- 0:40Speaker 1: bringing you the tools, knowledge and resources for you to thrive.
- 0:44Speaker 2: She's on the Money. She's on the Money. Hello and
- 1:08Speaker 2: welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast that knows.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Sometimes a spreadsheet isn't going to cut it. Sometimes you
- 1:13Speaker 2: need to put your money in the freezer, or cut
- 1:16Speaker 2: your credit card in half, something a little bit more unhinged.
- 1:19Speaker 2: I would say I'm becksited, and today Victoria is not
- 1:22Speaker 2: here because Victoria has something called financial qualifications, and honestly,
- 1:28Speaker 2: I mean that sounds awful. I'm so sorry my thoughts
- 1:30Speaker 2: are with her today. That just gets in the way
- 1:33Speaker 2: of the chaos where about to unleash, I would say, so,
- 1:36Speaker 2: I'm glad that she's not here with all of her
- 1:38Speaker 2: financial qualifications spreading her seed today. I actually have Jessica
- 1:43Speaker 2: Ricky with me and while Victoria's away, we're doing some
- 1:46Speaker 2: serious financial expert things. I've been left unsupervised and I've
- 1:50Speaker 2: gone behind her back in books this year and I
- 1:53Speaker 2: brought back up. Hello yescaiki, Hello, It's always the time
- 1:56Speaker 2: when we get to do an episode together. I know,
- 1:58Speaker 2: I'm so excited. We really couldn't say whatever we want. Yeah,
- 2:02Speaker 2: it doesn't have to be fact checked, doesn't have to
- 2:04Speaker 2: be true, any of those boring things.
- 2:10Speaker 3: But yeah, at the top, if you're hoping for serious
- 2:12Speaker 3: financial advice, perhaps today is not the episode for you.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I completely agree. But if you are just
- 2:17Speaker 2: looking for something that is, I know, maybe like crazy
- 2:20Speaker 2: smart that you hadn't thought of before, this is the
- 2:23Speaker 2: episode for you. You know you're setting them up. We're
- 2:26Speaker 2: gonna blow your sucks off. We may wait, not blow
- 2:30Speaker 2: your socks off, so i'd be wearing some. You know
- 2:32Speaker 2: what's crazier, Jessy, is that it too yusy and we're working,
- 2:37Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, in the hard yard. I know it's
- 2:41Speaker 2: usually I think we should be getting day and a half.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Maybe that's tomorrow. I don't really know. Definitely not through
- 2:45Speaker 2: the power of pre recording. No, that's so true, because
- 2:49Speaker 2: it's not usy we are currently. I don't want to
- 2:52Speaker 2: know where we are right now. So luckily we pre
- 2:55Speaker 2: recorded this because we would I would say we're probably
- 2:57Speaker 2: not legible. Is that the right word in the wrong font. Yes,
- 3:05Speaker 2: I said the wrong word twice, But I hope that
- 3:06Speaker 2: everyone understands.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Well.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Happy New Year for all of those listening. Happy almost.
- 3:12Speaker 2: I feel like it's been such a crazy one.
- 3:14Speaker 3: I feel exactly how you sound, hung like, just like
- 3:17Speaker 3: my brain is scrambled and mounting out of my ears
- 3:19Speaker 3: a little bit.
- 3:20Speaker 2: So totally.
- 3:21Speaker 3: We thought it would be the perfect opportunity to do
- 3:23Speaker 3: a fun, lighthearted episode, not too heavy for anybody. And
- 3:28Speaker 3: I feel like the last Unhinged Hacks was so popular,
- 3:32Speaker 3: oh my god.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Which I totally get because some of these like it's
- 3:35Speaker 2: a lot easier to follow than doing a whole financial degree.
- 3:40Speaker 2: You know, it's like, hey, just but I don't know,
- 3:43Speaker 2: run over your own foot and you won't be able
- 3:45Speaker 2: to walk to the shop anymore. I love those kind
- 3:47Speaker 2: of things and they really do work. So stay tuned
- 3:52Speaker 2: more great tips like that. Okay, So, Jess, do you
- 3:56Speaker 2: feel ready to start? I feel ready to start. I'm excited. Okay, great,
- 3:59Speaker 2: because fully start. I want to know. Do you have
- 4:01Speaker 2: any unhinged hacks of your own? Oh, be honest, not
- 4:04Speaker 2: to sound like a stick in a mud, but a
- 4:06Speaker 2: stick in the mud.
- 4:07Speaker 3: I'm not a huge unhinged person, but I do have
- 4:10Speaker 3: one that I loved from the last episode, which was
- 4:14Speaker 3: where somebody said that every time they feel like shopping,
- 4:17Speaker 3: they turn their phone to grayscale.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Yeah, that's so clever. It was like you who said that.
- 4:22Speaker 2: I might have relayed it, but it was not my idea.
- 4:25Speaker 2: I think it's genius.
