- 0:01DrC: Hola friends, what if I told you that you have complete control over avoiding burnout?
- 0:07DrC: Not just surviving, but truly designing a life that feels good to live in.
- 0:11DrC: It doesn't require a huge overhaul, just a few small intentional steps.
- 0:17DrC: Today we're moving from knowledge to action and designing our personal wellness plan together.
- 0:23DrC: Stay with me.
- 0:25DrC: Welcome to life.
- 0:29DrC: I'm so honored you're here with me today.
- 0:31DrC: In full transparency, I am still a work in progress when it comes to consistently putting myself first, unapologetically.
- 0:39DrC: So this chat is as much a needed reminder for me as it is a call to action for you.
- 0:46DrC: My simple goal today is to help you move from knowing you should invest in yourself to actually taking action.
- 0:52DrC: Action that improves your quality of life.
- 0:55DrC: The best part, you have complete control over this.
- 0:58DrC: Are you ready?
- 1:00DrC: Okay, so let's start with our first pillar.
- 1:02DrC: Learn.
- 1:03DrC: Before we can build our plan, we have to understand what we're up against.
- 1:07DrC: What is burnout really?
- 1:08DrC: Well, in 2019, the World Health Organization officially recognized it, defining it as a syndrome resulting from unmanaged, prolonged stress.
- 1:19DrC: T he key word there is unmanaged.
- 1:21DrC: It's not a personal failing, it's a consequence of our environment and habits.
- 1:26DrC: The main factors are things we all know too well: unreasonable demands, feeling like we lack control, not having enough unplugged time, and lacking the resources we need.
- 1:41DrC: But this isn't just a feeling of being tired.
- 1:44DrC: It has serious physical and psychological consequences.
- 1:47DrC: On the physical side, we're talking about cardiovascular issues, sleep disturbances, and an extreme fatigue that rest just doesn't seem to fix.
- 1:57DrC: And psychologically, it can manifest as anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem.
- 2:03DrC: It can decrease your productivity and ability to solve problems effectively.
- 2:09DrC: So this isn't just in your head, it's your body's check engine light flashing, telling you that the system is overloaded and something needs to change.
- 2:20DrC: So now that we know the stakes, this leads us right into our second pillar: inspire.
- 2:25DrC: How do we find the motivation to take back control?
- 2:29DrC: See, it starts with a simple, powerful idea.
- 2:32DrC: This is your project.
- 2:35DrC: Your wellness is your responsibility, and you have the power to design a plan that works for you.
- 2:42DrC: Think about it this way: have you ever told someone you love that they need to take a break or take better care of themselves?
- 2:49DrC: Of course you have.
- 2:50DrC: We do it because we know that no one can truly serve from an empty vessel.
- 2:55DrC: You can't pour from an empty cup.
- 2:58DrC: You are that vessel.
- 2:59DrC: You are that cup.
- 3:01DrC: To show up as your best self for the people and the causes you care about, you must be at your best.
- 3:08DrC: Or you're just serving fumes.
- 3:10DrC: See, the motivation today is to see your wellness not as another chore, but as the foundation upon which your entire life is built.
- 3:19DrC: So let's get inspired to move from knowing to doing, from knowledge to action.
- 3:27DrC: Okay, we've laid the foundation.
- 3:29DrC: We know what burnout is, and we're inspired to take action.
- 3:32DrC: Before we jump into the practical steps to build your personal wellness plan, I want you to hold on to that feeling of empowerment.
- 3:40DrC: The goal isn't just to avoid burnout, it's to create a life that feels good from the inside out.
- 3:45DrC: When we come back, I'm sharing my five-step framework for designing that life.
- 3:50DrC: Starting with a five-minute habit that can change your entire day.
- 3:54DrC: Don't go away.
- 3:57DrC: Alright, let's flourish.
- 3:59DrC: We're moving from knowledge to action.
- 4:02DrC: Let's discuss a five-step framework for designing your own practical wellness plan.
- 4:08DrC: First, a self-assessment.
- 4:09DrC: Before you build, you need a blueprint.
- 4:12DrC: Get honest with yourself.
- 4:14DrC: What are your biggest stress triggers?
- 4:16DrC: Where are you leaking energy?
- 4:19DrC: This isn't about judgment.
- 4:21DrC: It's about gathering data so that you could build a plan that truly supports you.
- 4:26DrC: Second, your morning investment.
