- 0:00Today I'm going to be talking about spirituality.
- 0:02I know what you're thinking already.
- 0:03I don't believe in God. I was brought up Catholic or
- 0:05Christian and fuck all that shit.
- 0:07I don't. God ruined my life or church
- 0:11ruined my life. There's a big difference between
- 0:13spirituality and religion. Religion is for people who are
- 0:17scared to go to hell. Spirituality is for people who
- 0:20have been to hell and don't want to go back.
- 0:22I think you and I have been to hell.
- 0:24If you're anything like me, you've been to hell many times.
- 0:28So what you're going to get out of today's episode is my
- 0:32perception on spirituality and what it does for me.
- 0:36We're going to talk about what is spirituality?
- 0:38What is spirituality in recovery and why is it important in
- 0:41recovery? Spiritual void and addiction.
- 0:44Practical spiritual tools that you can connect with.
- 0:46The power greater than yourself or something greater than you.
- 0:49Spiritual growth through pain and then my personal experience
- 0:54with spirituality, how it's grown from when I first came in
- 0:57to 8 years of recovery to now almost a year again, sober and
- 1:02clean. And then how to build a
- 1:04spiritual practice if you're new.
- 1:05What I hope that you get out of this episode is simply this.
- 1:08I want people. I hope that people see things
- 1:12differently after this. Shift your perspective.
- 1:14Keep an open mind with this episode.
- 1:16OK, I'm going to be saying the word God a lot.
- 1:18And when I say God, I just mean my perception of God, my higher
- 1:23power. I call it God because it's easy.
- 1:25It's a 3 letter word. You can use great outdoors, good
- 1:29orderly direction, group of drunks if you go to recovery
- 1:33meetings. And you use the power of other
- 1:36people, a collective of consciousness as your power,
- 1:40your guiding force. It's simple, It's a guiding
- 1:42force. It's an inner teacher.
- 1:44I believe in every man, woman and child.
- 1:46There is this idea of God, this idea of spirituality.
- 1:51When we're living in addiction, we're just not tapped into it.
- 1:54And I believe that everybody has a longing for this connection.
- 1:59We're just asleep most of the time.
- 2:00So I challenge you, wake up. Conscious contact with a power
- 2:04greater than yourself will do wonders for you in recovery, in
- 2:08life in general. But it has done wonders for me
- 2:11and I'm going to explain how. So again, spirituality is not
- 2:14dogma, it's not religion, it's connection, meaning, and it's
- 2:18things that help us stay grounded when things get loud in
- 2:21life. It's a lighthouse, a North star
- 2:24if you will. Again.
- 2:25Hi I'm Anthony, I'm an addict and alcoholic in recovery.
- 2:28I came into recovery in 2015. I put together 8 years clean and
- 2:32sober. I relapsed after at the year
- 2:35mark went out and did some more research, don't recommend it.
- 2:38Now I'm back, I work at a rehab, I'm an admissions counselor, I
- 2:43am. I also create videos on social
- 2:45media. If you're not following me yet
- 2:47at Recovering Out Loud pod, I do some funny stuff, some tips,
- 2:51some tools, some relatable stuff.
- 2:52Hopefully you get something out of it if you like my content.
- 2:56I am not making any money off this.
- 2:58I do it solely out of the service to stay sober myself and
- 3:01to help the still suffering addict alcoholic.
- 3:03Please like, subscribe, follow, rate the podcast.
- 3:06It means so much to me. Please.
- 3:09So my intention today is not to make you believe in anything
- 3:12specific. It's about exploring what keeps
- 3:14you sober when your willpower isn't enough.
- 3:17I can't explain my idea of God. I just know that there's some
- 3:20sort of force out there that guides me through my days and
- 3:24keeps me on the right path when I choose to listen to it.
- 3:28I see the miracles all around me when I choose to block myself
- 3:31off from it and live an ego and control everything and do things
- 3:36my way and try to manipulate outcomes to suit me.
