- Jamie: Hi everyone and welcome to the Unstuck Pod. very excited today to have Rakesh Sarin with with us. Rakesh has a wealth of a wide range of experience. ⁓ so I'm pretty excited to to hear from him and and and get some different thoughts. So Rakesh, welcome to the to the pod today. Rakesh Sarin: Thank you. Thank you, Jake. Jamie: ⁓ so so let me let me you know ⁓ it's hard to know where to start with you because there's so many things that you've done. But but if you were to, you know, tell people about you and start somewhere, what how would you describe yourself or describe your background to those who are listening for the first time? Rakesh Sarin: So, first of all, ⁓ thank you, Jamie, for talking to me. ⁓ ⁓ I really like name of your company, the Unstuck, your business. So let me start ⁓ with a point in my life where I felt unstuck ⁓ and ⁓ moved, know, reflected lot and moved on the on the other aspects of life. Jamie: Yeah. Rakesh Sarin: Well, about a decade back, I was ⁓ sitting in the boardroom of a company where I used to work ⁓ and handling multi-billion dollar business, and then struck me that my blood pressure and my blood level, the glucose level, were choppier than the choppiest markets. At that stage in life, I was an executive who chased and achieved all kinds of worthy goals, what professions are looking at in the corporate world. But it also came as a realization that probably in this equation I found the balance not in appropriate place. So that's where my journey of getting unstuck in a holistic manner started. And I can I can get in the details if you like. Jamie: Yeah. Well, I'd love to know the the details, right? So you start talking about you know, getting unstuck in a holistic manner, having some difficulty. I think I think everybody thinks ⁓ everything great or everything else is important until there's a health problem. And as soon as there's a health problem, then the only that matters is your health. So so let's talk I want to understand maybe you can help you're talking about I was CEO, global company, ⁓ global companies, I ⁓ you were doing all these significant things. So let's talk a little bit about what did that world look like before you had this realization and before you kind of jumped to where you are now. Rakesh Sarin: So let me give you a little background. So I have been involved in the energy transition and I've worked in the energy sector right from the molecules, where I got my grinding, grounding in Indian Oil Corporation, moved to ⁓ you as their country manager in India. ⁓ very valuable lessons, you know, for me to understand the consumers and the consumer business, and the product is not for the sake of the company, but the product is what makes a customer successful and takes care the need. So I got my my grounding and my ⁓ basics with these and then I jumped onto the ⁓ global scale. And from ⁓ hydrocarbon molecules, I shifted to electrons. So there was a tactical shift in my career. I joined a company called Watzla Corporation, are leaders in the energy business and the shipping business around the world. very valuable OEMs ⁓ and very and perfect great governance system and great products, a great offering to the to the community and the and the world. And where, you know, I was ⁓ leading the energy business ⁓ based of Helsinki towards the end of my career. And from there, I shifted to Green Electrons. ⁓ there I joined Suslone Energy, who are pioneers in the renewable energy sector, and I was the CEO. so having worked in these countries, in these companies, having businesses in all the continents of the world, starting from going Japan to going up to Argentina. you can understand that when you are managing that kind of PL, you know, your circadian rhythm goes for a toss. ⁓ You take breakfast, you know, when it is morning, not from your biological clock point of view, but in that geography, and you take a dinner when the sun sets. Jamie: Yeah. Yeah. Rakesh Sarin: So in between, you are you are traversing various time zones and you're talking to your teams, you are talking to your customers, and and naturally know it is heroic because because you're chasing the company goals, but at the same time, often in this heat, people forget about one of the most valuable companies that they also have responsibility for, and that is ⁓ U meaning Jamie: Yeah. Rakesh Sarin: Meaning the company which my persona and and body and mind. And ⁓ what I was mentioning about ⁓ the jolt I got ⁓ s about a decade back, and I thought very important to look at the company and the company together in a holistic manner, yourself as a business. Jamie: Sure. No and I No and no no I I so and and I think it's ⁓ the aha moment that you've had, right? The the the the personal aha moment. I think it's very easy to get caught up in business and work and all the important things until like you said, the really important things jump up on you. So so let me so let's let's jump forward to that because I I I do obviously that is the most important thing. So you have this moment all of a sudden your health is not what it was. Right? It's it's you're you're