  Let's get into the case that we're talking about today, which
• 5:20
  of course is the case of missing 84 year old Nancy Guthrie.

  She is the mother of Savannah Guthrie.

  On January 31st, which was a Saturday, she was last seen by
• 5:29
  family members when they dropped her off at her home in the
• 5:33
  Tucson area. She did not show up for church
• 5:38
  the next day whether it was in person or remotely.
• 5:41
  She was a churchgoer and members of her congregation were like,
• 5:46
  where is Nancy? And they alerted family who went
• 5:51
  over to check on their mom and could not find her and found
• 5:55
  what looked like a crime scene and then called police.

  And it is that's when it started February 1st.
• 6:07
  So this is day 20. Tomorrow will be day 21.

  I sure. Oh my goodness.

  I hope that we that we find Nancy.

  But let's talk today. I'm, I am kind of piling on a

  little bit on law enforcement because it does appear that in
• 6:29
  the beginning there were some blunders, not the classic
• 6:33
  blenders like getting involved in a land war in Asia, but but
• 6:37
  more modern blunders. And, and there are critics of
• 6:43
  Sheriff Chris Nanos who are pointing those out.

  Now, it was reported yesterday that if the family would ask for
• 6:52
  the FB is involvement that they would take charge.
• 6:56
  I'm not sure that that's true because I don't know that we
• 7:00
  know that this is an Interstate case.

  I mean, well, TMZ is in California.

  They got emails. I guess that makes it

  Interstate. But I don't think it's just the

  family requesting it. That would that would make the

  blunder, This written by Chadwick Moore in the New York

  Post FBI sources said this week that kidnapped Nancy Guthrie may
• 11:15
  be in Mexico, while the sheriff in Pima County, Arizona claimed
• 11:19
  his team's evidence puts her in Tucson.

  It's just one of many rifts between local cops and the feds,
• 11:26
  which critics say is a major reason why little progress has
• 11:29
  been made in finding today's show.

  Co host Savannah Guthrie's 84 year old mom who was abducted

  from her home on February 1st. This is a quote from Aaron Cross

  that we that we learned about yesterday.

  The FBI should have taken this case over within the first few
• 11:44
  days. We've been treating this as a
• 11:46
  kidnapping and the FBI is the premier agency to deal with
• 11:50
  kidnappings, Aaron Cross, president of the Pima County
• 11:53
  Deputies Association, told the Post earlier this week.

  You know, in my experience at least reporting out here in
• 12:00
  western PA, in parts of Ohio, I've never run into an actual
• 12:06
  jurisdictional like, sorry for the crudeness or the roughness
• 12:13
  of this, but like pissing match. I've, I've never experienced
• 12:17
  that in small municipalities. They welcome the larger state
• 12:22
  and federal agencies to come help them.

  It seemed like that's what was happening in Pima County, but
• 12:32
  not according to Aaron Cross. But hard headed.

  And this is not me. This is the characterization of
• 12:40
  the New York Post, but hard headed Sheriff Chris Nanos is
• 12:43
  keeping a tight grip on the case even though it's been over a
• 12:46
  week since recovered doorbell footage of a masked man at
• 12:49
  Guthrie's door was revealed. Of course, we I'll just kind of
• 12:54
  show these. And cops are no closer to
• 12:58
  finding her. Well, that we know of.

  I should say that. Here's how the evidence in the
• 13:05
  case has been handled and bungled in the desperate search
• 13:09
  for answers, according to the New York Post.
• 13:12
  The FBI wasn't called in for the first couple of days despite the
• 13:16
  high profile abduction needing resources beyond what Tucson can
• 13:20
  offer, critics say. There's also criticism that
• 13:25
  local cops surrendered the scene too early, with everyone from
• 13:29
  reporters to to to true crime sleuths able to walk right up to
• 13:34
  Guthrie's front door with no security or crime scene tape.
• 13:38

  It doesn't look good for our department when we've had
• 13:42
  reporters walking up and essentially contaminating the
• 13:45
  scene, Cross said. This is that's a quote from the

  article that we read yesterday too.

