- Alex: Welcome to another edition of the Unsexy Podcast, where we talk about the unsexy side of everything. Today we're joined by an extremely special guest, the eldest of the Skinner of our Skinner clan. Monty Skinner is here. ⁓ as always, joined by my brother Aaron Skinner. And today we have Monty on because we like to get all types and varieties of people and the health journeys that they're going through. ⁓ I'm just gonna start off here and I hope that this isn't offensive, Monty. So I am 37 years old. No, I'm 36, which means that Monty is thir is 57 years old. ⁓ and so you're one of the older people that we've had, like normally of people like in their thir like late twenties, early thirties, ⁓ so far. And I think this is going to be a really great example of how there's no reason to sp Monty: Mm-hmm. Alex: to s not start doing something with with your health journey. Like at any point and any time someone can do that. So I just wanted to open up to you really fast. Like what led to the this decision of making these changes in your life? Monty: Well I number number number of years ago, probably I don't know, five, six years ago, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. So, you know, kinda went and got that diagnose and and got that all squared away. ⁓ and when I say high I mean like two hundred over something, you know, it was high. You know you know, and and so you know, that that was a number of years ago and you know, with our ⁓ Aaron: Yeah, yeah. Alex: I believe you, better. Monty: some of our family history, I was also pre I mean recently the last last couple of years, like pre diabetes, diabetic. And where it was just it was like it and I was always just on the l on the edge, right? It wasn't I didn't have it, but I wasn't low enough where it was, you know, so it was just like my ⁓ ACL score was was mid range and I'm like, okay, I gotta, you know. And then there were complications with that, you know, so ⁓ with Aaron: Mm-hmm. Sure. Monty: you know, with that with ⁓ retaining water, with you know, and so for the last, you know, five, six you know, five or six years, you know, I've been at my my my heaviest, which was ⁓ I think that my heaviest was like two hundred and fifty five. So y yeah. I'm but ⁓ but I'm a few inches shorter than air so and ⁓ so so anyways, ⁓ my Aaron: ⁓ those they gotta bump those numbers up, Monty. Those are those are rookie numbers. ⁓ Alex: Ha ha ha. Monty: you know, in in conjunction with my my my doctor and I'd you know, I'd done probably a lot of stuff like like Aaron had done that I hear Aaron talk about. but I just figured, hey, I'm getting older, I have my f my ⁓ first grandkid, you know, is on on their way at that point. Obviously he's been born now, but and, you know, I wanna live a healthy, long life and not have that affected by some of the physical ⁓ ailments or diseases that tha ⁓ that come with being, you know, being overweight. So Alex: So when did like so you said like last five years at your heaviest, go and have all these tests, like when was like the turning point? Was that like six months ago, eight months ago, a year ago, two years ago? Monty: Six months ago was probably the 'cause my like I said, my my my blood pressure is completely is been is under control, right? ⁓ now some of that is medication, you know, has helped with that, but my blood pressure is, you know and I'll get into that in a second, actually it got too low because because of my ⁓ calorie deficit that I was doing and my and ⁓ lack of water, but we could talk about that in ⁓ in a few minutes. but it Aaron: You're too calm. Monty: It just didn't seem to be any better, right? So I mean as far as I th the the pre-diabetes thing would always every time I'd have my bladder works it I have it done like every six months, right? So and that number just ⁓ it's like down, you know, point two point you know and I'm like point two I'm like I want it, you know, down in the yeah, in the in the normal yeah, in the normal way. So I did the you know just the the regular I tried okay quick I mean I pretty much Aaron: Yeah. What do I gotta do? Monty: quit soda quite a while ago. ⁓ like, ⁓ let's quit soda, let's do some of those other things. Yeah. Yes, ⁓ my my kids have a ⁓ dirty soda business, so that's very ironic. but but but anyways, I I just thought, man, this is and so I mean I know you've talked about it a little bit. So my my ⁓ my doctor, ⁓ who like I said, she's been my doctor for a number of years now and she's like, hey, we've tried you've tried everything, you know. Aaron: That's ironic. Ha ha. Monty: Now, not to the calip, you know, the and I'll get how in conjunction this kind of works. So she a few months ago, you know, suggested a GLP, GLP one. more so for my the the pre-diabetes, right? Obviously, understanding most people take it for weight loss, and I understand that's what that's what it is for as well. But with with that, there's healthy and unhealthy ways to go about doing that, right? So Aaron: Sure. Yeah. Absolutely. Monty: within within the first couple months my numbers, you know, dropped dramatically with the g you know, as far as with the as far as the the di like you know, like point eight points, you know, when where it'd take like a whole year to drop a point, you know, a tenth. so Aaron: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Alex: Actually really quick, what is that scale? Like what's the scale for I honestly have no idea. Like