- 3:39I am asleep. I am not in contact with a power
- 3:43greater than myself, which I call God.
- 3:45I don't go to church. I'm not religious.
- 3:46I grew up Catholic but I haven't been to church in forever so I
- 3:50don't know. I'm a spiritual person, I follow
- 3:53the path that I believe is laid out for me and that involves
- 3:57service to others. That that is my sole purpose on
- 4:00this earth is to be of service to other people.
- 4:02Because when I am in service to other people, things just tend
- 4:05to go a lot better for me. And the alcoholic, an addict is
- 4:09a self-centered creature, right? We are always thinking about
- 4:12ourselves. I'm always thinking about how to
- 4:13please me, how to get my way and if I, you know, I avoid a lot of
- 4:18situations that don't cater to me if left unchecked.
- 4:22So let's check that today. There's no perfection or purity
- 4:26here. There's no better than there's
- 4:28no gurus. There's no pretending life is
- 4:31easy and I'm perfect. It's progress, not perfection.
- 4:35So a lot of people walk into recovery and they hear God and
- 4:37they run away. Like I said, they are scared of
- 4:39this idea of religion. It's not religion, it's a power
- 4:42you choose. It's just not you.
- 4:44Simple as that. A lot of people talk about
- 4:46turning your will in your life, your thoughts, and your actions
- 4:48over to a care of a higher power.
- 4:50Turn it over to something more qualified.
- 4:53My higher power, my God, my directing force is a more
- 4:56qualified thing than I am entity force.
- 5:00I let it run the show. I'm just a janitor in the play
- 5:03mopping the floor. That's it.
- 5:05I'm a role player that keeps me grounded and it really does help
- 5:09me in my my spiritual path, but also my recovery.
- 5:12So spirituality can be as simple as just tools for grounding,
- 5:14meaning and alignment. What a great word.
- 5:16Alignment, self-awareness, right?
- 5:20Knowing yourself in recovery, when I'm acting up and I'm being
- 5:23selfish, knowing my part in all situations, apologizing and
- 5:27making amends for things that I do by mistakes that I make.
- 5:32All right, So what spirituality is in recovery?
- 5:34It's a connection to something bigger than you, full stop.
- 5:37Bigger than your impulsive brain.
- 5:39When I run the show, this is the way I like to explain it to
- 5:41people. When I run the show, when I do
- 5:43things my way, I end up kicked out of my house in hotel rooms,
- 5:45doing cocaine until all hours of the morning by myself every
- 5:49single time. Gives you a sense of purpose.
- 5:51Spirituality. Why am I staying sober?
- 5:53It practices that you slow down enough to hear yourself think to
- 5:57get your ego out of the way, right?
- 5:59They're going to be talking a lot about ego today too, because
- 6:01ego is the thing that keeps me disconnected, keeps me untapped.
- 6:05There are two types of people in this world.
- 6:07Those who are tapped in and those who are not tapped in.
- 6:10People that are tapped in are living in service.
- 6:13They're not selfish. They're not running life
- 6:16according to them. They pause before they react.
- 6:19People that are untapped are selfish, running on self will,
- 6:23doing bad things, stealing, manipulating, lying, cheating.
- 6:28People that are tapped in or able to accept circumstances
- 6:31they they control what they can control and leave the results up
- 6:35to the universe. Spirituality also connects you
- 6:37to your values, integrity, honesty, courage, service, and
- 6:41you're building inner resources instead of relying on substances
- 6:44for emotional regulation. Wow, powerful.
- 6:46What a gift. Before I came into recovery, I
- 6:49was turning my will and my life, so my thoughts and my actions
- 6:52over to the bottle, over to the drugs.
- 6:55Whenever I had a problem, an emotion, a discomfort, an
- 6:59disease, and unease about me, whenever that cropped up, what
- 7:04did we do? We took drugs or drank.
