- 0:01Dr.C: All right, so it is Thursday morning.
- 0:05Dr.C: What is today?
- 0:06Dr.C: September 4th, September 4th.
- 0:09Dr.C: I'm on my way to work and I'm in the car driving.
- 0:12Dr.C: I have the air on because I'm having a hot flash.
- 0:15Dr.C: Whoa, these hot flashes.
- 0:18Dr.C: And as you all know, I have started a new podcast called Life Podcast.
- 0:24Dr.C: Learn, inspire, flourish, and evolve.
- 0:26Dr.C: And one of the things that one of the listeners said is, you know, this is great, but we know nothing about you.
- 0:32Dr.C: You know you don't appear on the cover art, you're not really on the website it just says Dr.
- 0:39Dr.C: C but it doesn't say much; you know you need to let people know who you are and so that they can engage with you and want to follow you
- 0:49Dr.C: And ironically I was like well the reason why I didn't do that because I didn't want it to be about me right because to me the reason why I started the podcast was not not Not to like big myself up.
- 1:03Dr.C: It was really, or it is, to share wellness information and empower others to take control of their lives and understanding that, you know, don't beat yourself up.
- 1:18Dr.C: Wellness is not about perfection.
- 1:20Dr.C: Wellness is about investment.
- 1:24Dr.C: Yeah, you're investing in your future.
- 1:26Dr.C: You're investing in your longevity and your livelihood.
- 1:29Dr.C: You're investing in the quality of your life.
- 1:31Dr.C: So we have so much power in how we show up.
- 1:37Dr.C: We have so much power in what we manifest in our own lives.
- 1:40Dr.C: So I wanted to find a way to get it out to the masses, right?
- 1:46Dr.C: I do a lot of presentations.
- 1:48Dr.C: I talk to a lot of people, a workplace wellness consultant.
- 1:52Dr.C: So I work with leaders for their burnout recovery, but also I work with leaders so that they can look at their organization in a way that values employee wellness and creates an environment that shows that they value employee wellness.
- 2:08Dr.C: So there's minimal work that you need to do or minimal cost in order to create an environment that's burnout free.
- 2:16Dr.C: And, you know, a lot of people say, well, that's a big claim, you know, that you can create an environment that's burnout free.
- 2:24Dr.C: And I said, yeah, it's definitely a big claim, but doable.
- 2:27Dr.C: As long as you know what the factors of workplace burnout are, then you can do it.
- 2:35Dr.C: can, you can mitigate that.
- 2:36Dr.C: You can absolutely mitigate that and then teach your employees how to take care of themselves.
- 2:41Dr.C: So I do that a lot.
- 2:45Dr.C: And I just decided like, how do I get that out to the masses?
- 2:49Dr.C: It's not about making millions of dollars by charging people to consult and to help them with their burnout, but it's truly about helping people.
- 2:59Dr.C: So When I think about my own wellness journey, man, I'm telling you, I'm still working.
- 3:08Dr.C: Every day.
- 3:09Dr.C: Every day, I am still working, being positive, having a growth mindset, intentionally setting up my day so that I can see the positives, the blessings, and all the resources that I have available to me in order to have the best day possible, right?
- 3:32Dr.C: So I was working with a CEO for burnout recovery and one morning I Well, we had a session scheduled for like nine o'clock.
- 3:44Dr.C: And one of the things we had been working on is her doing her morning affirmations, like really intentionally setting the tone of her day.
- 3:52Dr.C: And so when she checked in at nine o'clock, you know, we were on Zoom and she just didn't look like herself.
- 3:59Dr.C: Something seemed off.
- 4:02Dr.C: And so, you know, we're going through the yada yada, you know, kind of looking at some action items and going through that.
- 4:09Dr.C: Of course, you know, we had her niceties.
- 4:11Dr.C: How you doing?
- 4:11Dr.C: the morning, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 4:14Dr.C: Oh my God.
- 4:14Dr.C: And then we got into the business of it.
- 4:17Dr.C: And, um, She was, I had asked her a question on a policy that they were working on at her organization.
- 4:28Dr.C: And she seemed really frustrated in trying to answer the question.
- 4:33Dr.C: And I just paused and I didn't respond right away.
- 4:36Dr.C: So there was some silence and she said, what's wrong?
- 4:40Dr.C: And I said,
- 4:41Dr.C: well, I actually was going to ask you that question.
- 4:44Dr.C: You seem a little off this morning.
- 4:46Dr.C: And she kind of put her head down in shame and she said, I didn't do my morning affirmations and I just feel completely off.
- 4:56Dr.C: And I said, that's wonderful.
- 5:00Dr.C: Oh my God, I'm so happy to hear that.
- 5:02Dr.C: And she was, she put her head up because I think she thought that I was going to be like, shame, shame, you know.
- 5:08Dr.C: And I was like, that's amazing.
- 5:10Dr.C: That's great.
- 5:11Dr.C: And she said, what?
- 5:12Dr.C: What do you mean that's amazing?
- 5:15Dr.C: And I said, well, if you feel off, that means you have gained some benefits from your morning affirmations.
- 5:21Dr.C: That's amazing.
- 5:23Dr.C: That's a great thing because now you realize, right, the impact.
- 5:27Dr.C: And she just, her shoulders, you know, straightened up and her, puffed her chest out, her chin high.
- 5:35Dr.C: And she said, you know what?
- 5:37Dr.C: You're right.
- 5:38Dr.C: She goes, and thank you so much for not shaming me.