so you see Monty: So six five so six seven it's ⁓ quest diagnostics or you know, you can look at ⁓ it'll 'cause it always gives you the range when you get all your blood work, right? Okay, cholesterol looks good, this looks good, looks okay, you're ⁓ like six five to six five to six eight like pre diabetes, right? ⁓ so as I so yeah, yeah, so it's a scale. Yes. Yeah. So so ⁓ within those first couple of months I dropped to like six one. You know. Alex: Yeah. Okay, okay. So we're talking like a scale that's like three to eight. Okay. Okay. Aaron: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Monty: So that was I mean to me I'm like, wow, that was obviously huge, you know, from from the pre diabetes or you know, you know, standpoint. And but w along those I started watching, you know, seeing Aaron and watching his you know, some of his videos about what else he was doing 'cause I know I I knew that there you know, I also needed to change ⁓ my nutrition habits, right? And try and And so that's when I really got into the using the MyNet Diary app, ⁓ tracking macros, ⁓ drinking, you know, a ton of fair life or, you know, protein shakes, ⁓ and still trying to figure out why I'm not getting enough carbs for the day. You know, it's yeah, weird. But within that, so the last few months you and I've went from two fifty five and I'm down to like two fifteen. ⁓ you know, so ⁓ Aaron: ⁓ good. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Weird, right? Jesus. Alex: A lot. Monty: And but but yeah, but the the what really sped it up was when I really started tracking my macros and using that the my diet app. I mean like you you talk about it's kind of like a broken record for those listening to podcasts, but taking the so so taking the pictures or tracking your food, a once you start doing it is the easiest thing in the world. It literally takes five seconds, you know, and especially Alex: That's in six months? Damn. Aaron: No, preach, preach. Alex: Seriously. Aaron: Thank you. Monty: Especially if you're doing the same thing, you know, and so I mean a lot of times I work from from from home when I'm not traveling, 'cause I just work out of my home office. So then it's super easy, right? It's like, okay, protein shake, protein shake, and then I'll have my meal meal at night, right? where I got into a little trouble was when like, ⁓ man, this what weight's coming. Great. You know, it's ⁓ losing weight and ⁓ but my calorie deficit was probably too low, right? So Aaron: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Sure. Yeah. Monty: It suggested my calorie deficit should be sixteen eighty two, I think is my number, right? Somewhere somewhere around there. Aaron: So th I mean your so your your your calories a day is sixteen eighty two, not your actual deficit. Okay, yes. Monty: Correct. Correct. Yeah, so my calories a day is six is sixteen eighty two. I I put that into chat a few a few weeks ago and it probably should be more around eighteen hundred, ⁓ somewhere around there. But I I usually try and stay between sixteen seventy to to eighteen hundred calories a day. but I had a couple days in a row where I had a work meeting in Oakland. ⁓ rarely have to go there. They're having panda and as much as I love Panda Express, I'm like I'm not eating it. Aaron: Okay. Sure. Yeah. Monty: ⁓ so and I forgot my shake, of course, that day. And I'm in ⁓ you know, I'm in lovely ⁓ Oakland on ninety eighth street where I'm not venturing out anywhere to try I mean th I this is the one location that in and out has closed their doors is where my office is. So I'm I'm not I'm not venturing out to Yes exactly. I'm like, wait, so Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Aaron: Yeah. Yeah. Well, you're still you're trying not to die by be being healthy and then also not going out venturing in those r those streets. Alex: Ha ha ha Like I just got healthy and now I got murdered. All g much good all that health ⁓ dieting did for ya. ⁓ Monty: Exactly. Yeah. So so I didn't eat that night, probably got home late, didn't eat the next I had a pot I did my podcast that night and then ⁓ the next day once again and so I I took my blood pressure and it was like it was low, right? My normally I'm like around one twenty over you know, so ⁓ w one twenty around, you know, seventy, somewhere out there. And it was down to like ninety or a hundred, you know. So super it's that's like low, low. You didn't Aaron: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Monty: not want to be. So I went to the doctor and ⁓ did a blood test and she's like, ⁓ okay, yeah, you need to ⁓ first I need you to eat more sugar, which you know, I didn't think that would ever be said to me in the last la last six years because the whole other conversation the last six years have been cut this, cut this, stop eating. Yes, don't eat this. ⁓ I need you to increase your calories and ⁓ you need to drink a lot more water. So ⁓ and that was probably ⁓ too much I don't know Aaron: Right. Alex: Yeah. Yeah. Aaron: Stop eating sugar. