Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to the Sheets on the Money Friday
- 0:12Speaker 1: Drinks episode podcast for millennials who want financial freedom and
- 0:17Speaker 1: to learn a bit about what a seltzer tastes like.
- 0:20Speaker 1: This week on Money Diaries, we spoke to our five
- 0:22Speaker 1: FO wife, who was an absolute legend while also being
- 0:25Speaker 1: pretty incredibly inspiring. Are you guys sprites cracking into the
- 0:31Speaker 1: drinks really early on? That's fine, I'm only doing my
- 0:35Speaker 1: job here. And on Wednesday we had our deep dive
- 0:40Speaker 1: episode where we had a really good chat about shares
- 0:42Speaker 1: the sheer market, which you guys had been asking for.
- 0:45Speaker 1: So this week on Friday Drinks, as always, we're going
- 0:48Speaker 1: to chat money wins and confessions. We're gonna hear something
- 0:51Speaker 1: from Ryan. He won't actually tell me when.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Will it top eight money wins of the week?
- 0:54Speaker 1: Oh okay, well why don't you tell me that? When
- 0:56Speaker 1: I was saying, oh what can I wrap at the
- 0:57Speaker 1: start of the pod.
- 0:58Speaker 3: But also with additional props, question.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Mark, there's props that I've brought in. But also Natasha
- 1:04Speaker 2: has potentially the grossest and most disturbing money win that
- 1:08Speaker 2: you've ever heard, and we don't recommend it, but it's
- 1:11Speaker 2: highly profitable.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Oh ohly profitable.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I'm here for that. And as you could hear the team,
- 1:17Speaker 1: they are cracking open their hard Seltzers, which we purchased
- 1:21Speaker 1: this week after seeing how popular they were on TikTok.
- 1:25Speaker 1: And if you're wondering what a hard seltzer is, to
- 1:28Speaker 1: be quite frank, we aren't sure because the label doesn't
- 1:30Speaker 1: actually give much away except for saying it is an
- 1:33Speaker 1: alcoholic sparkling water. What alcohol it's made with, we don't
- 1:36Speaker 1: know because it's listed as alcohol on the bottom of
- 1:39Speaker 1: the container instead of like vodka or gin or rum.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Is it fair to say that this summer was the
- 1:44Speaker 2: summer of celtzer? I feel like they didn't exist last
- 1:46Speaker 2: summer heard of.
- 1:47Speaker 1: A seltzer s. But as you can hear from the
- 1:50Speaker 1: voices that are already interjecting, this week, we have Ryan John,
- 1:53Speaker 1: Jessica Rici, and Georgia King joining us. Hello, friends, and
- 1:58Speaker 1: I reckon, we just jump right in the first things. First,
- 2:01Speaker 1: are we enjoying our seltzers? You're not bad?
- 2:04Speaker 2: Delicious? The flavor is holy watermelon and mint.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Do we like that?
- 2:10Speaker 3: Like someone left a what were we eating the sour straps?
- 2:15Speaker 3: I feel like someone left, like a sour patch kid
- 2:17Speaker 3: in some water. The residually is kind of just what
- 2:20Speaker 3: we're drinking.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Oh, it is kind of sourur, isn't it.
- 2:24Speaker 3: It's good, but like there's just I feel like there's
- 2:26Speaker 3: not enough. Like I'm not a big sparkling water person.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Oh i am so I'm not minding this. But it
- 2:33Speaker 1: does definitely taste like a watermelon sour patch kid, which
- 2:36Speaker 1: I at the doore. So I'm not mad about this
- 2:38Speaker 1: drink at all. So straight into money Wins in Confessions,
- 2:41Speaker 1: Let's throw this week straight to Georgia King.
- 2:43Speaker 4: Oh, hello, Georgia, how are we all?
- 2:46Speaker 1: I'm so well? How are you?
- 2:48Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 2:48Speaker 1: Very good, feeling much better after being allowed out of
- 2:51Speaker 1: our houses this week.
- 2:52Speaker 4: Yeah, it's post lockdown. We haven't even spoken about that.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Because we were so excited about the celtzs.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Exactly right.
- 2:59Speaker 1: I'm very grateful been a room with my friends.
- 3:01Speaker 4: It is nice.
- 3:02Speaker 3: So distant you guys, friends, we've made it.
- 3:04Speaker 1: We've made it. Getting a bin George King, Money win
- 3:07Speaker 1: or confession? What is it?
- 3:09Speaker 4: Money wins?
- 3:09Speaker 2: Guys?
