- 0:01Ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much for joining me today.
- 0:03You can hear in the background that we've got, we're getting
- 0:10prepared for a live presser in Tucson, AZ that should start.
- 0:17It always starts late, so who knows?
- 0:19So I'm going to. Just.
- 0:21I'm just going to turn that. Down just a little.
- 0:24Bit let me just mute it for just a second.
- 0:27We'll keep our eye open to make sure that that we don't miss
- 0:32anything. In fact, I think what I will do
- 0:35is I just going to bring the volume down.
- 0:39So it's just kind of in the background.
- 0:42That was a bit of a cold open, wasn't it guys?
- 0:47Welcome to a rare midday conversation with me, Gavin
- 0:50Fish. I'm grateful you are here for
- 0:53the case of missing, presumed kidnapped Nancy Guthrie, the
- 1:00mother of TODAY host Savannah Guthrie.
- 1:04She has two other children as well and grandchildren.
- 1:08She's going to. There's going to be a press
- 1:10conference live here at the Sheriff's Office in Pima County
- 1:14down there in the Tucson area. I don't expect it to start
- 1:18anytime soon, maybe maybe in the next half an hour or so.
- 1:24So we'll just keep that volume kind of low so that we can hear
- 1:28it on the on on the old headphones and then we will
- 1:34spend a little bit of time getting up to speed on this
- 1:37case. Stick with it.
- 1:50This video contains mature themes and discussions intended
- 1:53only for adult audiences. Viewer discretion is advised.
- 1:59Hello there my friend, welcome back on my channel.
- 2:03We'd like to cut through the fluff, the sensationalism of
- 2:06true crime. Get right to the nitty gritty.
- 2:07This case is full of nitty gritty.
- 2:11On this past Sunday in the early morning hours, it is presumed
- 2:17that Nancy Guthrie, age 84, somebody who mentally is acute,
- 2:22sharp, but physically unable really to to do much.
- 2:29I mean, I mean, she lives her life, right?
- 2:31But she was described as somebody who can't walk 50 yards
- 2:35by herself. So she has some physical
- 2:36limitations, but mentally she is all there.
- 2:41We also understand that she has some heart issues.
- 2:43She takes medication, She has a pacemaker.
- 2:47One of the reasons we believe she was taken in the early
- 2:49morning hours, around 2:00 AM on Sunday morning is because the
- 2:56pacemaker lost connection to her Apple Watch into her iPhone,
- 3:02which was left behind at the scene.
- 3:05That happened around 2:00 AM, according to some sources.
- 3:08And so that's when we think it happened.
- 3:13Since you and I last spoke last night, there's been quite a bit
- 3:18of, there's been quite a bit of news actually, while we were on
- 3:23last night, police, sheriff's units came up to Nancy's house
- 3:30out there in Pima County in a rural area of Tucson, AZ parked
- 3:37in the driveway, put up caution tape, you know, like crime scene
- 3:42tape, do not cross tape. And it appeared that they were
- 3:46looking mostly in the garage. They were there for about two
- 3:51hours, according to Brian Enton. Brian Enton did a terrific
- 3:54report today where his camera guy put up a drone and was able
- 3:58to kind of see what was happening.
- 4:01So police were there at the house for a couple of hours and
- 4:04then and then they then they left the crime scene tape came
- 4:11back down. The other thing that happened in
- 4:15the in the time that you and I have been together is the
- 4:19Guthrie family has sent out has produced a video to the
- 4:27kidnappers. Well, now wrong button.
- 4:30Gavin, let me let me, let me get the right Javi is off during the
- 4:35day. He's he works at night, so I
- 4:39have to push the buttons all by myself make sure that I get
- 4:42these right there we go This is this is the video right here and
- 4:45we're keeping an eye we're keeping an eye on what's going
- 4:48on over here and we will definitely come back to it.
- 4:53But since we haven't watched this video together, it's almost
- 4:56a 4 minute video. Let's go ahead and watch it
- 4:59together. Shall we check your headphones
- 5:01here. I I am in this case I brought
- 5:03the volume down, but just just check your headphones.
- 5:07Here we go. On behalf of our family, we want
- 5:13to thank all of you for the prayers for our beloved mom,
- 5:17Nancy. We.
- 5:19Feel them on. The press conference.
- 5:21And we continue to believe that she feels them too.
- 5:28Our mom is a kind, faithful, loyal, fiercely loving woman of
- 5:35goodness and light. She is funny and spunky and
- 5:41clever. She has grandchildren that adore
- 5:45her and crowd around her and cover her with kisses.
- 5:50She loves fun and adventure. She is a devoted friend.
- 5:56She is full of kindness and knowledge.
- 6:00Talk to her and you'll see the light is missing from our lives.
- 6:08Nancy is our mother. We are her children.
- 6:14She is our beacon. She holds fast to joy in all of
- 6:21life's circumstances. She chooses joy day after day,
- 6:27despite having already passed through great trials of pain and
- 6:32grief. We are always going to be merely
- 6:37human. Just normal human people who
- 6:41need our mom, Mama, Mama. If you're listening.
- 6:51We need you to come home. We miss you.
- 6:59Our mom is our heart and our home.
- 7:04She's 84 years old. Her health, her heart is
- 7:09fragile. She lives in constant pain.
- 7:14She is without any medicine. She needs it to survive and she
- 7:19needs it not to suffer. We too have heard the reports
- 7:26about a ransom letter in the media.
- 7:29As a family, we are doing everything that we can.
- 7:35We are ready to talk. However, we live in a world
- 7:42where voices and images are easily manipulated.
- 7:48We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you
- 7:55have her. We want to hear from you and we
- 8:00are ready to listen. Please reach out to us, Mommy,
- 8:11if you are hearing this. You are a strong woman.
- 8:16You are God's precious daughter, Nancy.
- 8:22We believe and know that even in this valley, He is with you.
- 8:29Everyone is looking for you, Mommy, everywhere.
- 8:34We will not rest, Your children will not rest until we are
- 8:39together again. We speak to you every moment and
- 8:45we pray without ceasing, and we rejoice in advance for the day
- 8:52that we hold you in our arms again.
- 8:55We love you, Mom. We love you, mom.
- 8:59Stay strong. We love.
- 9:00You we love. You OK?
- 9:03So that is the video that came out while we were live streaming
- 9:07last night. One of the things that Brian
- 9:09Anton reported on today, he said that over at Annie's house,
- 9:17Annie is the is the sister on the left of our screen in the
- 9:22white top glasses. They that while over at Annie's
- 9:29house, they saw team members of the FB is card team.
- 9:37And that's, I had to look that up.
- 9:40It's the child abduction rapid deployment team.
- 9:43This is this is a team that anytime there's an abduction,
- 9:46it's named child abduction. But in this case, obviously they
- 9:51this card team was seen by Brian and he reports at Annie's house
- 10:00with a tripod for like a telephone, like a like a cell
- 10:04phone and a ring light. So it appears that this video
- 10:08was probably created in coordination with the FBI.
- 10:14So that being said, that kind of tells me that there's some
- 10:19important things in here. Number one, I have discounted
- 10:24the, the, the ransom notes that were sent to TMZ and a couple of
- 10:32other local outlets. I, I've kind of discounted that
- 10:35as that's probably a hoax. I mean, why would you send it to
- 10:38TMZ? They're demanding Bitcoin.
- 10:41They're, you know, they said certain things about what she
- 10:43was wearing it. It kind of tells me that either
- 10:50we're playing 72 dimensional chess and they just want to get
- 10:54the public off of the scent of what they're actually
- 10:56investigating, which I don't think is really the the case, or
- 11:01there's maybe, maybe there is some investigative value in
- 11:09believing that she has been taken for ransom.
- 11:15I'm hoping that you guys will will interact with me over in
- 11:20the over in the live stream. Remember to put GF in your
- 11:24comment if and that will help me to to see it and I I'm not
- 11:31normally a midday live streamer. I forgot to ask you guys to tell
- 11:35me where you're tuning in from, but so many of you already are.
- 11:38Christine from Marietta, GA Tabitha says originally from
- 11:42western PA near you. Karen Spence was my school nurse
- 11:47at Clarion Limestone and I rode the school with her numerous
- 11:50times. Kirby's case is how I found you,
- 11:53and I followed you since Holland, MI.
- 11:55Now, yeah. If you guys don't know the the
- 11:57case of Kirby Carpenter, Ah, Carrie Berry 7145.
- 12:08Join in from the OV Carrie. Carrie facilitated A
- 12:17reconnection for me yesterday with my elementary school
- 12:22sweetheart. I just, I loved her so much in
- 12:256th grade. Carrie, thank you very much.
- 12:27Thanks for being here and from Orangevale representing
- 12:32Orangevale, Western Kentucky's here.