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Alex: Less sugar, less sugar, less sugar. Monty: couple of months ago. So now I mean I I'm pretty religious at drink I mean I'm drinking like a hundred ounces of water a day. I'm getting the calories in. ⁓ because I you know it just it that because it goes to show you there could be an el unhealthy side of not eating enough. Not drinking enough water. ⁓ I you need that stuff to stay. Obviously you have to watch what you eat, you know, a as well. ⁓ Aaron: Yep. Yes. Yeah. Monty: So anyways, that's kind of been my Aaron: I think that's one of our that's one of the things I mean, ⁓ I don't think Alex and I have ever been like negative on GLP ones. I think we've been negative on ⁓ people n using it as just the the crutch and not learning like you d like you did. You learned healthy Monty: Right. Aaron: eating habits and and all that stuff. They take it to the extreme where there's like, sweet, I'm never hungry. And then you fall into these issues where you're malnourished, you're losing a bunch of muscle, which is counterintuitive to the amount of calories you're burning every day. and so that's that's that's always been my big thing. Like I I'm I think GLP ones are awesome. It's just people they use it too much as, like I said, a crutch and they never learn to actually walk on their own. Monty: Right. Right. Well Well it's only correct and also if you're doing it correctly, you're you're I mean my doctor doesn't want me on it more than a year, right? So you know, so so she's like, Hey, no, it's you know even even when she saw when the first mean the first time she saw me after I lost all the she's like, Wow, you've lost forty Aaron: Good. You have a good doctor. Yeah. Monty: you know, forty pounds. I mean, she's ⁓ I think you'll do a good on this. Like, I did really good on it, you know. Because I use it as a comp you know, because I I know I still need to eat, right? Even though I had like said that thirty six hours where I mean, bad on me. I because I I I've gotten pretty pretty routine, you know, where I'm take you know, I'm taking everything that I need to be to be taking and then just trying to be smart. Now, am I perfect? You know, I've Aaron: Yeah. Alex: Sure. Aaron: Yes. Yeah, it happens. Mm-hmm. Monty: pretty much cut most fast food out out, you know, I'll have it from but it's not like I'm going three times a week. Which like this this week, like I said, I've been a on the road for ten days, right? So I I sent you a picture of my my ⁓ grocery cart three weeks ago when I was in Washington, right? I almost sent you another picture 'cause I saw your you know, with just filled with the core protein and rice cakes and s forty w forty bottles of water for the week, you know? Which seems insane. Aaron: Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Yeah, Protegen Yeah, yeah, yes. It is. Alex: Well so with the GLP ones, ⁓ so you're you're at six months with them, you might be going up to a year. and you said you're tracking your macros, like what w like you don't have to give me like your exact macro goals, like I just know with GLP ones it's really hard to get those because you don't feel hungry. ⁓ like how how do you go about like ensuring you're getting that? Easy, put them down. Monty: That's yeah, so that's why I take protein shakes. I mean pro I mean t yeah, protein shakes d and they taste so I mean those pro life ones that I mean I'm not doing a commercial for pro life, but the fair life is unfreaking believable. You know, Aaron yeah, Aaron turned those on to me ⁓ and I bought like, you know, two I buy two cases at a time. ⁓ and I don't always drink them because I do I do use another protein powder that I mix with fruit and and and ⁓ Aaron: The fair life, the best. Yes. Yeah. It's like it's chocolate milk. Alex: Fair life, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Aaron: Mm-hmm. Monty: Some creatine and some gut health powder, but you know, other than that, I pretty stay so Alex to your crest question, yeah, if I was because definitely your appetite is suppressed, right? And so I think that's that's that's a a a case in point for maybe some people where they're not eating as much as they should. And so to your point where you're not eating, get that protein, so you're losing you're not you're losing the fat and you're also losing muscle. ⁓ that that can become, you know, problematic. So I my so like, you know, I'm right now on about eighty four g grams of protein a day, ⁓ is what is what my macros are at. I'm always over that. I'm always probably closer to a hundred. ⁓ some you know, somewhere around there. Aaron: Yeah. Where where did you come up with eighty four? I d 'cause like not to call ya that sounds really low. Monty: ⁓ Alex: I thought that yeah. I do one sixty, like as an example. Monty: So j yeah, so I think I mean I I haven't gotten to a regular workout routine. I think once that happens, I'm gonna I'm definitely gonna be bumping that up. And chat GPT also, I mean, because I I've started throwing all my kind of like my meals, you know, and everything in a chat. And chat definitely recommends a higher, you know, higher protein. ⁓ but I'm trying to get, you know, I'm trying to break that 200 pound barrier, right? That's everybody has that. that number, right? That hey right now it's one ninety five. ⁓ I think at one ninety I mean I which I haven't been in I don't probably fifteen years. I mean when I did the crazy H C G deal and that was that was insane. 'Cause that was like five hundred calories a day. But that was probably fifteen years ago and I lost a t I mean, lost a ton of weight. I think I was down to one eighty five. But I think ⁓ yeah, yeah. I exactly. You know, what a what a what a concept. But ⁓ Aaron: What's your goal weight? