- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, my name's Santasha Nabananga Bamblet. I'm a proud yr
- 0:04Speaker 1: the Order KERNI Whoalbury and a waddery woman. And before
- 0:08Speaker 1: we get started on She's on the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money, She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 1:00Speaker 2: for millennials who want financial freedom. Today, my friends, is Friday,
- 1:05Speaker 2: which means we usually get the team together, but Jess
- 1:08Speaker 2: is sick, so Beck, it's you and me today. I'm
- 1:10Speaker 2: okay with that look. I think it's gonna be fine.
- 1:13Speaker 2: I don't awful do the episode justice because Jess always
- 1:16Speaker 2: keeps us on track and we're the rogue ones. I'm
- 1:18Speaker 2: going to miss a what's this going to be called?
- 1:20Speaker 2: The B in B VB the VB episode? Yeah, all right,
- 1:26Speaker 2: So this week, as always, we're going to be sharing
- 1:27Speaker 2: our favorite money wins, which I get the privilege of doing.
- 1:31Speaker 2: We're going to be talking broke tips. Beck said something
- 1:34Speaker 2: about a banana before. I'm sure it's a secret. Okay, sorry.
- 1:38Speaker 2: We're also going to be answering a juicy money dilemma,
- 1:40Speaker 2: which this week is all about what to prioritize when
- 1:43Speaker 2: returning from maternity leave. And we're going to be unpacking
- 1:46Speaker 2: something that you slid into our DMS about which this week, Beck,
- 1:49Speaker 2: we're going to be talking about a topic that he
- 1:50Speaker 2: gives me the ig. Yeah, housemates who let their friends
- 1:54Speaker 2: use your room when you're on Oh, oh my god,
- 1:58Speaker 2: it's gonna be a little bit gross. But this first
- 2:00Speaker 2: things first, my love, how was your week? My week
- 2:03Speaker 2: was really good. I went to Actually it's a four.
- 2:06Speaker 2: It's been a full week.
- 2:07Speaker 4: I feel rejuvenated, I feel great. I feel like it's
- 2:09Speaker 4: been a good week. It's been a really really good week.
- 2:12Speaker 4: So a lot of friends and did a lot of
- 2:13Speaker 4: things and did a lot of chores and that's really exciting.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it's very fun, not just working my life away.
- 2:20Speaker 2: I am halfway through not recording, but scripting up and
- 2:23Speaker 2: like doing all the research, which always takes me the
- 2:25Speaker 2: longest of our investing masterclass. It's is coming out soon. Yeah,
- 2:30Speaker 2: I'm really excited about it. I asked a question in
- 2:32Speaker 2: the Facebook group the other day and I was just like, hey, guys,
- 2:35Speaker 2: like I'm putting these together, Like what do you need
- 2:37Speaker 2: to know? Because obviously I've already done so much research.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I've written a book on investing, but I just want
- 2:42Speaker 2: to jam pack so much more into it. Like I
- 2:44Speaker 2: genuinely think that maybe like ten percent of what I
- 2:47Speaker 2: talk about in the course is like in the book. Right,
- 2:50Speaker 2: It's like just gone real rogue like because it's my
- 2:52Speaker 2: course and I don't have a producer or an editor
- 2:54Speaker 2: in the same way that I had a book. I'm like, well,
- 2:56Speaker 2: that's staying in. That's staying in. I'm the boss here.
- 2:59Speaker 2: So yeah. I asked the group what you guys want,
- 3:02Speaker 2: and I was like, hey, what can I include? And
- 3:04Speaker 2: there were just so many good suggestions. So I went
- 3:06Speaker 2: back to the drawing board and I like, redid my skeleton.
- 3:09Speaker 2: And we're halfway there, which means I'm recording it soon,
- 3:12Speaker 2: which means it will launch soon. And I'm very excited
- 3:14Speaker 2: about it. That's lost. So maybe nobody else cares about
- 3:17Speaker 2: an investing master class. I do because I think it's
- 3:20Speaker 2: gonna be lit. So that's mainly what I have done
- 3:23Speaker 2: literally a week. Wow. Wow, I get like hyper fixated
- 3:26Speaker 2: on something. Yeah, so like I've been doing it. Not
- 3:29Speaker 2: that you should brag about how many hours you're putting in,
- 3:31Speaker 2: but like I'm like up to like ten eleven every
- 3:34Speaker 2: night doing this, like on the couch. Sure, just because
- 3:37Speaker 2: I'm just so excited. I'm like, oh yep. And then
- 3:39Speaker 2: like I just keep typing and my husband's like, I'll
- 3:42Speaker 2: just play video games this week. I guess that is
- 3:45Speaker 2: very exciting me.
- 3:46Speaker 4: You're a very hard worker and I'm very very impressed
- 3:49Speaker 4: by everything you do.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't even know if it's hard work. I've
- 3:52Speaker 2: just got a hyperfixation at the moment. So that's a symptom, right,
- 3:55Speaker 2: you know what. We'll just Yeah, it's definitely an ADHD scotcha.
- 3:59Speaker 2: I'm definitely hyper excited on it. So we're definitely not
- 4:01Speaker 2: going to be putting the same hours in moving forward.
- 4:03Speaker 2: But like you get what you get and you don't
- 4:06Speaker 2: get up exactly all right. So this is where I
- 4:08Speaker 2: usually would hand over to our friend Jessica and be like, Hey,
- 4:11Speaker 2: what community money wins have you got this week? Beck,
- 4:15Speaker 2: She's not here? No, so do we just skip? Absolutely?
- 4:19Speaker 2: I've got them. Are you ready? I'm ready. I've rounded
- 4:22Speaker 2: up my favorites. Okay, first things first, Rosalie, She says,
- 4:26Speaker 2: money loss. I bought a ten pack of nuggets and
- 4:28Speaker 2: they only had nine in there.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Oh, it's usually the other way around. You usually get
- 4:32Speaker 4: a few more, you don't usually get less.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that's really rude. That's really rude. I'd be salty
- 4:38Speaker 2: about that too. We've got a money whin from Katie,
- 4:40Speaker 2: who's new to our community. Hi Katie, she says, I
- 4:44Speaker 2: have three kids, and I used our separate door Dash
- 4:46Speaker 2: accounts and I used the one dollar deal promotion for
- 4:50Speaker 2: an easy Sunday night takeaway dinner. Four burghers and chips
- 4:53Speaker 2: cost me four bucks. No way, is that a good money?
- 4:56Speaker 4: Way?
- 4:56Speaker 5: Very sick.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Maybe we'll talk about this off, Mike, but I really
- 5:01Speaker 2: want to know how. So door Dash had a promotion recently,
- 5:04Speaker 2: spob I don't know, we can google it, but they
- 5:08Speaker 2: had a promotion recently where one item from like random menus,
- 5:13Speaker 2: So it would depend on what area you were in.
