- 0:00SPEAKER_00: The cliche of of running was definitely there because when I talked to people about the bodybuilding thing, they're like, well, you gotta give up, you gotta give up running.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Um, or you you know, you're gonna look flat.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: I was listening to all these people because I was the novice now.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: I had no idea what to do.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: So um I was watching social media, Instagram, and I was seeing what they do, but I wanted to make it my own.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: I knew that I hey what's up everyone.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: Welcome back to the People Run podcast.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: Today I have Bobby here.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: Bobby just went through an incredible journey of trying something new.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: He stepped on a bodybuilding stage, did physique, won two awards.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: He's a runner, but he wanted to venture into this uh physique challenge and kind of see what it's like to like get shredded and and run a show.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: He had great success and he's back on the running train, training again for his next marathon.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: Bobby, first and foremost, thank you for coming to the People Run podcast.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: Uh, how you doing today?
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: I'm good and fit.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: I just want to want to say thank you.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: I appreciate you having me.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure, man.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: I appreciate it.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: I love what you're doing, love what you're sharing.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: So I had to, man.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about what it was like to step on a show stage, physique, bodybuilding.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: You know, runners go.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: I ain't trying to lift no muscle or get that big or shredded, but you started an experiment.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: How did that come about?
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: It was kind of interesting because um, like I would say for the last five, six, seven years, I've been doing marathons pretty consistently.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Um, I have a couple meadows back here.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Um, I was always chasing um certain times, you know.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: I always wanted to be that sub three hour marathon runner.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: So last year at Carlsbad in January, um, you know, I hit my I hit my goal, you know, uh, I believe it was around 256.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: So it was just years and years of of fine-tuning, getting the right workouts, getting the right diet, the right recovery, and then that was it.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: Um, I was like, so what, so what now?
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: So usually after marathons, I usually get back into lifting.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: All right, I'm gonna take a little break, I'm gonna do a couple, couple months, get my body back.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Like I do enjoy having um a physique and you know, like going to the beach and you know, like doing all that.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: So uh usually I kind of just take a break and I get my body pumped back up, and and I I just do enjoy lifting.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: Um, so at in January, it was a couple you know, weeks in maybe, and I was I was on a run, I was running around the neighborhood, and I was just like, yo, why don't I just like go all in?
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: Um like I kind of lift, like I lift hard, and I'm getting to a point where yeah, it you know, my physique is kind of there, but what what is the difference between marathon training, eating consistently, working out consistently, just waking up differently?
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Um, not to wake up for a run, but to wake up for a lift.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: So I started doing research, um, and uh I looked at a couple events in San Diego around the Southern California area, and it kind of matched up because I was like, this will give me three months to prepare, boom, do it.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Got my NPC card that would allow me to compete for the year 2026, and then I just picked just like a marathon, you know, this one looks good, this one is around 14 weeks.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: That's plenty of time, in my opinion.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Um, I have the mentality of like you don't have to get ready if you stay ready.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: So I was kind of already there, so um, I just went all in, started researching, um, looked at looked at my diet.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm an ISSA health coach, so I kind of just did what I do with clients, build a plan for myself, build a workout where I would, you know, running is obviously a lot right now, and then I would just flip it and just just shift it to where I would run to burn fat and just keep cardio going.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: But my my workouts are primarily for lifting, obviously, to get muscle and and do that.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: Um I was meal prepping every day.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Um, I was waking up every day.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: I I still I still focused on recovery.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: It was just a different type of um you know, day-to-day.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: That's insane, man.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: Um, but the fact that you kept running through that too, on top of that, like did you have a fear?
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: Because you know, you got bodybuilders who who do physique, they're like, nah, I'm not doing much cardio, I'm gonna walk, I'm gonna hit a stairmaster, but they're not running.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: And you got runners who are like, I'm lifting, but I ain't lifting four or five times a week.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: Obviously, you got the tools, you lift, you're a coach, you kind of know how to coach yourself in both arenas.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: Did you ever think, okay, I'm running too much, you know, I'm not running enough, I'm lifting too much, I'm lifting too short.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: Like, how did you balance all that before the show?
