Transcript
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Hello everyone, welcome into Hey Hannah I'm your host, Hannah Ostov Krause.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: Why do I say my name still?
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Why do I do that?
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: I've heard other podcasts talk about how they don't know how to start a podcast, and every time I hear it, I'm like, thank you.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: My brain makes it way more awkward than it is.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: When I listen to other people start a podcast, I'm like, that's not awkward at all.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: But for some reason, when I do it, I'm like, freak, she's a freak alert.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Anyways, hello, welcome.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: I hope everyone's having a great week.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Happy Halloween week.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: I know some people are huge fans of Halloween.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Other people are not so much.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Me, I'm I'm right in the middle.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: I used to hate it because I hated the pressure of dressing up.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Do you guys remember how intense it was in college?
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: For me, college was like peak Halloween pressure.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: If Halloween landed on a Thursday, you'd have a party on Thursday night, then one on Friday night because it's the weekend, and then Saturday night because it's also the weekend, and you had to wear three different costumes each time.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Why was that a thing?
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: And now it's totally different.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Now it's like nobody really even does anything.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: They just post about it on Instagram.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Like everybody takes one big photo on Instagram about it.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: So I say I'm right in the middle because I just don't care about the costumes anymore.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: But I'm actually so excited to dress Andy.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Like, how cute is it to dress a baby for Halloween?
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: I felt a little internal pressure about this year because I was like, wait, this is the only year she's gonna be like this little.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: I have to make it really cute.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: And it's like, Hannah, shut up.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: She's not gonna do anything.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Like, she's gonna go to bed at seven o'clock.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: She's nowhere to be, nothing to do.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Uh, but Peter does have a Halloween event every year.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: So we like to dress up for that event.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: So I'm dressing her up for that one.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: But like, that's it.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: You know, nothing else.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: The pressure only lives in my head.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: But I remember at work, people would dress up for Halloween at the workplace every day.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: And now I think that's so fun.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: I used to be like, oh my God, I do not want to put a costume on to go to work, like, too cool for school.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: I take myself so seriously, blah, blah, blah.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: And now I'm like, no, no, please wear a hot dog costume to the office.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Please wear a full corn uniform to the office.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: There's no better way to live life on a Friday.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: Halloween's on Friday, right?
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Hold on.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: I have to look.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Oh no, it's on Saturday, duh.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: That's what all the kids are talking about.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: It's on the best day of the week possible.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Although Sunday will be nice too.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Anyways, happy Halloween week to everyone.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: I was trying to think of something festive to talk about this week.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: And then I was like, Eureka, at 35 years old, there are so many more things that scare me than the spookiness of Halloween.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: And I'm not talking about the serious stuff because, like, why would I ever in a million years talk about the serious stuff?
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: I'm talking about the ridiculousness of adulthood.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Like when you're sitting on the couch and you just sat down and the house is finally quiet, and you have a moment to yourself, and you're sitting on your phone, you're just about to like catch up on your crap, you know?
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: You're just about to do some scrolling.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: And nobody knows what's going on between you and your phone.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: You're just about to sit there and disassociate, right?
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: And then you get a phone call.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: And you're like, you sit there and you're like, oh, do I answer this?
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: I technically have time because I just sat down, but I don't want to answer this because I just sat down and I'm in my nonverbal stage.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: Or like realizing I have to make dinner every night for the rest of my life.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Especially now that I'm a mom.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: I have to make dinner.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: Now I like to make dinner, but like every night, I have to plan what we're eating tonight and tomorrow and the next day for every night for the rest of my life.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Living alone, I used to just sometimes have what they call the girl dinner.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: And I love that people coined that and made that a thing because that has existed since the dawn of time.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Do you guys remember watching all the rom-coms when we were younger?
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Made in Manhattan.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: She sits and has like a little TV dinner.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Or what's that movie with Sandra Bullock that I love?
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: She's a single girl and she has cats.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: It's a Christmas movie and she lies about her boyfriend to be with the family.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: While you were sleeping.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: While you were sleeping, she sits and has like a very strange dinner by herself with her cat.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Everyone does it.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: So yes, I thought it'd be a fun episode to talk about some of our personal haunted house experiences as a woman in your 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, however old you are listening to this.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: By the way, just to keep it totally real with you guys, I'm currently in my haunted house right now because my baby is screaming, awake.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: I already put her to sleep and she is awake for some reason an hour after I put her to sleep.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: So Peter's handling it, but I can hear it.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: I can hear her.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: I can hear what's happening.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: So yes, today we're talking about the truly terrifying things in life.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Nothing too deep.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: Just a little like Halloween spooky girl talk.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Okay, but before that, quick personal life update.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: I did a little Ask Me Anything on Instagram, and I got a few questions about the new house.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: So Peter and I bought a house.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: I'm so excited.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: This is his first house, my first house, obviously our first house together, first family house.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of first happening in my life.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: Like, holy crap.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: Sometimes I'm like, let's pump the brakes.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: But I'm like, no, no, it's all good stuff.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Happy problems, you know?
