Latest / The Daily Sarcast / June 10th, 2026: TSA-Style Knicks, AI Boats And Unemployment
Transcript
- 0:00Today's episode is brought to you by Making New Friends. It's seriously one
- 0:04of the most underrated things ever.
- 0:07Save a life, not a bag. A new campaign by the airline because people have been
- 0:11trying to save their bags in an emergency before themselves.
- 0:16Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Sarcast. I'll give you the news and maybe a laugh.
- 0:21I'm Lindsay Vernick and today is June 10th, 2026.
- 0:25Good morning, sunshines. It's a beautiful day.
- 0:29It's Wednesday, can you believe? Wow, this week is flying. I don't even know what day it is anymore.
- 0:35But I hope that you have a great day. And go Knicks tonight.
- 0:40And speaking of the Knicks, for Game 4 today, the Knicks are bringing back their
- 0:45watch party outside Madison Square Garden.
- 0:48But this time, it's going to be ticketed, fenced off, and comes with TSA-style security.
- 0:54Because New York decided to treat this like an international summit.
- 0:59The city is creating a security perimeter around MSG, screening everyone who
- 1:03enters with literally TSA-style security and banning things like bags,
- 1:08alcohol, and umbrellas,
- 1:10which is pretty unfortunate because alcohol is usually how Knicks fans process Knicks basketball.
- 1:16This crackdown comes after police arrested 21 people following the game on Monday night,
- 1:22when fans fought, climbed on structures, climbed on vehicles,
- 1:26and generally behaved like every person who's ever appeared in a Florida Man headline.
- 1:32MSG isn't happy about the restrictions either. They say that the security zone
- 1:37will hurt local businesses and limit fan celebrations, which is New York's version
- 1:42of a constitutional crisis.
- 1:44To get into the watch party, fans need a ticket, they have to get their security,
- 1:49and once they're inside, they can't leave, and if they do, they can't come back.
- 1:54So congratulations, Knicks fans. You successfully turned watching basketball
- 1:59into going to the airport.
- 2:01The Knicks still lead the finals two games to one, and if they win tonight,
- 2:06the city might have to put Manhattan under witness protection.
- 2:10An Air Canada pilot has just been charged after authorities discovered he spent
- 2:16the last 16 years flying commercial passenger flights without the proctor captain's license.
- 2:24He hasn't been doing this just for a month or for a year.
- 2:28He hasn't been flying with his license for 16 years.
- 2:33Jeffrey Wall flew more than 900 domestic and international flights between 2009
- 2:39and 2025 before anyone knew the paperwork problem.
- 2:44Which raises this question. What exactly was everyone at Air Canada doing at
- 2:49work while this guy was apparently operating on pure confidence?
- 2:54Air Canada says safety was never compromised because he had a commercial pilot's license.
- 3:00He completed reoccurring training every six months and passed annual flight checks.
- 3:07So essentially their defense is, to be fair, he knew how to fly a plane and he did his trainings.
- 3:13The airline says the issue was that he was promoted to captain without getting
- 3:18the specific license required for that position.
- 3:22That's like finding out your surgeon graduated from medical school but never
- 3:28actually passed the test for it.
- 3:30It's not the bar because that's what lawyers do.
- 3:34What's the medical school test? Is there a test? I don't even know.
- 3:37Anyways, it's just like that. So this discovery came after a documentation review.
- 3:44However, this pilot also filed a false report claiming his pilot documents had been stolen.
- 3:51Imagine getting away with something for 16 years and then being taken down by
- 3:56the administration equivalent of, can you attach the PDF of this?
- 4:01The good news is that after 900 successful flights, everyone can probably feel reassured from that.
- 4:08The bad news is that right now, the entire HR and PR team of Air Canada just
- 4:12broke out into a cold sweat and started checking everyone's credentials.
- 4:17This guy wasn't flying under the radar. He was flying the radar.
- 4:21The U.S. and Iran exchanged military strikes this week.
- 4:25How romantic. After an American helicopter crashed near the Strait of Hormuz.
- 4:31Trump initially blamed Iran for shooting down the helicopter and ordered retaliatory
- 4:35strikes on Iranian military sites.
- 4:38Iran responded by launching attacks at U.S. sites.
- 4:42So that's the terrifying part. Now here's the weird part.
- 4:46Apparently the helicopter may have actually collided with an Iranian drone.
- 4:51But they're still trying to figure out exactly what happened.
- 4:54But the real thing that I'm trying to talk about here is what happened after that.
- 4:59The two American pilots were rescued by a robot boat.
- 5:03Not a rescue boat, but a robot boat.
- 5:07The U.S. military said that a boat with no people on it found the pilots in
- 5:13the ocean, or wherever they were, in the middle of the night,
- 5:16picked them up, and delivered them to safety until a helicopter could pick them up again.
- 5:21For years, science fiction has promised us flying cars.
- 5:25Instead, 2026 gave us AI rescue boats pulling pilots out of the ocean while
- 5:32world leaders argue over social media.
- 5:35So now the robots aren't just taking our jobs. They're just quietly becoming employees of the month.
- 5:41Meanwhile, over here, diplomats are still trying to negotiate a broader peace
- 5:46deal between the U.S. and Iran.
- 5:48Those talks have been stalled, obviously.
- 5:52So while politicians continue arguing over who started what,
- 5:56the only clear good thing right now appears to be a 24-foot robot boat that showed up,
- 6:02did its job, and somehow caused a lot less drama than every other human in the world does.
- 6:08In Lindsay life. So as you know, I'm officially unemployed again.
- 6:12I just wrapped a Hulu show last week.
- 6:15So I'm trying to file for unemployment in New York.
- 6:19However I can because I have a claim open in Massachusetts which I shouldn't
- 6:24have open because I actually have a claim open
- 6:28in New Jersey where I really should have filed and actually have an appeal for
- 6:32that going on right now and I'm supposed to get a date for that any day now
- 6:37to have a day in court to get all my employment money from this past year,
- 6:41but just for right now I have to file for New York unemployment.
- 6:46And I said all of this to this woman on the Massachusetts unemployment line
- 6:50yesterday. And I stress this girl out more than I'm stressed.
- 6:55And I feel like that's saying a lot. Things I'm thinking about.
- 7:00Okay, you might not get this one. But there's just some people that you connect with.
- 7:05Like last night, there were a couple girls who I went to this like tribeca film
- 7:10festival event and there was like a networking cocktail hour after,
- 7:14and there was a few girls that i chatted with i connected with and we like followed
- 7:18each other on instagram they were super nice,
- 7:21but then there was this one girl that i met afterwards that i actually like
- 7:24really deeply connected with and we like really talked for a while and.
- 7:29And you're like, oh my god, let's actually be friends. And I think it's just
- 7:32so interesting when you meet somebody like that and you really just click with them.
- 7:37I think it's just so cool. And if you don't know what I'm talking about,
- 7:40you're probably like, oh my god, Lindsay's so crazy. And yes, I am crazy.
- 7:44But if you know what I'm talking about, like, isn't it so cool?
- 7:47Isn't it such a great feeling?
- 7:49Anyways, here's your cooking tip of the day. Some things are just only good or reheated.
- 7:56Feedback, comments, questions, a nice Jewish boy looking for a date,
- 7:59email me at lindsay at thedailystarcast.com.
- 8:02Thanks so much for listening. Talk to you guys tomorrow.
