- 0:00SPEAKER_02: Gio, you're 25 years old.
- 0:01SPEAKER_02: You got a wife, daughter.
- 0:03SPEAKER_02: You're running 70 miles a week.
- 0:06SPEAKER_02: Maybe more now for your new race, which we'll get into.
- 0:09SPEAKER_02: You're a 15-minute 5k guy.
- 0:12SPEAKER_02: Man, what is 5 a.m.?
- 0:13SPEAKER_02: Because I know you run early.
- 0:14SPEAKER_02: 5 a.m.
- 0:15SPEAKER_02: look like at your house.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: 5 a.m.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: looks like uh me sneaking out the room to not wake up my daughter.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Because she tends to uh walk in the room random times of night.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, tense for me sneaking out the room, you know, lacing my shoes up, getting my uh getting me some some carbs in me, so like you know, my mourn bottle.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: I got it right here as well, you know.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: I mean, shout out more in my my uh my fueling brand, you know.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Okay, my ambassador for them, so I had shout them out.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Good choice.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: But yeah, yeah, but um, yeah, you know, uh waking up, creeping out the room, lacing on my shoes, man, and handing out that door, dude.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's pretty much it, bro.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: That it's it's it's simple.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: It's simple, you know.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: The mindset is simple.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Get up, lace the shoes up, and tell yourself, all right, 10 mile day, let's go get it.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: You know, and that's it.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: How soon you get out the door?
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: I'm curious.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: How soon?
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm not gonna lie, I'll I'm I'm a linger, so I you know I I like I like to, you know, get in, I'm in the kitchen, you know.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: I might scroll my phone a little bit, you know.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Uh I'll I'll pray too, you know.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: I'll pray just to have a good run.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, I mean, let's say I get up at like five.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Or usually, I mean today I got up at like 445.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: I was probably out the door by like 510-ish.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: But I went to I went to go meet a friend.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: So usually if I'm not meeting a friend, I probably get up at about 4:45, 5.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Um, get out of the door by 5.30.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Um, but some days, I'm not gonna lie, recently I've been getting up probably around like 6, 6.30 and running at 7, just because I've been a little, I've just been trying to get that extra hour of sleep, um, which I can't do because I work remote.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: So I could, you know, kind of stay in a little bit and um still run when the sun's not out quite out yet in Florida.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: So like around 6 30 ish, seven.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: So um, but yeah, most days probably either anywhere between 5 30 and 6 30, you know, I'm out the door.
- 2:05SPEAKER_02: So what does a normal week look like for you, you know, and the madness of all these miles, and then you got family time work and all that.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: Like, do you plan your uh running on a week basis, monthly basis?
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: How do you do that?
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: So I'm on a day-to-day basis, I would say I definitely have my daughter and wife in mind first.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: So I try to run obviously before they wake up, or if I'm doing a double before they get back home.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: So when it comes to running in the morning, like I said, I'm not I'm I'm pretty much done my runs before eight o'clock in the morning, every every day.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: So I'm either starting at 5:30, 630 and get in my eight to ten miles, whatever it is, or if it's a workout day, you know, I might be up to 12 miles that morning.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Um, but I'm either way, I'm back before eight o'clock every single day.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Um just because my wife, she has to go to work.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: And then baby girl, I have to take her to daycare, right?
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: So I gotta be at daycare.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: I start work at nine, so I gotta be at the daycare at least by 8:30, 8.45 the latest, right?
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: To get back home.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I mean, that's the morning, right?
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Uh be back at 8, take her to school, come back, uh, work my uh 9 to 5, right?
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Um sometimes I I'm able to get up a little early.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: So on Monday and Wednesdays, I have my doubles.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Uh Mondays, my double, like this easy double run.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: So I do like, I don't know, eight to ten in the morning.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: Um, and then in the afternoon, I do like four to five, you know, 12, 13 mile a day.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: And then on Wednesdays, I do my double threshold.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: So 10 and 12 mile workout in the morning, and then in the afternoon, anywhere between like seven to nine miles of double threshold work.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Um, and those are those those are the only two that I double.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: So but yeah, and then Tuesday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, you know, pretty much the same thing as Monday, but no dub.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: So easy nine, ten mile run.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: And then I'm back home.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Um, and then obviously I have some lifts in there too.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: So I live like two two times a week at least.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: I try to.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: So um, but those days are always different because I try to live consistently on days that um I either have like my uh like easy days because I but I've been switching up sometimes I might do it on a workout day, sometimes I might do it on an easy day.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: But with my schedule with my daughter, just you know, how however however how she's feeling and reacting that day, depends if I go to the gym or not.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: So, you know, gotcha.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: So, but yeah, and then Saturdays, long run days, right?
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: And then Sundays are our off days.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: So I'm on a six-day schedule.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: So Sundays I take off.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: Um, I need a I need a body to rest, even though I'm young, you know, having a daughter makes me feel like I'm 35.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I gotta, you know, get my rest day, man.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: So yeah, Sunday.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: You got three jobs, my man.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, for real, for real.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: So that's another job in itself.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: So, but yeah, that's the that's a day-to-day for to be honest.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: I see you often post like 5 p.m.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: and after is there.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: Was that like a conscious rule you made in your running journey?
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: The what?
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: The 5 p.m.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: and after is like family.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: Like, was that something you consciously made as a rule?
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, yeah, I I would say for sure.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: I I would say probably, and I'm and my wife knows this, but only on Wednesdays are the times that like, you know, I I do like that late run where it's like my double threshold.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: So I run like 6 or 6 30.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, after 5, I try my best to, you know, be just present with them.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: Because you know, running and I said it before, I'm only running like 70, 75 miles a week.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: But you know, there are people out there doing 100, 110, 120, and that takes so much time away from your family.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: So I'm not at that point yet, but you know, maybe someday I will get up there because I you know I do want to run a marathon in the future, and you know, but I have to learn how to balance that right now.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: So if I can balance that right now and learning when I can run, you know, make a schedule with my wife, like, hey, you know, I'm doing this, I'm doing this, and you know, I'm doing this at that this time, you know, to just communicate right with each other and the balance will be good.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: But yeah, after five, I will for sure say that I tried my best to make sure it's about them, you know, cooked it like before the podcast, you know, I I cook I cooked this um chicken Alfredo pasta, you know.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: I whipped it up.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: Yes, yep, yeah, yeah, yeah, whipped it up, you know, for the family.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: And then um, yeah, and then spent time with them, you know, cleaned and everything, and then hopped on the pod.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: So just make sure that spend time with them, especially with with uh my baby girl growing up, you know.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: I want to make sure that she knows I'm I'm here and present.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: And it's so funny because every time I go outside, she goes, Daddy's gonna run and she's only too and she already knows what I'm doing, you know.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Like like like earlier, my my wife ran on the room after she came from work and she was like, Mommy, go running, Dad.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: I'm like, Yep.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: So she already knows the lifestyle, you know.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's all that's cool.
- 6:37SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: Jill, how'd you get so fast?
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: Honestly, it took me to go to Flagstaff, Arizona for it to really click in my head of how good I could be.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: Um I was a multi-sport athlete, so uh soccer, basketball, football, lacrosse, I played all those.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: Uh middle school, uh, I was a starting, I was a I was a I was one of the running backs in middle school.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: I I started a few games, but I was you know, I was pretty small, so I didn't start that much.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: But a few games I would I would get to start, which is pretty cool.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: But in middle school, I did basketball, uh, football.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: I did a little bit of track, but my main love was basketball.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: You know, my my dream was I'm gonna make it to the NBA.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: That was my whole dream.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: And uh 5'4 kids saying that, right?
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: I'm only 5'7 now, so I didn't grow, I didn't grow that much.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: 5'4, I'm like, oh yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna go to the league.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Um getting into high school, um, you know, basketball was uh, you know, it was still like my my love.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: Uh but then lacrosse came to the picture and I'm like, oh, this this is a fun sport.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Like, this is sick.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Like, maybe I could do this for college, right?
