- 0:08Speaker 1: we get started on She's on the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 1:00Speaker 2: for millennials who want financial freedom. Today, my friends, it's
- 1:04Speaker 2: no surprise it is Friday, which means it is time
- 1:07Speaker 2: to get our little team together and celebrate you, our
- 1:10Speaker 2: incredible She's on the Money community today, mister sy. She
- 1:13Speaker 2: is going to be sharing her favorite money wins. Beck
- 1:16Speaker 2: is going to be sharing her best broke tips, and
- 1:19Speaker 2: we'll be helping to answer a juicy money dilemma, which
- 1:21Speaker 2: this week is all about reframing your skills and getting
- 1:25Speaker 2: yourself out there we also get the opportunity to unpack
- 1:28Speaker 2: something that you slid into our DMS, about which this
- 1:31Speaker 2: week we're talking splitting cleaning costs after a party, which
- 1:35Speaker 2: I think got a little bit spicy in our DMS.
- 1:38Speaker 4: Jess, Oh it sure did.
- 1:40Speaker 2: All right, let's check in with the team before we
- 1:43Speaker 2: go any further. Beck, you're coming to us from the
- 1:46Speaker 2: Sydney Popcast studio. You're with a girl.
- 1:50Speaker 5: This is so weird.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Hey, it is very strange. What are you doing in Sydney.
- 1:55Speaker 2: You've got a big dog career moment. Yeah.
- 1:57Speaker 6: Actually, I don't know if you know it, but I'm
- 1:59Speaker 6: like rich and faith famous, so pretty much is traveling
- 2:03Speaker 6: for work. No, I'm actually traveling to see my family
- 2:05Speaker 6: and friends. No friends, actually just my family, and I'm
- 2:08Speaker 6: kind of coming to this in the office just to
- 2:10Speaker 6: meet my team some for the very first time ever.
- 2:14Speaker 6: So I thought, you know, may as well just give
- 2:15Speaker 6: it a go midyear, right after payday was kind of
- 2:18Speaker 6: the perfect timing. But yeah, this is very strange. I
- 2:21Speaker 6: kind of like it though. I kind of like it.
- 2:23Speaker 2: It's actually triggering me a little bit, Jess, from when
- 2:26Speaker 2: we would have to record, Yeah, every single episode remotely
- 2:30Speaker 2: like I just I loved it because it was what
- 2:33Speaker 2: I guess kept me going throughout COVID, being to record
- 2:36Speaker 2: and hang out with you guys online. But oh my gosh,
- 2:39Speaker 2: having you on riverside, which is like our online platform,
- 2:42Speaker 2: you could say, for recording podcasts remotely, I'm just like, what.
- 2:48Speaker 5: Got fomo?
- 2:49Speaker 2: I can't even see Jess anyway. We'll bring her over.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I'll bring her over. She can sit next to me
- 2:53Speaker 2: and you can see her, Jess as your week being
- 2:57Speaker 2: just as colorful. What have you been up to?
- 2:58Speaker 4: Oh, it's been a good week. I went on a
- 3:00Speaker 4: little weekend get away on the weekend. I saw that
- 3:03Speaker 4: very fun, arguably.
- 3:05Speaker 2: The most aesthetic weekend get away I've seen in my life.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Where did you go?
- 3:09Speaker 4: What did you do us? We went to Castle, Maine,
- 3:11Speaker 4: which I'd never been to before. I'm working with Visit
- 3:13Speaker 4: Victoria to showcase some regional little spots, which was really fun.
- 3:16Speaker 4: And I got to go with my bestie and have
- 3:18Speaker 4: a little girl's weekend and it was just super wholesome,
- 3:20Speaker 4: Like we went antiquing and had a picnic and I
- 3:22Speaker 4: fed a duck from my hand, a wild duck, a
- 3:25Speaker 4: wild duck. Yes, And before anyone comes to me. I
- 3:27Speaker 4: didn't feed it bread. I feeded a grape cut in
- 3:29Speaker 4: half sweet would be easily digestible.
- 3:31Speaker 2: I love that you know that we're at that stage
- 3:33Speaker 2: where people are going to come for you for feeding
- 3:36Speaker 2: the duck. Who bread? Yes, I didn't even know that
- 3:38Speaker 2: was the thing, but the way you prefaced it tells
- 3:40Speaker 2: me it's absolutely an issue.
- 3:42Speaker 4: There is lots of discourse online to do. Okay, I
- 3:44Speaker 4: did my research.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Okay, thank you for feeding the duck grapes. Grapes are
- 3:48Speaker 2: expensive at the moment, so that was a very big
- 3:50Speaker 2: sacrifice made by you.
- 3:52Speaker 4: Locally sourced organic grapes that we bought at the market
- 3:55Speaker 4: as well.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Okay, Well, little wholesome aesthetic life over there, who is Louise,
- 4:01Speaker 2: Let's get into it. Though. I really like ducks. I
- 4:04Speaker 2: want a pet duck. I feel like that would be
- 4:07Speaker 2: but those like what are they called, like runner ducks,
- 4:09Speaker 2: like the big white ones with the orange beaks that
- 4:12Speaker 2: look like Jemima puddle duckling. Yes, I need one of
- 4:14Speaker 2: those ones.
- 4:15Speaker 4: The market where I got the grapes, they sold chickens,
- 4:18Speaker 4: and I very nearly like baby chicks because it's like
- 4:20Speaker 4: a regional area and people have farms. I thought you were.
- 4:22Speaker 2: About to tell me they sold picking duck. Different.
- 4:26Speaker 7: No.
- 4:26Speaker 4: I nearly brought home a little pet chicken, but I
- 4:29Speaker 4: thought better of it, and it's restrained myself.
- 4:32Speaker 2: That's very good restraint.
- 4:33Speaker 5: Why didn't you buy one?
- 4:34Speaker 4: Because I have two cats and I just feel like
- 4:35Speaker 4: that might not work.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Oh, I see you can make anything work. You can
- 4:39Speaker 2: it work. I would make it work, all right, Jess.
- 4:41Speaker 2: I want to know that would have been a money loss.
- 4:45Speaker 2: But I want to know what our community have as
- 4:48Speaker 2: your favorite money wins of the week. What have you
- 4:50Speaker 2: wrapped up for us?
- 4:51Speaker 4: So my first money when this week comes from a
- 4:53Speaker 4: chantal who said I had my annual pay review, received
- 4:56Speaker 4: a ten k per year pay rise, plus an extra
- 4:59Speaker 4: week of annual leave per year. Also, I'm moving in
- 5:02Speaker 4: with my partner in two weeks, so my costs will
- 5:04Speaker 4: be cut in half. We've had a lot of discourse
- 5:07Speaker 4: lately around the pay rise, where Victoria put a video
- 5:10Speaker 4: or two on the internet and we're still getting comments.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. Beck and I were recording a deep
- 5:14Speaker 2: dive earlier today and we were talking about that. I
- 5:17Speaker 2: was like, it's a hallmark, right, like going viral. It's
- 5:19Speaker 2: not just about views, it's about how many abusive comments
- 5:23Speaker 2: you can collect in your comments section and your dms,
- 5:26Speaker 2: of which I had a plethora.
- 5:28Speaker 4: Yes, thank you for lovely random people on the internet.
- 5:32Speaker 2: It was literally my favorite. Like I just laugh at
- 5:35Speaker 2: them like it doesn't do anything and just tells me
- 5:37Speaker 2: that you're insecure, like it's true, pop off this. Thanks
- 5:41Speaker 2: for the engagement.