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: A hundred percent.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: And and it happened early, maybe like my first month, first four weeks, um, because I love running and I love the feeling of it, and I didn't want to let go of it.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, after Carl's bad, I was doing 60 miles, you know, on peak time, 60 miles a week.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Um, so I didn't want to let it go.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: So I negotiated with myself because I needed to lower body fat um to let everything show.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: So I was like, I'm gonna start with 30 miles.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna see how it feels.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: Um, so I did 30 miles a week, and then um it would be kind of on the weekends.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: There wasn't a lot of long runs, it was a lot of zone two work just to not burn glycogen, not to, you know, not to use up cars, but to burn fat.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: And um it just started flipping like 30 miles, turned into 25, turned into 15, turned into five.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: And then I was at a point where I was at five, six percent body fat early, and there was no need for me to um use running anymore.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Um mentally, it was a little bit tough um just because I felt like I was just stuck in this routine now of just lifting, going to work, and you know, running breaks up that monotony for me.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: You know, looking at taillights all day, I'm able to venture off and hit a road and you know, kind of go out and do my thing.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: But um, besides that, um it was it was pretty, it got pretty easy once I was dialed in because just like a marathon training plan, Sundays are long run.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: Like I just had a push-pull leg workout that worked and and I just kind of rolled with it.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: Um, but the cliche of of running was definitely there because when I talked to people about the bodybuilding thing, they're like, Well, you gotta give up, you gotta give up running.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: Um, or you you know, you're gonna look flat.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: I was listening to all these people because I was the novice now.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: I had no idea what to do.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: So um I was watching social media, Instagram, and I was seeing what they do, but I wanted to make it my own.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: I knew that I can do it the way I wanted to.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: I just it was an experiment that I tried, and you know, I thought that it worked really well for the way that I did it.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: When you came up with this experience, it sounds like there kind of was, but was there any doubt in your mind that like, hey, obviously, you know you're gonna show up on the show day, whenever that day is, you know, three months from then, but like that you couldn't do either, like, okay, I'm a runner, there's no way I could do physique, or like I gotta drop running entirely.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: I could do the physique if I drop everything.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, I think towards the end when I wanted to um not be perfect, but I wanted to be show ready.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: So I wanted to make sure that I wasn't I wasn't doing things selfishly.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: Um, like I'm doing running because I am a runner, like I am considered a runner, but I I think towards the end I knew that this was a temporary thing, and I kind of just had to let it go for a second.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: Okay, peak week, obviously, I'm not touching anything.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: Um, the last maybe three weeks, I'm not gonna touch anything.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: Everything's working.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: I was taking progress picks every morning, same position, you know, weigh-ins were same clothes, same position in my in my master bedroom.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: It is on the same tile, like nothing was changing.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: I was very consistent, and I wanted to make sure that there was nothing, um, that no factor would um would be why I'm I'm caught off guard.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, I was doing I was doing meal preps like every holiday.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: I was eating out of I was eating out of Tupperware during Thanksgiving.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: I hit all the holidays.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: Um so if I could hit the holidays now, it it's all easy, it's all uh easy street.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: But um, yeah, I just I I didn't want to label myself um anything.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: I didn't want to be a runner, I didn't want to be a bodybuilder.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: I just wanted to be myself and just to hit a goal, and then after this, there's no label on me.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: I am just coach, I am just I am just Bobby, and it's just another goal that proves like you just have to put the work in.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: It doesn't matter what you think you should do, if you follow the plan and execute it properly, like you could be whatever you want.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: No, I love that, man.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like do it your way.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: Who cares what the the right way is?
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: As you were researching, like you said you were looking some stuff up.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: I'm curious, like what came up, you know, in the physique world, running world, on how to the hybrid world.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: I'm sure you looked at some hybrid, there's some people you looked at.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: Um, people I looked at, I can't remember his name.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: Um, there was a uh there was an Instagram uh person, he's a posing coach, and posing was the hardest part.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Um it's choreography.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: You ask, you ask my wife, you ask anybody that's been to a party with me.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: I'm not dancing.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: So when it comes to footwork, it was it wasn't happening.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: So I had to um I kind of had to do it just like watching runners and seeing what workouts work for them and and making it my own, like taking little pieces and putting them together into my own workout.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: Um, I did it with posing and then I did it with um with people that I would see or just um things I noticed, but I would take little bit of pieces of a posing routine and be like, well, I can't do that.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: Like I I don't even know where to start.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: I didn't hire a posing coach, I didn't hire anybody.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: This was a all-self-taught thing, and I was okay with that because I had zero expectations of placing, or I just wanted to want my family to see what kind of what kind of dad and husband they have that's not gonna give up.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: So I was just like, all right, well, I feel like I can do this, I feel like I can move this way, and you know, I was on stage so blocky and so nervous, but uh I was just piecing pieces together.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: Um, and then all right, this works for me.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: I would take screenshots and I would kind of just try to mimic it.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: I would tell my wife, hey, just just be honest with me, take a video and then just tell me what's up.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: So um she was yelling from the crowd, like, open your open your lats.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: And like she was she was really my my other coach.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: Um, she was like the you know, take no shit coach, like no, you need to you need to fix this before you go.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: And um, she was very supportive throughout this, and my kids were so cute with it, especially like that's cool, you know, being in the bathroom, like having to shave my chest and my my back.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: Everybody thought it was cool, and you know, it was it was a whole family event, and um, you know, I I I really I really enjoyed it, but just um just asking questions and being okay, like life is about being curious, not judgmental.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: So um I would just come in, ask people, um, you know, some of my friends who were in it or knew about it, do you got any tips for me?
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: And I would take it.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: Um, and then when people saw me at the gym, they were asking me questions now, and you know, what are you are you training for something?
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: And it became a really collaborative thing, just like how the running community is.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: Um, it broke that that um that cliche of bodybuilders and like them being very like macho, and it really wasn't like that even backstage.
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: So it was like merging two cultures together, and we're all just people just trying to hit a goal.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: So um it was such a cool experience.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: No, that's awesome, man.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: I love the full family affair support um leading up to the show.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: What was uh any ray any nerves going into the day of the show?
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: Obviously, racing, we got our marathon nerves, you know.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: You going into a bodybuilding show, you got a whole bunch of competitors, like what did it feel like?
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: Did you feel like you belong on that stage?