- 5:15Speaker 2: But like some burger places were like, okay, we'll out
- 5:17Speaker 2: chicken burger today is a dollar and so she clearly
- 5:20Speaker 2: has hacked it. So four burgos four bucks. You can't
- 5:22Speaker 2: even make that a year. That seriously, that's so good.
- 5:26Speaker 2: And chips and jip chippies these days as an add
- 5:29Speaker 2: on spenot they're like seven dollars fifty at a minute.
- 5:33Speaker 2: And now what the heck is that star? Just see potato.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Still going to do it, yeah, still going to do
- 5:39Speaker 2: it for sure. All right, we've got a money win
- 5:41Speaker 2: from Charlotte, she said. I don't usually share, but I
- 5:43Speaker 2: really have to. We direct debit weekly to our gas
- 5:46Speaker 2: and electricity account, a bit more expensive than required to
- 5:50Speaker 2: cover any unexpected laid bills. We recently moved house and
- 5:53Speaker 2: turns out we were eight hundred dollars in credit. Whoa.
- 5:58Speaker 2: We've been refunded the money and we're hoping to repurpose
- 6:01Speaker 2: that money on some fun projects on the new house
- 6:03Speaker 2: we didn't even think we could fund straight away. That
- 6:06Speaker 2: is so sime win. I love this. I have a
- 6:09Speaker 2: couple more. Do you want me to keep going?
- 6:11Speaker 4: Please?
- 6:11Speaker 2: Yes? This one's from Hugh. Hugh says money win a
- 6:15Speaker 2: month ago, I changed my SIM card plan from Optis
- 6:17Speaker 2: to a Masim, which saves me twenty dollars a month.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Since then, Optis contacted me with a different offer. They
- 6:24Speaker 2: offered me the same price with more data. I thought
- 6:26Speaker 2: that was pretty good. Then today a Masim was like, hey,
- 6:31Speaker 2: we'll give you ten dollars less, So obviously I said yes.
- 6:34Speaker 2: And it's a fifty percent discount on what I should
- 6:36Speaker 2: be paying. Wow, that's good money. When I literally love
- 6:40Speaker 2: when people hustle yes and to like negotiate a phone bill.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Do you know these days you can basically just go
- 6:46Speaker 2: online and talk to the online chat function. You don't
- 6:49Speaker 2: even have to pick up the phone, which is what
- 6:51Speaker 2: I think is most of our community a bit of anxiety.
- 6:53Speaker 2: It gives me anxiety, like picking up the phone and
- 6:55Speaker 2: having to be like, can I have a better deal,
- 6:57Speaker 2: Like just get on the chat function? But it can
- 7:00Speaker 2: be a keyboard warrior in that way. Oh my gosh,
- 7:02Speaker 2: it's so much better. I've got two more. This one's
- 7:05Speaker 2: from Renee. Renee says money win. I worked three out
- 7:08Speaker 2: of four days from home last week, which meant no
- 7:10Speaker 2: using petrol, and I saved forty five dollars worth of pucking.
- 7:13Speaker 2: And I also didn't spend any money on coffees or
- 7:16Speaker 2: juices that I will usually purchase while I'm at work.
- 7:19Speaker 2: How could's that? That's probably I don't know, one hundred bucks.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I feel like it's a lot of money, A lot
- 7:23Speaker 2: of money because like what's your coffee cost a day?
- 7:26Speaker 2: Like six bucks or something? To school stim I know
- 7:29Speaker 2: the school stick, Like you know, three or four a day?
- 7:33Speaker 2: You serious? I really have excite yet three or four
- 7:37Speaker 2: a day? It depends what week we are on the
- 7:39Speaker 2: page cycle. You go down to the cafe three or
- 7:41Speaker 2: four times a day? Yeah, sometimes just to have a chat.
- 7:43Speaker 2: But then I'll also get a coffee for.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Do you know.
- 7:46Speaker 2: I don't know how to tell you. They're scared. We
- 7:49Speaker 2: have free coffee in the office.
- 7:51Speaker 4: Inston Coffee, Babe, I'm not having instant coffee.
- 7:54Speaker 2: I don't know how to make that. I will teach
- 7:56Speaker 2: you how to make that, okay. But also you can
- 7:58Speaker 2: have like one a day. I'm not trying to budget
- 8:01Speaker 2: for you, but like three or four that is probably
- 8:04Speaker 2: where all my money goes. Yeah, because that would be
- 8:08Speaker 2: twenty four times five. Oh, I just truly calculated it now,
- 8:12Speaker 2: So three or four. Do you want to go based
- 8:14Speaker 2: on three or based on we're going to go three?
- 8:17Speaker 2: And you said that was six bucks each. You're spending
- 8:19Speaker 2: eighteen dollars a day, and if you come to work
- 8:21Speaker 2: every single day, that's ninety dollars a week, not even
- 8:25Speaker 2: including your weekend coffee. Your work coffees are costing that.
- 8:29Speaker 2: You know, let's be conservative, you get four weeks leave
- 8:32Speaker 2: a year. Obviously, we're not kept factoring in those coffees.
- 8:35Speaker 2: So instead of doing fifty what fifty two weeks in year,
- 8:39Speaker 2: forty eight weeks in a year, four thousand, three hundred
- 8:42Speaker 2: and twenty dollars back you're spending on coffee at work? Wow,
- 8:46Speaker 2: honestly at work.
- 8:48Speaker 4: To be honest, I probably now you're going to say
- 8:51Speaker 4: you didn't do it. No, No, I was going to say,
- 8:53Speaker 4: I may maybe even drink more on the weekend.
- 8:55Speaker 2: You like, even more on the weekend. That was just
- 8:57Speaker 2: like corporate coffees exactly.
- 9:00Speaker 4: I'm very, very modest when I'm in the office, but
- 9:03Speaker 4: when it's the weekend, I'm having five or six.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, how do we function if you don't
- 9:10Speaker 2: have coffee? No, it doesn't really hit me that much.
- 9:13Speaker 2: I'm like a two coffee wonder. Like, if I've had
- 9:16Speaker 2: two coffees, I'm picking off the walls and usually I
- 9:19Speaker 2: am already. But like if you offer me another coffee,
- 9:22Speaker 2: I have to be like no, because I'll start shaking.
- 9:24Speaker 4: Oh you're one of those people that kind of tea
- 9:25Speaker 4: after two PM or something.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Oh no, I can have tea. I can have so
- 9:29Speaker 2: many tea's, but I definitely can't have more coffees. Right, Okay, gotcha,
- 9:33Speaker 2: gotcha coffee inside Tira massue. Different story though, of course, Yeah,
- 9:36Speaker 2: of course that's very different. All right, I have one
- 9:38Speaker 2: more money win to share with you. This one is
- 9:40Speaker 2: from Amy and you know what, fifty six people liked
- 9:43Speaker 2: this money in. Oh it's a bit long, so sit down.