you're you're challenged maybe for the first time with with spit very real and very specific health challenges. So so let's talk about what did you do about that? Number one. And then number two, ⁓ how does that change your path because ⁓ you were on a path there was all sorts go all sorts of things going on that the rest of the world would look at and say, ⁓ wow, Rakesh is like super successful. It's all perfect. Everything is great. And here you are dealing with real, as you said, the the company of of you or me or however you wanted to describe it. But like challenged and then and then and then how that kind of resets who you are and where you go and what's next. So I wanna talk about that chapter. Let's go there. Rakesh Sarin: So at the intrinsic intrinsic level, we all innate intelligence, you know, and the question is that are mindful of that? So once you put your mind on that, the solutions are very simple. ⁓ and and the topmost thing that emerges in the solutions stack is that how do you prioritize? How can you create duality you know triality in terms of prioritizing things ⁓ wherein know you do not stretch out on one ⁓ aspect, you beyond a certain point. So ⁓ That's what made me think, and that's what made me research that okay, that's where I am, and the grace of God, it was not that there was any catastrophic ⁓ issue. I never got a stroke, I never got a heart attack, I never got those kinds of ⁓ severe But the realization dawned deep in me that if I don't change course, then you know it's ⁓ taking time bomb. Jamie: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Rakesh Sarin: Fortunately, I took that step before the big alarm, you know, which could have come. And you know, the diabetes, blood pressure, these are kind of silent killers. I've seen in my circle there are hundreds upon hundreds of people, you know, who are trying to put a face in front of them. But from inside, if you look at their blood chemistry, you know, it tells all the story. So what I did, I I did a lot of research, ⁓ ended up ⁓ putting myself for a two-week program in a in a wonderful wellness center in the US ⁓ called Lifeline Wellness Institute and middle of nowhere, place called Knoxville with hardly 5,000 population. And first time in my life, somebody told me that look, Rakesh, what you do is you stop taking these pills, you keep monitoring your blood sugar and BP. to the best, what I can say is that I'm an I mean to say the director of that institute, my very good friend Carl Remon, he said, to the best of my understanding, you may not need these medications again. Till ⁓ Jamie: Well, Rakesh Sarin: You keep the discipline, and that's exactly what happened. that was a changing moment in my life. And when I was graduating from there, we had a campfire, and still remember that wow, what a wonderful program you have, and I ⁓ I take on me that I'm going to pay it forward. So while I'm an energy transition guy, Having my own internal energy taking a dip. But now having seen that how the internal energy can be screwed up, I think I'm going to work on another energy transformation with a human energy transformation. And that's why I took a promise with myself. And then within six months, ⁓ started this company ⁓ WellM, Wellness Mandla. Jamie: Nice. Rakesh Sarin: in 2020 time frame. And I'm very happy that my paid forward promise to myself, you know, is is ⁓ making me again and dream big because because I've been used to the numbers like billion very easily because that's what I've been doing. And in multiple geographies. So those those things come very easy to me. And what my vision is that how can how can we impact Jamie: Yeah. Rakesh Sarin: I'm saying from my company's behalf, how can we impact the lives of millions and then millions of people around the world? Jamie: so so ⁓ is both ⁓ this is exciting and I and I and we need to hear more. So so let's talk about Wellum. so w you you talk about having the epiphany and I want to do it and I wanna pay it forward. So what is it? What does that look like? What are you doing? and then how do you start to impact all those people around the world? What does that mean? Rakesh Sarin: So you know, I've learned that there are programs wherein you can go and ⁓ get better. For example, the Lifeline program, wherein they would take the batches of ⁓ 20, 25 people for 15 days, make them you know good, and the next batch comes. So the other way is the platform approach. And you know, if you look at the mathematics, programs like Wellness Center, they are arithmetic. You can add ⁓ plus one, maybe a few more, and then that's a reach vis-a-vis a platform. If you can package that program and take it to the homes of the people on the power of ⁓ technology, then the compounding can happen at a much faster pace. Jamie: Sure. Rakesh Sarin: So my business acumen forced me to talk to Ramon. And fact, Ramon, the director of Lifeline, has also been dreaming that how can we take this program to the homes of the people, to the millions of people's lives, to have a larger impact from thousands go to millions. And then we started working, and I realized that wellness