- 5:42Speaker 5: We're going to come for you for that one, here cha.
- 5:45Speaker 4: My next moment comes from Grace, who said I was
- 5:48Speaker 4: looking online for a new book to read, potentially spending
- 5:51Speaker 4: thirty plus dollars. Then I stopped and remembered my financial goals,
- 5:54Speaker 4: so I drove to the library and got three books
- 5:57Speaker 4: out instead. All I paid was it dollar thirty in
- 5:59Speaker 4: park money you want.
- 6:01Speaker 2: That's so wholesome and also reminds me that libraries do
- 6:04Speaker 2: indeed exist and I should utilize them and I don't.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Someone told me, I remember how a week or two
- 6:09Speaker 4: ago we were talking about how I want to learn
- 6:11Speaker 4: how to sew. Someone told me libraries have maker studios
- 6:15Speaker 4: where you can go in and access sewing machines, embroidery machines,
- 6:19Speaker 4: things like that for free. I think it's only in
- 6:21Speaker 4: larger CBD libraries primarily, but I got on Google and
- 6:24Speaker 4: there's a couple in Melbourne, and I would imagine there
- 6:27Speaker 4: would be a few in other states. So if you
- 6:28Speaker 4: want to sew but you don't want to spend on
- 6:30Speaker 4: a sewing machine.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Shape, you can borrow my sewing machine. I appreciate. I
- 6:34Speaker 2: was going to have Jess over Beck and I was
- 6:36Speaker 2: going to teach her all of the basic skills because
- 6:38Speaker 2: I actually did get this. You twelve textiles, wow, because
- 6:42Speaker 2: I just really wanted to bring my score down because
- 6:45Speaker 2: obviously the gets get marched down. Yeah, it turns out
- 6:49Speaker 2: I can actually sew wholesome sewing day at sale is good.
- 6:53Speaker 2: I think it's good, but like you're going to get
- 6:55Speaker 2: what you get and you don't get upset.
- 6:56Speaker 5: Or how that is very cute, very wholesome, better than
- 6:58Speaker 5: where I am.
- 6:59Speaker 2: I can do a kits stitch.
- 7:01Speaker 4: I don't even know where that is, so you already
- 7:02Speaker 4: thanks a kitoy. My next money when it comes from
- 7:06Speaker 4: Lauren who said I complained about a faulty product and
- 7:09Speaker 4: I got myself a refund.
- 7:10Speaker 2: When ended up with one hundred dollars.
- 7:12Speaker 4: It took me ages to get around to doing it,
- 7:13Speaker 4: but in the end it was reasonably easy and the
- 7:15Speaker 4: customer service person was really helpful.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Love what else have you got?
- 7:19Speaker 4: Jess from Angela, I have a money in that says
- 7:21Speaker 4: I had a punctuary my tire and I went to
- 7:23Speaker 4: the place around the corner from my house thinking it
- 7:25Speaker 4: would be fifty bucks. Roughly they ended up fixing it
- 7:28Speaker 4: for money win.
- 7:30Speaker 2: I thought they were going to go the other way.
- 7:31Speaker 2: That's what I thought.
- 7:32Speaker 4: We always comment on how mechanics sometimes do a bit
- 7:34Speaker 4: of a dodge when you're a woman in these cars.
- 7:36Speaker 2: See you're broken tire. We definitely can't fix you have
- 7:39Speaker 2: to buy four brand new ones. It's what I expected.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Yeah, in fact, your whole engine has falled out.
- 7:45Speaker 2: That's so weird.
- 7:47Speaker 4: Love that. And lastly, I have a money win from
- 7:49Speaker 4: Sasha who says I got this stunning vintage wooden rocking
- 7:52Speaker 4: horse for free on Facebook marketplace. Me and my three
- 7:55Speaker 4: year old daughter are very happy and she put in
- 7:58Speaker 4: a photo and I just love it when people put
- 7:59Speaker 4: photos their money. It's really cute.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Please litter our money wins thread each and every single
- 8:04Speaker 2: week with your photos. And if you don't have a photo,
- 8:07Speaker 2: just like post a selfie or something. I'm so here
- 8:09Speaker 2: for picture of your cat.
- 8:10Speaker 4: I'd love a picture of your.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Yes, cat tax. I believe that's called cat tax.
- 8:14Speaker 4: We love a cat. There's a group chat with me,
- 8:16Speaker 4: Gabby and Victoria called pet appreciation for him, and I'm
- 8:19Speaker 4: not allowed to send a text until I send a
- 8:21Speaker 4: photo of my pet first.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Yeah, like through chat. You need something for work, great,
- 8:26Speaker 2: send a picture of your cat and then we'll address
- 8:28Speaker 2: your concern.
- 8:28Speaker 6: Sorry, just we're not listening. Yeah, can't he We're not
- 8:30Speaker 6: listening until I see photo.
- 8:33Speaker 4: I'll come hold a photo in front of the camera
- 8:35Speaker 4: for you back one second.
- 8:36Speaker 2: That is actually it, Like, that's actually what happens. And
- 8:39Speaker 2: I'm not sorry about it. It's just how our business works.
- 8:42Speaker 5: I wouldn't have it any other way personally me neither.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Is that all you've got this week, Jessica, that's everything?
- 8:47Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, Well you know what that means. We
- 8:49Speaker 2: get to very subtly segue straight into Beck's broke tips.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, what have you got this week? I've
- 8:58Speaker 2: got a couple this week.
- 9:00Speaker 6: I feel as though something's biting you on the leg.
- 9:02Speaker 6: So if I seem distracted, I'm so sorry.
- 9:05Speaker 2: And Alisa get out from under the table. Ali through again,
- 9:12Speaker 2: she's actually in my studio, not yours.
- 9:16Speaker 6: Don't let the truth get in the way of a
- 9:17Speaker 6: good story. Well that's what I was so shocked about,
- 9:19Speaker 6: because she's not even here and.
- 9:20Speaker 5: She's still biting on a leg.
- 9:22Speaker 2: I don't understand all the time.
- 9:24Speaker 6: Okay, So my first broke tip of this week comes
- 9:27Speaker 6: from Laura, who says that they take a small bottle
- 9:31Speaker 6: of water. It seems like quite a simple one, but
- 9:34Speaker 6: basically you fill up your water bottle at work, which
- 9:37Speaker 6: is a money win. Because I'm sorry, a broke tip. Sorry, Jess,
- 9:40Speaker 6: I'm trying to ste your job again.
- 9:42Speaker 5: It is a broke tip.
- 9:43Speaker 6: Because it doesn't seem first of all, it's great for
- 9:46Speaker 6: the environment, and it doesn't seem like it costs a
- 9:48Speaker 6: lot of money.
- 9:48Speaker 5: But a dollar two dollars, three dollars for a bottle
- 9:50Speaker 5: of water.
- 9:51Speaker 6: Every time you're, like, you know, out and about, or
- 9:52Speaker 6: you're on the road, or you're going to work, it
- 9:54Speaker 6: adds up. It's bad for the environment. Just take yourself
- 9:58Speaker 6: a reusable bottle of water and you'll save so much
- 10:01Speaker 6: money in the long run and the environment. Single use
- 10:05Speaker 6: plastic is so twenty twenty three January.
- 10:09Speaker 4: Okay.
