- 0:04Speaker 1: the Order Kerni Whoaltbury and a waddery woman. And before
- 0:08Speaker 1: we get started on She's on the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 1:00Speaker 4: that makes personal finance fun, especially on Fridays. It is
- 1:04Speaker 4: our favorite day of the week because we get our
- 1:06Speaker 4: little team together to celebrate you the incredible She's on
- 1:09Speaker 4: the Money community, Misters Greed. She is going to be
- 1:12Speaker 4: sharing her favorite money wins and confessions from the community.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Miss beck Sayed is going to be sharing her broke tips.
- 1:18Speaker 4: We're going to be helping to answer a juicy money dilemma,
- 1:20Speaker 4: which this week is all about how to work out
- 1:22Speaker 4: if you'll have your hex step Forever and something that
- 1:25Speaker 4: you slid into our DMS about whether you should pay
- 1:28Speaker 4: for an accident that happened while you were helping a
- 1:30Speaker 4: friend out with something they maybe should have been paying
- 1:33Speaker 4: a professional form.
- 1:33Speaker 2: But before we get there, have a new year and
- 1:36Speaker 2: you year new. Meet guys, how are we feeling?
- 1:41Speaker 4: Yeah, it's twenty twenty Thrive, which is kind of funny
- 1:44Speaker 4: because it's only good in audio, so we're going to
- 1:46Speaker 4: be using it on.
- 1:47Speaker 2: The podcast a lot.
- 1:48Speaker 4: But if you write it down it looks like two
- 1:50Speaker 4: o two thrive and then people are quite confused.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Yes, oh yes, taking so much? Yeah, too hard? Too hard?
- 1:57Speaker 4: Anyway, how are we?
- 1:58Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:59Speaker 2: Really good.
- 1:59Speaker 6: I feel it's like there's something about starting afresh that
- 2:04Speaker 6: is like it doesn't mean anything, like it's the same.
- 2:07Speaker 6: It's just like, you know, it's the same week, Like
- 2:08Speaker 6: it's like Tuesday's.
- 2:10Speaker 2: New, it's new, it's fresh.
- 2:12Speaker 4: It feels like there's a futual line in the sand.
- 2:14Speaker 4: And that's the most annoying thing in the world, right,
- 2:16Speaker 4: Like you could start new anytime, and we always say
- 2:20Speaker 4: like there's no time like the present.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Well that's why just do it when you're ready.
- 2:24Speaker 4: If you're like Oh my gosh, I really want to
- 2:25Speaker 4: get my money life together or I really want to change, like.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Just do it, just get it done. But like, oh,
- 2:31Speaker 2: the motivation levels right.
- 2:32Speaker 6: Now much higher, Like imagine starting something at four point
- 2:36Speaker 6: thirty on a Tuesday.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Weird, weird, get it and we should we should, like
- 2:41Speaker 4: do you know what? I also see it as the
- 2:45Speaker 4: me that I want to become. She doesn't wait totally
- 2:48Speaker 4: the me that I want to become. She doesn't wait
- 2:50Speaker 4: for things the meat that I currently am.
- 2:52Speaker 2: She does. So I need the new year and she
- 2:55Speaker 2: is welcome here exactly the new year energy.
- 2:58Speaker 7: I love it.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Hone board, Jessica.
- 3:00Speaker 8: Done my vision board, I've reviewed. I write my goals
- 3:03Speaker 8: in my phone, like my resolutions, goals, whatever you want
- 3:06Speaker 8: to call them for. They my phone every year. So
- 3:07Speaker 8: I've reviewed last year's, made this year's. I sprin, cleaned
- 3:10Speaker 8: my hout like we're feeling for good.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Question is the Christmas tree down? Of course it is?
- 3:17Speaker 4: Oh my god, that is so depressing, Jessica. I have
- 3:20Speaker 4: to leave mine down until I have an argument with
- 3:22Speaker 4: my husband about it being up in February.
- 3:25Speaker 2: So what are you excited about right now for the
- 3:28Speaker 2: new year? Yeah, she's on the money.
- 3:31Speaker 8: Really obviously, I'm excited to just what am I?
- 3:36Speaker 2: Horrish?
- 3:39Speaker 8: The next holiday is a Valentine's Day, So right now
- 3:43Speaker 8: Valentine's Day, baking, Valentine's decorator. You know we're right on
- 3:47Speaker 8: a cycle.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Do you know what?
- 3:48Speaker 4: Now is the time to book in your Valentine's dinner? Like, Beck,
- 3:51Speaker 4: you're a romantic. It is so hard to get at
- 3:53Speaker 4: Valentine's Day dinner booking, so like now it's the time
- 3:56Speaker 4: to shine.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Ate No way, someone else is cooking on Valentine's Day?
- 4:02Speaker 2: Are you not cooking for somebody on Valentine's Day cooking?
- 4:05Speaker 2: I'm not getting booking anywhere, you know. Okay, okay, Park,
- 4:09Speaker 2: it's sun, it's grass, it's sweet romance.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Oh no, I need a fancy dinner, Like I want
- 4:17Speaker 4: to be wined and I want to be dying. And
- 4:19Speaker 4: I don't ask for that any other time of the year.
- 4:21Speaker 2: I don't.
- 4:22Speaker 4: I just don't simply don't care. But I want to
- 4:24Speaker 4: go out for Valentine's Day. I want to be trained
- 4:27Speaker 4: like a pretty princess. Like that's really lame, but yep,
- 4:33Speaker 4: like all of my feminist goals go out the window.
- 4:36Speaker 4: I need flowers.
- 4:37Speaker 2: I need to go out for dinner.
- 4:39Speaker 4: I need to be told that I'm the prettiest princess
- 4:41Speaker 4: that ever walked this planet.
- 4:42Speaker 2: On Valentine's Day, I think that's valet. I don't even
- 4:45Speaker 2: care if it's tacky. I am a commercial.
- 4:48Speaker 4: Dream rejoicing Victoria Devines and as well. But let's get
- 4:55Speaker 4: into it because New Year knew me. But we are
- 4:57Speaker 4: still harping on about our five star review because they
- 5:00Speaker 4: are so fun. This week, I have one for you,
- 5:03Speaker 4: and I feel like it sets the tone. Well, are
- 5:06Speaker 4: you ready? It's from Natalie Haya. This is the mood
- 5:09Speaker 4: we're taking into twenty twenty five or twenty twenty three.
- 5:12Speaker 2: You ready?
- 5:13Speaker 4: You girls are guaranteed to light up my day no
- 5:16Speaker 4: matter my mood, particularly if I've been feeling down. Your
- 5:20Speaker 4: cheery voices always make me feel better. Not only do
- 5:23Speaker 4: you come up with the facts and the helpful tips
- 5:25Speaker 4: and tricks, you come with a whole lot of empathy
- 5:27Speaker 4: and genuine support as well, and that really shines through.
- 5:31Speaker 4: This is so nice, But Victoria, you are a literal
- 5:34Speaker 4: ray of sunshine in human form and such a great
- 5:37Speaker 4: role model for women. Not to mention, of course, your
- 5:40Speaker 4: fabulous co hostesses Beck and Jess. Together, you guys make
- 5:45Speaker 4: an amazing.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Team, perfectly curated to make us.
- 5:47Speaker 4: Feel uplifted, seen, heard, and educated.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Love you all and so grateful for what you done
- 5:54Speaker 2: to Love you too, too, heart emojis.
- 5:57Speaker 5: They're so sweet, Natalie ever Yeah yeah, May, oh my god,
- 6:04Speaker 5: totally and like, honestly feeling seen and heard two of
- 6:08Speaker 5: I feel like the most important things.
- 6:10Speaker 4: And I feel like our community does that for us
- 6:12Speaker 4: as well. Really yeah, the second I read that, I
- 6:15Speaker 4: was like.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Oh, that's how I feel about our community.
- 6:19Speaker 4: I feel like I go there and anything that we're
- 6:21Speaker 4: struggling with or like wanting to chat about, everyone's like, yeah, girl,
- 6:24Speaker 4: what is it?
- 6:25Speaker 2: I really like that. It's so nice.
- 6:27Speaker 4: Like it's like when you call a friend and you're like,
- 6:29Speaker 4: what should I wear? I don't know and they're like,
- 6:31Speaker 4: I don't care, come as you and you're like, n exactly.
