it's quite time consuming, I'm sure. But if
- 20:48Speaker 6: you go in and you're like, I'm going to spoil
- 20:50Speaker 6: myself and buy a really nice olive oil, you just
- 20:52Speaker 6: Google image search.
- 20:53Speaker 2: You see all the shopping will come up.
- 20:55Speaker 6: Everything, every price anywhere will come up in this Google
- 20:58Speaker 6: image search, hopefully, and you'll be able to see if
- 21:00Speaker 6: it's cheaper somewhere else. And it's honestly genius genius. So
- 21:05Speaker 6: I think even if it's like something that is that
- 21:07Speaker 6: looks the same, if it's a shirt, the sail was
- 21:09Speaker 6: in sas.
- 21:10Speaker 2: No, but it's genius. It's genius.
- 21:12Speaker 6: It's genius atop a shirt of lounge anything trying.
- 21:16Speaker 2: To get its cheaper than its savers. It wasn't.
- 21:20Speaker 6: It was Vinnie's in Richmond, and it's extremely expensive.
- 21:24Speaker 2: They're taking the mickey, they really are, And I'm like,
- 21:26Speaker 2: this is an opportunity shop. That's what shop is for.
- 21:28Speaker 2: So people who cannot afford this kind of stuff.
- 21:31Speaker 4: Feel like so many of them are taking the mickey.
- 21:32Speaker 4: I totally okay, you shouldn't be taking a dantage of it.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Absolutely not.
- 21:37Speaker 6: I don't like it and it was donated, Okay, so
- 21:41Speaker 6: I mean get it actual Pierce.
- 21:43Speaker 2: But okay, I know I don't like it. But I'm
- 21:47Speaker 2: assuming they are, you know, costs of the energy. They're
- 21:49Speaker 2: taking the mickey. Sometimes I'm like, they're taking the mickey.
- 21:52Speaker 4: You just told me it was Saint Vinnie's. They are
- 21:54Speaker 4: church run. They know you're taking the piss.
- 21:57Speaker 6: Yeah, that does not align with God, with.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Our values and spy.
- 22:03Speaker 6: But yes, so google image search before you buy anything,
- 22:07Speaker 6: So I do that.
- 22:08Speaker 2: I take it to the next level. Should I be
- 22:10Speaker 2: admitting this, I don't know.
- 22:12Speaker 4: But I will take photos of sorry, but I will
- 22:16Speaker 4: take screenshots of influencers content, Like if I like their
- 22:19Speaker 4: side table or you know, a trinket that they have
- 22:22Speaker 4: on a table and they've like, you know, posted it,
- 22:24Speaker 4: because I don't actually want to reply to their story
- 22:26Speaker 4: and be like where's that candle from? Just google image
- 22:29Speaker 4: search it? Yes, I google image search everything.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Isn't it good? Yep?
- 22:33Speaker 4: Photo of what they're wearing. I want your red shirt fantastic.
- 22:36Speaker 4: I'm just gonna easy snap a picture and find it
- 22:38Speaker 4: for myself. I am a resourceful queen. I don't need
- 22:41Speaker 4: anybody to tell me where to find stuff. I'm gonna
- 22:43Speaker 4: do it myself.
- 22:44Speaker 6: Good for you, Girlank you in time is money.
- 22:46Speaker 2: So that's another broke tip.
- 22:47Speaker 4: Exactly exactly. That's been really good. All right, let's go
- 22:50Speaker 4: to a really quick break on the flip side. We're
- 22:52Speaker 4: going to be helping answer a money dilemma. What do
- 22:55Speaker 4: you do when you have.
- 22:56Speaker 2: To sell your house because of a divorce?