- 4:27Speaker 3: I think that's very clever because so it was making
- 4:29Speaker 3: me think a lot of my friends have kids. I
- 4:31Speaker 3: have nieces and nephews, And there's a lot of discussion
- 4:33Speaker 3: about how like modern day everything TV, but this definitely
- 4:37Speaker 3: flows into like advertising, social media, et cetera. Is so overstimulating,
- 4:42Speaker 3: and so it's like you turn the grayscale on and
- 4:43Speaker 3: all of a sudden, it's like you flip that switch
- 4:45Speaker 3: that gets your brain firing.
- 4:48Speaker 2: So I feel like you don't get that joy anymore. Yes,
- 4:50Speaker 2: I completely agree, And it also feels like a bit
- 4:53Speaker 2: old and timey. I was just gonna say, what is
- 4:55Speaker 2: this the fifteen hundred? Yeah, seriously, I'm like, I don't
- 4:57Speaker 2: want to iPhone seventeen from the fifteen h Thank you.
- 5:01Speaker 2: I was a big fan of that one. Yeah, I
- 5:03Speaker 2: really that's such a good idea. What's on your list
- 5:06Speaker 2: for me? This one comes from one of our community members.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Rachel says, I freeze spending for May and November. That's crazy.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I free spending for May and November. It's a game
- 5:16Speaker 2: within my family so we can be more money free
- 5:18Speaker 2: in the other ten months. That is pretty cause it
- 5:22Speaker 2: seems to random seven months. I think for May and November.
- 5:27Speaker 3: It's between May and November, and I was like, wow,
- 5:29Speaker 3: that's a long time, just two three big months.
- 5:31Speaker 2: That makes a lot more sense. Yeah, and I'm like,
- 5:33Speaker 2: I wonder where why wrote those random months? But the
- 5:36Speaker 2: intent is to limit as much spend as possible, so
- 5:38Speaker 2: we try to use pantry items as much as possible.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Oh wow, that includes like food, and I think it's
- 5:43Speaker 2: great walking public transport, et cetera rather than cars. It's
- 5:47Speaker 2: a bit of a fun challenge and interesting to see
- 5:49Speaker 2: how the conversations generate enthusiasm at the dinner table. We
- 5:53Speaker 2: have chosen May. Okay, this is what I wanted to know.
- 5:55Speaker 2: We have chosen May is the media holiday challenge in
- 5:58Speaker 2: June and November to help prep for December madness. Both
- 6:02Speaker 2: removing the adrenaline adaptations many of our savings mean that
- 6:06Speaker 2: our holidays are a bit more focused on memories as
- 6:08Speaker 2: we can spend a bit more. Okay, please, that makes
- 6:12Speaker 2: so much sense.
- 6:12Speaker 3: I love the idea of making it a gain that
- 6:14Speaker 3: everyone's participating, because sometimes it's sad when you're doing a
- 6:18Speaker 3: no bye by yourself and everyone's like, oh, want to
- 6:20Speaker 3: go out to dinner and you'll be like no, I
- 6:21Speaker 3: want to know, I know, I know. Maybe that's something
- 6:23Speaker 3: we can do for next year. We can make a
- 6:25Speaker 3: challenge for the community. I feel like that would be
- 6:27Speaker 3: really fun.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Oh my god, that would be so fun, and it
- 6:29Speaker 2: would be like you come together. It's like going on
- 6:31Speaker 2: a little solo adventure and then coming together and talking
- 6:33Speaker 2: about how it's going. It's like that is so fun.
- 6:35Speaker 2: That really does generate some conversations. Well, I went away
- 6:37Speaker 2: for twenty twenty six. Yes, absolutely. Do you have any
- 6:41Speaker 2: unhinsacks you'd like to share?
- 6:42Speaker 3: Yeah, we pulled some really good ones from the community.
- 6:44Speaker 3: So my one that I've got here is from Luke
- 6:47Speaker 3: who said we used to do a thing when saving
- 6:48Speaker 3: for our house deposit.
- 6:49Speaker 2: We called it could have but didn't. Okay.
- 6:52Speaker 3: We would be like, hey, want to go to the
- 6:54Speaker 3: movies tonight? Sure, or we could do could have but didn't,
- 6:59Speaker 3: So we'd go rent and make popcorn at home and
- 7:01Speaker 3: even grab a bottle of wine, and then transfer the
- 7:03Speaker 3: difference between what we could have done, in this case
- 7:06Speaker 3: going to the movies and what we actually did. Sometimes
- 7:09Speaker 3: we'd even just mention doing an extravagant thing for fund
- 7:11Speaker 3: so we could transfer more money to savings. We also
- 7:14Speaker 3: put a block on our savings account so that money
- 7:16Speaker 3: could go in, but we couldn't transfer it back out
- 7:19Speaker 3: until we were ready. I love a catchphrase. Have a
- 7:23Speaker 3: catch phrase, Yes, and that's gonna stick.
- 7:25Speaker 2: That is gonna stick. You say I'm not going to
- 7:28Speaker 2: do X y Z. You need a catchphrase. Otherwise, sometimes
- 7:31Speaker 2: it's just like it's also easy to remember. Yeah that's clever.