- 6:36Speaker 4: But I love this and I feel like we're going
- 6:38Speaker 4: to carry this energy past January.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Absolutely. I think we have been equipped with all the
- 6:44Speaker 2: tools we have been and we will continue to equip
- 6:47Speaker 2: you with even more tools this year.
- 6:49Speaker 4: You just wait this so much in store. I didn't
- 6:51Speaker 4: call it twenty twenty Thrive for Nothing but Miss Jess
- 6:54Speaker 4: Briacy Community, money wins and confessions. What do you bring
- 6:58Speaker 4: into the table this fancy new year already? Firstly, I've
- 7:01Speaker 4: got a lot of on theme with you know, refreshing, reviewing,
- 7:05Speaker 4: on brand correct, all the things we should be doing
- 7:07Speaker 4: at the moment. So firstly from Kendall, she said she
- 7:09Speaker 4: realized that the RSPCA was advertising a reduced rate on
- 7:12Speaker 4: pet insurance that was lower than what she's currently being charged.
- 7:15Speaker 4: She called up to query it and she's been given
- 7:17Speaker 4: the reduced rate and three months for free.
- 7:20Speaker 2: I love it. How good is that? Great?
- 7:23Speaker 8: Next, I've got money win from Audrey who's flying with
- 7:25Speaker 8: Virgin to Brisbane next year. It's a round trip and
- 7:28Speaker 8: she's used points from her flybys and credit card to
- 7:32Speaker 8: adults and a ten year old flying totally for free.
- 7:34Speaker 2: WHOA how good is that? Yeh?
- 7:37Speaker 8: Next, I've got a money win from April, she said,
- 7:39Speaker 8: money win. She managed to score a free school uniform.
- 7:43Speaker 8: She sold her previous uniform second hand, it was in
- 7:47Speaker 8: really good condition, and then she managed to find an
- 7:49Speaker 8: equally awesome condition uniform at the school shop. Crazy expensive.
- 7:56Speaker 8: I understand why parents are like, buy this blazer that's
- 7:59Speaker 8: ten sizes too big.
- 8:00Speaker 4: That okay, So confession New Year confession. Apologies to my mum.
- 8:07Speaker 4: This happened in grade seven, actually it would have been
- 8:10Speaker 4: grade six when I was picking my grade seven blazer.
- 8:12Speaker 4: The tantrum I had in the uniform shop because I
- 8:15Speaker 4: didn't want the blazer you wanted me to have and
- 8:18Speaker 4: I wanted the well fitted one.
- 8:19Speaker 2: I'm really sorry. Yeah, we get it loas and just
- 8:22Speaker 2: get like the same colored.
- 8:24Speaker 8: No logan. Ours had to be had to be logoed whatever.
- 8:28Speaker 8: They were very particular at our school, Like I see.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Very privileged.
- 8:32Speaker 4: I went to a Catholic school, so like the blazer
- 8:36Speaker 4: was like the thing beck if we were seen outside
- 8:40Speaker 4: of our school, so like after school with down the
- 8:43Speaker 4: shops not wearing our blazer, immediate detention.
- 8:46Speaker 2: It's so crazy, really immediate rule.
- 8:50Speaker 4: But if you were seen outside of school and you
- 8:52Speaker 4: were wearing your school dress without a blazer, done, you
- 8:56Speaker 4: were done.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Seems so portrayed to get written.
- 8:58Speaker 4: Up and people would like dip adop as well, that's me,
- 9:01Speaker 4: Like you yet called to the office and then be like, oh,
- 9:04Speaker 4: mister so and so from such and such as class
- 9:06Speaker 4: saw you at the coals and you were wearing your
- 9:09Speaker 4: blazer well when you were just going a jumper.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Oh well, how yes, you know, not by us, but
- 9:17Speaker 2: someone will give and it won't be Jess, but she'll
- 9:21Speaker 2: threaten it you really angrily.
- 9:23Speaker 8: No, our legacy was we had a winter in a
- 9:25Speaker 8: summer uniform, and so the girls winter and summer uniforms
- 9:29Speaker 8: were both skirts. You couldn't wear pants or shorts. And
- 9:33Speaker 8: so our friend group legacy was we petitioned and girls
- 9:36Speaker 8: at the school can now wear pants.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Really, I love that.
- 9:39Speaker 4: I remember that it was the biggest drama in the
- 9:42Speaker 4: entire world when one of the girls was like, I'm
- 9:44Speaker 4: not comfortable in a skirt and wanted to wear the
- 9:47Speaker 4: pants that boys talent, so she just bought them and
- 9:49Speaker 4: started wearing them. Riot actually insane also the time, and
- 9:54Speaker 4: this is probably not what my ex school wants to
- 9:57Speaker 4: be perpetuated, the time that they suspended a from my
- 10:00Speaker 4: class because he came to school with a shaved head
- 10:04Speaker 4: and you weren't allowed a shaved head at our school
- 10:06Speaker 4: because like part of the uniform was like your hair
- 10:09Speaker 4: had to be a minimum of two centimeters long or
- 10:11Speaker 4: something for the boys. Right, wild, But he had a
- 10:13Speaker 4: shaved head because he'd raised money for cancer.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Oh really, yeah, I know that. Yeah, of course they like.
- 10:21Speaker 4: And even if they didn't know that, and they called
- 10:23Speaker 4: him to the office, like what is he going to
- 10:25Speaker 4: sit there and not say anything, he would have been like, dude,
- 10:27Speaker 4: I shaved my head on the weekend to raise money
- 10:30Speaker 4: for leukemia, Like be for real. And they still did
- 10:33Speaker 4: it and it made the news so good. That's not
- 10:38Speaker 4: to mention the time that one of the ex teachers
- 10:40Speaker 4: married one of the students.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that was good. I will send you the
- 10:44Speaker 2: links this Oh God, this is Jesus.
- 10:47Speaker 8: School was catholicing thoughts and prayers to everyone going back
- 10:51Speaker 8: to school.
- 10:52Speaker 2: We need you to elaborate after Jesse, I'll let you know, Jessicat,
- 10:57Speaker 2: what else have you got next?
- 10:58Speaker 8: I've got money in from Samantha, who said money balanced.
- 11:01Speaker 8: She had a money lost she bought a costc membership,
- 11:03Speaker 8: which would argue.
- 11:04Speaker 4: That's not a money lost, that's an investment in your
- 11:07Speaker 4: like that's an activity.
- 11:08Speaker 2: She said, money counterbalance, Like, she only left with a
- 11:10Speaker 2: pizza and a hot chook. So I'm chok.
- 11:13Speaker 4: They you know the hot chooks, they're like four ninety
- 11:16Speaker 4: nine at Costco.
- 11:17Speaker 8: Oh really, that's a good deal. That's a good deal.
- 11:20Speaker 8: They lose what is it called they lose money?
- 11:22Speaker 2: Money?
- 11:23Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 11:24Speaker 2: Say they like lose money as soon as they leave
- 11:27Speaker 2: the you know.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Can't yeah, and I can't resell it.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it's already three ninety nine. What the hell? Costco
- 11:38Speaker 2: pizza is so good?
- 11:39Speaker 8: If I had a membership, just go buy a cost
- 11:41Speaker 8: Co pizza for dinner because they're so big anyway.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Next, I've got a money win. I'm surprised Jessica doesn't
- 11:45Speaker 2: have a Costcome membership. I'm shocked by that too. I'm horrified.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Our friends have a Costcome membership, so we use them. Yes,
- 11:52Speaker 2: there was always good she's getting in the.
- 11:58Speaker 8: Next, I've got money win from Amy, who said she
- 12:00Speaker 8: didn't realize there was such a thing as Microsoft points,
- 12:02Speaker 8: which I also had never So apparently you can earn
- 12:06Speaker 8: points for doing things like using their native search engine,
- 12:09Speaker 8: which is being and then you can then cash them
- 12:11Speaker 8: in for gift cards. So apparently she's inadvertently earned herself
- 12:15Speaker 8: enough points to get fifty bucks off her next Airbnb.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Okay, so you just have to use bing. Apparently that's
- 12:22Speaker 2: one of the ways I sorry, I really diluted that.
- 12:26Speaker 4: I'm sure there's more, there's more to it, but like
- 12:28Speaker 4: you have to use bing?
- 12:29Speaker 2: Is it so funny?
- 12:30Speaker 5: I know.
- 12:31Speaker 2: That's the thing is that I remember my story one
- 12:33Speaker 2: time was like, sorry, Microsoft, she's a ten.