- 22:58Speaker 4: Sticky and there, we've got something that you slid into
- 23:01Speaker 4: our dms about are you being dodgy if you don't
- 23:05Speaker 4: correct a shop when you know that they're undercharging you,
- 23:09Speaker 4: don't go anywhere? Guys, Welcome back everybody. Let's take a
- 23:16Speaker 4: listen to this week's money dilemma. Hi, there, have you
- 23:21Speaker 4: got a money dilemma you just can't solve that. She's
- 23:24Speaker 4: on the Money team is here to help. Every week
- 23:27Speaker 4: we tackle your dilemmas, both big and small, to answer
- 23:29Speaker 4: your most burning money, career and life questions. To get involved,
- 23:33Speaker 4: simply head to our website and leave us a short
- 23:35Speaker 4: voice recording and you might just find yourself on the show. Now,
- 23:39Speaker 4: let's take a listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 23:43Speaker 7: Hi, she's on the money. I'm a thirty year old
- 23:46Speaker 7: single mum to three beautiful kids. I recently had to
- 23:50Speaker 7: sell my family home as part of a really messy divorce. However,
- 23:55Speaker 7: I've been left with quite a large lump sum of
- 23:58Speaker 7: money from that sale. I've got now about one hundred
- 24:01Speaker 7: and forty thousand dollars in the bank. Unfortunately, though, due
- 24:06Speaker 7: to the house prices and interest rates, I've been in
- 24:09Speaker 7: touch with a broker and I'm unable to borrow what
- 24:12Speaker 7: I would need to repurchase the house. I'm just kind
- 24:16Speaker 7: of wondering what should I do.
- 24:18Speaker 8: I'm a registered nurse, I'm already working as much as
- 24:22Speaker 8: I can, more really than what I should be, and
- 24:27Speaker 8: I just feel like I'm in a massive money dilemma
- 24:30Speaker 8: with do I just leave my money in a high
- 24:33Speaker 8: interest savings account with the hopes I can buy if
- 24:36Speaker 8: prices improve or interest rates improve. I just don't know,
- 24:41Speaker 8: and I could really do with some advice.
- 24:43Speaker 2: That's really hard. I'm sorry that you're going through this.
- 24:45Speaker 5: I know that trying to figure out what to do
- 24:48Speaker 5: with your finances is already hard enough without then overlaying
- 24:52Speaker 5: all of the emotional trauma that comes with something this,
- 24:55Speaker 5: particularly if it's a messy divorce. So I'm really sorry
- 24:57Speaker 5: that you're going through that. My thought would be that
- 25:00Speaker 5: you're probably in an adjustment period right now. You're used
- 25:04Speaker 5: to splitting expenses, your rent, your groceries, your utilities, which
- 25:09Speaker 5: may not be the case anymore.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:11Speaker 4: No one talks about how when you get a divorce
- 25:13Speaker 4: everything just doubles, like it.
- 25:14Speaker 5: Yeah, same, It's like the single tax, right like.
- 25:17Speaker 2: One hundred pc. The single tax.
- 25:18Speaker 5: Inherently just becomes more expensive for you. And knowing that
- 25:22Speaker 5: you've got your three beautiful babies as well, I think
- 25:25Speaker 5: that maybe just takes some time and adjust to what
- 25:28Speaker 5: this new season of life looks like for you. You might
- 25:31Speaker 5: find that there are expenses you weren't prepared for. You know,
- 25:34Speaker 5: you don't really have any historical data to go off
- 25:37Speaker 5: in terms of setting up your budget and stuff. So
- 25:40Speaker 5: I would probably be inclined to say, for a little bit,
- 25:42Speaker 5: keep it in a high entert savings account. You don't
- 25:45Speaker 5: need to make that decision right now, similar to kind
- 25:47Speaker 5: of like what Victoria would say, when you receive an inheritance,
- 25:51Speaker 5: you don't have to move the lump some super quickly
- 25:54Speaker 5: or immediately, like, let's get used to what things look
- 25:57Speaker 5: like for you now and then you can make them
- 26:00Speaker 5: more informed decision down the track.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Beck, what are you doing?
- 26:03Speaker 6: I'm saying, it's a very similar thing in my mind though,
- 26:07Speaker 6: and I know it's very complicated and I'm not sure
- 26:10Speaker 6: what this our listener's situation's like, but I'm really hoping
- 26:14Speaker 6: that the laybor the mental and emotional labor of like
- 26:17Speaker 6: you know, child rearing and child caring doesn't all by default,
- 26:24Speaker 6: because I believe did that Did our listener say that
- 26:25Speaker 6: she's a single parrot?