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: And I would always go on YouTube, watch Maryland play, watch Yale play, you know, watch all the big dogs play um for you know, Virginia, all those guys, Notre Dame, right?
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: Duke.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, yo, I could be on that field because I'm fast and I can, you know, I could pick up the ground ball, you know, cradle it.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: So in high school, you know, uh, lacrosse is like one of my biggest loves.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, all right, maybe I could do this for college.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: Um, but then I also ran across country though.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: So all first of high school, I ran across country, but I didn't take it like seriously.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: Like I was only a 1705 guy coming out of high school.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: The reason being is because I I think I only I probably ran like 20, maybe 30 miles a week at uh at a time.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: And my senior year, I actually did both lacrosse and I did track, but obviously I was way focused on lacrosse, so like I did like I think I think I only ran like two track meets at that senior year, and I probably ran like 1030 in the two mile, maybe like 210 into 800.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: And uh, but lacrosse was like my main level, so like I would I would go to more lacrosse practices and track practices, you know, be with be with my lax boys and just play around.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: 2018 came around and I got a couple D2 offers, D3 offers, but I didn't get that D1 offer like I wanted.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, all right, you know what?
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: I'm just not gonna even play any any sports in college.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: So I went to a school called Cutz Town.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: It was a state school, it was you know close to home, our only like an hour 20 away from home.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: I'm like, alright, I'll just go here, you know.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: So my boys went, they're like, all right, I'm gonna just go here and just kick it.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: Um they had they had a club lacrosse team, so I thought about joining it.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: Um, but when I got to campus, you know, I felt like there was something missing.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I don't want to be on a club team.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: I feel like I should be like on an actual like NCAA, like real, like legitimate team.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, all right, so what could I do?
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: Um basketball team was too good, and they're all like 6'8, 6'7.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: I'm like, all right, so I'm 5'7, so I probably can't do that.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: Um lacrosse, like once again, it was a club sport, so I'm like, I don't want to do that.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: I'm like, oh the track teams have an open trial, so maybe I'll do that.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: So I I emailed a coach and I'm like, hey coach, you know, my name is Gio.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: Uh I ran in high school.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Um, here are my PRs.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: At the time, my PRs were 1705, like I said, 1032 mile.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: Mile was 455, 8 was 210.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: And I imagine a kid even today saying that to you for a G2 school, coach is like, yeah, bro, kick kick rocks, buddy.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: Kick your rocks, buddy.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately, that's just how it is for real.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: It's competitive right now, yeah.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: It's very competitive, very competitive.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: And even back then, like, I couldn't get on a team.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: So my coach emailed me at the cut at the time, um, he emailed me back and he was like, Yeah, buddy, hey, sorry, unfortunately, yeah, we don't think you're staying your time straight at the stairs that we need for the team.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: I'm like, all right, dang.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: So what I did, what I did, I went out, I went out of my comfort zone to DM the kid on the team and said, Hey man, can I train with you for a semester and try out next semester?
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: He goes, Yeah, dude, sure.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: His name was Jose.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: So I met up with him a few uh like two or three times a week, and he would just take me on his runs and we would run together.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: Next semester came around, spring semester, I tried out for the team.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: Um, coach had me do like an 800-meter workout, and I was actually, I actually finished a workout, and he was like, Alright, you can stay on the team, but he got a rush.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: I'm like, all right, I'll rush her.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: So I rushed her that whole year.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: 2019 came.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: Um, and uh I did cross country that season, and it was my first eight uh 8K.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Let me tell you, it was not pretty.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: I ran like I think 2930.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: I I think I came second or third to last.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: It was it was bad.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: It was bad 2019, and then boom, COVID happens, right?
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: So that whole rest of the 29, 20, like going into the the winter season, everything was canceled, right?
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: So everything was canceled, and I'm like, all right, well, what I did now.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: You know, I just got on the team, did my first cross season, but then now she's canceled.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: You know, I got no one to train with.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: I went, I had to go back home.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: You know, I what am I what am I gonna do?
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: Um, so I just like all right, I'm gonna start running, dude.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: So I started running 40, 50 miles a week, right?
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: So running 40, 50 miles a week, but still, I still wasn't that good.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: I still wasn't that good.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, I I it was a very, very slow, slow like build up to where I am now.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, the the year went on.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: We had like a so 2020 went on and then going to 2021, because that whole season the whole 2020 was canceled going to 2021.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: We had like a small championship like intro meet back into like sports.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: Um I ran to 5k and I ran out of 1624, I think it was.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: And that was a big PR for me from 2019 from coming from a 1705.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, oh, all right, well, that year of training, you know, 50 miles a week.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: I you know, got me to break 17 for the first time.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: So you know, I'm happy, I'm happy.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: Um, but my so once again, I went to Kiss Town, which it was a very competitive division uh to uh conference.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: It's called the Peace Act.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: A lot of people might that have watched this probably know the Peace Act.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: If they don't, um, you know, it well is it's a pretty good well-known uh division.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: So conference, I should say.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: So but I I saw like every other time though was so fast, and I'm like, dang, how can I how can I get to there?
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: Because kids are running 15 low, 1430s, but I'm a 1620 guy, and although I'm happy with that, that's still not competitive for where I where I was in in that school, in that school, yeah, with the TV.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, all right, I gotta do something, man.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: So 2021, and once again, this is like my official first year of running.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: So so going into going into the fall 2021, um, I had uh, you know, I had saved us some money from working.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: Um, and I told my mom, like, hey mom, what do you think if I went to Arizona?
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: And she was like, What?
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: I'm like, yeah, I've been reading a lot about like this after two stuff, and me and my friends want to go visit.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: And she goes, Are you crazy?
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: And she's like, How you gonna afford that?
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I got some, I got 2K saved up.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: I could, I could, I could just spend it on Arizona.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: She goes, If that's what you want to do, Gio, go ahead.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: And I she thought I wasn't gonna do it.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: But me and my boys booked in their Airbnb and we drove from Philly all the way to Arizona, four of us.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: And I was and I was 21 at the time, right?
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: So I was very committed to seeing if I go here, could I could I potentially get better?
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: Could I potentially come back a different breed, right?
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: That was my whole mind.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: So, like, could I potentially go there, discipline myself to train and train at least four to five weeks and and then and come back a different runner?
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, you know what?
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, what can it hurt?
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: What can it hurt, right?
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: So we did it.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: So we went to Arizona, Flagstaff.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: I met Coach Smith, that was that, you know, NAU coach.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: I met Coach Smith.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: Um, I met a couple really fast uh runners.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: I actually met uh Rory Linkletter too back then.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: It was sick.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: I met Rory, um, you know, that whole um NSA elite team that that used to be that I used to be over there.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: Um bro, I just met so many pro runners and so many elite athletes.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: It it changed my mindset and it changed my love for the sport.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: So obviously it was hard though.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: Like I'm at 7 feet first time ever.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: And once again, I'm like like this is like my second year athlete training for real.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: So I'm an amateur like runner, I'm still like kind of new to the sport.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, oh, this is different, bro.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: But I'm running 60 miles a week at this point now, right?
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: So I went from like 30 to 40 to 50, now 60 60 miles a week for that whole summer, right?
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: But you know, I got by by by week three, week four, you know, I had a change in my in my step.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: My cadence looked a little better, you know, my breathing, you know, felt easier.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: I'm like, all right, and I'm in altitude, right?
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: So I'm doing workouts, you know.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Uh and then and then I fly back home.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: No, I drive back home from Arizona, did my first workout, it was like a five-mile tempo.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: I think I averaged like 535.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: And for me, that was insane because I was like a 55, six flat guy tempo-ish, right?
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: Come back, my first workout, 535 average.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: I'm like, oh.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: Now I couldn't tell if it was from the altitude training, or it wasn't just me thinking like, oh, this it actually worked.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: But either way, I had the confidence to go out there and run fast, right?
