Transcript
- 0:00Hello and welcome to Blush, the world's first Wellness show
- 0:02that's actually entertaining. I'm Heva and I quit law so I can
- 0:06help you look and feel your best.
- 0:08Together we got into food, nutrition, all the latest
- 0:11Wellness trends. But we also laugh, get silly,
- 0:13drop a few F OPS and go on a million tangents.
- 0:17So if that sounds like your vibe, we're about to be best
- 0:19friends. Hi, Hello cutie Patootie.
- 0:23Welcome to another episode of Blush.
- 0:25I mean, I guess you've already heard all that in an intro.
- 0:28I have my journal here with me. This is the journal that I do my
- 0:32morning pages in. And I have some notes for this
- 0:34episode in here cuz the printer continues to be in no man's
- 0:38land. If you could only see what I'm
- 0:42looking at here. This room needs a fucking
- 0:44makeover but there are obstacles in the way and honestly
- 0:50something people don't realize is lights are massive.
- 0:54They take up a lot of fucking space.
- 0:55Like what are other people doing with their lights?
- 0:57Because I feel like I am lucky enough to live in a home where
- 1:02there is abundant space for New York City and I, I like, I don't
- 1:06know what the fuck to do with all these lights that are all
- 1:08over it like that. It's taking over.
- 1:09It's honestly, it's like AB and H store in here.
- 1:11It's like a certain section of Best Buy in this apartment.
- 1:16Anyway, that's neither here nor there.
- 1:17So we are having a pretty fucking nutty day.
- 1:21I have no blunders anymore. OK?
- 1:24I have had to. I don't know if OK, I'm gonna
- 1:30OK, you know what? I'll tell you what happened to
- 1:32both wonders. But I'm mentally unwell.
- 1:35Also, I'm recording, I'm kind of pre recording a little bit, not
- 1:38to break the 4th wall because I'm going to Australia.
- 1:40So I feel like I just, I worry that you're going to get
- 1:45different segments of this story on different platforms in a
- 1:49weird timeline. So I'll just be fully
- 1:51transparent that I am pre recording this.
- 1:54OK. So I think you might recall my
- 1:56Vitamix had an issue, I think it was weeks ago, maybe even a
- 2:01couple months ago at this point where it was just like it caused
- 2:04like a power outage in New York City.
- 2:06Basically everywhere I plug in my Vitamix, it would pop the
- 2:11fuse. It was like a whole shit show.
- 2:13So what I haven't mentioned is literally years ago, like I want
- 2:18to say in 2021, there was an incident where I noticed
- 2:25something seeping out of the blender cup.
- 2:28And literally Vitamix says if this happens like you, this is
- 2:32malfunctioned, you can't use it anymore.
- 2:34And I was like, I'm sure it's fine 'cause that's the type of
- 2:38crazy ass bitch I am. Like I, I have two speeds.
- 2:42It's either so Laxa basical that it's like everyone's going to
- 2:47catch on fire because you are just not paying attention, or
- 2:50it's hyper vigilant to like a psychotic level and there's no
- 2:54in between. As a human being, something I
- 2:57really struggle with is balance. That's probably why I get on
- 3:00this podcast, get on this fucking mic and talk about
- 3:03balance so much because I'm talking to myself.
- 3:05Like, bitch, you got to find a little bit of balance anyway.
- 3:08So I'm like, whatever, I'm sure it's fine.
- 3:10No. And then for the past, I don't
- 3:13know, maybe like a year or so, every time I put the blender
- 3:17cup, so like not on the Vitamix motor base, but every time I put
- 3:21it down on a counter or something, there is wet black
- 3:24shit underneath. So again, that probably should
- 3:27have been a good cue. Like maybe you shouldn't be
- 3:30using this. Like, what the fuck is all this
- 3:31black stuff coming out of the bottom?
- 3:33Like probably not a good idea. And then there was that incident
- 3:36with a, you know, power outage gate 2025 a few weeks ago.
- 3:41So we dealt with that and I dealt with that.
- 3:43I mean, I just put it away. I didn't use it for a while.
- 3:46I do have a backup blender. It's not as good as my regular
- 3:50blender, but you know, there's a blender, whatever.
- 3:53So I just started using the other blender.
- 3:55And then recently I've started playing with the Vitamix a tiny
- 3:59bit, not too much. And it's, it's fine.
- 4:01Everything's been fine. But I've, I've, I've made a
- 4:04mental note that I probably need a new Vitamix soon.
- 4:07Anyway, Fast forward to yesterday, I go to make a
- 4:12dressing and I'm filming it for TikTok by the way.
- 4:16And I use the other blender, not the Vitamix.
- 4:19And the other one is one of those where it has several
- 4:23different cups like with different sizes.
- 4:26And then there's a screw on lid that has a blade on one side and
- 4:31the other side of it attaches to the machine part of the blender.
- 4:38So I put all the things for the dressing in the cup.