is kind of an operating system wherein you Jamie: Mm-hmm. Rakesh Sarin: Showcase to the people who want to live well, motivate them. And then it is the question of discipline and the operating system. if we can offer that operating system to the people with the help of technology and package it in a way that you can ⁓ it to the homes of the people. That's where the magic lies. That's where the aha moment lies. And that's what exactly Lifeline and us at Vellem have ⁓ created programs which can be now You know, onboarded digitally from home. So people don't have to take two weeks of ⁓ leave and come to Knoxville, but same kind of efficacy can be provided to people in their homes. And right now, I'm very happy to say that programs are already going on in the US. and you know, the human is very important in between. Jamie: Really? Rakesh Sarin: So our platform is very responsible while it is using AI, while it is using technology, ⁓ ⁓ modern age, ⁓ what is available as a boon, but we are not ignoring the human in the loop. So we have now K partners who are operating in US in different states, and right now the POC is over. Right now the K partners are multiplying, we envision to have more and more of them. But the good thing is that very busy executives can now use that operating system and better. Jamie: Okay, so mean it sounds great, it sounds exciting. ⁓ the ⁓ me ask a question about this, cause ⁓ I ⁓ ⁓ and maybe you can help me understand what the operating system is doing so that we can dig a little deeper, because one the challenges that I've always seen in medical, in particular medical, I would say it's for a lot of things, is that what is the difference between Proactive and reactive, right? So so there's a there's a significant people love the reactive, give me a pill, I'll feel better, simple, fast, right? It's it's one of the reasons that the GLP ones are have taken off so much, is because I take a pill, I stop, you know, I don't have the same appetite as opposed to exer and and I know it's not the same for everyone, changes of exercise, changes of focus. So Let's talk a little bit about Wellm you talk about a system, an operating system. People can do it on their own. So how much of this is how hard is it for them to react or to do the things that they need to do? How much of it is ⁓ is them to be proactive in terms of of using this? Rakesh Sarin: So you have said so rightly that there is a reactive, and the other one is a preventive. And Wellm, we are working on the preventive side. So instead of somebody falling from the cliff, and then we bring the ambulance, what we are saying is that you better fix the guardrails around the cliff so that something to hold on. Jamie: Right. Yeah. Ha ha ha. Yes. Rakesh Sarin: And and this preventive stuff, you know, it essentially ⁓ dawns from the nature. Because we human beings you know, have a tremendous cellular memory. We have millions of years of cellular memory, and cellular level you know, we are used to certain aspects which Jamie: Okay. Rakesh Sarin: have been coming to us over tens of thousands of years from the mother nature. What has happened is today that we have forgotten that, especially in the last maybe 50 to 100 years, we are not allowing those natural laws of well being working on us. And it could be as simple as sleep. You know, it could be as simple as eat right, as simple as breathe in the right way, as simple as exercise. The kind of food that we are having, you know. these are the kind of things which impact our organs like liver, like gallbladder, and all. So, what we do in these protocols is that we allow a person to get these very important organs to cleans and then help them how to maintain them over a period of time. So this is not a rocket science, but to do this, you know, you need a lot of guardrails, you need protocols. you know, one way of ⁓ taking care of that is somebody goes to a wellness center ⁓ and follow that. The other way is that now bring the whole package to the homes of the people so that they don't have to take leave. Jamie: The two weeks off. Yeah. Rakesh Sarin: Leave their business or their organization and can do it. And that's where you know is a is a incremental innovation, if I may say, in how are you offering that product to the people so that it is ⁓ more consumable in a more consumable format. But these are all natural stuff. Jamie: Mm-hmm. ⁓ No no and and I listen, I'm fascinated by this. Like that's part of the reason I'm asking the question is that it sounds like when I say it sounds too good to be true, so that's that I don't mean it I don't mean it's bad. I think it's great. and by the way, I have high blood pressure. So when I hear this, I'm like, Well, okay, w what are the things that could be done? And so and so when you start talking about Wellum and you talk about someone being able to take this, do this on their own. So that mean that within the same, you know, two weeks, fifteen days, they can shift their health from where they were to where they need to be? Like how how much of the movement happens during that time or is it just setting you up for what