- 10:10Speaker 6: The next broke tip for this week is from Amy,
- 10:13Speaker 6: who says that in the winter, whenever she cooks something,
- 10:17Speaker 6: she leaves the oven door slightly open or cracked all
- 10:21Speaker 6: the way open after she's finished cooking, because then it
- 10:24Speaker 6: warms up the whole kitchen. Maybe even if you have
- 10:26Speaker 6: an open plan living area, you'll.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Heat up the whole loud room, the whole kitchen cold.
- 10:31Speaker 5: Very great idea. Don't even chuck the heater on. You
- 10:35Speaker 5: just open up your oven when you're done, so you
- 10:36Speaker 5: cook your dinner. You got a dinner there, and you
- 10:39Speaker 5: open up the oven, you heat the whole place.
- 10:41Speaker 2: That's a great idea, that's very intelligent. I genuinely never
- 10:45Speaker 2: would have thought about that. And I literally in the
- 10:47Speaker 2: winter sometimes stand in front of my oven with my
- 10:50Speaker 2: hands over the top of it because I'm cold. So
- 10:52Speaker 2: clearly I have been using it as a source of
- 10:55Speaker 2: heat for not just food, but I never would have
- 10:57Speaker 2: dragged it out into actually being I guess responsible.
- 11:01Speaker 5: Very smart, just been mindful of small children and pet please. Ah,
- 11:03Speaker 5: that's very true.
- 11:04Speaker 2: That's a really good caveat use safety first goal. I
- 11:07Speaker 2: do not even think about that unofficial you know what,
- 11:11Speaker 2: I reckon jair Spec When she was at primary school,
- 11:14Speaker 2: she was that kid who dabbed on all the other
- 11:16Speaker 2: kids for not wearing their hats at recess.
- 11:19Speaker 4: I was not, but I definitely was a bit of
- 11:21Speaker 4: a teachers pet.
- 11:22Speaker 5: I'm not shocked by that. I've got to be honest,
- 11:25Speaker 5: I don't think anybody.
- 11:27Speaker 6: I'm not shocked, but yeah, no, it feels like a
- 11:30Speaker 6: big waist of hot air if you're just closing the
- 11:32Speaker 6: Ovens Street after you don't. But anyway, so my personal
- 11:36Speaker 6: brute tip for this week. Honestly, it's not gonna be
- 11:40Speaker 6: changing the world. It's not groundbreaking, but I basically just
- 11:43Speaker 6: wanted to talk about how sometimes when I literally have
- 11:45Speaker 6: like eleven dollars left to last me the week and
- 11:48Speaker 6: I've got to pay for food, food is my main priority.
- 11:50Speaker 6: If anyone wants me to pay them back for dinner,
- 11:53Speaker 6: or if EastLink come at me with a toll invoice,
- 11:56Speaker 6: I'm sorry, I just I'm not.
- 11:59Speaker 5: I'm not doing that right now.
- 12:00Speaker 6: But what I will tell you is that a cheap
- 12:04Speaker 6: way to kind of make your money last or you know,
- 12:08Speaker 6: get as much food as you can for a very
- 12:09Speaker 6: little amount of money. I would say, obviously home brand
- 12:14Speaker 6: white bread that is about a dollar.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Beck, you have used this on the podcast. I was
- 12:20Speaker 2: going to say, you cannot tell me that you're going
- 12:22Speaker 2: to make sandwiches because you got sorry white bread? All right?
- 12:28Speaker 4: Gotchaka?
- 12:29Speaker 5: Did I say something about sandwich?
- 12:30Speaker 2: I thought she was like full broke tipping her broke
- 12:32Speaker 2: tips by reusing a broke tip.
- 12:35Speaker 4: Yeah, definitely. I feel like was that maybe the first one.
- 12:37Speaker 4: We've definitely had.
- 12:38Speaker 2: The sandwiches and you can make toast. Where are you
- 12:41Speaker 2: going with this? Beck?
- 12:42Speaker 5: No, this one wasn't about sandwiches. This is like more
- 12:44Speaker 5: of a list.
- 12:45Speaker 2: A grocery right a, right, Sorry, Sorry, I didn't mean
- 12:47Speaker 2: you are sorry. That's it. I might actually be reusing
- 12:50Speaker 2: it now. I want to hear it. I'll savage it
- 12:52Speaker 2: when you're done.
- 12:53Speaker 6: Let me know if this sounds too familiar. And then
- 12:56Speaker 6: I was going to say everything's homebrand. Let's always assume
- 13:00Speaker 6: say I'm using home brand. Yeah, bag of white rice,
- 13:03Speaker 6: one killer gram. If you do have capacity, get one
- 13:06Speaker 6: of those ten kilogram ones will lasts you a long time.
- 13:09Speaker 6: I'm also saying bassa fill it. It's a very cheap,
- 13:14Speaker 6: very delicious, very nutritional piece of white fish. It's like
- 13:19Speaker 6: often six dollars a kilo if you get one two
- 13:22Speaker 6: three fillts that if you cut the fillin in half,
- 13:24Speaker 6: I'm saying, you're gonna be hungry all week. But that
- 13:27Speaker 6: very cheap fish that is also filling, also tasty, also
- 13:32Speaker 6: good for you, will last you the week and it
- 13:34Speaker 6: will not cost you that much money.
- 13:35Speaker 2: That's really smart. And bassa when it's frozen is even cheaper,
- 13:39Speaker 2: and yea's still good when you defrust it.
- 13:41Speaker 6: Yes, don't ask me why it's cheap. I don't want
- 13:43Speaker 6: to know why it's cheap. But it is so cheap
- 13:45Speaker 6: all the time. I don't think it's even gone up
- 13:48Speaker 6: in price since I was a baby.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Let's not even question that. No people in our DMS,
- 13:53Speaker 2: they can worry about that.
- 13:54Speaker 4: I don't want to hear why the fish is cheap.
- 13:57Speaker 5: I don't want to don't yuck.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Sometimes we're asking for feedback, sometimes we're not. This time,
- 14:04Speaker 2: we're not guarantee people still like. I know you said
- 14:07Speaker 2: you didn't want to know, but I just know.
- 14:09Speaker 4: It's going to be that gives me the heavy genies
- 14:12Speaker 4: and keeps me up at night.
- 14:13Speaker 6: So you will ruin fish you will, and you'll also
- 14:16Speaker 6: ruin my budget for the week.
- 14:18Speaker 5: So and but.
- 14:19Speaker 6: Then the next thing was going to be literally just
- 14:21Speaker 6: like the biggest bag of frozen veggies you can get.
- 14:24Speaker 6: This is I'm only talking about if you're like a
- 14:25Speaker 6: single person.
- 14:27Speaker 2: What because single people they're the only ones that eat
- 14:29Speaker 2: frozen vegetables back oh that too.
- 14:32Speaker 6: But also if your child's like, you know, the only
- 14:34Speaker 6: thing they eat is nuggets, Like, I'm not condoning that
- 14:36Speaker 6: at all, but you can honestly buy big, giant home
- 14:40Speaker 6: brand bags of frozen nuggets.
- 14:43Speaker 5: Just everything frozen. Frozen is cheap. I don't you know.
- 14:47Speaker 5: There's obviously reasons why it's cheap. It's probably not the
- 14:49Speaker 5: best for you, but frozen is cheap.
- 14:51Speaker 6: Bassa phil, it's cheap white rice, get all the home
- 14:54Speaker 6: brand cheap. You know, things that you know, anything that's
- 14:57Speaker 6: feeling you just want to survive, is what I'm trying
- 14:59Speaker 6: to say.