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Imagine that starving yourself, you lose weight. That's crazy. Monty: But I I think that'd be health, you know, where I look healthy and not not look like ⁓ you know, have a disease or something like that. I think one ninety-five and who knows, maybe it I'll get to one ninety five and say, you know what? Maybe one, you know, because y you've also talked about the BMI, which it's like if I if I w truly went on my BMI, I'd be I'd weigh less than I did in high school. And I was a rail in high school. You know, I was like one fifty-five. Aaron: ⁓ My my BMI, Matt Monty, my my BMI still says I'm overweight. Monty: Yeah, exactly. So so I got the so the my debt diary is kind of what set go back to your question, Alex, is what set my protein because it said, Hey, if you wanna 'cause you can say, hey, I want to e lose X amount of weight in this period of time, it will set your macros for you. In when order Yes, yeah, yes. And so it sets my, you know, my fat, my carbs. ⁓ like I said, I I never thought carbs would be my hardest thing to get. Alex: Yeah. Aaron: Sure. Alex: And then did you like choose like balanced? Monty: I mean it's like I don't I don't underst I mean it's like I even like like today I had french fries, right? Which I normally don't get. I I'm still I'm still below my carbs. You know, I had y you know, so but obviously there's healthy, you know, slash unhealthy carbs. So let's just get into that. Aaron: Sure. Yeah. Yes. Yes. Alex: They're like all fat. Aaron: Yes. I would not that I'm a doctor, ⁓ I would double the amount of c protein that you're taking every day. ⁓ again, I'm sure people listen, there's probably a doctor or nutritionist that's like, shut the fuck up. You don't know what you're talking about. But I just it as far as like everything that I've read and everything is like between it's like point seven to one gram of Alex: I'll tell you what. Monty: Protein. Alex: And cut the fat. Aaron: of of body weight that you want to be at. So like I was always so even when I was like 280, I wasn't trying to get 280 grams of protein. I was always getting at least 210. Cause I wanted that that was my goal weight was to be around 200, 210 pounds. And so that's what I always shot for. So whatever your goal weight is, I would just multiply that by either 0.7 or one and then use that number. Just because that's that's honestly what's going to be able to ⁓ help you retain as much muscle as you can, especially while you're losing a bunch of weight. ⁓ would be the only thing that I would I would I would recommend as someone who's not qualified to do that to tell you that at all. Alex: Well and it does go back to like what your goals are. Like if the goals are like I just don't want to be diabetic. Like I you're you're ⁓ you already did it, right? Like you you've done the thing that you've done the thing that like have remo has like ⁓ removed that obstacle from you. But it really does like cause so the reason that mine is at one sixty is because I don't know if you've heard this story. I'm just gonna I know I've said it two times before. Like I was trying to get to this goal weight of Connor McGregor at one fifty-three and then like similar to like what you said, Monty, where like, ⁓ I was like, Do I wanna look Monty: Yeah. Yeah. I mean yeah. Alex: like emaciated. Do I want to look like super skinny rail Alex from high school who just got back from his mission, had tapeworms and stuff like that that ate all of that ate all of the calories that I had. And I was just like, ⁓ no, I don't want to be to that. So actually I didn't like cause my initial goal was to get to one fifty. And I was like, I think like one sixty five is actually like where I want to be. And so now I'm at one fifty nine trying to get it back to that sixty five. So that that's just once again, it all comes back to like whatever the goals are and keep using AI because that's how I built Monty: Yeah, right. Well yeah. Alex: out everything everything for me. I was like, I want to have like, and now I have my data points of like I have 21.4% body fat. I want to get that to 16% body fat. By this date, what do my macros need to look like to be able to do that? It's like a ton of protein, ton of carbs, really, really, really small amount of fat. Which once again, that is for the goal that I'm trying to, that's from my goal. Aaron: ⁓ yeah. Monty: Yeah. Aaron: That's for you. Yeah, right. Monty: Right. I mean I'm I'm sure I'll get to one ninety five and probably want to say like one eighty five, but it it's like y to me, like fli to be honest with you, one of the biggest drawbacks to l what's not a drawback, but it costs a lot of money to lose weight because then you have to buy new clothes, right? So my ⁓ Yes. That's the benefit. So so yeah, so so I like to thank Stitch Fix and ⁓ whoever else can sponsor me too, you know. ⁓ but Aaron: Yes. That's the benefit of it. Alex: You don't just have boxes like I do with your old clothes marked with the weight you were? Monty: But i i but but s yeah. Yeah. unfortunately ⁓ I got rid of all those ⁓ n quite a number of years ago, so I don't have I I may still have a sub, but I mean I I I was telling my wife the other night that I mean I I have the belts, you know, that that ⁓ you can just you know, scint. They don't have they don't have loops. They have like and and ⁓ so I cut like two inches off the belt, right? And and Alex: Like just go into my garage, there's a one hundred and twenty pound Alex clothing section. Monty: I my the belt I