- 3:10Speaker 1: Yay?
- 3:11Speaker 4: So remember last week I was writing down everything that
- 3:14Speaker 4: I was spending. It was a great success, so I
- 3:18Speaker 4: liked it. I was shopping, not shopping. I was browsing
- 3:21Speaker 4: on the weekend. Picked up a pair of leggings from
- 3:23Speaker 4: Lululemon and I was like, George, if you buy them,
- 3:26Speaker 4: you're gonna have to pop them on the list.
- 3:27Speaker 3: So I put them back.
- 3:28Speaker 1: That would not have deterred me. But yeah, nice.
- 3:31Speaker 2: So it's always more about shaming you out of doing
- 3:33Speaker 2: things much.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Yeah, but it really did.
- 3:35Speaker 4: It kept me accountable, so I'd recommend. But on top
- 3:38Speaker 4: of that, my boyfriend also needed a little trimmy trim,
- 3:42Speaker 4: and I know that has been a theme around this
- 3:44Speaker 4: table as well. We have been cutting our partner's hair
- 3:47Speaker 4: and I gave it a guy.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Have we all now at this table cut our partner's hair.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Yeah, but I said I was terrible at it, so
- 3:52Speaker 1: I'm not sure what it has bired you to actually
- 3:54Speaker 1: give it a crack.
- 3:55Speaker 3: I cried after cutting James as it was why I didn't.
- 3:59Speaker 1: I snaughty love often like I have a meeting on Monday,
- 4:02Speaker 1: and I was like, this.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Is not my problem. So Georgia, how did you go?
- 4:05Speaker 4: I think pretty well, but I mean I'm no expert, but.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Like it looked good just short back insides.
- 4:11Speaker 4: It was so he has quite like long curly hair,
- 4:13Speaker 4: and I just made it shorter, so just like you know,
- 4:16Speaker 4: I went around the little his head.
- 4:18Speaker 3: I guess what I'm trying to say.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Did you put a bowl on his hand?
- 4:22Speaker 4: No bowl, but probably could have used that. It's kind
- 4:24Speaker 4: of where it's at. He actually said to me before,
- 4:26Speaker 4: He's like, do you think I should get it cleaned up?
- 4:28Speaker 4: And I was like, what do you mean cleaned up?
- 4:29Speaker 1: This is professional.
- 4:30Speaker 4: That was kind of insulted.
- 4:31Speaker 2: But I have an idea. Should we, in the spirit
- 4:35Speaker 2: of this being a money win, put a photo in
- 4:37Speaker 2: the Facebook group or a thread and then have everyone
- 4:40Speaker 2: post their own photos of their lockdown haircuts and money
- 4:44Speaker 2: saving my self diy beauty.
- 4:46Speaker 1: I do y my own haircuts, much to my hair dresser,
- 4:50Speaker 1: Christie's dismay.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Do you are you saying this is a home job? Yeah,
- 4:53Speaker 2: this is a home Is that why that sides longer?
- 4:55Speaker 1: Probably? It's also because I used nails instead of so
- 5:02Speaker 1: everyone always says, oh my gosh, Victoria's hair. I'm like,
- 5:05Speaker 1: do not look closely? All right, Jessic gotchi? What have
- 5:10Speaker 1: you got for us this week?
- 5:11Speaker 3: I have a money win as well, and it's a
- 5:13Speaker 3: fun one. Today we went Victoria and I went to
- 5:16Speaker 3: purchase some fridge organization for my fridge thrilling content, and.
- 5:20Speaker 1: It was because it's a money win.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Yeah. Well at the checkout, you know how normally they
- 5:24Speaker 3: sting you at the checkout. They did with the chocolates. However,
- 5:29Speaker 3: there was a bunch of different crunchies and milky ways
- 5:33Speaker 3: and like all these fun things for twenty cents a bar. Yeah.
- 5:36Speaker 1: And I've never seen Jessica's eyes light up as much
- 5:39Speaker 1: and I yeah. And we actually filmed her accepting the
- 5:43Speaker 1: job at Sheets on the money, but she was more
- 5:45Speaker 1: excited about they like she was glowing.
- 5:48Speaker 3: She's a sugar fiend. But I did bring in for
- 5:51Speaker 3: Ryan and George. They had Does anyone remember the Yowies?
- 5:55Speaker 4: Oh yeah, she bought you guys yoey business, the one
- 5:59Speaker 4: with the middle.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Yeah, like a kind of surprise.