- 14:59Speaker 7: You just.
- 15:02Speaker 2: A really good tip when you say your child will
- 15:05Speaker 2: only eat frozen nuggets. So you're talking about our co
- 15:07Speaker 2: host jessicot Rici, Yes, yeah, that's what I thought. Can
- 15:11Speaker 2: I bandwagon onto this broke tip section because I actually
- 15:14Speaker 2: have a really cheap recipe. But do you know what
- 15:17Speaker 2: I will put in the newsletter for today. It will
- 15:20Speaker 2: be my unsolicited recommendation because you didn't ask for Victoria's
- 15:23Speaker 2: broke tip, but you're getting it. And that is a
- 15:26Speaker 2: recipe for dull. Dull is one of my favorite foods
- 15:32Speaker 2: because it is just so tasty. It's basically like an
- 15:35Speaker 2: Indian style curry that is made with lentils. And if
- 15:39Speaker 2: you buy dried lentils, they are honestly cheap as chips.
- 15:42Speaker 2: And it can be so well seasoned, and you can
- 15:45Speaker 2: have that with bread, You could have it with some rice,
- 15:47Speaker 2: you could have it with some frozen mashed potato into
- 15:50Speaker 2: the Irish squacamole like.
- 15:52Speaker 4: Irish Irish coca mole.
- 15:54Speaker 2: What what is it not Irish squacamole.
- 15:57Speaker 4: Oh my god, that's the funniest thing I've ever heard.
- 16:00Speaker 4: I've never heard.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Do you know what that tells me? Beck I didn't
- 16:02Speaker 2: read it, doesn't read my newsletters.
- 16:06Speaker 4: I haven't heard you say it before.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Yeah, well, if Irish brocamlt mashed potato. Anyway, Moving on,
- 16:11Speaker 2: a dahl is such an easy recipe to make, and
- 16:15Speaker 2: you can scale it up and down for very cheap
- 16:18Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure a recipe of dahl each serve is
- 16:21Speaker 2: less than fifty cents. As you guys know, if you
- 16:24Speaker 2: read my newsletter each and every single time I put
- 16:26Speaker 2: a recipe in, I like, literally do all of the
- 16:29Speaker 2: breakdown of the ingredients, how much it'll cost. Last week,
- 16:32Speaker 2: when I recommended muffins that they're collect I broke down
- 16:35Speaker 2: what it would cost you at Cole's and it will
- 16:37Speaker 2: lose because like I was like, well, what if you
- 16:38Speaker 2: shop at a different place, You're can need these like you're
- 16:41Speaker 2: going to need this information. And then I didn't want
- 16:43Speaker 2: people to cut me off and be like, you didn't
- 16:46Speaker 2: account for the cinnamon, and so guess.
- 16:48Speaker 4: What I didn't Just you didn't.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I calculated how much cinnamon I used. Did that?
- 16:53Speaker 2: It was zero point four cents oh word for cinnamon
- 16:57Speaker 2: in my muffins last week. But you best believe I
- 17:00Speaker 2: accounted for that, because I swear every time I cook
- 17:02Speaker 2: something on the internet and I'm like, oh yep, it's
- 17:05Speaker 2: just a quick three ingredients this they're like, you didn't
- 17:07Speaker 2: account from the spices, and the spices they're for the privileged.
- 17:10Speaker 2: I'm like that bowl, that bowl you had to buy
- 17:13Speaker 2: the bowl. Oh you used muffin liners with your muffins.
- 17:16Speaker 2: That wasn't accounted to sit down.
- 17:18Speaker 4: Okay, well, we try theero point four cents of cinnamon
- 17:22Speaker 4: into our.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Budget for that, and we are all having at some
- 17:25Speaker 2: point in the next week Victoria's recipe for Dahl McCarney
- 17:29Speaker 2: because it's basically like a buttered chicken style dull. So
- 17:33Speaker 2: it tastes like buttered chicken, but there's no chicken because
- 17:36Speaker 2: that's not what I would put in my recipe. And
- 17:38Speaker 2: it's cheap as chips, and it tastes really good and
- 17:40Speaker 2: you can have it with rice, and it's honestly a
- 17:43Speaker 2: ten out of ten meal. I say it's Victoria's dahlma
- 17:45Speaker 2: carney recipe because I know that good Dahl McCarney recipes exist.
- 17:50Speaker 2: This isn't it cany it. It's my budget hacked up
- 17:54Speaker 2: even cheaper version.
- 17:55Speaker 4: Amazing.
- 17:56Speaker 5: I love that. I love that Tudka.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Anyway, you're the only person on the team that's allowed
- 18:01Speaker 2: to make that joke.
- 18:02Speaker 5: I am. I am no joke. I'll make you a
- 18:06Speaker 5: dumb tudga one.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Day, thank you. I'm in for it. All right. With that,
- 18:09Speaker 2: let's go to a really quick break. On the flip side,
- 18:12Speaker 2: we're going to be talking about reframing your skills to
- 18:14Speaker 2: get yourself out there, and a spicy topic that has
- 18:17Speaker 2: been blowing up our dms this week about splitting cleaning
- 18:20Speaker 2: costs after you host a party so guys don't go anywhere.
- 18:28Speaker 4: Welcome back, everybody, Let's listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 18:31Speaker 7: Hi, love Lies, I'm hoping you can help me. I
- 18:34Speaker 7: have five K in credit card debt that I want cleared,
- 18:38Speaker 7: but I'm struggling to make any progress on my eighty
- 18:41Speaker 7: three K salary due to all the cost of living
- 18:44Speaker 7: increases and constantly increasing mortgage repayments. I know I need
- 18:48Speaker 7: a second income stream, but am at a loss what
- 18:51Speaker 7: to do? Do you have any suggestions on side hustles
- 18:55Speaker 7: for a personal assistant slash admin professional. I have twenty
- 18:59Speaker 7: years experience and am very good at my job, but
- 19:03Speaker 7: for some reason, I lose all confidence in myself when
- 19:06Speaker 7: I think about what skills I have to offer and
- 19:09Speaker 7: whether anyone out there would hire me. Any advice would
- 19:12Speaker 7: be greatly appreciated.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I want to hugue you.
- 19:17Speaker 4: That makes my heart sad that you're doubting yourself and
- 19:19Speaker 4: your skills, and you've obviously got so many years of
- 19:21Speaker 4: experience behind you. And to be quite frank, lots of
- 19:23Speaker 4: people with zero experience are making what's money on the internet.
- 19:25Speaker 4: So if they can do it, so can you.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Yeah. Like, that's basically the entire segment. Thank you for coming. Like,
- 19:31Speaker 2: there is a quote, and it's not a nice quote,
- 19:33Speaker 2: but we're going to put it on the podcast anyway.
