- 0:00Oh, God. Oh, my God.
- 0:12Kind of like whatever fell out of the back of the truck.
- 0:15Yeah, it up on the shelves.
- 0:16Yeah, it fell out of the back of the truck and then rolled across
- 0:19three international borders and ended up in America.
- 0:23I think I've always shopped at a stars like twice,
- 0:27and it was out of like necessity, like proximity.
- 0:30Yeah. It's like I just need this thing and I'm right here
- 0:32and I should be in and out before I catch anything.
- 0:34Who chooses to shop at stars?
- 0:36It's either that or you're so poor.
- 0:38It's a lifestyle. You have to stop here.
- 0:41All right. Now we're starting to talk down on people about their choices
- 0:44and I feel really good about this.
- 0:46So I'm going to need you to start bagging on the pores again,
- 0:49because it really helped for my segue to get us into this episode.
- 0:53I mean, if we can get you into a proper segue,
- 0:56I'm going to do everything I can not to.
- 0:59Welcome back to Cage match, colon around about way of meeting Nicholas Cage.
- 1:03I'm Sean here with Nick and Nick and our producer Peter. Hello.
- 1:07And this week we have our special guest Marissa. Hello.
- 1:13Well, why are you here?
- 1:15Well, I was asked.
- 1:19Oh, OK. See, I'm not I'm not involved in the guest selection process.
- 1:23So like somebody will be like, Oh, that's great.
- 1:25Marissa is going to be on the show.
- 1:26What's how'd that come about?
- 1:29I'm like, I don't know.
- 1:30Well, OK. So I was asked. That's the short answer.
- 1:32Long answer was I think I was talking about Moonstruck
- 1:36and basically how I use Nicholas Cage's hand
- 1:40at work all the time to discuss people.
- 1:43Fantastic. So you have Nicholas Cage's hand.
- 1:46I do. As my desk.
- 1:47People on this podcast, we discuss, rate and review
- 1:5264 Nicholas Cage's top films and we will
- 1:56decide what ultimately is the best Nick Cage film as decided by Nick and myself.
- 2:02Yes. No one else.
- 2:04Today we are discussing Moonstruck from 1987 and Honeymoon in Vegas from 1990.
- 2:10We're going to do this again, too, aren't we?
- 2:11So I think to do to.
- 2:15This is our comedy bracket, I believe.
- 2:18Funny guy, funny guy, funny cage.
- 2:20And it's really unfortunate that you have to ask if this is supposed to be funny.
- 2:25There are times where I question
- 2:29comedy. Well, I mean, there's times when I question him as a tough guy, too.
- 2:33But we also assigned these pretty arbitrarily,
- 2:37not having much knowledge of the movies just based on trailers.
- 2:41Yeah. That Peter watched. Yeah.
- 2:43Oh, man. That was a dream of a night.
- 2:45We we broke this down based on descriptions that Peter gave us.
- 2:50Yeah, it worked out pretty well. I think so.
- 2:51I just thought it was because I had moon in both titles.
- 2:54No, that's there's actually been a lot of like random sort of like weird
- 2:58alignments between movies in general.
- 2:59This one has two weak ass men getting cuckolded.
- 3:03So yeah, great.
- 3:05So the first movie that has ended in Kukul.
- 3:08And this podcast, you see, it's so weird.
- 3:11Yeah. What Kukul?
- 3:12Weird is one way of saying it wrong.
- 3:14And another one.
- 3:16I know you're talking about. Yeah.
- 3:18So, Marissa, had you seen Honeymoon in Vegas before?
- 3:22Yes. Really? But like a very long time ago.
- 3:25Interesting. This was a total blind spot for me.
- 3:27Probably in the 90s.
- 3:30Are you now interested in watching the musical?
- 3:33No, because there is a musical based on it. What?
- 3:36Yeah. I don't know.
- 3:37Assholes. It's the first movie.
- 3:41Like a movie about like a stage musical or a live or like, OK, with songs and shit.
- 3:47You know what? It's interesting, but I'm going to move away from this.
- 3:49We're going to we're going to come back here in two hours after we've watched this.
- 3:53See you. See everyone then.
- 3:56Boy, that was terrible.
- 3:57I can't believe you spent that time.
- 4:00What was your favorite song, Nick?
- 4:01The one with Spider-Man in it was definitely my best.
- 4:06I don't have any better jokes than that.
- 4:07So we're going to move on now.
- 4:10Mercy, you're the guest.