- 4:42I screw on the lid and I go to put it onto the base and I, I
- 4:47just, something catches my eye and I look back and I'm like,
- 4:51what is that? And then I swear I see movement
- 4:55and then I look a little bit closer.
- 5:03I look a little bit closer. There are maggots.
- 5:07There are like fucking thousands of maggots crawling out of the
- 5:13base thing of the fucking blender.
- 5:16I, I'm just speechless. Like I scream, I back away from
- 5:20it and I'm just staring at it for a good 5 minutes.
- 5:25Ozzy was like, hey, what? Like are you OK?
- 5:27And I'm staring at it like I've seen a fucking ghost.
- 5:29Like, I'm staring like he must have thought I.
- 5:31He's like, oh, she's full schizophrenic now.
- 5:35We've been waiting for the visions to start.
- 5:37No, she's in a full manic episode.
- 5:39Like, this bitch is not OK. Like, I mean, it looks like I
- 5:43was on drugs and, like, seeing things like those urban legends
- 5:47of people taking mushrooms and then thinking that they're a
- 5:50class of orange juice that can't tip over.
- 5:52Have you heard that urban legend?
- 5:53Did someone tell you? Oh, a friend of a friend of mine
- 5:56tried mushrooms one time, and then he thought he was a glass
- 5:58of orange juice. And now he's permanently stuck
- 6:01thinking he's a glass of orange juice and he's in a metal
- 6:03facility. And that's why I don't do drugs.
- 6:05Yeah, that's not true. That's like a literal urban
- 6:08legend that someone made-up. And for some reason, it's really
- 6:11made the rounds. There are such, like, nutty
- 6:13urban legends about drugs out there.
- 6:15It's, like, kind of wild. Anyway, neither here nor there.
- 6:19That's what it must have looked like to Ozzy.
- 6:21Like I was just staring, freaked out, speechless, couldn't talk.
- 6:26So he's like, I'll deal with it. And he's like tapping, tapping.
- 6:29I mean, the maggots never stopped coming.
- 6:32Like it was horrifying. I've no idea how the fuck they
- 6:35got in there. So I just threw away that part
- 6:39of it. I kept the cup and the machine
- 6:41and stuff because there's no evidence that there's maggots
- 6:43anywhere else. We did throw away that thing,
- 6:45despite Aussie trying very hard for very long to get all the
- 6:49maggots out. God only knows how many fucking
- 6:51maggots are in that little shit. I am horrified.
- 6:55Like there are like what the fuck?
- 6:59Also I have another question, just kind of like a sciency
- 7:02question. Where do maggots come from?
- 7:06Like do they, you know, like matters never create, neither
- 7:10created nor destroyed. Like what?
- 7:11Like how like are there maggot eggs?
- 7:14Like with like does food turn 'cause you know when food gets
- 7:18old and spoils it can get maggots, right?
- 7:20I've had another maggot incident before with mushrooms.
- 7:24Not today I can't, I cannot talk about it today.
- 7:29I've been dealt with enough. I really can't get into it
- 7:32today. But like, where do they come
- 7:34from? Like the few the food just
- 7:37transforms into maggots. Is it is it like a chemical
- 7:42reaction? Is it you know, the glucose in
- 7:46the food plus enough oxygen over enough time equals maggots?
- 7:51Like what? Where do they come from?
- 7:52I just want to understand Or do they are maggots just kind of
- 7:56everywhere and then they fester play.
- 7:58I I just don't understand the life cycle and the creation
- 8:04process of maggots. If someone could explain that to
- 8:07me, maybe I could ask ChatGPT, but not today, because I feel
- 8:10like we did a lot of ChatGPT work last week, so not so much
- 8:14ChatGPT today. But yeah, so that was really
- 8:18traumatizing. And then I still really wanted
- 8:22the dressing. I really wanted to taste it.
- 8:24Like I I have this vision for a dressing and I want to make it
- 8:26for an upcoming plush kitchen episode.
- 8:29So I'm trying to test out this recipe and I was really excited
- 8:32to have it. So I pull out the Vitamix and I
- 8:35make it in there and then I pour it into a jar and I was looking
- 8:39at it and I was like, it's really Gray.
- 8:43Her dressing that should be yellow like it's kind of
- 8:47shockingly Gray like just not a normal color.
- 8:51But I tasted it. It tasted kind of fine and I eat
- 8:54it and it was yummy. So like I literally ate it.
- 8:57I made a salad with it, but the whole time I was like, this
- 9:00doesn't feel right. There's something wrong about
- 9:03this and I don't like again, it tasted fine, but just something
- 9:07was setting off my Spidey senses.
- 9:09So after I finish eating, only after I find it like the fact
- 9:12that I'm, I did throw up today, we should be checked in on.
- 9:17So after I finish eating, I say to Ossie, I was like, hey, I
- 9:20think we need to get rid of the Vitamix.
- 9:21And he said why? And I said I think there's
- 9:23something wrong. And he said why?
- 9:25And I said, well, look at what color that Dijon dressing is.