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: So um going into that cross season, uh, first race, I ran like a 26-15.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: So dropped dramatically in time.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: My coach was like, what he do this summer?
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: You know, like what he do?
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: You know, came out here, you know, running kind of crazy.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: Um long story short, that cross season was really good.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: I ended up becoming top 20 in the conference for the um cross-frunter championships.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: Going into that winter, uh, I did my first ever 5k indoors.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: And remind you, that that spring, like that same year that spring, I remember 1625.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: I remember my first ever 5k, I ran 1524.
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: So a minute drop, and I said, Yeah, here we go.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: So, you know, and then after that, man, I the confidence just skyrodted.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: So obviously I had acid injuries though, unfortunately, like that spring season.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: Where like I didn't remember my full potential, I feel like.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: But I ended up, you know, doing the steeple chase as well.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: And I actually went to Penn, I went to Penn State and ran my first and ran steeple.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: I remember like 10.05 or something to qualify for the PC Championship.
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: And then I came back three weeks later and dropped like a 930 and placed top top eight in the conference.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: I had placed six in the conference.
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: So another dramatic time dropping.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: Um, but steel chest, like, you know, that's like probably my favorite event and try to track it field.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: That was that was that was pretty cool.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, how did I get so fast?
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: I think I I went out of my comfort zone to go to a place where I wasn't familiar with.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: I put myself in an environment though with elite people that I know would push me.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: And then I came back feeling so confident that I could be like those kids or those guys or girls that I met up in Flagstaff.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: Oh, side note too.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: I actually went to Boulder that same year as well.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: That same summer.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: So I went to Flag.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I went to Flag, and then I took like a four-week, four-day break at home, and then I went to Boulder for like two weeks.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: And same with my boy who lived, who went to uh Boulder, uh, who went to University of Colorado at the time.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: So really I had like six weeks of attitude training that summer, where it's kind of changed my trajectory of like running and my love for the sport.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: And ever since then, I've just been hooked on being the best that I could be.
- 17:18SPEAKER_02: So, what changed that flax that?
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: Obviously, you went out there you're now to your training, and then you like you said, you picking up stuff from all these the environments, just pros, NEU, everyone.
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: Like, what'd you pick up and what'd you learn out there that gave you that pep?
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, dude, honestly, I had to say, like, shout out to like NAU's team, man.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: Like, the way those guys just worked and the way Coach Smith talks, you know.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: I you know, I when I met him, I was on, and he probably he probably doesn't remember me too.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: I think he probably met so many people, but I was I went to the NAU track and I was just doing strides.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: And I see him on the rail.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: There's like you know, he has the arms on the rail just looking at looking at us, striding.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: And then my friend goes, I think that's coach Smith.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: I'm like, like NAU coach, like that coach?
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: He's like, Yeah, bro.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, hey, what's up, coach?
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: He goes, Hey you guys, how you doing?
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: Good?
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: What are you guys doing?
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: What are you working on?
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: Just do some strides.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: Keep working, man.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: You guys could be good.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: And that's all he said, right?
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: But then the next day, you know, we I forget what park we went to.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: Um uh it was it was some cool loop.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: But we met like Rory Linkletter and that and that whole NSZ team.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: And talking to them was I think was what kind of like flipped my switch of like working hard and being disciplined in the sport and like pushing yourself, and like I said, surrounding yourself with a group of people that have the same goals as you, the same as Bishon, and that and just want to work, bro.
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: Like you wanna you have to want to work and you have to want to win.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: And if you surround yourself with those type of people, like there's there's like a fire that just builds inside of you, and that's what I had at the time.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: Like when I told you, like, me and my friends drove, like four young dudes just drove from Philly to Arizona.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: For like, you know, no one really does that for real.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: Like, no one does that.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: You know, you know, people might buy a plane ticket, but we're like, no, we're gonna drive, bro.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: What did the road trip?
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: You know, but let's have fun with it.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: So we drove, you know, we stopped in New Mexico, which is another spot I went to.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: They had altitude as well, you know, they're like 5,000, you know.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: All right, but we were there for two days, you know, we as we as we passed by.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, we just visited so many places, but yeah, I mean, what what like kind of ticking me off was like just meeting those elite guys, man, like just looking how they run, looking at what they eat, you know, hearing their their stories of how they came up and how they wanted to be like the best, and how running was also an outlet for them.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: You know, it was an outlet for me, you know.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: I I was told at the beginning of my like college career, like I wasn't good enough.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: That that that put a fire in me, right?
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: That put a fire in me, you know.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: Turn around three years later, I was the best distance guy on that team of top 10 in in school history for both 5k and a sequel chase.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: But three years before prior to that, I was told I wasn't good enough to be on that team.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: But now my name is in the record books on at that school when I was so it's like you know, you can't let you can't you can't let words kind of uh um define you know who who who you're gonna be.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: You know, only you can do that.
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: So well I was gonna ask you, is that what set you off to like to your point?
- 20:06SPEAKER_02: No one's gonna go, I wanna go chase a dream, I'm gonna go drive thousand miles away.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: I don't know anyone over there.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: I'm just gonna put myself in the environment.
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: Like, was it that that fire that like, nah, you're not good enough, you can't do it, or or were there other things that drove you to want to be this kid?
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean it it was I mean it was one of them for sure.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: Just me being told I wasn't good enough.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, all right, well, I guess I gotta prove it then.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: So I had to go on my way and and actually run.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: I actually had to put in the miles, you know, 40 miles a week now.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: Coming from 20 in high school, playing with cross basketball, like, you know, I had to focus on running.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: Um and and also just like I feel like uh I'm also the oldest of three, right?
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: I have two younger brothers.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: Um and for me, like going to college and not and just and you know, I'm not saying if you go to college, you don't play the sport, you know, you're you're not like you're not invaluable in your family.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: But for me, my two younger brothers, they were very athletic people too.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: And I felt like dang, I'm kind of disappointed, like I feel like I was a disappointment to them if I didn't at least try to do something to kind of inspire them.
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: But that was also another like thing that kind of you know kicking me off was like I gotta do something like to prove to them like you know they could be a young, you know, African American here in this in in this world and get a scholarship to run and or or or play basketball or football.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: They're they're they're both football guys, by the way.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: So they they both got scholarships.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: Um big guys, like the one the youngest one, he's like six, six one, six two, like one eighty, one ninety.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: And the middle one, he's like five ten, one seventy.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: So like they're both pretty good.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: Uh uh, they play DB, they both play safety and db.
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: Um Jill, what happened on the hype, man?
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: Where why why your brothers get the hype?
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: I want the same thing.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: They got the hype, but I got the look, so sorry.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: Okay, there you go.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: That's all I always tell them.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: All right, you got y'all can be tall, but I I got the looks of the family though.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: So y'all can take that.
- 21:56SPEAKER_02: Fair enough.
- 21:59SPEAKER_02: Jill, what What are you doing now that college geo wasn't doing?
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: You know, there's more mileage now, but what else?
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: Fueling.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: Fueling was definitely.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: I mean, what I'm doing right now had nothing in like I did none none of this when I was in college.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: Which is also why I think I also didn't run that fast, too.
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: Also, I also ran with a hernia too, the last years of my college career, which I don't know if you know, but I had a hernia, I had surgery in 2024 to get it like um to get like the mesh in there and everything.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna lie, to this day, it still kind of like hurts a little bit here and there.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: So I gotta be careful what gotta do my abs.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: But yeah, um, I ran with a hernio, so I wasn't the healthiest.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: Uh I also didn't eat the best or a few of the best, I should say.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: Like after my runs, I wasn't getting my carbs of protein in.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: I wasn't getting my electrolytes in.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: Cause I because I I still be like didn't know.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: I didn't know these things.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: You know.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: Um we weren't, you know, and no no fault on my coach, but I guess, you know, it was it just wasn't like a big emphasis on like our training, you know.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: Like when once I moved to Tampa and did my last two years here of running, you know, it was all about like, you know, long tempo threshold stuff.