- 9:47Speaker 2: So she says, money in used what was in the pantry,
- 9:49Speaker 2: and our grocery shop only cost us seventy five dollars
- 9:52Speaker 2: last week, half the normal budget, including all the fun
- 9:55Speaker 2: things we bought because it was a small shop. She says, Also,
- 9:59Speaker 2: I want to share not my money in, but I
- 10:02Speaker 2: also hear pressure to friend's husband into creating a savings
- 10:05Speaker 2: account this weekend. He has tens of thousands of dollars
- 10:08Speaker 2: just sitting in his transaction account. He moved pretty quick
- 10:11Speaker 2: once I told him how much interest we were making
- 10:13Speaker 2: with the same bank. I won't hear pressure my friends
- 10:16Speaker 2: into drinking or taking drugs, but you best believe I
- 10:19Speaker 2: will be peer pressuring them into a better financial situation.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Sounds like a very good friend. What a queen. I
- 10:24Speaker 2: love queen. I love that. I feel like that's me
- 10:26Speaker 2: on the weekends. Like me offline, I'm always like, what
- 10:29Speaker 2: are you doing with that money? Where you're gonna where
- 10:31Speaker 2: you're gonna put him? How do I help you? Do
- 10:32Speaker 2: you want to do a budget together? Do you want
- 10:33Speaker 2: to hang out and sit down and do a budget?
- 10:35Speaker 2: And you're like, do you really want.
- 10:36Speaker 6: To do that?
- 10:37Speaker 4: Yes, that's true. If anyone listening, if you're wondering what
- 10:41Speaker 4: V's like off Mike, it.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Is exactly the same about budgeting. She is exactly the same.
- 10:47Speaker 4: And sometimes I might be like, let's go watch a movie,
- 10:49Speaker 4: but maybe you instead want the budget.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, exactly. Only financial movie is Please Street financial documentary?
- 10:56Speaker 2: So financial documentary?
- 10:57Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 10:58Speaker 2: All right, all right, right, let's move on, because I
- 11:00Speaker 2: have heard that there's a banana involved in your broke tips,
- 11:02Speaker 2: and I just cannot work out how or why? So
- 11:06Speaker 2: could you please elaborate, my friend, what if you got
- 11:08Speaker 2: this week?
- 11:08Speaker 4: Of course this would have looked so funny because our
- 11:10Speaker 4: producer kindly printed this off for me today. She definitely
- 11:13Speaker 4: didn't print all of the doodles all over that piece
- 11:16Speaker 4: of paper.
- 11:17Speaker 2: You've absolutely ruined it for everyone listening. I don't know.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Once I have a pen in hand, I can't help myself,
- 11:22Speaker 2: but I must. Yeah, we had to take it off
- 11:24Speaker 2: you a couple of weeks ago because you had a
- 11:25Speaker 2: permanent markroo and you were drawing on the table.
- 11:28Speaker 4: But also, when you say doodles, it's not doodles. It's
- 11:31Speaker 4: the old school version of a doodle, which is just
- 11:32Speaker 4: literally drawing silly things went there except oh okay, maybe
- 11:36Speaker 4: literally just me ilsing him. There's not a single doodle
- 11:39Speaker 4: on this paper.
- 11:40Speaker 2: There are That whole paper is coveting doodles. Sorry, moving along,
- 11:46Speaker 2: Moving along, okay.
- 11:48Speaker 4: So v my broke tips for this week, I as
- 11:51Speaker 4: always have two from the community and one from myself.
- 11:54Speaker 4: I will start with cat. Cat sent me a broke tip.
- 11:58Speaker 4: She said, if you downward Woolys app and go to
- 12:01Speaker 4: the half price section and you only eat what is
- 12:03Speaker 4: half priced that week, you'll save a lot of money.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Wait, so you're saying there's a whole section, whole section,
- 12:08Speaker 2: so I don't have to like flick through catalogs or
- 12:10Speaker 2: like go through the aisles. If the supermarket work out
- 12:12Speaker 2: what's half rice? The app tell you exactly. She's a genius.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Thanks for that cat Yes, isn't it?
- 12:18Speaker 4: And to extend on that, she says that she works
- 12:20Speaker 4: at Woolies only on a Sunday morning, stay at her
- 12:22Speaker 4: mum life so that she can keep her employee discounts,
- 12:25Speaker 4: which is a great idea I guess doesn't maybe work
- 12:28Speaker 4: for the general population, but also Sunday right at Sunday rates.
- 12:31Speaker 4: She also says Woolies is fifteen dollars unlimited delivery a month.
- 12:35Speaker 4: It costs about that much to drive to and from
- 12:37Speaker 4: there every week because she lives about ten kilometers from
- 12:40Speaker 4: a supermarket on the Sunshine Coast.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Well, if it's fifteen bucks unlimited for a month, how
- 12:45Speaker 2: many times do you go to the supermarket each month?
- 12:47Speaker 1: Oh?
- 12:47Speaker 2: Yeah, true?
- 12:48Speaker 4: Maybe like me, maybe two or three times a month.
- 12:51Speaker 4: But I think I feel like a lot of people
- 12:52Speaker 4: would go more often.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Yeah, but like even if you're going two or three times.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Like if you do public transport, what's a mikey these days,
- 12:57Speaker 2: like five bucks? Yeah, so that already covers your three trips. True,
- 13:02Speaker 2: like car car insurance, petrol is so expensive fifteen bucks.
- 13:06Speaker 2: And also what if you can just if it's unlimited,
- 13:08Speaker 2: you could just jump online and be like I actually
- 13:11Speaker 2: do want to top up with bread and milk and
- 13:12Speaker 2: just the basics to come on Friday, and like it's
- 13:15Speaker 2: not gonna cost you any more than what the bread
- 13:17Speaker 2: and milk is gonna be. Yeah, that's so true. It's
- 13:19Speaker 2: a bit of a money wins. It is a great idea.
- 13:21Speaker 2: I like that turn out, and if.
- 13:23Speaker 4: Someone packs it for you and delivers to your do
- 13:26Speaker 4: you don't have to do that thing where you're carrying
- 13:27Speaker 4: like seven bags of grocery.
- 13:29Speaker 2: That's what I do, because you best believe I'm doing
- 13:32Speaker 2: two trips. I'm not gone back. Sometimes I just leave
- 13:35Speaker 2: stuff in my car for like an extended period of
- 13:37Speaker 2: time because I'm like, well, I guess it lives there now.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Me too.
- 13:40Speaker 4: If it's not a perishable lives there now. It's gonna
- 13:43Speaker 4: stay in my car until all of eternity.
- 13:45Speaker 2: It's additional storage for my house. Yeah, it's like a ship.
- 13:48Speaker 4: Exactly back of the car is a shd. All right,
- 13:51Speaker 4: what else have you got for me? Okay, so this
- 13:52Speaker 4: one's from Caitlin. He sent me a video of a Basically,
- 13:56Speaker 4: it's a frugal man who peels bananas before weighing them
- 13:59Speaker 4: to say money.
