- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's Adam here, and you're about to listen to a hypnosis
- 0:42session that is all about releasing anger.
- 0:48In order. To release chronic pain and I
- 0:51was working with a client that had very severe chronic.
- 0:54Pain. Lots of fatigue.
- 0:57It was even affecting their. Cognitive Processes.
- 0:59Like memory. And they've been holding on to
- 1:02this for a very long time. And some of it related to an
- 1:05incident in their past with a family member that was.
- 1:10Lying. Betraying them.
- 1:12Doing very horrible. Things and even.
- 1:16You know, 16 years later, they were still angry about that
- 1:20event. And to some extent, they were
- 1:23still attached to the event, to that individual, even though
- 1:27they weren't talking to them anymore.
- 1:29And that can happen as a way of still having an attachment, a
- 1:33connection to someone. Even if it's not a good
- 1:37connection, it's still a connection.
- 1:39And there is this quote misattributed to Buddha, that
- 1:44anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person
- 1:48to die. And it really felt like that was
- 1:51the case with this client, that all of this anger, all of this
- 1:54resentment, all of this emotional pain that they were
- 1:57holding in wasn't harming the person that they'd fallen out
- 2:02with. It was harming themself.
- 2:04And it was. Causing a lot of.
- 2:07Emotional. Toxicity to use.
- 2:09A metaphor. This uses forgiveness and some
- 2:12people feel, quite rightly, that they shouldn't forgive someone
- 2:16that has done them harm. But the.
- 2:18Point of forgiveness is not for the other person, it's for the
- 2:21individual and you don't have to forgive that person.
- 2:25In reality, I've worked with a lot of people that have had a
- 2:27lot of anger at someone that may have.
- 2:31Been deceased. How do you close that loop if
- 2:34you can't actually forgive the person in reality because
- 2:36they're dead? But you can certainly do it
- 2:39symbolically. And one of the best symbols of
- 2:41forgiveness is a letter. And the great thing about
- 2:44writing a letter is you don't have to condone the actions of
- 2:48anyone else in order to forgive them.
- 2:51In fact, you can hold them even more to account.
- 2:54You could say, right, this is the pain that you've caused.
- 2:57This is the consequences of your behavior.
- 3:00I don't contain what you've done.
- 3:02It doesn't let you off the hook, but I forgive you.
- 3:06And the forgiveness is really the release of all of the
- 3:09emotional weight and trauma connected to that event.
- 3:13Now, this uses a letter as a metaphor.
- 3:16And why I like that is there is something cathartic about
- 3:19getting emotions onto a page, but then it gives one level of
- 3:23disassociation because if all of that release is on paper, then
- 3:28it means it's no longer inside you or the client that I was
- 3:31working with. There's a lot going on here.
- 3:33I think those that would benefit most are those holding on to
- 3:37anger, holding on to resentment, holding on to some kind of pain
- 3:42and might be reluctant to forgive someone else because it
- 3:46lets them off the hook without realizing that then on the hook
- 3:50you are. And once you realize that, and
- 3:52that forgiveness is a way of accepting and releasing what
- 3:56you're holding on to, things can change pretty quick.
- 3:59So if you can relate to any of that, you might get some value
- 4:02from this session. But just be aware that it was
- 4:04created for an individual. Some of the references were
- 4:08highly relevant to the client I was working with.
- 4:10They might not be quite. Right for you.
- 4:12So just ignore any suggestions that don't quite fit your
- 4:16circumstances and your situation, and just hone in on
- 4:19those that do. And if you do like the idea of
- 4:22working with me directly, there will be a link in the
- 4:25description and the show notes where you can schedule a
- 4:27completely free consultation call.
- 4:29We'll have a chat and who knows, I might end up being your
- 4:31hypnotherapist. Rather than the.
- 4:33Guy that you listen to on a podcast.
- 4:35So for now though, you might get some value from this session.
- 4:38So find a quiet, comfortable place where you won't be
- 4:40disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 5:09Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 5:18feeling of calm relaxation and as you exhale, feel a wonderful
- 5:29feeling of release. You've been holding onto a lot,
- 5:37and just imagine, every time you breathe out, you're letting a
- 5:44tiny bit of all that you've been holding on to to be released.
- 5:54And as you exhale, feel that release.
- 5:57And then on the next inward breath, breathe in a feeling of
- 6:03acceptance. You can accept things that you
- 6:12don't like. You can accept things that
- 6:19aren't helpful. You might not like it that
- 6:23there's people in the world dying of hunger.