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: It to be honest, it felt so similar to Marathon because I came in with the same um, like it was me.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: I was authentic the entire time.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: When I'm the morning of a race, I get there really early, um, and I just sit with myself.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: Like I don't really talk to anybody.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm I'm in my head, I'm kind of I'm thinking of the game plan, and and I'm you know, I have reminders on my phone every for everything.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: It's like eat, you know, stretch, do this.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: So I came in with the same mentality.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: I went in and uh it it was alright, eat, but it was alright, I'm eating a rice cake, honey, salt every hour.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: So it was just like so different, and people there was no um there was no like you know doing kick-outs on the road.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: There was no like there was nothing to do.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: We were just backstage, just sitting there, like just laying on the floor with plastic wrap, um spray t spray tanned, uh, and everybody's probably feeling the same way.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: So um I kind of gravitated towards certain vibes, and then um, you know, we and then we started sharing stories, and uh it became that like you're waiting in line in your corral, and you kind of just vibe with one person, and then you wind up like you know, a good race, or like you talk about your shoes or training, whatever the case is.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: I did the same thing, um, just with with uh with a different set of people, and then we just shared where we were from.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: So I mean, I have friends now from the show, you know, we follow each other on Instagram, we support each other, they see that I've transitioned into a runner again, and um, but I'll I'll always have that memory.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: Um I think the the most memorable thing of feeling out of place was when uh the day before it's almost like big bib pickup, but you get your you get your number, you get your little thing that you put on your on your trunks.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: Um, so you do that, everybody's waiting there, they do an intro, you get your bag, you get all that, you get your sponsored stuff, just like a swag bag.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: But then after everything, you go into the left side.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: The the backstage is you know, that's for tomorrow.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: The left side was the tanning area.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: That's when I felt out of place.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: That's when I've that reminded me when I was back in Navy at boot camp, and you just have the first day where you're like showering and like it's the first day and everybody's just there confused.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: That's how I felt.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: I was like, okay, I am here in my underwear and they're about to just spray me with a spray tan, and I think it's gonna I think it's gonna look good, and you just leave.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: So when I left and went home, that's when it got real.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: When I was like, okay, I am I am sleeping in a hoodie and sweatpants, knowing that first thing in the morning I'm going to just have lights on me.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: And they're only like for the most part, there's really like four or five more people on stage with me, but for the most part, all eyes are on me.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: In a race, you're looking at everybody.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: Um, but this was they will look at me and they will look at every part of my body and judge me literally on if I am worthy to get a medal.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: Um, so that that was kind of uh that was kind of intimidating.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: Um, because it wasn't about just enjoying the ride, it was about like okay, I'm I'm here to compete with other people that I wasn't really expecting to.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: What goes through your mind when you're on stage there?
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: Like, obviously, as runners, we critique ourselves often.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: There's all this data, productive, unproductive, guard man, VO to this, uh, this pace, that pace.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: But you step on stage and you just got people, like you said, lights on, looking at you, and they looking at everything.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: Uh, what goes through your mind in that kind of moment?
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: Um, everything went away.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: Everything that I thought about, I had a routine, it all, it all went away.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: It was like performing like a play or something.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: It was just like, and then you forget, and then you forget your lines.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: That's exactly what happened.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: So pre-judging happens first.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: That's the first thing that happens, and I was in two divisions.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: So my first division, I I thought that I completely bombed it, but I felt like my physique was competitive.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: So that's that's what got me to like the next round.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: That's what got me to finals and all that.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: Was like, all right, he has he has a good physique.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: Let's see, maybe in the next round, or let's I I think that that's what it is.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: But like I didn't have my Garmin, I couldn't check my heart rate to see how crazy, you know, I was going.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: But I think when um I looked forward, I didn't look at the judges, I looked forward, and I just saw my wife and kids going crazy.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: Um, I saw how supportive everybody was, and I just saw like these people are here for me.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm gonna own the like I have to own this because this'll I mean it's probably happened again, but in my in my head, this is my last time that I'm I'm gonna do this.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: So just like don't like don't think, just just go out there and try to remember as much as you can and just know that these people paid to to watch you, so um just own it.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: Like you put 14 weeks in.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: It was like right when I was waiting to go up.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: That's when I started hyping myself back up.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: Like, control, control your emotions, control what's in front of you, and all I could do is just smile and um just own it as much as I could.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure, man.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: And and own it you did, you know, you got some uh hardware to go with.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, uh what was that like, man?
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: You put in all these works, family's there, they're screaming, shouting, you know, you you got your you got the feel back.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: You smiling on there, and they go, you know what, hey, first place, you know, uh, I think it was novice, first place novice, third place overall, first show, like two hardware.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: What was that like?
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: Um it was really cool because when I went, so like you do you compete in your divisions and um and then you leave.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: So I was like, well, that was it.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: You know, like I think I guess I'm done.
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: They're like, okay, you're gonna go up again.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: So you go on, and if you place, you know, you do your last thing, and they're gonna say, if you place, you stay there, and then you'll compete with the other people.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: So like I was just expecting go last thing, like you know, to my wife, take take the last pictures, last cheer, kid kids see me one more time, and they were like, Stay.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: They called my name, so it was just weird to be like, um, damn, I'm really staying on stage.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna compete with another group of people.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: Now it was like, all right, now I feel good.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: Now it's just whatever happens, happens.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: Um, but that was really crazy that I stayed there, and then it was really crazy when um I think it went third sec, it went fourth, third, second, and then they they give first, you know.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: So I I thought I was like, all right, I'll get third, that's fine, but when it kept going, just like my smile got bigger, and I was it just felt it just felt so gratifying because I put in work, I put in such quiet work.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: Like I don't post a lot on social media, I don't really talk about what's going on because I don't like to think that ahead of the in the future.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: I like to just live in the moment, live in the present, and it was it was day by day, workout by workout, meal, meal by meal, like I did not like focus too too far ahead.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: So when it all culminated, I was like, damn, I I really I really um I really lived in the moment, so now I can really embrace this moment.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: And it was it just felt it just felt so nice that uh uh another goal was hit, and then that was it.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: And then let's see what happens now.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: Now that you've done it, you got the show out the way, you're back and running.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: Do you ever see yourself competing again?
