Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Let's talk just for a moment about ketosis.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: People talk about this often, the ketogenic diet, when people are trying to torch off body fat.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: And the reason why it seems to be really effective because it causes you to switch fuel systems.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: So if you're currently burning sugar, usually with that type of metabolism, you're not accessing the stored body fat.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: And that's what the body does.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: When you eat too much over a period of time and you don't burn it off as energy, and really, rarely people do because of the content of the food.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: It's so palatable, it's so wonderful, and there's a lot of preservatives, a lot of junk in it that's been genetically modified.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: It's not just meat, eggs, fish, and vegetables and fruits.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: It's a lot of other junk in there.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Usually we do have an overabundance of storage on our bodies.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: That's fat.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: To get to that, you can do a couple different things.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: You can stop eating.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: That's more of a starvation fasting diet, which I'm a big proponent of.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: I love that very much.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: Or you can actually cut out all the carbohydrates from what you're eating.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Now I say all.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: There's going to be small amounts and different things.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Even eggs have a very low amount of carbohydrate.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: I think maybe 0.7 grams per egg, I believe, if I remember that number correctly.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: But that's not the problem.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Again, those five things I talked about, the eggs, the meat, the fish, the vegetables, and fruits, those aren't the problem.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: Now for the fruits, let's just pull back just a little bit.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Typically, people will take fruit and they will not eat the entire fruit.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: They'll peel it, they'll juice it, they'll squeeze the juice out of it, but they'll stick it in some kind of a device to be able to extract things from it.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: That's not the fruit I'm talking about.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: If you eat that, you're gonna really spike your insulin into a number and there's a boatload of sugar in it.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: If you're gonna eat fruit, if you have to go there, you want to make sure you eat the whole thing.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: That's gonna include the fiber in combination with the fructose, and that's gonna slow the absorption and help your body work with it so it doesn't get stored like it would if you were just drinking it as apple juice or orange juice.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Yes, orange juice isn't the best thing for you.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Watch out for that.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: You can do your own research.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: But if you want to get into a ketogenic diet where your body actually starts to access or access the stored body fat, you're gonna have to get rid of those types of foods.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Now, for how long, it just depends.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: You want to see how you feel.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: People talk about the keto flu when they start this thing because typically most people have never even accessed the stored body fat.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: That's why you got the freshman 20 in college, and then it just keeps going.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: So you maybe get a little bit leaner when it comes to wedding time, but then you just start stacking on.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Or if you're like me, you were fat most of your life until your 50s, and then the light bulb went on, and you said, you know what, I'm gonna fix this, and you found those solutions to do so.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: And my solution was through the fasting and then alternating that with ketogenic eating.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: That when you cut those carbohydrates, you might feel a little lethargic, a little slow, especially if you've never done this before, but that's something you can ride out.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: It does lower blood pressure quite a bit.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: So if you're taking blood pressure medication, you're definitely gonna want to talk to your doctor because if you go embarking on a ketogenic diet with taking blood pressure medication, it could be a problem.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: And that's with everything.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Anytime you start a diet or want to change your eating plan, especially when you're cutting out, well, as they say, whole food groups.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: I don't know if we should have been eating pie and sugar and cakes and pasta, but anyway, grains and those sorts of things, if you're gonna be cutting those out, at least go talk to your doctor, see what they think.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Maybe there's certain medications you're taking that aren't going to be great for you or need to be reduced or even withdrawn completely when you're gonna go down this road.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: In addition, that when you do eat a kinogenic diet, when you're cutting out other sugar, your body produces ketones.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Maybe you've heard of this.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Ketone is actually something that the brain can use for fuel besides glucose.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Your body is like a hybrid car.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: You have the ability to burn both sugar and both fat, but not at the same time.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: To be able to access that fat, you have to get rid of the sugar and carbohydrates that are coming in.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: Then your body, after a period of time, it has to go through with a sugar and carbohydrates it has stored in the liver and in your blood and wherever.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: Then once it bleeds all that off, then you will officially have entered ketosis.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: You might notice that your breath changes a little bit, you have a funny taste in your mouth, your smells are a little bit different, these sorts of things.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: You also might notice that you're not feeling as energetic and excited all the time.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: But I will tell you, the longer you stay in ketosis, it seems like the more adapted we become.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: And especially if you've never done it, and this is going to be your first time, it's really some kind of an endeavor.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: You will actually feel maybe more sharp, you'll be able to think a little bit faster.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: And they've even shown that people that go into a ketogenic type diet that are battling Alzheimer's and other brain-deteorating diseases, it actually helps because the ketones are great brain food.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: So if you're into that sort of thing and want to check it out, please do so.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: You will notice at the very beginning a very large drop on the scale, typically, depending on how fat or how obese or how big you are.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: But usually that weight loss is water, of course, mostly water.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: You are gonna burn a lot of fat on the ketogenic diet, and you actually burn more fat than you need.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: That's what those ketones are.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: They're extra fat that's being burned, and that's belly fat, mostly submutation, uh sub visceral fat, that's the inside stuff, and the other fat on your body that's gonna be under the skin.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: And it blew my mind, I can't remember what that word is, but again, that's what you're gonna be attacking, and that is super important because that's where you're gonna start to improve your physique and your body.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: Now, the ketosis, subcutaneous fat, the ketosis does fall in line very easily with the fasting.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: Typically, when I go on my longer fast, the five, six-day fast, and some I've done even a 14 at one time when I torched off a lot of weight and actually got my mind right.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: Because my whole thing was the food was my issue, the food was my addiction.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: It was something that I looked at and constantly thought about.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: I would go out with people and we would be around, and it would be a whole endeavor eating.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: That was part of the fun of life.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: I had to pull back from that and completely delete that part because that wasn't helping me at all.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: It was just enabling me to continue down this path of being super obese, over 50% body fat, 65-inch waist, 365 pounds, just wonderful, wonderfully horrible.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: But once I started to do this over time, I noticed that it was much easier to be in a ketogenic type space to do the fasting than it was to be on the sugar burning end of it, like a different kind of hybrid car burning fuel.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: And that's very much like that.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: So the hybrids have fuel and also battery access, right?
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: When you're in the sugar burning zone, you're like a hybrid car burning fuel.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: It's the stuff coming in, you're burning it.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: You're not touching the battery.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: Once the car switches over to the battery component, then you're burning up the energy that the car has saved.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: Well, that's just like your body.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: That's why ketosis works so well.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: Make sure you check with your doctor before you embark in this.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: And I know there's been a lot of books written about it.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: You got Atkins, you got the paleo diet.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: But just stick with those basic things the meat, the eggs, the fish, and the vegetables, some fruits, but be wary of that.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: And just stick with those, and you won't believe the changes that are going to happen very, very quickly because you're going to be tapping into that stored body fat.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Sorry about the mistake earlier.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: I'm not going to edit it.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: I'm there.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: I'm Connor with Honor.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: We'll talk to you soon.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