- 9:31And it's it's Gray. It's literally fucking Gray.
- 9:33I don't know how else to say that.
- 9:35You know, that Gray sweater that I seem to live in this season,
- 9:38it was that fucking color. Like it wasn't yellow.
- 9:41It was, there's no other there. Well, I don't even know what the
- 9:43explanation is. And so he's like, Are you sure?
- 9:47And so we decided to put some soy milk in the blender and
- 9:49blend it and see what happens with that.
- 9:51Just work with something white and see what happens.
- 9:53Not only did it turn Gray, but the fumes, the fumes that were
- 9:59coming out of that thing, it was repulsive.
- 10:03So we immediately threw that away.
- 10:05And I now have no fucking blender.
- 10:07And if you know anything about me, you know the blender is the
- 10:11hardest working appliance in this house.
- 10:14Quite frankly, the blender is the hardest working object
- 10:19living or dead in this house. Other than maybe the fucking
- 10:23maggots. Those maggots, let me tell you,
- 10:26those little shits were moving around.
- 10:27They were dancing around like I think those maggots have been in
- 10:30my food. They've been eating nice
- 10:33healthy, energy generating mood. Those things had some fucking
- 10:37stamina. They were doing backflips there.
- 10:40It was like Cirque du Soleil in that blender base.
- 10:43Anyway, I ordered a new blade for the backup blender 'cause
- 10:46that's only $32 apparently, although shipping was 999, which
- 10:51we need to talk about, but that's neither here nor there.
- 10:54And so yeah, that'll come and I'm sure I'll get a new Vitamix
- 10:59at some point somehow, some way. But I that's that's that's a
- 11:05bridge we will cross another day Anyway.
- 11:09So I wanted to do this episode because I feel like this year
- 11:13was a big self-care year for me. It was a big year where I just
- 11:19changed so many things about my lifestyle.
- 11:23I started fucking washing my face kind of for the first time
- 11:27ever, at least consistently. I started doing skin care.
- 11:31I did so many home decluttering and reorganization projects.
- 11:36I came up with new morning and evening routines.
- 11:39I mean, in so many ways, I would say I up leveled my personal
- 11:44care this year. And really that's because to be
- 11:47fully honest and transparent, it's because historically I've
- 11:51had a really bad depression. And last year it was the worst
- 11:54it's ever been. And this year was the first time
- 11:58of my adult life where I consistently didn't have
- 12:02depression. So I just suddenly had way more
- 12:06energy and was able to just do things that I never did before.
- 12:09And I looked around and I was like, wow, I am living like a
- 12:12filthy, vile animal and no more like we're going to start living
- 12:16better. So I wanted to share a few of
- 12:21the things that I learned about and started implementing this
- 12:24year that have really, really helped contribute to me just
- 12:28feeling better about myself and showing up so much more
- 12:31confidently and energetically in the world.
- 12:34So let me get out my little journal, OK?
- 12:39And these are in no particular order, by the way.
- 12:42So number one is Guacha and face lymphatic drainage.
- 12:47So I actually did Sculptra earlier this year, which if you
- 12:55don't know, go back to my episode with my dermatologist,
- 13:00Sam. Sam, her last name starts with
- 13:02AB. I don't, I don't know.
- 13:04Sam B it's a long last name. It's very Hiba coded, some might
- 13:10say. And we talked all about various
- 13:14facial treatments. And so Sculptra, my
- 13:16understanding of it, although I don't fucking remember, is they
- 13:19inject something into your skin and and it takes a while.
- 13:22It's not one of those things where you see immediate results,
- 13:25but it helps I guess your skin regenerate its own something or
- 13:31another. I don't know.
- 13:32And honestly, honestly, I don't even really know if I see
- 13:36results from it. So and it is really expensive.
- 13:39So I actually don't know if I would recommend it.
- 13:42It's just hard to say, you know, because especially with
- 13:45something that takes a while to take effect.
- 13:47Like I remember one time I got a laser treatment.
- 13:49I've had a couple laser treatments.
- 13:51I don't think I will ever do another one because they're
- 13:53really expensive. And I just like, I like to be
- 13:57able to see my results. And if I can't really see and
- 14:00perceive my results, then I'm, I'm just going to be skeptical
- 14:05of it. And I remember saying it, this
- 14:06was the different dermatologist, by the way, it was a couple
- 14:09years ago. And I remember saying to her, I
- 14:11was like, yeah, I don't know that I want to do a laser ever
- 14:14again because I feel like that laser was so expensive and I
- 14:17didn't even notice the difference.
- 14:19And she said, well, The thing is, had you not done that laser,
- 14:23your face would be more saggy now than it than it than it is
- 14:29or yeah, whatever you get where I'm going with this.
- 14:31And that's kind of a hard, it's like hard, hard to argue with
- 14:34that, you know what I mean? It's like hard.