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: Um, but it wasn't but like after the fact, like we like we never just knew how to fuel and like how to like you know just um uh recover ourselves, you know, which I'm doing right now, which I think I've seen a huge difference in my running from like two, three years ago to now.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I mean obviously those two things, and obviously sleep too.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: Um obviously with the baby is kind of hard, but I still try to get my sleep, which I had I didn't do as well as college, but I I think I do way better now for sure.
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: How bad was the the injury before the surgery?
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: I mean, for having a hernia, I still ran like 1509 in the 5K for PV and then uh 920, 920s in a steeple chase.
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: So I was jumping over barriers with a hernia, which is pretty good.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: I think I think if I had not, if I had gotten surgery like during college and I had like a year left, I can I told my coaches every every day, like I feel like if I had this the surgery before um my last year, I think I could have ran like nine-o's or even seven nine in the steel chase.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: But it just it was just so hard to train with the hernia because like it would just hurt like a lot of days to jump and do and like do the hurdle stuff.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: Like I would just not do it some days, and I would just literally go to into races just off of like my training of like my brain training.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: And like, and you know, I was a pretty athletic dude, so I could jump and had a pretty good form already.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: So I wouldn't so I would only practice really hurdling, you know, maybe once or twice a week, really, and that was it, just because of the you know, because we were just trying to avoid, yeah, to avoid more, you know, rupture down there.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I think if I had got the surgery before, I think I would have been like a 9 0s sub-nine guy.
- 24:44SPEAKER_00: Um even now, I think I could run a fast deeper, but I'm just so scared to like I said, even now it hurts.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: When I'm doing like when I get up in mileage, it starts to like kind of uh nag a little bit.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: So it it is tough.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: So, but yeah, if I if I could, I definitely would go back and try to run something fast and see which is, but it's just too risky.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: I don't I I don't wanna, you know, I don't want to do it.
- 25:05SPEAKER_02: What was it like to stop running after the surgery?
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: You had to stop for a while, I'm assuming.
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was like three, it was like three, four months.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: The worst pain I've ever felt in my life.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: I I don't wish I don't wish we're in your surgery on anyone.
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: It was the worst pain I felt in my life.
- 25:19SPEAKER_00: Um I mean I could I couldn't go to the bathroom for like a week or two weeks.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: Had to buy what's that thing they buy?
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: Uh um Mirrorlax?
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: Is that what it's called?
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, Miralax, uh fiber.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: So you get it.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, you get it, we get a real person in this podcast today, man.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: Listen, I had to get mirrored to go to the bathroom most days.
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: It was tough, man.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: You know, uh had my wife had to help me in the shower.
- 25:43SPEAKER_00: I you know, it was it was crazy.
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: It was it was bad.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, didn't run for like three months.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: Um got back like that late December, it started running a little bit, and then going to 2025, you know, we I'm doing some runs here and there, and then like I think January, like late January, early February, like when I was really started training again, and I started getting back into it.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: Started getting back into it.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: And then um I did my first 5k back on April 20.
- 26:11SPEAKER_00: I remember this day, April 20th, I believe it was.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: Uh it was at the University of South Florida, but you probably know, right?
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: USF.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: Um, and remind you, I was only doing 40 miles a week at this point.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: Somehow I ran 1520 first race back.
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: It was insane, insane.
- 26:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was insane.
- 26:27SPEAKER_00: First race back, I was doing 40, 45 miles a week at the max.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: Um, I would, you know, I did I had a pretty a good couple few workouts, and then um I had one good, really good workout where like I closed in like a I think a 212, 800.
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: And Coach was like, dude, you might remember you might run to sign for a five to see what you got.
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: I'm like, all right, yeah, I'll sign up for a 5k.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: Um obviously it was like 85 degrees that day.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: It was it was nasty out.
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: But I think I placed third or fourth, and like 1520, first race back, you know, uh after the after the after the surgery, and it was you didn't lose much fitness at all.
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: Yes, I didn't.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: Everyone was surprised.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: They're like, How'd you do that?
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I don't know.
- 27:03SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: But I think I told them I think I like doing 40 miles a week though, because I feel fresh right now, you know.
- 27:09SPEAKER_00: So uh, but yeah, but yeah, so that was April, and then going into May, um, my friend was like, dude, would you run a half marathon?
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: I said, What?
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: Nope, sir.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: I ain't doing that.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: That's too long for me.
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: And he goes, bro, come on, let's do it with me, man.
- 27:25SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, we'll you know, we'll go back home to your city, Philly.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: You know, we'll go to Philly, we can run it, you know.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: It could be like, you know, just a little fun adventure.
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, bro, how fast do people run that?
- 27:35SPEAKER_00: You know, I'm like, oh, you know, like I said, I was a 5k, 3k guy.
- 27:38SPEAKER_00: So I was never in the marathon, half marathon.
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: And he's like, bro, if we could like run like 72 or 71, that'd be hype.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: I'm like, uh, let me talk to the coach.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: I talked to my coach about it, and he's like, Yeah, we could train for it.
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: I'm like, all right, I'm like, what would I have to do like mileage-wise?
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: She's like, be competitive.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: Like he was like, if you could run 60 plus at least a week, you could be pretty competitive.
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: Like you'd probably run anywhere between like 70 to 72.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: I'm like, all right, I'm like, all right, so let's do it.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: So that May, he brought me up a training plan, and then that whole summer I averaged pretty much like 60, 65 miles a week.
- 28:12SPEAKER_00: And then I did my first half marathon in September.
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that's like the the the yeah, that was like you know, after the surgery too.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: So like a year, yeah, probably probably eight, ten months down after the surgery.
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm like training, trained now, back into it, you know, lifting, running like I said, six plus miles a week, and then yeah, and then now I'm training for half I don't know right now, I'm training for half marathon.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: So it was crazy.
- 28:34SPEAKER_02: A year after surgery, you go, you know what, fine, I'll sign up for a half marathon.
- 28:38SPEAKER_02: Sure, I'll do 60 miles a week.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: You average the 60 miles a week, and then you finish in 69 minutes, if I'm correct, your first half.
- 28:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, dude.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: What?
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was yeah, it was that that's that's not easy.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was, yeah.
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: I mean, coming and I think about that too, like coming from a kid that like only ran 1705 in high school.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then like I averaged like five night, what is it, five eighteen, five nineteen per mile and and at third for 13 miles.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: I always think about it like, wow, that's kind of wild.
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I mean my goal was honestly was like, alright, I know like my trainings are it should be around 70 minutes on a good day.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: I I I think I could break six to seventy though.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: And like I said, my friend was like, you can run 70, 72, anywhere between that.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: Because he was pretty good too, and you know, he's a fast, he was a fast guy too.
- 29:31SPEAKER_00: So, I mean, our our head was always like we had the potential to run under 70 minutes.
- 29:37SPEAKER_00: But coming over this where I was coming from, like, you know, six, seven months prior, it was like it would take a lot for me to actually run that fast, you know.
- 29:44SPEAKER_00: Um, uh especially only doing like 60 miles.
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: I think I I I hit 70 miles like once that whole block.
- 29:50SPEAKER_00: And I was mostly like I was mostly doing like 50 to like 60, 65.
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: I think it hit one, I think it hit 71 just to do it, but then I went right back down to 60, 61.
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: So I really was averaging 55 to 62 prior to that whole training block, and I ran 69, 50.
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: Um, so but I'm like, you know, I just don't think I'm fit enough to do this, but I'm gonna go in there and try though, you know.
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: Um and I think coming from Florida to Philly was also like a big help because obviously, like, you know, we talked about it earlier, the humidity down here is disgusting.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: And I went to Philly, it was like 54 degrees that race morning.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: So I felt it was I felt good.