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: On the stage?
- 20:50SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes, yes, okay it's like it's like it's like you're doing a marathon, and then like uh I remember Carl's bad when I um when I got my goal time, I was so sore.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: My le like my wife threw me in the riding shotgun, and like I was just beat.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: And then like you do the thing.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: I don't know if anybody else does it, but you you you're on a hype still, an adrenaline rush.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so you go on, you're like, all right, so what how many races like what's the most upcoming race that would give me some time?
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: Like, what's another one that I was thinking about doing?
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: It was it was exactly the same.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: It was like um, I remember we did our celebration meal in Little Italy in San Diego, and then in my mind, that's when it hit.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: I was like, I'm gonna see because I have rock and roll San Diego, the marathon, May 31st.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: I was like, I can do one because when you sign up for MPC for your card, it only goes to 2026.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: So in my head, I was like, I got one more in the tank, at least for this year.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: I was like, I'm gonna get my money's worth.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm gonna do one more.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: So then I looked at it and the judges were like, You should come back.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: We're doing one at the end of the year.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: So I think September I think September.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna do another one because that'll allow me to do the exact same thing that I did last last rotation.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: May 31st, you know, June 1st, uh, the race is over.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: It would give me some more months.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: That would give me, you know, a fair amount of months to get back on.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: And um I would just I would do it differently just with maybe opposing coach or just practicing coaching earlier.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: But the diet I thought was on point.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: And um, I I really I really uh was satisfied with the physique I had.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: So um now I'm not a true novice anymore.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: Like now I would compete on a bigger stage, you know, with a bigger division and and all that.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: The other one was Masters 35 that I got 35 plus that I got third place in.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: So I would probably give that one another run, and maybe I'll do open and kind of just be a little bit more competitive.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: And that who knows after that, but I'm I'm I'm chasing another September one ignorantly right now.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know about ignorantly.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: You got one under the belt now, you kind of know what to expect, but yeah, yeah.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: Bigger and better, you know?
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: What kind of parallels have you seen now that you've done this?
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: You've done this show, you had some success on the first one from like running to bodybuilding, right?
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: For example, like you know, you got runners who think, okay, I I can't get too big on muscle, and then the lifters think okay, I can't do too much cardio, because like you mentioned, they're gonna be flat, right?
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: Like, where do they meet in the middle?
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: I think that there's a great balance between it.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, the the food I found a great food regimen.
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: So I feel like marathons marathons is like you can eat whatever you want, and like I just think that it should be consistent and it should be dialed in because you're an athlete, like you should be eating as such.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm not a big person that cheats, but I don't think I I I didn't cheat once in those 14 weeks of training.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: And marathon training, I don't really cheat either.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: Um, I just know numbers.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: So when I'm eating food, I'm looking at numbers, I weigh my food, um, and I'm doing the same thing right now.
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: So um I was at around 2200 calories for MPC prep.
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: Um, the protein was high, around 210 to 230 grams.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: Carbs was like 150 to like one maybe like 190, 200, but the fats were low.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: Um, it's really the same.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: The only the only difference is like I mean I guess I'll answer your question with parallels, is I'm eating carbs cycled around my workouts because when I'm lifting, I want carbs to enter and I want glycogen to fill for the reason of being pumped.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: When I start pumping, you know, yeah, so like that's why backstage I was eating rice cakes, honey, and sea salt, like because I knew it would go fast digesting carbs straight in.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: Nothing's changing.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: Um, like I I use G1M, which is you know, fast digesting carbs supplement.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: Um, before my workouts, I'm doing the same thing on my long run today.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: It's except maybe I'll have two scoops of G1M.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: I had two um I had two rice cakes for a 13-mile rent today, so I'm just eating more.
- 25:19SPEAKER_00: My diet is really not gonna change, I think, because I like what I eat.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: I mix it up, I have a ninja creamy that's that curbs my dessert cravings.
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: It's a high protein cottage cheese blend, and it tastes awesome.
- 25:33SPEAKER_00: I just change the flavors every night.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: So I don't need to cheat because everything is satisfying.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: When something gets boring, uh Italian style, you know, dinner turns into a Mexican-style dinner, turns into a uh Asian-style meal.
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: So the parallels is the diet.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: It it's just you're you're fueling yourself for a different reason.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: I think the parallels is wake up, wake up early.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: Like I'm a very busy person with kids and you know, a business, two bus, you know, like two jobs and and that.
- 26:11SPEAKER_00: So the parallel is wake up earlier, find time.
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: And I found it um I found it first thing in the morning.
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: Now it's just my work my wake up is dedicated to an hour and a half run instead of an hour lift with recovery.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: Um, so nothing changed between that.
- 26:34SPEAKER_00: I go to work after that, and then I eat my meals.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: Um, the parallel is also sleep.
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: I need I get my sleep.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: Um the parallels also uh treat my body like I I would want it to be fueled.
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: I mean, I wasn't drinking, I do enjoy alcohol, but I would I haven't drank it in months.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: Um I went to a birthday party, you know, yesterday.
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: There was alcohol.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: I chose not to.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: Um so I think the discipline that comes with that, um, just being okay with things looking weird, that's a parallel.