- 12:34Houston, TX. Erie, PA.
- 12:37Columbia, KY. More from Kentucky.
- 12:41I feel like we've got a lot of lot of people who are hillbilly
- 12:45watchers that also watch the show here Teo toys said I heard
- 12:51they found Brian Antons shoe prints at the scene.
- 12:54Yeah if there's no if there's no crime scene tape I I think that
- 12:58he has no qualms walking onto a scene.
- 13:02Hello from Scotland in the house.
- 13:06Grace asks how I am. I'm doing really well man.
- 13:08I'm doing really well. Thank you for asking.
- 13:13I I don't know where her dog is. I'm not sure.
- 13:16Louisville, KY in the house. Sunny and warm.
- 13:19Utah's in the house. More from Kentucky.
- 13:22Wilmington, DE, Tennessee here. Barbados, Wales, Claremont, New
- 13:28York, New Bedford, Manchester, Germany, North Carolina.
- 13:34Thanks. Thanks guys.
- 13:35I appreciate you checking in while we are waiting and we can
- 13:41hear I've got that turned down just a bit.
- 13:47I think NBC is doing a pretty darn good job of, of covering
- 13:53the case. They're they're doing kind of
- 13:55live updates. I just want to I'm going to
- 13:58Scroll down until maybe starting with today bring you over here.
- 14:08All right, so NBC reporting from four hours ago.
- 14:12Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing from her home outside
- 14:16Tucson, AZ on Sunday afternoon after she did not show up at
- 14:20church. She was last seen around 9:45 PM
- 14:23the previous night when family members dropped her off at her
- 14:25home. You know one of the things that
- 14:26I should bring up by the way thinking of this, if they are
- 14:31looking at a an abduction kind of situation, does that take?
- 14:38Today apply now and answer the. Call.
- 14:40Hang on, let me see what we the smartest.
- 14:43People on there. Know how to spot a good deal
- 14:47that's why they shop at Ollie's first.
- 14:48Oh no we've got this is funny what is happening.
- 14:53Oh I'm not I'm not signed into my premium account.
- 14:57I was I was looking at ads got to sign into the premium
- 15:01account. OK OK I fixed that anyway
- 15:03yesterday we talked about some reports from Banfield that maybe
- 15:09the son-in-law Annie's husband guy named Tomaso Sione maybe was
- 15:18being looked at as a suspect. But if we're, if we're putting
- 15:21out videos to possible ransomers from the family in connection
- 15:28with FB is card team, that probably is probably a bad lead,
- 15:32right? The whole Sione lead.
- 15:37So we'll, I don't know that that's just something that came
- 15:40to my mind, OK, going back over here.
- 15:46Pima County Sheriff's Department believes Guthrie was taken
- 15:48possibly in the middle of the night and that includes possible
- 15:51kidnapping or abduction. State and federal law
- 15:54enforcement officials are involved in the investigation.
- 15:57In a statement yesterday, the Sheriff's Department said
- 15:58investigators have not identified a subject or a
- 16:01suspect or a person of interest. Authorities previously said they
- 16:05have no credible information that Guthrie's possible
- 16:07abduction was a targeted and incident.
- 16:15Let's see. The next update here was 9:45 AM
- 16:18Eastern, so about 3 1/2 hours ago.
- 16:27Heath Janke, FBI special agent in charge, was at the Guthrie
- 16:31family home last night where the video released by the family was
- 16:34believed to have been recorded, according to two people briefed
- 16:38on the events. Ah, I thought that it was at
- 16:40Annie's house. Hanky overseas, the FBI's
- 16:43Phoenix office, which overseas its Tucson resident agency.
- 16:47Think of it as a satellite office.
- 16:50Let me just check in on. Let's see.
- 17:00I just want to come over here real quick.
- 17:10OK, well that's going. He's also the person in charge
- 17:15of the FB is role in the investigation into the Guthrie
- 17:18case and go ahead and pull this volume down again.
- 17:24So that video that we watched may have been recorded at the
- 17:30home of Nancy Guthrie. 10 O 6:00 AM today Co host Co hosts honor
- 17:38Savannah Guthrie's face amid the faith amid the search for her
- 17:42missing mom. This written by Pilar Menendez
- 17:48Melendez After Savannah Guthrie asked for prayers amid the
- 17:52ongoing search for her mother, her fellow Today Co anchors
- 17:54yesterday honored their colleagues Faith.
- 17:57All of her friends are rallying and I and know that the way that
- 18:01we can help her is to pray, Jenna Bush Hager said after a
- 18:04segment about the Guthrie family's faith.
- 18:07Here we go. Trying not to cover anything.
- 18:14Any of these microphones up. Good morning.
- 18:20I, I hope you've been kind of informed of the rules that I'm
- 18:23going to try to get as many, if not all of you opportunity to
- 18:27ask a question. But last time we tried this, it
- 18:29was just kind of chaotic people yelling.
- 18:32So I'd ask that you just kind of be patient with me, pay
- 18:35attention to the questions asked because sometimes you guys want
- 18:38to ask the same question twice and you can get the same answer.
- 18:41So help yourself get, get what you can out of this.
- 18:44I'm going to give you one question and, and a follow up.
- 18:47OK, But before we get there, I, I do have some comments.
- 18:51First of all, I I I want to begin by offering our
- 18:55condolences to our partners at the State Department of Public
- 19:00Safety's I. Noticed his badge.
- 19:02Tragically lost two members last night in a helicopter crash up
- 19:07in Arizona. So keep them in your prayers.
- 19:13Colonel Glover and his team, I'm sure, would greatly appreciate
- 19:17it. Along the same lines I think you
- 19:22all saw last night, I'm trying to speak up, not yell.
- 19:28Apparently, I talked soft. We saw last night the family,
- 19:37you know, they just hurt. Understandably so.
- 19:42And so I, I really want you to know this entire team here,
- 19:49those behind me and our community are hurting with you.
- 19:54We, we really just want mom back, OK?
- 20:01Right now, we believe Nancy is still out there.
- 20:07We want our home, our depart, our department, the Sheriff's
- 20:12Department, along with all of our partners at the FBI.
- 20:17I've been working around the clock and, and, and we just want
- 20:23her home and get and, and find a way to get to the bottom of all
- 20:26of this just as you do. But I have other partners out
- 20:31there who have stepped up and you've probably noticed them in
- 20:33the last few days, if not the last few hours, and you'll see
- 20:36more of that. I've made a decision to contact
- 20:39our secret team. And those of you not local,
- 20:41that's our Pima Regional Critical Incident Team.
- 20:44It's made-up of law enforcement officers from this entire
- 20:48valley. Pascua Yaqui Police Department,
- 20:51Tucson Police Department, ran a Police Department.
- 20:53Oro Valley Police Department, Pima College Police, Tucson
- 20:57International Police Department, Sarita Police, So many of them.
- 21:01And they are going to help us tremendously.
- 21:05And that that's really done because we, we have so much in
- 21:08front of us still. And we're hoping that, you know,
- 21:10I know the, the, the FBI has committed a very large number of
- 21:15men and women to partner with us, work side by side with us.
- 21:19We go do an interview. They're going to be there with
- 21:21us. We, we're going to go look at
- 21:24some evidence or process evidence.
- 21:25They're going to be right there with us.
- 21:27We're sharing every piece of information, all the data we can
- 21:31to get this thing solved. It's important that my partners
- 21:35in law enforcement know and understand their roles because
- 21:39it is very large, complex investigation with a lot of
- 21:44moving parts. And it's, and we're at that
- 21:47phase now where sometimes we're, we're, we're, we're, we're
- 21:51waiting, right? We're waiting for analysis.
- 21:53We're waiting for lab reports. But even then, when they come
- 21:57back quickly, for example, some DNA, we rushed what we thought
- 22:01was the best target for DNA. We did a rush through and, and
- 22:06got some of that back. The, the results were minimal.
- 22:09I think you all know the, the, the blood on the porch, that was
- 22:14one we did it, it, it came back to Nancy.
- 22:18That's, that's what we know. But there's still more items
- 22:22that have been submitted. We just haven't got them back
- 22:25yet. But in the meantime, we're not
- 22:27just sitting on our haunches waiting.
- 22:29We do have a number of leads coming in and that's why we
- 22:32brought in that BI for one, but P crit as well to be able to get
- 22:37out there and have there and handle these leads as they come
- 22:40in as quickly and as expeditiously as we can.
- 22:43And every single lead is looked at, every one of them.
- 22:47And so we're, we're, we're gearing up.
- 22:50You probably have some questions about what you've seen the last
- 22:52couple of days. I'll gladly answer those at that
- 22:55time, but it really is about getting our partners out there.