- 6:02Speaker 2: But this is my money. W yeah, money, yo. Do
- 6:10Speaker 2: you bang them to open them?
- 6:11Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 6:12Speaker 3: I feel like the chocolate we're going everywhere.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Yowie is They.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Normally just pry them apart. If I like a kinder surprise.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it's easy to pry because in hot little
- 6:22Speaker 2: hand and they're pretty soft.
- 6:23Speaker 1: To nobody's surprised. They're already getting into them. What's in
- 6:26Speaker 1: the middle of a yowie toy? Yeah, but like what
- 6:29Speaker 1: kind of toy with a toy? I'm excited. While they're
- 6:33Speaker 1: opening their yowie's, I'll tell you about my money whin
- 6:35Speaker 1: or confession. This week. It's got to do with parking
- 6:39Speaker 1: in the Melbourne CBD again, which is a running joke
- 6:41Speaker 1: for me. Now it's not a joke, it's my decision parking,
- 6:45Speaker 1: the actual joke. Yeah, exactly, exactly. But this week I
- 6:50Speaker 1: booked one place to park, because if you're going to
- 6:53Speaker 1: park in the CBD, you need to afford plan and
- 6:55Speaker 1: get your fifteen dollars CBD parking. So I did that,
- 6:59Speaker 1: and I went and drove into the wrong parking place,
- 7:02Speaker 1: went into work, and came out with a ninety dollars
- 7:04Speaker 1: parking bill because it turns out you actually have to
- 7:06Speaker 1: pay even though you paid somewhere else.
- 7:09Speaker 2: They're not all the same place.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Yeah, they're not all the same place. And yeah, that's
- 7:13Speaker 1: my faux part of the week. Definitely, down ninety dollars.
- 7:17Speaker 1: I'm not happy about it, but that's okay, that's okay.
- 7:19Speaker 1: We live and we learn and.
- 7:21Speaker 3: I'm having a bad round with car stuff.
- 7:23Speaker 1: I honestly I suck. Is okay, that's all right, Ryan,
- 7:27Speaker 1: please take the mic.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Does my money win have to be from this week
- 7:30Speaker 2: because I've been inspired by Jess's fridge story?
- 7:32Speaker 1: No, no, it can be from any time. All right,
- 7:35Speaker 1: We've now really opened the rules because I.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Feel like that she's on the money, thrives on the
- 7:40Speaker 3: organizational content.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I know. Do you know one of my highest
- 7:43Speaker 1: rated Instagram stories that I posted we're not talking sponsored,
- 7:47Speaker 1: We're is talking most responded to was the time that
- 7:50Speaker 1: I showed that I redd my pantry. We're nuts. If
- 7:53Speaker 1: I went this week, I strole my content this story.
- 7:58Speaker 3: I told me how to do it, and I got
- 8:00Speaker 3: literally fifteen dms being like, how do you hold your back?
- 8:03Speaker 2: I once did an Instagram story saying, oh my god,
- 8:05Speaker 2: Bridget's telling me this boring story about how organized the
- 8:08Speaker 2: new jars and the pantry are and they're all in line.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Didn't people come for they did?
- 8:13Speaker 2: They did? Lost bowlers? People like how dago that it
- 8:16Speaker 2: so fascinating? Show us the pantry, show us the.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Jar so hard on that do you know how long
- 8:20Speaker 1: it takes? Like I just thought.
- 8:22Speaker 2: I'd do it because I heard all about it.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Yeah, but like I just thought it would be buying
- 8:26Speaker 1: some new jars, popping your produce in it, and trucking
- 8:29Speaker 1: in the pantry. No, no, no, millions of millions of hours.
- 8:32Speaker 1: It's actually very disappointing.
- 8:35Speaker 2: I'll let you guys decide whether this is a real young,
- 8:38Speaker 2: gross boy thing to do or an actual legitimate money win.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Arguably so boy thing.