- 27:09SPEAKER_00: Some wearing wearing short ass shorts in Southern California in my neighborhood might look weird.
- 27:16SPEAKER_00: Wearing tights, you know, wearing like sleeves or you know, bright colored shoes, like all of that looks weird to some people, but it's what's you have a goal being at the mall eating tupperware, eating tupperware with cold, you know, ground chicken peppers during NPC prep, that's kind of weird, but yeah, I don't care.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: So the parallel is like own own your goals.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: Um, and and that's gonna continue to happen moving on to marathon prep.
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: Um, and then the other parallels always show up for my family and the people that I love, even people at work, you know.
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: Like, I know I'm tired, I know I didn't get a lot of sleep because I chose to work out, but I have a team to lead, I have a family to provide for.
- 27:58SPEAKER_00: So show up, keep your promises.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: How do you feel about glycogen now, post bodybuilding show, getting back into running lifters, bodybuilders?
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: You kind of manipulate, if you will, glycogen.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: Like you mentioned, it's gotta go in the muscles.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: You know, you turn it down sometimes, you turn it back up because you cycle where like in running space, you need a lot of it at all times.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: Um what have you learned through the process for yourself now that you're back in marathon training with glycogen?
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: I want to thank MPC Prep for making me understand how much I was under-eating.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: Um I was I was running, but I wanted a physique.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: I was having low-carb tortillas that were like all fiber.
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: I wasn't having carbs or enough of it.
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: I changed my workout or I changed my nutrition, my diet, and like the beginning of physique training, I had like I was weighing it, but I was having over two cups of rice for dinner, and I was like, how does this make sense?
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: Like, how does 200, you know, sometimes 250 grams of carbs, how does this make sense if I'm trying to lose weight?
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: But it's the glycogen, like, it's the it's it's how you manipulate it, how you use it for fuel.
- 29:14SPEAKER_00: And why was I why were my cortisol levels spiked during post like during previous runs or like the the failed marathons?
- 29:23SPEAKER_00: Like, why did I always hit a wall?
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: Or like why was I so tired and unmotivated and uh like yeah, just like short.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: I was short with people because I'm like, I'm just so tired because I wasn't having any I wasn't having any carbs.
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: So like I'm doubling it now.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: I feel so much better, I feel fuller.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: And MPC prep helped me realize how much my body needed to be like to have a great physique, to be a great, um, you know, to have like to be a great athlete.
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: Like you need that stuff.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: So um when you want a physique and when you want to train, like you can go, you can eat more and still do it.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: So I wanted to prove that to myself, and I wanted to prove it to clients and people around me that like, yeah, I'm eating a lot, but um, if you if you don't, this is what's gonna happen, and I I did that so you don't have to.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: You feel like you understand your body better now, post-show, and and now that you back in it with more fuel.
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: Um, and the reason why I didn't want to cheat, have cheat meals, and the reason why I didn't want to deviate from my meals, yeah, I got a little redundant and all that, but um, when you're focused, you're okay with it, and when you do an experiment, you need to have constants.
- 30:42SPEAKER_00: And for me, it was the constant was food, the workouts, and for for the most part, um maybe sleep, but for the most part, my day-to-day was as routine as you can get, besides a couple vacations and things like that.
- 30:57SPEAKER_00: But um, I understand my body now because I would weigh myself and I'd be like, How did I gain three pounds?
- 31:06SPEAKER_00: And I'm eating, drinking, doing the same stuff.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: Like, how am I just if you look at my garment chart, it's just like up and down cortisol spikes, inflammation, um, stress, all of that played the factor that would always change because I knew the constant was gonna be the stuff that I was controlling.
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: The stuff that I couldn't control were the factors where I was like, now I need to, I need to, I need to tap into that.
- 31:34SPEAKER_00: Why are my cortisol levels so high?
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: Alright, how can I mitigate that in this experiment?
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: Alright, I'm gonna continue to meditate more.
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go on trips that are less stressful, and we're gonna go to the beach instead.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: We're just gonna I'm gonna kick my feet up instead of like walking downtown wherever, it made me know my body better, but then it made me a better person.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: What was the most surprising thing during this experiment and journey?
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: Um I think it was surprising that I thought that I didn't I couldn't do it and I didn't belong.
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: And I maybe I felt that way when I first started running.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: I had cross-country experience, but I didn't take it seriously.
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: But I think I realized um like how limitless a human can be and how ego plays a role in that and pride, and when you kind of get in your head and you realize like I don't belong here, it all it all falls.
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: So um I think just owning who I am and realizing that the work that I put in creates results because I remain positive and I remain um strict with myself, but also understanding that the body has stress and has to mitigate it through channels like meditation and you know, breath work and just talking to people, um, being open, eliminating the ego to be like, if I if I say this, I might seem weak.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: Um, just being a authentic, genuine person um can create like very limitless results, and it can become contagious.
- 33:11SPEAKER_00: So um I I just want to surround myself with people like that, and I want to be a factor that can like shine light in that way.
- 33:19SPEAKER_01: What do you find harder?
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: The race marathon-wise mentally, or doing this show I immediately stepping off stage, uh marathon training is a hundred times harder.
- 33:33SPEAKER_00: Week one, which was two weeks ago, I was like, damn, like this is different now.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: Because there's so many other factors.
- 33:40SPEAKER_00: Like I drive to the gym, I do a workout.
- 33:43SPEAKER_00: It's very hard to um, it's very hard to hurt yourself because when you're building muscle, it's just tension, you're creating tension.