you will now do going forward? Help me understand that. Rakesh Sarin: So, Jimmy, short answer is yes. So, in two weeks, a good shift can take place, like it happened in my case when I visited Lifeline in Knoxville, six, seven years back. But the same benefits can also come while a person is taking that program from a distance. From ⁓ like we are doing this virtual meeting, so the same virtual program can be taken. Of course, with ⁓ lot of whistles and frills and daily calls and protocols the journeys on the product, and your companion on the ⁓ technology platform on the app. So these things put together, you know, once support an individual, you essentially mimic the same what you do it in a physical setup in the center. And and so we we did this for lifeline, you know, and then we realized that since our goal is to ch touch the lives of millions and billions of people, why not? We talk to other wellness providers and help them strategize, help them, you know, offer ⁓ protocols, put the SOPs in place, provide them the modern gadgets and tools, including the tools, and then help them to scale. Jamie: Okay, well Rakesh Sarin: So, can they go 100x? Can they go 1000x? Can they go 10,000x? Because often people get stuck because of the reach. So, in a way, I would say Vellum is helping in unstucking the wellness company to expanding the reach. It could be a psychologist, it could be a nutritionist, it could be like in India, we have ⁓ Ayurveda. So, how can we merge the today's current you know, the ⁓ technology, cutting-edge technology, with a 5,000-year-old system which has been researched and which is where the people have faith? So ⁓ are researching and working with a lot of such people. Jamie: Uh-huh. Rakesh Sarin: In terms of marrying the old wisdom, which is proven by the way, which is ⁓ which has thousands and thousands of research papers, and marrying that with the modern-day technology in terms of making them more efficient in terms of consumption and in terms of offering and in terms of ⁓ user experience. that's what you know, yeah. Jamie: So I wanna No I don't so I'm sorry I didn't mean to interrupt you. I I actually want to so this the promise sounds amazing and it sounds very exciting. So talk about a little bit so so the so the difference between the vision, which I think everyone can buy into, and the practical parts of this are the piece that I'm just trying to dig into a little bit. How How do you get all these organizations or different folks and you all the people, all the health care providers that you're talking about, or wellness providers that you're talking about? How do you help them equip them, get them to change the way that they've always been operating to scale that? Because it's it's one thing to say, well, we have a we have an app. It's another thing to say, Here's how you make here's how you make what you do get out to this many people. And we expand the way we think about this. So what does that look like? that task look like? Cause everybody that's listening always thinks about what a great idea. I love it. How do I get it to way more people? And you're somebody who's worked on things that are like as you said, globally in the billions. And now you're taking something that's new, that is different, and saying, We're gonna do the same thing. But from the beginning. So what does that look like? What does that task look like? How do you go about doing that? Rakesh Sarin: So so let me talk about few data points. Now there's a very strong will, ⁓ strong tailwind in favor of preventive health. So the wellness sector is ⁓ liked by people more and more. There's more awareness, and see the proof of pudding by eating it, and a lot of people are ⁓ are, know, today are the role models for that. then people see them and they get inspired, and you find that a lot of people who are coming as ⁓ plant-based and the vegans and exercise regime and ⁓ healthy diets, etc. etc. So this is a good point of time as of now in the world, as a as a business idea. Second thing is that. People always see that the physical infrastructure is expensive. Also, the people who want to come there, there is always a friction in terms of people who have to take themselves away from their place of work and then go there for a period of two weeks, three weeks, four weeks, or so. The third thing is that this also limits the business potential. You know, in in reactive ⁓ say hospitals, if someone is falling sick, he has no other way but to go to hospital. But in a preventive manner, one can always postpone you know that the equation of ⁓ important and urgent. So while it is important but not urgent, so wellness sector, I think the biggest lacuna is it is important but not urgent. Jamie: Right. Rakesh Sarin: Now, if you marry these stars together, you know there is a tremendous potential wherein, if you can package and take that offering which is available at a physical location to the homes of the people, then you can unlock a lot of potential. Also, ⁓ if can if you can use the in the right way. If you use technology in the right way, if you create a human loop in the system so that