- 26:26Speaker 3: Now?
- 26:27Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 26:27Speaker 6: And I'm like, that's you know, you both decide to
- 26:30Speaker 6: have children, so it's suck said. It just kind of
- 26:32Speaker 6: sounds like it's all falling on one person. But anyway,
- 26:36Speaker 6: I don't know the situation, so I'm hoping that the
- 26:40Speaker 6: expenses and the labor and the running around after people
- 26:44Speaker 6: and taking care of everyone is equal there.
- 26:47Speaker 2: That's all I'm going to say.
- 26:48Speaker 6: It has nothing to do with what our listener is asking,
- 26:50Speaker 6: and I'm very sorry.
- 26:51Speaker 2: So I would just the same thing.
- 26:52Speaker 6: I would keep it in a high indrant savings account
- 26:56Speaker 6: until exactly you kind of figure out what the new
- 27:00Speaker 6: normal is like.
- 27:02Speaker 2: I guess.
- 27:02Speaker 6: I mean, it depends on where you live and what
- 27:04Speaker 6: you're actually able, what you have capacity for. But maybe
- 27:08Speaker 6: just like trying to find like really affordable housing right now,
- 27:12Speaker 6: which is very very hard to do. I don't know
- 27:14Speaker 6: if you're renting or if you're currently living in a
- 27:16Speaker 6: house that you both bought, or what the situation is like,
- 27:19Speaker 6: but yeah, just trying to get on top of that,
- 27:22Speaker 6: figure out what your expenses are and then going from there.
- 27:26Speaker 6: And it might mean I know, a couple of weeks ago,
- 27:28Speaker 6: maybe we had someone on talking about should you move
- 27:31Speaker 6: to afford something nice or stay where you are around
- 27:36Speaker 6: your community, and I'm kind of like more in the
- 27:39Speaker 6: boat of that. But if it means you have to
- 27:41Speaker 6: move out a little bit further than where you are
- 27:43Speaker 6: or whatever to find something more affordable, that's also an option.
- 27:47Speaker 6: But yeah, I think absolutely what Jessa is saying, high
- 27:49Speaker 6: interest Aman's account, figure out what your new normal looks
- 27:51Speaker 6: like and kind of go from there.
- 27:54Speaker 2: I love that.
- 27:55Speaker 4: So when I'm thinking about this, We're going to do
- 27:58Speaker 4: some episodes soon on divorce because I think that so
- 28:01Speaker 4: many people are going through this and it feels like
- 28:04Speaker 4: the blind leading the blind sometimes, like I'm speaking to
- 28:07Speaker 4: so many girlfriends who unfortunately are going through this situation.
- 28:10Speaker 4: At the moment, it can get messy, and then you
- 28:13Speaker 4: get these lump some payments and you feel overwhelmed and
- 28:15Speaker 4: you don't know what to do. But you also know
- 28:17Speaker 4: that you want future financial security, but you also want
- 28:20Speaker 4: to provide for your kids, but you also just you
- 28:22Speaker 4: feel stuck. Now just because you can't afford property doesn't
- 28:26Speaker 4: mean you can't invest. And with one hundred and forty
- 28:30Speaker 4: thousand dollars, you can afford to pay for financial advice
- 28:36Speaker 4: and I absolutely would be doing this. Like at the
- 28:39Speaker 4: end of the day, being a single mum is hard.
- 28:42Speaker 4: You have three kids to look after and all out
- 28:44Speaker 4: here just trying to do our best.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Right.
- 28:46Speaker 4: You said you're a nurse, so finance isn't the first
- 28:49Speaker 4: thing that you completely understand. I'm not saying that you're
- 28:52Speaker 4: not intelligent, but go get someone who can put you
- 28:55Speaker 4: on absolutely the right track to not only find your
- 28:59Speaker 4: feet but thrive, because with that one hundred and forty
- 29:03Speaker 4: thousand dollars you could invest it like that that could
- 29:05Speaker 4: work really well, like you could have a share portfolio.