- 23:00To be fair, when we went to that scene the first night, Saturday
- 23:03night, it was just us. Since then, the FBI and others
- 23:08have asked can we go and and see it as well?
- 23:11And that's what you've been seeing.
- 23:13But it is a very important case to not just me and my team, but
- 23:19this entire community, all of our law enforcement partners,
- 23:24suspects. I know there's been a lot out
- 23:28there about suspects. And I want to be very clear at
- 23:33this time, we have not identified A suspect or a person
- 23:37of interest in this case. We are working our best to do
- 23:40that. But to be clear, we have nobody
- 23:45of interest or any suspects that you would consider a prime
- 23:48suspect. We're just not there.
- 23:51We're not there yet. The timeline, I think we've got
- 23:57it on the board, do we not? This is a timeline that we have
- 24:02been able to develop with some of the things that we've had
- 24:04processed various pieces of, of electronics that we've gathered.
- 24:11And, and you look at some of this and I know you're going to
- 24:14say, well, why did it take you so long to get this to us, Cher?
- 24:17Well, because one thing, it's got to go out and be processed
- 24:20at different lab sites. And sometimes that stuff comes
- 24:23back to us and like you, we have questions and we say, wait a
- 24:27minute, what is this about? What?
- 24:29What about this? Could it be that?
- 24:31And so it's sent back or it's sent somewhere else.
- 24:34So and that's happening with all of the things we see that
- 24:39process, that review and that questioning of all right, what
- 24:42is it we're looking at? So I'll go over it with you.
- 24:46You can see it on the board there.
- 24:47But at about 5:32 PM, these are approximate times, 5:32 PM Nancy
- 24:54travels to the to her local family's home for dinner and,
- 24:58and playing games with the family just visiting at 9:48 PM,
- 25:04which is very consistent to what we were told by the family that
- 25:08Nancy was dropped off at home. And we, we, we know that because
- 25:12we have a garage door open at approximately, I can't stress
- 25:16that enough, at approximately 9:48 PM, at 9:50 PM, that garage
- 25:23door closes, which is that time we assume that Nancy's home and
- 25:27probably going to bed. Sunday morning, early morning at
- 25:321:47 AM, doorbell camera disconnects.
- 25:39At 2:12 AM, software detects a person on a camera, but there's
- 25:45no video available. They had no subscription and
- 25:49therefore it would rewrite itself kind of, it just kind of
- 25:53loops right and covers up. That's what our analysis teams
- 25:57have told us. We're not done with that.
- 25:59We'll do all we can, but that's what it says.
- 26:03So detects a person on camera. Could that be an animal?
- 26:07I I imagine that's possible. We don't know that we we just
- 26:10have no video, but we're not giving up on that. 228, Nancy's
- 26:16Pacemaker app shows that it was a disconnect from the phone.
- 26:22And at 11:56 AM, the family checks on Nancy, discovers her
- 26:30missing and at 12 O3 PM, 911 is called in to the Pimp County
- 26:36Sheriff's Department. I believe it's about
- 26:39approximately 10 minutes later, 12 minutes later, our patrol
- 26:42teams arrived. They see the scene and we start
- 26:44our response with our search and rescue teams and our detectives
- 26:48from homicide and various units. In fact every unit here.
- 26:52I, I think somebody questioned what, how come there's an IKEK
- 26:55member out here or this member every, everybody in our criminal
- 27:01investigations team is a part of this team and part of this
- 27:04investigative effort. I think with that, let me make
- 27:11sure. Now I want to clarify some
- 27:19things that I may have already done.
- 27:21But yeah, I've gone over with the blood at the front door, the
- 27:25doorbell camera, It, it, it was removed.
- 27:28We know that, but we're not confirming that any cameras were
- 27:32smashed or destroyed around the house.
- 27:35I don't know where that came from, but that's something.
- 27:38We're not confirming the car, the, the, the car that was at
- 27:43the home. It's just standard investigative
- 27:46practices. It's part of the search warrant
- 27:48scene, court orders. We, we pull it out of there and
- 27:52do our proxy processing with the vehicle.
- 27:56Uber. We did speak to a driver because
- 27:59Nancy we learned had been taken the Uber to the family
- 28:04residence, the the daughter for dinner and we located that
- 28:10driver and spoke with them and, and got that information.
- 28:17You guys got this. I think conducting follow up, I
- 28:24think you said that somebody had mentioned that they saw a team
- 28:27out there again last night or yesterday and it was, that's
- 28:29just again, what I was talking about before.
- 28:32Our partners wanted a chance to see it and, and, and examine
- 28:36things themselves. And more importantly, it's just
- 28:39we, we're constantly following up on things and go, hey, what
- 28:43about this? So we want to go back and check
- 28:45on some things. I, oh, here's the other thing
- 28:53someone had mentioned there was sports for Stan Tree.
- 28:56I have no clue where that comes from.
- 28:59We have been very consistent. We are not discussing that at
- 29:02all, whether it's forced entry and not forced entry, that is
- 29:06something we're just not discussing.
- 29:08So I don't know where anybody got that information.
- 29:14I think I am about done with my piece of this.
- 29:19I'm going to introduce bring up here Heath Yanki and, and you
- 29:24know, Edwards is the assistant agent in charge with the FBI
- 29:28here at the Tucson office. Keith Yankee is the special
- 29:32engine in charge for the state of Arizona out of Phoenix and he
- 29:36will come up and speak. Thank you, sheriff.
- 29:43Hello, I'm Heath Yankee. The special Ed in charge of the
- 29:46FB is Phoenix division. First, I want to let the Guthrie
- 29:49family know that our hearts are heavy for them.
- 29:53After seeing your message last night, it is clear that you and
- 29:56your family are in pain. Please know that we are doing
- 29:59everything That's fine. Bring your mother home.
- 30:03The FBI is now working this case jointly with the Pima County
- 30:06Sheriff's Department and we're going to start today by
- 30:08announcing a $50,000 reward for information leading to the
- 30:13recovery of Nancy Guthrie and or the arrest and conviction of
- 30:19anyone involved in her disappearance.
- 30:21And this will be the missing persons with the reward that
- 30:24will be going out. The FBI has agents, analysts and
- 30:29professional staff employees working day and night with our
- 30:33partners at the Sheriff's Department.
- 30:35We have deployed additional intelligence and agents from our
- 30:38Phoenix office. We have brought in our Critical
- 30:41Incident Response group from Quantico, VA.
- 30:44Members from our cellular analysis survey team are here
- 30:48and they continue to collect and process digital information.
- 30:53We are actively reviewing and analyzing information from all
- 30:57digital sources, which includes banks, social media companies,
- 31:01phone companies and any other organizations where a digital
- 31:05footprint could have been captured.
- 31:09All this information provides data points and helps put the
- 31:12picture together, and we will be in the community continuing to
- 31:16conduct a thorough investigation with our partners.
- 31:19You heard about us out there last night.
- 31:21We will be back out there today. I would ask the media give our
- 31:25investigators the space to do their jobs while they're out
- 31:28there. Next, regarding the ransom
- 31:30letter, we are aware of a ransom letter that was sent to the
- 31:34local media and then to national outlets.
- 31:37As with every lead, we are taking it seriously.
- 31:42We are in communication with the family and while we advise and
- 31:46recommend from a law enforcement perspective, any action taken on
- 31:50any ransom is ultimately decided by the family.
- 31:55Thank you to those in the community that have called in
- 31:58tips. For anyone out there that may
- 32:01have information, no matter how small you think it may be,
- 32:05please report it. You can do so by calling 1800.
- 32:09Call FBI or online at tips.fbi.gov.
- 32:14My next message is to those imposters who are trying to take
- 32:18advantage and profit from this situation.
- 32:21We will investigate and ensure you are held accountable for
- 32:25your actions. We have made one arrest related
- 32:28to an imposter ransom demand and a complaint will be presented to
- 32:32a Magistrate Judge later today. You will get more on that from
- 32:36the FBI and our US Attorney's Office here in Arizona when it
- 32:41becomes available to anyone that may be involved.
- 32:46Do the right thing. This is an 84 year old grandma.
- 32:53This is an 84 year old grandma that needs vital medication for
- 32:57her well-being. You still have the time to do
- 33:00the right thing before this becomes a worse, much worse
- 33:03scenario for you. Please return Nancy home.
- 33:08Thank you. I I like I've liked this so far
- 33:14OK. So the first person we're going
- 33:16to start with the list is going to be NBC National List.
- 33:19Right here. Can you?
- 33:21Walk us through that timeline from when you believe, if you
- 33:25look at this here from 1:47 to 2:28, what you think happened
- 33:29there and what particular software would have detected
- 33:32somebody on camera? Yeah, I, I, I don't, I, I know,
- 33:38we know the software that was there.