- 14:36It's like, OK, but you know what I mean it, it's like it's kind
- 14:41of a genius pitch. So anyway, as far as sculpture
- 14:45goes, like I don't really know if I see results, but that's not
- 14:49what this is about. But I just want to tell you
- 14:51about how I started doing guasha.
- 14:55So when I got the Sculptra Sam, my dermatologist, she said now
- 15:00for five days or so, I think after the sculpture, you have to
- 15:04guasha your face. And I was like, which I don't
- 15:06know, no fucking guasha. Like, do I look like someone who
- 15:09owns a guasha? I barely own soap.
- 15:13And she was like, just fucking buy one.
- 15:16Like, why are you being so difficult about this?
- 15:19So I finally fucking bought 1, and I started to really love it.
- 15:23Like I didn't do it before. Because before it just struck me
- 15:26as one of those things, like it just sounds so superficial.
- 15:29It's like, OK, I'm just going to drag this thing across my face
- 15:32and I'm going to look better. Like, what the fuck are you
- 15:34talking about? But when I started doing it, I
- 15:37realized, no, it really does make a difference.
- 15:40So I'm not saying it makes a difference in the way of like,
- 15:43it's not going to look like you got a fucking facelift.
- 15:45Actually, I just saw this influencer today.
- 15:47Who is someone who I think embodies a lot of the things
- 15:54that I talk shit about. I actually really love her
- 15:57presence on social media and I love looking at her stories and
- 16:00she just has great energy and stuff.
- 16:03But she is someone who in my opinion doesn't says a lot of
- 16:07things wrong on social media. Like she's always trying to push
- 16:10the way that she eats is the right way to eat and the way
- 16:13that she eats is kind of radical and not normal.
- 16:16She talks a lot about things that I genuinely believe are
- 16:19absolute bullshit and are not rooted in science, like food
- 16:23combining. And she posted like a clip of
- 16:27herself doing guasha and she's like, look at my instant
- 16:30facelift. And it's like, OK, it's it's not
- 16:32an instant facelift. That's the problem.
- 16:34I think that's the problem, quite frankly, with a lot of
- 16:38holistic and alternative medicine science type things,
- 16:43it's that we're trying to sell them as something that they're
- 16:46not. Like it's no guacha is not a
- 16:49facelift. Do you know what a facelift is?
- 16:51I actually don't entirely know what it is.
- 16:54Actually. If, you know, could you tell me?
- 16:57I mean, my understanding is they make an incision and they
- 17:00fucking like, pull the skin or some show, right?
- 17:03Like Glashaw isn't going to do that.
- 17:05Like, let's stop. Or I remember there was this
- 17:07face cream that my friend sent me a while ago, and she's like,
- 17:11yeah, it's like, it's supposed to be like Botox.
- 17:13And I'm like, Botox paralyzes the muscle.
- 17:16I don't think the face cream is going to do that.
- 17:19Like, But like, yeah, Botox can reduce the appearance of fine
- 17:22lines, but not because it's doing something topically or
- 17:26even moisturizing this skin. It's going into the muscle and
- 17:29making it cease to move. Like, no fucking face scream is
- 17:32going to do that, nor should it. That would be terrifying if the
- 17:36face scream had the ability to do that.
- 17:39So yeah, I'm not saying guasha. Is this like, what's that word?
- 17:46Well, here's another word. I don't know how to.
- 17:49I've never. It's like panchea Pansea.
- 17:52Oh my God, this is so embarrassing.
- 17:55Why do I do this to myself week after week?
- 17:58I could just use words that I know how to pronounce and not
- 18:01fucking embarrass myself. I'm looking it up.
- 18:04But you know, it means a cure all.
- 18:06I think. Panacea.
- 18:08Panacea. Yeah, Panacea.
- 18:12That's what the word is. See again, I have a twofold
- 18:15problem. My first fold.
- 18:21Why does that just remind me of a vagina?
- 18:23My first fold is that I don't know how to pronounce words even
- 18:30if they're right in front of me. But the second fold is I'm not
- 18:33even sure what fucking letters are in these words because
- 18:36remember how saying I can be very laxatical and very airy?
- 18:40It's the Gemini moon, you know, nutty.
- 18:44I will see a word and just not even fully register all the
- 18:47letters that are in it and move the fuck on.
- 18:50OK, anyway, so I've been obsessed with doing guasha and
- 18:56facial lymphatic drainage on myself and quite frankly even
- 18:58manual lymphatic drainage on myself.
- 19:00I really see such results. I actually haven't really guasha
- 19:04in a while and I feel like I can see it in my face.
- 19:06It's really sagging. Maybe it's time for me to get a
- 19:08laser treatment really is kind of sagging and it just I I feel
- 19:15like it even makes my complexion feel brighter.
- 19:18I really like this one gua sha from kitsch.
- 19:21You know that brand kitsch it's a stainless steel 1 and I like
- 19:25it because A it doesn't break I've broken several gua shaws
- 19:29now B because it's stainless steel.
- 19:32I actually think it's a little bit more germ resistant and C it
- 19:35has a really thin ledge and it just it feels so good.