- 14:00Speaker 2: No, he doesn't. I think it's so clever. What you
- 14:03Speaker 2: think that's clever?
- 14:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, like if our producer said it's probably
- 14:06Speaker 4: not legal, which fair enough, Sure, I.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Don't think it's legal either, But like, also there's stingy.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Then there's like real stingchy. It's like have you seen
- 14:14Speaker 2: that frugal show, think it's on Netflix where that woman
- 14:17Speaker 2: cooks her lazonia in the dishwasher.
- 14:19Speaker 4: Oh, I've seen this in like salmon in foil in
- 14:22Speaker 4: the dish washer.
- 14:23Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:23Speaker 2: And also there was that guy. I don't know. If
- 14:26Speaker 2: it's involving money, I've watched it. If it's on Netflix.
- 14:30Speaker 2: If it has anything to do with money, I've watched it.
- 14:32Speaker 2: That guy. They have a spa out the back, but
- 14:35Speaker 2: to justify the cost of the spa, they don't bath
- 14:39Speaker 2: or shower. They just go in the spa and they
- 14:40Speaker 2: also do all their washing in there. Oh no, yeah,
- 14:43Speaker 2: I can see you make a tea in there. Absolute
- 14:48Speaker 2: absolutely not. I can't. I can't. Then there was like
- 14:50Speaker 2: some dude who had heaps of money but lived in
- 14:53Speaker 2: a house with absolutely no furniture, because he's like, why
- 14:56Speaker 2: waste money on furniture when I can sit on the floor,
- 14:58Speaker 2: And I'm like, it's a good point. It's yeah, that's
- 15:02Speaker 2: a good point. Oh my gosh.
- 15:03Speaker 4: This is unrelated and it's definitely not a money win.
- 15:06Speaker 4: But the other day I couldn't be bothered going downstairs
- 15:08Speaker 4: to make a tea, so I got my bottle of water,
- 15:10Speaker 4: cold bottle of water, put it in a cup, and
- 15:12Speaker 4: I used coffee cup and had a tea bag that
- 15:14Speaker 4: was just sitting room and heated it by the radiant heater.
- 15:19Speaker 2: You do that the second you get to work, though,
- 15:21Speaker 2: you're like four coffee is a day.
- 15:23Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, bro I decided and all this energy
- 15:25Speaker 4: comes over me and I can go downstairs and get
- 15:28Speaker 4: a coffee.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Those are our broke tips from our community in our
- 15:31Speaker 2: community love.
- 15:32Speaker 4: And actually I don't know if this is legal, but
- 15:33Speaker 4: if you take the stem off broccoli, this is legal.
- 15:37Speaker 6: I shouldn't.
- 15:37Speaker 2: I shouldn't.
- 15:38Speaker 4: Perhaps I should not be saying it if. I don't know,
- 15:40Speaker 4: but if you take the stem off broccoli, that could
- 15:42Speaker 4: be cheaper. I'm not sure if it's bag.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Is that you're broke tea allowed, I don't know, it's not.
- 15:46Speaker 2: That's not yours. That's just like off of chickens broke tip,
- 15:50Speaker 2: you know what. I just feel like the stem is
- 15:54Speaker 2: the best bit, so I get rid of it. Oh yeah,
- 15:55Speaker 2: that makes sense in stir fries and stuff. I really
- 15:58Speaker 2: like it. That's because I'm a bit weird. I cut
- 16:02Speaker 2: it up and eat it while I'm cooking. Oh okay,
- 16:05Speaker 2: I might try that. As I said, I'm a bit weird,
- 16:07Speaker 2: but not weird. I want to know what's your broke tip?
- 16:10Speaker 4: Yes, okay, so my broke tip for this week. I
- 16:12Speaker 4: guess it's like, you know, it's a little bit of work,
- 16:15Speaker 4: but if.
- 16:15Speaker 2: You have the time. Bit of work, if you have
- 16:17Speaker 2: the energy is the woman who made tea in her
- 16:20Speaker 2: bedroom with an old tea.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Bag exactly exactly. It's it's slightly less work than that.
- 16:25Speaker 4: But I would say for myself personally, if I'm paying
- 16:28Speaker 4: for a lot of things in a particular month or whatever,
- 16:30Speaker 4: your pay cycle is fortnightly, whatever, if I know, if
- 16:33Speaker 4: I predict that I'm going to run out of money quickly,
- 16:35Speaker 4: and i have a few bills coming up, and I'm
- 16:37Speaker 4: feeling super stressed out spending what I used.
- 16:40Speaker 2: To time at the cafe.
- 16:41Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly what I used to do is I would
- 16:43Speaker 4: just not pay the bills and then have people chasing
- 16:46Speaker 4: me and feel extremely anxious and terrible idea. It's a
- 16:49Speaker 4: really bad idea. But honestly, what I have noticed in
- 16:52Speaker 4: my adult life, and that's from twenty eight onward. If
- 16:55Speaker 4: you call up places, let's say Linked for example, I
- 16:58Speaker 4: always I'm always paying for tolls, you'll gas and electricity, if
- 17:02Speaker 4: you have payments going on, I used to use hum
- 17:05Speaker 4: anything like that. If you call them up, explain a situation.
- 17:07Speaker 4: You can even do it on that little chatbot thing.
- 17:09Speaker 4: As you were saying before, you will be able to
- 17:12Speaker 4: either have an extension on a due date or you'll
- 17:15Speaker 4: be able to pay things off in smaller amounts.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Just so good. Just try and put in the time
- 17:21Speaker 2: set aside some time.
- 17:23Speaker 4: If you're stressed about money, if you're stressed about bills
- 17:25Speaker 4: that are coming out, about it, talk about it because people,
- 17:28Speaker 4: I'm sure companies would way rather you say I'm going
- 17:31Speaker 4: to pay on this date or maybe at than just
- 17:34Speaker 4: like literally ghost and then they have to chase you.
- 17:37Speaker 2: You know of them have hardship policies as well. Yes,
- 17:39Speaker 2: so you reach out and be like, hey, I'm going
- 17:41Speaker 2: through a bit of a rough patch. Often they'll be like, oh, Beck,
- 17:44Speaker 2: we totally.
- 17:44Speaker 4: Get it, exactly, here's some relief exactly. And they don't
- 17:47Speaker 4: make you feel silly about it. You should not feel
- 17:50Speaker 4: embarrassed about it.
- 17:51Speaker 2: It's all good. Just consider that if you're going through
- 17:55Speaker 2: a tough time and you have a lot of bills coming.
- 17:57Speaker 6: I love it.