- 33:40I, but I'm, I'm not, I'm sorry, I'm just not in the weeds.
- 33:43I know that that think of your doorbell cameras.
- 33:48Somebody walks up at mine, my wife's, if I walk up, she gets
- 33:53an alert and it's usually something like that, a person's
- 33:57detective, so. To understand that we call 1,
- 34:00does that mean that it was about a 45 minute span that this
- 34:02suspector suspects would have been on the property?
- 34:04And then also, does this essentially mean that you've
- 34:07cooperated with the tech companies and you can officially
- 34:09say that no surveillance video is available from?
- 34:11Home we know that the the tech company that we sent that camera
- 34:15off to yes they've said they've they've they've run out of ways
- 34:19to recover any video next. Person next person is going to
- 34:24be ABC. News Erin Kotarski Yeah, I, I,
- 34:28I, I'm sorry, was what, 45 minutes?
- 34:3145 minute span that somebody would have been on the property,
- 34:33then from 1:47 to. 228, yeah, I think those times are speak for
- 34:37themselves and it is about like I say, those are approximates.
- 34:41So yes, I'm sorry, who was next? What you said, ABC.
- 34:45News. Hi, Sher, thanks very much.
- 34:48Is there information that you are purposely withholding
- 34:53because of the active investigation that might be
- 34:56leading you in a particular direction?
- 34:59You know, this is no different than any criminal investigation
- 35:02that we conduct here. That's a dumb.
- 35:04Question law enforcement has conducted investigations since
- 35:091865 here in Pima County. We we're, we're always mindful
- 35:15of what it is it's in front of us and what we should release
- 35:19and and can release. There's, there's legal
- 35:22guidelines that, that guide us, but there's also strategy too.
- 35:27So, you know, I'll, I'll leave that for you to determine.
- 35:31Now that you are having such an injection of manpower from the
- 35:35FEMA critical incident team and the FBI, which is slow to bring
- 35:39that in at the outset, should all of these resources been
- 35:43brought to bear sooner? I guess that I, you know, it's
- 35:48Monday morning quarterbacking. I do it all the time.
- 35:50So you have the opportunity to do it for me.
- 35:52I'll, I'll take that hit. CBS News Jonathan Migliotti
- 35:58Sheriff over here has there been any proof of life and has there
- 36:02been any signs of. Life I'm going to anything to
- 36:08deal with the ransom notes and that I would defer to the FBI.
- 36:12But no, to my knowledge, we're still looking for Nancy.
- 36:16And for my follow up question, if I can speak with this Special
- 36:18Agent, what was it about this apparent ransom note that now
- 36:23three days on you first haven't been able to validate and 2nd,
- 36:28it warranted informing the Guthrie's of its existence?
- 36:32So the the ransom note that was sent out there, obviously every
- 36:35lead in this case we are taking extremely serious one is
- 36:38presented. To the family.
- 36:41Why this one? Because this was the ransom that
- 36:43came in and it had facts associated with a deadline with
- 36:46a a monetary value they were asking for.
- 36:49So at that point, what? Were some of those facts if if
- 36:51you can, because there's been a lot of speculation as you know,
- 36:54if you can set the record. Straight, yeah, the ransom
- 36:57itself, one talked about an Apple Watch and one talked about
- 37:01a floodlight. And we're not going to go into
- 37:03specifics. It's very important that we keep
- 37:06this investigation moving forward and we don't want to put
- 37:09more facts out there that others then can use to try to profit
- 37:13from this. Who?
- 37:14Else we know who else? We know.
- 37:16Next, Ed Lavandetta. Hey, agent, I want to follow up
- 37:19with you real quick on that. The there have been as far as we
- 37:23know, I think 3 ransom notes so far, one arrest.
- 37:27Are they, are they all different?
- 37:29Do you think there's different authors behind all of them or?
- 37:34So the the one that went to the media is the one we are
- 37:37currently investigating and and working on the imposter that I
- 37:41talked about where an arrest was made early this morning, that
- 37:44there will be more information. And we believe there's no
- 37:46evidence to connect this to Nancy's case.
- 37:49It was someone that was trying to profit from it, A total
- 37:52imposter. And Sheriff, you started off the
- 37:55press conference by saying we believe you believe that Nancy
- 37:58is still out there. Do you have reason to believe
- 38:01that she's still out there alive?
- 38:03Or are you fearful of the worst case scenario here that she hope
- 38:06you found a lot? Well, I'm, I'm certainly fearful
- 38:09of that. I think we all are.
- 38:11But it is, it is We operate from a position that until we know
- 38:16she's out there, she's alive, and we're going to continue
- 38:19thinking that way until we find her.
- 38:21Fox Digital. Mike Reese.
- 38:23Yeah, Sir, Michael was Fox Digital Sheriff.
- 38:26You said you've identified no suspects.
- 38:28Have you ruled out anyone she was with on Saturday night?
- 38:32You know, we've talked to so many, I'm sure that my
- 38:34investigators have feelings about this one's clear or this
- 38:37one isn't, but, but no, I, I, I wouldn't say anybody's ruled out
- 38:42yet because what if, what if I rule you out and then later I
- 38:45learned something else, No. So my follow up, you mentioned
- 38:49that you don't know where the recording of a forced entry came
- 38:52from. Do we know how whoever did this
- 38:54got into her house? That that that I would not
- 38:59discuss with you anyway. Fox News Almora.
- 39:04Question for Agent Edwards, if I may.
- 39:07Agent Edwards, will the Bureau be submitting the DNA for
- 39:11investigating genealogical investigation relative to maybe
- 39:16getting relative to somebody if you want.
- 39:21I would say the DNA aspect of this case is being handled by
- 39:23the Pima County Sheriff's Department right now.
- 39:26However, should we get to that point, yes, that would be an
- 39:28option for the FBI to assist. And a quick follow up.
- 39:31Well, does the ransom note that you're working?
- 39:34Establish. Any communication protocols?
- 39:44Hold on. If someone has Nancy and is
- 39:47demanding the ransom that there is communication with the family
- 39:53we talked about there is has been no proof of life and there
- 39:56was no other demands within that letter.
- 39:58So they're still waiting for communication.
- 40:03ABC affiliates. Ashley Holden.
- 40:06Right here actually. When you see the doorbell camera
- 40:10was disconnected, do you believe that that camera was?
- 40:13Taken. We do not have it in our
- 40:16possession. We've not located and.
- 40:19Then a follow up. I know that we've been hearing a
- 40:21lot about ransom notes. You were also hearing in that
- 40:25video that was put out by just got three siblings.
- 40:27And I don't know if there's a question for the FBI or
- 40:30yourself, but the challenges of of seeing an image and knowing
- 40:35that it's real. Who wanted to address that?
- 40:37Has the family received correspondence in images,
- 40:41videos. So we're not going to go into
- 40:45facts regarding this part of the investigation.
- 40:48I think part of that message was with AI these days you can make
- 40:53videos that appear to be very real.
- 40:55So we can't just take a video and trust that that is a proof
- 40:58of life. These days, because of the
- 41:00advancements in AI and trying to actually get a proof of life
- 41:05that we can verify, but we're not going to go into anything
- 41:07the family may or may not have received.
- 41:11AOLD Catherine Patterson So in regards to a timeline on that
- 41:15ransom note, is that being an impact in your investigation?
- 41:18Are we nearing that timeline? I'm I'm sorry, one more time.
- 41:24So in regards to the timeline in the ransom note, are we nearing
- 41:28that timeline and is that playing a part in the
- 41:31investigation? We're not going to go again into
- 41:34specifics of that part of the investigation with the ransom
- 41:37note other than what we put out there were we've been
- 41:39transparent we're we're talking about, we are are working that
- 41:42ransom demand, but we don't want to go anything further than that
- 41:46that couldn't could impact any opportunities.
- 41:50So. Thank you.
- 41:50Is there any additional physical evidence at the crime scene
- 41:53other than the technology that you guys are using for this
- 41:56timeline? Is there anything else that's
- 41:58helping you guys other than really the technology?
- 42:02Well, I think I said on day one is that it's technology that's
- 42:05going to really help us solve this case.
- 42:07But no, I mean, you know, we, we, we did do process of that
- 42:14scene for biological evidence. So we're still hopeful that
- 42:17maybe something will show up there as well.
- 42:20Arizona. Republic Richard Rella Brady
- 42:24Yankee we saw on the scene, I believe it was you taking a
- 42:26tripod to the home of the system.
- 42:29How involved was the FBI if at? All thank you.
- 42:32Good question. Video Any advice for?
- 42:36The family, I would say we use our expertise and provide
- 42:39consultation and advice any time a family would ask for our
- 42:43advice in a kidnapping. It's ultimately the family's
- 42:46decision of what they put out and any messages they put out.