- 19:40I also love to massage the back of my neck with the gua sha.
- 19:44Like not only does it de puff you and just brighten everything
- 19:47up, but it fucking feels good and who doesn't want to do shit
- 19:51that feels good? OK, moving right along to number
- 19:552. So #2 I wrote the Magic of
- 20:00tidying and decluttering. But in all seriousness, it is
- 20:06fucking magic. I as soon as I came back from
- 20:10Australia at the beginning of this year in January, I started
- 20:14going on these decluttering projects, right?
- 20:16Go one room at a time, 1 section at a time, one drawer at a time.
- 20:20And quite frankly, I'm still not done.
- 20:22There is most notably the laundry room I have to do.
- 20:26I've never done that. And then this room needs a redo.
- 20:29And then I want to go on a crazy minimalist journey next year
- 20:35where I just want to get rid of half of my belongings.
- 20:38Just like however it is, I'm just going to get rid of it.
- 20:41I don't want to get too precious with it and get too stuck in it.
- 20:45Just fucking get rid of shit. That's my plan anyway.
- 20:49So I started going on these decluttering and reorganizing
- 20:54projects, but also this year I started cleaning a lot more.
- 20:58Like I started coming up with new systems.
- 21:01Like for example, I got a one of those over the sink drying racks
- 21:06that are foldable. So we don't use a dishwasher.
- 21:09We have one, but a lot of the dishes that we own, the vast
- 21:14majority really aren't dishwasher safe.
- 21:16They're kind of OK, but you really shouldn't put them in the
- 21:20dishwasher. And then most everything else we
- 21:22use also isn't dishwasher safe. So it just very few things would
- 21:26go into the dishwasher. So we just hand wash dishes.
- 21:29But what I used to do is either wait till the morning and then
- 21:33wash the dishes in the morning, or I would then when I started
- 21:37to get a little bit better or really Ozzy started doing them,
- 21:40he would watch them at night and then we'd leave them out to dry
- 21:43and then put them away in the morning.
- 21:45But something I started doing this year as I got one of those
- 21:48over the sink drying rocks and a fan.
- 21:53And so I do the dishes in the evening.
- 21:55I put the fan on. That helps them get 90% dry, if
- 21:59not 100% dry depending on how long the fan is on.
- 22:02And then I towel dry the rest. I put them away, I wipe down the
- 22:05counters and I walk out to a kitchen that is pristine,
- 22:09nothing on the counter. Everything's, you know, in its
- 22:13place, everything's beautiful and bright and whatever.
- 22:17Same thing. I just am keeping things cleaner
- 22:21and tidier and just staying on top of things better.
- 22:23Again, am I being perfect with it?
- 22:25No, but it has such a tremendous effect on my mental health.
- 22:30And again, I'm going to go so fucking hard.
- 22:33Like I really, because the part of the reason why it's so hard
- 22:38to keep things organized, to keep things, to maintain the
- 22:42decluttering and reorganization projects is because there's just
- 22:45too much stuff. And so that becomes an issue.
- 22:48But if I get rid of more stuff, I think it'll become so much
- 22:54more manageable. OK #3 OK, this is a big one and
- 23:01I know I've talked about it before, but it's really
- 23:04important to me. The wherever Walnut lip pencil
- 23:08by makeup forever, I think it's called makeup forever is the
- 23:11brand. If you just look up wherever
- 23:13walnut lip pencil, you'll find it.
- 23:15I like the regular one, not the long stay one.
- 23:18The regular one is you can sharpen it like with a pencil
- 23:22sharpener. Where is the long stay one is
- 23:24one of those where you have to twist out and I find that you it
- 23:27only twists out for like 2 minutes and then it stops.
- 23:31And so you just you, you get a lot more lip pencil out of the
- 23:34pencil one. Listen, I am someone who really
- 23:39doesn't wear a lot of makeup and I like I said, I just have not
- 23:44been a very put together person at all throughout my life.
- 23:48A lot of that is depression. A lot of that also is because I
- 23:52think in my 20s I, I really, I guess when I was 22 or so, I
- 24:02started, I developed a crush on this guy and I changed a lot of
- 24:08my personality and who I am to try to be this like cooler
- 24:12chiller version. I started going to jam bands and
- 24:17I started, you know, I became really into fish.
- 24:21Not not the seafood, I mean the band pH fish and I don't know, I
- 24:27I started pretending I was super into sports and pretending I
- 24:31didn't watch bravo like I hated my I only watched 2B shows to be
- 24:36clear. So it's not like right now where
- 24:38I watch everything they put out pretty much.
- 24:41But back then I only watched 2B shows.
- 24:44But the way I hated the fact that I watched those 2B shows
- 24:49like it was a fucking state secret.
- 24:51I used to save I used to DVR them.
- 24:54This was back when people had cable.