- 7:34Speaker 2: I really really like that. And another way to make
- 7:36Speaker 2: it fun, make it enjoy it. You're going to make
- 7:38Speaker 2: it a game. Otherwise it's like where's the color? You know?
- 7:42Speaker 3: I love it?
- 7:43Speaker 2: So the next one comes from Cam, who says, get
- 7:45Speaker 2: yourself a partner who's equally, if not more stingy than
- 7:48Speaker 2: you are when it comes to money. My partner is
- 7:50Speaker 2: proud to say he will wear his cheap came up
- 7:52Speaker 2: undies regardless of holes and ribs. I'm exactly the same
- 7:56Speaker 2: and loves to shop. It really rubs off on you
- 7:58Speaker 2: and you end up finding cost effective way to enjoy
- 8:00Speaker 2: your time together. Example walks, camping, trips, et cetera, which
- 8:04Speaker 2: has literally saved us enough money that we could technically
- 8:07Speaker 2: not work for three years and still pay our bills
- 8:10Speaker 2: and mortgage comfortably. What how much some much money is you?
- 8:15Speaker 2: It's hundreds of thousands of dollars?
- 8:16Speaker 3: Would that's very impressive. I don't know if I'm pro
- 8:19Speaker 3: holes in the undies. I don't like a light breeze,
- 8:21Speaker 3: but you know, I think that if you're you and
- 8:25Speaker 3: your partner have to be on the same package. Because again,
- 8:27Speaker 3: like back, I think there's nothing worse than you being like, oh,
- 8:28Speaker 3: I want to save money, I want to do this thing,
- 8:30Speaker 3: and your partner being like.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Let's go out, let's blow the bucheto do whatever you want. Yes,
- 8:35Speaker 2: that sounds exactly like me and everyone I've ever met.
- 8:40Speaker 3: There are a lot of people on the thread that
- 8:42Speaker 3: we put in the Facebook group too. Not in the
- 8:43Speaker 3: Facebook group. Definitely go join it because that's where we
- 8:45Speaker 3: pull all these fun things from. But there are a
- 8:47Speaker 3: lot of people making jokes about, you know, not leaving
- 8:49Speaker 3: the house to not spend money. But Charlotte actually took
- 8:52Speaker 3: it a step further and she does a fake lockdown.
- 8:56Speaker 3: She said, when we're in a tight spot, I pretend
- 8:58Speaker 3: I'm on lockdown.
- 8:59Speaker 2: I e.
- 8:59Speaker 3: We can't go anywhere or do anything other than work.
- 9:02Speaker 3: I just stay home, clean my house, walk around the
- 9:04Speaker 3: neighborhood for an hour and that's it.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Oh that's so clever.
- 9:08Speaker 3: I fear that that may bring up trauma responses from
- 9:10Speaker 3: some Victorians, cause, yeah, take us back into a different lockdown.
- 9:14Speaker 2: But that's true. The joke about leaving.
- 9:18Speaker 3: The house and spending two hundred dollars by the time
- 9:20Speaker 3: you blink is not a joke, No, I fear.
- 9:22Speaker 2: I totally agree something about being left to your own devices.
- 9:27Speaker 3: I don't know what it is, Like, I'm quite good
- 9:28Speaker 3: with money, but there's something it's so temging. I honestly,
- 9:32Speaker 3: the thought has crossed my mind before, Oh should I
- 9:35Speaker 3: go to the like should I just go for a
- 9:37Speaker 3: wander around or goat groceries? No, I'm going to stay
- 9:39Speaker 3: home so that I don't spend money.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Yes, And I think even when you're going to buy
- 9:45Speaker 2: groceries and you do an online wiolword's order and then
- 9:48Speaker 2: you can like you see the total before you get
- 9:51Speaker 2: to check out, because once you're here to check out. Sorry,
- 9:53Speaker 2: but it's just way too awkward to be like, I've
- 9:55Speaker 2: got to I can't spend this much money. Yeah, so
- 9:57Speaker 2: you're like, you're buying it online, you're looking at it,
- 9:59Speaker 2: you're in the comfort of your homes, not awkward, and
- 10:02Speaker 2: then you just take things out of your car because
- 10:04Speaker 2: you're like, oh, actually I don't need that. And then
- 10:05Speaker 2: you're also not tempted by impulse purchases bass bars. I
- 10:09Speaker 2: don't know what it is with me lately, but I
- 10:11Speaker 2: have a kick catchunk of your day, and on leave
- 10:14Speaker 2: the house. I probably won't be doing that, so everything
- 10:16Speaker 2: adds up. Everything adds up. I think this is great.
- 10:18Speaker 2: I do need to do a fake lockdown on myself.