- 17:57Speaker 2: So smart and a good reminder, especially right now now. Yes,
- 18:00Speaker 2: all right, let's go to a really quick break on
- 18:02Speaker 2: the flip side. We're going to be talking about what
- 18:04Speaker 2: to prioritize when returning from maternity leave and the icky
- 18:08Speaker 2: question of what do you do when your housemate lets
- 18:10Speaker 2: their friends sleep in your bed when you're not there.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Don't go anywhere, guys, Welcome back everyone. Let's have a
- 18:19Speaker 2: listen to our money dilemma. Hi, there, have you got
- 18:24Speaker 2: a money dilemma you just can't solve? The Sheese on
- 18:26Speaker 2: the Money Team is here to help. Every week we

- 18:32Speaker 2: most burning money, career and life questions. To get involved,
- 18:35Speaker 2: simply head to our website and leave us a short
- 18:38Speaker 2: voice recording and you might just find yourself on the show. Now,
- 18:41Speaker 2: let's take a listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 18:47Speaker 6: Okay, a dilemma.
- 18:48Speaker 3: I'm set to return back to work after my unpaid
- 18:51Speaker 3: maternity leave next month. However, I was severely underpaid and
- 18:55Speaker 3: only took that role because I was desperate.
- 18:58Speaker 6: At the time. But all so, I simply just don't
- 19:01Speaker 6: want to leave my son.
- 19:03Speaker 3: I have been researching and wanting to start my own business,
- 19:07Speaker 3: which will cost me thirty five thousand dollars.
- 19:09Speaker 4: To start.
- 19:10Speaker 3: This business is something I am passionate about, but will
- 19:13Speaker 3: also allow me to stay at home with my son.
- 19:15Speaker 3: I have a twenty five thousand dollar car loan which
- 19:19Speaker 3: I pay five hundred dollars a month for, and I
- 19:22Speaker 3: also only have forty thousand dollars in savings. My partner
- 19:25Speaker 3: and I are also looking to buy a place.
- 19:27Speaker 6: In the next two months with our money. But what
- 19:30Speaker 6: do I do with money?
- 19:31Speaker 2: Do I do with mine?
- 19:32Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 19:32Speaker 2: I think mine all right?
- 19:34Speaker 1: Back?
- 19:34Speaker 2: What did you do when you returned from Mattleeth.
- 19:36Speaker 4: What it did was I forgot that I had a baby.
- 19:43Speaker 4: When I was listening to this, I was seeing you
- 19:45Speaker 4: write things down, and I was really trying to think
- 19:48Speaker 4: of something because I obviously this is very unrelatable to me.
- 19:51Speaker 2: I'm so sorry. My advice is be kind to yourself
- 19:54Speaker 2: and haven't I stay and you lets it be thy fruit,
- 20:00Speaker 2: the fruits. I love that I did write a few notes.
- 20:03Speaker 2: I think this is such a sticky situation that a
- 20:06Speaker 2: lot of new parents find themselves in.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Right.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Lots of people go on matt leave with every intention
- 20:12Speaker 2: of returning, but don't know what it's like having a baby,
- 20:15Speaker 2: and then once they do have a baby, they're like,
- 20:17Speaker 2: I don't want to leave, like this is great, or
- 20:19Speaker 2: I'm really enjoying my time off, or I want more.
- 20:22Speaker 2: What I'm hearing from the start is I think there's
- 20:25Speaker 2: two parts to this. Right, so you don't want to
- 20:29Speaker 2: return to work, but you were very clear that you
- 20:31Speaker 2: were severely underpaid in your current job. So it's quite
- 20:36Speaker 2: clear that you don't feel respected, I would say, in
- 20:39Speaker 2: that role and don't want to return to that. Whether
- 20:42Speaker 2: you start a business or not, I think is a
- 20:43Speaker 2: different conversation. But what you're saying, let's pretend you didn't
- 20:47Speaker 2: say that you want to start a business. What you're
- 20:50Speaker 2: saying is these people don't respect you, they're underpaying you,
- 20:53Speaker 2: and if you return to work, you probably need a
- 20:56Speaker 2: new job. So that's all well and good. I would
- 21:00Speaker 2: be having a pragmatic think about, Okay, well, if I
- 21:02Speaker 2: don't return to that particular job, what are my options?
- 21:05Speaker 2: Obviously a business is one of them. I think businesses
- 21:09Speaker 2: are fantastic, as somebody who owns one. I adore the freedom.
- 21:13Speaker 2: But it's also not that free, right, So maybe it's
- 21:17Speaker 2: a bit risky. Especially it could be really risky. It
- 21:19Speaker 2: depends what it is. I always get, Beck, I get
- 21:22Speaker 2: so nervous when people say, I know my business startup
- 21:25Speaker 2: costs are going to be thirty five thousand dollars, Like
- 21:27Speaker 2: I don't have nearly enough context. Like I don't know
- 21:29Speaker 2: if you've gone and you know, created this big, beautiful
- 21:32Speaker 2: spreadsheet and actually fully comprehend what it's going to cost, right,
- 21:36Speaker 2: or has some multi level marketing company come along and said, hey, Beck,
- 21:40Speaker 2: you can get started for thirty five grand I don't
- 21:42Speaker 2: know if this is a good idea or not. Yeah,
- 21:44Speaker 2: I can't tell you if starting a business is I
- 21:46Speaker 2: don't even know what it is. What I can tell
- 21:49Speaker 2: you is it's a lot more work than you think
- 21:51Speaker 2: it is. And even if it enables you to be
- 21:52Speaker 2: home with your son, that does not necessarily mean that
- 21:55Speaker 2: you're home present with your son, true, and it could
- 21:59Speaker 2: weigh a lot heavier on you. It's something that I
- 22:02Speaker 2: think about a lot, because I would love to start
- 22:04Speaker 2: a family soon. But I also know that something's going
- 22:08Speaker 2: to have to give for me to be a present
- 22:10Speaker 2: parent rather than just one that's not there. And you know,
- 22:14Speaker 2: I look at my friends, who you know, just have
- 22:16Speaker 2: salary and wage journing jobs, and a few of them
- 22:18Speaker 2: have returned part time, and I'm like, how cool would
- 22:21Speaker 2: it be? And this is me not complaining. I adore
- 22:24Speaker 2: the situation I'm in. How cool would it be to
- 22:27Speaker 2: have a baby at home, go to work for my
- 22:29Speaker 2: part time hours, come home and have not one thing
- 22:31Speaker 2: to worry about. Yes, you don't have to worry about payroll,
- 22:34Speaker 2: you don't have to worry about tax. You're not doing
- 22:37Speaker 2: bass till all hours of the night. You're not you know,
- 22:39Speaker 2: doing your bookkeeping or being stressed about paying creditors, Like,
- 22:43Speaker 2: there's so much benefit being a salary and wage earning
- 22:47Speaker 2: employee that I just look at it and go, I
- 22:50Speaker 2: get it. But we need to see both sides of
- 22:52Speaker 2: the coin. I know being present for your son makes sense,
- 22:55Speaker 2: but that the crux of it. What I'm hearing is
- 22:57Speaker 2: you need to make an income. Yeah, so that outcome great,
- 23:01Speaker 2: How are you going to do that in a way
- 23:03Speaker 2: where you're still as present as you want to be
- 23:06Speaker 2: Because being home is one thing, but being a present
- 23:09Speaker 2: parent is another. And I think that those things need
- 23:12Speaker 2: to come into consideration when thinking about having a family
- 23:15Speaker 2: and thinking about, you know, what your post maternity leave
- 23:18Speaker 2: life looks like, because right now I'm assuming these are
- 23:22Speaker 2: all assumptions. Back, Yeah, you said you're on unpaid maternity leave.