- 12:35Speaker 6: But bing is her. You know, Bing is the future.
- 12:41Speaker 6: So I'm so sorry to anybody.
- 12:43Speaker 2: It's called I did look it up.
- 12:44Speaker 8: It's called Microsoft for rewards, so you can earn rewards
- 12:46Speaker 8: by simply doing what you love to do.
- 12:48Speaker 4: So I'm just trying to wrap my head around fly By,
- 12:51Speaker 4: like I can't get Yes, that's incredible.
- 12:54Speaker 8: Though, if you want to stack on a new you know,
- 12:56Speaker 8: point system, or if you're already being user, I'm sure
- 12:58Speaker 8: there's people out there you can be earning.
- 13:00Speaker 2: There, go show yourselves.
- 13:03Speaker 8: And lastly, this week I've got money in from Meg
- 13:05Speaker 8: who said money in. She swopped from telt to Optors.
- 13:08Speaker 8: She's on the exact same plan with the exact same data,
- 13:10Speaker 8: but she's saving herself forty bucks a month.
- 13:12Speaker 4: Money new phone plan.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Yes, now is the time.
- 13:19Speaker 4: Now's the timeime plan, new insurances. We are cleaning financial house.
- 13:24Speaker 4: We're setting ourselves up for success. If you got an
- 13:27Speaker 4: email the same as me saying Apple took a subscription
- 13:31Speaker 4: amount and you don't know what it's for.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Now is the time? Yes, figure it work out? Why
- 13:37Speaker 2: figure it out?
- 13:38Speaker 5: You are doing?
- 13:39Speaker 2: Put your big girl pants on? All right? Well? Moving on, Beck, Yes,
- 13:45Speaker 2: new year, new broke tip. What have you got? Okay?
- 13:47Speaker 6: So I was thinking that when I first started broke
- 13:52Speaker 6: tips in my brain they were going to be unhinged.
- 13:55Speaker 2: So I'm thinking for week.
- 13:56Speaker 6: They happy, happy, they could be slightly more unhinged.
- 14:04Speaker 4: I'm thinking and tips that nobody's ever going to do
- 14:07Speaker 4: what exactly.
- 14:08Speaker 2: But you know what's crazy is that I've always I
- 14:10Speaker 2: had always done these things and didn't think that they
- 14:14Speaker 2: were weird or whatever.
- 14:15Speaker 4: You know what I mean anyway, So it's just like
- 14:17Speaker 4: when people eat like the skin of the kiwi fruit bizarre,
- 14:21Speaker 4: or like the tops of the strawberries, like the strawberries.
- 14:25Speaker 2: What are you a hamster? Sometimes I feel like one,
- 14:29Speaker 2: just on the hamster wheel tops the tops of carrots. No,
- 14:34Speaker 2: I couldn't if I tried. If you couldn't if you tried.
- 14:37Speaker 2: So that's quite corky. What's the word like? Woody? Is it?
- 14:41Speaker 2: It's fine? Yeah, that's true. Well I'll go I'll start.
- 14:44Speaker 6: I'll start right, fine, I don't black bit at the
- 14:46Speaker 6: end of the banana, if you guys do.
- 14:48Speaker 4: Okay, that's unhinged all that you have to pull that out. No, no,
- 14:52Speaker 4: the black bit at the end of the banana is
- 14:54Speaker 4: where I draw my line back chills.
- 14:56Speaker 2: All right, So tell me about your broke tips.
- 14:58Speaker 6: All that to say, I can't promise every single week
- 15:00Speaker 6: they'll be unhinged, but this week they're a little bit unhinged.
- 15:03Speaker 6: So this first one comes from MND. This one is
- 15:05Speaker 6: not unhinged, of course. I make a wish list on
- 15:08Speaker 6: Cartered and wait for things to go on sale. What
- 15:11Speaker 6: is carted and why haven't ever used it? I'm gonna
- 15:13Speaker 6: start now.
- 15:14Speaker 8: It's a plug in online, I believe so. They it's
- 15:18Speaker 8: one of those platforms where you can It's really handed
- 15:20Speaker 8: because you can link things you want. So it's great
- 15:22Speaker 8: if you have people who go, what do you want
- 15:24Speaker 8: for your birthday? You can keep like a running list.
- 15:26Speaker 8: Also very good for putting twenty four hours between you
- 15:28Speaker 8: and you're spending. Yes, But the really good thing is
- 15:31Speaker 8: it notifies you when things go on sale. So if
- 15:35Speaker 8: you go, oh, I really want to die some air
- 15:36Speaker 8: ap but I don't want to pay full price for it,
- 15:38Speaker 8: You put it in and then you get a notification
- 15:40Speaker 8: if it finds it discounted anywhere, which is pretty clearly.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Yeah, that's great. So it's like it doesn't have to
- 15:45Speaker 2: be on the website that you saved it.
- 15:46Speaker 6: It could be anywhere on the web. Yeah, that's really cool,
- 15:51Speaker 6: Thank you, Amanda. The next one comes from B, who
- 15:53Speaker 6: says if you sign up at Point of Fitness, you
- 15:55Speaker 6: can bring a friend for free anytime during staffing hours,
- 15:58Speaker 6: which I think is great and it doesn't seem like
- 16:00Speaker 6: from what I'm reading. B says that it's not like
- 16:04Speaker 6: it hasn't said this. Sorry if I've inferred this. It's
- 16:07Speaker 6: not like a.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Kind of like a promotion or anything like that. It's
- 16:10Speaker 2: just like an an ongoing you can.
- 16:12Speaker 6: You could literally share a membership. There a limit to
- 16:16Speaker 6: how many friends you limit?
- 16:18Speaker 8: Well, yeah, because in my mind I'm like, well, surely
- 16:20Speaker 8: people just split a gym membership and you know.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Yeah, you'd have to be smart about it though, because
- 16:24Speaker 4: you'd have to go together, always.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Always together, and always do during staffed hours.
- 16:29Speaker 4: So it's like, I mean, that's where possible, that's possible.
- 16:32Speaker 4: That's completely possible. What if you're in a relationship perfect.
- 16:35Speaker 6: Perfect, you could conceivably be spending half price on a
- 16:38Speaker 6: gym membership for.
- 16:39Speaker 2: I think that's a very good tip. Yeah, that is
- 16:42Speaker 2: really good. That's good.
- 16:43Speaker 6: So obviously this next one is mine. But my friend
- 16:46Speaker 6: who I work with reminded me that this is something
- 16:49Speaker 6: I actually used to do a lot so and I'm
- 16:52Speaker 6: sure a lot of people do this.
- 16:53Speaker 2: I feel like it was a trend back in the
- 16:55Speaker 2: day at I E.
- 16:56Speaker 6: Actually days ago that was wiry sandwich bag tires can
- 17:02Speaker 6: hold a sandal together, fears genuinely, And I know that
- 17:04Speaker 6: sounds dumb because like you just buy a new sandals
- 17:07Speaker 6: metal its metal exactly.
- 17:09Speaker 4: And also also they're changing all the sandwich ties to
- 17:11Speaker 4: being cardboards, so this is going to.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Be yes, well that's very true.
- 17:15Speaker 4: That doesn't work out, but yes, yes.
- 17:17Speaker 6: But also I was thinking, like when I first read
- 17:19Speaker 6: his message, I was like wire, and then I thought
- 17:22Speaker 6: of like when you get like a sandwich bag of ziploc.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Ones, and I was like, oh, yeah, I guess.
- 17:26Speaker 4: You could do that, And so I thought we were
- 17:27Speaker 4: talking about the like little wires, like a little bit size.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Twist tie and also the clippy. Yes.
- 17:34Speaker 6: All I'm trying to say is just forget about what
- 17:36Speaker 6: people say. Don't worry about social rules, the arbitrary. If
- 17:40Speaker 6: there's a way to fix something, whether it's duct tape.
- 17:42Speaker 4: Oh, fixing that is a good boat tip though, because
- 17:46Speaker 4: how many of us just go, oh, I could never
- 17:48Speaker 4: do that, but then you don't even try.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you can do it.
- 17:51Speaker 4: There's a YouTube tutorial for anything. You can probably fix
- 17:54Speaker 4: it totally.
- 17:55Speaker 6: And I know if they's four, but anytime I would
- 17:56Speaker 6: get like I actually did wear stockings in high school
- 17:59Speaker 6: and sometimes they'd rip, I would literally color my leg
- 18:01Speaker 6: in black.