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: My mom always says that expression.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: When you have a lot going on and you feel a little bit overwhelmed, you just have to sometimes remember it's happy problems.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: So, yes, doing all the paperwork, getting all our ducks in a row, knowing that we are moving soon and we're gonna have a lot of moving parts because we've been a little bit all over the place this summer.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Happy problems, you know?
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: We're staying in the general greater Madison area.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: I'm so excited.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: We're moving to a part of town that's just closer to everything that I love.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: And it took us a really long time to find a home.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: We were looking at so many different neighborhoods, and we want a good school system, and you want to be close to parks, but you want to be close to the gyms and the coffee shops and all of the stuff.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: It's like every time you go house shopping, you know that there's certain things you're gonna walk away with that aren't checked off your list.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: You have a perfect list, but you're not gonna hit all of it.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: There's gonna be a few things that aren't in the first house.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: And we saw this house, we walked into it, and I think we had been looking in this neighborhood for a while.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: Peter and I had drove through this neighborhood at one point and we sort of wrote it off.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: Like we were like, no, we don't want to be in this spot, you know, whatever.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: Forgot about it, looked at a bunch of different homes throughout the summer.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: And then we saw there was an open house in that neighborhood.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: So we went in and it was just like the minute we walked into this house, we were like, oh, this is it.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: I can't even tell you why, but we both were like, this house is everything.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it takes you looking at other options to be like, oh, wait, that thing that we thought we didn't want is actually perfect for us.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: You know how that happens in life, where sometimes you walk away from something and you're like, I don't think I want that.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: And then you go and look at a bunch of other options, so much so that you forgot about what you looked at first.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: And then you look at the first thing again and you're like, wait a minute, I like this now.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: It's like the montage where the girl puts on one outfit and then she gets ready 400 different times, changes her outfit, and then she goes back to the original one and she's like, I think I like this one the most.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm talking about.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: That's what it felt like.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: Even though we had never been in the house before.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Like, just that first time walking in, we were like, wait, why did we write off this neighborhood, this area?
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: So, anyways, all that being said, we're very excited to finally have a place of our own.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: I'm so excited to finally give Andy her first personalized room.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: We have not been able to like really make a full nested lived-in space for her since she was born.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: We've been so blessed to stay with family and friends, and like I can't even sing my gratitude loudly enough.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: I feel so grateful for this past year and the family and friends who have showed us support in so many ways.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: The village, the village.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: Like, it really is so true.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: It takes a freaking village, and it has been so real for us this past year, and Andy's first seven months of being in this world from renting and staying with family and all of it.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: And so many friends have just become family these past few months with all of the new changes in our lives.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: So I we're just so freaking grateful.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: And I'm just so excited.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: I'm so excited.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: I have all these ideas to give Andy a room.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: It's funny, I actually don't care about anything else in the house except for Andy's room and like where her playroom stuff is gonna be, you know?
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: Basically, where I'm gonna be spending all of my time perfecting it is her room.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: I now understand why so many people like leave their bedroom to be last on the makeover to-do list because that's how it feels.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: Peter and I look at the rooms and we look at the things we want to do to them when we have a long list.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: And then we get to our bedroom and we're like, yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: Who cares?
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: None of that matters.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: I just felt like in the housing process this time around, especially as like our first home as a family.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: I wanted the practical stuff.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: There's certain parts of the house where it's like, oh, that's gonna be really small and that's gonna be tight.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, I actually don't care.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: I really don't care.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: Like, there's only certain things I care about.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: I wanted practical things for our life with Andy and with a dog.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: And with being in the part of town that we are in the most, like just things like that.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: Your own life is always gonna be so different than these like picture perfect homes that you see on Instagram that have the most beautiful, huge kitchen islands and you walk through an alley pantry, like little closet for your coffee maker, like all these things that I was like, wow, we should do this or we should get that.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: And then you get the house and you're like, oh, I don't need any of that stuff.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: I don't need all of these things I thought I needed because you're so happy with the practicality of what's in front of you.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: I used to be like, oh, I want a big bathtub.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: And now I'm like, I don't need a bathtub.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: It doesn't matter.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: Like, please, I when do I take a bath?