- 7:07I used to turn all my problems, my will and my life over to
- 7:10substances. Now I come into recovery, I got
- 7:12to replace that with something, and it can't be a material
- 7:15thing. It cannot be an external thing.
- 7:17It has to come from within. It has to be an intrinsic
- 7:20motivator. Why not a force greater than
- 7:23you? Why not the universe?
- 7:24Why not a power greater than yourself?
- 7:26Today when a problem arises, I literally picture myself
- 7:30grabbing the problem, turning it over to the universe, and
- 7:34letting the outcome take care of itself.
- 7:36It doesn't mean that I don't go to work, I don't show up to
- 7:39school, I don't do the do things journal, connect with my higher
- 7:43power. It just means that I leave the
- 7:45outcomes up to God, up to the universe.
- 7:48So from an evidence based perspective, many recovery
- 7:50models emphasize spirituality because it reduces isolation,
- 7:54increases resilience, and supports long term behavior
- 7:57change. There's a lot of research about
- 7:59positive psychological reactions from trusting in a power greater
- 8:04than yourself or having hope and faith.
- 8:07It's a trust that things are going to work out if you keep
- 8:09doing the next right thing, if you keep staying sober.
- 8:12I trust I don't know the next chapter, but I trust the author
- 8:16right. I trust that it's going to work
- 8:18out if I just keep doing what I'm doing, if I keep on the
- 8:22recovery path, if I keep helping others.
- 8:24Things tend to turn out beneficial in my life.
- 8:27I do it because it makes me happy.
- 8:29It makes me content. I'm not worrying about the fact
- 8:33that I don't have enough money to buy groceries or that I don't
- 8:36particularly like school. I just trust that it's going to
- 8:40work out the plan. So whenever this anxiety comes
- 8:43up, I just turn it over. Universe, you handle this while
- 8:46I work on, you know, I'll check back in with you tomorrow.
- 8:49You handle this, I'll check back in with you tomorrow.
- 8:52And then in that silence, that's when the answer comes.
- 8:55Every single time. It's hard to do.
- 8:57Sometimes you want to turn over some things and not others,
- 8:59right? If I turn over everything in my
- 9:01life today, every problem, every emotion, it tends to work out.
- 9:06And that's not avoiding it either.
- 9:07I don't avoid it. I sit with it instead of sitting
- 9:10in it. I'll check back in with you
- 9:12later. Just it's like going into a
- 9:14movie and before you go into the movie, you take your problem and
- 9:19you leave it at the door, right? Your anxiety, your fear, your
- 9:23money problem, your worry about the future, your fear of the
- 9:26future. You leave it at the door.
- 9:28You go watch the movie and when you come back out, suddenly you
- 9:32have a new perspective and you know how to handle that problem.
- 9:34That's what spirituality does for me today.
- 9:36OK, so the spiritual void in addiction.
- 9:39So addiction shrinks your world. You get this tunnel vision, this
- 9:42disconnection, loss of purpose. You're only focusing on pleasing
- 9:45yourself. I'm only focusing on pleasing
- 9:47me. Getting high, getting drunk.
- 9:48It's starts with shame, it turns into hiding, into isolation.
- 9:52The real addiction is often escape, not the substances,
- 9:55right? I'm not looking to get high, I'm
- 9:58looking to escape reality. I'm looking to turn my problems
- 10:02over. Like I said, I'm looking to
- 10:04check out spirituality fills that void that we have an
- 10:09addiction by giving you direction, rebuilding your
- 10:11identity, learning about yourself.
- 10:13Like I said, the self examination, honest self
- 10:15appraisal, reconnecting you with other people because my higher
- 10:19power, my God, speaks through other people creating meaning
- 10:22out of pain. So all the bad things that
- 10:24happened in my life, life has lived forward and understood in
- 10:26reverse. How many times have bad things
- 10:28happened in my life where they've turned out to be the
- 10:30greatest gifts ever? I just haven't seen it at the
- 10:32time because my perspective was skewed.
- 10:34As time passes, my perspective changes.