- 4:10Do you want to explain what this movie is about? Yes.
- 4:13Nicholas Cage is a private investigator who investigates
- 4:18men who are being cheated on
- 4:22on behalf of them.
- 4:23And he takes evidence.
- 4:25He is dating Sarah Jessica Parker, who is way out of his league.
- 4:29And he is he promises his dying mother,
- 4:34who's Anne Bancroft, that he will never get married.
- 4:38And so he has a phobia, an avoidance of marriage.
- 4:42But Sarah Jessica Parker wants him to get married.
- 4:46So he agrees they go to Vegas.
- 4:49He has to have one last poker game before they can get married.
- 4:53And James Kahn has spotted Sarah Jessica Parker.
- 4:57She looks like a dead ringer for his deceased wife.
- 5:01Dead ringer.
- 5:02Dead life.
- 5:04But a ringer.
- 5:06Physical comedy.
- 5:07Oh, yeah, that was a wedding ring finger joke.
- 5:10And then the wrong hand because I am afraid of marriage.
- 5:16I am too.
- 5:18Sorry, this is a movie that like once again, really hit home,
- 5:21strikes on a lot of things that I'm like, oh, man, I don't want to get married.
- 5:25Maybe we're just fucking weird, scary.
- 5:27Also, you do look like someone who should be an Elvis impersonator.
- 5:31Oh, I thought you were going to say
- 5:34you do look like somebody who shouldn't be married.
- 5:36That's cold. But I guess well received.
- 5:39Yeah, fair.
- 5:41So James Khan hatches a plan to lure Nicholas Cage into a
- 5:46poker game where he can win money from Nicholas Cage
- 5:51so that he's indebted to such a point that he has to offer up.
- 5:55Yes, I agree to have Sarah Jessica Parker go for a weekend with James Khan.
- 6:02Somehow he takes her to Hawaii.
- 6:05That felt a little odd.
- 6:06There's a Pat Morita shows up as a taxi driver.
- 6:10Peter Boyle shows up as a as a native Hawaiian chief.
- 6:13Says some things that are what we would call problematic these days.
- 6:16Yes, I'm not going to lie.
- 6:17I love Peter Boyle's role in this movie.
- 6:21I mean, I just love him.
- 6:22Also, he was just obsessed with musicals.
- 6:26All I can think of is Frankenstein, though.
- 6:28Yeah, absolutely. Putting on the ritz.
- 6:31So they do detour in Kauai.
- 6:34Nicholas Cage goes out antics and Sue.
- 6:37They end up back in Vegas.
- 6:40The only way he can get there is to parachute in as an Elvis impersonator.
- 6:44By this time, Sarah Jessica Parker had agreed to marry James Khan,
- 6:51which seemed really far fetched.
- 6:53Under very dubious circumstances, James Khan really starts lying.
- 6:58True reason for marrying, agreeing to marry anyone at this point is very spacious.
- 7:02Well, all she wants to do is get married and have kids.
- 7:06Yeah, which I understand that's every woman's core desire. But
- 7:11the views in this podcast are that of Nick and Nick's alone.
- 7:16Wait a minute.
- 7:16I have to take ownership for everything you say now. Yes.
- 7:21Anyways, they end up they end up
- 7:22she ends up falling back in love with Nick Cage because he jumps out of.
- 7:26Yeah. Grand gestures.
- 7:27Because apparently he was afraid of heights.
- 7:28I don't know. That was like a character trait thing that like never was.
- 7:31They never established that it was in the Wikipedia said that there was.
- 7:35There's a lot of stuff in the Wikipedia for this one that is blatantly wrong.
- 7:39Maybe they added that for the musical.
- 7:40It is fair to point out that Wikipedia is not a credible source.
- 7:45True, because it is all user update. Yeah.
- 7:49There is one character
- 7:51that is a callback to another movie, and that's Johnny.
- 7:55What's his name? Who plays Johnny Sandwich?
- 7:57And yes. Oh, yeah. Johnny Roastbeef Williams. Yeah.
- 8:00Fuck, yeah. God, I'm such a great character.
- 8:02What a name.
- 8:04I wish people would just start.
- 8:06I'm going to change my last name to Sandwich.
- 8:08Sandwich is a good last name.
- 8:09So he had a great name, his best.
- 8:11And then the Nick Cage's buddy was Sally Moller's.
- 8:14Yeah, that's also really good.
- 8:16And he's a dentist. Yeah, that makes sense.