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: I take a bath maybe like three times a year.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: I've never taken a bath more than when I was pregnant, by the way.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: I took one like every night.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: That being said, I don't freaking need it.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: There, there's another bathtub in the house somewhere.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: Like, that's fine.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: I don't need our own personal bathtub.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: Prioritizing what we need as a family and what Andy needs is really all that matters to me right now.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: So, yes, that is the housing update.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: Hold on, I'm gonna go back to my questions because I want to make sure I got everything that I said I was gonna talk about on the podcast.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: Oh, I had a few questions about baby sleep.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: Um somebody asking about the sleep schedule for the baby and then like overall nighttime sleep updates.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: You guys, I'm you're probably so freaking sick of hearing this.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: And trust me, nobody's more sick of it than me.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: I can't believe this is still part of my life.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: When I tell people my baby's not sleeping through the night at seven months, they're like, oh, they look at me with like, oh, you're in it.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: Like you're in the thick of it.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, yeah, I've been here.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: I feel like my eye is twitching when I say that.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: When people ask me how I'm sleeping, I visualize Cynthia from Rugrats.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: Do you guys remember Angelica's doll?
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: Why is that a visual in my head?
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: I have no idea.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: But that's how I feel in postpartum with no sleep.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: I feel like I look like Cynthia with five pieces of hair sticking straight up.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: One eye is bigger than the other permanently.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: Okay, but my sleep schedule for the baby actually just shifted to two naps a day.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: And so far, this is kind of working.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: But we're only on like day two of doing this, so it's hard to tell.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: Peter and I actually contacted a local sleep specialist because yes, we are that desperate.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: And I have a big call with her later this week.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: So I'll have more information about what the heck I'm doing wrong then.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: But in the meantime, she gave me like a little mini packet to look at for this week to just get me through this week for our next conversation.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: Anyways, my whole point is she told me I need to switch from three naps a day to two naps a day, which I thought was a really big deal.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: So far, we've done it semi-successfully.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: I'm having to like lay with her in that second nap, but it is what it is.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: I'll take what I can get.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: Right now, she's napping in the morning and then one in the afternoon.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: And then the goal, the the gold standard is the seven to seven sleep.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: And to answer the questions about the nighttime sleep, we're still struggling.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: Like somebody wrote, It's killing me.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: Like, help, I need your thoughts.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: I just have to say I'm with you.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: I don't even know what to say anymore.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: I feel a little crazy.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: And part of it is majorly my fault.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: Like, I cannot decide what's best for her.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: I feel really guilty when she's crying.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: I want to hold her, I want to help her, but then I feel guilty when I'm doing that because I feel like that's not helping her the best.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: It's just like a vicious cycle.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: I don't know how to get out of it.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: I feel like with age, this will change.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: And I know I just need to stick to my guns and choose a method and stick to that.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: But this is partially why I reached out to a sleep specialist because Andy has had some like major gut issues.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: She had some vomiting issues with food and like possible F pies.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: Whatever.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: I'm not even I won't even get into it.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: But like all of this stuff that has made me hyper focused on her digestion and her eating.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: Therefore, I'm like picking her up sometimes at night when I shouldn't be picking her up because I'm having to check on whether or not she pooped her pants.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: I just get nervous about different methods and what is ultimately best for us.
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: And I get a little wishy-washy with them.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: So I know that I'm in the way here, but I genuinely don't know what works best.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: Sometimes I feel like it works best when I just hold her, rock her to sleep.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: And other times I'm like, no, it's best that she learns independent sleep and she needs to cry it out.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: And that right there is the problem that I can't decide.
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: So I'll have an update for you, hopefully, later in the week when I've talked to a professional about our exact situation and what is working best.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: But for all the mobs out there who are doing this too, like, you are not alone.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: You, you, I am you are not alone.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: It's terrible.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: It is truly painful in the mornings when you wake up and you feel like you just got like ran over by a bus because you're like, I think I slept maybe three hours broken up in very small intervals.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: And then you do that seven days a week for months.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: And you forget what it feels like to enjoy things.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: Like, I fully get it.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: It becomes a crazy cycle.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: I start to argue with everyone about everything.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: I start to mentally disappear during the day.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: I'm like on another planet.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: You're talking to me, and I'm nodding and I'm smiling, but I'm not there.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: I'm not listening.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: I don't even know where I am anymore.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: It totally eats at you.
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: But Peter and I have like now we have like a handful of good nights each week.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: Not fully sleeping through the night.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: That's only happened twice.