- 10:36My perception changes. That's what spirituality does.
- 10:39That's what recovery does. It changes your perception.
- 10:43I wake up every morning looking to shift my perception.
- 10:46Maybe I'm wrong. My biggest problem today is I'm
- 10:49right, Right? Whenever I think something has
- 10:51to go a certain way, or the answer is clearly this, I'm in a
- 10:54world of trouble. Addiction disconnects you from
- 10:56yourself. Recovery reconnects you.
- 10:59Spirituality is the bridge, the catalyst.
- 11:03All right? It's practical spiritual tools.
- 11:06So here's some ways to connect with your spirituality, connect
- 11:09with yourself, Stillness and mindfulness.
- 11:11So we've heard of meditation, breathing exercises, grounding
- 11:15techniques, sitting in a chair and just breathing.
- 11:18As the thoughts come into your mind, as they will, as they
- 11:20always do, you picture them. I had a therapist telling me
- 11:23this once. Picture your thoughts when
- 11:25you're meditating as clouds and bubbles just floating by.
- 11:29Those are your thoughts. Or if you're a computer person,
- 11:32you're deleting the thoughts. On a computer, you're slowly 1
- 11:35by 1, erasing the words. Let it pass through you.
- 11:39Why it works. It reduces impulsivity,
- 11:42increases emotional regulation. It creates meditation, creates a
- 11:45pause between action and reaction.
- 11:48I don't react when I get cut off in traffic.
- 11:51I mean, I, I do, but I'm working on it and it's something that I
- 11:54work towards, right? It creates a space for you to
- 11:57react, respond, not react. Second thing is gratitude and
- 12:00perspective shifts. So first thing was stillness and
- 12:03mindfulness. Now gratitude and perspective
- 12:05shifts. The brain literally rewires when
- 12:07gratitude is practiced constantly.
- 12:09So that's a gratitude list. Every morning, three things I'm
- 12:12grateful for Coffee, my podcast and my wife do that everyday and
- 12:17come up with new things. I'm grateful for my legs.
- 12:19I'm grateful for the fact that I have a home with heat.
- 12:23It helps gratitude lists and perspective shifts help you
- 12:26shift from surviving to living in the moments.
- 12:29That's the important thing. Yesterday and tomorrow don't
- 12:31exist, but we love to live there.
- 12:33Now is the only time. The presence is the only time
- 12:37that exists. God doesn't exist in the future
- 12:39or in the past. God is only right here.
- 12:41That's how I connect to it him, whatever you want to call it,
- 12:44the universe. All right.
- 12:45See community and service. Service reduces self-centered
- 12:49thinking. So when I'm helping somebody
- 12:50else is still suffering, alcoholic, an addict, when I'm
- 12:52in their shit, I'm out of my my shit.
- 12:54I'm not thinking about me and my poor life.
- 12:57My problem, I'm trying to help them.
- 12:59Community provides belonging. The opposite of addiction is
- 13:03connection. So when I'm connected to other
- 13:05people, when I'm in Group settings or sitting down with
- 13:07another person, addict, alcoholic, someone struggling,
- 13:11I'm connected. I'm like, I'm not ruminating
- 13:14about my poor life. All right, next meaning making.
- 13:17So D meaning making, turning your story into something that
- 13:20helps others. Oh, I love this one.
- 13:22If you were sexually abused as a child, this is just an example.
- 13:25This might sound a little extreme to you, but it's true.
- 13:28I know a lot of people that were abused as as children and
- 13:32they've taken that. They're survivors.
- 13:34They're not victims. They've shifted their mentality,
- 13:37their mindset around it. They now have an experience, as
- 13:40horrible as it is, can help somebody else that's been
- 13:43through that. What a gift.
- 13:45If you've been through serious trauma in your life, you now
- 13:48have the opportunity to be of service to somebody else that's
- 13:51been through the exact same thing.
- 13:53That's a free purpose card. God just hooked you the fuck up.