- 18:03Speaker 2: That yeah, totally.
- 18:04Speaker 8: I still do doing that with my runners currently. My
- 18:07Speaker 8: runners are like they're that mesh. And they started to
- 18:10Speaker 8: tear really soon after I got them, and I was like, well,
- 18:12Speaker 8: I'm not buying new ones.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, mine did that too, but I sewed
- 18:16Speaker 2: them back up.
- 18:17Speaker 8: Oh my, it was very like holy, so I couldn't
- 18:20Speaker 8: and then I just left it. And now there's literally
- 18:22Speaker 8: like ten holes on my shoes and everyone looks at
- 18:24Speaker 8: them and they're like why why also socks instead of black,
- 18:30Speaker 8: so instead of wearing white socks and you could see them
- 18:32Speaker 8: through I just started wearing black socks.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Yea.
- 18:34Speaker 4: Literally the story of honestly, this is a story of values,
- 18:38Speaker 4: because miss jessic Ricci, I know what you earn, I
- 18:40Speaker 4: know what's in your savings account, and I know what
- 18:42Speaker 4: you're disposable income hooks, like you can afford new shoes,
- 18:46Speaker 4: but you're like that is not worth it. And I
- 18:48Speaker 4: think that that is iconic totally.
- 18:50Speaker 6: Your motto is if it ain't broke, don't fix it,
- 18:52Speaker 6: and if it is broke, don't.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Don't fix it with just use it.
- 18:57Speaker 8: Just use it, Just use it, you know, no worry,
- 19:00Speaker 8: you know what broke. Actually, so I'm getting so off topic,
- 19:02Speaker 8: but personal anecdote. My we spoke up to the podcast
- 19:05Speaker 8: my beloved Topp ofwar rice Mia what happened.
- 19:09Speaker 2: So there's like it has the lid.
- 19:13Speaker 8: And there's two handles that clip down to the lid
- 19:16Speaker 8: so the steam doesn't push the lid off. One of
- 19:18Speaker 8: the handles broke. No, I'm still using it.
- 19:21Speaker 2: I don't care. I lost.
- 19:22Speaker 4: Yes, it would still work right, Yeah, once it's a
- 19:25Speaker 4: little bit loose, but.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Does it matter? Does the rice cook?
- 19:28Speaker 1: Well?
- 19:28Speaker 2: So far? Yes, not broken.
- 19:30Speaker 8: That's what I totally chuck it. Just looks differing of
- 19:32Speaker 8: water on top. I tried looking to find one. I
- 19:34Speaker 8: found it was one hundred dollars.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Absolutely not, no, sir, No, So what is this? Is
- 19:38Speaker 2: this just like a little.
- 19:39Speaker 4: Shameless call out if anyone has an old tupperware rice
- 19:42Speaker 4: cooker by slide into Jessica's GMS with a fair price, okay,
- 19:48Speaker 4: and she's she's probably going to invest in that, but
- 19:50Speaker 4: she won't invest in her shoes.
- 19:51Speaker 2: No, god, no, I really agree. If it works, it
- 19:54Speaker 2: works totally totally.
- 19:56Speaker 6: And if you have new shoes that you want to give, yes,
- 19:58Speaker 6: don't tell her because she doesn't wander.
- 20:00Speaker 2: But the rice cookerd definitely. Can you just put something
- 20:01Speaker 2: heavy on top? No, there's holes for the steam to
- 20:04Speaker 2: come out. You know, I'll look into it, look into it,
- 20:06Speaker 2: we'll work it. Sorry, broke, don't fix it.
- 20:09Speaker 4: If it is broke, don't fix it completely.
- 20:11Speaker 2: So let's do it from a really quick break.
- 20:14Speaker 4: And on the flip side, we're going to be talking
- 20:15Speaker 4: about what happens to your hex step if you're not
- 20:18Speaker 4: going to be able to pay it off, like are
- 20:20Speaker 4: you going to be in hext step forever? And something
- 20:22Speaker 4: that you slid into our dms about should you be
- 20:24Speaker 4: paying for an accident that happened while you're helping a
- 20:27Speaker 4: friend out with something that they maybe should have just
- 20:29Speaker 4: been paying a professional for.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Don't go anywhere. Welcome back everyone. Let's take a listen
- 20:38Speaker 2: to the first money dilemma of the year. Hi, there, have.
- 20:44Speaker 4: You got a money dilemma you just can't solve? The
- 20:46Speaker 4: Sheese on the Money team is here to help. Every week,

- 20:56Speaker 4: simply head to our website and leave us a short
- 20:58Speaker 4: voice recording and you might just find youself on the show. Now,
- 21:01Speaker 4: let's take a listen to this week's money dilemma, Victoria.
- 21:06Speaker 7: You recently said on the podcast that there are some
- 21:09Speaker 7: people who will just never pay off their hex. How
- 21:12Speaker 7: do you work out if you're one of those people?
- 21:15Speaker 7: I earn around sixty thousand dollars a year working part time,
- 21:21Speaker 7: and I have a hex step of thirty thousand dollars.
- 21:25Speaker 7: I'm wondering if I'm one of those people.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Thanks, I did say that on the show, didn't I?
- 21:31Speaker 2: I did? I back it up.
- 21:33Speaker 4: There are definitely some people who will never pay off
- 21:37Speaker 4: their heck steps and that sounds terrifying, but I think
- 21:39Speaker 4: we need to contextualize it a little bit as well,
- 21:42Speaker 4: because in Australia our hex slash help loan scheme, while
- 21:48Speaker 4: it doesn't have interest that gets added to it, it
- 21:50Speaker 4: does have indexation. And if obviously there's been a lot
- 21:54Speaker 4: of talk, like last year we were talking about how
- 21:56Speaker 4: ridiculous the indexation was. It was that like seven point
- 21:58Speaker 4: one percent, which was unhind but on average over the
- 22:02Speaker 4: last thirty years, the average help slash hex debt indexation
- 22:06Speaker 4: sits at about two point seven percent, So like we
- 22:09Speaker 4: can spread that across our lifetimes and use that as
- 22:11Speaker 4: kind of like the average indexation rate, which could be
- 22:15Speaker 4: interchanged if you really wanted to, with an interest rate.
- 22:18Speaker 4: And in this situation when it comes to debt repayment,
- 22:21Speaker 4: we're just going to look at it as that's the
- 22:23Speaker 4: interest rate that it's going to grow by. Now this
- 22:25Speaker 4: community member has written in and said, hey, v I'm
- 22:27Speaker 4: one of these people, Like I have a sixty thousand
- 22:29Speaker 4: dollars income, I work part time, and I have a
- 22:31Speaker 4: thirty thousand dollars hex. Now I'm going to assume that
- 22:34Speaker 4: you earn that full sixty thousand dollars a year. That's
- 22:37Speaker 4: like your part time income. It's not like pro rata.
- 22:39Speaker 4: Just taking it as pace value. Thirty thousand dollars hextebt
- 22:44Speaker 4: means that you are probably paying back each and every
- 22:47Speaker 4: single year about six hundred dollars worth of your HEX debt,
- 22:50Speaker 4: which I'm really sorry, means you will have your hextet
- 22:53Speaker 4: for life. I'm going to open it up to you
- 22:54Speaker 4: too before I give the solution or the conversation.
- 22:58Speaker 2: How does that make you feel.
- 23:00Speaker 4: Thinking that there are people in our community that are
- 23:02Speaker 4: never going to pay off their hex debt, or that
- 23:04Speaker 4: are always going to have this quote debt looming over them.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Thankful that I didn't go to university.
- 23:11Speaker 4: You're like, it pays to be uneducated by I mean,
- 23:14Speaker 4: I think that it would annoy me knowing that the
- 23:17Speaker 4: debt was there, and knowing that, like every year for
- 23:19Speaker 4: the rest of your life, you're contributing whatever amount.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Six hundred bucks a year at this point, yeah, which.
- 23:24Speaker 8: Is not a small amount of money, like especially when
- 23:27Speaker 8: it's not or it would I imagine it would feel
- 23:29Speaker 8: like you're not putting a dent in one you know,
- 23:31Speaker 8: You're like, oh, well, what am I just going to
- 23:32Speaker 8: pay six hundred dollars and it's going to increase? Is
- 23:35Speaker 8: it's indexed you know, every year for the rest of
- 23:37Speaker 8: my life. That seems really annoying to me. I mean,
- 23:41Speaker 8: I guess on the flip side, is it the cost
- 23:44Speaker 8: of your education?