- 19:35Speaker 2: There are dumber people doing smarter things than you are. Yeah,
- 19:38Speaker 2: there go literally and it always motivates me. I'm like, yeah,
- 19:41Speaker 2: you're right, there's no reason why I couldn't do anything
- 19:45Speaker 2: that I'm putting my mind to because I feel like
- 19:47Speaker 2: so many of the skills the employers look for are
- 19:50Speaker 2: not something that is I guess as measurable as I
- 19:54Speaker 2: guess a technical skill. So like, I want you to
- 19:56Speaker 2: be on time, I want you to be polite, I
- 19:58Speaker 2: want you to be kind, I want you to have
- 20:00Speaker 2: a really high attention to detail. None of those things
- 20:03Speaker 2: come from your level of intelligence, but more from your
- 20:06Speaker 2: ability to apply yourself. And I feel like this is
- 20:09Speaker 2: the theme of the week, so I'm going to repeat
- 20:10Speaker 2: it again because I basically want to drill it into
- 20:12Speaker 2: everybody's brains. But Beck and I were recording earlier this
- 20:16Speaker 2: week a deep dive, and I said it on there,
- 20:18Speaker 2: so we're going to say it again. That will come
- 20:19Speaker 2: out in a couple of weeks and it will make
- 20:21Speaker 2: sense to you. But having a low opinion of yourself
- 20:24Speaker 2: is not humble. It is actually self destruction. And I
- 20:29Speaker 2: think that by reframing our thoughts, you could change yourself
- 20:32Speaker 2: into anyone you want to be. You stay at home, mum, Jess, great,
- 20:36Speaker 2: you're out of the workforce for twenty years. You're probably
- 20:38Speaker 2: looking at that going far out. I have no tangible skills.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Your project management skills illite. Your time management, oh my gosh, amazing.
- 20:45Speaker 2: You can manage multiple priorities. That's fantastic. There are so
- 20:50Speaker 2: many things that you do that you need to be
- 20:53Speaker 2: able to see to get other people to see. And
- 20:55Speaker 2: if you can't see your own value, it clouds the
- 20:58Speaker 2: value that other people able to see in you. So
- 21:01Speaker 2: it is really at your own detriment if you're not
- 21:04Speaker 2: seeing yourself as valuable, because I promise you are. Like,
- 21:08Speaker 2: reframing things is so important, But sitting down and going well,
- 21:12Speaker 2: what do I do? And your job description might be
- 21:15Speaker 2: a little bit helpful. But I guarantee it's not about
- 21:19Speaker 2: what's on the list. It's about the things that go
- 21:21Speaker 2: beyond that that are the selling points, right Like Jess,
- 21:25Speaker 2: for example, if I take your job descriptions for Partnerships
- 21:28Speaker 2: manager at She's on the money. There are all these
- 21:30Speaker 2: tick boxes. But if you then flipped it and said, Victoria,
- 21:34Speaker 2: what do you like about what I do it, she's
- 21:37Speaker 2: on the money you already know, but tell me anyway, absolutely,
- 21:43Speaker 2: but it's not that you fulfill your job description. It's
- 21:46Speaker 2: that you're a client human and that our clients really
- 21:48Speaker 2: like interacting with you. And you've got the ability to
- 21:51Speaker 2: manage multiple priorities and still maintain a head about you.
- 21:54Speaker 2: There are so many different things that to me are
- 21:57Speaker 2: really important and the reason you have the job, Yeah,
- 22:00Speaker 2: you do the job like that's you know, let's say
- 22:02Speaker 2: a hygiene factor. But I think to be able to
- 22:05Speaker 2: see these things about yourself, that's when you are able
- 22:09Speaker 2: to reframe your skills and put yourself out there a
- 22:11Speaker 2: bit more. And I guess you know there are those
- 22:13Speaker 2: silly quotes where you know, sillier people are doing smarter
- 22:16Speaker 2: things like yes, because do you know what silly people
- 22:19Speaker 2: have audacity.
- 22:21Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure.
- 22:23Speaker 2: In a while, I'm gonna throw my own dad under
- 22:25Speaker 2: the bus literally right now, guys, Dad, I love you.
- 22:28Speaker 2: But this is just a really good example. Guys. Look
- 22:31Speaker 2: at this screenshot of a text message that my dad
- 22:35Speaker 2: sent inspirational messages from eric device today. It's a picture
- 22:40Speaker 2: of an old guy. It's a painting, and it says
- 22:43Speaker 2: on it, when you're dead, you know that you're dead.
- 22:46Speaker 2: The pain it's felt by others, the same thing happens
- 22:50Speaker 2: when you're stupid.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, Dad, that's a very dad esque.
- 22:56Speaker 2: But it's I'm not calling anybody stupid. I just think
- 22:59Speaker 2: it's all about reframing, like, you're a smart human being
- 23:03Speaker 2: and we need to see ourselves as such. Like you
- 23:07Speaker 2: have so much value I promise you do at the
- 23:10Speaker 2: end of the day. Like you genuinely are smarter than
- 23:14Speaker 2: most people that do your job because you've been doing
- 23:17Speaker 2: it for so long and there's so much value in
- 23:19Speaker 2: that as well. You've seen the peaks and the truughs
- 23:21Speaker 2: of your industry. You have experienced lots of different challenging circumstances.
- 23:26Speaker 2: You've probably had to manage multiple priorities you've probably had
- 23:29Speaker 2: to go through a lot to get where you are today,
- 23:32Speaker 2: and I think it's just so important to be able
- 23:34Speaker 2: to point that out. I think from my perspective, that
- 23:38Speaker 2: feels like a lot to swallow. So if I were you,
- 23:41Speaker 2: and that's what my ultimate goal was to, I guess,
- 23:45Speaker 2: put myself out there and get more work and you know,
- 23:47Speaker 2: change things, I would actually start with so fluffy, but
- 23:51Speaker 2: a little bit of self work, like how don't you
- 23:53Speaker 2: sit down and talk to yourself about this, Like write
- 23:55Speaker 2: a list of the things that you think you're good at.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Like you can burn the list later because you might
- 23:59Speaker 2: be embarrassed of all things that you're writing down because
- 24:01Speaker 2: you're like, oh my gosh, I feel like I've got
- 24:03Speaker 2: so many tickets for myself by writing this. But write
- 24:05Speaker 2: a list of the things that you're good at. Are
- 24:07Speaker 2: you good at communicating? Are you really good at project
- 24:10Speaker 2: management and time management? Are you really good at, you know,
- 24:13Speaker 2: maybe whipping together in Excel spreadsheet. It depends on who
- 24:17Speaker 2: you are and what you do. But write down all
- 24:19Speaker 2: of those things so that you can see them. Because
- 24:22Speaker 2: the more you believe in yourself, the easier it is
- 24:25Speaker 2: for other people to buy into that belief. Yeah, for sure.
- 24:28Speaker 2: What are the tips and tricks have you guys got
- 24:30Speaker 2: I would.
- 24:31Speaker 4: Say, just to her question about what side hustle she
- 24:34Speaker 4: could do that were kind of admin based or focused,
- 24:37Speaker 4: I would suggest getting on platforms like fiver or air tasker,
- 24:41Speaker 4: because you can pick up really simple once off tasks.
- 24:45Speaker 4: I think, especially if you're just starting to side hustle
- 24:47Speaker 4: and you're fitting it in around a full time job,
- 24:49Speaker 4: it can be tricky to juggle priorities, especially when you've
- 24:52Speaker 4: got other just life general things that you have to
- 24:54Speaker 4: attend to. So taking on once off jobs here and
- 24:58Speaker 4: there when you've got the time and the capacity is
- 25:00Speaker 4: a really straightforward way to kind of make it work
- 25:02Speaker 4: for you. And those platforms are really great. Like I
- 25:04Speaker 4: remember once someone had paid me five bucks to save
- 25:06Speaker 4: something to a PDF, like there is some no they
- 25:09Speaker 4: didn't like, you know, And if you have any skills
- 25:11Speaker 4: like video editing, I've done a lot of just like
- 25:14Speaker 4: thank you ble no, but it's you know, people who
- 25:18Speaker 4: need just a video cut together, and it's a really
- 25:20Speaker 4: straightforward thing if you've got the skill set or lots
- 25:22Speaker 4: of times there'll be people who just need a little
- 25:24Speaker 4: bit of assistance. With maybe some admin management, some email management,
- 25:28Speaker 4: templating for resumes and copywriting very frequently asked for, so
- 25:31Speaker 4: you can pick up once off jobs and then maybe
- 25:33Speaker 4: once you build a bit of momentum up, you can
- 25:35Speaker 4: offer it as a niche skill. Maybe you set up
- 25:37Speaker 4: a website, but obviously that's a bit more investment and time.