- 8:19Do you think he was a dentist because he had that last number?
- 8:21He changed his name when he got into the. You have to be a dentist.
- 8:23Yeah. It's just like, sorry, dude.
- 8:25Family name, family business. Yeah.
- 8:26Richard, I to you. Got to do it.
- 8:30Let's start from let's start from the beginning.
- 8:32His crazy ass dying mother. Oh, yeah.
- 8:36That was a great real quick cameo. Yeah. Yeah.
- 8:40She was she gives a real look right before he dies.
- 8:43Oh, man. Those wild eyes.
- 8:44There's some wild eyes in this. I liked it a lot.
- 8:47Now that she died, she's dead as fuck.
- 8:49What do you think of the animated intro?
- 8:51OK, so I liked there was like this was a time it made me think back.
- 8:55I could be wrong that the money pit has one of those,
- 8:57but I feel like the money pit has an animated intro.
- 8:59I can't remember if it does, but it definitely has that same kind of vibe.
- 9:02Yeah. What's the money?
- 9:04Tom Hanks and Shelly Long.
- 9:07Yeah. They put a bunch of money in a house.
- 9:09That's a piece of shit. Yep.
- 9:10Man, it's actually based on a 1940s movie, Mr.
- 9:13Blanding Stream House.
- 9:15Well, look at you, Marissa.
- 9:17You're better at us than us. Thanks for the context.
- 9:20Get out. I hope I got that right.
- 9:23I'm not going to fact check it. Yeah.
- 9:24That's all we're here for. This is like Wikipedia.
- 9:26You can say anything and it's really not citable in court
- 9:29because we don't know shit.
- 9:31Here's another thing. Just a bunch of idiots.
- 9:33This is also true.
- 9:34So the guy who did music for Honeymoon in Vegas, David Newman,
- 9:38went to school with my dad.
- 9:40He was actually in my Uncle Tom's class.
- 9:44My uncle comes a year younger than my dad.
- 9:45And his brother, Thomas Newman, is a very famous music scorer for movies.
- 9:51He's gotten Academy Awards and stuff.
- 9:53Can we get him on this podcast?
- 9:55And is he going to get Nicholas Cage on this?
- 9:57Is he Randy Newman?
- 9:58That's their cousin, I think.
- 10:00Right. Yeah. You fucking kidding me?
- 10:01No. Why aren't you telling us these things when we meet you?
- 10:06These are hot facts.
- 10:07I want to sing songs about short people with Randy Newman
- 10:11on our Nicholas Cage podcast.
- 10:13I invite Randy Newman over, please.
- 10:15I had a I had a quick thought of Randy Quaid for a second.
- 10:18Oh, no. I'm sorry. He's gone.
- 10:22He's left the country.
- 10:24Yeah. I like Quaid. Quaid.
- 10:29Yeah. So mom kicks it.
- 10:31Yeah. So then it cuts to four years later.
- 10:34Voice over of Nick Cage explaining that he's a private eye.
- 10:37Great fake mustache.
- 10:38Oh, and he's got one of those really cool, slim cameras.
- 10:41Yes, I love. I want to get one of those.
- 10:45Great fake mustache.
- 10:47The best of the fake mustaches I've seen him wear on this podcast.
- 10:51The best. This is the most fake mustache.
- 10:55It's big. It's fake.
- 10:56It's it really went with the pants. Yeah.
- 11:01We find out that he has been dating Sarah Jessica Parker, who's a school teacher.
- 11:06He pops the question one night and they're off to Vegas the next day.
- 11:09OK, we have to pause before we jump too far into the Vegas park.
- 11:12And we've got to talk about the guy that comes to his
- 11:15detective agency.
- 11:17Oh, yeah.
- 11:18So he has this one client who's convinced that his wife is cheating on him
- 11:23with Mike Tyson and he shows pictures and she's a looker.
- 11:27And so it makes sense.
- 11:28That's true. She's quite the lady.
- 11:30Yeah. We'll post a picture on the Patriot.
- 11:32Or is she? Oh, man.
- 11:34Rude. We got to post a picture of her with Mike Tyson.
- 11:37Yeah, that's the one.
- 11:38I got. Later he comes back like with, you know, with photographic evidence.
- 11:42And it's clearly just a Xeroxed
- 11:45picture with like her head cut out next to Mike Tyson.
- 11:49And the guy's like, see, you didn't believe me, but it's real.