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: I felt good.
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: It was a it was a good experience.
- 30:28SPEAKER_00: And I remember coming down the stretch and I saw like 69, like 20.
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: I'm like, oh I just are I just start going.
- 30:36SPEAKER_00: I started going, and I dipped under it, and it was the most amazing feeling I felt in a while.
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: So yeah, that's yeah.
- 30:44SPEAKER_02: Did you have any fear going into that or just thought concern of like, damn, I'm more of a 5k guy, steeple chase, like how am I gonna extend this speed for 13?
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: Um you know, I honestly did honestly didn't have any concerns, and I'll tell you why.
- 31:03SPEAKER_00: So that summer when I first originally wrote my plan, it was a simple two requests a week, easy long run Saturday.
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: And um, you know, I'm a big Yaqab guy, Yakub university, right?
- 31:15SPEAKER_00: And I I see his training, and he's I'm like, you know, he does double threshold.
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: I'm like, what could what could that do for me?
- 31:21SPEAKER_00: You know, I'm only doing 50 or 60 miles a week, but if I add double threshold, could that potentially make it feel like I'm doing more?
- 31:29SPEAKER_00: But obviously I'm doing less at the same time because the mileage.
- 31:32SPEAKER_00: So I brought up some of my friends, I'm like, hey coach, like what do you think if you start doing double threshold?
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: And he goes, I don't know.
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: It's I never experimented, I never did that with an athlete before, and you know, I don't I don't want you to get hurt, you know.
- 31:43SPEAKER_00: That's like that's a lot of that's a lot of that's a load on you and coming off of your surgery.
- 31:47SPEAKER_00: So I don't want you to do all that.
- 31:48SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, well, YOLO, we might as well try it.
- 31:52SPEAKER_00: And he's like, G-O-I, you want to try it, we'll try it.
- 31:56SPEAKER_00: So I did double thrust with that whole block, and it worked out really well for me, obviously, because I ran 69 minutes.
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: But I think I went into that race very confident of that.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: I know the training that I had done prior, and I knew that like, you know, I just went in there knowing I was fit to run at least 69, uh, at least at least 70 low, or at least 6 69.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I wasn't too concerned.
- 32:20SPEAKER_00: The only concern I had was um I hate running in the cold, and I'm like, all right, if it's gonna be like 40 degrees, it's not it's not this might not go well, but it was it was a cool 55.
- 32:29SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, all right, I can do this, I can do this.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: So, but no, yeah, I think doing DT was good.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, I didn't have any concerns to be honest.
- 32:38SPEAKER_02: Okay, Jill, we're talking about all this like running, training, and races.
- 32:43SPEAKER_02: I've seen you joke often, like, man, uh, someone acting like a pro athlete on some of your posts.
- 32:49SPEAKER_02: You train pretty serious for someone acting like a pro athlete.
- 32:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, double threshold, 14 miles.
- 32:56SPEAKER_02: I've seen you doing like sub-six pace, you know, some crazy things.
- 33:00SPEAKER_02: That's new.
- 33:00SPEAKER_00: That's that's new.
- 33:01SPEAKER_00: That's new.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: So last yeah, last summer, I did not it was straight double threshold work and easy long runs.
- 33:08SPEAKER_00: Like fast as I went last year was probably like 630, 640s on long runs.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: But another thing that we switched this year was like, okay, double threshold, let's do that.
- 33:19SPEAKER_00: But the second session, let's make them longer.
- 33:22SPEAKER_00: So last year I would do like very short sessions, like I'm talking like 15 or 10 by one minute on, one minute off.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: At a fast pace, like 505, 5'10, but it was a very short, you know, rep.
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: This year was okay, let's do double threshold where you're doing like at least three to four minutes of work in the afternoon for a rep at a fast pace, though.
- 33:44SPEAKER_00: For example, yesterday, um, which was good, yeah, but yesterday was Wednesday.
- 33:48SPEAKER_00: I did uh 10, I did 10 and a half miles in the morning, and my my session was four.
- 33:54SPEAKER_00: No, what was my session yesterday morning?
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: It was it was five by five minutes at 5.30 average with one minute off.
- 34:01SPEAKER_00: So so basically, basically almost my almost mile repeats, it was like 0.91 or maybe something like that, or 0.89.
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: So almost a mile.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: Um, and then a minute rest and then right back into it.
- 34:12SPEAKER_00: So yeah, we I pretty much averaged like 528 for the on reps, and then the minute rest, I was probably averaging like six oh fives for the minute the minute off reps, and then back.
- 34:23SPEAKER_00: So like if you look at my Strava, it was like pretty much like a it was pretty much like a 534, five, five mile tempo, but you'll see like the displays and everything.
- 34:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: It's like 537, 533, just because I'll do the minute offs.
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: Um, and then so that was about 10 and a half miles of work with the cooldown uh warm-up, and then afternoon I came back and I did um eight by three and a half minutes at 510 pace with one minute rest, with that that came out to be like 520 miles back, like for six miles.
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: So basically like then another tempo, pretty much, right?
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: But it was like 523, 524 average pretty much.
- 34:57SPEAKER_00: So I came back in the afternoon and did something way quicker.
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: Not no not way quicker, but I did something a little bit quicker, but longer volume as well.
- 35:05SPEAKER_00: So so both sessions were like a really good volume.
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: So it was over it was almost a 20 mile a day.
- 35:09SPEAKER_00: It was like 19 miles on a day.
- 35:11SPEAKER_00: Uh, which last year, you know, I was probably doing like 12, 13, 14 mile like double T days.
- 35:18SPEAKER_00: Now this block I'm doing like 17 to almost 20 mile double T days, which I think has been helping.
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: And then another thing was like, all right, let's do fast long runs too.
- 35:27SPEAKER_00: Like let's get my body used to being tired on after doing double T two days before, right?
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: And let's it's just run on tired legs, but run fast.
- 35:36SPEAKER_00: So like I've been doing like fast long runs, like 6-0s, 6 610s for 14 for 13 miles, and then last week was my first ever time like doing like a sub-six average, uh 14-mile long run where my last five miles were 520 tube average, right?
- 35:52SPEAKER_00: And I've never done that sub before, right?
- 35:54SPEAKER_00: So definitely it's a completely different like training block this year from last year, which by I'm also like very confident where I could possibly be in three weeks, you know, going into the half marriage.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 36:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:05SPEAKER_02: How are you picking the faster pace?
- 36:07SPEAKER_02: Those those sub uh six for your long runners be faster.
- 36:11SPEAKER_02: You're going off heart rate, you're just picking off speedy doing your threshold, like yeah, so I yeah.
- 36:15SPEAKER_00: So I I yeah, I I like to um look at my heart rate a lot just because I I want to make sure I'm not going too hard.
- 36:22SPEAKER_00: Like I know on like on workouts, I know if I'm at like 185 early on or 180, I know like I'm my body's just really tired, or like this is just a way too fast, right?
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: Um but also I put into account like okay, I am in Florida, so I gotta add like 10 beats per minute, realistically, so like it's just so hot here and humid that like your arm back gonna be you know 10 to 15.
- 36:44SPEAKER_00: Higher from the gate, yeah.
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: Higher from the gate, right?
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: But yeah, but yeah, I like to look at my heart rate a lot.
- 36:49SPEAKER_00: Um and I I don't want to depend on it, but I do like to look at, like I said, just to make sure I'm not overdoing it, right?
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: And if I see like 180, 185 early on, I might just slow it down or you know, gotcha, you know, cut it.
- 37:00SPEAKER_00: But for the for this whole block, I've been very smart with it, and I I have been like, you know, my heart rate has been like where it needs to be, and I make sure it is.
- 37:09SPEAKER_00: And I think it's definitely been better too.
- 37:11SPEAKER_00: Like, I mean, the last two workouts, I think my my my average hard was probably like in the 150s, which is really good for being in Florida too.