- 25:39Speaker 4: So getting on platforms that already exist makes it easy.
- 25:43Speaker 4: You can pick and choose what you do. You can
- 25:44Speaker 4: build up a bit of an existing client base and
- 25:46Speaker 4: some recommendations, and then down the track if you want
- 25:48Speaker 4: to do more, you can kind of leverage off of that.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Yeah, and you can kind of price yourself cheaper at
- 25:53Speaker 2: the start to get some reviews, and as you get
- 25:55Speaker 2: better and better reviews, you can increase your process because
- 25:58Speaker 2: you become a trusted member of that platform. Like so
- 26:01Speaker 2: many times I'll be like, oh, they're charging X for
- 26:04Speaker 2: that and they have no reviews. No, But if you
- 26:06Speaker 2: get a few reviews behind you, you're more likely to
- 26:09Speaker 2: get that momentum in I guess picking up clients, and
- 26:12Speaker 2: it's a very smart way of I guess side hustling
- 26:15Speaker 2: and bringing in a little bit of extra income. And
- 26:18Speaker 2: also it can build your confidence as well, because if
- 26:21Speaker 2: you price yourself at a point where you go, yeah,
- 26:23Speaker 2: I know that job is providing value to somebody else.
- 26:27Speaker 2: I'm getting a little bit of income from it. It's
- 26:29Speaker 2: going to give me a really good review. They give
- 26:31Speaker 2: you a review. You're increasing your confidence and wow, like
- 26:34Speaker 2: I can do that. I'm going to charge five dollars more,
- 26:36Speaker 2: and over time that compounds and then you're charging exactly
- 26:40Speaker 2: what every other freelancer would and you're feeling confident about it.
- 26:44Speaker 2: So I think that that's really smart. Beck. Where would
- 26:46Speaker 2: you start? What would you do?
- 26:47Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a really tough one and such a struggle
- 26:51Speaker 6: that I feel like everyone you know a lot, well
- 26:53Speaker 6: not everyone, but I feel like a lot of people
- 26:55Speaker 6: can relate to right now. And it's very sad that
- 26:57Speaker 6: that's the situation, having to, you know, take more time
- 27:00Speaker 6: out of your regular life that you want to live
- 27:03Speaker 6: because you can't afford to pay for mortgage or rental
- 27:07Speaker 6: or whatever the case may be. But honestly, I would
- 27:11Speaker 6: just say hang in there. It's really really poor advice,
- 27:14Speaker 6: Like I don't have advice on how to start a
- 27:17Speaker 6: side hustle and kind of like get back into an
- 27:19Speaker 6: industry or into an industry, but I just as.
- 27:23Speaker 5: A little confidence boost. You can do this, and.
- 27:26Speaker 6: You got this and it's really, really, really sucks, and
- 27:29Speaker 6: I'm proud of you for being like, you know, I
- 27:32Speaker 6: will just get a side hustle, and you know that
- 27:34Speaker 6: it's going to take a lot a chunk out of
- 27:36Speaker 6: your free spare time. But proud of you if you're
- 27:39Speaker 6: doing that. And I think that hopefully eventually everything will
- 27:42Speaker 6: be okay.
- 27:45Speaker 5: I'm sorry, that's very useless.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Good pep talk back. I think that that hits the
- 27:49Speaker 2: nail on the head. I think just getting started. Just
- 27:51Speaker 2: try it out, just try it out. I mean, at
- 27:54Speaker 2: the end of the day, I feel like you're right back.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Lots of people in our community are struggling with paying
- 27:59Speaker 2: their mortgage, the spiraling cost of living, and I think,
- 28:02Speaker 2: just put yourself out there, like you're clearly a well articulated,
- 28:05Speaker 2: smart person and I can tell that just from a
- 28:07Speaker 2: voicemail you left us, so I have no doubt that
- 28:10Speaker 2: your clients would be really happy to hear from you.
- 28:12Speaker 2: It's honestly, it's about confidence.
- 28:14Speaker 6: Hopefully someone reaches out after listening to this and be like, hey,
- 28:16Speaker 6: I've got this little thing that you can do or
- 28:18Speaker 6: you know, I agree.
- 28:19Speaker 2: All right, speaking of a little thing you can do.
- 28:22Speaker 2: We had a community dilemma this week that was a
- 28:24Speaker 2: little bit spicy and very one sided when it came
- 28:28Speaker 2: to the responses from our community, which I thought was
- 28:31Speaker 2: really funny because twenty percent of you said yes to
- 28:34Speaker 2: this and eighty percent said absolutely not. So here is
- 28:39Speaker 2: our community dilemma. This week. We got a message and
- 28:41Speaker 2: it sounded a little like this, Hey, girls, I really
- 28:44Speaker 2: need your opinion. My friend had a big group of
- 28:46Speaker 2: girls over to her house for drinks on the weekend.
- 28:49Speaker 2: There were about fifteen to twenty of us, which was
- 28:51Speaker 2: super fun. However, she's now messaged everyone asking us to
- 28:55Speaker 2: transfer her money in brackets immediately to help hire a
- 28:59Speaker 2: professional to clean her house. She said that there were
- 29:02Speaker 2: drinks built on the carpet and in the kitchen, and
- 29:05Speaker 2: that the living area and the bathroom are now really
- 29:07Speaker 2: dirty and she felt like we didn't respect her space.
- 29:10Speaker 2: I don't think I should have to pay, as it
- 29:12Speaker 2: was her choice to host us all knowing the consequences
- 29:15Speaker 2: of the house getting dirty, and I low key feel
- 29:18Speaker 2: like she's using this to get a free house clean.
- 29:21Speaker 2: It's not really in my budget for this week to
- 29:23Speaker 2: pay her. But a lot of my friends have said
- 29:25Speaker 2: they're happy to transfer, and now I feel like I'm
- 29:27Speaker 2: being the bad guy. What do I do? How do
- 29:30Speaker 2: I say I would rather not without making this friendship awkward?
- 29:35Speaker 2: Vacon Jess, what are your thoughts? What happens if I
- 29:40Speaker 2: hosted a little house party and then sent you a
- 29:43Speaker 2: message after and said, hey, Jess, ho bet, can you
- 29:45Speaker 2: please transfer me thirty bucks because you used my house
- 29:48Speaker 2: and now it's messy, and yeah, I would like to
- 29:51Speaker 2: hire a professional cleaner instead of cleaning it myself.
- 29:53Speaker 6: This is really a tough one because if there is
- 29:55Speaker 6: genuine like red wine stains on a white rug or
- 29:58Speaker 6: something in like someone just like really came in and
- 30:01Speaker 6: didn't respect your house and like broke some glasses and
- 30:04Speaker 6: did all this stuff, like really destroyed it or several people,
- 30:08Speaker 6: I guess it's hard to kind of narrow down who
- 30:09Speaker 6: the person was or the people were that kind of
- 30:13Speaker 6: did this, But.