a person is not just ⁓ hanging somewhere the space, but there's a strong anchor for that. Again, through the digital mode. So a lot of stuff can be packaged and offered to the ultimate consumer. Who can get the same benefit the person would have got, you know, in wellness center. And the in the loop, like K partners in Lifeline, is where one has to necessarily go for certain assessments. But then you're going in that local geography, getting the assessment, coming back and do the protocol for one week or two weeks. We call them like detox your health or transform your health from the comfort of your home. Jamie: Mm-hmm. Rakesh Sarin: And and this this thing spreads by word of mouth because if I I well as an outcome of it, naturally I'm going to talk to people whom I love and like. So we are finding this very promising and useful, and beyond that, know, feel so happy that a 25-year-old pro-in practice. In our inner center has been now ⁓ converted in a manner in a responsible manner which can go leap and bound across the world. So this this gave a lot of motivation and a lot of ⁓ trust that if you can do on this side, why not a similar thing can be done for Ayurveda or homeopathy. Or, you know, so so you are then giving undiluted protocol to the care partners or are we the doctors who can who can offer their services in a much better manner to the ultimate client. Jamie: Fascinat. So so if ⁓ okay, so let's let's take the vision, right, that you have here, which is essentially it's transforming ⁓ you ⁓ whether we want to call it wellness or healthcare, because frankly it's the same because it becomes it takes the place of healthcare, traditional healthcare, by by being ⁓ proactive, right? So ⁓ and leveraging technology to get it to more people as early as possible. So let's Let's jump forward. It this takes off. This is working. It's working across all the different call it impact points and and areas of health that you're trying to do. What what is that wor like? Take take us forward five years, ten years, or longer. What does the world look like? What is what does success look like in this ⁓ how does it change things? Rakesh Sarin: So for me, as you visualize that the physical settings ⁓ various kinds of wellness initiatives, which in the eyes of people who want to take that are important but not urgent. So we would be able to break that barrier wherein the friction point. In people's you know life for imbibing those programs can be reduced. So the people who have not been able to take such kind of preventive programs because they are busy or because they can't leave a particular place for X number of days, now that that ⁓ barrier can be demolished. So people have choice in their hand if they want to you know get better. ⁓ they can without leaving their work or leaving their business. And by the way, in this entire practice, like in Lifeline, we are not giving any harsh chemicals or so, but we are performing some extremely important for example. ⁓ ⁓ in this we do the liver cleans. Do you know liver is the largest organ in our body and can carry 15 to 20,000 mini microstones, which are formed as a dried bile and and you know what ⁓ liver is a multi-purpose ⁓ organ in our body, it's working continuously, it detoxes, ⁓ it digests, it does so many functions, but it's often clogged. You might have heard the word fatty liver. Jamie: Yep. Rakesh Sarin: So in one week's time, we help people to get rid of that deposit. Then we also help people to get rid of ⁓ gallbladder stones. Then we help people for the colon cleans and In a week's time, when we we help in detoxifying all these major organs, so what happens is there is an energy transformation, which is my aha moment, you know. So so I do that every four to five months, this detox. So while there is an energy transformation happening around the world from fossil to green energy, but paradoxically, Jamie: Yeah. Rakesh Sarin: most of us don't know how to transform our own energy. We feel that if I'm going old, then my energy should come down. But sorry, that's not the case. Age has nothing to do with energy. What energy is you know, not a function of age alone. It is a function of how we are transforming that in our system by taking care of ourselves, by our self-love. And there are systems and processes which we can bring forward in front of the people around the world the time-tested natural laws of wellness. Jamie: This. Love it. What a great it's great. This is exciting stuff and it's transformational stuff. I love it. It's fantastic. Rakesh, please, for those who are listening, watching, how can they reach you, get like get hold of you, find well ⁓ how how how what are the how how can people get hold of you? I guess is the best way, best question for me. Rakesh Sarin: So we have our we have a website called www.co. I'll send you the link. And then you know the program which is all Jamie: No, and I I will tell you okay, that's great. ⁓ I love it ⁓ ⁓ I love it. This is fantastic. So ⁓ thank you very much for your time. This is great. and until to everybody who's watching and listening until next time, have a great day.