- 13:56I know it doesn't seem like it. Maybe that sounds outlandish and
- 13:59crazy to you, but you can be of service to somebody.
- 14:01That's been what where you have been, that's been through what
- 14:04you have been where nobody else can.
- 14:06It helps you understand the why behind your sobriety.
- 14:09I've been through some shit. Now I can use that experience.
- 14:12Relapsing after eight years is a perfect example.
- 14:14I can use that experience to help others avoid that horrible
- 14:18situation and not relapse after long term recovery.
- 14:20Because it's a fucking horrible experience.
- 14:22I spent four months of using every single day before I came
- 14:26back into recovery. Hotel rooms, Airbnb's, using by
- 14:30myself. Nobody wanted to hang out with
- 14:31me, going to bars by myself. It was horrible.
- 14:34Next one is surrender and acceptance.
- 14:35So letting go of control addicts and Alcoholics.
- 14:38We love control man. Oh my God, we love control.
- 14:41I want to be able to control everything.
- 14:43If you're not living according to my script, you're not doing
- 14:45things my way. I have a resentment towards you.
- 14:48I can rearrange that and unlearn that behavior and help other
- 14:52people Let go. If recovery, If I had to recover
- 14:55sum up recovery in 2 words, it would be that let go.
- 14:58You let go of the drinking and the drugging.
- 15:00Now you got to let go of your thinking, your will, your
- 15:03actions, your selfishness, your poor behavior, your lying and
- 15:08cheating and stealing. You let it go.
- 15:10Your problems, you let it go. Let somebody more qualified deal
- 15:13with it. A power greater than yourself.
- 15:15Accepting reality without collapsing into hopelessness.
- 15:19Right? This is the a good one.
- 15:20When things happened in my life, am I able to just accept them?
- 15:23The faster I'm able to accept things in my life, outcomes,
- 15:26situation, circumstances, the better off I'll be.
- 15:29And that doesn't mean that doesn't mean I get to, you know,
- 15:32I have to be a doormat. It just, I can accept things
- 15:34that I can't control, like gas prices or the Prime Minister or
- 15:39laws that are being passed or the fact that some people still
- 15:43think addiction is a choice and not a disease.
- 15:45I can let that go and I can just say I'm a role player playing my
- 15:49role. I'm on my my spiritual path,
- 15:52thank God. Thank God I am not playing that
- 15:55person's role today. The angry man at work yelling at
- 15:59everybody and screaming and being miserable all the time.
- 16:02Thank God I don't have to play that role today.
- 16:05Another thing that helps me with when people piss me off.
- 16:07This might help you too. Alex Hermosi said it.
- 16:09It's when somebody does something that I don't agree
- 16:12with or vice versa. But when someone does something
- 16:15that pisses me off, I can simply now say to myself before
- 16:18reacting because I want to react all the time.
- 16:21I want to tell them how they're wrong and I want to be passive
- 16:23aggressive and embarrass them about it.
- 16:25That person is simply not living in a way in which I would
- 16:29prefer. That person is simply not living
- 16:32in a way in which I would prefer.
- 16:35And vice versa, when I piss somebody else off, or somebody
- 16:37doesn't like me or the things that I'm doing, I am not living
- 16:41in a way in which they would prefer.
- 16:43Wow, who would have thought? I can disagree with people
- 16:46respectfully and live and let live, not comment on their
- 16:50behavior. All right, so just to recap that
- 16:52one practical spiritual tools. We talked about stillness and
- 16:55mindfulness, gratitude and perspective shifts, community
- 16:58and service meaning making. Surrender and acceptance.
- 17:03That's a big one. Surrender and acceptance.
- 17:05If you can surrender and accept your life on a daily basis, it
- 17:09doesn't mean that you don't have to do anything to change it.
- 17:11I have no control over so many things in this world, especially
- 17:16outcomes. Control what you can control.
- 17:19Leave the rest up to God, to the universe, to your higher power.