- 30:14Speaker 5: It still feels a bit like not Okay, I don't know,
- 30:20Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 30:20Speaker 6: I guess if they just came in and made a mess,
- 30:22Speaker 6: a regular normal mess, one that you might find after
- 30:25Speaker 6: any gathero or house party or whatever, then definitely don't
- 30:30Speaker 6: pay for that, just clean it. I don't know, it
- 30:32Speaker 6: does get a little bit complicated if there's like real
- 30:35Speaker 6: stains on, like really expensive furniture and things.
- 30:39Speaker 4: I just feel like if I went to a party
- 30:42Speaker 4: and I was respectful of the space and I did
- 30:44Speaker 4: all the right things, and then someone expected me to
- 30:46Speaker 4: cover someone else's damage, I'd be pissed off. Like if
- 30:50Speaker 4: you're like, if if one person in the group got
- 30:52Speaker 4: real messy, really drunk.
- 30:54Speaker 2: You need to take it up with them.
- 30:55Speaker 4: Yeah, do you know what I mean? And as Beck said,
- 30:57Speaker 4: I know that it's hard to narrow it down, but
- 30:59Speaker 4: I would kind of being well, if I did all
- 31:01Speaker 4: of the right things, why on earth should I be
- 31:03Speaker 4: held responsible for the actions of somebody else? And I
- 31:06Speaker 4: feel like from what she said, you know, mess in
- 31:08Speaker 4: the bathroom, mess in the kitchen, that is a very
- 31:10Speaker 4: standard thing if you're hosting, you know, an evening where
- 31:13Speaker 4: people are perhaps partaking in a beverage, a bee or yeah,
- 31:16Speaker 4: you know, stuff spilled on the carpet is another thing.
- 31:19Speaker 4: But I also think that there are ways to clean
- 31:21Speaker 4: that as well, Like have you said, hey, like, have
- 31:24Speaker 4: you just tried cleaning it. Have you, Stane rub have
- 31:26Speaker 4: you maybe messaged the group and said, hey, guys, like
- 31:28Speaker 4: someone spilled something on the floor, did anyone have any
- 31:30Speaker 4: ideas on how I could clean it? Maybe someone you
- 31:33Speaker 4: would hope if they're good people, would they someone would say, oh,
- 31:35Speaker 4: it was me, I'm so sorry. Let me help you.
- 31:38Speaker 4: I can pay for it. Like, I just don't think
- 31:40Speaker 4: it's reasonable to put that expectation on everybody unless everyone
- 31:44Speaker 4: was going crazy and as Beck said, like absolutely trashing
- 31:47Speaker 4: the place. But in that case, why would you kind
- 31:50Speaker 4: of host to begin with? I don't know. I don't
- 31:52Speaker 4: want a victim blame here, but I just think that
- 31:54Speaker 4: there's probably better ways to go around it than just
- 31:57Speaker 4: immediately saying, hey, everybody, you have to put in for
- 31:59Speaker 4: this expect that you didn't expect, when on some level,
- 32:02Speaker 4: cleanup is an expected part of hosting.
- 32:05Speaker 2: I feel icky about this one because obviously it's an
- 32:09Speaker 2: unexpected cost that if I hosted a house party and
- 32:12Speaker 2: then you messed up my house, I think it's on me,
- 32:13Speaker 2: not on you. But also, what friends are you having over?
- 32:18Speaker 2: Did you know that they would act like this?
- 32:19Speaker 1: Like?
- 32:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I have a fair few different friends from lots
- 32:23Speaker 2: of different walks of life. And there are a few
- 32:26Speaker 2: friends that I would be like, absolutely not are they
- 32:29Speaker 2: coming to my house to have a house party, because
- 32:32Speaker 2: they will trash this place if they, you know, have
- 32:34Speaker 2: a few too many bevrashiash And by me offering to
- 32:39Speaker 2: host them, I'm opening myself up to that risk. And
- 32:43Speaker 2: if you don't want to host, and you don't want
- 32:45Speaker 2: to have your house essentially trashed, one why you're hosting
- 32:48Speaker 2: a party where that could get so out of hand,
- 32:51Speaker 2: Like maybe don't offer your space to do that, or maybe.
- 32:54Speaker 4: Call out the behavior, like if someone's being out that
- 32:57Speaker 4: was really really truc and they're there and you're like,
- 33:00Speaker 4: oh my gosh, I can see things happening. I can
- 33:02Speaker 4: see that you're going crazy. Maybe just nicely says them, Hey,
- 33:04Speaker 4: can I get you a cab to get you home?
- 33:06Speaker 4: Like I'm just a bit worried about you, or I
- 33:08Speaker 4: just think maybe you need to sleep it off. Can
- 33:09Speaker 4: I organize a lift for you or help you get
- 33:11Speaker 4: home in some way?
- 33:12Speaker 2: I totally agree with you. I also feel like the
- 33:16Speaker 2: way this read to me was like fifteen to twenty people,
- 33:19Speaker 2: that's a pretty well sized house party, Like you were
- 33:23Speaker 2: planning on having a house party where everyone was drinking.
- 33:26Speaker 2: I'm assuming it wasn't like a quaint dinner party where
- 33:28Speaker 2: we're all sitting around the table having out bevraginos with
- 33:32Speaker 2: a like cheese platter right like by the way she
- 33:35Speaker 2: was like, oh, there was like drinks on the carpet
- 33:37Speaker 2: in the kitchen, in the living area and the bathroom,
- 33:39Speaker 2: Like yeah, I don't know what type of like dinner
- 33:42Speaker 2: party or a house party you're having where the bathroom
- 33:44Speaker 2: gets absolutely filthy, Like I've never had that. And as
- 33:47Speaker 2: you know, Beck and Jess note, I love entertaining, like
- 33:50Speaker 2: I love having people over, and I feel like everyone's
- 33:53Speaker 2: always respected my space, like I've never been like, yeah,
- 33:55Speaker 2: in the bathroom's disgusting, Like what are you doing in
- 33:58Speaker 2: the bathroom of somebody else house to make it disgusting?
- 34:02Speaker 2: So I feel like you kind of do open yourself
- 34:05Speaker 2: up to that again, if it was completely out of hand,
- 34:08Speaker 2: I think approaching it in the same way that you
- 34:10Speaker 2: did Jess, where you're like, maybe you should take the
- 34:12Speaker 2: conversation to the group, not make the decision, and then
- 34:15Speaker 2: go by the way you owe me money, Because if
- 34:18Speaker 2: you're young, it's very unlikely that having the amount of
- 34:23Speaker 2: money in your bank account to share in a professional
- 34:25Speaker 2: cleaner is a fair assumption. Like, you're probably having house
- 34:29Speaker 2: parties because if you're anything like young Victoria, you had
- 34:32Speaker 2: a house parties because you couldn't afford to go out.
- 34:34Speaker 8: Yeah, Like, if you're over at my house, it's usually
- 34:37Speaker 8: a budget decision, Jess, Yeah, for sure, Like it's not Yeah, like,
- 34:41Speaker 8: I mean, I also love having people over for dinner parties,
- 34:43Speaker 8: but it's if we're having house party.
- 34:45Speaker 2: It's because it's way too expensive to like go to
- 34:48Speaker 2: a venue per se. Anyway, do we have any thoughts
- 34:51Speaker 2: before we go to what the community said?