- 8:43Speaker 2: When I was in a sharehouse, we were going to
- 8:45Speaker 2: have a party and I wanted to make like punch
- 8:48Speaker 2: for the party, and we didn't have a big punch bowl,
- 8:50Speaker 2: so I was going to go buy one. Then I
- 8:53Speaker 2: realized that because I lived in a sharehouse with boys,
- 8:55Speaker 2: we didn't have fruit or vegetables. So you know the
- 8:58Speaker 2: crisper draw Yeah, it's smart. So instead of buying a
- 9:01Speaker 2: punch bowl, I mix the punch in the crisper bowl
- 9:04Speaker 2: and then it's in the fridge. It's in the fridge
- 9:06Speaker 2: so when someone wants to drink that, did we cleaned
- 9:09Speaker 2: it first? Yeahah, of course, problem and we put ice
- 9:12Speaker 2: in it, then frozen berries, a bit of sparkling, bit
- 9:14Speaker 2: of vogha, some soda and whatever, and then all you
- 9:17Speaker 2: need to do is open the fridge door, pull out
- 9:19Speaker 2: the crisper, and then just dunk a cup in and
- 9:21Speaker 2: it's fresh. It's in the fridge, it's ready to go.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Something about that that's I want to hate it, but
- 9:25Speaker 3: I kind of rate it.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I can see me loving that at a house. That's genius.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 9:31Speaker 1: You're welcome now to the really important questions of this week.
- 9:35Speaker 1: One Georgia, what was in your yowie?
- 9:37Speaker 4: Okay, so it's terribly exciting. It is a small plastic serpent.
- 9:43Speaker 4: I saw a real snake when I was running the
- 9:45Speaker 4: other day, a real one, small one similar sized to this.
- 9:49Speaker 4: Helpful for the listeners who cannot see what I'm holding,
- 9:52Speaker 4: But yeah, I'll be taking this.
- 9:53Speaker 3: George's really trying to make me feel good about George.
- 9:58Speaker 1: This is Ryan. Did you open your yowie? What have
- 10:00Speaker 1: you got?
- 10:00Speaker 2: And I can confirm that Jessica has given me craps
- 10:05Speaker 2: is a small little crab. It looks orange, It looks
- 10:08Speaker 2: a bit real and terrifying.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Actually doesn't hold on. I'm actually really disappointed. Was that
- 10:12Speaker 1: put together or was that something you you had to build?
- 10:15Speaker 2: No, that's all is wine.
- 10:16Speaker 1: No, I'm still I'm a fene of the kinder surprises
- 10:21Speaker 1: where you get to build the toy. No yaoi in
- 10:23Speaker 1: the bin? Sorry, no wonder it was discounted. Makes sense?
- 10:27Speaker 2: All right.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Let's move on and get cracking on arguably the most
- 10:32Speaker 1: exciting part of this show, and that is where Ryan
- 10:34Speaker 1: goes through his top eight. Last week it was top seven,
- 10:37Speaker 1: but this week it is top eight money wins from
- 10:39Speaker 1: the community, and we rate them.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Let's start with Meghan McGregor. Hang on, are we saying
- 10:47Speaker 2: the last name my last night? Megan? Meghan says, money win.
- 10:53Speaker 2: My work upgraded and got a new coffee machine and
- 10:56Speaker 2: they let me take the old coffee machine home and
- 10:59Speaker 2: it's amazing with my husband and I are saving heaps
- 11:01Speaker 2: of money on buying daily coffees.
- 11:03Speaker 1: That's actually an airpic money win.
- 11:05Speaker 2: That's huge.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I love that.
- 11:06Speaker 2: And also, just as a side note, if work has
- 11:08Speaker 2: a great coffee machine, it just really changes the game,
- 11:11Speaker 2: doesn't it when you can just go and get a
- 11:12Speaker 2: free when it work. Crystal Burton says, I cleaned out
- 11:15Speaker 2: some old stuff and sold my old sports watch and
- 11:18Speaker 2: a speaker today for four hundred dollars on Facebook Marketplace.
- 11:21Speaker 1: What pretty solid, that's eirpic.
- 11:23Speaker 2: I like that.
- 11:24Speaker 1: That's a big money win and.
- 11:25Speaker 2: A bit of a theme here. Michelle says. My money
- 11:29Speaker 2: win is selling my old roller blades from the late
- 11:31Speaker 2: nineties and scoring seventy dollars in my pocket. I haven't
- 11:35Speaker 2: worn them, Michelle says, since nineteen ninety eight, and.
- 11:38Speaker 1: She still sold them for seventy bucks.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Yep. Hopefully the young couple can get plenty aware out
- 11:43Speaker 2: of them.
- 11:43Speaker 3: That's kind of cute. I've bot a pair of second
- 11:44Speaker 3: hand skates off a face of face. How, oh my gosh, Hell,
- 11:51Speaker 3: they're cute. They're really fine. Yeah, yeah, I'm into it, Like.