- 23:26Speaker 2: You don't have any responsibilities. Your responsibility is, you know,
- 23:29Speaker 2: bringing up your child. They've got one hundred percent of
- 23:31Speaker 2: your undivided attention. Starting a business is hard. The first
- 23:36Speaker 2: five years are hard. Like this stuff is not easy,
- 23:39Speaker 2: and I'm not trying to talk you out of it.
- 23:40Speaker 2: I just want a balanced argument of Hey, is that
- 23:44Speaker 2: actually the right decision for right now? I know lots
- 23:47Speaker 2: of people who have started business as while on matt
- 23:50Speaker 2: leave or with new babies, and they've been so successful
- 23:52Speaker 2: and like it's the best decision they've ever made. But
- 23:55Speaker 2: I think that there is a lot of benefit in
- 23:57Speaker 2: stepping back and going like, all right, well, if you
- 23:59Speaker 2: want to out of business, that's fantastic, But like, what
- 24:02Speaker 2: are your motivations to do so? Because, as I said before,
- 24:05Speaker 2: this is personal opinion, there's a difference between being present
- 24:09Speaker 2: and being present. Yes, that makes sense, y so completely
- 24:12Speaker 2: makes sense. That would be my I guess take Obviously
- 24:16Speaker 2: you've got a car loan and you've got some savings.
- 24:19Speaker 2: I'd be looking at options to fund the business. Say
- 24:22Speaker 2: you go down that route and you need to, you know,
- 24:26Speaker 2: do the startup costs. There are a lot of costs
- 24:28Speaker 2: that you can't get away with, like you have to
- 24:30Speaker 2: pay immediately. Yeah, but what's this thirty five thousand dollars
- 24:33Speaker 2: made up of? Like can you break it down? Like
- 24:36Speaker 2: have you looked at other quotes? Let's say you've got
- 24:39Speaker 2: a quote for marketing and branding and it was like
- 24:41Speaker 2: sixteen thousand dollars, Like, have you gotten a few other quotes?
- 24:44Speaker 2: Is that actually the best use of your money? You
- 24:46Speaker 2: know what parts of this could you do yourself, because
- 24:49Speaker 2: they think that getting a business off the ground is
- 24:51Speaker 2: one thing, and then rebranding it so it thrives is another.
- 24:55Speaker 2: So I just think, how can we strip that thirty
- 24:58Speaker 2: five thousand dollars back to the absolute bare minimum so
- 25:01Speaker 2: that you can kind of go through that viability period
- 25:03Speaker 2: and go, am I actually going to do this? Is
- 25:06Speaker 2: this actually going to work for the least amount of money?
- 25:09Speaker 2: And then go from there. The other thing, if you're
- 25:11Speaker 2: saying we're planning on buying a house in a couple
- 25:13Speaker 2: of weeks, I can almost guarantee that if you're working
- 25:16Speaker 2: with a broker, that forty thousand dollars that you have
- 25:18Speaker 2: in savings right now has been taken into consideration as
- 25:22Speaker 2: an asset, and if you disposed of it, it would
- 25:24Speaker 2: change how much the bank wants to lend you. So
- 25:27Speaker 2: just be really careful and talk to a broker before
- 25:29Speaker 2: you make a decision. I know a couple at Zella Money. Yes,
- 25:33Speaker 2: you might know a couple. They're pretty good. Their boss
- 25:36Speaker 2: is really nice. Fair ha. What's the boss's name again? Oh,
- 25:40Speaker 2: don't even worry about it, it's not important, all right.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Let's move on to the spicy conversation. Is it spicy?
- 25:46Speaker 4: I don't know if it's spicy or just gives me
- 25:47Speaker 4: the I think it might be because I've got a
- 25:50Speaker 4: story and maybe you've probably got a story.
- 25:51Speaker 2: That's oh my gosh, I had the exact same story,
- 25:54Speaker 2: and it's this is I guess why it gives me
- 25:56Speaker 2: the hebgb's that makes me go, oh, don't do that.
- 25:59Speaker 2: I love it. Are you ready? I'm ready, I'm so ready.
- 26:01Speaker 2: All right here it is. This is what slid into
- 26:03Speaker 2: our DMS this week. Hey, ladies could really use some advice.
- 26:08Speaker 2: I've been traveling overseas for two months. Whilst I was away,
- 26:11Speaker 2: I continued to pay my rent and bills towards the house.
- 26:14Speaker 2: I recently got home to find out that my two
- 26:17Speaker 2: housemates essentially let their friends crash at our place when
- 26:20Speaker 2: I was away. Whilst they didn't quote move in, they
- 26:24Speaker 2: were sleeping at our place in my bedroom at a
- 26:27Speaker 2: minimum of three times a week, use the hot water,
- 26:30Speaker 2: use the electricity, and basically were me. I'm so annoyed
- 26:34Speaker 2: by this. I lowkey feel that this person should have
- 26:37Speaker 2: been paying my rent if they wanted to use my room,
- 26:40Speaker 2: or even just some of the bills if they were
- 26:42Speaker 2: sleeping in my bed multiple times a week. My housemates
- 26:46Speaker 2: naively think that they did nothing wrong and that it's
- 26:48Speaker 2: okay because they washed my sheets and cleaned my room,
- 26:51Speaker 2: So what's the big deal? They say that the person
- 26:54Speaker 2: was hanging out on the weekend and it got late,
- 26:57Speaker 2: so they just crashed there a few times. Do you
- 26:59Speaker 2: think I have a right to ask for some rent
- 27:02Speaker 2: or build money back or do I just drop it?
- 27:04Speaker 2: What do you think I should do? No, that's not okay.
- 27:07Speaker 2: So yeah, it's very much.
- 27:09Speaker 4: You know, I think even if you're the chillest, chilliest,
- 27:12Speaker 4: chillest person in the world, you don't mind if people
- 27:14Speaker 4: go into your room. It's still a little bit weird
- 27:17Speaker 4: when someone that you don't know is sleep in your bed.
- 27:19Speaker 2: Stranger.
- 27:19Speaker 4: Maybe they're friends, I get it, but like ask first, because.
