- 0:21Hello, everyone.

- 0:29Some of you wanted to hear my birth story.
- 0:31So first of all, I just want to say thank you for every single one of you who have checked in with me, asked how I am doing as to how baby is doing.
- 0:38Gannon is absolutely amazing.
- 0:40He he's the best little boy ever.
- 0:43And.
- 0:45I'll say I'm doing better.
- 0:45Postpartum has been a little different than what I expected, which we'll get into, but just know I appreciate every single one of you.
- 0:53Checking in.
- 0:54I.
- 0:55Fully recognize how great my.
- 0:58The village of support is my community.
- 1:01Not only with my family that is here in person.
- 1:04I'm extremely lucky to have such a great family that has helped with Gannon that has helped bring us dinner.
- 1:12Helping with cleaning the house.
- 1:13And I have a very supportive fiance as well.
- 1:17So we've been doing, we're figuring it all out.
- 1:19We're been good at tag teaming things.
- 1:22So it's been interesting and fun trying to find our new normal, but this episode, like I said, I'm going to talk about my birth story a little bit since, since this was requested.
- 1:31I know a lot of you are curious.
- 1:33But it is fun to hear that you guys.
- 1:35Are interested in kind of more of our personal life and just these little fun updates.
- 1:41So as always let us know if there is topics like this that you want us to talk about.
- 1:46Let's stay then.
- 1:47So I was due on July 3rd.
- 1:51That was my original due date.
- 1:54And since the beginning Baby had been measuring big, probably two to three weeks ahead of time.
- 2:01Especially his head, his belly and his legs.
- 2:05And.
- 2:07So we kinda knew he was probably going to be a bigger baby, but I was also measuring right on track the entire time, like my belly personally.
- 2:15So they weren't totally convinced that he was going to be as big as ultrasound was predicting, but.
- 2:21I'm for reference I'm five, three.
- 2:24I'm pretty small.
- 2:25And petite and dad, he is six, three.
- 2:29And so.
- 2:32There was still, he still had some genes that could make him a taller person.
- 2:37And.
- 2:39So as we progressed, he continued to measure big and it was actually kind of looking back.
- 2:45It was a really good pregnancy the whole time I really worked to stay active.
- 2:51I'm so glad I did.
- 2:52I did stop strength training, probably like the last.
- 2:56Two months.
- 2:57And I mainly just focused on walking because I.
- 3:01Ended up being like in a lot of pain.
- 3:03I was having some leg pains going on, not too sure what that was about.
- 3:08They think that maybe he was just sitting so low and hitting a nerve.
- 3:11I always explained it like Barbie doll legs.
- 3:14Like, if you were to take a Barbie doll and just split their legs in half.
- 3:18That's what I felt like my legs were doing.
- 3:20So I stopped during training.
- 3:21I really just focused on my walking.
- 3:24And I'm so glad I did, because I think it really just helped me have a good pregnancy physically, but also mentally.
- 3:31Fun fact, I actually went and walked a mile.
- 3:33The day I was in labor.
- 3:36So.
- 3:38With that on June 5th, I had my doctor's appointment at this point.
- 3:43I was going once a week.
- 3:44And it was the first time I was being checked to see if I was dilated.
- 3:48I was actually dilated to four centimeters.
- 3:51And doctor is very surprised, especially with me being a first time mom being so progressed and I was 36 weeks.
- 3:59I believe.
- 4:00So.
- 4:01It's still a little early 37 weeks is what they would like.
- 4:04It's more considered kind of full term.
- 4:07So.
- 4:08She did say she's like, honestly, if you go, it won't be the worst thing because he's measuring bigger.
- 4:13So not too concerned there, but it could be any time now, like go home, pack your hospital bags.
- 4:19I was like, oh, Okay.
- 4:20Like this could be happening.
- 4:21And I work with a bunch of chiropractors and some nurses and such therapists.
- 4:26So lots of healthcare professionals.
- 4:28And I came back to work in the, like, you're going to have a baby by like this week.
- 4:32I was like, oh, Okay.
- 4:34So I was like, kind of preparing myself, we prepared.
- 4:38Everything else.
- 4:39Got the car seat in.
- 4:40Well that at any time now turned out to be a lot longer than expected.
- 4:44I was four centimeters dilated for a little over two weeks.
- 4:49So on June 19th, they did the membrane sweep, which if you have not had that done yet.
- 4:55Whew.
- 4:55It it's definitely not fun.
- 4:57And you feel terrible afterwards.
- 4:59It was a long day at work, following that.
- 5:02And on June 21st, it was a Friday and I started having some more contractions.
- 5:08I hadn't been having Braxton Hicks for probably about a month at this point.
- 5:12And.
- 5:14On June 21st.