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: You're not I'm not doing crazy workouts, I'm doing like the the basic stuff, like I'm doing an incline press with dumbbells, I'm controlling the weight, I'm stretching it up top, I'm able to move, you know, the little dial for how much weight I want.
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: But you're on the road, there's so many other factors.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: You slip on the sidewalk or you go too fast, and your your endorphins are going, you're you're you want to go harder.
- 34:18SPEAKER_00: Like that was really tough these last couple weeks.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: I wanted to push it, and I had to this the the the fast runs will come, the more interesting runs are coming.
- 34:27SPEAKER_00: They're here now already.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: I mean, it'll be week three.
- 34:31SPEAKER_00: They're already here because I have 10 weeks left.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: So I was like, just just give two weeks, just be patient with yourself.
- 34:37SPEAKER_00: Um, so when you when you want to go out, there's a lot of factors, and then um just injuries are way different because you have joints and you have like your back, like I'm older, like I'm getting older, and I'm heavier than most runners, so my lower back gives out.
- 34:53SPEAKER_00: And if you don't, if you skip a recovery mobility day, like it could ruin everything, or yeah, being under fuel during a race, there's just so many factors that come with it, like a race.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: I can't sleep before it, so I know I'm gonna wake up, garment score, body battery fucking 40.
- 35:12SPEAKER_00: Like, so you're already you're already going against like factors that are really hard to control.
- 35:19SPEAKER_00: Um, sleep, you know, being being uh being up and with your thoughts.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: So there's just so many factors.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: Marathon training, unless I get really competitive with bodybuilding, and maybe I'm missing something and posing gets harder, but marathon training is to me way more difficult.
- 35:36SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: Well, now the focus is uh San Diego rock and roll, right?
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: How does this bill feel different?
- 35:46SPEAKER_00: It feels more calculated, and it feels it feels like I just never uh like nothing's changed.
- 35:55SPEAKER_00: Um like a work week, nothing's really changed.
- 35:58SPEAKER_00: My alarm wakes up at the same time, and still I never snooze it.
- 36:03SPEAKER_00: I know that I have a goal that I want to hit, it's just a different date, and it's just with different gear.
- 36:10SPEAKER_00: I'm buying running shoes, you know, like it's just it's it's just a different mindset.
- 36:16SPEAKER_00: But um this one is different because I feel like I'm stronger mentally and physically, and I'm I won't neglect strength training like I used to.
- 36:28SPEAKER_00: Like I'm my my my physique training splits per week changed every every week.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: Um, but I'm just keeping those factors that I enjoy, you know, like one to two physique days, but like a um a core day is always there.
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: And this one feels different because I'm still around like I mean I spiked after competition, but I'm still a very low body pat body fat percentage.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: When I was running before MPC, I was like 187, I'm 173, I think, this morning.
- 37:01SPEAKER_00: So I feel lighter and I feel I but I still feel stronger.
- 37:05SPEAKER_00: So like the muscle, the muscle is just allowing me to go further.
- 37:10SPEAKER_00: Like that was my first long run today.
- 37:12SPEAKER_00: I added a couple um increments into it.
- 37:14SPEAKER_00: My last mile was marathon, goal pace, and I had still I had a lot left in the tank.
- 37:19SPEAKER_00: So my body is just feels feels good, and then I fueled properly.
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: So now throughout the day, I'm not just like I need to take a nap.
- 37:27SPEAKER_00: It's like I'm ready to do an interview with you.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: I'm ready to like go hang out with my kids after this, and like now, yeah, yeah.
- 37:34SPEAKER_00: It's like it just feels way different, and maybe it's in my head too, where I just I feel like yeah, I just feel like a goal can be hit and just just do it, like just go for it.
- 37:45SPEAKER_01: I'm curious, right?
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: Like bodybuilding, you often contracting the muscles and focusing on that contraction of the muscles and the posing, you're holding it for a long time.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: Do you feel now as you're running and you're starting to dabble into the faster paces that you can maybe use your muscle and contract them better for running nowadays?
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: You know, after going because you're really going through it in a bodybuilding show.
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: That happened today, actually.
- 38:08SPEAKER_00: Um that's that's really cool that you brought that up.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: I was at um so it was like my my third increment.
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: So like I I was going like a minute faster per per mile.
- 38:18SPEAKER_00: Everyone, so I was in like my third one right before marathon pace.
- 38:23SPEAKER_00: Um, and when you do certain like every exercise I was doing, you have to keep your ribs down, you know, like and when you pose, you have to, it's almost like when you're posing, you have to push down.
- 38:36SPEAKER_00: You don't push back forward, like it's it's a weird posing thing where like your ribs stay straight, um, and then all your muscles are pushing down.
- 38:45SPEAKER_00: So when I was doing that during my run today, I I was telling myself in my head, like I was saying it, I was like, uh, keep your ribs down or keep your like keep everything because then the core is fine.
- 38:57SPEAKER_00: My legs have enough energy and power to move.
- 39:00SPEAKER_00: It's when you get when your cadence gets a little bit off, when you get tired, I was just like, keep your ribs down, um, keep your core tight.
- 39:09SPEAKER_00: It was doing I was doing the same thing as like a uh as a cable crunch when you're you're moving everything down or a lap, a lap, um uh straight arm pull down, like it everything was aligning because I know my body like very well now, and I know which muscle is gonna do something.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's cool.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I kind of figured, you know, obviously, because you know what to get track, what to use coming fresh off.