- 10:21Speaker 2: So this next one comes from Tory, who says I'm
- 10:24Speaker 2: not and don't want to be a trad wife good,
- 10:27Speaker 2: but I follow tradwife don't send type content on social
- 10:29Speaker 2: media so I can learn all their hacks. That's actually
- 10:32Speaker 2: pretty clever. I'm not out there farming and being completely
- 10:35Speaker 2: self sufficient, but I know how to make almost everything
- 10:37Speaker 2: from scratch, and it's so ridiculously cheap and not as
- 10:41Speaker 2: time consuming as I thought it would be. And I've
- 10:43Speaker 2: learned how to have almost zero waste because almost everything
- 10:46Speaker 2: can be turned into something useful. That is so cool.
- 10:49Speaker 3: I'm always impressed when one of those tradwif videos comes
- 10:52Speaker 3: up on my Yeah, like, you know, I'm making my
- 10:55Speaker 3: own butter or I'm doing whatever I aspire to be
- 10:59Speaker 3: that person.
- 11:00Speaker 2: I don't know there, Yes, but she's right.
- 11:03Speaker 3: You can totally make almost anything, really totally quality, much
- 11:09Speaker 3: healthier for you a lot of the time for anything
- 11:11Speaker 3: that SPoD related. A lot of cleaning products too, like
- 11:13Speaker 3: I see a lot of people dry cleaning stuff totally.
- 11:16Speaker 2: And it is really really cheap. It's also great for
- 11:19Speaker 2: the environments, as Tory says, like you know, having that
- 11:21Speaker 2: no waste kind of approach as well. We got a
- 11:24Speaker 2: lot to learn from tradwives, and not just the an
- 11:28Speaker 2: inequal mental and physical and emotional labor. But I think
- 11:33Speaker 2: we I do want to get into like butter churning.
- 11:36Speaker 2: You know, I could see you change. Oh my god,
- 11:41Speaker 2: I can see that for myself too. I just I
- 11:43Speaker 2: think you do need one of those dress dresses.
- 11:45Speaker 3: And say, oh you can fight against the stereotype and
- 11:47Speaker 3: do it in your sweats.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Oh my god. True, I could do it in the
- 11:50Speaker 2: most like masculine dikey outfit I can find and churning
- 11:54Speaker 2: but eye. And then I think it's no longer trad wife.
- 11:59Speaker 2: It's like it's like first trap, it has given, trading,
- 12:02Speaker 2: It's it's given. Oh my god, Okay, let me get
- 12:06Speaker 2: into this. Thank you, Tory.
- 12:07Speaker 3: The next I've got one from Chloe who said, if
- 12:09Speaker 3: I want something or if I have something extra come
- 12:12Speaker 3: up and I need to use additional money instead of
- 12:14Speaker 3: using anything from my savings, I do a door dash
- 12:17Speaker 3: and make myself work for the extra money. So it
- 12:20Speaker 3: feels like I didn't actually spend the money on it
- 12:22Speaker 3: because girl math. But it keeps my savings building without
- 12:25Speaker 3: touching it.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, I love this idea.
- 12:29Speaker 3: I'm all for this idea because I think I've said
- 12:32Speaker 3: before my finance hot take is you are not entitled
- 12:35Speaker 3: to anything outside of your needs. You don't have to
- 12:38Speaker 3: have a new outfit or a new book or like
- 12:42Speaker 3: you You're not entitled to it. If you want it
- 12:45Speaker 3: that it's so fine, and you budget in. But if
- 12:47Speaker 3: it's not in your budget and you still want it,
- 12:50Speaker 3: work for it. Pick up a little extra DoorDash or
- 12:53Speaker 3: uber eats, drive get the cash, and then you can
- 12:55Speaker 3: have it.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Like, that's so fine. You're allowed to work hard for things.
- 12:58Speaker 2: I agree. I think I think we because I know
- 13:01Speaker 2: that that's your take on that thing. To disagree though,
- 13:04Speaker 2: but I it's only because I cannot say no to myself,
- 13:08Speaker 2: and so I'm like, I if I want something and
- 13:12Speaker 2: I don't want to, we'll be getting it, and I'll
- 13:14Speaker 2: be getting it. I'm gonna work hard for rent and
- 13:19Speaker 2: I'm gonna work hard for utilities, but I'm gonna not
- 13:22Speaker 2: work hard. For luxuries, and that doesn't work for all.
- 13:25Speaker 2: In fact, probably most people that doesn't work for But anyway, Okay,
- 13:29Speaker 2: I think we should take a really quick break. What
- 13:30Speaker 2: do you reckon? I think so too. There's more unhindtaxles.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Go have a dig for them. Yeah, and we'll come
- 13:35Speaker 2: back right on the other side of this. Okay, guys,
- 13:40Speaker 2: we are back and we're about to unleash even more
- 13:42Speaker 2: chaotic saving tips. Jess, what do you have next?
- 13:44Speaker 3: This one's from Shari, who said my unhinged strategy is
- 13:48Speaker 3: I literally learned Python coding so I could turn a
- 13:52Speaker 3: notion page into the ultimate savings tracker with achievements, et cetera.