- 24:55How nuts is that? I used to DVR it in my bedroom
- 24:59and literally hide it like there was a hidden folder so that no
- 25:03one would see. I wouldn't even record it on the
- 25:05living room TV because I was scared someone would go through
- 25:08my DVR and see because it went against this image that I was
- 25:14trying to portray of myself. Is this like cool ass chick
- 25:17who's just one of the guys and everything about her is
- 25:21effortless. And I don't know why I thought
- 25:24putting in effort like negated things.
- 25:27I mean, this is a big theme in my life, which I could unpack in
- 25:31a different episode. But anyway, I definitely wasn't
- 25:34wearing a lot of makeup. I certainly wasn't on top of
- 25:37makeup trends. And just really, I actually call
- 25:42my 20s my last year is because I had a really bad eating
- 25:45disorder. I basically pretended I only
- 25:48cared about fish and football and I was just deeply into this
- 25:55pick me girl phase of my life where I wanted to be one of the
- 25:58guys and I was so disconnected from everything going on in the
- 26:03world. I call it my lost years because
- 26:05if you bring up something that happened during that decade of
- 26:08my life, I probably won't know about it.
- 26:11Just like anything in pop culture, I probably don't know
- 26:14about it. And I almost kind of prided
- 26:16myself on being like, Oh yeah, I don't know what the not almost.
- 26:19I literally prided myself on being like, Oh yeah, I'm so out
- 26:23of touch with pop culture. And now I'm like, what a fucking
- 26:27loser. You know what I mean?
- 26:31Not that I'm saying everyone has to be in touch with pop culture,
- 26:33but what I am saying is just be yourself.
- 26:36Like it's it. There's nothing.
- 26:38It's OK to be basic. It's OK to like mainstream
- 26:42things. It's OK to like things that are
- 26:44popular. I was always such a contrarian
- 26:46and I just wanted to go against what was popular because I
- 26:50thought that would make me more elevated.
- 26:53Like I thought that made me special in a way, but it just
- 26:56made me a big fat loser. That's all it did anyway.
- 27:00So the wherever walnut lip pencil is not like this isn't,
- 27:06you know, sleeper pick like this isn't something you haven't
- 27:09heard of. Everyone fucking uses it and for
- 27:12good reason. I don't know why, but it's the
- 27:15perfect fucking lip pencil. The shade.
- 27:18I'm yet to find someone who it doesn't look good on and has a
- 27:21really sharp tip and it makes it really easy to get like a nice
- 27:26line. Now there are other lip pencils
- 27:28that I like notably. I actually really like the road
- 27:31ones, and those are almost like a crayon.
- 27:34So what I really like to do if I'm properly doing my lips,
- 27:38which I don't do most days, but you know, if I were to properly
- 27:41do my lips is I'll do a little over lining on my Cupid's bow
- 27:48area just like the very center part of the my top lip and also
- 27:52a little over lining on the bottom using the wherever
- 27:56walnut. But I do not over line these
- 27:59outside bits and I'll connect and then I'll put a little bit
- 28:03of a Rode lip pencil on the inside, but I shade in with the
- 28:09wherever walnut a little bit. It's so fucking good.
- 28:12And while we're on lip products, another one that's really hyped
- 28:15and so fucking worth the hype is the Summer Friday's Lip Balm.
- 28:19That shit is so fucking good. I haven't tried all the colors.
- 28:22I'm really partial to, I think it's called vanilla beige or
- 28:28something like that. I really like that one.
- 28:30It's kind of a perfect nude color.
- 28:32I actually used to shy away from nude lips in general.
- 28:36OK, this is actually going to be a really good illustration of
- 28:39this story. So I used to love a nude lip and
- 28:42then I used to watch the show called The League.
- 28:45I don't know if you've heard of it.
- 28:46It's it was on FX and it was about a group of guys and the
- 28:51wife of one of the guys who were in a fantasy Football League
- 28:55together. It's actually a really funny
- 28:58show, although I did kind of stop watching it towards the end
- 29:01because the humor got too bathroom humor for me.
- 29:04And this is someone who talks about poo a lot.
- 29:06So you know, I, I don't love toilet humor, though I'd like
- 29:10I'll talk about how I can't poo all the time, but I don't love
- 29:15toilet humor anyway. So in one, just one episode of
- 29:23the league, the guys were talking about how some girls
- 29:26wear lipsticks that look like it could be their butt holes and
- 29:30how that's really gross. And ever since then I'm like,
- 29:33oh, if I'm ever doing a lip product, it's got to be like
- 29:35fucking red. Like it's got to have a lot of
- 29:37red in it. So I can't be confused with my
- 29:40butt hole like what the fuck? And this is because one guy in
- 29:45one episode of 1 show made a comment about it and I decide to
- 29:52change all of my interests and personality and now I do nude
- 29:55lips again and I fucking love it.
- 29:57I fucking love it. OK, let's move on to #4 OK, aloe
- 30:05juice for skin. This is actually one I
- 30:08discovered kind of by accident this year.