- 39:30SPEAKER_01: You kind of didn't take much of a break, uh it sounds like intentionally, but you get to use all the muscle and food and everything you learned right towards the whole marathon block, which is kind of unheard of, if you will.
- 39:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um the competition was Saturday.
- 39:45SPEAKER_00: Um, I think I took Sunday off just because all that food was like really messed me up.
- 39:49SPEAKER_00: I don't know what it was, but like I so I took Sunday off, and then Monday I was like, I'm gonna I'm gonna go.
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: Like week one starts.
- 39:55SPEAKER_00: So, but I wanted it like that.
- 39:57SPEAKER_00: I didn't want to I didn't want to waste any time.
- 39:59SPEAKER_00: And I didn't want and I don't think that my I don't think I would have been okay with that.
- 40:04SPEAKER_00: Like I don't think that I would have been okay with a week of doing something that I love, you know, and having that outlet, waking up early, and just having time with myself to either organize my thoughts for the day or um have new ideas because this idea came from a morning run, so uh I just wanted to see what else would come of it.
- 40:23SPEAKER_00: Maybe maybe my mind would change, maybe I wouldn't even do the race, but yeah, uh it it just it allowed me to just stay fresh.
- 40:31SPEAKER_01: What's the goal for San Diego now?
- 40:33SPEAKER_01: Is it look, I'm gonna have fun off my build or I'm gonna go for it?
- 40:37SPEAKER_00: I'm afraid not.
- 40:38SPEAKER_00: I'm afraid it is not about it's obviously about having fun, but um I'm in that I'm in that phase where like I like to show up and I like to compete with myself.
- 40:49SPEAKER_00: And I think the NPC, you know, the competition was about competing with myself, um, and that was cool.
- 40:56SPEAKER_00: But this one is like um I'm I'm gonna go for probably like two hours 50.
- 41:01SPEAKER_00: Um that seems like a that seems like a reasonable time.
- 41:04SPEAKER_00: Uh San Diego has uh I think like at mile 22 to 26, it's all uphill on the highway.
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: So that's like usually the killer hill.
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: So I want to be able to um finish the race injury free.
- 41:18SPEAKER_00: If I hit my time, that's cool.
- 41:19SPEAKER_00: If I don't, I mean I'm uh you know, I met my wife in San Diego, we live downtown, so it's cool to always I love that race because you run by all the memories when I was uh you know, when I was a young kid in the Navy, being stationed in San Diego, meeting my wife and and all that stuff, living in gas lamp to little Italy, and you're able to see it and and all of it jots your memory.
- 41:41SPEAKER_00: So I I want to continue to do that.
- 41:43SPEAKER_00: I want to enjoy the moment, but I also want to cross the finish line and be like, I did, I did what I said what I was gonna do.
- 41:49SPEAKER_00: The training was tight, I didn't cheat, I didn't compromise with myself and and and being okay with that.
- 41:56SPEAKER_01: Does it mean different to you now, this goal?
- 41:59SPEAKER_01: Like the 250?
- 42:00SPEAKER_01: Obviously, it's a little faster, but going through this year you've been going through, um what's where's your mind at?
- 42:07SPEAKER_00: Um it actually feels less important to me.
- 42:10SPEAKER_00: Um, I've really I've really uh enjoyed coaching other people, and um, you know, my c one one of my clients will be there.
- 42:20SPEAKER_00: He's gonna do the half marathon.
- 42:22SPEAKER_00: So I feel like it's less about me, it's less important about my goals.
- 42:26SPEAKER_00: Um, I I want to uh I want to re represent vivid coaching and myself uh as respectively and um and competitively as I can as a coach who has high standards for myself.
- 42:39SPEAKER_00: Um but I think it's gonna be more gratifying when I see the people that I have influenced that um did the race, uh, that that signed up for the race because they heard I was doing it and they wanted to they wanted to um uh have a new goal for themselves.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: And then my client who has a uh very optimistic goal, it's it's gonna be more gratifying to me when I see him at the finish line and I see his face and all the work that we've put in, all the text messages and calls and um and and the plan that he's not deviating from.
- 43:13SPEAKER_00: Uh it's gonna be very gratifying to see him cross the finish line and for us to to share a beer at the end and celebrate.
- 43:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:20SPEAKER_01: No, that's awesome, man.
- 43:22SPEAKER_01: You know, talking about sharing and celebrating, I've seen a lot of your pictures.
- 43:25SPEAKER_01: You always have the family around, you know, uh for the show.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: I saw the poster, family out there, either at your races too.
- 43:32SPEAKER_01: They'll probably be at this next race.
- 43:33SPEAKER_01: What's it like for you, man, having the family there and and the kids just seeing, you know, dad grow up into like, man, my dad's strong, he lifts.
- 43:40SPEAKER_01: Damn, my dad is fast, he runs.
- 43:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 43:43SPEAKER_00: I it it's just really cool.
- 43:45SPEAKER_00: And it and when you go through the memories and you see, like, I mean, there's a couple pictures where like we're doing the same, like we're at we're at Pacific Beach and and we're doing the same pose and like you know, like in the same position uh in the years go by.
- 43:59SPEAKER_00: And it's really Cool and for a bunch of kids and a wife to get up and drive or make signs, like I don't tell them to do any of this stuff.
- 44:08SPEAKER_00: They want to.
- 44:09SPEAKER_00: So like it I was like, yeah, I can just go and like drive, and but it it seeing them and enjoying it, it it it means the world.