- 23:45Speaker 2: Like you could make extra contribution.
- 23:46Speaker 8: I don't like it, but we know that I don't
- 23:48Speaker 8: love like debt makes me feel little wicky, just generally,
- 23:51Speaker 8: like because of my past experience with it. I don't
- 23:52Speaker 8: love having it if I can avoid it. But it's
- 23:55Speaker 8: like one of those things at the same time where
- 23:57Speaker 8: at least it doesn't pass on to somebody else s
- 24:00Speaker 8: which I think you're in or somebody here if I
- 24:03Speaker 8: passed away, it's not going to become someone else's burden.
- 24:06Speaker 8: But I mean, like, unless you want to make extra contributions,
- 24:08Speaker 8: what can you do?
- 24:09Speaker 1: You know?
- 24:10Speaker 8: I feel like all of those things that'say, well, well
- 24:11Speaker 8: you stuck between a rock and a hard place totally.
- 24:14Speaker 2: But I did go to UNI.
- 24:15Speaker 6: I didn't ever actually finish anything, as you guys know,
- 24:18Speaker 6: but so I do have like random bits of units.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Yes, sorry, you know what, Actually it's crazy.
- 24:26Speaker 6: I've never finished a unit and never finished a module
- 24:28Speaker 6: and I've never been a but I've paid.
- 24:30Speaker 2: For them, and I checked my right in and dispute
- 24:34Speaker 2: that I didn't think it was a possibility. I checked it.
- 24:39Speaker 4: Even now, I would definitely write in and say, hey,
- 24:43Speaker 4: I just want to have a chat with somebody or
- 24:45Speaker 4: like raise it because I actually never finished any of this.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Is there a way that I can write it?
- 24:49Speaker 4: Because like, I'm not saying that they will waive it,
- 24:52Speaker 4: but there is a census state where you are meant
- 24:55Speaker 4: to pull out by and I can pull out of
- 24:57Speaker 4: a unit before then you can you know, not pay
- 25:00Speaker 4: for the course. Yes, And I'm not saying that they'll
- 25:02Speaker 4: honor it, but I have heard of people being able
- 25:05Speaker 4: to write in and say, hey, I never finished X,
- 25:06Speaker 4: y Z and I'm never going to be able to
- 25:08Speaker 4: pay this off.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Is there a way too?
- 25:10Speaker 4: And it's been honest, so like I mean, if you
- 25:12Speaker 4: don't ask, you don't get right totally.
- 25:14Speaker 2: That's true.
- 25:14Speaker 6: Okay, that's that's something you'll I'll think about it too much.
- 25:18Speaker 6: It would be really nice though. It's that thirty thousand
- 25:20Speaker 6: dollars somehow, and I don't know what a quick I've
- 25:24Speaker 6: been to it.
- 25:25Speaker 2: I'm just like, it's not.
- 25:26Speaker 6: That much if you're not really seeing it, like I don't.
- 25:29Speaker 6: I feel like if at the end of the year,
- 25:31Speaker 6: unless like your employee employer is doing something right, you
- 25:35Speaker 6: don't have to like get to tax time and be like,
- 25:37Speaker 6: oh I owe this much in hex like you don't
- 25:39Speaker 6: really see it. So I'm like, and also, if you're
- 25:42Speaker 6: making a certain amount then you start paying a little bit,
- 25:46Speaker 6: it just feels like nothing to me personally, Like I've
- 25:49Speaker 6: no concern even if it's a million dollars, Like a
- 25:52Speaker 6: million dollars in next step, I'd be like, I don't care.
- 25:55Speaker 4: Is that because the debt repayments aren't crippling to your
- 25:59Speaker 4: financial life? What said about because obviously a million dollars
- 26:03Speaker 4: saying oh, I wouldn't care if it's a million, Like
- 26:05Speaker 4: I get, I get where you're coming from. But also
- 26:09Speaker 4: there are people like Jess if that was looming over her,
- 26:11Speaker 4: she would even though you're right, it's not of a
- 26:16Speaker 4: lot of consequence totally.
- 26:18Speaker 2: And that's why I've been bankrupt and Jess has been no.
- 26:21Speaker 2: But I think everyone has different feelings.
- 26:23Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, and and and and like honestly, like I'm
- 26:25Speaker 6: at a point where I just I don't think not
- 26:28Speaker 6: at a point, like I feel like I've always been
- 26:29Speaker 6: like this, like education and learning is never a waste
- 26:33Speaker 6: of time or money.
- 26:34Speaker 2: And I'm like, even though.
- 26:35Speaker 6: I didn't finish anything just because I've got to like
- 26:38Speaker 6: exam like this, but yeah, I learned so much, I
- 26:42Speaker 6: think from all these things, and I don't regret that
- 26:46Speaker 6: at all. But yeah, I think just because it's like
- 26:48Speaker 6: I'm not seeing it. If it was like money I
- 26:50Speaker 6: had to pay and had to remember to pay it
- 26:52Speaker 6: after different stories and after the money came in different story,
- 26:55Speaker 6: but I'm not seeing it exactly.
- 26:59Speaker 4: Yeah, And like I can completely see where you're coming from. Jess,
- 27:02Speaker 4: you mentioned something before, like about the debt not continuing.
- 27:07Speaker 4: I have said on this podcast before Hex Slash Help,
- 27:11Speaker 4: debt is the only debt that dies with you. And
- 27:14Speaker 4: when I say that, I mean it is the only
- 27:16Speaker 4: debt that is canceled out.
- 27:19Speaker 2: When you die. It's a little bit morbid, but.
- 27:20Speaker 4: I think it's important for you to understand that because
- 27:22Speaker 4: I think a lot of us get stressed about the
- 27:24Speaker 4: idea of passing on debt to our kids or our
- 27:27Speaker 4: family or our friends or whatever. That looks like, I mean,
- 27:30Speaker 4: you do have to wrap up your tax return. So
- 27:33Speaker 4: say you die, Like, let's just be real morbid here.
- 27:35Speaker 4: Let's say I died in February. Next month, that means
- 27:40Speaker 4: I'm still going to my state will have to submit
- 27:43Speaker 4: a tax return in June. So June thirty comes, I
- 27:47Speaker 4: need to do my tax return, and whatever Hex's debt
- 27:50Speaker 4: I had owing for that period, I need to pay.
- 27:53Speaker 2: But the rest of the debt would get wiped because
- 27:55Speaker 2: I'm now deceased.
- 27:56Speaker 4: And I think that that's important to understand because it
- 27:59Speaker 4: doesn't make up part of your estate. So let's say
- 28:02Speaker 4: you have a thirty thousand dollar hex stet and one
- 28:03Speaker 4: hundred thousand dollars in savings. If that was like credit
- 28:06Speaker 4: card debt, or if that was a home loan, or
- 28:08Speaker 4: if that was any other type of personal loan, what
- 28:11Speaker 4: would happen with your estate? And estate is a fancy
- 28:14Speaker 4: word for saying all your stuff in one bucket that
- 28:18Speaker 4: you owned when you die, your estate would pay for that. So,
- 28:22Speaker 4: say you've got your debt, all of that would be
- 28:24Speaker 4: you know, organized, and you'd get seventy thousand dollars out
- 28:27Speaker 4: of that to distribute to your friends and family when
- 28:30Speaker 4: you pass away.
- 28:30Speaker 2: In your will.
- 28:31Speaker 4: However, hext doesn't come into your little bucket of your estate.
- 28:35Speaker 2: It doesn't come in and.
- 28:35Speaker 4: Say, hey, just so you know you still owned the
- 28:37Speaker 4: government thirty grand. They'll just go, you died, don't worry
- 28:41Speaker 4: about it, like that was bad enough, so they don't
- 28:44Speaker 4: take it from you. And I think that that is
- 28:45Speaker 4: a really important point, because a lot of people are
- 28:49Speaker 4: making the decision to just not care about their hex
- 28:53Speaker 4: stet anymore. They're like, I see it's index at two
- 28:55Speaker 4: point seven percent. I see that that means that, you know,
- 28:58Speaker 4: if I have a sixty thousand dollars come and I've
- 29:00Speaker 4: got thirty thousand dollars owing, I'm going to be paying
- 29:03Speaker 4: six hundred bucks a.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Year on that for forever more. I just don't care.
