- 0:23hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:46Hi, it's Adam here. And in this hypnosis session
- 0:50that you're just about to listen to, you're going to be listening
- 0:53to a habit change hypnosis session that was linked to shame
- 0:59and judgement. And I was working with a client
- 1:03that was very shy, very introverted as a child, had a
- 1:08very moral upbringing with religious connotations about
- 1:13what was right and what was wrong, and had an experience
- 1:17around 11 years old that they associated with doing something
- 1:23that they shouldn't, doing something wrong.
- 1:26And because of that, they felt conflicted because a part of
- 1:29them really wanted to do that thing and another part of them
- 1:34felt that it was the wrong thing to do.
- 1:38And for some people, the fact that something is off limits,
- 1:42particularly for a child that's becoming a teenager, can make
- 1:47the thing more appealing. I'm deliberately not saying what
- 1:51The thing is, because it is the kind of thing that a lot of
- 1:57people have value judgments about.
- 1:59What's important here is that a seed of an idea was planted in a
- 2:04young child, effectively 11 years old, that influenced
- 2:09future decisions and became a form of escapism and a form of
- 2:18mental distraction. It would help them deal with
- 2:21things like frustration and boredom.
- 2:24But it came from a good place. It came from a place of wanting
- 2:29to have an outlet for connection and even joy.
- 2:35But it's a synthetic version of that reality.
- 2:37It's not reality itself. And the reason I'm being
- 2:40ambiguous in this one is because if you're listening to this, I
- 2:43want you to think about something that maybe you started
- 2:47when you were younger, you have some kind of link to shame or
- 2:51guilt or judgement to, and that you want to change something
- 2:56about your life. And that way you can listen to
- 2:58this without the blinkered lens of attributing it to something
- 3:04and make it more valuable for you.
- 3:07If this isn't quite right. For whatever habit or addiction
- 3:11or thing that you want to change, there will be a link in
- 3:15the descripcion that can enable you to book a free consultation
- 3:18call to Exlore working with me directly.
- 3:21For now though, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 3:23won't be disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 4:16Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 4:25slow, long, relaxing breath. And as you exhale, just allow
- 4:34any feelings of worry, stress, or tension to feel like it's
- 4:41leaving your body in that outward breath.
- 4:47Breathing and relaxation and exhaling that tension.
- 4:55And notice breath by breath, how it almost feels like you're
- 5:02drifting to a place of safety, calm and relaxation.
- 5:13The deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you become, and the more
- 5:17relaxed you become, the deeper you breathe.
- 5:23Breathing in the resources you need and exhaling any emotions
- 5:30feel like they're holding you back.
- 5:34Feel that. Any shame?
- 5:37Any judgement? It's starting to leave your body
- 5:42in your outward breath. I want you to think of a colour
- 5:50that represents acceptance. Pure distilled self acceptance.
- 6:00Maybe that colour is blue or yellow or green.
- 6:05And imagine breathing in that bright colour of self
- 6:08acceptance, but as you exhale, feel that you are releasing any
- 6:16shame or judgement. Almost like it's dark shadows
- 6:22leaving your body in your outward breath.
- 6:29Consider each breath part of a transfusion, breathing in that
- 6:37self acceptance and exhaling any shame, any judgement.
- 6:47Unless you breathe in that bright colour and exhale those
- 6:50shadows. I want you to start thinking
- 6:55about why someone would feel not good about themself.
- 7:03Irritable, low self esteem. I want you to get a sense that
- 7:13if someone judges themselves harshly, that they're not living
- 7:19up to their high standards. They might be experiencing
- 7:24something like disappointment. They might be ashamed that
- 7:33they're not living up to those high standards, but what if that
- 7:39shame, that judgment, is not justified?
- 7:46As you breathe in and breathe out, I want you to think about
- 7:53why shame and judgment exists in societies all the way back in
- 8:03medieval England. If someone did something that
- 8:09the community the village deemed to be not positive, they would
- 8:18cover that individual in thick black tar and then force them to
- 8:26roll around in feathers of chickens and geese.
- 8:36That public humiliation was designed to do 2 things, a
- 8:43punishment for the individual that fell below the standards of
- 8:50the village or the community. But it was more a warning to the
- 8:57rest of the villagers to let them know what is OK and not OK.