- 37:18SPEAKER_00: So, you know, um, so yeah, it's gonna play off in Philly.
- 37:23SPEAKER_00: I'm praying for it.
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: I'm praying for it, man.
- 37:25SPEAKER_02: Should be a good day.
- 37:26SPEAKER_02: You mentioned you a Jakob guy, like uh, why double threshold for you?
- 37:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um I I I I think I think for me, especially for a guy who doesn't do high mileage, like like I mean, I know if I'm going to Philly, like I have a bunch of friends who are running like 90, 100 miles, and I'm racing them, right?
- 37:43SPEAKER_00: And but I mean myself and my body, I just know that at this point in my life I can't do that much mileage.
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: But I'm the only one in that in my friend group right now.
- 37:51SPEAKER_00: Um, or I know people that are racing that like that's dabbling in the double threshold.
- 37:57SPEAKER_00: So I know that is like another outlet of me like getting in more volume and like everything else will fall into place.
- 38:03SPEAKER_00: So if I'm doing double threshold, if I do it right, um, and I know I'm doing it right because I can see the results on the Malarmas and everything.
- 38:09SPEAKER_00: But if I if I I know like for a fact, if I do double threshold, I could have like I could I could have that edge as well.
- 38:17SPEAKER_00: Like they're doing more mileage, but I know I'm doing double T where like I'm doing like more volume work and I know like it's gonna probably pay off as well.
- 38:25SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, I'm not saying like I'm gonna freaking run like a 62, 63, but I do know I could, I think I I'm pretty sure I could definitely PR 100%.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: Um and I think double threshold has definitely helped me guard there.
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: Because I because you know, like last year, like I said, it was it was a test.
- 38:39SPEAKER_00: Like I was like, let me test this out.
- 38:41SPEAKER_00: If if my body reacts well to it, then I think I'm gonna, you know, keep doing it for other blocks.
- 38:45SPEAKER_00: And I and it did.
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: So this so I'm you know, same thing this year, you know, this summer, back to double T, and we'll see how I react to it.
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: But you know, we've like I like I said we made changes.
- 38:54SPEAKER_00: So faster long runs, longer sessions, faster sessions, but controlled, right?
- 39:00SPEAKER_00: So you're not you're not going super, super fast.
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: Because the whole point of DT is to be able to do like two sessions at a controlled pace where like you're not gonna feel mad tired the next day, right?
- 39:12SPEAKER_00: You want to do two really good sessions where you're not burning yourself out, uh, which I think I've been very disciplined in like not overdoing it, um, which is key to not overdo it, right?
- 39:24SPEAKER_02: How do you how do you keep that from making it two races instead of like keeping it controlled?
- 39:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: Um well, whoa, whoa.
- 39:35SPEAKER_00: That's that's a good question.
- 39:36SPEAKER_00: I mean I think it's just from I mean, I I think I'm just so like mature now where I don't need to prove to myself on workout days that I'm that I'm fast.
- 39:48SPEAKER_00: Like I already proved to myself that you know if someone tells me I'm I can't do something, I can do it, right?
- 39:53SPEAKER_00: Like from four years ago, I proved to myself that I can make a team, I can drop my times, I can run fast.
- 39:57SPEAKER_00: So I'm not gonna prove to myself in a workout that you know you know that I can do it because it's all I leave that for race day, 100%.
- 40:05SPEAKER_00: You know, so um yeah, uh I gotta prove to myself is you know, can I be disciplined enough to put in the work I need that I that I know I need to put in to be great, you know, later on in the fall when it's but it really matters.
- 40:19SPEAKER_00: So that's what I'm thinking about every single day.
- 40:21SPEAKER_00: Uh, even because I do a lot of my double tea, uh, you probably see like uh on on on uh on treadmills, right?
- 40:27SPEAKER_00: So I go to the woodwinds and I and definitely a yakub thing too.
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it is um yeah, it is a yak up thing.
- 40:35SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, I do my a lot of my double tea on the on the on the treadmill.
- 40:38SPEAKER_00: And the reason being is one, I'm in Florida, so in the afternoon, it's already the feels like 101, 102, you know, high 90s, and the humidity is once again 80, 70 percent already, uh still in the afternoon, and you you just can't get efficient work in that type of climate, you know.
- 40:57SPEAKER_00: You know, I do most of my my morning sessions outside for sure, because it uh like I said at 5:36 to 6 a.m.
- 41:02SPEAKER_00: You know, the sun's not even out, so I can get the work done, and uh, and although it's still very humid, the sun's not out, so I got I can get the work done.
- 41:09SPEAKER_00: But I can't come back in the afternoon and do, like I said, yesterday I did eight by three and a half minutes.
- 41:14SPEAKER_00: That was eight point, I think it was like eight point six miles of work altogether, and I think it was a 5.50 average.
- 41:20SPEAKER_00: I can I could not do that.
- 41:21SPEAKER_00: If I went outside and did that yesterday, I would have died.
- 41:23SPEAKER_00: Like I couldn't do that yesterday in in the sun in Florida.
- 41:26SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, no.
- 41:27SPEAKER_00: I would have probably like just stopped the workout, been on the floor, passing out, and but would have had to come get me, like it would have been that bad.
- 41:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but on the treadmill, you know, I go in and it's so it's so efficient.
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: And um, even like yesterday, like there was a point in my run when I was running, and you know, it was it was the pace was 5'10, and I felt so good, and all I have to do is press a button and it goes, it goes 505.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I know another button, it goes at 502, you know, another button, I'm at 455.
- 41:57SPEAKER_00: And I was I was so eager to do it because I'm like, yo, I feel so good right now.
- 42:01SPEAKER_00: But I had to stop myself and like no no no save that for race day.
- 42:04SPEAKER_00: Because you you I know I have it, I know I do, I know I have it, but I gotta save it for race day.
- 42:08SPEAKER_00: So yeah, you know, it's just it's all about being disciplined and knowing, you know, there's there's a time for everything, and the time right now is just to put the simple work in, you know.
- 42:17SPEAKER_00: There's a guy on Instagram, um, his name is uh on his what's his name?
- 42:24SPEAKER_00: I think it's higher up bonus.
- 42:25SPEAKER_00: You know higher upgonis?
- 42:28SPEAKER_00: He he's a yeah, he's a pretty cool like motivational spirit guy.
- 42:30SPEAKER_00: But he has he has this thing where he says um it isn't simple, but it is I think is that how it goes?
- 42:37SPEAKER_00: It isn't simple, but it is easy, I think.
- 42:40SPEAKER_00: Um I think I think that's I think that's how it goes.
- 42:43SPEAKER_00: I'm I might have it missed up, but it's something like that, where like it isn't simple, but it is easy.
- 42:48SPEAKER_00: Like, so the work you're doing right now, like it's not easy, but it is it is simple to get good at what you're doing if you do consistently, right?
- 42:56SPEAKER_00: Like it's not it's not easy at all.
- 42:58SPEAKER_00: Like what whatsoever, like anything you you try to strive for in life, it's not easy.
- 43:02SPEAKER_00: But the concept of getting there and the concept of like doing what you gotta do, it is very simple things, but it's not easy because you got you gotta be committed, you gotta have the discipline, like I said, you got you gotta have the mindset of not giving up and pushing yourself when things get hard.
- 43:17SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, all those things are yeah, you know, like it's simple things like when you say a lot, oh yeah, just don't give up, bro.
- 43:22SPEAKER_00: You know, just go for a 10-mile run.
- 43:24SPEAKER_00: You know, it's you know, it's simple to say it.
- 43:26SPEAKER_00: You know, but you know, you know, so yeah, I mean that's a mindset, man.
- 43:33SPEAKER_00: You gotta have it, you gotta have.
- 43:35SPEAKER_02: Is that how you keep me, sis?
- 43:37SPEAKER_02: It's a mindset and pretty much a habit, I take it at this point.
