Latest / The Daily Sarcast / September 28th, 2026: The Not So Crazy Nor'Easter, The VMA's And I Fell Down
Transcript
- 0:00Sponsored by Accurate Weather, the first weather app that actually tells you
- 0:05what the weather is instead of what it might do.
- 0:08Other apps say severe weather alert, dangerous conditions, major nor'easter
- 0:13coming, but Accurate Weather tells you that it's just raining.
- 0:18There's no hurricane graphics for a thunderstorm, no 87% chance of rain when
- 0:24it's not going to rain at all, and no telling you to stay indoors because there's
- 0:28just a little bit of rain too.
- 0:30And definitely not canceling your entire weekend because the forecast might be bad.
- 0:36Accurate weather, because sometimes inaccurate weather is very misleading.
- 0:41We did not bend the knee. We did not bow our head. Iran's president speaking at the UN last week.
- 0:48Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Starcast. I give you the news and made you a laugh.
- 0:53I'm Lindsay Wernick, and today is September 28, 2026.
- 0:57As you can tell, I'm very bitter about this past weekend, this weather.
- 1:02Like, why would you tell us it's going to be so bad and cancel all of these
- 1:06events and all of these things?
- 1:08And then it's like just rains a little bit. It's like a regular rainstorm.
- 1:13Which brings me to our real news. Like, you probably noticed that the reading
- 1:18was slightly more dramatic than necessary.
- 1:20And don't get me wrong. There was this crazy northeastern that hit the northwest.
- 1:25There was a ton of heavy rain, strong winds, really, really bad flooding,
- 1:29and power outages across New York, New Jersey, and other parts of the Northeast.
- 1:34Tens of thousands of people lost power. There have been downed trees and flooding.
- 1:40The Jersey Shore got hit really, really bad. New York City is dealing with more
- 1:45than a thousand reports involving damaged or fallen trees.
- 1:49But like, that was it. Literally, just like a couple of fallen trees.
- 1:54There was no need to cancel the farmer's market, the open mics,
- 1:58like all of the things, just for a little rain. Like, are we going to be able
- 2:02to handle this winter with like actual weather?
- 2:05Five men were arrested yesterday near a military base in southwestern England.
- 2:10That has been used by U.S. forces.
- 2:12The British people say that they're arrested because they think that they had
- 2:16explosive and were going to do some sort of terrorist attack.
- 2:21The police evacuated a nearby village that had about 85 homes because they were
- 2:27nervous about, like, a bomb going off.
- 2:29This is still a very much developing story, and unfortunately,
- 2:32that is all the information that I have.
- 2:36But however, they are clearly not that very good at being terrorists because
- 2:41they got arrested for having suspicious-looking vans.
- 2:44And in AI news, OpenAI is pausing their training of its latest AI models because
- 2:51there are several incidents where the AI was behaving in ways that they were
- 2:55really not supposed to be.
- 2:57So the company said that some of their AIs were searching federal government
- 3:02websites and like went above and beyond what they were supposed to be doing.
- 3:06And one time they found something on the Department of Education website that
- 3:13they, like, really weren't supposed to. But OpenAI was like, don't worry.
- 3:17They said that no non-public information was accessed. Okay,
- 3:22well, then why is it such a big deal then?
- 3:24And then there was this other incident involving Securities and Exchange Commission,
- 3:29and an agent found, like, publicly available information, but then posted it
- 3:33somewhere else, even though that wasn't what the AI was supposed to do.
- 3:39So OpenAI says it's going to resume training when it has additional safeguards
- 3:42in place. I mean, that's reassuring, right?
- 3:46I'm glad that AI is getting its time out when it needs to be.
- 3:50And Lindsay life. I fell down yesterday. I was like dead sober,
- 3:55too. I was like walking in Soho.
- 3:57And yes, I guess the rain was very bad because I tripped and I fell and I like.
- 4:02Just collapsed in the middle of the sidewalk.
- 4:05And I feel like sometimes when I fall down like do you know when you fall down,
- 4:09it feels like you're like watching like a camera like you're watching a show
- 4:12and it's like the camera you know how the camera gets all wobbly and then like
- 4:15falls to the floor I feel like that's what happens when I fall down,
- 4:20but I'm just an alien what do I know.
- 4:23Thing of the week this week are the VMAs. So the VMAs were last night,
- 4:29if you don't know, which is literally just a bunch of musicians just,
- 4:33like, getting together to congratulate each other for making music videos.
- 4:38Taylor Swift is now the most awarded artist in VMA history. I mean,
- 4:42obviously, how is she not?
- 4:45But, like, also, Taylor Swift, she's, like, cool, whatever, but,
- 4:48like, can we, like, talk about somebody else for five minutes?
- 4:51Like this girl doesn't run the fucking world like there are other people there's other musicians,
- 4:57like obviously I'm not a Taylor Swift fan but also just like you can't have
- 5:01like one musician like just rule the world like we need other musicians,
- 5:07it's whatever I'm not going on a whole Taylor Swift rant,
- 5:11I do have to say it is very nice that the VMAs are still happening because that
- 5:14means that music videos are still happening and TikTok hasn't taken over the
- 5:19world do you remember when we used to like watch MTV to play music videos?
- 5:24And now we can just go on our phones and watch a 17 year old explain her skincare
- 5:28routine, a man make pasta on a bathtub, and a music video all within the same 30 seconds.
- 5:35So it's great that we still really do have music videos.
- 5:38Cooking tip of the day. Make sure to clean your air fryer.