- 9:09I want you to get a sense then. This happened in lots of
- 9:13different communities and some of these communities were
- 9:17religious but not all communities followed the same
- 9:23religion. But the individual was tarred
- 9:28and feathered anyway. Perhaps there was someone in a
- 9:34Viking village, they didn't believe in Thor or Odin, and
- 9:43they were tarred and feathered. People can experience the
- 9:50punishment, even if the crime itself is subjective.
- 9:57And as you hold that thought, I want you to breathe in and
- 10:02breathe out and think of an old Fort, a den hidden somewhere in
- 10:11trees or a forest. But I want you to go back to
- 10:15that time as you currently are. And I want you to imagine
- 10:22watching a younger version of you, perhaps just 11 years old,
- 10:31being introduced to something for the very first time.
- 10:34And I want you to imagine that you are an invisible observer.
- 10:42The younger version of you can't see you, but you can see them.
- 10:50And I want you to see the rich variety of emotions experienced
- 10:57in that moment. Emotions like curiosity,
- 11:04intrigue, fascination, novelty, stimulation, surprise, but
- 11:15perhaps caution, a sense of danger that they were doing
- 11:20something wrong. And I want you to imagine a seed
- 11:26of an idea was planted in that young impressionable mind, a
- 11:37seed of an idea that made something a forbidden fruit.
- 11:45But what if the fact that it was forbidden, not allowed or not
- 11:52available, the very thing that made it so desirable?
- 12:03Breathe in and breathe out and just observe that interaction,
- 12:06that memory, but not reliving the moment, observing the
- 12:10moment. Your current age, watching you
- 12:13as a child experience something for the very first time.
- 12:22I don't want you to imagine seeing that younger version of
- 12:27you when they're on their own. Imagine you're no longer
- 12:34invisible, and I want you to tell that younger version of you
- 12:41that you are them in the future. And of course, I want you to see
- 12:50the face of disbelief, perhaps even trepidation, seeing this
- 12:56older person that they don't know.
- 13:01But I want you to share a secret with the younger version of you
- 13:06that only you both would know, to convince that younger version
- 13:13of you that you are indeed them from the future.
- 13:21And when you've convinced that younger version of them that you
- 13:26are them from the future, let me know by nodding your head.
- 13:39That's it. And I want you to let them know
- 13:45some important information to make this experience no longer a
- 13:55forbidden fruit. You just want to make it
- 13:59something that is a natural part of them growing up, but somehow
- 14:14a stepping stone to real experiences.
- 14:20Tell them it's not wrong, just not useful.
- 14:26And maybe you use an analogy like fast food or candy.
- 14:35It's not wrong to eat lots of candy, it's just not good for
- 14:41your teeth or your health. It's not wrong to eat lots of
- 14:47fast food, but again, not good for your waistline or your
- 14:51health. I want you to communicate that
- 14:56it's not wrong to do this, it's just not useful.
- 15:04It's not the best use of time. If they want stimulation, they
- 15:13can find real experiences. If they want escapism, a good
- 15:19book or a movie will help them escape so much better.
- 15:26And I want you to imagine giving them so much at that young age
- 15:33before hormones had kicked in. Imagine giving that younger
- 15:40version of you limitless amounts of that thing that they wanted
- 15:45but couldn't have and see an opposite occur.
- 15:52That because they can have it, they don't want it.
- 15:59And instead of synthetic fake fantasies, I want you to see
- 16:10that younger version of you craving real experiences.
- 16:19And if you can see that younger version of you where you've
- 16:21planted a new seed of an idea, the forbidden fruit idea has now
- 16:29been replaced with a belief that life is for living and living is
- 16:38real experiences. And if that younger version of
- 16:44you accepts that idea, let me know by nodding your head.
- 16:57And I want you to give this younger version of you with just
- 16:59eleven years old a gift. A gift of your current levels of
- 17:05confidence for the version of you back then.
- 17:15So that shy version of you in childhood as the courage and the
- 17:20confidence to seek out more real experiences.