- 29:08Speaker 4: We could step back and be like, you know what,
- 29:09Speaker 4: the property market is actual cooked.
- 29:11Speaker 2: I actually don't want to have anything to do with that.
- 29:14Speaker 2: You know what I'm going to do.
- 29:15Speaker 4: I'm going to rent a really nice house and call
- 29:18Speaker 4: it for property, but to rent a nice house, and
- 29:20Speaker 4: you know what, I might even talk to the real
- 29:22Speaker 4: estate agent about negotiating a long release so I feel
- 29:25Speaker 4: like I have more stability, Like can I have a two, three,
- 29:29Speaker 4: five year lease that is becoming.
- 29:30Speaker 2: More and more popular?
- 29:33Speaker 4: Then if you had invested that one hundred and forty
- 29:36Speaker 4: thousand dollars, all right, so we've got that cash, we're
- 29:38Speaker 4: going to put it into the share market in thirty
- 29:41Speaker 4: years time at an average rate of return of nine
- 29:43Speaker 4: and a half percent, which we know is the average
- 29:45Speaker 4: market returns for the Australian share market over the last
- 29:48Speaker 4: thirty years. If you're invested for thirty years, that one
- 29:51Speaker 4: forty without any additional contributions is going to become two
- 29:55Speaker 4: point three million dollars.
- 29:56Speaker 2: WHOA. That is going to mean that you could retire
- 29:59Speaker 2: very comfortably.
- 30:00Speaker 4: In saying that you need financial advice because you've got
- 30:03Speaker 4: three kids, what costs a were incurring? What amount are we
- 30:08Speaker 4: keeping aside for a healthy emergency fund so that you
- 30:11Speaker 4: don't feel financial pressure because as much as you might go,
- 30:16Speaker 4: housing equals security, like I feel secure, Like I don't
- 30:19Speaker 4: feel like I'm providing for my kids right now. I
- 30:22Speaker 4: promise having a mortgage that is stressing you every single
- 30:25Speaker 4: month is not going to be as valuable as you
- 30:28Speaker 4: think it is than having an emergency fund that you know,
- 30:31Speaker 4: if the kids come home with another permission slip for
- 30:34Speaker 4: a excursion that's a couple of one hundred dollars, you
- 30:36Speaker 4: could be like, yeah, norries, Like I've got that covered.
- 30:39Speaker 4: Like what's going to make you feel like the best
- 30:42Speaker 4: mum that you want to be? Like, what's going to
- 30:44Speaker 4: give you that freedom to be the mum you want
- 30:46Speaker 4: to be in this situation because more often than not,
- 30:49Speaker 4: when you're going through a divorce, you didn't have three
- 30:51Speaker 4: kids thinking you'd be bringing them up on your own,
- 30:54Speaker 4: Like that's not most people's plan, Like most people, and
- 30:58Speaker 4: like I have spoken to a lot of women who
- 31:00Speaker 4: have gone through divorce, They're like, girl, I love my kids.
- 31:03Speaker 4: I would not change a thing about my life, Like
- 31:06Speaker 4: that's not it. But had I thought that I would
- 31:08Speaker 4: be a single mum, I would have stopped at one. Like,
- 31:10Speaker 4: you know, I never really comprehended the idea that this
- 31:13Speaker 4: wasn't forever and you're not planning on it, Like, I
- 31:16Speaker 4: don't think anybody like gets married with the intention of leaving. Like,
- 31:21Speaker 4: don't get me wrong, Like, we have all the best intentions,
- 31:24Speaker 4: but we need to create some really solid plans to
- 31:26Speaker 4: put you in the best possible position. So for me,
- 31:29Speaker 4: that would actually start with financial advice, because just feeling
- 31:33Speaker 4: like you're doing the right thing is one thing, but
- 31:35Speaker 4: to have someone on your team getting shit done is
- 31:40Speaker 4: going to take it to the next level. You're going
- 31:41Speaker 4: to feel so financially secure. We're gonna look at your
- 31:44Speaker 4: super we're gonna look at your savings, we're gonna look
- 31:46Speaker 4: at your lump sum.