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: But like nights where I'm like, okay, I got I got a decent amount of hours, enough where I don't feel cross-eyed.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: Now let's get into the spooky horrors of adulthood.
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: I feel like I should say of womanhood.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: Like, this is specific to the girls.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: And I'm just gonna ask the internet what these horrors are, and we can read through them together and decide how worthy they are of being in this list.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: I'm pulling up a list of 25, okay?
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: 25 horrors of adulthood.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: Just completely normal situations that are somehow also just terrifying.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, my baby keeps rolling on her stomach.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: By the way, this is one of them.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: I'm in it.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: I'm still in it.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: I'm still in my haunted house.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: Oh no, she can't roll over.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: Oh, she got it.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: Yay, good job, peanut.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: She has no idea I'm watching her.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: She's so mad at me.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: So mad at me right now.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: Okay, first horror.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: This one is so real.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: The let's go around the room and share a fun fact about ourselves.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: This is so real because, like, suddenly I've never done anything interesting in my life.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: What do you mean?
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: What do you guys say when that comes around?
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: I fall back on one ridiculous fun fact, which nobody cares about.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: Are you ready for this?
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: I tell everyone that I went to the same summer camp as heavyweights, the movie from the 1990s.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: It's true, I did.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: The camp was like a very traditional, normal boys and girls summer camp.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: It was not what it was in the movie at all.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: A, nobody cares about this fun fact.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: It does not land.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: And B, nobody even knows the movie.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: Only a small niche of people know this movie reference anymore.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: But, anyways, but share a fun fact about yourselves.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: Like, no, actually, no, thank you.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: I I have I have to go.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: I have to leave.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: My fun fact is that I have no fun facts.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: My fun fact is that I have a doctor's appointment right now, actually, and I need to go.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: Okay, number two, being the first person to arrive at a party.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, so funny.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: I don't actually think that that one's terrible.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: Yes, it's it's certainly awkward.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay, maybe it is bad now that I'm thinking about it.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: It's certainly awkward because you have to just be like, wow, the place looks great.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: But then you get to talk to the host for a little bit, which isn't bad.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: You get some one-on-one time with the host before the party gets really crazy.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: That being said, this almost has never happened to me because I'm routinely late.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: But yeah, you sort of have to do that thing where you just like stand there alone pretty awkwardly and pretend you're fascinated by decorations.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: I feel like if you have a job where you have to travel and network a lot and go to conferences, like you know what it's like to be totally alone and not know anyone in a room, in a crowded room.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: So it's like you might be okay with it.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: But yeah, there's certain times where you do this and you're just like, oh my God.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: What I actually hate is when you go to a party that somebody invited you to and you get there before your friend does.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: So it's like you walk into a place where you actually don't know anyone, and then nobody knows you, and then they're like, Who are you?
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: What are you doing at my house?
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: You're like, uh, sorry.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: I remember that happened to me when I joined a virtual book club.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: Like the person who invited me missed that day.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: Oh my God, no, it wasn't a virtual book club.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: You guys, it was a virtual Bible study.
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: A virtual Bible study.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: And thank God I ended up becoming such good friends with the girls in the group, truly.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: I I love them for the rest of my life.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: But the first time I joined the book club, my mutual friend didn't go.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: So I just showed up on his Zoom call with like three other girls, and they had no idea who I was.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: And I was like, Oh, hi, um, sorry, I'm Kendra's friend.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: So awkward.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: They were like, oh, welcome.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: We like laugh about it now, but what the heck?
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: Okay, so yeah, I would say being the first to arrive in any situation like that, definitely up there.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: Number three, saying, Oh, we should get together soon, and then the person pulls out their calendar.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: This is so real.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: You want actual plans?
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: Like, I was just being polite.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: I don't know what I'm doing next Wednesday, but like I don't know.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: I probably don't want to do anything.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: Like, what time works for you not next Friday, but the following?
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: No time?
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: What do you mean?
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: I don't know what I'm doing that day.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: I I'm I'm too overwhelmed to even think about what I'm doing two weeks from now in this in this drive-by shooting.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: When this happens, there is a 99% chance that I am canceling two days before we get together.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: Out of pure stress about the concept of doing something out of my routine.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: Not even because I'm fully unavailable, but because my brain tells me I'm unavailable.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: Like my brain is like, no, Henny, you can't do that.
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: There's actually too much going on that day.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: It'll be too stressful for you to go to that side of town and do that thing.
- 21:18SPEAKER_00: Like 50-50 chance, I write a text shortly thereafter and just say, like, hey, actually, I can't make that.