- 11:51I have proof. It is so good.
- 11:54Who is that actor?
- 11:55I don't have that information in front of me, but he's he's in things.
- 11:59Yeah, for sure. I mean, I think it's Robert Costanza.
- 12:03He was on Saturday Night Fever and Die Hard 2 and City Slickers and Total Recall.
- 12:10OK, so Robert Costanza.
- 12:11Total Recall references in this episode alone.
- 12:14I know. Damn.
- 12:16I'm just waiting for someone to make an indecent proposal reference.
- 12:19I mean, yeah, that's kind of what this movie is.
- 12:21But you know, I mean, somebody's going to get a decent proposal tonight.
- 12:23I looked it up in decent proposals.
- 12:261993. Oh, there you go.
- 12:27So I'd like to say they were inspired.
- 12:30Do you remember like when they did Robin Hood with Kevin Costner?
- 12:34Yes. Robin Hood Men in Tights came out right around the same time.
- 12:37I feel like there was a lot of movies where there was a comedy
- 12:40and then a serious movie.
- 12:42Oh, yeah. It just happened to be made around the same time.
- 12:45It's like they only had so many ideas.
- 12:47Yeah. And we still have even less now.
- 12:50I know. It's true.
- 12:51As we're now just remaking 90s movies.
- 12:54I can't wait to get Biodome redone.
- 12:56Oh, it's happening.
- 12:57Is it? It's a gritty reboot.
- 12:59It is. No, it is.
- 13:01Fuck that. It's not.
- 13:02It's a comedy, but it stars.
- 13:05It's a Mark Duplass film.
- 13:06OK, so it stars Mark Duplass and I can't remember the name of the other actor,
- 13:10but they're trapped in.
- 13:11Is it his brother? No, they're trapped in.
- 13:13Is it Terry Crews? Is it Polly Shore?
- 13:15No. Do they bring him back?
- 13:17I hope he has a major cameo.
- 13:18Is Tenacious D in this one also? I hope so.
- 13:20No, they're trapped in a dome.
- 13:22They have no contact with the outside world and they slowly start going insane.
- 13:25That doesn't sound the same.
- 13:26But it's a biodome. But it's a biodome.
- 13:28Yeah. OK. I mean, I buy that.
- 13:31So they're in Vegas.
- 13:32Khan shows up, starts ordering people around, sees
- 13:36Sarah Jessica Parker and is like, that's a dead ringer for my wife.
- 13:38And he's sad because his wife died of skin cancer, I assume,
- 13:41because he's really weird about the sun.
- 13:43Yeah, yeah. He's always talking about her like he said her skin.
- 13:46The doctor said her skin was like a saddlebag.
- 13:48Yeah. It's like, God damn.
- 13:51Which I thought it was weird that he owned a house in Hawaii
- 13:55and he's hanging out in Vegas. Yeah.
- 13:57Yeah. What's that about?
- 13:58Well, he's a big time gambler.
- 14:00I mean, the gambling scene's probably pretty limited in Hawaii.
- 14:04People are like betting pineapples and
- 14:06some of the subi.
- 14:08So he or what?
- 14:11These are the things I love.
- 14:13If I had to gamble those things, I'd be like, OK,
- 14:16this really means something to me.
- 14:18I don't want to lose my subi.
- 14:20So I better win this hand.
- 14:21The subi is a great thing to win in poker because, you know, tax man can't tax.
- 14:24We eat. That's right.
- 14:26Can we get it?
- 14:27As government.
- 14:30But James Khan sets up
- 14:32a poker game in his private suite and slips
- 14:35like an invitation under their door to get him in there to con him out of this.
- 14:40What was the game actually rigged?
- 14:42I think it has to be. I mean, oh, it was definitely rigged.
- 14:44Because they kind of make it seem like it was.
- 14:47But like, what are the fucking odds?
- 14:48For him to get a straight flush and then for James Khan
- 14:53to get a slightly higher straight flush right afterwards.
- 14:57It's like a statistic anomaly.
- 14:59Like two straight flushes in one hand.
- 15:01The likelihood is even outside of Hollywood's realm of possibility.
- 15:05It seems like Johnny Sandwich had his had his hands in this one.
- 15:08Yeah, I mean, they sharked him.
- 15:10It's to Asian Elvis.
- 15:12There's also an Elvis committee.
- 15:13Oh, Eddie. Yeah. Yeah.
- 15:15There's Eddie is so good.