- 42:49But we were obviously you're all documenting every move we make.
- 42:53We were there last night and and talking with the family but all
- 42:59every decision is theirs. Right, that was a tripod in a
- 43:01ring light. It sure does.
- 43:03You've said the blood was found on the porch and on the front
- 43:05scoop. Just wanted to verify that I it
- 43:08I say porch front scoop, it's all in that same general area by
- 43:11the front front of the house, front door, yes.
- 43:14What given her medical condition and the fact that was her blood
- 43:18as you say, what what would her medical condition do with her
- 43:22recovery if she be bled out or was bleeding when she left the
- 43:26house? Well, again, I've got to be
- 43:30careful for HIPAA, but I would say this, we know she had it is
- 43:33in need of medication, daily medication.
- 43:36And we also know that this is day four or five and still we
- 43:42don't we don't know that she's getting her medication that that
- 43:45that could in itself proof fatal and.
- 43:48For the. No, no for the.
- 43:50Recent for K Gun News. We have.
- 43:51I'll be. There, I'll be there for you.
- 43:54I'll be. There, Craig K Gun, have you
- 43:58been? Have you been in communication
- 43:59with anyone who you believe could be?
- 44:06You know, it goes back to what we talked about.
- 44:10Nobody's eliminated, but we just really don't have enough to say
- 44:15this is our suspect. This is our guy we know or our
- 44:18gal. We just don't know that.
- 44:20And and it's really kind of reckless to report that someone
- 44:24is a suspect when when they could very well be a victim.
- 44:30It just, I, I bring to you to the media, I plead with you to
- 44:36be be careful of what it is we put out there because we don't
- 44:41have anybody here listed as a suspect.
- 44:45And you could actually be doing some, some damage to the case,
- 44:49but you can do some damage to that individual too.
- 44:52This is social media is kind of a kind of an ugly world
- 44:56sometimes. And how far out have you
- 45:00expanded your search, you say? You know, I, I would tell you
- 45:04this, look, nothing's off the table.
- 45:06If we get a lead that there's somebody, hey, you've got this
- 45:10over here or over here, we're going and that will will expand
- 45:14and expand, expand. I think the, the FBI with their
- 45:18billboards, they're now planning to put those up at every state
- 45:22around here that all of our neighboring states.
- 45:24So yeah, we, we use you, the national media, the FBI with
- 45:30their national outreach to to affect that for us.
- 45:35But as far as the actual investigation, naturally the
- 45:38home, the scene is the primary and we just keep spreading it
- 45:42out as we get more and more leads court.
- 45:45TV Cody Thomas. Actually, my question is for
- 45:49Asian Yankee. You know, we saw Savannah
- 45:52Guthrie and her sibling family put out that video last night on
- 45:55Instagram addressing, you know, the tragedy that this is, but
- 45:58also addressing the ransom letter saying they're ready to
- 46:00talk. My question is, did the FBI or
- 46:03any other agency help them craft that message to put out on
- 46:05social media? Like I I said to the previous
- 46:08question, we have an expertise when it comes to kidnappings and
- 46:12when families want advice, consultation, expertise, we will
- 46:16provide that. But the ultimate decisions on
- 46:19what they say and how they put that out rest with the family
- 46:22itself. And as far as suspects, I know
- 46:25we haven't identified one, but what type of suspect or suspects
- 46:28do we think we're dealing with here?
- 46:31At this. Time.
- 46:32That's a novel question. Good job.
- 46:34There is no primary suspect identified so it could run the
- 46:38game, so thank you. Annex for a.
- 46:40Haters. Are you actively investigating
- 46:43the the son-in-law in this case and there were reports earlier
- 46:45this week and you refuted that you said you haven't eliminated
- 46:48everybody. Have you eliminated him or come
- 46:51close to it, or are you actually looking?
- 46:52At him, we're actively looking at everybody we come across.
- 46:56In this case, everybody it it, it we would be irresponsible if
- 47:02we didn't talk to everybody. The, the Uber driver, the, the
- 47:06gardener, the pool person, whoever, everybody, it's so
- 47:10cliche, but everybody's still a suspect in our eyes.
- 47:13That's just how we look at things and think as, as cops.
- 47:17Does that mean we have a prime suspect?
- 47:19No. And, and, and the family's been
- 47:21very cooperative. Very they've, they've, they've
- 47:25done everything we've asked of them.
- 47:26And, and we want that relationship to all continue.
- 47:31And sometimes people can be mean out there and, and, and that can
- 47:37really harm us and harm our efforts.
- 47:40Did you find blood anywhere else in the home besides the porch?
- 47:43We, we, we, the only DNA evidence we've got back is on
- 47:48the porch. We look, we prioritize things
- 47:51and, and we rush things and, and those items we put out to a lab
- 47:55to rush it. And even then it's two or three,
- 47:58four days. The other items could take 10
- 48:00days, 20 days. But we saw the importance of
- 48:03that blood. He came back to Nancy.
- 48:06Only there it wasn't anywhere else in the house.
- 48:08I, I don't know that we, we, we processed the house for
- 48:11biological Evans and we've not gotten any feedback.
- 48:14News Next. Sarah Williamson.
- 48:16Hi there my. Question is just piggybacking
- 48:18off our colleagues here about how far this search has gone
- 48:23when it comes to doorbell cameras.
- 48:24You say technology plays a critical role in this.
- 48:26Have you been actively going off in the neighbors and businesses
- 48:30and collecting those doorbell cameras and is there anything
- 48:33that hasn't come up there and how far is?
- 48:35That I, I, I, I can't tell you whether things have come up or
- 48:38not, but we have door to door. I think we're still doing door
- 48:43to door it not just in that neighborhood, but other
- 48:46neighborhoods just as leads come in and take us somewhere.
- 48:51We're going to do those things, OK.
- 48:52And just to follow up as well in regards to the video that was
- 48:55released by Nancy Guthrie's children last night just to.
- 48:58Clarify. That was not coordinated with
- 49:01any law enforcement beforehand and that you hadn't seen that
- 49:04video before it was. Released the the the FBI is
- 49:09handing all things with the ransom I I think the answer was
- 49:12yes we were there the media was there we can help coordinate
- 49:17provide that consultation, but that is the family's decision of
- 49:21what they film and what they put out Fox and.
- 49:23Justin. Agent Yonky, this one's for you.
- 49:27Following up on that video that was released yesterday, it said,
- 49:30you know, ultimately any further action is decided on by the
- 49:34band. And since then, have they
- 49:36expressed, expressed any more interest in more efforts to try
- 49:39and get in contact with who is behind the random letter?
- 49:42And do you have a crisis or any sort of hostage negotiator with
- 49:47your team for that type of situation if it moves forward?
- 49:51So the two parts of that question of I, I think it's
- 49:54pretty clear the family wants to be contacted.
- 49:57They know time is of the essence and if those that may have Nancy
- 50:02are watching this, the family is ready to talk, get proof of life
- 50:06because there has been no contact after that ransomware
- 50:09note or ransom note went to the media.
- 50:12For your second question, yes, we have crisis negotiators that
- 50:16is part of our team here locally along with the personnel we
- 50:20brought in from Quantico and they will be part of it.
- 50:22But we're not going to go beyond that of of any specifics,
- 50:25Sheriff. Nanos taking down the Chrysler
- 50:28perimeter after Monday's investigation and really opening
- 50:31access to that property to to everyone else.
- 50:34Was that something you would do differently looking back,
- 50:36knowing that, you know, federal authorities also conducted a
- 50:40search yesterday? Would you have kept that
- 50:43perimeter? Up, you know, Monday morning
- 50:46quarterback, I probably would have, but I'll say this.
- 50:49We processed the scene. We didn't, we got what we
- 50:52thought was complete. My my team did that.
- 50:56I have to have all the faith and trust in their abilities and and
- 51:00their skills. And I think they went through
- 51:01that pretty well. But because another agency now
- 51:04steps in and wants to assist if they we're, we're just like with
- 51:09you, we're an open book. Absolutely.
- 51:11How can we help? One of the things people don't
- 51:14see, I, I heard your question about, you know, and, and if we
- 51:18left and then others can walk up, you know, when we process a
- 51:22scene and we're done, we return that scene to the, in this case,
- 51:25the homeowners, the family. And we don't just go March back
- 51:31in there. We call the family again and get
- 51:34permissions to go back to the home.
- 51:36So, yeah, there's again the money morning quarterback,
- 51:40absolutely, I probably could have held off on that.
- 51:43We, we knew that the FBI, we've worked with them before in a lot
- 51:48of cases and we felt like they could be of help in this with
- 51:52particularly the forensic analysis we use in, in a number
- 51:55of things. But we, at the start of this
- 51:59thing, we weren't sure what we had.