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: It's tough.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: It's tough.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, what number am I on?
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: Wait, I'm only on number four?
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: I'm moving way too slow.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's see.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: The next one is a dressing room with fluorescent lighting and a three-way mirror.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: No.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: No, you can't make me.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: You really can't make me.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: Especially postpartum.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: Like, no.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: I don't know why when I read that I think of Zara.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: Whoever is designing the dressing rooms in Zara, it's always like a curtain, too, that I am desperately trying to close, and I know.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: It's not fully closed.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: I get to the point where I'm just like, I don't even care, whatever.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: But the three-way mirror and the fluorescent lighting is what actually makes me never go into store again.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: I don't ever need to see myself from those angles in that lighting.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: It's just ignorance is bliss.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: Ignorance is bliss.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: Number five, opening your front-facing camera by accident.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: This is so good.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: Um, especially from below.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't know her.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: I don't know who she is.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: I've never seen her before.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: She doesn't belong on my phone.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: This actually happened to me in a moment that I think about constantly.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't know why this cracks me up.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: But I was in a control room full of like 20 people.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: It was one of those shows where everybody was packed into the control control room and watching something.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: I don't remember what we were doing, but it was like the end of one of our shows.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: And I went to go take a photo of what was happening on all of our monitors in front of us.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: And I'm like in front of the control room.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: And I held my phone up, and of course, it only showed my face.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: The first, you know, when I hit the camera icon, it only showed my face.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: And everybody behind me saw and everybody was laughing at me.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: I just remember my face looking so horrendous because I was so focused on what I was doing.
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: And it's just like, ugh, why does that happen?
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: Why does it happen to us?
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: It's so humbling.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: I see a lot of TikToks too about moms who are having their morning coffee and they're hanging on by a wire and they see themselves in the reflection of those toy mirrors.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: Like it's the same thing.
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: That's totally the same thing.
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: Okay, six, having to decide what's for dinner every night for the rest of your life.
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: We talked about this at the top of the episode.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: We literally ate dinner yesterday.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: What are you talking about?
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: You're telling me I have to do this again.
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: Sometimes I'll prep a lavish dinner, and then the next night it's like, um, we're eating something frozen.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: Chicken and rice.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: Peter and I are really big on chicken and rice.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: No matter what, chicken and rice always works.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: You can add anything with it: pickled onions, some cucumbers, barbecue sauce, spicy mayo.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: Like, you can pull out any weird condiments or vegetables that is always gonna work with chicken and rice.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: I think I'm on number six.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, I don't know.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: I'm reading these in a way that aren't numbered.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: I'm losing track.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: So forgive me.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: Uh, number six, finding a spider in your house, then losing sight of it.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: I don't know why spiders don't actually bother me that much.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: Like, do I want them dead?
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: Of course.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: But cockroaches are actually way worse to me.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: I don't think I've ever seen a cockroach in Wisconsin, so I'm not worried about it.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: But life in Florida or in New York City, like that was the pits.
- 24:44SPEAKER_00: If you saw a cockroach, it was like, ugh, game over.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: Game over.
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: Number seven, accidentally liking someone's Instagram photo from 2017.
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: Stop.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: Does this still happen?
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: It's like, no, you were just doing a little research.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: You didn't mean to.
- 25:00SPEAKER_00: It's now everything is exposed.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: You know what's actually worse than this?
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: This is like the 2026 version of this is accidentally reposting something.
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: Sometimes I'll see on my Instagram post, like somebody that I went to high school with, like, reposted it, and I'm like, oh my God, that was an accident.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: I know that was an accident.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: Nobody is out here reposting each other's stuff on purpose.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: One of my best friends actually accidentally reposted a few like page six headlines, and it was cracking me up.
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: They were like Bravo news updates.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: I was like, why did you repost this?
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: I said it to her.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: She's like, oh my God, kill me.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: I feel like that's the new version of this.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, number eight, sending a screenshot to the person you screenshotted.
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: Okay, we've all done it.
- 25:47SPEAKER_00: We've all done it.
- 25:48SPEAKER_00: There is literally no recovery from this.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: You simply just like have to relocate.
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: You have to move.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: I have a horror story about this, actually.
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: This happened to me once.
- 26:01SPEAKER_00: This is so bad.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: This is so bad because it involves work, which is the worst thing.
- 26:08SPEAKER_00: I was with my younger cousin in downtown West Palm Beach, and we were just having one of those nights where we just like had a photo shoot.
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: We put on a cute outfit.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: We took a ton of pictures in these outfits.