- 15:16I love many amazing Elvis's in this movie, including Bruno Mars.
- 15:20Yes. So we we get into the game
- 15:24and it builds up to a hand that should be unbeatable.
- 15:30I believe there's straight flush to Jack.
- 15:33Yeah, straight flush to the Jack.
- 15:36And so Cage like keeps taking more and more money on credit.
- 15:40James Khan takes the hand with a straight flush to the queen.
- 15:44And Cage is just bugging destroyed.
- 15:47And the James Khan is the indecent proposal.
- 15:51Or at this point, I think it's a pretty decent proposal
- 15:54where Khan's like, hey, let me spend the weekend with your wife.
- 15:58I definitely won't try and fuck her. Nothing sexy.
- 16:01Well, I mean, beyond the normal James Khan sexiness.
- 16:05And he can't find the money anywhere else.
- 16:06So he talks to her and she's like, well, I guess Sarah Jessica Parker.
- 16:12I keep wanting to call her Sarah Michelle Geller.
- 16:15Stupid three names, Sarah's Sarah Jessica Parker is just hanging out with Tommy.
- 16:21Nick Cage is Jack singer Sarah Jessica Parker's Betsy Nolan.
- 16:24James Khan is Tommy Korman and Pat Morita is Mahi Mahi.
- 16:27Oh, yes. He's the only person in this movie
- 16:30that is likable, even though he's still a shitbag.
- 16:33Yeah, this is shit. But he doesn't likeable shit.
- 16:36He's the only one who kind of does the right thing eventually.
- 16:39I think Peter Boyle's very likable. That's fair.
- 16:41And Eddie's likable and Roy Bacon is likable.
- 16:44Roy Bacon fucking rules. Yeah.
- 16:47God, there are some fucking bangers of names in this movie.
- 16:51They did it right. Roy Bacon's got some fucking chompers.
- 16:54That's what I thought. He is going to have dentures or something. Absolutely.
- 16:58Or like three sets of teeth.
- 16:59It's just like a shark. Yeah.
- 17:02Roy Bacon's the leader of the flying Elvis's. Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:05He doesn't come in until like the last 15 minutes of the movie.
- 17:09So Tommy comes around. He's like, oh, let's go to Hawaii.
- 17:12I'm going to take you to Hawaii.
- 17:13And then his wife's like, I'm going to Hawaii with him.
- 17:16And so your weekend turns in like five days.
- 17:18Yeah. So now she's expected to come back on Wednesday.
- 17:21And Cage is freaking out.
- 17:23So he chases them to Hawaii when he just can't cope with anything.
- 17:28And he's like following them around the island.
- 17:31See, this is my biggest missed opportunity with this film.
- 17:33He's supposed to be a private eye. He's real bad at it.
- 17:37So they get this guy, Mahi Mahi, Pat Morita, the taxi driver on it.
- 17:42He intercepts Cage at the airport and Cage is like, hey, take me to Tommy Corman's house.
- 17:47He's like, OK, I got it. Everybody knows. Everybody know him.
- 17:51Oh, I did something racist.
- 17:53And it takes him to Chief Orman's house instead of Tommy Corman's house.
- 17:57And then we get Peter Boyle singing a lot of like South Pacific and show tunes.
- 18:04We cut back in finishing South Pacific.
- 18:07So it's just they've just been sitting there for the entirety of that musical.
- 18:12Yeah, pretty much. Nick Cage gets outside and he's like, oh, man.
- 18:16Oh, my, my. It looks like I left my keys in the bathroom.
- 18:21Could you run in and get them?
- 18:22And so Pat Morita is like, yeah, I'll go do that.
- 18:25And so he runs inside like I pronounced all of it.
- 18:28That was good. Yeah. Way to rein it in.
- 18:30Kukuldri. Some of us never learn.
- 18:33Pat Morita goes back inside.
- 18:35Cage just steals his taxi and drives off.
- 18:38Let's let's talk about Tommy's seduction, quote unquote, the seductory.
- 18:43Yeah, he's a boomer. Yeah.
- 18:45I mean, my favorite part is he's a boomer in Hawaii.
- 18:48They make him look old so fast.
- 18:50It's just, you know, can we talk about his awesome art?
- 18:53Oh, the like Kamasutra. Yeah.
- 18:55Oh, yeah. Right when you enter the house.
- 18:57Yeah. Welcome, granddaughter.
- 18:59Yeah. People fucking his son and granddaughter are on their way.