  On top of that, a roof mounted camera was overlooked during the
• 13:53
  sheriff's cursory review and only found by the FBI in a more
• 13:59
  thorough sweep. And I've seen an image in the

  New York Post fact. I can probably bring that up.

  Yeah, maybe it wasn't in this, I guess it wasn't in this article.

  But anyway of a mount for a camera, it was an exterior and

  it looks like a mount for a camera, but I don't think that

  But anyway, that's, that's what New York Post is saying.

  The Pima County Sheriff's Department announced Wednesday
• 14:51
  it is, quote, analyzing biological evidence found at
• 14:54
  Guthrie's home and had potentially retrieved new DNA
• 14:58
  left by the suspect. However, the search for DNA
• 15:00
  evidence has so far proven unfruitful.
• 15:04
  A miles wide dragnet around Guthrie's home in Tucson
• 15:08
  recovered 17 discarded gloves, 16 of which turned out to have
• 15:13
  been abandoned by law enforcement officers during the
• 15:15
  manhunt. OK, listen, I am seeing the tear
• 15:20
  dropping from the face of one of our Native American brethren who
• 15:26
  wasn't the actor, really wasn't Native American from this 1970s
• 15:29
  commercial about littering. What is law enforcement doing

  dropping black gloves all over the place?

  17 of them were discarded and 16 of them or 17 were, were were
• 15:42
  found, sixteen of which were discarded by law enforcement
• 15:45
  during the manhunt. Come on, as we say in
• 15:49
  Pennsylvania, keep Pennsylvania beautiful.

  One glove found on a roadside 2 miles from Guthrie's home
• 15:58
  resembled the black gloves worn by the man in the Nest doorbell

  Nest doorbell video, Cop said. However, it was sent to a

  Florida based DNA to Florida based DNA Labs International
• 16:10
  instead of FBI labs in Quantico, Virginia, causing more
• 16:14
  contention between the local cops and the feds.

  OK, quote Nanos has insisted instead on using a private lab

  in Florida, an anonymous law enforcement source told Fox

  Digital. The lab, which costs around

  $200,000 was I guess a year, was chosen because of its special

  specialization in forensic genealogy, Pima County officials

  said. Colleen Fitzpatrick, who is a

  legend by the way, ever since ever since the Golden State

  Killer. So Colleen Fitzpatrick, who has
• 16:56
  worked with the Florida lab, explained it would generate a
• 16:59
  multitude of leads. If the guy's from Morocco, for

  example, you're not going to find out who he is, but you'll
• 17:05
  know he's from Morocco, which is an investigative lead,
• 17:08
  Fitzpatrick told The Post. However, it was announced this
• 17:11
  week the DNA on the glove did not fit with that of an unknown
• 17:14
  male that was found at Guthrie's home, nor did the DNA from
• 17:19
  either return a hit in the CODIS database.

  The FB is national DNA database of convicted offenders and
• 17:29
  arrestees. Hey they they corrected that.

  They said that correctly. Good job.

  Sheriff's also said this week that all of Guthrie's family
• 17:37
  have been cleared in any involvement in her kidnap.

  Though I've heard that that's been walked back.

  All right. The ransom notes, multiple notes
• 17:46
  have been delivered to news outlets.

  As we all know on this channel, at least 2 notes have asked for
• 17:51
  a ransom to be paid in two different crypto currencies to
• 17:56
  different crypto wallets. However, the notes provided no
• 18:01
  proof of life and their deadlines have come and gone,
• 18:03
  making many doubt their authenticity.

  Experts told the Post that asking for crypto is an amateur
• 18:10
  move, as it's easily traceable. e-mail addresses of the senders
• 18:15
  are also unlikely to yield much. William Odom, a digital
• 18:19
  forensics expert formerly with the FBI, said smart criminals
• 18:22
  don't use Gmail or Yahoo, for example, but communicate by
• 18:25
  burner e-mail accounts. Quote.

  They're impossible to trace back because there's no way to tell
• 18:31
  where the source is coming from, Odom told the Post.