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: It was that era, it was that time.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: I have no excuse for what I was doing.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: I don't even know why I was taking so many pictures.
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: Whatever.
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: We take about 20 pictures, right?
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, I'm in a group text with all of the men from CBS Sports because I had just started working there.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: They're texting about something, some game that's happening that I'm not paying attention to and that I have to report about the next day.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: My cousin says, Hey, can you send me the pictures of us?
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: I say, sure.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: Instead of sending it to her, you guessed it.
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: I sent it to the group chat.
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: No, and then the craziest part about this is I didn't even realize I did that.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: I got a text from one of the guys in the group chat being like, Hey, did you mean to send that?
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: Oh my God, that by the way, that is the horror story.
- 27:09SPEAKER_00: That is the haunted house.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: Somebody texting you saying, Hey, did you mean to post that?
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: Hey, did you mean to send that text?
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: You're like, oh my God, oh my god, oh my god, what?
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: So yeah, so that's when I realized that I accidentally sent uh 20 Instagram option photos, you know, like the worst case scenario, to a group of 40-year-old men who I work with professionally who didn't even know me on a personal level yet.
- 27:35SPEAKER_00: Kill me.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: Kill me.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: Horrendous.
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: There was no recovery.
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: I had to own it.
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: I think I said something like, Well, which photo do you guys like best?
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: I need to decide.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: And then I like made a joke and was like, clearly, this was not meant for you.
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: I apologize.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: Something, something, something.
- 27:55SPEAKER_00: I just feel like when something like that happens, you have to own it.
- 27:58SPEAKER_00: It reminds me of when I accidentally said I love you when getting off the phone with my boss.
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: You know, I'm just like, bye, love you, bye.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: Why do I why?
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: Why do I say that?
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: I had to call him back and be like, I'm so sorry.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: I don't think we're there yet in our relationship.
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: I apologize.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: Just like made a joke out of it because, like, what?
- 28:15SPEAKER_00: How?
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: How does that happen?
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: Oh, what number am I on?
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: Number nine.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: Okay, number nine.
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: Someone texting you saying, Can I ask you something?
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: No.
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: Horrendous.
- 28:26SPEAKER_00: The worst is when they do that and then they disappear.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: I actually think that that is such a tactic.
- 28:31SPEAKER_00: Okay, number 10 is way worse.
- 28:33SPEAKER_00: This is when somebody texts you saying, call me.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: I hit the panic button.
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: How do you not?
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: Like, how do you not?
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: Number 11, your phone saying that your storage is full.
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: No, because how am I supposed to go through all of my photos and decide which one is important?
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: That's for plain rides only.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: I have to go through my text messages and delete conversations.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: Like, uh, who has the time?
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: Who has the time?
- 28:59SPEAKER_00: This one's funny.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: Number 12.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: Am I on number 12?
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: You guys, I'm making up my numbers.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: I have no idea.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: Hearing a song from high school on the grocery store's oldies playlist.
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: This is so specific.
- 29:11SPEAKER_00: I actually love this one.
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: I don't find this haunted at all.
- 29:14SPEAKER_00: But there is a part of me that hears a song from 2009.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, excuse me, this why is this an oldies?
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: This came out four years ago.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: What are you talking about?
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: And yes, it's Jason Braz.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: Or yes, it's Your Body's Wonderland by John Mayer.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: I hear anything from John Mayer's first album or Jason Braz, and I'm like, oh, oh my gosh.
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: I was just listening to this three years ago.
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: Number 13, being invited somewhere that starts at 9 p.m.
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: No, please.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: This doesn't even happen.
- 29:48SPEAKER_00: That's when I go to bed.
- 29:49SPEAKER_00: I I want to be invited everywhere, but I'm not going.
- 29:53SPEAKER_00: I'm not going if it starts past 7 p.m.
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: period.
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: But like invite me though, you know?
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: Next one.
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: Having to call your insurance company.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: Duh, please.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: I'm about to lose 90 minutes of my life.
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna speak to four different people and explain my situation from the beginning.
- 30:12SPEAKER_00: No, thank you.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: Another one, this is so good.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: Having to sing happy birthday to someone at a restaurant.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, this is so real.
- 30:22SPEAKER_00: Where do I look?
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: Do I clap?
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: Like, why are we all singing at different octaves?
- 30:30SPEAKER_00: At different speeds.
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: And then sometimes it gets to the name and it's like your aunt, and you're like, Do I say aunt or do I say her only name?
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: Like, what do I, you know what I mean?
- 30:40SPEAKER_00: How do I navigate this?
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: It's so awkward.