- 11:54Speaker 1: I have roller blades. I didn't realize that they've just
- 11:56Speaker 1: been sitting in the shed essentially increasing invaw tell you investment,
- 12:02Speaker 1: roll the blades.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Take that, but just on the theme of the old
- 12:05Speaker 2: sports watch and the roller blades. If you're if you're
- 12:08Speaker 2: listening now, how much money do you reckons just sitting
- 12:13Speaker 2: around your house in stuff you don't use anymore?
- 12:15Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, we should make a challenge and see
- 12:18Speaker 1: who can make the most stuff in a week from
- 12:21Speaker 1: selling stuff they don't use on Facebook market place.
- 12:23Speaker 2: You've got a whole room in your house feed.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Right, I did not need to be attacked that.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Weird internal bedroom thing.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Excuse me?
- 12:30Speaker 2: How much is in that in that room?
- 12:31Speaker 1: I would just like to preface this by saying I
- 12:33Speaker 1: recently moved house and my house is still really messy.
- 12:36Speaker 1: But at our old house we had a shed, and
- 12:38Speaker 1: now we do not have a shed. So the contents
- 12:40Speaker 1: of my shared is sitting in a spare bedroom. Sell it, Georgia,
- 12:43Speaker 1: how much I'm not going to sell it. I love
- 12:45Speaker 1: all of that stuff and quite clearly need it.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Georgia. How much over stuff in your house do you
- 12:50Speaker 2: think you own?
- 12:52Speaker 4: Well, not a lot. So it was a strange noise. Yeah,
- 12:57Speaker 4: I feel like I'm overboring out, So I just let
- 12:59Speaker 4: were a bit of a I'm pretty minimalist.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Yeah, i'd so much, especially as a content person, the
- 13:06Speaker 3: amount of like necessary just sit.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Oh that you bought for one photo.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Yeah, and you don't want to go over it, like
- 13:13Speaker 3: you just to hold onto it for no good reason.
- 13:14Speaker 1: I have no doubt that Jess would run rings around us,
- 13:17Speaker 1: because the other day she was at my house and
- 13:19Speaker 1: we were doing a content post and she's kind of
- 13:22Speaker 1: scurrying around my house pulling things from bedrooms and something
- 13:25Speaker 1: from the bathroom, grab something out of the kitchen, put
- 13:27Speaker 1: it together and make a nice content post. And I
- 13:28Speaker 1: was pretty impressed. But she's like, do you have any
- 13:30Speaker 1: other mirrors? And I was like what She's like, Oh,
- 13:33Speaker 1: I have like six mirrors at home for content.
- 13:34Speaker 3: And I was like, there's a spot in our garage
- 13:37Speaker 3: that's dedicated to like large objects, so like frames, mirrors, shelves,
- 13:41Speaker 3: like decorative watercorse.
- 13:43Speaker 2: But I just it is why mirrors though? Is that?
- 13:46Speaker 2: I guess every influencer has to take photo of themselves
- 13:48Speaker 2: in a mirror. But what other mirror content is a thing?
- 13:51Speaker 3: Well, I do a lot of product like product mirror
- 13:54Speaker 3: shots or I have done, and I like interesting mirrors,
- 13:57Speaker 3: like I have a hexagon.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Guys Es is very big in the mirror space.
- 14:01Speaker 3: I just love to look at myself.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Apparently, well that's a reflection of your personality. Natasha says
- 14:09Speaker 2: money Win. I'm now over sixty thousand dollars in my
- 14:13Speaker 2: micro investing platforms. I started investing just one dollar a
- 14:16Speaker 2: day heaps of years back, and now I'm investing over
- 14:18Speaker 2: three thousand per month.
- 14:19Speaker 1: I believe grand a month.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Yeah. Now we say, you know, start small and increase
- 14:25Speaker 2: when you can, and she's at the point where she
- 14:27Speaker 2: should probably be chatting with me and saying, okay, what's next?
- 14:29Speaker 1: Probably should have a chat my friend, But what is.
- 14:31Speaker 2: The number one theme of starting from a dollar a day?
- 14:35Speaker 1: I don't know. Was this going somewhere with I knew,
- 14:39Speaker 1: I knew I should have known. But you done, It's
- 14:43Speaker 1: still to go, No.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Nicole, Melissa says, actually, how much does it, maybe Georgia
- 14:49Speaker 2: or just want to how much does it normally cost
- 14:52Speaker 2: for a legit cast iron casse old dish, like a
- 14:55Speaker 2: really good they're really.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Expensive, like a Lake crusade.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Yeah, he's like four hundred dollars.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Oh, what do you mean four hundred? Be sure that
- 15:04Speaker 1: would be a money win, my friend, They're like seven