- 13:56Speaker 3: So it felt like my bank account was a video game.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Clever.
- 14:00Speaker 3: I mean to be honest, I don't know half the
- 14:01Speaker 3: words that I just said. No, suddenly sounds very impressive.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Is she gamified her savings?
- 14:10Speaker 2: Very fad? So, Shari, if you're listening, can you send
- 14:14Speaker 2: us this because the public thing that we can share? Yeah,
- 14:17Speaker 2: is this something we can use? I feel like I
- 14:19Speaker 2: want to. I want to do this anything in the world.
- 14:22Speaker 2: If you turn into a video game, I feel like
- 14:24Speaker 2: it could be really really fun. What a great idea, Shari,
- 14:27Speaker 2: I think you're sitting on like a million dollar idea.
- 14:29Speaker 2: By the way, this sounds great. Yeah, anything coding. I'm like,
- 14:32Speaker 2: I don't understand, but I really really respect it. So
- 14:36Speaker 2: this exon one comes from Lucy who says, oh, this
- 14:39Speaker 2: this actually does rings some bells you've told before scripts
- 14:44Speaker 2: and toilet rolls. It can't be easily rolled and therefore
- 14:48Speaker 2: less easy to use because you are like, you know,
- 14:51Speaker 2: you're trying to pull the things. Sometimes you just do
- 14:53Speaker 2: a little pull and like this thing is a roll
- 14:56Speaker 2: and roll and rolling. You're getting so much toilet roll,
- 14:59Speaker 2: but if you squeeze, then it's like you got to
- 15:01Speaker 2: really put in the work and maybe you're only getting
- 15:03Speaker 2: four squares out of it.
- 15:04Speaker 3: You know, it's something you're not conscious of, because I'd
- 15:07Speaker 3: never given it a second thought until whenever it was
- 15:09Speaker 3: that you gave this as a broke tip.
- 15:11Speaker 2: I reckon.
- 15:12Speaker 3: It's over a year ago, maybe two years ago now, yeah,
- 15:15Speaker 3: and ever since then, I'm so aware of it. And
- 15:16Speaker 3: I was like, wow, I really was like plowing through
- 15:19Speaker 3: it before I was aware, and now I'm like conscious,
- 15:23Speaker 3: I don't always squeeze the role because it looks ugly
- 15:25Speaker 3: but I just like, it's always in the back of
- 15:26Speaker 3: my mind. I always think about it. How many squares
- 15:29Speaker 3: are I pulling out? Whatever, It's such a good idea.
- 15:32Speaker 3: Thank you, Lucy, You've really changed our lives. Next, I've
- 15:36Speaker 3: got a hack from Laura, who said, my partner and
- 15:38Speaker 3: I will settle debates with a dart board. We both
- 15:41Speaker 3: transfer to savings the amount of points we land on,
- 15:44Speaker 3: and whoever is the highest wins the debate and the
- 15:47Speaker 3: long term benefits of saving more. Oh god, I would
- 15:50Speaker 3: be making no money because me and a dartboard are
- 15:52Speaker 3: not friends.
- 15:53Speaker 2: No, absolutely, And what if you're like the debate. Here's
- 15:57Speaker 2: the thing about the debate. I'm like, what if one
- 15:59Speaker 2: of you is absolutely in the wrong objectively And I
- 16:02Speaker 2: know there's no objective truth, but what if you want
- 16:04Speaker 2: to do is absolutely the wrong one? And then you
- 16:07Speaker 2: just get the highest score on the dark board and
- 16:08Speaker 2: you're like, well, I win, and that means that. So
- 16:11Speaker 2: I'm trying to think of something factual, fact flat. Yeah
- 16:15Speaker 2: it is flat, and that's true. We have to believe
- 16:17Speaker 2: that now, Sorry, but I respect it. I think that's great.
- 16:21Speaker 2: And yes, I guess the biggest win of them all
- 16:24Speaker 2: is how much money we save at the end of
- 16:27Speaker 2: the day.
- 16:28Speaker 3: And maybe it's a way to avoid an argument too. Yeah,
- 16:31Speaker 3: when you both get real stuck in and you're like, well,
- 16:33Speaker 3: I'm right, but I'm right. I know sometimes you just
- 16:35Speaker 3: need a way to referee it out.
- 16:37Speaker 2: God, I think that would make it worse me I
- 16:40Speaker 2: but anyway, I see it works for you. Fantastic. Okay.
- 16:43Speaker 2: The next one comes from Rubina. I pretend I'm my
- 16:46Speaker 2: great grandma during the Great Depression and find a way
- 16:49Speaker 2: to fix, reuse, or go without my great Depression. Name
- 16:52Speaker 2: is Mary Beautiful.
- 16:55Speaker 3: This is what we mean when we say onion tap. Yeah,
- 16:58Speaker 3: I mean it's out here doing a full outfits, Like, how.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Does this go to? Really the lengths we go to
- 17:09Speaker 2: to save save a buck?