- 29:08Speaker 4: Like that's what a lot of people are deciding, because
- 29:10Speaker 4: they look at it and they go, even if I
- 29:12Speaker 4: extinguished that amount of money, So even if I saved
- 29:15Speaker 4: up thirty thousand dollars and paid off that entire hextet,
- 29:18Speaker 4: it doesn't actually put me even in a better borrowing situation.
- 29:21Speaker 4: Like getting rid of that hextet doesn't mean that I'm
- 29:23Speaker 4: going to increase my borrowing capacity. I'd actually prefer to
- 29:26Speaker 4: have that thirty thousand dollars in my savings account or
- 29:29Speaker 4: invested or in property or somewhere else.
- 29:31Speaker 2: So a lot of.
- 29:32Speaker 4: People are deprioritizing paying off their hexts. Is that the
- 29:35Speaker 4: right thing to do? Who knows, It's just an experience
- 29:38Speaker 4: that's happening in our community. But yes, there are definitely
- 29:42Speaker 4: people who are going to have their hex debts forever.
- 29:45Speaker 4: And do I think that's a negative thing? Honestly no,
- 29:49Speaker 4: Because you were able to get the education that you
- 29:52Speaker 4: consented to. You knew how much it was going to
- 29:55Speaker 4: be and what the repayments would look like and how
- 29:57Speaker 4: that worked, and maybe it just doesn't work out that
- 30:01Speaker 4: you paid off forever. I'm just glad that we don't
- 30:03Speaker 4: have an education financing system like the US, where it
- 30:07Speaker 4: becomes completely crippling to get into student debt. And I
- 30:12Speaker 4: also love that our system means that if you lose
- 30:15Speaker 4: your income or you don't have you know, the income
- 30:18Speaker 4: needed to pay back, you don't have to. So I
- 30:20Speaker 4: think there's a lot, like there's pros and cons, like
- 30:22Speaker 4: nobody wants to die in debt, but I think we
- 30:25Speaker 4: also need to remember that we're getting a lot from that.
- 30:27Speaker 4: And even if you are earning a sixty thousand dollars
- 30:30Speaker 4: part time income, yes, you're paying back your debt, but
- 30:34Speaker 4: you got this massive degree and maybe part time, like
- 30:37Speaker 4: part time sixty grand, that's a good income. That's why
- 30:41Speaker 4: you're able to earn it. Maybe because you went to UNI,
- 30:44Speaker 4: you were able to get this good job with the
- 30:46Speaker 4: degree that you had, and now that's just like paying
- 30:49Speaker 4: the way of being able to do that.
- 30:51Speaker 2: So true.
- 30:52Speaker 4: So I just think there's a lot to it. And
- 30:54Speaker 4: I think people put a lot of importance on smashing
- 30:57Speaker 4: down the hextet without talking about the bigger repercussions. And
- 31:01Speaker 4: there have been when I was a financial advisor a
- 31:04Speaker 4: lot of people that I sat down with that would
- 31:06Speaker 4: be like.
- 31:06Speaker 2: Oh my god, V I'm so glad I'm here.
- 31:08Speaker 4: I've got, you know, all of these savings and all
- 31:10Speaker 4: of this hex stet, and we need to get rid
- 31:12Speaker 4: of the hex stet and then next we'll do and
- 31:14Speaker 4: then we do their financial advice and paying more off
- 31:16Speaker 4: the hex stet was never part of the plan. So
- 31:19Speaker 4: I think it's just take it with a grain of salt.
- 31:22Speaker 4: Debt can be scary, but that's one of the debts
- 31:24Speaker 4: that's not good or bad.
- 31:25Speaker 2: Debt just sits in the middle. Yes's gray, Yeah, she's grey.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Should we get into the juice? Juicyday? It was hex
- 31:33Speaker 2: stet and you dying not juicy enough. It's a little
- 31:37Speaker 2: bit sad. I'm ready for the good stuff. I'm always
- 31:40Speaker 2: ready for the good stuff. Are you ready? We got
- 31:41Speaker 2: a DM.
- 31:42Speaker 4: DM said, Hey, she's on the money. I am in
- 31:45Speaker 4: an awkward situation. My friend wanted to save some money
- 31:48Speaker 4: on renos before their baby arrived, so they asked me
- 31:51Speaker 4: to help paint their house.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Great cool, We've all done that checks out so far.
- 31:55Speaker 4: Of course, I said yes, how could I not? But
- 31:57Speaker 4: while I was moving the ladder, it slipped and I
- 32:00Speaker 4: accidentally knocked over their brand new TV that was propped
- 32:02Speaker 4: up waiting to be mounted. Now they're asking me to
- 32:06Speaker 4: pay for it, and I feel awful, But I kind
- 32:09Speaker 4: of feel like it wouldn't have happened if they hadn't
- 32:11Speaker 4: asked me for help in the first place. I was
- 32:14Speaker 4: doing them a favor to save some money, and now
- 32:16Speaker 4: I'm the one out of pocket. Am I being unreasonable
- 32:19Speaker 4: for thinking I shouldn't have to pay? I would love
- 32:22Speaker 4: to hear the team's thoughts.
- 32:27Speaker 2: That is actually really hard. This is really like.
- 32:31Speaker 4: My tongue so hard.
- 32:36Speaker 2: I just think, like maybe go hard.
- 32:39Speaker 6: I just that is a really really good because I'm like,
- 32:41Speaker 6: if your friends were going to pay, Like so, I
- 32:43Speaker 6: don't know how much a pain to cost, but let's
- 32:45Speaker 6: say two thousand dollars for a painter.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Yeah, you go about that.
- 32:47Speaker 4: Because I am currently having my house repainted. Oh yeah, yep,
- 32:51Speaker 4: we've got some quotes, so two grand yep.
- 32:54Speaker 2: It is an accident, it really does. I get it.
- 32:56Speaker 6: Like it feels so crappy when you're not doing I
- 33:00Speaker 6: don't know if this our listener is doing really well financially,
- 33:04Speaker 6: not doing well financially, whatever it is. But like when
- 33:06Speaker 6: you're in a situation where.
- 33:07Speaker 4: Respect it's about the blame game. It's not about how
- 33:09Speaker 4: much money you've got your account totally responsibility.
- 33:12Speaker 2: Is this broken? Tell exactly?
- 33:13Speaker 6: And it's like it's when you accidentally do something, you
- 33:17Speaker 6: have no intention of anything, and all of a sudden
- 33:21Speaker 6: you're in the whole like five k. I don't know,
- 33:24Speaker 6: I'm assuming it's like five k if it's like a
- 33:25Speaker 6: big one that's need to be mounted on a TV.
- 33:28Speaker 2: How much are these days? I don't know, but there's
- 33:30Speaker 2: no way I'd spend five.
- 33:33Speaker 8: It's like on a big black I don't know. That's
- 33:37Speaker 8: that's a that's a blue job in our house, a
- 33:38Speaker 8: big old. It was all my boyfriend tell me how
- 33:44Speaker 8: much today sale.
- 33:46Speaker 4: I'm not buying it totally. I think my last TV
- 33:49Speaker 4: was maybe fifteen hundred bucks. I didn't get the bigger
- 33:51Speaker 4: one because I was like, I'm not spending that.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I mean you can get. It really depends
- 33:55Speaker 2: on how small.
- 33:56Speaker 6: Sure sure, sure, sure, yeah, I've aways just had one.
- 33:59Speaker 6: I have no idea how, but anyway, so this, you know,
- 34:02Speaker 6: it really sucks when that happens.
- 34:03Speaker 2: I understand that.
- 34:04Speaker 6: You're kind of like if the think of it from
- 34:07Speaker 6: their side, if they're like, oh, this brand new TV,
- 34:10Speaker 6: we've saved up for this and we're so excited to
- 34:12Speaker 6: use it. My friend accidentally broke it totally totally not
- 34:16Speaker 6: their fault.
- 34:16Speaker 2: They here to help me. Maybe let's try and find
- 34:19Speaker 2: a way where we can go halves or or something.
- 34:24Speaker 6: I just don't know that it's either one's responsibility completely,
- 34:30Speaker 6: I think, but you guys look like you.
- 34:32Speaker 2: Definitely don't agree. So I'm gonna.
- 34:36Speaker 4: Beg if you came to my No, you know what
- 34:38Speaker 4: I want, justice opinion. I want justice opinion. Jess, what
- 34:41Speaker 4: are your thoughts to me?