have on right now I could probably cut another inch, inch and a half off right now. You know, it's just and so I I mean I started where my even me just my pants, I mean I literally had to get pants because my old pants I couldn't even with a belt would just fall off, you know, and then Aaron: Yeah, yeah. Would just fall off. Yeah. Or you try to you try to put them on with a belt, they're just like all crinkled up. Yeah. Yeah. Monty: Yeah, so it looks bad, right? I'm like, hey, I got business meetings, I have clients, I gotta you know, it's not like I I can't just I can't just hang out in, you know, sweats and and shorts and and but even that, I mean, even I had a lot of shorts that didn't have belt loops, right? And so I'm like put one some on the other day, I'm like, ⁓ my gosh, you gotta be kidding you know, I gotta now I gotta buy shorts, you know. ⁓ and then yeah, and then and then how you know how you're in the Aaron: Where is a badge of honor, Monty? Alex: I think I just heard Aaron: Those are motivators, man. Alex: But that sounded like a little loop here you just f loophole. It's you just it's a business expense. Monty: the in between t shirt phase right now. So I'm in between extra large and large. You know, they don't make a a large ⁓ like the Schmidiums. But but but but it but anyways, there's so there's that, I mean th which obviously is awesome. You know, it's it's great to be able to to me to me, I mean while while I do generally, except for the last ten days I've been on the road, weigh myself every single day, right? Aaron: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. ⁓ Monty: And you know, it's like Aaron, you know, it's like it's like sometimes you get on like, ⁓ I grained a pound, then I lost f how the hell did I lose four pounds in a day? I'm like I'm like I did the exact same thing and then like a day later you think you've eaten less and you gained a pound. You know, it's just like one of those things. But ⁓ but I like even the amount of time I've been on the road, I don't I maybe have gained a pound or two. I mean I'm I'm guessing 'cause based on my trips, that's usually you know what happens so I can kind of get back to my routine. ⁓ but I you know like I said, I like I said ⁓ in my Aaron: Yeah. ⁓ Yeah. Yeah. Monty: my ⁓ can't say mid fifties anymore, so you know, up upper, you know, upper fifties and obviously metabolism slows down. ⁓ there's, you know, all the all the things and I could have just said, hey, I'm good with where I'm at and and but I wanted to, you know, improve my health, you know, and have have that more energy and, you know, not to have to w take water pills or not have to take, you know, so even my I mean I've cut down I and actually I have cut down some of my medication, too, I've cut down on my Blood blood plotter metric medication, I've cut back on a couple other things. So, you know, which is which is awesome. You know, that's that. Aaron: Nice. A so you you did mention some of the the supplements that you're taking. ⁓ you said creatine. Like w is there anything besides creatine ⁓ supplement wise that you take? Monty: Mm-hmm. I wish I could ⁓ yeah, so I take something for gut health. I can't remember what it's called, but I take it's like a powder and I I I take that. And then I take a multivitamin, which ⁓ I'm sure is just ending up in the the wasteland. But I take the multivitamin ⁓ fish oil. I to do take a ⁓ Alaskan fish oil tablet, even though my doctor said, you know. See same say yeah, same thing. ⁓ but she did tell I I didn't she did tell me I need to take vitamin D. So I do take ⁓ 'cause I wasn't drinking milk, you know. ⁓ Aaron: ⁓ okay. Me too. You don't need to. Yeah. Mm. Monty: Most of my most of the shakes that I do are in with water. ⁓ and so I did I am on a ⁓ vitamin D supplement as well. But that's that's pr Alex: Was this and that was that from like your test? Like your test comebacks like, hey, your vitamin D is down. Okay, cool. So a lot of a lot of like stuff that you're basing all this off is from those blood tests you're doing. Yeah, cool. Aaron: How much how much? Monty: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Mm-hmm. ⁓ ⁓ absolutely yeah. So I I look at I always look when I get my blood test, I always look and see where I was at, you know, and and where I am, you know, today. ⁓ and like I said, a a l most of it has is his, you know, come come down and is looking, you know, ten times like a actual normal healthy Aaron: I got some good I I got some good news for you, Monty. The Fair Life protein shakes we take gets you twenty to twenty-five percent of your daily daily value of vitamin D per shake. Yeah, there you go. That you just all you do is you just need to win win the lottery so you can afford to do that. Monty: So now now I just need four. That to four a day instead of two. And I'll get a hundred percent. Yeah. Yeah. Luckily ⁓ Costco sells me the twenty four case pack, so Alex: Ooh, that'll get you that's a hundred and twenty grams. Aaron: Yeah. And the price keeps going up. Stop it for a life. Monty: Yeah, yeah, yes, I know. It's like, come on. We we've been supporting you for for a long time. Aaron: Yeah. Come on. ⁓ okay, so vitamin D creat how much ⁓ creatine do you take a day? Monty: ⁓ I don't know what the melligram was two teaspoons. ⁓ so that's all I I'm taking right now. Yeah. Yeah. Two tea two teaspoons. Two. Yeah. Aaron: Probably five. Alex: So that's about eight gr teaspoons? I do two