- 31:48Speaker 2: We're going to make sure.
- 31:48Speaker 4: That future you is okay. But we're giving these kids
- 31:51Speaker 4: the life that you want to give them. Slay, let's
- 31:55Speaker 4: do that. Like, that's an investment into your future that
- 31:58Speaker 4: I think you should be making. Because even if we
- 32:01Speaker 4: go all right, we're going to speak to a financial advisor,
- 32:03Speaker 4: and with my salary, I can't afford a mortgage. But
- 32:05Speaker 4: what I'm going to do is invest the lump sum
- 32:08Speaker 4: of money and then I'm going to contribute to that
- 32:10Speaker 4: each and every single month. And we're investing I don't know,
- 32:12Speaker 4: five hundred bucks each and every single month, that investment
- 32:15Speaker 4: portfolio goes from two point three million dollars to three
- 32:18Speaker 4: point four million dollars. Like, we are creating financial freedom
- 32:22Speaker 4: for ourselves. You are creating legacy for your children. You
- 32:26Speaker 4: are creating financial security for them and for me, that
- 32:30Speaker 4: to me, now i am a mum, feels much more
- 32:32Speaker 4: secure than just getting into a property like property very sexy. Yeah,
- 32:37Speaker 4: I feel like, especially in Australia, we look at property
- 32:40Speaker 4: and go we can see it, we can touch it,
- 32:42Speaker 4: we can taste it, we can feel it.
- 32:43Speaker 2: It feels secure.
- 32:45Speaker 4: That doesn't necessarily mean financially that's the best decision. And
- 32:49Speaker 4: sometimes we have to make decisions that are in line
- 32:51Speaker 4: with our strategy, not just in line without emotions. All right, Jess,
- 32:55Speaker 4: would you like to jump into the juicy DM?
- 32:57Speaker 2: Absolutely?
- 32:58Speaker 4: All right? So the DM we got this week or right,
- 33:01Speaker 4: che's on the money? Tell me if I'm being dodgy.
- 33:04Speaker 2: My husband and I were buying a fridge and a
- 33:06Speaker 2: washing machine from one of the big chain stores, and
- 33:09Speaker 2: when the staff wrong it up, the total came out
- 33:12Speaker 2: way cheaper than we expected, which is paid and left
- 33:15Speaker 2: before anybody said anything. I thought we both realized at
- 33:18Speaker 2: the time. But when I brought it up, he suddenly
- 33:21Speaker 2: got all serious, saying we need to go back and
- 33:23Speaker 2: fix that. I was like, are you kidding?
- 33:25Speaker 4: If they overcharged us, they wouldn't be chasing us down
- 33:28Speaker 4: to give our money back. Big stores make mistakes all
- 33:31Speaker 4: the time. They've probably got insurance for this. It's not
- 33:34Speaker 4: like we scammed a family run cafe or something.
- 33:37Speaker 2: He reckons it's about doing the right thing.
- 33:40Speaker 4: But I kind of think it's retail karma and we
- 33:42Speaker 4: should just be taking the money win. Who actually is
- 33:46Speaker 4: in the wrong here.
- 33:48Speaker 6: I would not even second, like think about it for
- 33:52Speaker 6: one second. I would not question anything. I'm taking it
- 33:56Speaker 6: and I'm running unless it's like a small business, as
- 34:00Speaker 6: they're saying, small business, you know, little cafe, a family
- 34:04Speaker 6: run anything like something that's smaller on the smaller scale.
- 34:08Speaker 2: I'm not doing that. I get it. I get where
- 34:10Speaker 2: that anxiety would come from. That feeling. Yeah, yeah, but
- 34:13Speaker 2: really it's like.
- 34:14Speaker 6: A money win as far as I'm because then great,
- 34:17Speaker 6: because I can promise you.