- 6:28And yet you can accept that that happens, and you can accept that
- 6:35wonderful things can happen too. Every day there is someone with
- 6:43pain that wakes up without pain. There is someone that's been
- 6:50holding on to hate or anger resentment for years.
- 6:58And then one day let's it go. You can accept that a
- 7:04Caterpillar can and does indeed turn into a butterfly.
- 7:12Therefore, you can accept that change is not just possible,
- 7:18it's inevitable. It's almost impossible for
- 7:24anything to stay exactly the same.
- 7:31Things change, people change, things move on.
- 7:40Some people think that Einstein once said that the definition of
- 7:46insanity is doing the same things and expecting a different
- 7:52result. And I want you to think about
- 7:56what you've been doing for the last 12 years.
- 8:02What's 1 consistent thing you've done throughout that whole time
- 8:10that might be the cause of something you want to change?
- 8:18And it stands to reason that there's a high probability that
- 8:23if that one thing changes, then certain things can alleviate, be
- 8:33released, let go. So continue to breathe in
- 8:40resourceful relaxation and continue to breathe out any
- 8:46feelings of stress, worry, or tension releasing in every
- 8:54outward breath. And maybe your outward breath
- 9:00gets longer each and every time. Breathing out for longer and
- 9:08breathing in nice and deep. That's it.
- 9:17With every outward breath, the muscles in your face and around
- 9:22your jaw relaxes, the shoulders let go of any tension, and the
- 9:32whole body begins to shift out of old patterns of rigidity,
- 9:40high alert, and into something calmer, something steadier,
- 9:48something safer. And you may notice a sense of
- 9:55drifting, as if the mind is slowly loosening its grip on the
- 10:00outside world and turning inward toward a calmer place within.
- 10:11I want you to imagine now a small quiet room, maybe a
- 10:21candlelight or one of those lamps with just enough light, a
- 10:29comfortable chair, a desk, and just imagine some sheets of
- 10:36paper, maybe a notebook and a pen resting beside it.
- 10:45This room belongs to you, a place where no one else can
- 10:51enter and no one else can judge and no one else can influence,
- 11:00because this is a room where you do things for yourself and not
- 11:07for anyone else. And as you imagine sitting down
- 11:13in that chair, you may feel the chair hold you support you sink
- 11:22your body into that chair as though it understands just how
- 11:27much emotion you've been carrying.
- 11:29And with every breath, you sink deeper and deeper into the calm
- 11:36relaxation of that chair in that room next to that desk without
- 11:44paper, and see a pen by the paper and just know, know that a
- 11:52wonderful change is about to happen.
- 11:57And as you sit in that chair, you notice.
- 12:02That the paper. In front of you.
- 12:05It isn't for the world to see, it isn't even for an individual,
- 12:13and it isn't for forgiveness in the way people misunderstand
- 12:18that word. This is something else.
- 12:25This is a release, a severing of an old connection that has
- 12:33trained you for far too long. A way of taking your energy
- 12:40back, your peace back, your power back.
- 12:49And you can hold on to all of your truths and you can hold on
- 12:54to your boundaries and you can hold on to your clarity about
- 12:59right and wrong. None of that changes because
- 13:06this person, person you've been thinking about, you are not
- 13:12letting them off the hook. You are letting yourself off the
- 13:17hook of carrying pain that was meant to be temporary and
- 13:24belonged to the past. If your unconscious agrees, let
- 13:30me know by nodding your head. And when you're ready, imagine
- 13:38your hand lifting the pen and writing the very first words.
- 13:46This is not for you. This is for me and I want you to
- 13:56imagine the hand moves, the pen writes and you don't have to
- 13:59know what's being written, but just feel that you are writing
- 14:05truth. You are releasing emotion with
- 14:10every letter and every word. Share the pain that you felt,
- 14:20sorrow, grief, anger. Write it all down.
- 14:27Things that have been real, that you've kept inside.
- 14:33And you don't have to dilute anything.
- 14:37You don't have to excuse anything.
- 14:41You don't have to approve of anything.
- 14:46But maybe you write words like I'm done carrying the weight of
- 14:51what you did. I want you to get a sense then.
- 14:59Holding on to anger is like drawing drinking poison and
- 15:04expecting the other person to get sick or die.