- 5:15I started getting more consistent contractions.
- 5:17I had already gone to the hospital twice for like false alarm type things.
- 5:21And the last time I had gone was the weekend before.
- 5:24And I think I was a little bit more cautious because I knew I was already at four centimeters.
- 5:29So I didn't.
- 5:32One to like wait too long.
- 5:34And I also didn't know what to expect.
- 5:35So.
- 5:36I would try and time some contractions, but they weren't ever ones that were super painful or just like, oh, this is kind of uncomfortable.
- 5:43The last time you went.
- 5:44I had a very bad experience with a doctor on call.
- 5:49And to the point where she, she just kind of made me feel like an idiot, honestly.
- 5:53And she's like, I don't really know why you came.
- 5:55It was.
- 5:56I don't know.
- 5:56I thought I was having closer contractions.
- 6:00Apparently, I think they were just more kind of Braxton Hicks.
- 6:03And she's like, well, I mean, you can stay here and see what happens or just go home.
- 6:08I don't see any reason to keep you.
- 6:10Lots of other things were said, and it just really rubbed me the wrong way.
- 6:15And basically she was like, really you're going to know, because you're not going to be able to breathe.
- 6:19So of course me, I get in the car and tell Josh, I'm like, all right, we're not going back to the hospital until I am passed out.
- 6:26Not breathing.
- 6:28So on the 21st I did, I was having more consistent contractions there about five to seven minutes apart throughout the day.
- 6:36And if it's base, I'll be like more like seven minutes more often.
- 6:39I went on a walk.
- 6:41I finished out four of my clients with like, I just want to finish them.
- 6:44Like, I'm good.
- 6:44Like.
- 6:44What else am I going to do?
- 6:45Sit here.
- 6:46So had contractions throughout the day, towards the end of the night, they were more consistently like five minutes.
- 6:54They got to, some of them are about three minutes.
- 6:56So we were kind of like, Okay, let's start to get ready.
- 6:59And, but it was still to the point where I was like, well, I can still breathe.
- 7:04Then.
- 7:05As the night progressed, they did get more intense.
- 7:09And by like 10 o'clock that night, I had a few that did kind of put me into tears.
- 7:15And so I knew, I was like, okay, we're probably getting close 10 o'clock comes.
- 7:19And then they spaced out again to like 10 minutes apart.
- 7:23I was like, what in the world?
- 7:25Guess we're not going anywhere.
- 7:27So Josh was like, well, let's go lay down.
- 7:29Let's get some sleep in case like it is almost time.
- 7:33So he falls asleep.
- 7:35I'm laying in bed.
- 7:36I have a few more contractions again.
- 7:3710 minutes apart.
- 7:39These ones are super painful though.
- 7:41So by the third one, I remember laying there and I was contemplating.
- 7:45Should I just wake Josh up?
- 7:46I know they're farther apart, but they're super painful.
- 7:49Not even 30 seconds later, my water broke.
- 7:54And.
- 7:55It was the weirdest feeling ever.
- 7:57It was like a volcano of war.
- 7:58I was like, what, what, what, what, like, what is happening?
- 8:00Wait Josh up.
- 8:01I'm like, ah, I think my waters broke.
- 8:03And just interest kept coming out and he said he heard it pop.
- 8:06I don't really.
- 8:07I remember it popping.
- 8:09I just remember feeling like a relief of pressure.
- 8:11And I was like, oh, this kind of feels nice.
- 8:14So I get up, I take a shower.
- 8:16I'm like, oh, now I feel gross.
- 8:18And so I'm just hanging out and he's like, we need to go, like, what are you doing?
- 8:22Like I'm taking shower.
- 8:23Well then.
- 8:25It, we got a little bit more painful.
- 8:28If we say the show is like, oh God, we got to go.
- 8:30So I get out.
- 8:31My I'm still like leaking fluids.
- 8:33I changed clothes.
- 8:34Get in the car with packed house and everything.
- 8:37I leaked.
- 8:39I don't the fluids.
- 8:41Until we got to the hospital all through the hospital to go up to her room.
- 8:43I was like, I'm leaving a snail.
- 8:45True.
- 8:45Basically.
- 8:47And on the way to the hospital, I, for a second thought I was going to have the baby in the car having lots of pressure.
- 8:53And then we came up, there was a huge wreck.
- 8:56I, so I was like, all right, well, we're going to be stuck in traffic and I'm gonna have a baby in the car.
- 9:01And I would be traumatized for my first.
- 9:03Child.
- 9:04But we actually did not get stuck in any traffic.
- 9:07We made it to the hospital.
- 9:08It was about 1130.
- 9:10Once I got there at six and a half centimeters dilated.
- 9:13I was nine centimeters.
- 9:16By like 3:00 AM.