- 5:41Dr.C: I said, oh, honey, I'm not going to shame you.
- 5:44Dr.C: I forget my morning affirmations sometimes too, sometimes on purpose because I'm in a funky mood and I don't want to get out of it, right?
- 5:52Dr.C: I want to sit in it.
- 5:54Dr.C: And so, yeah, this is what wellness is all about.
- 5:58Dr.C: It's not about perfection.
- 6:00Dr.C: It's about an intentional investment.
- 6:04Dr.C: So we had a good laugh.
- 6:05Dr.C: And then I said to her, you know, would you like to do your morning affirmations now?
- 6:11Dr.C: Yeah.
- 6:12Dr.C: And, you know, we could do them together.
- 6:14Dr.C: And she was like, oh, I have never done my morning affirmations with anyone.
- 6:20Dr.C: I said, yeah, it's a collaborative, you know, activity you could do with your spouse or your children.
- 6:26Dr.C: And so she was like, oh, wow.
- 6:29Dr.C: Okay.
- 6:29Dr.C: Why didn't you tell me this before?
- 6:30Dr.C: So we went through a process where I asked her four questions and she asked me the four questions.
- 6:38Dr.C: And so we did our morning affirmations.
- 6:41Dr.C: Now, It was an amazing moment, right?
- 6:45Dr.C: Amazing moment of like an epiphany, an aha moment that she had where she realized that she had been doing her morning affirmations probably for about three months now.
- 6:56Dr.C: And it hadn't been consistent in the way she was doing it, meaning some mornings she did it in her head while taking a shower.
- 7:03Dr.C: Some mornings she actually wrote it out in a journal.
- 7:07Dr.C: Some mornings she did it on the way to work.
- 7:09Dr.C: But she...
- 7:11Dr.C: Always did something.
- 7:13Dr.C: And this morning she had it.
- 7:16Dr.C: She was in a hurry.
- 7:17Dr.C: We later realized she was in a funky mood, right?
- 7:20Dr.C: And she just didn't do it.
- 7:24Dr.C: So I tell you this story to really amplify the message of wellness is not about perfection.
- 7:33Dr.C: Wellness is about investment, an intentional daily investment.
- 7:41Dr.C: Now that looks different depending on who you are, where you are, what your opportunities are throughout the day or in the morning.
- 7:54Dr.C: But be intentional.
- 7:58Dr.C: Start with one small step.
- 8:00Dr.C: Write down what you're grateful for.
- 8:01Dr.C: I have realized in my coaching that A micro step can have such a huge impact.
- 8:12Dr.C: And if you listen to the very first podcast episode, Small Steps, it really walks you through all eight dimensions of wellness and then walks you through a quick micro step activity at the end of the episode.
- 8:29Dr.C: Expressing gratitude is a immune booster, all right?
- 8:36Dr.C: Extending gratitude helps you see the good.
- 8:40Dr.C: It helps train your brain to point out all the blessings and all the great opportunities you may have in front of you, around you, accessible to you.
- 8:52Dr.C: So start with one small step.
- 8:53Dr.C: What are you grateful for?
- 8:54Dr.C: I'll tell you what I'm grateful for.
- 8:57Dr.C: I'm grateful for the opportunity to be able to drive, be able to take myself wherever I need to go.
- 9:04Dr.C: I'm grateful that I have a car that can get me there.
- 9:07Dr.C: But one of the things I do know is even if I didn't have a car, I know that I would be able to get to wherever I need to get to.
- 9:13Dr.C: Not because I got it like that, but because I could take the bus.
- 9:16Dr.C: I could get an Uber or Lyft.
- 9:20Dr.C: I could also call on my social network.
- 9:25Dr.C: And we're going to be having a session on the importance of having a strong social network because that all is an immune fighting, immune boosting system, right?
- 9:34Dr.C: It's an investment in your own longevity, in your own livelihood, having a strong social network.
- 9:42Dr.C: So stop saying you don't like people.
- 9:44Dr.C: Stop saying you don't need friends because that is not true.
- 9:48Dr.C: The science says that we do need that connection.
- 9:51Dr.C: All right.
- 9:52Dr.C: I've talked enough this morning.
- 9:54Dr.C: This is in response to a listener that's, I just want to know a little bit more about you.
- 9:59Dr.C: And I don't know if I necessarily did that with this, but I do know that I'll be doing more of these on my way to work in the morning.
- 10:08Dr.C: Just kind of some thoughts, random thoughts in my head.
- 10:11Dr.C: And yeah, let's get it.
- 10:14Dr.C: Have a great day.
- 10:15Dr.C: Set your intention for today.
- 10:16Dr.C: Today is a fantastic day.
- 10:18Dr.C: It won't be, don't say it will be.
- 10:21Dr.C: Claim it, set it, right?
- 10:24Dr.C: I'm not going going to say today will be a fantastic day because then I'm leaving it up to it might be no today is a fantastic day everything is going to work out in my favor I am highly blessed and I have everything I need to get through today that's it
- 10:49Dr.C: That's my intention that I'm setting for today.
- 10:51Dr.C: I have everything I need to get through today.
- 10:54Dr.C: Not worried about tomorrow.
- 10:55Dr.C: I'm not worried about next week.
- 10:57Dr.C: Present time.
- 10:59Dr.C: I have everything I need to get through today.
- 11:02Dr.C: Today is a fantastic day.
- 11:04Dr.C: Until next time.