- 44:18SPEAKER_00: And um for people that are dad runners and that have kids that follow them, like it really is something really cool.
- 44:26SPEAKER_00: And then um I just want my kids to be older, and you know, they grow up and they just like they just know that their dad went and got whatever he put his mind to whatever he could, and and for that to like I said, be contagious.
- 44:39SPEAKER_00: Like, I just want my kids to know what what they are capable of and that they have two parents that will support them anyway, and that we lived it as well.
- 44:48SPEAKER_00: Um I might be strict at times, but then we also understand like what it takes to get there.
- 44:55SPEAKER_01: What are those uh in-between moments like?
- 44:56SPEAKER_01: You know, they see you train in summer, you out for a run, like what kind of things do they say or think, you know?
- 45:04SPEAKER_00: It must be tough because it is it is tough to leave, you know, like today, like almost two hours.
- 45:11SPEAKER_00: Um, so that what I can do is just try to leave as early as I can um so that it's not interrupting family time.
- 45:18SPEAKER_00: I came back at like nine and we we had breakfast with each other.
- 45:22SPEAKER_00: Um, but now it's like my my son was up, he was reading, um, reading in the morning, and he w he was just like, Are are you going for a run?
- 45:31SPEAKER_00: I was like, Yeah, I'm going for a run.
- 45:32SPEAKER_00: How long are you gonna be?
- 45:33SPEAKER_00: I told him, he's like, okay, I'll see you soon.
- 45:35SPEAKER_00: So he's understanding that it's just a routine.
- 45:38SPEAKER_00: Um, and then like you know, I I just I do what I always do.
- 45:41SPEAKER_00: I I tell them I love them, I I I shut the door behind me, and I'm just very grateful for um for a family that that loves me, supports me, and all the crazy goals that I have and and makes time for them as well.
- 45:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure.
- 45:56SPEAKER_01: No, that's really cool, man.
- 45:58SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, you might have some runners or bodybuilders on you in the future here.
- 46:04SPEAKER_01: That they're watching you every day, every morning, you know?
- 46:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 46:08SPEAKER_00: My my son is the music one, my daughter is more inclined to athletics, but let's see what happens.
- 46:13SPEAKER_00: I was it I grew into my body very late too, so I was a very skinny cross-country runner that that didn't do well.
- 46:21SPEAKER_00: And uh it just at least they have a dad where we can work on stuff, like as a coach, like I can help him in any way or help her in any way, and uh, but we'll see, whatever they want to do.
- 46:32SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, I I support them.
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: Do you ever feel the pressure of like balancing it all?
- 46:36SPEAKER_01: You know, you got fatherhood, you got your clients trading yourself, you got your shows, you know, you got the missus, you morning, evening, night.
- 46:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: What's the success there?
- 46:48SPEAKER_00: The keys.
- 46:50SPEAKER_00: It is a lot for me.
- 46:52SPEAKER_00: It's like an outlook calendar that's just all blocks.
- 46:56SPEAKER_00: And I'm okay with that because I understand how precious time is, and I try not to waste it in your day if you just if you just don't think of it as so busy, but you just think of it as the life that you you want for yourself.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh I love that.
- 47:13SPEAKER_01: The life you want to live for yourself.
- 47:15SPEAKER_01: Couldn't have said any better there.
- 47:17SPEAKER_01: Uh Bobby, what are you most looking forward to right now, now that you're moving forward from this show?
- 47:23SPEAKER_00: Um I am looking forward to hitting my goals this year.
- 47:28SPEAKER_00: Um, so I journal every October, the day before my birthday, kind of like you know, like October to October is my my goal time.
- 47:35SPEAKER_00: I don't do January to December 31st.
- 47:38SPEAKER_00: Um, and I journal what I want to do for the year.
- 47:41SPEAKER_00: This one can kind of came out of nowhere, the NPC thing.
- 47:44SPEAKER_00: Like that wasn't part of the plan, so I added it.
- 47:47SPEAKER_00: But I want to I want to continue to hit my goals.
- 47:50SPEAKER_00: I want to continue to see new sites with my family.
- 47:52SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, we bought a camper, we're gonna be doing camping.
- 47:55SPEAKER_00: We're gonna that's cool, you know, we're we're gonna be hitting states that we've never hit before, or um, you know, if a race comes up, I'll hit it.
- 48:03SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, continue with uh my master's degree and um try to build my business as much as I can and try to be present within the community and um try to be a good influence with vivid coaching and see where that comes this year and uh just continue to show it for my family, show it for my friends, and and just see what see what comes of it.
- 48:24SPEAKER_00: But we'll we'll start with this race coming up May 31st and I'll probably go on my phone and look for another race before the year, and then I'll I'll jump into MPC and just do the do it all over again.
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: That's awesome, Bobby.
- 48:36SPEAKER_01: Looking forward to your uh coming race here, San Diego.
- 48:39SPEAKER_01: Uh you you're gonna crush it, man.
- 48:41SPEAKER_01: You're ahead of the game already.
- 48:42SPEAKER_01: Looking forward to seeing you and the family trips, man.
- 48:44SPEAKER_01: Everyone who's been listening, uh, this is Bobby, people run podcast and vivid coaching.
- 48:49SPEAKER_01: Um, check him out, man.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: He's doing some great things coming off a show.
- 48:52SPEAKER_01: We're gonna hit a 250 here in San Diego.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: Um Bobby, thank you for coming on, man.
- 49:00SPEAKER_00: Thanks for having us, man.