- 34:53Speaker 4: No, I want to hear what everybody else had to say,
- 34:55Speaker 4: because we've all been very one sided.
- 34:57Speaker 2: Yeah. So that eighty twenty split that I dropped before
- 35:00Speaker 2: that was to the question do you think it's reasonable
- 35:02Speaker 2: for the host to ask people to transfer her Twenty
- 35:05Speaker 2: percent said yes, eighty percent of you said no.
- 35:07Speaker 4: Yep.
- 35:08Speaker 2: We asked, whose responsibility is it to pay for the cleaning?
- 35:11Speaker 2: A ninety one percent of you said the person who
- 35:14Speaker 2: hosted the drinks agreed. Then we asked, if you were
- 35:18Speaker 2: in this situation, would you be happy to pay twenty
- 35:21Speaker 2: four percent of you said yeah, and seventy six percent
- 35:24Speaker 2: of you said no, absolutely not.
- 35:26Speaker 4: Twenty four percent of you are better people than I am.
- 35:28Speaker 4: Just to be like get in the bin, I'd be like,
- 35:31Speaker 4: I'll come and scrub on my hands and knees and
- 35:33Speaker 4: help you.
- 35:33Speaker 2: But if I would actually offered them, if I like,
- 35:36Speaker 2: help you clean up, I don't want to pay. Yeah,
- 35:38Speaker 2: Like if that happened in a group chat and they
- 35:41Speaker 2: were like, hey, the house is literally a bomb site.
- 35:45Speaker 2: It's so much worse than i'd ever anticipated. Is anyone
- 35:48Speaker 2: free to help me? I'll be there. That was jop
- 35:51Speaker 2: me to bring my dyson. I've got a Dyson. Yeah,
- 35:53Speaker 2: really like showing it off, like I'll be there. I
- 35:55Speaker 2: have done that for friends in the past where they're
- 35:57Speaker 2: like moving into a house and it wasn't as clean
- 35:59Speaker 2: as they thought it was going to be. And I
- 36:01Speaker 2: was like, oh, I got your girl. I'm really good
- 36:03Speaker 2: with a toothbrush.
- 36:04Speaker 4: You took the toilet seed off. I remember that.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Yes, I'm very good at that. Anyway, moving forward to
- 36:09Speaker 2: what the community said, someone said, ask for picks of
- 36:12Speaker 2: the mess and offer to help her clean, which rank
- 36:14Speaker 2: is good? Someone said, I've hosted parties and had plenty
- 36:18Speaker 2: of mess to clean up. That's the risk you're taking
- 36:21Speaker 2: when you decide to host. Someone said, if it's a
- 36:23Speaker 2: really reasonable amount, I don't see the issue in paying.
- 36:26Speaker 2: Demanding it, though, is not an okay thing to do.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Someone said, I've had parties and accepted cleanup is just
- 36:32Speaker 2: a part of it. My friends helped tardy on the
- 36:34Speaker 2: night of though, after a finished partying, which was more
- 36:37Speaker 2: than enough help.
- 36:38Speaker 4: Yeah, my friends do that too.
- 36:39Speaker 2: I feel like I would never leave somebody's home without
- 36:42Speaker 2: being like, oh, let me help stuck the dishwasher, let
- 36:44Speaker 2: me like wipe down the venture. Like, I don't know,
- 36:46Speaker 2: maybe we're just different people cut from it.
- 36:48Speaker 4: I mean again, maybe if you're trashed, like I'm thinking
- 36:51Speaker 4: back to like nineteen twenty, when you're like stumbling out
- 36:54Speaker 4: of a house party and you don't know, yeah, you
- 36:56Speaker 4: know if you're an Arthur or a Martha. But like,
- 36:58Speaker 4: it's one of those things where I think that if
- 37:00Speaker 4: that's the case, again, there's just a nicer way to
- 37:03Speaker 4: go about it like this, it feels very aggressive.
- 37:06Speaker 2: It does feel aggressive.
- 37:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Someone said, if you're hosting and then expecting any type
- 37:10Speaker 2: of compensation, you need to be clear to everybody before
- 37:13Speaker 2: you invite them and they turn up to your house. Yep.
- 37:16Speaker 2: A few other people said, no way host pays. Someone
- 37:19Speaker 2: else said it sounds like the guests were completely disrespectful
- 37:23Speaker 2: to warrant a cleaning, which is totally fair. Girl, that
- 37:27Speaker 2: friend needs to pull their head in, is what someone
- 37:29Speaker 2: else is. Honestly, if you're disrespecting someone's space when you
- 37:34Speaker 2: go into it, what are you doing? Like I get
- 37:36Speaker 2: getting really drunk, but like drunk me, Yeah, she's not
- 37:40Speaker 2: messing up your house.
- 37:42Speaker 6: I've never been so drunk that I've forgotten all my
- 37:44Speaker 6: morals and no, yeah, like I would definitely still be
- 37:48Speaker 6: cleaning up after myself. Well, if it's a house party,
- 37:50Speaker 6: I certainly bounce, but yeah, I would never be, you know,
- 37:54Speaker 6: trying to disrespect someone's space.
- 37:56Speaker 2: I get that. And someone else said, if I was
- 37:58Speaker 2: the one who spelled alcohol in a carp I would
- 38:00Speaker 2: one hundred percent offer to pay for cleaning the carpet.
- 38:03Speaker 2: And I guess that goes the flip way where it's like,
- 38:08Speaker 2: if you know that that person is the one that's
- 38:09Speaker 2: spilled the red wine, I feel like that's who you
- 38:11Speaker 2: should be having a chat to, not necessarily Jess and Beck,
- 38:15Speaker 2: who were very respectful of your space and didn't do
- 38:18Speaker 2: anything and were therefore like going to be a bit like, oh,
- 38:21Speaker 2: I don't want to come to your next house party.
- 38:23Speaker 2: That was a really awkward, weird situation, Like, yeah, I'd
- 38:25Speaker 2: prefer to not be involved next time, like, which I
- 38:27Speaker 2: think would be a fair outcome, Like if I bill
- 38:30Speaker 2: you after coming to my house party, you're gonna be
- 38:32Speaker 2: like come back and not coming back. Let's probably end
- 38:36Speaker 2: it there, because I feel like this is a done
- 38:39Speaker 2: and dusted topic.
- 38:40Speaker 4: Everyone seems to be an agreement.
- 38:41Speaker 2: In agreement, but also a bit like we needed more context.
- 38:44Speaker 2: In more context, I don't know. Between fifteen to twenty people,
- 38:47Speaker 2: is it five bucks per head or is it fifty
- 38:49Speaker 2: dollars per yere?
- 38:50Speaker 4: I don't know. She's a person. A professional clean would
- 38:53Speaker 4: run you between one hundred and fifty and three hundred dollars,
- 38:56Speaker 4: I would say for an average like carpet clean, depending
- 38:58Speaker 4: on the space.
- 38:59Speaker 2: It would be such a good star hustle.
- 39:00Speaker 4: It would be a really good side hustle. There, you
- 39:02Speaker 4: got one away for later the person who read it earlier.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Yeah, Junior, so cleanup after your party for three hundred bucks.
- 39:08Speaker 2: Absolutely money win. All right, that is me. I am done.
- 39:12Speaker 2: I'm going to spend the weekend planning my new side hustles. Guys,
- 39:15Speaker 2: we hope you have the best weekend ever and we'll
- 39:17Speaker 2: see you for a money diary on Monday.