- 34:19Speaker 2: So you need to go in and be like, sir,
- 34:21Speaker 2: we're not going back. Ah.
- 34:23Speaker 6: Yeah, no, I'm saying to your husband right now, don't
- 34:26Speaker 6: worry about it.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Sleep easy, I'm not worried. Don't worry about them.
- 34:30Speaker 6: Plus, the prophecies that these guys are bring in disgusting.
- 34:33Speaker 4: Can I take a stab in the dark, Yes, Jessica.
- 34:36Speaker 4: The guilt would eat you away, wouldn't it.
- 34:38Speaker 5: I have been known to go back to a shop
- 34:41Speaker 5: if I've realized that I haven't paid for something. But
- 34:43Speaker 5: I like, I agree with your perspective. Like, I think
- 34:45Speaker 5: big corporations very much take advantage of the little guy
- 34:49Speaker 5: on the daily.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just I taking a power back. Yeah, like,
- 34:53Speaker 2: and I'm all for that.
- 34:54Speaker 5: I just know that I personally like it will keep
- 34:58Speaker 5: me up at night if I feel like I've done
- 35:00Speaker 5: the wrong thing, and that's something that I would feel
- 35:02Speaker 5: is coming a lot of guilt over. But yeah, I
- 35:05Speaker 5: see both sides. I think the you know, electronics are
- 35:08Speaker 5: also a high ticket item. It's not like a fifteen
- 35:11Speaker 5: dollar you know, tet or.
- 35:13Speaker 2: Something like that. So I get it.
- 35:15Speaker 5: There's always the chance that if you got This is
- 35:18Speaker 5: very specific, but like if you've got them delivered, like
- 35:20Speaker 5: if they might notice when like.
- 35:23Speaker 2: The invoice or something.
- 35:24Speaker 5: Yeah, well, because the way that it works, if that's
- 35:26Speaker 5: what they've done, is if you've only paid for one item,
- 35:28Speaker 5: that is the only item that will be on your invoice.
- 35:31Speaker 2: So then if you've bought like.
- 35:32Speaker 4: A wasp and then you're not having that item delivered,
- 35:36Speaker 4: will be like you don't actually have a washer and
- 35:38Speaker 4: a dryer?
- 35:38Speaker 2: Yeah, and yes I do, And they'll be like, show
- 35:42Speaker 2: me your receipt.
- 35:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:42Speaker 5: Yeah, So there's a chance that it might just kind
- 35:44Speaker 5: of course correct itself anyway, depending on you know, what you've.
- 35:47Speaker 2: Bought, so you're relying on course correction.
- 35:50Speaker 5: I feel like maybe that's a happy middle for them,
- 35:52Speaker 5: you know what I mean, Like if you guys can't
- 35:54Speaker 5: come to an agreement, maybe you go, okay, well it's
- 35:55Speaker 5: in the universe.
- 35:56Speaker 4: Universe.
- 35:57Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 35:58Speaker 4: I don't know how I feel about this. I think
- 36:00Speaker 4: I am definitely known for letting people know that they're
- 36:03Speaker 4: not charging me. The other day at the airport, I
- 36:05Speaker 4: ordered two fruit salads and she was like, yep, let
- 36:08Speaker 4: me go get them. Like the chargey thing will come
- 36:11Speaker 4: up and then it never did, and she came back
- 36:13Speaker 4: and was like, here's your fruit salads.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Have a good day.
- 36:14Speaker 4: And I was like, you haven't charged me, because she
- 36:16Speaker 4: clearly didn't click the thing.
- 36:18Speaker 2: And she was like, oh my god.
- 36:19Speaker 4: Other people would just walk away, and I'm like, the
- 36:21Speaker 4: gilt would eat me alive. But a year ago or so,
- 36:25Speaker 4: I accidentally stole a whole roast chicken from Coals Coals.
- 36:29Speaker 4: I'm so sorry. I did try to pay them back though,
- 36:32Speaker 4: because like I stole it.
- 36:33Speaker 2: I walked out.