- 9:18So we started doing practice pushes.
- 9:20I was able to get my epidural and everything.
- 9:21When I got there, I did do the epidural.
- 9:24I got my practice pushes in.
- 9:26We did a couple, and then all of a sudden the nurse who was actually Josh's stepsister.
- 9:31So she got to deliver her nephew.
- 9:35So that was really cool, but it was nice to have someone I was familiar with kind of hanging out with, with us and lead me through what I was doing.
- 9:42I did not take any birthing classes.
- 9:45We just, it was a lot going on at the time.
- 9:47I didn't take him and we just went in and everything turned out fine.
- 9:52Do my practice pushes.
- 9:53And she was like, oh, okay, let's stop pushing because he is coming out.
- 9:57So they had already called the doctor.
- 10:00He was moving a little slower, cause I was a first time mom.
- 10:03And so he didn't expect me to progress quickly.
- 10:05I don't think.
- 10:07So we had to wait for the doctor.
- 10:09And Josh and my mom are in the room with me and they could see Gannon's hedge, just kind of sitting there, sat there for about 40 minutes.
- 10:17Waiting for the doctor and the whole time I was like, just watching the clock.
- 10:21It's like another 10 minutes past.
- 10:22I'm like, I'm just going to push, like, what are they going to do?
- 10:24Yell at me for putting out my baby.
- 10:27So I was watching the clock, just waiting for this doctor.
- 10:29He comes in.
- 10:31We're talking and he's like, so I hear this might be an eight pound baby.
- 10:35I was like, well, that's what they're estimating.
- 10:38But looking at you, I think six, maybe seven pounds.
- 10:41I don't think you're going to be pushing out eight pound or like okay, great.
- 10:44So then.
- 10:46They.
- 10:48We're like, if you were still feeling pressure, I was like how the pressure has not gone away.
- 10:51If you're still feeling pressure, go ahead and push.
- 10:55So I started pushing for pushes and he was out by the time his shoulder and heads were head, was out the doctor like, oh, wow.
- 11:02This is an eight pound baby.
- 11:05And I actually got to, once he was halfway out, I was able to pull them out the rest of the way, which is really cool.
- 11:11Josh thought it was crazy, but it was really neat to be able to do.
- 11:15And apparently this doctor likes to have moms do that.
- 11:18And I feel like I don't know what his reasoning is.
- 11:21Maybe it's just because it's something neat to experience.
- 11:25But I think it really helped me just to be distracted while I was getting like, stitched up, like everything else was happening.
- 11:30Cause then I just got to enjoy my brand new baby.
- 11:33So he was born at five 19.
- 11:37Yeah, and it pretty quickly were, especially for my first one, after that we had been up for 41 hours straight because I mean, we had woke up for work that Friday.
- 11:48Had the baby at five 19.
- 11:50And then it was a whole day of, we had visitors just in all with the baby.
- 11:55And so it was a very long.
- 11:58In continuous day.
- 12:00We did have him go sit with the nurses for a little bit, which was some advice that I was given.
- 12:06I did feel a little guilty at first.
- 12:08I'm like, I just had you and I'm just going to send you away.
- 12:10But.
- 12:12I was exhausted and I was like, I just need like two hours of sleep.
- 12:16So he did go with the nurses and he did just fine.
- 12:20He's been such a good baby.
- 12:21He's very snugly.
- 12:23And loves to be wrapped up.
- 12:25He actually loves being outside too.
- 12:27Like.
- 12:28It's like a light switch.
- 12:29If he's upset, we can just go outside and he's like, oh, I'm fine.
- 12:31Now.
- 12:32So it loves me outside, I guess.
- 12:34It's good that he's a summer baby.
- 12:37And I learned that he's been really good growing boy.
- 12:41He.
- 12:43It's definitely a good eater.
- 12:44Which is great as a dietician mom.
- 12:47And then I would say for myself, because I have had a lot of people check in, I'm doing better.
- 12:52Like I said at the beginning, postpartum was not what I expected.
- 12:56I feel like mentally, I struggled a little bit during pregnancy and right after birth, because.
- 13:02During pregnancy, they had some concerns with this kidney.
- 13:05So we had to do a couple check-ins on that.
- 13:08And then.
- 13:10They also had concerns with him being so big.
- 13:12Like, was he going to get stuck?
- 13:14Was he at risk for diabetes that I have gestational diabetes.
- 13:18So there was a couple of things going on through there throughout the pregnancy.
- 13:22And then once he was born, they found a slight heart murmur that they were watching.
- 13:27Because he was so big, they were concerned about blood sugars and then he's had some weird breathing.
- 13:33And then, because he came out so quickly, he also swallowed some fluids.
- 13:36So just a couple of things you were watching there.