teaspoons, it's eight grams. Aaron: Yeah, too. Trying to remember I guess it depends on which one you're taking. Mine Alex: Yeah. I mean at least my teaspoon that I have. Monty: I'm taking the bag one that you use, the yeah, the yeah, the bulk supplement. So I'm taking two of those. Aaron: ⁓ yeah, the the the mu the bulk supplements. I do a tablespoon, which is ten milligrams. Alex: Three isn't that is that three teaspoons? Are we gonna have to I honestly have no idea? Teaspoons in tablespoon. Three teaspoons. There are three teaspoons and a tablespoon. Monty: I just know I know I'm taking two teaspoons. I'm and I know for a fact I'm taking teaspoons. Yeah. So he's taking one more than I am. One more teaspoon. Aaron: Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ yeah. Yeah. I'm so I it's a it's a rounded tablespoon. no that's good. I mean that's that's it's good to take the I mean, especially creatine is ⁓ you know, like I say all the time, like one of the most researched supplements of all time. And has besides I mean people like, ⁓ you take it for like muscles, like I honestly don't even take over the muscle aspect. I take it for the the the cognitive and neurological benefits that that come with it. Monty: Yeah, so yeah. Yeah, having that history in our family, you know, it it ⁓ it's like anything I can take that that may help with that is the better the better. I know. The cognit the Alzheimer's history? Aaron: Yes. Yes, exactly. Alex: History hiss history, what are you talking about, that history in our family? What are you talking about? ⁓ I forgot. Aaron: The Alzheimer's history. Monty: ⁓ See? Yeah, see? Alex started too late. Aaron: You got see Alex, you gotta be taking three teaspoons. Get the rounded tablespoon. ⁓ Alex: I gotta get that tablespoon going. Gotta get that tablespoon going. ⁓ my gosh. ⁓ my gosh. I I guess I gotta start doing the nicotine too. ⁓ my gosh. Monty: ⁓ Aaron: Yeah, you gotta yeah, just gotta you gotta get on all of it, man. ⁓ I was gonna ask you too. So you've gone through this, so you is the goal to within the next six months like get off of like GLP ones? I I guess Monty: Yeah, well yeah yeah, because I you know, 'cause I don't I know also all the things as far as, you know, the GLP one I mean, and I'm just at a maintenance I mean, I haven't even I I think I've gone one dose up. I mean you can go I don't know how h I'm at like I'm at five milligrams right now. Yeah. You can go up to like twelve or fifteen and I'm I'm not gonna go any higher than what I'm at right now. no. Yeah. So yeah. That's why I drink a lot of water. Alex: I miss food. Aaron: What are you at? Are you at like ⁓ two milligrams? Yeah, you can go up like twelve. Yeah. Yeah. You would never eat if you went that high. Yes. Constant diarrhea. Alex: You just have diarrhea all the time, right? Monty: ⁓ in a lot of Yeah. ⁓ but but I because I want to be able to control after I've gotten to that that point where it's not something that I have to rely on to take to to maintain that. And like I said, I also think if I was on a I mean, I've gone in and out as far as the exercising portion of it. I kinda have a home routine that I've done Aaron: Yeah. Great way to lose weight. Yeah. Yeah. Monty: that I wanna amp up a little bit. ⁓ that I mean ⁓ unfortunately I played a lot of volleyball when I was younger and my my knees are getting I mean and unfortunately those aren't things that I can control as far as, you know, minor arthr arthritis and things like that. So sometimes doing like l you know, tech you know, walking a long ways and unless not that I don't walk, I mean I walk walk fine, but I'm just trying to prevent any injury from you know from you know from happening because I've seen Aaron: Sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah, of course. Monty: You know, I few years ago was playing volleyball and saw, you know, ⁓ somebody that that we all know basically snapped their snap their Achilles and that was I listened to your podcast on ⁓ last week about that your friend that had done that. I'm like, ⁓ yeah, I saw that happen. It is not not not pretty, you know, no bueno at Aaron: Yeah. No bueno. No bueno. That's what Juan would say. Alex: Well so you have so you have the knee problems. Like, ⁓ I th I think it'd be helpful for anyone like I'm sure there's people who listen to this who have knee problems. Like what are like some of the exercises you're doing to like to mitigate hurting those more? Monty: So I well, what's kind of pretty interesting or not interesting is the fact that I've obviously lost weight has helped with you know, with with that. so that's ⁓ obviously a huge thing, but I find just walk you know, just just walking. I hate running. I've never liked to run. Mm all my friends were cross country r runners and I said, let me know where to pick you up. I mean I'll I'll I'll do a fifty yard dash. Aaron: Yes, of yes. Alex: With your knees. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Aaron: Ha ha ha. Monty: ten times before I'll I'll run four miles, you know. but I you know I walk you know, I usually I mean, try and get the ten thousand steps in, you know, you know, if possible, 'cause I think that that yeah, no, that helps. ⁓ but I I literally I mean, ⁓ it's probably six months or a year ago when I was having those more where I more frequently I was having the pain in the knee and after I, like I said, losing Aaron: Yeah. Alex: ⁓ damn. Monty: You know, forty pounds probably helps a lot with that, not putting that much of weight on those joints and things like that. and but but other than that I'm not I mean so I I d so it is. But but then I'll tell me, ⁓ you need to do fifteen, you know. ⁓ y yeah, so I I I try and get out and like I was trying to sing like every hour I get out and do so many, you know, so many steps, you know, just around the Aaron: Yes. Do you ⁓ Alex: Well ten thousand subs today is a lot. That's a ton, especially for like when you when you have a sedentary job. Yeah. Aaron: Yeah, it is a lot. Monty: just around the neighborhood or if a lot of times it's just getting up early in the morning and doing the big you know, just walking around my my housing development and getting a lot of steps in that first thing in the morning. ⁓ or going from terminal A to terminal B in Salt Lake will also help that tremendous or or ⁓ LAX from gate two to gate seven, which is a was is on you know, which is anyways, that's a whole nother story, but don't get me stuck. Yeah. Aaron: Ha ha. ⁓ my gosh. I did that I did the Salt Lake one yesterday. So yeah. Monty: Yeah, I did ⁓ did it on Friday, so ⁓ i I was on Delta and for some reason they sent me from Terminal A to B to go to Montana. I'm like, You gotta be kidding me. But yeah. Aaron: Yeah. Yep. Yep. ⁓ do you have like do you have any sort of workout plan? I know you said you're you're on the road a lot and stuff, but ⁓ like you're like, hey, I once I get to this weight, I wanna start doing A B or C like whatever it is. Monty: So yeah, so Yeah. So, ⁓ I mean I do have I mean I do I I do weights for like, you know, sh ⁓ I do some core, I do arms, ⁓ but I haven't done a lot of lay, you know, heavy heavy things with my legs, right? And I used to ha and I used to do that a lot. I mean I have really good ca I mean strong calves and and yeah, exactly, you know, and volleyball helped with that immensely as well. ⁓ back you know, back in the day. Aaron: Mm-hmm. Got the Skinner Cabs. Monty: ⁓ but I s when I was starting to have my knee issues, I just didn't want to push my knees, you know. I didn't wanna, you know, try and I'm like I do not want to get injured. I don't wanna, you know, especially like said it yeah. Yeah, and I'm like I said, I travel like a lot for work, so I'm like I can't be messing up my knee and then be down and not being able to to, you know, travel for you know, for work. So I haven't worked so it's basically core, shoulders, arms, ⁓ Aaron: Yeah. ⁓ yeah. Aggrav agr aggravated even more. Sure. Monty: thing you know, and I have this kind of routine that I do. I'm gonna ⁓ wanna get back, ⁓ start a new one that's probably a little more more intense on the weight aspect of you know, of things. ⁓ but also being hey, I have a I have tendonitis in the shoulder from volleyball. So there's things like that that I just have to be careful of, you know, you know, as well. I don't anyway. Aaron: Mm-hmm. Yeah. And never never feel like you have to lift like heavy weights. Like I was it's funny, I was ⁓ so I was telling you guys I was in Scottsdale and so I was at the pool and this never would have happened to me a year ago. But a guy came up to me and he's just like, Hey dude, like what's your w workout routine? He's like, You would lift like lots of heavy weight. I was like, actually I don't lift heavy like at all. Like I do high reps like what? I thought I thought you build muscle by lifting heavy. I was like, I don't. Like I just I there's just the the injury risk for me is just too high. Like I don't want to do Monty: Yeah. Well Right. Aaron: heavy weights and so I'm always high reps controlled everything. So I just like don't feel like because you're going to lift weights it has to be heavy. It it doesn't. Monty: Well Tony Horton from P ninety X taught me that, so it's like you can do five pounds, you know, just it's it's just just some weight, you know, just resist it. So it's so basically it's just resist. So I guess it's mainly resistance because yeah. So I ha I do have bands, but I've mean I d I do have the dumbbells and things like that. So I'm I'm not and j unfortunately or fortunately, whatever you want to because of my travel schedule, it's not like I can go to a gym every day, right? ⁓ I'm Aaron: Just You can do like resistant bands and stuff, yeah. Monty: Bas so there's there needs to be things, especially at home where I can just do at home ⁓ and try and get that. I try ⁓ Aaron: I I I try to say the courtyard doesn't have an amazing gym in it. Monty: ⁓ I don't want to say that, but potentially. Yeah. Yes, yeah. The ⁓ Aaron: It does it doesn't. ⁓ Alex and I have been to lots of we've all been to lots of the Marriott gyms. They all suck. Except the one in ⁓ I'll tell you which one's great. The ⁓ the one in Vegas, the ⁓ Grand Chateau, great gym. Great gym. But they started charging for parking, so I'm out. I'm out Grand Chateau. Monty: Mm. You know the and the ⁓ Well well the the optical illusion they do by putting all the mirrors in to make it look bigger than it is is, you know, pretty amazing too. 