- 52:02And as the day progressed, we realized that there's, there
- 52:05could be more to this. And we started in, in that.
- 52:09Remember, it was a search and rescue mission the first few
- 52:12hours and we transitioned that over to a criminal investigation
- 52:17with that brought in our partners from the FBI and
- 52:20others. Have you heard from President
- 52:22Trump? I was actually going to ask.
- 52:25About that, we saw the message. Are you next?
- 52:29Yeah, yeah, yeah. Following up on that, we saw the
- 52:32message for the president yesterday.
- 52:33Have you personally received? Any.
- 52:35Communication from him or no, no, and I wouldn't expect that
- 52:39He too is a busy man, right? And I, I would say this, we
- 52:43thank him for him opening up his entire law enforcement team as
- 52:48was was put out yesterday. And, and we know, you know, I
- 52:52know my local reporters here know we've always worked well
- 52:56with all of our partners in law enforcement.
- 52:59Maybe it's something unique to Southern Arizona and the rest of
- 53:02the country doesn't see that. But this isn't new for us.
- 53:06We've we've done this. Gabby Giffords, I headed up that
- 53:10investigation many years ago and we worked side by side.
- 53:14Could not have got things done if we weren't with the FBI on
- 53:18that. And just the other question,
- 53:20this being a border state, have you guys had any communication
- 53:23with Mexican authorities? I I have not like I I work
- 53:29closely with the Mexican consulate as other consulates
- 53:32being the sheriff. But no, I've not heard from.
- 53:35Them Arizona, What did you see on my race?
- 53:40Hi, Sheriff. My question is, do you know it's
- 53:41a two-part question? Do you know what?
- 53:43Medication nasty uses and have you checked the?
- 53:46Local pharmacies or pharmacies around the state where they.
- 53:49Plot. That's a great question.
- 53:51He's going to. He's going to invoke HIPAA.
- 53:52Why? We still invoke for.
- 53:54Her so we we do know what medications and we have
- 53:58contacted pharmacies probably need to go back to just make
- 54:03sure that they didn't maybe maybe we contacted him early on.
- 54:06I know that night, Sunday night, Saturday night, Sunday morning,
- 54:11I know we were doing all the hospital checks and that check
- 54:15was continuous every hour going back out and physically in
- 54:19person. Deputies were going to each
- 54:21local area hospital and asking them to check their their logs.
- 54:25My second. Question here is, I know you're
- 54:28looking for her. Are you looking?
- 54:31For for for a cop state now and. So is this.
- 54:33Particular area that you're focusing.
- 54:35On. Right now, well, we're, we're
- 54:39looking for her everywhere, right?
- 54:42The FBI just made a rest on a tip that we got that we thought
- 54:47there could be something here. There there's Yeah, it's
- 54:51statewide. The billboards are going to be
- 54:53out there across the country. We take the leads from
- 54:57everywhere and where those leads take us, we'll get there.
- 55:00Ms. Now, Alex. Talbot.
- 55:03It's in Yankee. Do you have any reason to
- 55:05believe that Nancy Guthrie may be being held outside of the
- 55:08country? Is that?
- 55:10Something that you've. Ruled out at this point, we
- 55:13don't have any of that information.
- 55:14We haven't ruled anything out. Like the sheriff said, we will
- 55:17follow the facts wherever they take us.
- 55:19Whether it is outside of the state of Arizona or over the
- 55:22border, we will follow the facts and go there.
- 55:25But we have no indication anything over the Mexican
- 55:28border. And you mentioned.
- 55:29On the ransom note, there were. Details about the Apple Watch
- 55:32and the floodlight. The ransom notes that were sent
- 55:34out to TMZ, are they all the. Same ransom note today contain
- 55:42the same. Details in each of those
- 55:44individual, the ones that I am tracking and aware of were the
- 55:48same that went to TMZ. Also, when did the first ransom
- 55:57note arrive? And the reason I asked was
- 55:59because the Apple Watch has been in the news and on social media
- 56:02and you could see like floodlights on video.
- 56:05So was it before those things were out in the world?
- 56:09I, I, I don't have the specific time frame as I said here today
- 56:12of what time it came in, but that you are right, anyone could
- 56:15see a floodlight hanging down, could have seen some of those
- 56:19things. But the watch has been talked
- 56:20about. So that timing is, is tricky,
- 56:24but that's why we're taking it serious no matter what and and
- 56:27following the leads on that. But I I don't have the time
- 56:30frame that the first note came in.
- 56:33It's a great question, man. He's a good reporter, Sheriff.
- 56:36In the house, were there any signs that someone tried to
- 56:38clean up or maybe destroy evidence?
- 56:42I I can't talk about the crime scene, so I'll give you another
- 56:45shot, another question. My other question is, I heard
- 56:49the agent say that it was a joint investigation.
- 56:51Now it's a other press conference.
- 56:54Yeah, Yeah, I said they were assisting.
- 56:56Is it, is it joint? Yeah.
- 56:57I mean, are both agencies in charge now?
- 57:01If you look, there's no ego here.
- 57:03We, we in this part of the country, we'll take anybody's
- 57:06help. It's not about, yeah, it's not
- 57:09about who's in charge. From day one, when we contacted
- 57:13the FBI, they were that gracious to say whatever you need,
- 57:17whatever you need. And so that's really it.
- 57:19And they, they're great partners, just as my other local
- 57:23law enforcement brother there. I didn't even have to ask.
- 57:27That's what's really amazing. I I I haven't had to call
- 57:30anybody. They've called me.
- 57:32Sheriff, What do you need, Arizona?
- 57:33'S family. Brianna Whitney.
- 57:36Sure. I know you had the crime scene
- 57:39process. You said you went back out
- 57:40there, your partners wanted to see it, but you guys were
- 57:43actively taking out evidence yesterday.
- 57:47Was there something you missed the first time, or did you get a
- 57:49new piece of information that led you to believe you needed to
- 57:52go back out and take more than you had that first day?
- 57:56You know, I know that we get information that will come in
- 57:59and this is just any crime scene that we're looking at.
- 58:02We may go out to a crime scene and think we got it all, go
- 58:05analyze evidence and something comes back and says, hey, did
- 58:09you check this? We're not gonna just say oops
- 58:12and not go. Absolutely.
- 58:15In this instance, it really was the FBI just wanted to go, hey,
- 58:19can we take a look at it? Are you?
- 58:20Worried about that being contaminated?
- 58:23You know, I'll, I'll let the courts worry about that.
- 58:26We, we'll certainly be open to the courts of, of anything
- 58:29that's been removed from that house and we follow the rules of
- 58:32law. Good for him.
- 58:33Get court orders and and go back and reapply for another warrant
- 58:37if need be. Yeah, good for him.
- 58:39We're very careful of Arizona. Public Media, Arizona Public
- 58:43Media, Lynn. Boyd, I know a lot of people are
- 58:46down on the sheriff. I think he's awesome.
- 58:50Tester Dufferin family. Dealt with any incidents,
- 58:53threats, whether it's trespassing, social media
- 58:56threats. Anything is done.
- 58:58I, I am not aware of being at that.
- 59:00I know that we as with any case, again, we would look at all of
- 59:05the background of, of calls to those families or their, their
- 59:09residents and see if there's anything there or even in that
- 59:12neighborhood. Those things have been looked
- 59:14at. I don't know of any anything
- 59:17that was reported in even the last 30 days or six days.
- 59:21Nobody's come to me and said hey, next door you had a
- 59:24burglary follow up for. For the Neighbor Club organic
- 59:27home, can you give any more details on that?
- 59:31Trusting incident. I don't.
- 59:33I don't have them. Telemundo, Jesus.
- 59:37Gonzales it's for the APII just have a question can we confirm
- 59:41if the API detector? Coming to for investigation yes,
- 59:49Director Patel is being briefed several times a day on this
- 59:53investigation back in DC. He does have a trip scheduled to
- 59:57Tucson that was pre scheduled before this.
- 1:00:00But he is receiving consistent and constant updates from our
- 1:00:02team here. He's coming today.
- 1:00:05He is not coming today. And before you go to the next
- 1:00:09one, I, I you may have had a follow up question, but.
- 1:00:13I think I overstepped you. So if you wanted to ask, I'll
- 1:00:16give you that opportunity. I do appreciate.
- 1:00:21That thank you, Sir, Absolutely thank you.
- 1:00:23At what point do you deem the ransom note not credible if
- 1:00:25there is no communication that follows up since you received
- 1:00:29it? Like what's that timeline where
- 1:00:30you say no proof of life? There's no more.