- 15:10All of this anger didn't punish him, it punished you, and you
- 15:19deserve better than that. And as you imagine your hand
- 15:25continuing writing whatever comes to mind, maybe you imagine
- 15:32words like I release the anger because I won't let it injure me
- 15:39anymore, and I release the resentment because it keeps me
- 15:44tied to a moment that is long since gone.
- 15:50I release the hurt because I am ready to heal.
- 15:56You are free to carry your own consequences, but I no longer
- 16:02consent in my suffering. Write whatever comes up for you
- 16:11first in the mind, then in reality.
- 16:15And with every sentence you may feel something shifting.
- 16:23Maybe it's a sensation that comes up, a feeling, a tightness
- 16:30that releases a quiet unraveling of tight knots deep, deep
- 16:40inside. And you are not forgiving the
- 16:46past, you are extracting yourself from it.
- 16:52You are not excusing anything. You are reclaiming your life
- 16:58force. This anger has been like a
- 17:03parasite, draining your energy, draining your cognitive
- 17:08facilities, giving you pain as a side effect.
- 17:14And as you write the letter, you are freeing yourself from the
- 17:18parasite of anger. I want you to get a sense that
- 17:28they were never on the hook. So you're not letting them off
- 17:33the hook. You are stepping off their hook.
- 17:39It's you that was hooked and you are detaching yourself from the
- 17:43hook. I want you to imagine a sharp
- 17:46hook, the kind of hook you use to catch fish, and imagine it
- 17:53there, maybe in your jaw, your tongue, your mouth.
- 17:57All of that pain in your mouth was the hook attached to you.
- 18:03Just imagine as you continue to write that the hook is detaching
- 18:09from you, especially around your mouth, so you can live freely
- 18:16again, no longer attached, no longer connected.
- 18:24And now notice where in your body that old anger or
- 18:29resentment used to live. For some people it's the jaw,
- 18:33the chest, the throat, the stomach.
- 18:39And as your mind writes the words on the page, your body
- 18:44writes its own message. Imagine releasing tension from
- 18:48those places. As you imagine writing, certain
- 18:54sensations change. Tension turns to relaxation.
- 19:02Tightness softens contractions or restrictions open feels maybe
- 19:12like you're letting movement return to what once felt frozen.
- 19:21Feel the exhale flow through these places, as if each breath
- 19:28is sweeping out the old debris of a story that no longer needs
- 19:34to live inside you. This is your body and your
- 19:39nervous system unhooking itself from the trauma of the past.
- 19:45And when the letter is finished, you place the pen down and let
- 19:54me know by nodding your head as you read the words, not as a
- 20:02message to them, but as a message to yourself.
- 20:11Maybe you read words like. I choose my healing over my
- 20:16anger. I choose my peace over my pain.
- 20:21I choose my future over the past.
- 20:26Maybe see certain words connected to feelings that
- 20:30aren't in you anymore. They're on the page.
- 20:37And then you fold the letter. And you don't need to send it.
- 20:43You don't even need to share it. You simply take the folded paper
- 20:49and place it into a box in that quiet room.
- 20:54A box that seals itself when something no longer belongs
- 20:59inside you. Your pain, your trauma is no
- 21:04longer in you. It's in the letter, in the box.
- 21:10And that box is sealed. As the lid closes, the emotional
- 21:15tether that once held you so tightly releases, dissolves,
- 21:24disconnects. You are not the same person who
- 21:32went into that room. Imagine leaving the room,
- 21:36walking out, like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders,
- 21:43like a tightness has been opened, like your body and your
- 21:48mind has permission to rejuvenate, to heal.
- 21:55If a fish was tethered to a hook for weeks or months, the healing
- 22:02can't take place while the hook is inside them.
- 22:07Only when the hook is released can the healing truly begin.
- 22:15If you're unconscious, can reach a point of forgiveness, not for
- 22:22them, but for you, real forgiveness.
- 22:25And the clue is that that anger inside turns to something else.
- 22:33Maybe acceptance, maybe compassion, or maybe just
- 22:39understanding. But no longer anger, because
- 22:45anger is the poison that's been harming you.
- 22:51Imagine leaving the room and returning to your physical body.
- 22:57We get a sense that the anger is missing now.
- 23:02It's in that letter, in that box and has evolved into
- 23:09forgiveness. Very soon I will count from 1:00
- 23:14to 10:00 and you will return to the here and the now, taking
- 23:20back a wonderful sense of freedom with you.
- 23:26So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 23:30nose. Wiggle your fingers, wiggle your
- 23:33toes. Connect and calibrate into the