- 30:12And not even that long ago, like I feel like it was just a few
- 30:15months ago. So I was having a day where I
- 30:17was really bloated or something and I happened to have some aloe
- 30:20juice. And I was just, I kind of poured
- 30:22a little into a cup and I really enjoyed the taste.
- 30:25And then I kept pouring more and drinking more and pouring more
- 30:28and drinking more. And then I looked in the mirror
- 30:31and I was like, holy shit, what the fuck is going on with my
- 30:35skin? Like it was like nothing I've
- 30:37ever seen before. It was like I, it was like I
- 30:40swallowed a light bulb, but that was on.
- 30:43Like it was, I was glowing in a way I've never seen before.
- 30:47Like my skin was so plump and firm and bright.
- 30:52It was crazy. Ever since then, I kind of swear
- 30:56by it. I don't do it all the time.
- 30:57And here's the thing, I don't think you're supposed to do it.
- 31:00The aloe juice bottle literally says that you should only have
- 31:04like 2 ounces of it or something.
- 31:06But I do buy one that has the inner leaf removed so it doesn't
- 31:11have the habit forming laxative part of it.
- 31:14And here's the thing, it's never made me poo at all.
- 31:16Like it's literally never helped me poo at all.
- 31:19So I just have a hard time imagining how it could possibly
- 31:22give someone diarrhea. I fucking swear by it.
- 31:26But I do think the bigger thing is just staying insanely
- 31:31hydrated does so much for your skin.
- 31:35Like it'll make you glow so fucking hard.
- 31:39OK #5 OK, something I developed, invented, whatever this year are
- 31:49my little soy milk cloud coconut water drinks, whether I do a
- 31:56coffee version of it or a matcha version of it.
- 31:59You know, I, it took a it, it was, it took AI was going to say
- 32:05it took a while for me to develop this recipe.
- 32:07No, I, I think there were a few iterations of it until I got
- 32:11there, but it's so good. It always helps me poo, largely
- 32:15because of the coconut water. And then the soy milk is so
- 32:18creamy and yummy, but it also has a bunch of protein.
- 32:22So that's great. But more broadly, this year I
- 32:26really got into caffeine and coffee culture and I haven't in
- 32:30the past. It's just one of the many ways
- 32:32where I feel like this year is the first year I'm kind of
- 32:34alive. Like there were so many ways in
- 32:37which I kind of was, I always felt different from other
- 32:42people. But now that I look back on it,
- 32:44I'm the one who was emphasizing and wedging these differences.
- 32:48And one of them was by not consuming caffeine.
- 32:51And it was kind of a point of pride for me.
- 32:53Like, Oh my God, like I work out and I do all this stuff and I
- 32:56don't even drink coffee. Like, you know, you drink
- 32:58coffee. Oh, that's great for you.
- 33:00I mean, that's great for you. I hear coffee so yummy, but I
- 33:02just like, I don't need it. Like I just have so much natural
- 33:05abundant energy. And then I started drinking
- 33:08caffeine this year and I was like this, this is what life's
- 33:11all about. I get why people have been doing
- 33:13it. Like it's so fucking fun and
- 33:15it's so nice to treat yourself to like a good drink in the
- 33:19mornings. And what I love about making
- 33:21this is again, I get a good amount of protein, I get a crazy
- 33:26amount of electrolytes and potassium and stuff.
- 33:28I mean potassium is an electrolyte from the coconut
- 33:32water like and it's kind of almost like a balanced meal if
- 33:35you will. I mean it's not a literal meal
- 33:37because I'm not chewing and stuff, but it is almost like a
- 33:41meal replacement drink because it is heavy ish enough depending
- 33:45on how much you have of it. And it tastes so fucking good.
- 33:49And I just, I feel like I'm a part of things again.
- 33:53Like I feel like I'm a part of society.
- 33:55Like when people talk about coffee, I can chime in on that
- 33:58conversation and I'm not like I'm not perpetuating this
- 34:02bullshit holier than thou. Oh, I don't even need caffeine,
- 34:07loser. I was a fucking loser before.
- 34:10OK, again, I'm not saying everyone has to drink caffeine,
- 34:13but the reason I'm coming down on it so much is because I was
- 34:17just constantly finding these ways to create a wedge between
- 34:22myself and other people and to just not be a part of things.
- 34:27But there is a reason why things are popular.
- 34:30It's usually because they're good.
- 34:32I was going to say that brings me to the last one, but no, I
- 34:37don't think this is the last one.
- 34:39This is the second to last one, which is glycolic acid.
- 34:43So I actually learned this from a TikTok.
- 34:46I I bought a glycolic acid toner.
- 34:49I have the one by The ordinary. I know I've talked about it
- 34:52before on the podcast, but it's worth repeating because it
- 34:55really is one of the best things I started doing this year.
- 34:58So I use it after I shower, actually don't use it on my face
- 35:02at all. I do have another toner or
- 35:06something that has glycolic acid in it for the face, but this I
- 35:09just put it on a cotton pad and I don't do this every day.