- 34:42Speaker 2: It's not a gray area, like if you damage it,
- 34:45Speaker 2: jes As Like, No, I just think if you.
- 34:47Speaker 8: Damage something that is not yours, your responsibility is to
- 34:52Speaker 8: fix it or pay for it to be fixed.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Right, because I think if you like broaden it. Oh,
- 34:57Speaker 2: Victoria does not agree. I don't.
- 34:59Speaker 8: I don't think because I think that like if you
- 35:01Speaker 8: take I think, helping them paint their house, you have
- 35:04Speaker 8: to take that out of it.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Like why you were there is irrelevant to me.
- 35:08Speaker 8: Yeah, okay, if I'm at anyone's house for any reason.
- 35:11Speaker 8: It's like if you hit somebody's car, Like it doesn't
- 35:13Speaker 8: matter if I was doing a good deed in stopping
- 35:15Speaker 8: so the ducklings could cross.
- 35:16Speaker 2: Like I hit someone's car.
- 35:20Speaker 8: Like, I just think the reason you're there is not
- 35:23Speaker 8: Like I understand that. Maybe for in our listener's mind,
- 35:26Speaker 8: they're like, oh, I was doing a nice thing, and
- 35:28Speaker 8: that nice thing is but I totally get that that's
- 35:30Speaker 8: a shitty feeling. But like you've broken Like I just
- 35:35Speaker 8: I think I know what VD is gonna say. But
- 35:37Speaker 8: my opinion is like, you are responsible for your actions
- 35:40Speaker 8: in this world, and be they accidental or be they intentional.
- 35:45Speaker 8: It's not fair to expect somebody else to foot the
- 35:47Speaker 8: bill for something that you've done.
- 35:49Speaker 6: Right, I was just sorry if it is despert to talk,
- 35:54Speaker 6: despert to talk. But also I do agree. And it's
- 35:56Speaker 6: also like, if you're doing good deed, there shouldn't be
- 35:59Speaker 6: any like things like, oh, then that means that I
- 36:03Speaker 6: can either get away with this, or you'll do this
- 36:05Speaker 6: for me or whatever. It's just like you're just doing
- 36:07Speaker 6: a nice thing for a friend. Yeah, yeah, that is separate.
- 36:09Speaker 6: I see what you're saying. Anyway, so I speaking the
- 36:11Speaker 6: first time we've all had completely no opinion. I was
- 36:13Speaker 6: going to say this is I don't think this has
- 36:14Speaker 6: ever happened before you knew us.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Wow, just what is my opinion? What do you think
- 36:19Speaker 2: my opinion is?
- 36:19Speaker 8: I know that you're going to say that when you
- 36:22Speaker 8: invited somebody to your house you took on the risk
- 36:24Speaker 8: or whatever.
- 36:27Speaker 2: Why was your TV out while you're painting? I mean
- 36:30Speaker 2: totally fair, were only mounted yet?
- 36:33Speaker 4: Okay, all right, it's on the floor. Why is the
- 36:36Speaker 4: TV in a room where you've got a.
- 36:38Speaker 2: Massive ladder ah see, So you're.
- 36:40Speaker 4: Telling me you've got a ladder that could potentially fall over,
- 36:44Speaker 4: like a dodgy one at that, and there's a massive
- 36:47Speaker 4: TV that is a hazard in this Like, are we
- 36:50Speaker 4: not clearing the room to paint the room? Like, yeah,
- 36:54Speaker 4: that would have been, but we're not getting rid of
- 36:55Speaker 4: all of the expensive things while getting paint out.
- 36:59Speaker 2: Paint on a televis to begin with.
- 37:00Speaker 4: Terrible outcome ladder Like literally, you've got amateurs climbing up
- 37:06Speaker 4: a ladder and you thought leaving the TV on the
- 37:09Speaker 4: ground is a good idea.
- 37:12Speaker 2: It's a good point. It is a good point. Now
- 37:14Speaker 2: I really wanted to know how it happens.
- 37:15Speaker 4: I need to know so much about this situation. But also,
- 37:20Speaker 4: say Jess comes to my house. I know, like Jess
- 37:23Speaker 4: is the sweetest person ever. If I said Jess, I
- 37:24Speaker 4: need help painting my house, what's she going to say.
- 37:27Speaker 2: I'll be there at ten. Yeah sounds fun.
- 37:29Speaker 4: She's not getting up early to do it, but she'll
- 37:33Speaker 4: be there with bells on. And then she climbs up
- 37:36Speaker 4: a ladder to help me paint. I know she's an amateur.
- 37:38Speaker 4: I know she's never done this. She falls off the
- 37:41Speaker 4: ladder and breaks her leg. Who's faults at I.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Still put that on me, Like I'm the one who's
- 37:48Speaker 2: fallen off the ladder.
- 37:49Speaker 4: Yeah, but like you're in my house on my dodgy
- 37:52Speaker 4: ladder that I should have been like, just be really careful.
- 37:57Speaker 4: But like I just I think that that is your
- 38:01Speaker 4: fault for leaving the TV out in a space where
- 38:04Speaker 4: you were doing amateur DIY, Like you've left a TV out, Like,
- 38:09Speaker 4: I know, it's really shitty. I know that you don't
- 38:12Speaker 4: want to have to buy another TV, and I know
- 38:15Speaker 4: that you're trying to save money, but I think that
- 38:17Speaker 4: was a cost where you go, oh, I'm.
- 38:19Speaker 2: So sorry you fell off the ladder, Jess.
- 38:21Speaker 4: Yeah, like that's a safety issue that you didn't like
- 38:25Speaker 4: Jess came to my house, she fell off my ladder
- 38:27Speaker 4: because I didn't protect her to do like, yeah, we're
- 38:30Speaker 4: doing something that she's never done before. But like, she
- 38:33Speaker 4: didn't sign up to fall off ladder. She didn't like
- 38:36Speaker 4: she signed up to paint some walls that should be
- 38:38Speaker 4: relatively inconsequential. It might be dodgy, there might be runs
- 38:42Speaker 4: all over the walls, who knows, but that's the risk
- 38:44Speaker 4: I'm taking. Would you then sue Jess or be mad
- 38:47Speaker 4: if like Jess did a really shitty job of painting
- 38:50Speaker 4: the wall, so like flip it around. We're going to
- 38:52Speaker 4: talk about another financial impact. Jess comes to my house,
- 38:56Speaker 4: she paints my walls, but she wasn't clean out the brush.
- 39:00Speaker 4: She like kept putting it on the ground. There's a
- 39:02Speaker 4: dirt in the brush, wos She's just kept painting the
- 39:05Speaker 4: walls whatever. There's runs all over the walls. There's bits
- 39:08Speaker 4: of dirt in the walls. She's gone home, it's dried.
- 39:11Speaker 4: I have to then pay someone to come back and
- 39:14Speaker 4: fix that because she's messed it up.
- 39:16Speaker 2: Who's paying for that? I see what you're saying, Okay, ah, but.
- 39:23Speaker 4: Yeah, just did that, but did like I mean, I'm
- 39:25Speaker 4: making just pay for it. If she got frustrated at
- 39:27Speaker 4: the paint brush through it across the room and kicked
- 39:29Speaker 4: my TV, breaking it. Just didn't mean to break the
- 39:38Speaker 4: TV and I left it in a spot where it
- 39:41Speaker 4: could be broken when it definitely shouldn't have been there
- 39:44Speaker 4: in the first place. And what now I'm going to
- 39:46Speaker 4: financially impact my friend who was doing a good deed
- 39:49Speaker 4: coming to my house to help me. Absolutely not interesting,
- 39:52Speaker 4: I would say.
- 39:53Speaker 8: Asked if they have content insurance and can you pay
- 39:55Speaker 8: their excess payment? That would be my solution.
- 39:57Speaker 2: We were for TV.
- 39:59Speaker 8: Yeah, oh yeah, make a content Yeah.
- 40:03Speaker 4: I come to your house like flip it. You've had
- 40:06Speaker 4: issues with your walls, You've had it, like I come
- 40:08Speaker 4: and help. I'm standing on your bedside table. I'm trying
- 40:11Speaker 4: to help you patch up the wall and the roof
- 40:13Speaker 4: like we're sticking Marley's.
- 40:15Speaker 2: Spoon, you know.