- 17:10Speaker 3: You know?
- 17:11Speaker 1: But I do.
- 17:12Speaker 2: I completely am on board with making it a game
- 17:16Speaker 2: and making it a role play, a cosplay of some kind.
- 17:19Speaker 2: I love a role play. I love it. You gotta
- 17:21Speaker 2: find a way to make it fun.
- 17:22Speaker 3: I really do, well, Mary, I really do hope we
- 17:26Speaker 3: meet you one day. Send us a photo, let us know.
- 17:28Speaker 3: If there's an outfit, I've got to see it.
- 17:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Actually I've got one from Rick and.
- 17:32Speaker 3: He really is treading into unhinged, morally questionable waters. Okay,
- 17:37Speaker 3: but I'm just repeating what it was said. He says,
- 17:40Speaker 3: if something breaks or stops working, I buy an identical
- 17:44Speaker 3: one and use that receipt to return the broken one.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Fair enough, And unless it's like a small business, like
- 17:50Speaker 2: if family run business, I'm on board. I'm on board.
- 17:54Speaker 2: If it's KMA or something, go for it. I think
- 17:56Speaker 2: it's so clever.
- 17:58Speaker 3: And reminder, if you're seeing breaks in like less twelve months,
- 18:00Speaker 3: that's covered by consumer warranty, less than two years even.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Yeah, totally. God, it's annoying though, isn't as long as
- 18:06Speaker 2: you need to take the whole thing in you don't
- 18:08Speaker 2: have the box anymore. But Rick, I'm right, I think
- 18:12Speaker 2: just taking notes. I'm taking this one. I'm gonna take it.
- 18:15Speaker 2: I'm gonna use it. Rick, if you're listening, can you
- 18:17Speaker 2: let us know if it's ever like backfight on you,
- 18:18Speaker 2: if they've ever been like, hey, this doesn't look like
- 18:21Speaker 2: you just bought it, you know what I mean? Maybe
- 18:24Speaker 2: he isn't listening because he's arrested sending this in from jail.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Maybe I'll see you in there actually, because I'm going
- 18:33Speaker 2: to start doing this This section one comes from Georgie,
- 18:37Speaker 2: who says, I structure my money with a small amount
- 18:39Speaker 2: of my transaction account money for living in a linked
- 18:42Speaker 2: savings account attached, and all actual savings in a different bank.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Sometimes I sneak attack myself and just take all of
- 18:50Speaker 2: the money from the money for Living account, transfer it
- 18:54Speaker 2: to the different bank, and just make it work for
- 18:56Speaker 2: a week. Okay, I get that. I I kind of
- 19:00Speaker 2: like that. So this is what I'm thinking because I
- 19:03Speaker 2: explained it to me, because my brain's struggling to follow.
- 19:05Speaker 2: So what I'm gathering from this, because I'm exactly the same,
- 19:08Speaker 2: is that I have in real life. I have a
- 19:10Speaker 2: savings account that I put money into. Often I lock
- 19:13Speaker 2: it and it's the thing goes to my friend. Every
- 19:17Speaker 2: three days, I'll have to unlock it and say hello,
- 19:20Speaker 2: make sweet angel me again and just unlock it for me,
- 19:23Speaker 2: and four dollars in there, so it's in my savings
- 19:25Speaker 2: and then my actual spending. And then and then I
- 19:29Speaker 2: assume what's happening here is that like that savings account
- 19:32Speaker 2: is not the real savings account. It is like the
- 19:34Speaker 2: fake one. To trick herself into thinking like I've got
- 19:38Speaker 2: to dip into my savings switch exactly and then but
- 19:41Speaker 2: there's actual savings in a completely different bank that she
- 19:46Speaker 2: can't touch, can't access, and so sometimes she puts all
- 19:49Speaker 2: that money in there and she's like, well, I don't
- 19:51Speaker 2: have any money for the week because that money doesn't
- 19:54Speaker 2: exist outside of mind. That's the vibe I get, Georgie.
- 19:57Speaker 2: If you're listening and you're like, that is not at
- 19:59Speaker 2: all what I meant, then let us know, because the
- 20:02Speaker 2: version that I took is great. But maybe it's like,
- 20:06Speaker 2: can you trick yourself? Does that? Like, is that a thing?
- 20:10Speaker 2: I have tried it? Yeah, I have three different man
- 20:12Speaker 2: accounts now from trying to trick myself and putting money
- 20:14Speaker 2: in a differ account. It has not worked for me.
- 20:15Speaker 2: It's f yeah, because I always access it. But I
- 20:18Speaker 2: think if it's so far removed that you don't actually
- 20:22Speaker 2: know how to get in there, you know, sometimes you
- 20:26Speaker 2: just got to demystify something once you like, you know,
- 20:28Speaker 2: I own how to access this account, I own know
- 20:30Speaker 2: how to withdraw money from that account. Once it's demystified
- 20:32Speaker 2: and you've figured out how to do it, there is
- 20:35Speaker 2: nothing stopping you ever again from accessing that money. So
- 20:39Speaker 2: it's it's it's just trying to get it so far
- 20:41Speaker 2: away from you that you've got to find a sweet
- 20:43Speaker 2: spot for your brain. And yeah, yeah, I think so
- 20:46Speaker 2: that makes sense.