- 13:38And it just, it felt like everything just kept adding up.
- 13:41So it was.
- 13:42Really hard on me mentally, especially as being a first time mom, and just like not knowing what to expect.
- 13:48And I just felt like it was one thing after the other.
- 13:52And then as far as me, like, I really, I really wanted to breastfeed.
- 13:56As a dietician and just a human in this world.
- 13:59It's been engraved in my head that breastfeeding is best.
- 14:03Like this is the best thing you can do for your kid.
- 14:05So I really wanted to do this.
- 14:07However at the hospital.
- 14:09I, I started trying breastfeeding.
- 14:13And at first with his blood sugar checks, it was really challenging because we had to time everything really right.
- 14:18So I was struggling there and we ended up doing some formula.
- 14:21Why we're there?
- 14:23And then I was also struggling to kind of have them latch.
- 14:26Like I just didn't know what I was doing.
- 14:29And I did have some help, so I felt a little bit better, but.
- 14:32By like day three.
- 14:34I just, I absolutely hated breastfeeding.
- 14:37It was, I don't know how to explain it.
- 14:40But.
- 14:41I just hated the feeling.
- 14:43Make me sick to my stomach.
- 14:45I would get a headache.
- 14:46I would just cry the whole time.
- 14:48I did not like it at all.
- 14:50So we did.
- 14:52Formula for the rest of that night.
- 14:54And the next morning before we went to his first pediatrician visit.
- 14:59While there, I kind of asked about thoughts on breastfeeding formula, like what she recommends and.
- 15:05I had another bad experience with this doctor.
- 15:07And she was basically like, well, whoever told you breastfeeding was easy.
- 15:12Like they're lying to you.
- 15:13I'm like, I'm not saying I just want to quit because it's too hard for me.
- 15:17I didn't expect to, just to be in a walk-on park.
- 15:20So then I had some guilt there.
- 15:21Like was I not doing enough for my kiddo?
- 15:25So I was like, okay, well, I'm just going to pump.
- 15:28So I started pumping.
- 15:29And so at this point, pumping and then bottle feeding.
- 15:33And it was a lot, it was super draining.
- 15:37I exhausted.
- 15:39Especially like night times with we were getting up, he was getting changed.
- 15:42She was getting fed.
- 15:43I had to pump like, it was a whole thing and I was pumping every two hours.
- 15:47And.
- 15:49It was a lot, like I said, and especially mentally.
- 15:52Oh, my.
- 15:54I, it was just too much.
- 15:55So I decided to start weening and introducing formula for him.
- 16:02And then I actually had mastitis.
- 16:04So I had mastitis on my left side.
- 16:07A week ago.
- 16:09Cured from that.
- 16:10I was on antibiotics.
- 16:12Got that all taken care of felt really good for four days.
- 16:15And now I have on my right side.
- 16:18So just.
- 16:20Like I said, I've been struggling mentally.
- 16:22With feeling like it's been one thing after the other, but I'm hopeful that we're on the.
- 16:28Uphill slope, downhill slope, whatever it is that we're getting better.
- 16:32I'm feeling much better today.
- 16:34I'm on another round of antibiotics.
- 16:37But I think.
- 16:38Where, some of you may relate to this as well is with breastfeeding.
- 16:43Like I, like I said, it's been great.
- 16:46That it's the best thing to do.
- 16:47But sometimes.
- 16:49It's okay.
- 16:50To make decisions that are going to be more beneficial in the long run.
- 16:55Pumping.
- 16:56It was not working for me.
- 16:58And that's okay.
- 16:59We don't have to do every single thing.
- 17:02The like a plus way.
- 17:03Sometimes we can just be a people.
- 17:05And at the end of the day, my baby's getting fed.
- 17:08He's happy.
- 17:09He's been transitioning very well to formula, which I'm very grateful for.
- 17:14And.
- 17:15I know everything's going to be okay.
- 17:17Right now.
- 17:19It could be a struggle at some points.
- 17:20I've had a few breakdowns and.
- 17:24I'm ready to enjoy my time with my baby.
- 17:26And these next few weeks that I have off work.
- 17:29So that is my birth story.
- 17:32I hope you enjoyed this episode.
- 17:35And.
- 17:36I appreciate it.
- 17:37Like I said, I appreciate every single one of you who have reached out who have checked on me.
- 17:42And.
- 17:43It's kind of funny, you guys like to hear about our personal lives and we get to share with our little mocktail minutes community.
- 17:49Don't forget to check out our episode with Katie this week as well.
- 17:53We cover postpartum, but also just mom life in general.
- 17:57So even if you just, if you didn't just have a baby, it's still going to be beneficial to you.
- 18:01Have a great rest of your day and we'll talk soon.
- 18:04Bye.