- 27:23Speaker 2: I reckon if they were friends, Beck, the friend would
- 27:25Speaker 2: have met. Like if I was going to your house
- 27:27Speaker 2: to hang out with your housemates and you were traveling
- 27:29Speaker 2: and they were like, oh, just stay, I'd message you
- 27:32Speaker 2: and be like, hey, Beck, like is it all right
- 27:34Speaker 2: if I sleep in your room? And you'd be like, yeah,
- 27:35Speaker 2: that's fine because I know you. Whatever, But it's such
- 27:38Speaker 2: a different story when you don't know them. I had
- 27:41Speaker 2: you said before that you've had this happen in so
- 27:43Speaker 2: of eye, When did it happen to you?
- 27:44Speaker 4: Okay, so it didn't happen to me personally, and everyone
- 27:48Speaker 4: listening you.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Do it to somebody else. I would never. But there
- 27:52Speaker 2: was one person who I used to live with who
- 27:56Speaker 2: let their parents their mom stay in a room that
- 28:01Speaker 2: was vacant because our other housemate was like traveling but still.
- 28:06Speaker 6: Was still her room.
- 28:07Speaker 2: All their stuff was like in the stuff.
- 28:09Speaker 6: Was in there.
- 28:09Speaker 4: They didn't sleeping in there. I think even something broken
- 28:13Speaker 4: there at some point. And then when that housemate got back,
- 28:16Speaker 4: the person who let.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Their parents day said.
- 28:19Speaker 4: Oh, I just thought you were more chill than that,
- 28:22Speaker 4: Like I thought you'd be more like chill and like cool,
- 28:25Speaker 4: and like didn't at all say I'm so sorry, like
- 28:27Speaker 4: I probably should have fast or I'm so sorry this
- 28:29Speaker 4: I overstepped the boundary.
- 28:30Speaker 2: It was like, you are weird for not wanting this,
- 28:32Speaker 2: and it was so yes, oh my god.
- 28:36Speaker 4: I had no one ever listens to this because they
- 28:38Speaker 4: will know exactly who they are.
- 28:41Speaker 2: That happened to me too, the very first time I
- 28:44Speaker 2: moved out of home. I lived in a share house
- 28:47Speaker 2: with my at the time partner and two other housemates.
- 28:50Speaker 2: They had the downstairs bedrooms. We had an upstairs bedroom
- 28:53Speaker 2: that we shared. And at the time, because it was
- 28:55Speaker 2: like first time moving out, I would go home on
- 28:57Speaker 2: the weekends, as would my partner because I still worked
- 29:00Speaker 2: weekends like in retail and in hospitality back down the peninsula,
- 29:04Speaker 2: right So on a like Friday avot, I'd head back
- 29:07Speaker 2: down and sometimes I wouldn't even come back, depending on
- 29:09Speaker 2: when UNI was until like a Monday night or something.
- 29:12Speaker 2: So I'd just like spend time with my parents. And
- 29:14Speaker 2: I had no idea this had been going on for
- 29:16Speaker 2: like six months. My housemate downstairs had decided, well, it's
- 29:21Speaker 2: a free room over the weekend. She'd just let her
- 29:23Speaker 2: friends stay. No when they went out on like a
- 29:26Speaker 2: Saturday night or a Friday night, because I wasn't there, no,
- 29:30Speaker 2: and like I hadn't noticed. I feel like some things
- 29:33Speaker 2: were there, But you know when you live with a partner,
- 29:35Speaker 2: like maybe he moved to the pillows, like you just
- 29:38Speaker 2: don't think about it twice, Like it's not like it
- 29:40Speaker 2: was my own room where if I put something down
- 29:42Speaker 2: it shouldn't have moved, Like, you know, if I had
- 29:45Speaker 2: a tea cup beside the bed, maybe I my partner
- 29:48Speaker 2: put in a dishwasher or vice versa. Maybe the tea
- 29:50Speaker 2: cup beside the bed was from my partner, didn't think
- 29:53Speaker 2: it turns out no housemate, which I've told you about. Ah,
- 29:58Speaker 2: this one Steeler. Yep, she stole my underwear and also
- 30:03Speaker 2: shout out to her. She's the one that emptied my
- 30:05Speaker 2: freezer for me when I was eating it. Yeah, so yeah,
- 30:09Speaker 2: she was a delight to live with. Whoever lives with
- 30:11Speaker 2: her now, best of luck, maybe you'll devera bee in
- 30:13Speaker 2: your favor. But yeah, it was a very awkward experience
- 30:16Speaker 2: because they didn't even wash the sheets back. They would
- 30:20Speaker 2: just like crash in my bed when they came home
- 30:23Speaker 2: at three am and obviously leave the next morning, like
- 30:26Speaker 2: straighten up the sheets and call it a own file. Yeah,
- 30:30Speaker 2: so it'sorry not okay. I feel like it was an
- 30:33Speaker 2: invasion of my privacy. Yeah, totally. It just feels weird. Yeah,
- 30:38Speaker 2: it feels weird. All my stuff's in there, Like if
- 30:40Speaker 2: you open my bedside drawer, you might find my stash
- 30:42Speaker 2: of sour lullies, you know, like I just you will
- 30:45Speaker 2: find much worse in my room.
- 30:47Speaker 4: Yeah, you'll find a vape, find many many vapes, but.
- 30:51Speaker 2: It's one of those things that you just like, I
- 30:54Speaker 2: don't feel that comfortable with sure people coming in my space,
- 30:57Speaker 2: especially when it's unplanned, because like, I don't know about you, Beck,
- 31:01Speaker 2: but if you were coming to stay at my house
- 31:03Speaker 2: and you were going to like sleep in my bed
- 31:06Speaker 2: because I wasn't there, I'd like change the sheets for you.
- 31:09Speaker 2: I would like, you know, probably tidy it up a bit,
- 31:11Speaker 2: like move some stuff around the beds I take. Do
- 31:13Speaker 2: you know what I mean? Make me me more comfortable
- 31:15Speaker 2: that you're coming into my space? Totally a bit weird.
- 31:18Speaker 4: Yeah, it feels weird, But the real question is it's
- 31:21Speaker 4: weird or not. Basically, your feelings are valid.
- 31:23Speaker 2: This is very I don't that your housemate's gas like
- 31:25Speaker 2: exactly right. So the real question was do you think
- 31:29Speaker 2: I have a right to ask for some rent or
- 31:31Speaker 2: build money back or do I just drop it back?
- 31:34Speaker 4: You have every right, But would I try to do that?
- 31:38Speaker 2: I wouldn't.
- 31:39Speaker 4: I guess I would be like I already feel like
- 31:41Speaker 4: an outsider, unless you're you're thinking of leaving anyway because
- 31:44Speaker 4: of what's happened. If you are, then like, sure, maybe
- 31:47Speaker 4: give it a go. But if you're not and your
- 31:49Speaker 4: plan on staying there, it's already kind of like ah,
- 31:52Speaker 4: these people, these two people against me, they don't think
- 31:56Speaker 4: they did the wrong thing. Yeah, Now I'm going to
- 31:58Speaker 4: also be asking for rent money in electricity and bill
- 32:01Speaker 4: or whatever.