- 30:42SPEAKER_00: I just think the best thing you have to do is own it completely.
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: Just be loud and proud, off pitch, scream whatever name comes out first, and just roll with it.
- 30:50SPEAKER_00: The loudness is what makes it fun.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: What's actually worse is the person who's everyone is singing to, because then you really just have to not participate.
- 30:59SPEAKER_00: You really have to be like, oh my god, me?
- 31:03SPEAKER_00: Terrible.
- 31:04SPEAKER_00: Terrible.
- 31:04SPEAKER_00: This is funny.
- 31:05SPEAKER_00: One of them is accidentally saying, love you at the end of a professional phone call.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: I just talked about that story.
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: Like, why?
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: Has anyone else done that?
- 31:13SPEAKER_00: Is it just me?
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: It was my boss in like my very first job, so it wasn't a big deal.
- 31:18SPEAKER_00: I was one of like three employees at the time, but still, I just it made me sound like such a 20-year-old idiot.
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: But like, whatever.
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: Now, if that happened to me, I think it'd be so funny.
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, sneezing while pregnant.
- 31:32SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 31:33SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: You have no option but to just hold on for dear life.
- 31:40SPEAKER_00: When other one buying expensive furniture online, you know what?
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: It should just say buying furniture, period.
- 31:47SPEAKER_00: It is so much work to buy furniture.
- 31:49SPEAKER_00: The first time you like adult and get your own place, you're like, oh my god, I just want to like get a new couch and it'll be so fun to do this.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: And then, like, the older you get, the more you have to do it.
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: And you're like, oh, I have to go buy something.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: I have to go buy furniture.
- 32:04SPEAKER_00: It just seems like a task, like a big to-do.
- 32:07SPEAKER_00: You're gonna spend three weeks researching a sofa.
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: You're finally gonna order it.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: And then you're gonna spend the next six weeks wondering if you made a big mistake.
- 32:17SPEAKER_00: And then you get it and you're like, is this beige or is this gray?
- 32:20SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't even know.
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: But yeah, just like the process in general of buying furniture, it gets harder and harder as you get older because we're getting more and more particular.
- 32:29SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I don't want my back to hurt when I sit on the couch.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: Like, what?
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: When I first bought a couch in my 20s, I did not even think about my back.
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: Okay, I'm doing a few more here.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: I've totally lost track of my numbers.
- 32:39SPEAKER_00: I'm so sorry.
- 32:40SPEAKER_00: I don't think I've made it to 25.
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: Having to introduce two people whose names you've forgotten.
- 32:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, kill me.
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: I know both of them.
- 32:48SPEAKER_00: I I've known them for years.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: I I think I know their names, but I'm not entirely sure.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: And suddenly every name I've ever learned has left my brain.
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: I can't remember for the life of me.
- 33:01SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, another one.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: Getting stuck in a conversation with someone that doesn't ask questions back.
- 33:07SPEAKER_00: My gosh, this one is funny to me because I actually don't think it's that bad.
- 33:10SPEAKER_00: I don't know why this one does not pain me that much.
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: I think I would rather be asking questions than answering them sometimes.
- 33:18SPEAKER_00: But it would be awkward if the person is only giving very mute short answers.
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: Okay, another one.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: The goodbye that lasts 45 minutes.
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: Oh, hello, Wisconsin.
- 33:28SPEAKER_00: This is so, so Midwest.
- 33:30SPEAKER_00: It's taken me a long time to get used to this.
- 33:33SPEAKER_00: It's like you've announced you're leaving, we know you're leaving.
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: We've gathered all of your belongings, you're standing at the door, and somehow we're having an entirely new conversation about what we're gonna eat for dinner next time we get together.
- 33:45SPEAKER_00: And it doesn't even end there.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: Then you walk to the car door and the conversation starts talking about someone's high school football game.
- 33:53SPEAKER_00: I swear it is such a Midwestern thing.
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: They call it the Wisconsin goodbye.
- 33:58SPEAKER_00: It's very endearing, it really is.
- 34:02SPEAKER_00: But sometimes I'm like, okay, okay, I gotta go.
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: We gotta go.
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: Okay, and I'm adding two to this list because after looking this up online, I feel like two of the biggest ones are not on here, buddy.
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: Bachelorette parties, period.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: I hate them.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: I'm so sorry if you are throwing a big one.
- 34:24SPEAKER_00: If you love them, I do not want to yuck your yums because I have some really close girlfriends who absolutely love them and some friends who had really good bachelorette parties that I went to, like had a great time.
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: But in my 30s, I don't want to go.