- 43:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:41SPEAKER_00: I mean, I I tell myself it's all gonna be worth it in the end.
- 43:44SPEAKER_00: So and even and even if it's not, like even if even if I go out and don't have the best race in my life, right?
- 43:51SPEAKER_00: I I know for a fact it's still gonna pay off in the end, right?
- 43:55SPEAKER_00: Like everything I'll do now just proves myself that I could push myself to be a better dad.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: Husband, you know, um, brother, you know, son-in-law, like, you know, because running is only so much part of my life.
- 44:06SPEAKER_00: Like, all everything I do is also contributes to like other areas of my life too.
- 44:11SPEAKER_00: So if I can be consistent here, I can be consistent in, you know, just being a great person, you know, being a great farming man and doing all that.
- 44:19SPEAKER_00: So even if I don't have the get a good race, I know that I still put in the work and I could put that work into something else too that I love, right?
- 44:26SPEAKER_00: Which is my family, which is you know my job, you know, I could I could do all other stuff with it too.
- 44:30SPEAKER_00: So, you know, um, you know, like I said, like running is awesome, but at the same time, it also has taught me many other things of of family and you know, just you know, being um working hard for your family, right?
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: And improving to my daughter too, like, you know, once she grows up, you know, she could be she could be good at stuff, you know.
- 44:47SPEAKER_00: And her mom too was a runner, she ran 17, 15 to 5k, bro.
- 44:50SPEAKER_00: Ooh, okay.
- 44:52SPEAKER_00: Send the family.
- 44:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, 17, 15 to 5k.
- 44:55SPEAKER_00: So she's you know, she was pretty quick.
- 44:56SPEAKER_00: I mean, she was in but we were we were back in school together.
- 44:58SPEAKER_00: So um but yeah, yeah, man.
- 45:02SPEAKER_02: Gee, I've seen you post dad first a lot, and you just touched a lot on it and what that means to you.
- 45:06SPEAKER_02: Like, um, what has your daughter and family taught you about being an athlete now?
- 45:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh, I mean, you know, it taught me it really taught me just it opened up my heart, to be honest.
- 45:20SPEAKER_00: It opened up my heart, to be honest, for sure.
- 45:22SPEAKER_00: Um Especially like, you know, we me we got married in December too.
- 45:26SPEAKER_00: So now we're like, you know, we're uh like officially like, you know, uh one covenant, right?
- 45:31SPEAKER_00: I appreciate it, right?
- 45:32SPEAKER_00: So we're actually especially officially our one covenant under God, right?
- 45:36SPEAKER_00: And um, you know, it's opened up my heart just to be more um give people more grace, you know, understand people more, you know, not be kind of slow to uh to reacting and like be more understanding, um, you know, to control my emotions too, especially if having like a little girl.
- 45:53SPEAKER_00: Seeing her smile, man, seeing her hug me when I come home.
- 45:55SPEAKER_00: Daddy's home, you know, coming and running to me, like, you know, this is the best feeling ever.
- 45:58SPEAKER_00: So for real, it definitely has just um showed me how how to love better, how how to take care of people better, um, you know, how to be there for people, right?
- 46:07SPEAKER_00: And you know, just being open to like listening to other people and like um, like I said, it's just being there for the man and showing love.
- 46:16SPEAKER_00: So I think it's definitely been a big change in my life.
- 46:19SPEAKER_00: And definitely was hard in my life because you know, we had her at the end of college.
- 46:25SPEAKER_00: So like like she was born literally a week before my last race, which no, the week of my last race, actually.
- 46:33SPEAKER_00: So so remember earlier I said I read 920, uh that you're like my night nine nine twenty seabull.
- 46:40SPEAKER_00: So before that race, my daughter was born two days before that race.
- 46:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, wow.
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: So yeah, yeah.
- 46:49SPEAKER_00: She was born I think that Wednesday.
- 46:51SPEAKER_00: She was born that Wednesday, and then I went to that race that Friday.
- 46:57SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, so white people still in the hospital.
- 46:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: Um you know, I went yeah, I went to that race that Friday.
- 47:04SPEAKER_00: And then once again, newborn baby in the hospital.
- 47:08SPEAKER_00: So I had no sleep.
- 47:09SPEAKER_00: I had to run for three days because I was it was like once again, it was all about her and and Gianna at the time.
- 47:15SPEAKER_00: So no sleep, no, um, no, no running.
- 47:18SPEAKER_00: I was just holding her and you know, just you know, just taking care of her.
- 47:23SPEAKER_00: Friday comes around, and my coach is like, Are you coming to the race?
- 47:26SPEAKER_00: Like, you know you don't have to, right?
- 47:27SPEAKER_00: I'm like, no, I'm gonna come.
- 47:28SPEAKER_00: This is my last collision race.
- 47:29SPEAKER_00: I gotta come, man.
- 47:30SPEAKER_00: He's like, Alright, I poked to the race.
- 47:32SPEAKER_00: Everyone can tell I'm tired, but they're like, Oh, congrats on the baby.
- 47:34SPEAKER_00: I'm like, thank you, they thank you.
- 47:36SPEAKER_00: But everyone, they they could tell I'm tired, you know.
- 47:38SPEAKER_00: I'm like, this the whole nut the whole day.
- 47:41SPEAKER_00: You know, I do my warm-up, you know.
- 47:42SPEAKER_00: The good thing is I didn't race until like nine, that nine a p.m.
- 47:46SPEAKER_00: that night in uh at in Florida.
- 47:47SPEAKER_00: So it was like, you know, the sun was down, the weather was felt really good, like probably like 75 degrees.
- 47:52SPEAKER_00: So it wasn't too bad.
- 47:54SPEAKER_00: Um, did my warm-up though, and I went to coach, I'm like, Coach, I'm not gonna lie, I might come last in this race.
- 48:01SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I'm sorry, man, but I'm just so dead.
- 48:05SPEAKER_00: He's like, buddy, you had a great career.
- 48:07SPEAKER_00: I'm proud of you.
- 48:08SPEAKER_00: You're a dad now.
- 48:08SPEAKER_00: Just go out there and just have fun.
- 48:10SPEAKER_00: I'm like, all right.
- 48:11SPEAKER_00: I go out there, I break the school record.
- 48:13SPEAKER_00: So there's that.
- 48:15SPEAKER_00: I go out there and I broke the school record.
- 48:18SPEAKER_00: Well, it wasn't that fast at time, because it was like it was, I think it was like 9.32, and I ran like 929 or something, 928.
- 48:24SPEAKER_00: But for me, it was a big encolishment because you know, new dad, no sleep, no running.
- 48:30SPEAKER_00: I can't I come and run under 930 with the hernia at the time too.
- 48:34SPEAKER_00: Remember, I had the hernia at the time.
- 48:35SPEAKER_00: So it was it was so many days that went into that race where it was like I shouldn't have run 920s in a in a steeple chase, but I did.
- 48:42SPEAKER_00: By the grace of God, I did.
- 48:44SPEAKER_00: And you know, so it was just it was just it was a good ending to the collision career for sure.
- 48:47SPEAKER_00: Um, it was fun, yeah.
- 48:49SPEAKER_00: And then you go back to the hospital.
- 48:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, then we go back to the hospital.
- 48:53SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 48:54SPEAKER_00: Then we go back to the hospital um the next day, pack it up, and then we went back home.
- 48:58SPEAKER_00: And then I took like two months off from there, though.
- 49:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I took like two months off.
- 49:02SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, it took like two months off.
- 49:04SPEAKER_00: Oh, no, maybe not made like a month off.
- 49:07SPEAKER_00: Sorted running a little bit here and there, but then I had my doctor's appointments, and then uh we said we set the surgery date and then got the surgery that that fall.
- 49:14SPEAKER_02: So Gio 25, uh 1510, 5k.