- 20:47Speaker 3: I've got to have from Katie, and I will say
- 20:49Speaker 3: I've got thoughts almost familiar side. Okay, She says, if
- 20:51Speaker 3: you add something to your basket in deep Up and
- 20:53Speaker 3: you don't buy it, usually the person selling it will
- 20:56Speaker 3: send you an offer, which to me says they are
- 20:58Speaker 3: having trouble selling it. So I always counter with a
- 21:00Speaker 3: lower price, and I've never not been accepted. Okay, I
- 21:05Speaker 3: will say yes to the first part, Like as someone
- 21:07Speaker 3: who sells a lot of stuff on deepop, if someone
- 21:10Speaker 3: has something in their cart, if it's if I've only
- 21:13Speaker 3: just put it up, I won't discount it, like it'll
- 21:15Speaker 3: usually only be for things that I've had listed for
- 21:18Speaker 3: a couple of months or whatever. But if someone adds
- 21:20Speaker 3: it to their cart, I will usually send them a
- 21:21Speaker 3: little discount and be like, buy it today and it's yours.
- 21:24Speaker 2: But the reverse is true, where if they then lowball.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Me even further, sometimes it pisss me off enough that
- 21:30Speaker 3: I'm like, actually, offer revoked.
- 21:32Speaker 2: You can pay.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Yeah, depending on how much, Because this is the thing
- 21:38Speaker 3: I have to say with deepop is sometimes.
- 21:40Speaker 2: People will be absurd.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Like I know we're all for don't ask, don't get,
- 21:44Speaker 3: and I'll never fault somebody for asking for a discount,
- 21:46Speaker 3: but like, if I've listed an item for fifty dollars
- 21:50Speaker 3: and you're going to offer me ten.
- 21:53Speaker 2: You're in my bad books. I'm sorry you are. You've
- 21:57Speaker 2: done it, You've really done it this time. I will
- 21:58Speaker 2: actually never accept it off few. No, I'm just kidding,
- 22:01Speaker 2: you know, like.
- 22:03Speaker 3: Side whereas Yeah, so I mean you know what, don't ask,
- 22:07Speaker 3: don't get.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the first half of that very true.
- 22:10Speaker 3: Like if someone's had a hard time selling something and
- 22:12Speaker 3: you put it in your cart, you're gonna get an offer.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a fair fair play. Second one, i'd say,
- 22:17Speaker 2: do it your own risk. Yeah, okay, but that's just
- 22:21Speaker 2: my personal tape totally. I also think someone might be
- 22:25Speaker 2: struggling for money. I don't want to load balls them more.
- 22:27Speaker 2: But also if they take it, well, then that's a
- 22:30Speaker 2: win for you.
- 22:31Speaker 4: Great.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Thank you, Katie. I'm sorry that your has caused such
- 22:36Speaker 2: a debate, but I am on both sides. Yeah, you know,
- 22:39Speaker 2: I'm on both sides of the coin. But yeah, that's fantastic. Okay.
- 22:44Speaker 2: The next one comes from Angela, who says, I asked
- 22:47Speaker 2: for fifty pounds lbs. I've always wondered why does that
- 22:51Speaker 2: mean pounds? You know, how could it possibly ivegn never
- 22:54Speaker 2: get any thought, but that's a great question. Yeah, where
- 22:56Speaker 2: there's no lb or s in pounds. Oh yes, But anyway,
- 23:02Speaker 2: someone out there's going to know.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Let us put it in the Spotify comments, please, because
- 23:05Speaker 3: it's going to keep me up at night.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Please let us know. So I asked for fifty pounds
- 23:09Speaker 2: of flour for Christmas. I didn't That is quite a
- 23:12Speaker 2: lot of flower I didn't have to buy a flour
- 23:14Speaker 2: for nine months, baked every other day, vacuum sealed it
- 23:18Speaker 2: in four pound bags so it keeps fresh. This year,
- 23:21Speaker 2: I'm asking for fifty pounds of flour and twenty five
- 23:23Speaker 2: pounds of sugar. Get an angler. I make my own
- 23:27Speaker 2: brown sugar and it never gets hard like store board,
- 23:30Speaker 2: which is it's a very practical gift, very very practical.
- 23:34Speaker 2: There's so she's so funny that this year she's like,
- 23:36Speaker 2: I'm trying fifty pounds of flour and also twenty five
- 23:39Speaker 2: pounds of sugar because clever.
- 23:42Speaker 3: If I don't know what she's baking, I know a
- 23:44Speaker 3: lot of flour it is.