- 40:18Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, you know, you know, but like that's what
- 40:20Speaker 4: I'm doing for you. I trip, I fall, I break
- 40:23Speaker 4: your bedside lamp. Am I buying you a new lamp?
- 40:27Speaker 2: I wouldn't ask you to know? Okay, why wouldn't you
- 40:29Speaker 2: ask me to Well, I feel like I would be like, well,
- 40:32Speaker 2: you've done. I get with you.
- 40:34Speaker 4: But I'm still also.
- 40:35Speaker 8: Like I don't know, maybe it's just me, but if
- 40:37Speaker 8: I had fallen and broken the lamp, I do think
- 40:38Speaker 8: I would still say.
- 40:39Speaker 4: You would often replace the lamp. Yeah, I know you would,
- 40:42Speaker 4: because you're a kind person. Would I let you? No,
- 40:45Speaker 4: you wouldn't exactly, And it's because it was like.
- 40:50Speaker 2: I should have moved the lamp, Yeah, should the lamp?
- 40:53Speaker 4: Should the lamp have been on the bedside table when
- 40:56Speaker 4: I was climbing up there. No, should I have thought
- 40:59Speaker 4: about moving it myself? Probably, but it's not my house life.
- 41:02Speaker 7: I know.
- 41:02Speaker 6: But I'm like, I'm really thinking about like both parties,
- 41:05Speaker 6: and I do think they should maybe split the different things.
- 41:07Speaker 4: You should have a conversation. But i'd pay by in
- 41:09Speaker 4: storm of something.
- 41:10Speaker 6: But I just know that when I bought my new phone,
- 41:11Speaker 6: for examples, like a thousand dollars, and I saved it
- 41:14Speaker 6: for a long time.
- 41:15Speaker 2: For that was the whole thing.
- 41:16Speaker 6: If one of my friends was like, oh my god,
- 41:18Speaker 6: let me see your phone and then dropped it and
- 41:19Speaker 6: broke it, I'll be like, I'd be like, oh, that's okay,
- 41:22Speaker 6: And then inside you'd I'd be like, I will never
- 41:26Speaker 6: financially and actually recover. And I would be like, I
- 41:30Speaker 6: want them to pay because they broke it. And so
- 41:32Speaker 6: I can understand both.
- 41:34Speaker 2: I gotta know whatever I know, Okay, Okay, so you
- 41:37Speaker 2: know whatever I say.
- 41:37Speaker 4: I'm feeling validated. Just so you guys know. We asked
- 41:41Speaker 4: the community and we said, if you were the homeowner,
- 41:44Speaker 4: would you ask your friend to help pay seventy one percent?
- 41:47Speaker 4: And you said no, I asked them for help twenty
- 41:50Speaker 4: nine percent and said, yeah, they broke it.
- 41:52Speaker 8: Yeah, I don't think i'd ask them to pay, but
- 41:55Speaker 8: I would hope that they would offer or I would.
- 41:59Speaker 4: Then I asked, if you were the friend who broke
- 42:01Speaker 4: the TV, would you pay for it? Forty percent of you,
- 42:04Speaker 4: which is the highest percentage, says yes, I broke it.
- 42:07Speaker 4: So it's giving Jess energy. It's giving Jess energy.
- 42:10Speaker 2: So she's like, oh, I'd offer. But then I'm like,
- 42:12Speaker 2: but I wouldn't make you pay. Yeah, right.
- 42:15Speaker 4: Thirty seven percent of you said yes, but only to
- 42:17Speaker 4: stop the drama, and twenty three percent of you said no,
- 42:22Speaker 4: I'd tell them I wasn't paying. Awkward we did then
- 42:26Speaker 4: say all right, we need your two cents.
- 42:28Speaker 2: Yeah, tell us more.
- 42:29Speaker 4: First person said were they getting paid to paint?
- 42:33Speaker 2: No? Then no? Yes, then okay to contribute. Oh that's
- 42:37Speaker 2: an interesting sat stick.
- 42:39Speaker 4: Someone else said, I would have moved it to a
- 42:41Speaker 4: safer place before opening a ladder in that room. To
- 42:46Speaker 4: my own heart. Someone else said, this is just Jess
- 42:49Speaker 4: coded at least for it. I just think our community,
- 42:53Speaker 4: our community, and we share one brain cell used to
- 42:56Speaker 4: just be Jess and I. Everybody give me your brains
- 42:59Speaker 4: are they said they should have had insurance. If not
- 43:02Speaker 4: hiring professionals and not set up carefully for you their fault.
- 43:08Speaker 4: I'm not getting insurance if I am not paying a
- 43:10Speaker 4: professional painter, like low key, I have a professional painter to
- 43:13Speaker 4: come with insurance. Yeah, but like if I'm asking Jess
- 43:16Speaker 4: to come over and help with paint, I'll pay you.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:20Speaker 4: Like we're ordering a pizza at the end of the day,
- 43:22Speaker 4: and hopefully it's a nice day, We're going to eat
- 43:23Speaker 4: it outside with an apparol.
- 43:25Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what I mean. Yeah. Someone else said,
- 43:28Speaker 2: you break it, you buy it. I mean that's yeah,
- 43:31Speaker 2: it's a good sign. But Christmas anymore. But you can
- 43:36Speaker 2: still ride the wave. Yeah.
- 43:39Speaker 4: Someone else said, I can't imagine asking my friend to pay,
- 43:41Speaker 4: but I would pay if I was the friend.
- 43:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that's why I suggested all the comments.
- 43:46Speaker 4: Someone else said, seems they value the TV more than
- 43:49Speaker 4: their friend and their time. If they're asking for money
- 43:52Speaker 4: but won't pay their friend.
- 43:56Speaker 2: Do you do you reckon the painters would have to pay.
- 43:59Speaker 4: Imagine it short, but imagine I imagine so Jess comes
- 44:03Speaker 4: to my house, she breaks my TV because she's fallen
- 44:05Speaker 4: off my dodgy ladder and I say, Jess, you need
- 44:08Speaker 4: to pay for that.
- 44:09Speaker 2: You need to pay for the Telly just goes, no worries.
- 44:12Speaker 4: He's an invoice for my time.
- 44:13Speaker 8: Literally, yeah, right to that off that, to take it
- 44:18Speaker 8: off the top.
- 44:20Speaker 2: Pinting right then, Oh my gosh.
- 44:23Speaker 4: Someone else said I would pay for it to stop
- 44:25Speaker 4: the drama and then never be friends with them again.
- 44:27Speaker 5: Oh what.
- 44:29Speaker 4: Imagine like, guys, because we're not saying that you're fighting
- 44:33Speaker 4: or that there's any animosity. I suppose we're saying you
- 44:36Speaker 4: broake the TV. We just want to know who's fold
- 44:38Speaker 4: it is. You're going to cut a friend out, if
- 44:40Speaker 4: my friendship, if my friendship is so fragile that a
- 44:44Speaker 4: broken TV is going to fracture it, keep it, keep
- 44:47Speaker 4: the broken TV.
- 44:48Speaker 2: I don't need you as my friend.
- 44:50Speaker 6: I mean, because there are valid points on both sides,
- 44:52Speaker 6: you don't really chuck it in.
- 44:54Speaker 4: Someone else said, doing a favor doesn't mean you're exempt
- 44:56Speaker 4: from righting wrongs, even if accidental.
- 45:00Speaker 2: That's dramatic.
- 45:01Speaker 4: Someone else said if they wanted to save money by
- 45:03Speaker 4: having someone that's not a professional with insurance, that's on them.
- 45:07Speaker 4: They also shouldn't have left their brand new TV in
- 45:09Speaker 4: the room where the work was being done. Howder why
- 45:12Speaker 4: was the TV there? It's a great point anyway. You know,
- 45:15Speaker 4: there's always context missing from a lot of these dms,
- 45:20Speaker 4: which is fine. That makes it fun, that makes it spicy.

- 46:01Speaker 4: for a lot of people. I ran it last year
- 46:02Speaker 4: as kind of like a test because I knew it'd
- 46:04Speaker 4: be good. But I was like, let's just do it
- 46:06Speaker 4: late last year, see how it goes, so that I
- 46:07Speaker 4: could set everybody up for success in the new year.
- 46:10Speaker 4: And I think it is going to be the perfect
- 46:12Speaker 4: way to start your year on a financial high. So
- 46:14Speaker 4: that is running on the eighth of January, and I
- 46:16Speaker 4: will put all the information in the show notes.