- 17:22OK, next, spiritual growth through pain.
- 17:24That's a tough one. Pain is the touchstone of all
- 17:28spiritual growth. Trauma, loss, relapses all
- 17:31become teachers and experiences where you can help others.
- 17:35Pain is a catalyst for awakening.
- 17:37A lot of the time I have to screw up multiple times before I
- 17:40learn a lesson. For example, not telling the
- 17:43truth. I relapsed after eight years
- 17:45because I wasn't honest with myself and I wasn't honest with
- 17:48other people. So I had to scrape my knee
- 17:50constantly before I learned that lesson where it was like, I
- 17:54can't even tell a white lie today.
- 17:55I can't because one lie spirals and it starts this little spark
- 18:00and then it turns into a fire that I'm hiding behind my house.
- 18:04I can't lie because when I do, things just go in a horrible
- 18:09direction and then I'm using drugs and drinking again because
- 18:12I'm so ashamed about the lie that I've spun up, the story
- 18:15that I've spun up. When everything else falls
- 18:17apart, when the world is collapsing, the sky is falling,
- 18:19spirituality becomes the anchor. I don't know why you're doing
- 18:22this to me, world, universe, God, but I trust you.
- 18:25I trust the plan. It's for a reason.
- 18:28The question that changes my recovery, changed my recovery is
- 18:32what is this trying to teach me? It's tough one to wrap your head
- 18:35around, but when you're in it and you're going through it and
- 18:38you're struggling, what is this trying to teach me?
- 18:40There is a lesson here. There's a silver lining.
- 18:42There's a reason this is happening.
- 18:44I need to learn something or unlearn something.
- 18:46Using drugs and alcohol and constantly being out there is a
- 18:50perfect example of this. I tried every single concoction
- 18:54of medication and drugs to so that I could safely use without
- 18:58going off the deep end and using a whole bottle of prescription
- 19:01pills. Failed every time I thought I
- 19:03could control it. Had to scrape my knee.
- 19:06Finally learned I have lost my right to chemical Peace of Mind.
- 19:09I can't use outside things to change my insides even though I
- 19:12want to. Doesn't work.
- 19:13I have no control once I take one with everything.
- 19:17All mood and mind altering substances.
- 19:19I had to relearn that and it was hard and painful but it taught
- 19:22me a lot. My relapse taught me a lot.
- 19:24OK, next, my personal experience.
- 19:27So spirituality to me in early recovery, I don't know, I just,
- 19:31I came in and when I first came into recovery in 2015, all these
- 19:35people I was hanging around with were talking about God and I
- 19:38didn't really understand it. I didn't have a problem with it
- 19:40because I wasn't an atheist or I grew up, you know, like I said,
- 19:45in the Catholic Church. So I was intrigued because all
- 19:48the people that were talking about God had 2010, twenty,
- 19:5130-40 years of sobriety and they were all happy all the time.
- 19:55I didn't know what they had, but I wanted it.
- 19:57And if you want what we have, you have to do what we did.
- 20:00So I was interested. I was intrigued.
- 20:02There have been many moments in my sobriety where spirituality
- 20:05saved the day. I mean.
- 20:07Honestly, every day when I have problems or anxieties or fear, I
- 20:11literally pause and I stop and I talk to my higher power.
- 20:14I pray, I turn it over, take this from me, work on it, I'll
- 20:18check back in with you. And it works.
- 20:19It honestly does. And yeah, your definition of
- 20:21spirituality will change over time.
- 20:23Your relationship with your higher power will change over
- 20:25time. I talk to mine all day, every
- 20:27morning, every night. I thank him every day for
- 20:30another day sober. And then in the morning, I asked
- 20:33him to guide me. I asked him to help me do the
- 20:35next right thing, to be of service, to get out of my my own
- 20:37way, to get out of ego, to stop being selfish.