- 36:34Speaker 4: I'd gone through self checkout, but you know when you
- 36:36Speaker 4: like grab more items than you think you were going to,
- 36:39Speaker 4: so you didn't grab a basket, I'd put the roast chicken.
- 36:43Speaker 4: I took the slip and put it on my arm right,
- 36:46Speaker 4: and so then I had all these other items and
- 36:48Speaker 4: I'm checking out, and because I had my handbag and
- 36:50Speaker 4: a roast chicken on my arm, I literally didn't scan
- 36:53Speaker 4: it at self checkout.
- 36:54Speaker 2: Left.
- 36:54Speaker 4: I stole a whole chicken. Guys got home realized what
- 36:57Speaker 4: I'd done. I'm not going back to the shops. It's
- 37:00Speaker 4: not happening. I ate the roast chicken. Ten out of
- 37:03Speaker 4: ten roast chicken. It does indeed taste better when it
- 37:05Speaker 4: is free. So then the next time I was at Corals,
- 37:09Speaker 4: I went up to the you know, the area where
- 37:10Speaker 4: they like sell cigarettes, and I was like, oh, no,
- 37:12Speaker 4: you probably have it on a camera, Like I didn't
- 37:15Speaker 4: want to be blacklisted.
- 37:16Speaker 2: I don't know, do they like I don't know.
- 37:18Speaker 4: At my Long Call supermarket, which is like a boutique supermarket,
- 37:21Speaker 4: not the one I went to, there's actually a sign
- 37:23Speaker 4: up at the front door and I'll take a photo
- 37:25Speaker 4: of it and put it on socials because it's funny
- 37:27Speaker 4: and it's of this guy who clearly steals a lot
- 37:30Speaker 4: from them, and it says band for Life, and it
- 37:33Speaker 4: says photo of this guy going through a checkout.
- 37:35Speaker 2: And I just have that in my mind, thinking your
- 37:38Speaker 2: face outside cos he's a listed. Funny because like they've
- 37:45Speaker 2: got AI and stuff at the checkout.
- 37:46Speaker 4: I don't know, maybe they're gonna be like this woman
- 37:49Speaker 4: steals chickens. Anyway, I was like, I'm going to go
- 37:53Speaker 4: back up, and I said to the girl, Hey, this
- 37:54Speaker 4: like really awkward thing happened, and like I explained to
- 37:57Speaker 4: this whole process in the same way that I just
- 37:59Speaker 4: explained it to your because I was like this is
- 38:01Speaker 4: so awkward and she's like, just leave it and I
- 38:04Speaker 4: was like no, but like, should I pay you for
- 38:05Speaker 4: the chicken now? She's like, I don't even know how
- 38:08Speaker 4: to do that, and I was like, okay enough. She's
- 38:11Speaker 4: like just a win is a win kind of vibes,
- 38:13Speaker 4: and I was like, okay, well I tried, but I
- 38:16Speaker 4: don't think they'll do the same for a washing machine
- 38:18Speaker 4: and a dryer. But I mean, I think it all
- 38:20Speaker 4: comes down to, like you personally, I don't think it's
- 38:24Speaker 4: the end of the world. I don't judge anyone for
- 38:26Speaker 4: not what if you didn't notice.
- 38:29Speaker 2: Well, that's the thing.
- 38:29Speaker 5: I'm sure it happens all the time where people do
- 38:31Speaker 5: and they just go, oh, well, they must have been
- 38:33Speaker 5: on sale.
- 38:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:33Speaker 4: And I remember checking my statement once and I got
- 38:36Speaker 4: overcharged for a coffee and I was like, rude, but
- 38:39Speaker 4: I can't be bothered fixing that.
- 38:41Speaker 2: Well, that's true. It kind of calming financial privilege.
- 38:43Speaker 4: But at the end of the day, I was like, oh,
- 38:45Speaker 4: but like, things happen, and I do think I don't know.