- 49:21SPEAKER_02: 69 minute half you're training for Philly this fall, which is probably gonna be a PR by the sound of everything, and your confidence.
- 49:29SPEAKER_02: Where does this go?
- 49:32SPEAKER_00: Where does this go?
- 49:33SPEAKER_00: Where does this go?
- 49:34SPEAKER_00: This goes as far as the Lord will let me take it, man, to be honest.
- 49:38SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know, it you know, I mean that's that's really it, man.
- 49:41SPEAKER_00: Because I he gave me the gift of running, so I I now have to steward it well, right?
- 49:46SPEAKER_00: So all glory to him, and I'm gonna as as as far as I can take it out, I'm gonna take it.
- 49:50SPEAKER_00: You know, you know, the the the the dream is honestly, like, you know, to run for Haiti one day, because I am Haitian.
- 49:55SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 49:56SPEAKER_00: Um I'm Dominican, dude.
- 49:58SPEAKER_00: So neighbors.
- 50:02SPEAKER_00: You know, I mean my parents were born in Haiti, but I was born in the States, but I obviously have like blood lineage to Haiti.
- 50:08SPEAKER_00: So, you know, if one day if I could run for the country, that'd be awesome, you know.
- 50:12SPEAKER_00: That'd be amazing.
- 50:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for sure.
- 50:13SPEAKER_00: That'd be that, you know, that'd be pretty cool, you know.
- 50:14SPEAKER_00: So um, I mean, if I if I could take it there and represent the country, that'd be sick, man.
- 50:18SPEAKER_00: So that that would definitely be a dream.
- 50:20SPEAKER_00: But honestly, you know, um, I just started posting a lot on Instagram as you can tell, like July was my thing.
- 50:26SPEAKER_00: I started posting like consistently.
- 50:27SPEAKER_00: And since July, I gained like probably 3k followers, and you know, I want to reach people and motivate people.
- 50:32SPEAKER_00: I had so many people DMing me like every day now, just actually for tips, actually for motivation advice.
- 50:37SPEAKER_00: And I love that, man.
- 50:38SPEAKER_00: Like I said, I love helping people, I love giving back.
- 50:41SPEAKER_00: So, you know, if I could take this to where to a place where like you know, I could help help younger kids or like help young adults that just want to be better in the sport, you know, I'm all for it, man.
- 50:49SPEAKER_00: You know, I'm all for helping people and helping people get better, you know, especially like family guys, especially like um dads as well.
- 50:56SPEAKER_00: Like, especially girl, especially girl dads, right?
- 50:58SPEAKER_00: You know, you have a daughter, your son, or whatever, you know, I'm I'm now in that position where like I'm a dad, but I'm young, but I'm still working out, but I I have I have a job though, but I still have a wife of two.
- 51:07SPEAKER_00: So I'm balanced in so many things where I can relate to a lot of people now.
- 51:10SPEAKER_00: And if I could just help someone out there, even if it's one person, man.
- 51:13SPEAKER_00: Like one, like every post that if it if one post could just reach one person to motivate them and help them, or have give them the confidence to reach out to me and say, hey man, like can you tell me about this or can you help me with this?
- 51:24SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, I'm all for it.
- 51:25SPEAKER_00: So um yeah, yeah, that's the goal, man.
- 51:27SPEAKER_00: It's to help people.
- 51:28SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, keep striving to be the best that I could be, obviously.
- 51:31SPEAKER_00: And um, and you know, see see see see see where I go with it.
- 51:34SPEAKER_02: So for sure.
- 51:36SPEAKER_02: That's dope, man.
- 51:36SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm looking forward to your race in Philly.
- 51:39SPEAKER_02: Uh wait, what would you run in Haiti?
- 51:41SPEAKER_02: Are you doing the half for Haiti or are you doing the full for Haiti?
- 51:45SPEAKER_00: So I haven't done a full yet, but a full is coming soon.
- 51:48SPEAKER_00: And if I do a full, the goal would be to run under 230 for my first full.
- 51:52SPEAKER_00: So so yeah, that would be my goal.
- 51:54SPEAKER_00: Um but um yeah, I don't know.
- 51:57SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 51:58SPEAKER_00: Uh either or either or, you know.
- 52:00SPEAKER_00: I mean, I know I I'm still young, so I got some few years to like kind of be more get better, be more competitive.
- 52:08SPEAKER_00: So obviously the goal would to be like to be under 220 in a marathon for sure.
- 52:13SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, I haven't ran one yet.
- 52:15SPEAKER_00: So uh we'll see what I do my first marathon.
- 52:18SPEAKER_00: You know, I'm actually thinking about doing um uh what's it called?
- 52:22SPEAKER_00: The one in Phoenix, uh Marathon Project.
- 52:24SPEAKER_00: Oh Mesa.
- 52:25SPEAKER_00: Oh, marathon project, okay.
- 52:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, marathon project, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 52:28SPEAKER_00: I'm thinking about doing that one.
- 52:29SPEAKER_00: So um, so that'll be my first one in December.
- 52:31SPEAKER_00: But if not, yeah, probably sometime next year, I'll do one.
- 52:34SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, man, Philly should be really fun, you know, hoping to do some big things there.
- 52:39SPEAKER_00: Um and yeah, I mean, we'll just see what happens.
- 52:43SPEAKER_00: Three weeks out, man.
- 52:44SPEAKER_02: Three weeks out.
- 52:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, it's it's close.
- 52:46SPEAKER_00: It's close, it's close.
- 52:47SPEAKER_02: How how you feeling for it?
- 52:50SPEAKER_00: I'm feeling good.
- 52:51SPEAKER_00: I'm feeling good, you know.
- 52:52SPEAKER_00: Uh, I think if I go in in there confidently and knowing knowing that I could run fast, which I I know I can, you know, you like I said, you just gotta believe in yourself, man.
- 53:03SPEAKER_00: You gotta believe in yourself and you gotta have the mindset to know that you can hold that pace.
- 53:07SPEAKER_00: And even if you don't feel good, you just gotta tell it so that you feel good and keep going.
- 53:10SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I think, you know, I I think I've said this on my Instagram too, but I would love to run anywhere in the 67 to 68 minutes, it would be would be nice.
- 53:18SPEAKER_00: Um, and that which would be a huge PR.
- 53:20SPEAKER_00: So yeah, um, yeah, I can if I can do that, um, and I know I did things right.
- 53:24SPEAKER_00: Um, so yeah, I can't wait for it.
- 53:26SPEAKER_00: And I obviously, like I said, I got a morning.
- 53:28SPEAKER_00: You know, I'm I'm one of their ambassadors, so they they they send me products all the time.
- 53:32SPEAKER_00: So I got my more with me as well.
- 53:34SPEAKER_00: So I'll be filled I'll be fueled up pretty well for the race.
- 53:36SPEAKER_00: Um and yeah, yeah, it should be good, man.
- 53:39SPEAKER_00: I I'm feeling confident though.
- 53:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I I'm I'm racing with a few of my boys, and they're all very fast guys, too.
- 53:45SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, 220 marathoners, you know, 1435 guys.
- 53:49SPEAKER_00: So I'll be I have them with me, you know, just pushing me too.
- 53:51SPEAKER_00: So, you know, I think I think every single one of us can have a good day.
- 53:54SPEAKER_02: That's gonna be fun, man.
- 53:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's gonna be good.
- 53:58SPEAKER_02: G I appreciate you, man.
- 54:00SPEAKER_02: Thanks for coming on.
- 54:01SPEAKER_02: I'm looking forward to these three weeks here because I have a race a few weeks after yours, so I'll be taking some motivation this way, some inspiration.
- 54:09SPEAKER_02: But uh, man, we'll talk here and thanks for coming on and love what you're doing, man.
- 54:13SPEAKER_02: Keep it going.
- 54:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, thank you, man.
- 54:14SPEAKER_00: I appreciate you having me on, and um, you know, hopefully we we can do it again soon.