  Well, sort of, sort of. Well, I mean, he knows better

  than me, but I mean, you'd be able to trace the routers that

  it went through. So anyway, continuing the quote,

  it would look like different e-mail addresses coming through

  every time. Those free disposable e-mail

  addresses are usually hosted on servers outside the US in places

  like Montenegro and Germany, Odom said.

  Video evidence It took ten days to recover crucial footage from
• 19:08
  Guthrie's Google Nest doorbell camera of a masked, armed man
• 19:13
  about 5 feet 9 to 5 feet 10 average build, wearing gloves
• 19:17
  and an Ozark Trail backpack tampering with the evidence in
• 19:21
  the early morning on the day of her disappearance.

  The backpack is sold exclusively at Walmart, which is cooperating
• 19:27
  with authorities to try to pinpoint the sale.

  It took a team of digital forensics investigators from the
• 19:33
  FBI, along with cooperation from Google to get the doorbell
• 19:37
  footage, as Guthrie did not subscribe to a storage service.

  If the assailant hadn't crushed the camera.

  This is important and interesting.

  her home. Experts told The Post that more

  video could be coming. But investigators are sifting

  Sheriff Department's aviation unit launch was delayed due to

  lack of staff, leaving vast airspace unsearched in the

  crucial early hours of the investigation.

  Now cops are deploying a new tech flying over the Tucson

  desert with a Bluetooth signal detector called a signal

  sniffer, which again, we have heard about before, in an

  attempt to locate Guthrie's pacemaker, which stopped

  communicating with her iPhone at 2:28 AM on February 1st.

  Using a helicopter to flow to fly in a low, slow grid pattern,

  the sheriff is deploying advanced FBI technology to try
• 21:03
  to pick up a ping from Guthrie's heart device.

  But the chopper will have to get very close to catch a signal

  within 800 feet, the device's inventor told CBS News, adding

  that it will still work if she is now deceased.

  Now here's the thing that kind of upsets me.

  because it's possible that the abductors had no idea that her

  pacemaker could broadcast 800 feet, and now they do.

  does one block that signal it? It's actually real simple.

  case so far. Felon Luke Delay, 37, and his 77

  year old mom were detained by police for questioning on

  February 13th after FBI agents and a SWAT team swarmed their

  was also briefly detained on February 11th.

  He was stopped by police as he drove toward the US border.

  However, the delivery driver was also let go a short time later.

  So we got no arrests. Turning to Mexico, which we
• 23:52
  talked a little bit about yesterday.

  The motive for the apparent kidnapping isn't even clear.
• 23:58
  Officials have ruled out a burglary gone wrong, and Nanos

  has said Guthrie could have been snatched as, quote, revenge for
• 24:05
  something. But little else has been made
• 24:08
  public. Social media users have
• 24:09
  speculated the kidnapping may be linked to Mexico's notoriously
• 24:14
  ruthless drug cartels. Well, it's not just social media
• 24:19
  users, it's also former FBI personnel have said that, citing
• 24:24
  a profit motive and Tucson's proximity to the border.

  I, I don't know, I think in the political environment today, and

  this is not a commentary of the political environment.

  I like to keep this a politics free show, but I think cartels

  are concerned, especially in light of what has happened in
• 24:46
  Venezuela. I think, I think the cartels, I

  don't know that they would escalate on US soil.

  But again, what do I know? And I'd love to know your

  opinion. Unnamed sources told TMZ the FBI

  had been in. Contact with Mexican officials.

  Boyer, an expert on Mexican security, told the Post he

  doesn't think that if she had been taken there, cartels would

  be involved. Cartels are going to target

  people in Mexico. They're, they're not targeting

  people in the US. Why would they bring attention

  to themselves? He questioned, adding that

  cartel kidnapping schemes usually relate to local

  extortion plots and business interests.

  don't give away certain key information if it could harm

  their investigation. But an Arizona gun store owner

  says the FBI recently came to him with a list of approximately

  18 to 24 individuals with photos asking if he had sold them a

  weapon. He said he agreed to help out of

  concern for Guthrie's family. Of course, Brian Enton reported

  that it was multiple gun stores and it was like 40 photos.