- 38:48Speaker 4: I feel like karma comes around and we should do
- 38:52Speaker 4: the right thing where possible. If it's a big come
- 38:54Speaker 4: it's very different than if you went to a mum
- 38:56Speaker 4: and dad electrical company and bought a washing machine off
- 39:00Speaker 4: than if you went and bought it off one of
- 39:02Speaker 4: the big guys.
- 39:03Speaker 6: Absolutely, if you're not even making a dent in the
- 39:06Speaker 6: whole ecosystem, I agree, then whatever, But yeah, a small business,
- 39:12Speaker 6: you want a media community?
- 39:13Speaker 4: I do, actually right, So we said if this happened
- 39:16Speaker 4: to you, would you go back and tell them? Turns
- 39:18Speaker 4: out most people are bes because only eight percent of
- 39:21Speaker 4: people said, yeah, I'll.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Go do the right thing in this economy I get it.
- 39:25Speaker 4: Yeah, in this economy judgment, we're just talking about our
- 39:28Speaker 4: personal experiences. Thirty four percent of you said, depends on
- 39:32Speaker 4: the amount, and fifty eight percent of you said no,
- 39:34Speaker 4: taking the money.
- 39:35Speaker 2: In gorgeous love this.
- 39:37Speaker 4: We then asked big retail chains deserve the same ethical
- 39:40Speaker 4: treatment as small businesses. No surprises here are Sixty three
- 39:44Speaker 4: percent of you said big retail is not the same
- 39:47Speaker 4: as small business.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Nine percent of you said, yeah, wrong is wrong?
- 39:50Speaker 4: Okay, in twenty eight percent of you said, depending on
- 39:53Speaker 4: the size of the mistake. Now I love that. But
- 39:56Speaker 4: then we also, as always said, to the community, whilst
- 39:59Speaker 4: your two cent first person said, I just assume it
- 40:02Speaker 4: was a really good sale. I'm not gonna think twice.
- 40:05Speaker 4: Another person said I don't.
- 40:07Speaker 2: Want any excuse for karma.
- 40:09Speaker 4: I'm going to go back just purely to try and
- 40:12Speaker 4: avoid the bad juju fair. Someone else said I would
- 40:15Speaker 4: be worried about potential claims on the warranty.
- 40:18Speaker 2: Think about that point yep.
- 40:21Speaker 4: Someone else said, you can google the profits those places
- 40:24Speaker 4: are making and the salaries of the CEOs.
- 40:27Speaker 2: You won't feel so bad after that.
- 40:29Speaker 5: Yeah, yep.
- 40:30Speaker 4: Someone else said, sounds like OP is seeking justification for theft.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Wrong. It's wrong, scary, so spicy.
- 40:39Speaker 4: Someone else said, my mum works for a big retailer.
- 40:41Speaker 4: The markup is crazy. They actually lost nothing. Take your
- 40:45Speaker 4: win and run, yes girl. Another person said people often
- 40:48Speaker 4: forget that some places we see as chains actually franchises
- 40:52Speaker 4: that are run by small families.
- 40:53Speaker 2: That's also a really sam great call. Yeah, but I
- 40:56Speaker 2: don't Yeah, maybe we google it. Someone has said ethically
- 41:00Speaker 2: thinking it does feel a lot like theft big company,
- 41:03Speaker 2: though it calls little people with shares impacted. I think
- 41:08Speaker 2: their shares will be impacted.
- 41:10Speaker 6: Nah.
- 41:10Speaker 4: No, So honestly, all businesses have some level of risk
- 41:15Speaker 4: built into their budgets as insurance, like if it's so big,
- 41:19Speaker 4: they'll claim on insurance, or you know what, if it's
- 41:21Speaker 4: that bad that sales assistant will call you and be like, hey, Jessica,
- 41:24Speaker 4: I made a mistake.
- 41:25Speaker 2: I need to fix it up. And you're going, oh,
- 41:27Speaker 2: I didn't even realize, Like, actually that happens, and it
- 41:30Speaker 2: totally that's it from me and from the community. Gorgeous. Well,
- 41:35Speaker 2: I hope you guys have a lovely weekend. Yeah, after
- 41:37Speaker 2: school weekend, We'll see.