- 20:41So for me, prayer every morning, prayer every night, and then
- 20:44some meditation here and there. You don't have to do that, but
- 20:47that's what works for me. OK, How to build a spiritual
- 20:49practice if you're new. So start simple. 3 minutes of
- 20:53breath work. Use insight timers and app that
- 20:56I use for guided meditation. If you're squirrely like me,
- 20:59let's put your headphones in and listen to some guided
- 21:01meditations. Journaling is another one.
- 21:03I do that every day. I journal whatever's on my mind.
- 21:05It helps with creativity. It also helps get the shit out
- 21:08of my head. Write down what I'm grateful for
- 21:10and I also clear my mind. I free write, free hand, write
- 21:13two or three pages, try new things if you're new or be open
- 21:17minded. All you need to get sober is
- 21:19honesty, honesty, open mindedness, and willingness.
- 21:22How do I get sober? How, HOW honesty, open
- 21:26mindedness, willingness, I got to be willing to try new things
- 21:30that other people are doing and it's working for them.
- 21:33The best part is it's free. There's no strings attached.
- 21:36It's just you got to just wrap your head around, maybe I'm
- 21:39wrong, maybe I don't have all the answers to living a good
- 21:42sober life. And then create your own
- 21:44conception of a higher power. You can whatever you want.
- 21:47I've heard people have their dogs or their, you know,
- 21:50deceased parents be their higher power.
- 21:52It doesn't have to be the guy. It's definitely not the guy with
- 21:55the beard in the sky. It doesn't have to be the judo,
- 21:57Christian, judeo-christian version.
- 22:00You choose your own conception. It could just be nature, the
- 22:04universe, a guiding force, the force from the force from Star
- 22:08Wars. I really want to encourage,
- 22:10encourage curiosity here. Ask more questions.
- 22:13You don't have all the answers and that's OK.
- 22:15Try new things, you know, Learn how to play the piano.
- 22:18Be a beginner mindset in early recovery.
- 22:21Be a sponge. Spirituality is a skill, not a
- 22:25switch. It's not a performance, it's a
- 22:27learned skill that comes with repetition and practice.
- 22:30OK, so in closing, spirituality equals connection, meaning,
- 22:34grounding and purpose. It's something you won't want to
- 22:37miss, OK? I believe me.
- 22:39It is a beautiful thing to be connected to a power greater
- 22:43than yourself. Spirituality grows as you grow,
- 22:46so if you haven't figured it out yet or you don't know what it
- 22:48is, that's OK. It'll grow over time with
- 22:50practice and I still can't define mine.
- 22:53I still can't explain it to you. It's just things in my life
- 22:57happen that seem to line up sometimes or I'm like, was it
- 22:59odd or was it God right? Was it a coincidence or is this
- 23:04part of the plan? Getting a job at the rehab that
- 23:06I worked at is a perfect example.
- 23:08I was about to I hated my old job and I got a call from a
- 23:11friend of mine that owns the rehab and he offered me a job
- 23:14like almost perfectly in in time with when I was thinking about
- 23:19leaving my other job. Now I work at the rehab.
- 23:21I love it. I absolutely love it.
- 23:23There is a plan for you just got to pay attention to it and be
- 23:27open and willing and clear your head of all the perception
- 23:31problems we don't have. I don't have problems today.
- 23:34I have perception bad perception.
- 23:36I'm looking at things wrong. I'm looking at the glass half
- 23:39empty all the time, not half full.
- 23:42I encourage you to find something that brings you peace.
- 23:45So a place, a quiet, a home, sort of feeling this like out in
- 23:50nature, you're connected, hiking, whatever it may be, find
- 23:53that place, find that thing. What what's one thing that makes
- 23:56you feel connected today? Could be people, could be
- 23:59coffee, could be going for a walk, could be praying,
- 24:03meditating. All right guys, that's it for
- 24:05me. Thank you so much again for
- 24:06listening and subscribing. Thank you to all my loyal
- 24:09subscribers and listeners and DM me on Instagram at Recovering