'Cause it makes it look like it's twice as big as it actually like, ⁓ my gosh, this is amazing. You walk in, you're like, wait a second, it's like a shoebox, you know, and then if and then if there's two other people in there, it's like great, now where am I gonna get my weights from? You know So that's the ⁓ that's the other the other problem, yeah, if if you if you Aaron: It's great, yeah. Yeah. Ha ha ha. Alex: Yeah. Aaron: Yeah, yes, yes. That's a tough one with those with those hotels. Yeah. Good. Alex: Well so ⁓ Monty, any like last words of wisdom, ideas, things for for any of the listeners out there who might be struggling or starting their own journey? Monty: I Yeah, I think i it just as long as you're doing something. I mean for me, you know, I I like the the quote that Aaron, you know, quotes a lot about, you know, I'll do anything for my kids, but you're not doing anything for your health to be here for your kids or in my case grandkids and I don't have a new grandson. ⁓ it's it's you know, wanting just to have good, better quality of life, right? ⁓ because I look and see what what ⁓ poor health can do and how debilitating it can it can be for individuals. And I'm 57, ⁓ like I said, yeah, I started with a GLP one, but I knew that there were other things that I needed to do and be consistent at if I wanted to to maintain it for the long term, right? Not just lose a bunch of weight and then six months later have all that weight come back. You know? So that's why I've tried to put to create a routine. Aaron: Yeah. Gain it all back. Yep. Monty: ⁓ and why I track everything that I that I eat, you know, every single literally every single day. And so every time I'm taking a picture of my food, like, ⁓ you posting that on Instagram? Like, ⁓ no. I'm just tracking to see how many calories I've and how much protein I'm getting. I said, ⁓ maybe t maybe three years ago I was or I I will if I wanna send it in our brothers chat, you know, or something like that. But I'm not you know, so that's like I I get that all the time. ⁓ what you gonna do? Post it. And the other thing I was just gonna say w that I think is it's kind of interesting. It's like Aaron: Nope. Yeah. Exactly. Yeah. Yes. Yeah. Monty: Even with guys, you know, it's like I've had I've had a couple of co week workers that have like, ⁓ you know, I noticed you lost away, but I didn't really want to say anything and and it's just like I just find it's kind of, you know, kind of odd, you know, kind of the society that we live in, you know, sometime that that ⁓ we don't wanna have those conversations. I don't know, maybe it's 'cause we're men. I d I don't know. But but it's like I've had Aaron: Those It's it's men, but also like I think there's just something of like ⁓ there's something about like, yes, I I am acknowledging that you used to be fat and people don't wanna have to yeah, people don't wanna have to do that. Alex: Be fat. Yeah. Monty: Exactly. Right. Yeah. No, I and I and I get that. But it's just kinda 'cause I have had a qu quite a few employees that have that have that have brought that, you know, it's like, ⁓ man, ⁓ Alex: Right. Aaron: Have they a have they asked you what you've been doing or anything like that? Like Monty: ⁓ yeah, well I and I yeah, and I've I always w well, they're with me when I'm taking pictures. So they all know now when I'm taking pictures what I'm why while I'm doing it. And so Yes. I don't understand what's going on. So yeah, so I think that's just my message is that hey, let's we can all you know, and we grew up in a household of, you know, with a with a dad that was all about, you know, health, right? And and, you know, different ways of of Aaron: ⁓ why you're doing it? Yeah. They're like, but why are you naked, Monty? Alex: Ha ha ha Monty: of doing that and obviously there's probably, you know, some some better ways when you're not taking fan fen and and things like that, but but but ⁓ that are no longer approved by the FDA. But ⁓ boy, they worked really well, let me tell you, and you got a lot of energy out you know, out of it. So I did Yeah. Yeah. So I I think no matter what you just as long as you're trying something, I mean, for me it's to better to better my health, to better myself, to Aaron: Yeah. Alex: Yes. Aaron: That won't give you a hunter tech? Yeah. Man. Math turns out to be a great way to lose druight lose weight. Alex: Ha ha ha Yeah. Monty: you know, and and knowing that the weight will come off. And I think sometimes what I also get in my head, ⁓ my gosh, I'm still two fifteen, right? But I've lost an addition another pant size. And so because because I'm thinking because we're quantifying everything in how many pounds have I lost? ⁓ but you can look great you know, maybe at one ninety five, you know, I hey, you know what? I look great, and my you know, my belly looks where where I w you know, just everything is proportional, looks great. ⁓ Aaron: Sure, yep. Sure. Yep. Monty: And and to be good with that, you know, and to to know, hey, there there's you know, that's just kind of my health journey, you know, for now and ⁓ what's that's what works for me and may not work for for someone else, but you know, at least I can share what what I've been doing and and ⁓ kinda what I do. Aaron: Yeah. I and the thing is is like find out what works for you. That's what we talk about. That's what we preach all the time. Like you don't have to do what Alex is doing. You don't have to do what I'm doing. You don't have to do what Monty's doing. But figure out something that works for you. Like, and then stick to it. Alex: Because each individual knows what they want to look like. Each like each person knows like what their what their goals are. Awesome. Well, hey, Monty, thank you so much for joining us today. And ⁓ we will chat with everyone next week. Go be unsexy, everybody.