- 17:27And I want you to imagine this level of confidence as a glowing
- 17:31ball of energy. Just imagine handing that
- 17:33glowing ball of energy to that younger version of them and they
- 17:41pull it close to their heart. They absorb all of that
- 17:43confidence. Say goodbye and then go forwards
- 17:49in time to when you're maybe 16 years old.
- 17:56But I want you to see the consequence of five years of
- 18:00confidence. What has five years of
- 18:05confidence done to that 11 year old when they become 16?
- 18:10So now be the observer, invisible at first of you as a
- 18:1616 year old. Well, you're not quite so shy.
- 18:23You've got more of that confidence, a willingness to
- 18:30prioritize real experiences. And if that version of you with
- 18:41all of that confidence is indeed seeking out more real
- 18:46experiences and less synthetic experiences, let me know by
- 18:49nodding your head. I want you to get a sense then.
- 19:01What if you've been trading and substituting real moments for
- 19:13synthetic escapism, and the consequence of that is that it
- 19:19leads to the very frustration you want to avoid.
- 19:24Imagine going forwards in time and see you in a a new country
- 19:31at a time when you had constant variety stimulation of your
- 19:37brain, your mind, and real human connections.
- 19:42And see when that was the case, the desire for anything
- 19:47synthetic was almost negligible. This becomes evidence.
- 19:58Evidence that that's what you truly crave.
- 20:02Real connection, real variety, real experiences.
- 20:07I want you to get a sense, then a desire to escape.
- 20:13Or self medicate with cheap dopamine is disappearing now.
- 20:23And I want you to imagine all of that shame and judgement is also
- 20:28disappearing. That what someone does in the
- 20:33privacy of their own home is down to them.
- 20:39As long as other people aren't being hurt, no harm is being
- 20:44done. But just because something is
- 20:49acceptable doesn't mean it's desirable.
- 20:57And you might find that as the shame and judgement disappears,
- 21:02so too does the desire. When you can have it whenever
- 21:08you want, don't be surprised if you just don't want it anymore.
- 21:17I want you to imagine drifting in and observing your present
- 21:21self like you're a stranger. And I want you to see a version
- 21:28of you that is prioritizing real experiences, real connection,
- 21:42real moments of stimulation that stimulate you emotionally and
- 21:50intellectually through real things.
- 21:55I want you to think of that country that you got to know a
- 22:05culture, a language, and the people, that if you read a
- 22:11magazine or a book of the same thing, it wouldn't have been an
- 22:15experience. And I wonder what real
- 22:22experiences you'll find a craving for now in your future.
- 22:28See yourself over the next few days and weeks where a desire
- 22:34for something synthetic has been replaced with a desire for real
- 22:40things. Maybe a shared experience with a
- 22:45partner, or maybe the stimulation of your own
- 22:50imagination. But nothing synthetic, nothing
- 22:57experienced through a screen. The screen was only ever a
- 23:04stepping stone to activate your imagination anyway.
- 23:08I want you to get a sense. Then there is a control room in
- 23:17your mind. Just imagine there are two
- 23:22buttons, desire and then what you're desiring.
- 23:33I want you to increase the button for desire and then
- 23:38switch it from synthetic to real.
- 23:42Your desire increases, but your increased desire is now linked
- 23:49to anything real. Real music, real tastes, real
- 23:55sensations. I want you to get a sense that
- 23:59that is your new craving, and the highest craving of all is
- 24:05real connection. Connection can be a
- 24:09conversation, a hug, a kiss, being present and just
- 24:18listening. And if your unconscious is
- 24:24willing to agree that this is what you've been craving all
- 24:29along anyway, let me know by nodding your head.
- 24:36And then it's time to leave this place, this place in your
- 24:40imagination. But you return with the true
- 24:47version of you being awakened. You never wanted to escape.
- 24:54You wanted to explore. And now you have permission to
- 24:59do that. So take a deep breath in through
- 25:03your nose and out through your nose.
- 25:09Just wiggle your fingers and wiggle your toes.
- 25:11Connect and calibrate into the here and the now.
- 25:15That's it. As I now count from 1:00 to
- 25:1710:00 to awaken you. Starting to count 123 waking up
- 25:24456 more alert 7-8. Open your eyes.
- 25:28Open your eyes 910 Wide awake, Wide awake.
- 25:34Wide awake. Thank you for listening to The
