Transcript
- 0:00Today's episode is sponsored by my parents, the most avid listeners of this
- 0:05podcast, and also the most intense critics.
- 0:08It might be the best hot dog I've ever had, not even exaggerating.
- 0:13The raving reviews on the new Costco hot dog. Insert theme song here.
- 0:17This is the Daily Starcast. I give you the news and maybe a laugh.
- 0:21I'm Lindsay Vernick, and today is June 24th, 2026.
- 0:25Guys the daily sarcasm is kind of low-key going through like a total rebrand
- 0:29right now and i'm really excited,
- 0:32and also if anyone is a graphic designer or knows a good graphic designer i
- 0:38would like to use one because ai is just like not really doing doing it for
- 0:44me right now and i feel like i just need that human touch.
- 0:48So hit me up if you know somebody in real news okay so jordan Woods is one of
- 0:54the Knicks players' fiancés,
- 0:57and the Guggenheim Museum is putting her lucky Knicks purse on display.
- 1:03This magical orange clutch was carried to every Knicks playoff win and became
- 1:07such a good luck charm that her fiancé, Carl Anthony Towns, suggested that it
- 1:12belonged in a museum, and the Guggenheim literally heard that and said,
- 1:18you know what, actually yeah, it should, let's put it in ours.
- 1:22This bag will be displayed behind glass, like it's an ancient artifact that
- 1:26survived a whole civilization.
- 1:28While it kind of did, it survived a Nyx championship run.
- 1:32The museum is calling it an object that represents a major cultural moment.
- 1:38The only cool thing they can get their hands on after the Nyx won.
- 1:42This bag did attend a lot of very important events. It went to the playoffs,
- 1:48the championship parade.
- 1:50It met our mayor.
- 1:53It met the governor. And now it's going to belong in one of the most famous museums in the world.
- 2:01The Guggenheim is now increasing their tickets by $2 each to help pay for this
- 2:07very exciting new exhibit.
- 2:09Meanwhile, my purse is filled with water from a spill bottle,
- 2:13wrappers, dollar bills, and something sticky.
- 2:16Madonna revealed this week that her biopic starring Julia Garner is officially
- 2:21dead after a budget fight with Universal Studios.
- 2:24According to Madonna, because she's the only side that we have right now,
- 2:28the problem was very simple.
- 2:30She says that she's lived such an extraordinary life that she needed an extraordinary budget.
- 2:36However, the studio disagreed.
- 2:39Madonna said she even suggested filming in Serbia to save money,
- 2:43but the two sides just couldn't make it work and the project eventually fell apart.
- 2:48The movie had already spent years in development and had Julia Gardner lined
- 2:51up to play the queen of pop.
- 2:53Honestly, this is so Madonna. She tried to make a movie about herself,
- 2:57decided the budget wasn't big enough for her own life story, and canceled it.
- 3:02Some celebrities get a low-budget documentary. Madonna requires the finances of a small nation.
- 3:09The good news is that she's still exploring other ways to tell her story,
- 3:12including a possible series.
- 3:14I mean, that makes sense, because if anyone's life needs more than two hours,
- 3:18it's the woman who's somehow been more famous since Dinosaurs.
- 3:22California's $20 minimum wage for fast food workers was supposed to be a huge
- 3:27victory for people. You know, I mean, that's big, right?
- 3:31But because all of these workers are getting paid more, it has led to higher
- 3:36menu prices of a lot fewer job openings and restaurants looking for a lot more
- 3:42ways to automate more tasks.
- 3:44So basically, workers got a raise and customers got more expensive burgers and
- 3:48the self-ordering kiosk just got another promotion.
- 3:52They say higher wages help workers keep up with the cost of living.
- 3:56But then others say businesses simply pass those costs on to consumers.
- 4:01Basically, economists are still arguing about it, which means that nobody has
- 4:06any idea what's going on.
- 4:08The only thing everyone agrees on, though, is that somehow a combo meal now
- 4:12costs the same as a steak dinner.
- 4:15At this point, ordering fries costs $30 no matter what.
- 4:19In Lindsay life, my sister and I drove back to New York City yesterday and I
- 4:23told her that I would drive because I get nauseous when she drives.
- 4:27She then told me that she gets nauseous when I drive.
- 4:31Things I'm thinking about. How
- 4:33I had a dream that I started dating Aaron Carter and no one believed me,
- 4:38and his song I Want Candy came on on the radio and I got really excited and
- 4:42I was like that's the guy I'm dating and nobody believed me and it all just felt way too real.
- 4:47And the night before that I had a dream I was texting Taylor Swift and I didn't
- 4:51really care and that felt really real too.
- 4:54And then last night I had a dream that my ex now good friend took me to prom,
- 5:03and then told me that we couldn't be friends the next day and I was so upset
- 5:07and angry but I'm pretty sure this time that was real.
- 5:11Cooking tip of the day. When you say that you have one it actually has to be
- 5:16a cooking tip or people get really mad.
- 5:18Feedback, comments, questions, a nice Jewish while looking for a date email
- 5:22me at lindsay at thedailystarcast.com.
- 5:25Thanks so much for listening. Talk to you guys tomorrow.