- 32:01Speaker 2: So it's going to become a fight because that person
- 32:04Speaker 2: doesn't maybe hasn't even budgeted for that either. You're asking
- 32:07Speaker 2: for money that they haven't allocated. It's just a bit
- 32:09Speaker 2: of a mess from my perspectively. But does that mean
- 32:13Speaker 2: you drop it? No? No, No, I would be going
- 32:16Speaker 2: and setting some very clear boundaries that your room is
- 32:19Speaker 2: not a shared space and that it is yours. If
- 32:22Speaker 2: you want to be real dramatic, you who put a
- 32:24Speaker 2: lock on real room do it because it's so it's
- 32:28Speaker 2: a violation of your it's a violation.
- 32:29Speaker 4: And now you're in this uncomfortable situation where you have
- 32:32Speaker 4: to tell people very very basic, normal things. It's like
- 32:35Speaker 4: being like, I don't know, I can't think of a
- 32:37Speaker 4: single thing that would like why would you even have
- 32:40Speaker 4: to have this conversation?
- 32:40Speaker 2: But you do, like it's not their space to share,
- 32:43Speaker 2: that's not a shared space in the house. Like, if
- 32:46Speaker 2: you're away for the weekend, Beck, I can't just turn
- 32:49Speaker 2: up to your house because it's convenient to sleep there
- 32:52Speaker 2: without your permission and just go in, Like why would
- 32:54Speaker 2: that be in that circumstance. From my perspective, it's exactly
- 32:58Speaker 2: the same, Like that is my personal space that I
- 33:01Speaker 2: own and I pay for. You can't just walk in
- 33:04Speaker 2: there willing nelly. Same with your house. I can't just
- 33:07Speaker 2: walk into your house. What makes you think that you
- 33:09Speaker 2: can walk into my room in the same way when
- 33:12Speaker 2: you're a housemate. You're not my partner. Weird, weird, weird,
- 33:15Speaker 2: weird weird.
- 33:16Speaker 4: But not to say that you don't deserve that money,
- 33:18Speaker 4: because you do and you probably are owed it.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Yeah, we did ask the community what do they say?
- 33:24Speaker 2: We said, would you be upset if you were this person?
- 33:26Speaker 2: Eighty eight percent said yeah, I'd be very angry and
- 33:29Speaker 2: very disappointed. Twelve percent of you can't relate, you said,
- 33:34Speaker 2: wouldn't bother me that much? Couple of chillis must be nice.
- 33:37Speaker 2: The next question we asked was do you think this
- 33:40Speaker 2: person has the right to ask for some money back?
- 33:42Speaker 2: Seventy nine percent of people said yes, okay. We said,
- 33:46Speaker 2: if yes, who do you think should be paying them back?
- 33:51Speaker 2: Sixty five percent of you said the housemates. Yeah, I'm
- 33:54Speaker 2: not a friend because the friend. I don't know what
- 33:57Speaker 2: if the friend was told yeah, it's fine exactly, Beck
- 34:00Speaker 2: said it was fine, and then they're fine with that,
- 34:03Speaker 2: Yeah exactly. I would say it's not on them. Person
- 34:05Speaker 2: staying had no idea.
- 34:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 34:06Speaker 2: We then also asked you, what are your two cents?
- 34:09Speaker 2: We need to know because Beck and I were a
- 34:10Speaker 2: bit opinionated on this, so let's hopefully balance it out.
- 34:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Someone said inconsiderate, selfish. Oh my goodness, I would never
- 34:19Speaker 2: use this. Someone said these people are not your friends.
- 34:23Speaker 2: See if you can move out. Someone said, more than
- 34:25Speaker 2: the money, it tells us that they don't respect your
- 34:27Speaker 2: space or your privacy. Yeah. Absolutely rank. Could they let
- 34:31Speaker 2: somebody else sleep in your bed with like fifteen exclamation points? Ah?
- 34:37Speaker 2: Someone says, honestly, it's the fact they used your room.
- 34:41Speaker 2: I'd feel like my personal space had been invaded. Someone
- 34:44Speaker 2: said it's not cool, but is it worth having a
- 34:46Speaker 2: rocky housemate relationship when you ask for money? Yes, which
- 34:50Speaker 2: I think is a very valid point. I think that's
- 34:52Speaker 2: where probably we are more so. Yeah, a lot of people,
- 34:55Speaker 2: you know, there's heaps of comments. Basically, they're like, they
- 34:58Speaker 2: absolutely should have asked, they should have you know, gone
- 35:00Speaker 2: above and beyond. There were lots of people saying, look,
- 35:03Speaker 2: I would be absolutely ropable, but i'd be ropable at
- 35:06Speaker 2: my housemate's not the person that stayed over. And yes,
- 35:09Speaker 2: someone said, well it was three nights a week or
- 35:12Speaker 2: was it a casual sleepover. It's a very fine line.
- 35:16Speaker 2: I still think it's a bit ick. But yes, I
- 35:19Speaker 2: don't know about you, but I do feel a lot
- 35:21Speaker 2: better about a once off situation. Yeah, three nights a
- 35:24Speaker 2: week fine, But like, oh, Beck, I'm so sorry when
- 35:27Speaker 2: you're away. Jess, who's now sick, she stayed over because
- 35:31Speaker 2: she drunk a bit too much to drive and I
- 35:33Speaker 2: just said, look, it's a bit late, but crash in
- 35:35Speaker 2: Beck's beds. She won't mind. I've cleaned all your sheets,
- 35:37Speaker 2: I've done everything. I hope that's okay to me. That's
- 35:40Speaker 2: a different situation because that's about personal safety than I
- 35:44Speaker 2: don't know, I feel like the intension behind it. I
- 35:46Speaker 2: feel three nights a week for the entire time you're
- 35:49Speaker 2: away was on purpose.
- 35:51Speaker 4: Yeah, it's very much like, hey, this room's free now.
- 35:53Speaker 4: It is literally anyone's you know what I mean.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Yeah, Whereas like, oh, hey, you know, someone had a
- 35:58Speaker 2: bit too much to drink. I told them to sleep
- 35:59Speaker 2: in your because it was just not okay for them
- 36:01Speaker 2: to go home. Like yeah, that's actually really responsible And yeah,
- 36:04Speaker 2: I don't know, I feel like intention comes into it
- 36:06Speaker 2: all totally, totally, I would agree with that. All right, Well,
- 36:10Speaker 2: I think that's all we have time.
- 36:11Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a good place to leave it. But best
- 36:14Speaker 4: of luck and keep us posted.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm going to post a picture of my bedside
- 36:19Speaker 2: draw on Instagram today actually to show you that I do,
- 36:23Speaker 2: in fact have a draw full of sour lollies. I
- 36:26Speaker 2: wasn't joking, that wasn't innuendo. So head over to my
- 36:29Speaker 2: Instagram and I will show you that. But otherwise, have
- 36:32Speaker 2: the best weekend and we'll see you one Monday for