- 23:45Speaker 2: You can do a lot of bread. Yeah, that's true. Bread. Yeah,
- 23:48Speaker 2: but I wonder with the sugar. What are you going
- 23:50Speaker 2: to do with the sugar? I really want? Surely? Yeah,
- 23:53Speaker 2: so you got to make some sweet treats. And the
- 23:56Speaker 2: next year maybe you should ask for butter. Fifty pounds
- 23:59Speaker 2: of butter. I don't think you can really get anything
- 24:01Speaker 2: done with that butter. But I'm loving this. That is
- 24:04Speaker 2: so clever. All for a practical gift, absolutely totally. And
- 24:07Speaker 2: also it's a hack for both because if someone asked
- 24:09Speaker 2: me for fifty pounds a flower, and I know I've
- 24:11Speaker 2: got him like a couple of kilos, it's still a
- 24:14Speaker 2: big win for me because it's only a few dollars.
- 24:16Speaker 2: That's true. Actually it's great affordable.
- 24:18Speaker 3: I've got one from Rachel who said she taught her
- 24:21Speaker 3: blue collar husband how to bleach and tone and install
- 24:24Speaker 3: her twenty four inch taping extensions, which saves her thousands.
- 24:28Speaker 2: WHOA, I thought this?
- 24:31Speaker 3: You know that this is the epitome to me of
- 24:32Speaker 3: if he wanted to, he would. There's a woman on TikTok.
- 24:35Speaker 3: I saw she made a video that her husband did
- 24:38Speaker 3: a spray tanding course.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Oh my god, they bought like a bought like online
- 24:42Speaker 2: a kit.
- 24:42Speaker 3: He got the tenth, the sprayer, the whole thing and
- 24:45Speaker 3: does her like weekly spraytnds for her. Oh, because he
- 24:48Speaker 3: saw that it was so annoying for her to have
- 24:50Speaker 3: to go every week and pay all this money and whatever,
- 24:52Speaker 3: and it wasn't always good.
- 24:53Speaker 2: So he's like, oh bet I can do that better.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Yes, pop off king, I think so good with the
- 24:59Speaker 3: husband's boy, These girlfriends put him to work.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Absolutely, I completely agree. Yeah, I want more.
- 25:04Speaker 3: Actually, if you've taught your partner something, I want to comment.
- 25:08Speaker 3: I want to know maybe we can make it a
- 25:09Speaker 3: thread is such as for pictures, what are they doing?
- 25:13Speaker 2: Like what pink collar jobs have you given your partner totally?
- 25:16Speaker 2: Or is this someone in the friend group has picked
- 25:18Speaker 2: up something that like, so like they've learned how to
- 25:20Speaker 2: do nails, they've learned how to like and then you're
- 25:22Speaker 2: order saving money. Yeah yeah that's so colemar case. Then
- 25:25Speaker 2: they appreciate the effort.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Firstly, like that husband now understands how annoying it is
- 25:30Speaker 3: to scrub the whole body, to get between the fingers,
- 25:33Speaker 3: to do the powder, the whole thing, the guy who's
- 25:36Speaker 3: doing the bleach and tone. I also can't hear the
- 25:38Speaker 3: words bleach and tone without thinking of tanamojo a bleach
- 25:40Speaker 3: in tone.
- 25:41Speaker 2: I have not a single clue what that is. AH
- 25:44Speaker 2: have to share.
- 25:45Speaker 3: I'm so sorry, maybe perhaps for a very specific our
- 25:49Speaker 3: bleach and tone, our bleach and done anyway view, But
- 25:54Speaker 3: I'm just thinking like that man now appreciates what goes
- 25:57Speaker 3: into the maintenance of those extensions as he should.
- 25:59Speaker 2: That's because now you're going to see a girl on
- 26:01Speaker 2: the street with extensions and be like you are looking
- 26:04Speaker 2: at great, my queen. That's fantastic, And swinger really want
- 26:08Speaker 2: to start doing actually learn how to do all these things.
- 26:11Speaker 2: So this next one comes from Lauren, who says I
- 26:14Speaker 2: read three star reviews, and almost every time I decide
- 26:17Speaker 2: against buying the item I was read the lowest Yes,
- 26:20Speaker 2: me too, turns you off. Yeah, really turns you off.
- 26:22Speaker 2: That's such a great idea. You're right, that is such
- 26:24Speaker 2: a good way to deinfluence yourself. Is the worst of
- 26:28Speaker 2: the worst. You're you know what, probably don't need the
- 26:30Speaker 2: sandwich press. You totally I think it's a really good
- 26:34Speaker 2: place to leave it.
- 26:34Speaker 3: So if you're listening to this episode, you're getting farmer
- 26:36Speaker 3: about all the fun you're missing out on in the
- 26:38Speaker 3: Facebook groups a link in their show notes and join
- 26:40Speaker 3: us there because there's all kinds of fun things going.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Absolutely and share the episode with a friend who might
- 26:44Speaker 2: need some unhinged hacks to help save them money. It's
- 26:47Speaker 2: been so much fun spending news Eve with you, guys.