- 1:00:33This isn't credible. I think we we start to look at
- 1:00:35what the deadlines were in the note first.
- 1:00:38I think it was 5:00 today and then it had a second, second
- 1:00:43deadline after that. So we are continuing in a normal
- 1:00:47kidnapping case, there would be contact by now trying to to
- 1:00:51discuss that, but those are the time frames we're we are looking
- 1:00:55at as as we move forward are. You able to say that second,
- 1:00:58that second deadline that was? Given I don't have that with me
- 1:01:01right now. Entertainment Tonight, Denny
- 1:01:05Directo. Yes, my question actually is for
- 1:01:07aging on key. There was a report that said
- 1:01:10the. Ransom came from an e-mail that
- 1:01:12the. FBI was actually looking into
- 1:01:14that IP address. Any update on?
- 1:01:16That nothing that I can release thank you and then also you know
- 1:01:21there's also. Conflicting reports about who
- 1:01:23was the last person to actually see Nancy and drive her home.
- 1:01:26We know she took an Uber to Annie's house, but can't confirm
- 1:01:29whether it was Annie or her son-in-law came.
- 1:01:31Also, who took her home that night?
- 1:01:33I think the the timeline that the shirt provided was a family
- 1:01:36member, but just family that we're going to go with family.
- 1:01:40Record TV's Andrea Sierra. We are for National, so we're
- 1:01:46not familiar with the area. So we think that is a.
- 1:01:51Remote area. So why?
- 1:01:52My question is why so hard to track a car or something
- 1:01:55suspicious about have passed through the area at that time?
- 1:02:00How? Difficult it is.
- 1:02:01Just throwing cameras around or something.
- 1:02:04Yeah, you, you're, you're, you're talking about the
- 1:02:07challenges we face in, in some of being in a, in a rural area
- 1:02:11like this. You know, those are challenges
- 1:02:14we face all the time. We, we'd love it to have all the
- 1:02:18cameras in a what we would consider a more urban nature
- 1:02:23type area. But once you get out into the
- 1:02:26community, that's not the only part of Tucson that is that way.
- 1:02:31And we just find ways to overcome those challenges.
- 1:02:33We don't, we don't just disregard it.
- 1:02:35We still look at ways to to, to find a, for example, Ring
- 1:02:40cameras that might catch just a piece of something goes by, it
- 1:02:45doesn't catch the whole car, those kinds of things.
- 1:02:47We don't give up. We still go out.
- 1:02:53I, I keep, I mean like miles from the house.
- 1:02:58We, we have cameras all over and those things are being reviewed.
- 1:03:01Arizona. Republic, Richard Grimless I'm.
- 1:03:07A different person. What's presenting?
- 1:03:10Did. He get 2 is the second one.
- 1:03:12Was that true? Sorry, we all right.
- 1:03:14All right. Thank you guys for.
- 1:03:16Keeping us honest. No, you already asked her
- 1:03:17questions, so we're going to. Go to the New York Times.
- 1:03:21She's tough. Your question, hi, the 212, the
- 1:03:28camera that detected movement at 212, was that a different camera
- 1:03:33than the one that was disconnected at 1:47 and where
- 1:03:36was it? Pointed, we don't know that we
- 1:03:39don't. We don't know which camera that
- 1:03:41was that when we did the software it just told us that
- 1:03:46the person was detected. But I'm I'm unaware of which
- 1:03:49camera that. Was there were multiple cameras?
- 1:03:52Sure, sure. Yeah, there were multiple
- 1:03:53cameras at the home, OK. And is there a possibility that
- 1:03:56this is not a ransom situation? And if So, what else?
- 1:04:01Could it? Yeah.
- 1:04:03Your guess is good of mine. I would say absolutely.
- 1:04:05There's a possibility that this is not, not nothing to do with
- 1:04:08the kidnapping. But we cover all angles.
- 1:04:11We're not going to dismiss something until we actually know
- 1:04:14for fact that it's one way or the other.
- 1:04:18People magazine. That Danielle Doctor.
- 1:04:22So I wanted a little more clarity to follow up on his.
- 1:04:25Is there anything more you can say?
- 1:04:27Was this actually targeted or not?
- 1:04:29Do you have any? We, that's, you know, that's why
- 1:04:33we have the FBI to look at those areas where there may have been
- 1:04:37a target. Maybe it is a kidnapping.
- 1:04:40But no, we don't have anything to to rule that out or to say it
- 1:04:44it it is. And as far as the ransom notes,
- 1:04:46there's a part in there about Bitcoin.
- 1:04:48Are you looking into that now investigation?
- 1:04:51Good question. Oh, I.
- 1:04:52Love it. Part of the investigation can.
- 1:04:54You go and elaborate any further if you found anything or if
- 1:04:57there's any ties or any suspect types that.
- 1:05:00There is not at this time. I love good reporters man, just.
- 1:05:07To follow. Up.
- 1:05:08You're Joe. I'm sorry, you're Joe.
- 1:05:11Oh, I thought you said Joe. OK.
- 1:05:14To a prior question. You had said early in the
- 1:05:16investigation that authorities don't believe Nancy Guthrie was
- 1:05:19targeted. Why don't authorities think that
- 1:05:22Nancy Guthrie was targeted? Who?
- 1:05:25Who said that? She Who said they didn't.
- 1:05:27Think she earlier in the in the. Investigation.
- 1:05:30What if I said I missed I, I absolutely misspoke?
- 1:05:33I don't, I, I've never thought she was or wasn't targeted.
- 1:05:37We've always believed that that is certainly a possibility.
- 1:05:41You, you'd be silly not to take that somebody disappears in the
- 1:05:45middle of the night out there at home.
- 1:05:48You, you, you can understand where I'm coming from.
- 1:05:51But no, I if I said that, obviously I misspoke or maybe
- 1:05:55somebody misheard me, but I've never believed that she was or
- 1:05:58was not. I'm talking is.
- 1:06:00There anything more specific you can say about what you believe
- 1:06:03the motive to be for this team happening?
- 1:06:05At. This time another great
- 1:06:06question. Motive's always going to be a
- 1:06:09question, and we'll know more as we go what that motive is.
- 1:06:12But right now I my my guest work is as good as yours and.
- 1:06:17Then we also have the final one will be from.
- 1:06:23OK. So let's talk about that 5:00 PM
- 1:06:25to say 5:00 PM deadline today. Is that the deadline?
- 1:06:28OK, that's for FBI here. Can you just give us some sound
- 1:06:32on that because that's a big deal.
- 1:06:33That's within hours, about the 5:00 PM deadline for the ramping
- 1:06:36up. And then what's supposed to
- 1:06:47happen after that? Another great question.
- 1:06:52So the the ration note that was distributed to the media did
- 1:06:56make a demand for 5:00 PM today. And if if a transfer wasn't
- 1:07:00made, then I think a second demand was for next Monday.
- 1:07:04We're not going to go beyond that.
- 1:07:05What's that? What's the ration note the media
- 1:07:08received? Indicate what would happen if
- 1:07:10they didn't meet that ransom. Did they, we're not going to go
- 1:07:13into those specifics. Thank you. 5:00 PM Eastern.
- 1:07:15I'm sorry, I know it's not Arizona.
- 1:07:18It's 5:00 PM. It's 5:00 PM.
- 1:07:23And then, sorry about that. Inside Edition.
- 1:07:26Jim Murray. A special agent donkey given the
- 1:07:29fact that the FBI participated in the creation of this family
- 1:07:33video, does that suggest your belief that the author or
- 1:07:37authors of that ransom. Note good question.
- 1:07:38That have Nancy Duckley. Again, we're taking the ransom
- 1:07:43note serious and we are following that part of the
- 1:07:46investigation. And does the fact that there is
- 1:07:49a ransom that suggests to you that Nancy Guthrie was taken
- 1:07:53specifically because she's Savannah's mom?
- 1:07:55There's nothing to indicate that.
- 1:07:56Thank. You guys, so much for all of
- 1:07:59your questions. Thank you, Sheriff.
- 1:08:00Does have one more note about what happens?
- 1:08:05Next year or what doesn't happen.
- 1:08:06Well, it, it's what happens for us is we're going to continue
- 1:08:08working for for you, though, I, I hope this worked out well for
- 1:08:14you, but right now I have no plans to schedule any further
- 1:08:18press conferences unless we have some real evidence or something
- 1:08:24to bring up to you. It's it's pretty pointless to
- 1:08:27just keep hounding the same things over and over.
- 1:08:30And as as sack special agent in charge, the Yankee said, please
- 1:08:37give us some space. And that's not just physical
- 1:08:39space. Give us some space.
- 1:08:41Give my team some time because these things do take time and
- 1:08:44they are difficult and everybody out there is really working hard
- 1:08:49and mistakes are going to be made.