- 35:12In the beginning I did it every day, and now I only need to do
- 35:16it once or twice twice a week. I'll wipe down my armpits with
- 35:19it, and then sometimes I'll wipe down other places, like behind
- 35:23my ears and my heels. Sometimes, just once in a while,
- 35:28I'll do the butthole a little bit, you know?
- 35:30Anyway, ever since I started doing this, no body odor.
- 35:34I never wear deodorant anymore. No body odor.
- 35:38I don't know what the fuck it is.
- 35:39I have no idea, But when I tell you I smell better doing this
- 35:45and not wearing deodorant than I ever did wearing deodorant,
- 35:50whether that was a clean deodorant or like a full
- 35:53chemically loaded like will give you cancer kind of deodorant.
- 35:57And also, I'm joking, like I don't think deodorant is going
- 35:59to give you cancer, but I do think it's one that's probably a
- 36:02better product to buy clean anyway, That issue's gone
- 36:06because I don't fucking need deodorant anymore because of the
- 36:08fucking glycolic acid. That shit is magic.
- 36:10I don't know what it does. I think it just, I think, I
- 36:13mean, I'd heard this before that sweat shouldn't smell bad.
- 36:17It's the bacteria on the skin that makes sweat smell bad, but
- 36:20no amount of me washing would ever fix that.
- 36:25Whereas I think the glycolic acid just gets you cleaner in a
- 36:29way I'm not entirely sure. I don't, I don't, I don't get
- 36:31the science of it, but whatever. And that brings us to the last
- 36:36one. Oh, OK, fun.
- 36:39So the last one is a short 1 and that's A and D cream or A and D
- 36:45ointment for lip issues. Now I feel like I've told you
- 36:49all about the various types of lip issues I kept getting.
- 36:53The only thing that's truly, truly cured it is A&D cream.
- 36:57I I swear, I think everyone should have at least one tube of
- 37:02A&D cream at home and use it as a lip mask.
- 37:05Your lips will be so much plumper and if you ever get
- 37:08irritation around your lips gone, you'll never have a
- 37:12fucking chapped lip again in your fucking life.
- 37:15It is so fucking good. OK, now that I set the seven, I
- 37:21do want to kind of touch on something deeper, which I've
- 37:25been talking about all episode, but I want to emphasize it
- 37:28again. Let me see how I wrote this
- 37:30because maybe, OK, I wrote. But the biggest lesson, you are
- 37:34worthy of taking time for yourself.
- 37:36You deserve the best version of things.
- 37:38It's not a vain or frivolous to take time for yourself.
- 37:43Like I, like I said in these various iterations of my life,
- 37:51even a few years ago, right when I first started to get more into
- 37:55new age spirituality and Wellness and things like that, I
- 38:02really tried to be like, oh, I don't even care about clothes.
- 38:05Like I don't wear makeup, like I'm too crunchy for that.
- 38:08I'm too this, I'm too that. Like, oh, skin care over makeup
- 38:11and blah, blah. And again, I still don't do a
- 38:13lot of these things, but if I'm really unpacking it, it's a lot
- 38:19of my own internalized misogyny that was going on there.
- 38:23It's like I didn't, I thought it was frivolous and vain and girly
- 38:27and stupid. And I say girly because in my
- 38:31mind, girly was a negative thing back then.
- 38:34To care about your skin care and to have a multiple step skin
- 38:38care routine and to put on makeup and to care about your
- 38:42clothes and to just be uppity about things.
- 38:45Like I, I always wanted to be that cool effortless girl.
- 38:49And this year I just started to embrace the basic bitch that I
- 38:53actually AM. And it feels so good.
- 38:56And it just, it makes me feel like I'm like I'm a person,
- 39:03which is a weird thing to say. But I think if I'm being really
- 39:06honest with myself, before I didn't really feel like I was a
- 39:10person. Like I felt like I was a visitor
- 39:13on this planet observing everyone else live.
- 39:16But I wasn't a part of that world.
- 39:18I wasn't a part of that life. I was just, it was like I was
- 39:21watching it on TV. But this year I feel like I'm a
- 39:26part of things. And I think taking care of
- 39:29myself has been this signal to my brain that I'm worthy of
- 39:35being here. I'm worthy of taking care of
- 39:38myself. I'm worthy of the things that I
- 39:41want in my life. I'm worthy of having friends.
- 39:43I'm worthy of having good relationships.
- 39:45I'm worthy of having a good career.
- 39:47I'm worthy of living in a home that I actually enjoy.
- 39:50I'm worthy of feeling good about myself.
- 39:55And it's. It sounds stupid to say, oh,
- 39:58Gwah eyeing my face got me there.
- 40:00But I really think Gwah eyeing my face got me there like I
- 40:07actually do. Is that crazy?
- 40:09I really do. I think that.
- 40:11Yeah. OK, that's it.
- 40:12That's it. I don't.
- 40:13I don't think it can get better than this.
- 40:15So let's just end it here. We'll chat next week.