- 4:28DrC: This is about setting your intention for your day, and it only takes five minutes.
- 4:32DrC: We covered this thoroughly in episode four.
- 4:35DrC: So if you need to go back, go back and listen to episode four.
- 4:39DrC: Every morning, just write down the answers to these four questions.
- 4:44DrC: Today I will focus on.
- 4:46DrC: Today I am grateful for.
- 4:48DrC: Today I will let go of, and today I would dedicate five fifteen minutes to.
- 4:54DrC: If you can invest just five of those minutes in optimism, you can take control of the other 995 minutes.
- 5:07DrC: Okay, our third action: managing our yeses.
- 5:10DrC: This is how we manage our stress throughout the day.
- 5:14DrC: To find balance, we have to become the gatekeeper of our time.
- 5:18DrC: Before we say yes, run it through your own personal criteria.
- 5:23DrC: For me, it sounds like this passion.
- 5:26DrC: Am I genuinely excited about this?
- 5:29DrC: Time.
- 5:29DrC: What's the real time cost?
- 5:31DrC: And what has to go?
- 5:33DrC: What am I letting go of in order to now take this on?
- 5:37DrC: Resources.
- 5:38DrC: Do I have the resources to produce high quality work?
- 5:42DrC: And then last, the resentment test.
- 5:45DrC: Will my future self thank me for this or be annoyed with me?
- 5:50DrC: See, sometimes our egos jump in front of our criteria for our yes and automatically says, absolutely, I can do that for you.
- 5:58DrC: And then we go home and go, Oh my goodness, how am I going to do all of this?
- 6:02DrC: How will I fit this in?
- 6:05DrC: All right, moving on to our fourth strategy.
- 6:07DrC: That's your evening investment.
- 6:09DrC: This is how you close your day with positivity.
- 6:12DrC: No matter what happened, before you sleep, take two minutes to reflect on these prompts.
- 6:18DrC: What am I most proud of today?
- 6:20DrC: What inspired me today?
- 6:23DrC: What strengths did I use today?
- 6:25DrC: And what am I grateful for today?
- 6:28DrC: This practice trains your brain to look for the good and to bring you back to a neutral state of happiness right before you go to sleep.
- 6:41DrC: And fifth, your overall wellness commitment.
- 6:45DrC: This is where you identify the bigger, non-negotiable practices that fill your cup.
- 6:50DrC: This is your personal menu of self-care.
- 6:53DrC: It could be prayer, breathing techniques, daily affirmations, exercise, hiking, or quality time with family.
- 7:01DrC: You need to choose a few that resonate with you and schedule them into your week like any other important appointment.
- 7:10DrC: That brings us to our final pillar: evolve.
- 7:13DrC: How do we make this wellness plan a permanent part of who we are?
- 7:17DrC: Evolving means you fully embrace that you cannot give what you don't have.
- 7:22DrC: When we run ourselves into the ground without daily replenishment, we're not just failing ourselves.
- 7:27DrC: We're modeling that behavior for everyone we love, mentor, and lead.
- 7:32DrC: The evolution is the shift from seeing wellness as a reward to understanding it as the prerequisite for a full and healthy life.
- 7:40DrC: It's the moment you stop just liking the idea of being well and start actively, intentionally loving yourself enough to invest in your own growth every single day.
- 7:52DrC: That is how we build a life that's not just successful but sustainable.
- 7:58DrC: That's how we become truly, unapologetically burnout proof.
- 8:05DrC: The biggest takeaway today is that you are in the driver's seat of your own wellness.
- 8:09DrC: You cannot give what you don't have.
- 8:11DrC: You've just spent some time learning and now you have the knowledge.
- 8:15DrC: The question is, are you ready to put that knowledge into action?
- 8:18DrC: Are you ready to truly invest in your well-being?
- 8:21DrC: Not just for a day, but for a lifetime?
- 8:24DrC: If you are, I encourage you to start small.
- 8:28DrC: Pick just one strategy we talked about today and commit to it for a week and see the benefits.
- 8:35DrC: Join this conversation online with the hashtag my wellness plan.
- 8:39DrC: I would love to see what you're committing to.
- 8:41DrC: And if this episode sparks something in you, please share it with a friend who needs to hear it too.
- 8:47DrC: Until next time, keep on learning, stay inspired, continue to flourish, and never stop evolving.
- 8:53DrC: I'm your host, Dr.
- 8:54DrC: C, and this is the Life Podcast.