- 1:08:52And if I made them Maricopa, it's won't be the first mistake
- 1:08:56I've ever made. But more important than me is we
- 1:09:00want Nancy back. That's the key.
- 1:09:04So thank you very much and thank you for your concern in this.
- 1:09:08Thank you. Thank you.
- 1:09:09I really love Sheriff Nanos Other.
- 1:09:12Person that was up here, it was John Edwards, JONEDWARDS
- 1:09:19assistant. Going to pull that back, guys.
- 1:09:23I've taken notes, taken many, many notes and I think we're
- 1:09:28going to go over most of these notes tonight.
- 1:09:34Yep, I have taken many, many nuts in my handwriting is the
- 1:09:40worst, especially when I'm rushed.
- 1:09:43This is exactly, you know, it is really funny out.
- 1:09:46I have this, this what do we call this like a journal on my
- 1:09:53on my desk. This happens to be I use one of
- 1:09:57these for every murder trial that I cover.
- 1:10:00That one was the murder trial. Brandon Wells.
- 1:10:02And yeah, my, my handwriting is always horrible.
- 1:10:05I think I'm the only, but only person who understands it.
- 1:10:10See if there's anything else happening here.
- 1:10:12They're just, they're just taking pictures of the sheriff.
- 1:10:19Just want to show you guys this real quick.
- 1:10:26You know, I think I think the sheriff is well loved and I
- 1:10:29think he's respected and I think he deserves it.
- 1:10:33I think he does a very good job. I I've seen on the comments here
- 1:10:39that people saying I'm out, this is a waste of my time for me.
- 1:10:44No, for me, there was a lot here.
- 1:10:48I'm going to have to go through everything.
- 1:10:49The the P crit team is from all the other local law enforcement
- 1:10:57agencies has been activated. There's lots and lots and lots
- 1:11:00of people on this. We learned from the, from
- 1:11:07Special Agent in charge Yankee that the SAIC is in, Oh, no,
- 1:11:15he's the Special agent in charge from Phoenix, that the CIRG, the
- 1:11:19Critical Incident Response Group from Quantico is in the area.
- 1:11:23Man, we, we learned that there is no prime suspect.
- 1:11:28I reported on that last night very carefully.
- 1:11:32That was reported by Ashley Banfield.
- 1:11:36So yeah, it, it, it looks like the three notes that came in,
- 1:11:40three ransom notes came from the same author.
- 1:11:44There was an imposter that was not connected to the notes that
- 1:11:47was arrested. Yeah, there's just, there's just
- 1:11:51a lot. And.
- 1:11:52And I think that that was a very good press conference.
- 1:11:54I I don't see how somebody would come away from that going.
- 1:11:59This is a waste of time. But you know what, you're
- 1:12:02entitled to your opinion. It's totally cool, Dee says
- 1:12:05Gavin, I have a lot of respect for the sheriff.
- 1:12:06Making sure questions will be asked orderly.
- 1:12:10This is the smoothest one I've seen in a long time.
- 1:12:12Yeah. Good job and his APIO over in
- 1:12:17the corner. She wasn't taking any any gut
- 1:12:19from anybody. She was awesome.
- 1:12:25Mooney, this is a great comment. I've really never seen any law
- 1:12:28enforcement say things like if I said XYZ that I misspoke.
- 1:12:31That takes a ton of courage to do that yacht that Sheriff Banos
- 1:12:35seems to be cut from a different cloth.
- 1:12:37You just and remember the sheriff's are, are elected
- 1:12:40officials, right? And that that goes to
- 1:12:45incentives. You guys know that I am a huge
- 1:12:47fan of understanding incentives for human behavior.
- 1:12:52Most of the time that means, hey, I want to be re elected.
- 1:12:55So it has to look like I've done a very, very terrific job.
- 1:12:58He's taking a different tack, right?
- 1:13:00He's like, I'm doing my best here.
- 1:13:03This is the first time that we've had this much media
- 1:13:05attention, this much national attention.
- 1:13:07I want to give you guys as much information as I can.
- 1:13:10If I made a mistake, I made a mistake and I'll own up to it.
- 1:13:13And if you guys pointed out to me, I'll, I'll take the, I'll
- 1:13:16take the blows. And yeah, say something like
- 1:13:19that. If I said that, then I misspoke
- 1:13:21and I'm sorry. You know, that's pretty awesome.
- 1:13:24Chasing Sunshine. Sunshine says the sheriff is so
- 1:13:27empathetic. Love the teamwork.
- 1:13:29I do too. And I do love that at at least
- 1:13:35in my experience. I mean, there are, there are
- 1:13:39some notable exceptions to this in my, in my coverage of certain
- 1:13:43local crimes to me, certain local cases to me.
- 1:13:46But in my experience, the vast majority of the time, municipal,
- 1:13:51local, state and federal law enforcement agencies work very,
- 1:13:56very, very well together usually.
- 1:13:59And I think they're doing good. Christine Meadows says Sheriff
- 1:14:02was humble. Awesome man Why Sykes?
- 1:14:05I do like the sheriff as well. He answered all the questions
- 1:14:07very well. Yep.
- 1:14:08And and there were some where I was like, I can't believe that
- 1:14:11they're answering that question. I thought that they would hold
- 1:14:16that one back. Now, they did hold back on on
- 1:14:19several things, but yeah, for example, like have they been in
- 1:14:23contact with anyone they believe is the kidnapper?
- 1:14:26I thought, well, we certainly wouldn't get an answer on that.
- 1:14:29And he said no, nobody's been ruled out.
- 1:14:33But yeah, I mean, it's just I like them.
- 1:14:37So the deadline apparently for the ransom is today at 5 PMI
- 1:14:42would imagine that's probably local time.
- 1:14:46I think. I think mountain time right now
- 1:14:48is 12:15 PM, So there are less than five hours away from that.
- 1:14:53And that there is a second, second deadline of next Monday.
- 1:14:59They won't disclose if there was an ultimatum there.
- 1:15:04Yeah. So I think what we're going to
- 1:15:06do here guys, since since we've been at this for a little bit of
- 1:15:09time and I need to prepare for tonight's show.
- 1:15:12If you, if you're new to me, I typically do a live show every
- 1:15:17night, every week night at 6:00 PM Eastern Time.
- 1:15:20So that's in about 3 hours and 45 minutes.
- 1:15:23I'm going to get my notes prepared for that.
- 1:15:24Man. There were some really, really
- 1:15:26good. There's some good questions in
- 1:15:29there. Dee Parker says $50,000 reward.
- 1:15:32Now that definitely came out. Misconduct says to be fair to
- 1:15:35Ashley, she did clarify her comments said it could be prime
- 1:15:38as in last person to see her. I'm taking aside, I think that
- 1:15:42she did report it responsibly or responsibly carefully.
- 1:15:48I think she did it carefully. And yeah, but anyway, we'll be
- 1:15:53back at 6:00 PM Eastern Time for more commentary and a closer
- 1:15:58look on this case. I hope you will join me there.
- 1:16:02If you ever need to reach out to me for any reason, you may do so
- 1:16:06at gavinfish.com. That is my website.
- 1:16:09There's always a link down in the description below, but go to
- 1:16:11gavinfish.com. There is a little the wrong
- 1:16:14button. What am I doing?
- 1:16:15This one, There's a little oh, that's why that's what I was
- 1:16:19trying to do. A little icon up in the corner
- 1:16:22looks like an envelope. If you click on that, that will
- 1:16:24open a form where you can reach out to me if you have any tips
- 1:16:28or want me to discuss anything. If you have any tips on this,
- 1:16:33contact the FBI, man. Contact the FBI.
- 1:16:36Help help help them. Let's let's bring back this 84
- 1:16:41year old woman who has been missing.
- 1:16:43OK. The other way that you can reach
- 1:16:45out to me or interact with me is by clicking on this little fishy
- 1:16:49icon up in the corner that will take you to the fish tank where
- 1:16:51we hang out on the book of faces, me and 6000 of my closest
- 1:16:57friends. So definitely do that.
- 1:16:59Until then, I hope I will see you at 6:00 PM Eastern tonight.
- 1:17:05And if I do, then it's going to be great for both of us because
- 1:17:09there's a lot. There's just a lot to go over in
- 1:17:12my notes. Lot to go over.
- 1:17:15I hope to see you then. Until then, I bid you.
- 1:17:17I do. And I hope you take care of
- 1:17:19yourselves. Take care.
- 1:17:22Oh, man. Gavin, you know what I need.
- 1:17:24Javi, guys, I need Javi. Hold on.
- 1:17:26Let me take two. Take two.
- 1:17:29Until then, I bid you adieu and I hope you take care of
- 1:17:32yourselves. Take care.