- 34:40SPEAKER_00: I really don't.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: I never wanted to go in my 20s.
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: I just loved my friends so much that I went.
- 34:45SPEAKER_00: But like, I'm so over the everybody wear this color and I'm gonna wear this color, or like, we're gonna dress up as this one night and I'm gonna do this the other night.
- 34:53SPEAKER_00: Like, no, no.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: I want to go back to the 90s, the 80s, where our parents didn't do bachelor parties and they just got drinks in their hometown a few nights before the wedding.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: They just like called their girlfriends and were like, hey, let's all go to so-and-so bar like three nights before my wedding because we're all in town.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: That's how it should be.
- 35:15SPEAKER_00: It shouldn't be such a big rah-rah.
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: Oh my God.
- 35:18SPEAKER_00: I feel like I could do a totally different episode on all of the reasons why I feel like we have gotten way out of hand with those things.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: But, anyways, that's another personal horror story.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: It's like, don't invite me to your bachelor party, truly.
- 35:30SPEAKER_00: I will do anything to get out of it.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: Just being totally honest.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: And last but certainly not least, another top one for me is splitting the bill at a gigantic dinner.
- 35:40SPEAKER_00: I can't tell you how often this happened to me in New York City.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: I actually need like a moment of silence for how awful those moments are.
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: I'm not a big drinker, and somehow I find myself paying for like everybody's alcohol because it's like we're splitting the bill, we're splitting the bill.
- 35:55SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, I did not drink three bottles of rose.
- 35:58SPEAKER_00: Why am I paying for it?
- 35:59SPEAKER_00: It took me a really long time to get out of those situations because I was too polite or like too meek to say something.
- 36:08SPEAKER_00: And now, as a 35-year-old, I'm I will be very quick to be like, oh no, no, no, we can't split this.
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: I didn't, I didn't drink at all.
- 36:15SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna pay for that.
- 36:16SPEAKER_00: I just like announce it as a thing now.
- 36:19SPEAKER_00: But oh my gosh, when that happens, it's like, especially if you don't know a lot of people there, you like cannot be the one person to be like, yeah, I can't do this.
- 36:28SPEAKER_00: This happened to me at a friend's birthday dinner at like she like rented out her own room, and there were all these very important people there.
- 36:39SPEAKER_00: I was a mere peasant compared to the people that were in this room.
- 36:42SPEAKER_00: I guess I'll just say there were just like some, there were some just like autograph-worthy people there, right?
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: I'm a nobody, I'm in this room, and then suddenly the bill gets separated and divided by all of us.
- 36:53SPEAKER_00: And I was like, oh no, I'm gonna die here.
- 36:57SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna die here.
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: I was like, how am I gonna afford this?
- 37:01SPEAKER_00: It was insane.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: But I I love my friend so much.
- 37:05SPEAKER_00: I paid it and went about my week.
- 37:10SPEAKER_00: And I never forgot it.
- 37:12SPEAKER_00: I actually think that was the last time I ever did it because I was like, no, after that, I've retired.
- 37:16SPEAKER_00: I can no longer do the group bill in like a large setting where you're not warned.
- 37:22SPEAKER_00: Anyways, I am totally rambling.
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 37:25SPEAKER_00: I feel like we could keep going with this horror list.
- 37:27SPEAKER_00: This is so fun.
- 37:28SPEAKER_00: I definitely didn't make it to 25, but I'm so sorry.
- 37:30SPEAKER_00: I had hopes and dreams.
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: Luckily, Andy is finally asleep.
- 37:34SPEAKER_00: My my one big haunted house is totally complete.
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: Thank you guys so much for listening.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: I really enjoyed just having fun with these episodes and keeping it light.
- 37:43SPEAKER_00: I hope this made you feel better about whatever completely irrational thing that's been stressing you out lately because I'm with you.
- 37:50SPEAKER_00: There are always ridiculous things that freak us out more than they should.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: So tell me, I actually want to know what is something that freaks you guys out way more than it should.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: Is it on this list?
- 38:01SPEAKER_00: Did I hit it?
- 38:02SPEAKER_00: Is it something so ridiculously normal that you almost don't even want to admit it?
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: I don't care.
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: Send me a message on Instagram because I feel like we can make another entire episode out of your guys' answers.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: But thank you so much for hanging out with me this week.
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: If you enjoyed this episode, send it to a friend who also finds everyday adulthood mildly terrifying.
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: Because we're in it together.
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: But thanks again, guys.
- 38:23SPEAKER_00: Happy Halloween.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: And I'll talk to you next week.
- 38:25SPEAKER_00: Bye for now.