- 19:02That was like one of his cells to like get it to come to Hawaii.
- 19:05It's like, you'll meet my son and my granddaughter.
- 19:07Yeah, nothing weird could happen.
- 19:08So how will be here?
- 19:09How weird is it for your son to be introduced to the woman you just met
- 19:13who looks apparently exactly like his mother?
- 19:16He did not react to it. Yeah.
- 19:18It must be only James Khan sees it that way.
- 19:20Oh, yeah. Khan gives the full court press. Yeah.
- 19:23And it fucking works.
- 19:24It admits to her that like he like set up the game
- 19:27so he could like have the weekend with her immediately tells her he's in love with her.
- 19:31He was definitely love bombing her. Yeah. Yeah. For sure.
- 19:34Apparently works.
- 19:36I guess we go back to Vegas because Tommy's gone back to Vegas
- 19:41with Betsy to get married now.
- 19:43And when we're in Vegas now, Tommy's telling her that like the game was
- 19:50only for three thousand dollars and that Nick Cage put her up instead of.
- 19:55Despite what he'd said before.
- 19:57Yeah. So he's changing the game.
- 19:58He's like, Oh, I only said that to be gentle with you.
- 20:01To be fair, her character is a big old dummy.
- 20:05Yeah. Like which really speaks very early for their ex wife or the dead wife.
- 20:10And she's teaching children. Yes. Yeah.
- 20:12That's a scary thought.
- 20:14So Nick Cage can't get a direct flight back to Vegas to chase them.
- 20:18He ends up going to San Diego and then catching a private plane
- 20:24from San Diego to Vegas, which ends up just being the flying Elvis's.
- 20:28They're going there for a big flying Elvis thing,
- 20:32which turns out to be skydiving.
- 20:34Yeah. Well, this is clearly before 9-11 because there's no TSA. Right.
- 20:38He just walks out there with the cardboard sign.
- 20:40Well, yeah, he's just on the tarmac.
- 20:42Before that, when he when he start, when he's yelling at Ben Stein
- 20:45earlier in the film or the ticket agents like, you know, sir, can you get back in line?
- 20:48Like, why? What are you going to do?
- 20:50Arrest me. Send me to airport jail.
- 20:54And then everyone in line is like, Yeah, this guy fucking fucks.
- 20:59This guy's good.
- 21:00I just like the fact that they were using the green on black screens at the airport.
- 21:04Yes. Oh, yeah.
- 21:05Made me wistful for simpler time.
- 21:08Yeah, those were easier days.
- 21:10So James Khan, she's like, you know, let's wait.
- 21:12What's the rush? Let's because she agrees to marry him.
- 21:14And then he like starts, you know, grabbing her and it's like, never walk away from me.
- 21:17Yeah. He starts becoming a huge douchebag offers her half a million dollars
- 21:20to marry him today, which immediately escalates to a million dollars.
- 21:25And if they I think you just hold out a little bit of divorce. Yeah.
- 21:28Well, you get in paper to write that in writing.
- 21:31Yeah. I would have gotten that in writing.
- 21:32And I would have like I would have gotten in writing.
- 21:34I would have gotten the cash up front.
- 21:36I would have gone to the chapel.
- 21:38I mean, it's big and say, no, you can have all these things. Yeah.
- 21:41Yeah, absolutely. He has guys who do these.
- 21:43There's a notary somewhere. He knows one.
- 21:45He's very intimate with his balls.
- 21:47It's Tony Shalhoub. Tony Shalhoub.
- 21:49It's a hell of a way to introduce yourself to somebody.
- 21:52Yeah. It's a power move. Yeah.
- 21:54So yeah, that's a Vegas handshake.
- 21:56He's up there with the flying Elvis's needs to jump.
- 22:00So winds up jumping out of a plane with the flying Elvis's.
- 22:04Sarah Jessica Parker to get away from Tommy has like dressed up in a showgirl outfit.
- 22:09I felt very convenient.
- 22:10That's a lot of outfit to get into in such a short amount of time.
- 22:13When they're like running through the crowds and she's being chased by Tommy,
- 22:18they're announcing all the flying Elvis's that are coming in.
- 22:20The last one is.
- 22:22Jack Singer.
- 22:25So New York City. Yeah.
- 22:26So she hears that numerous times runs up there, you know, runs past security.
- 22:31They embrace, they kiss.
- 22:32Tommy sees this and goes, it's over.
- 22:36He jumped out of a plane for her.
- 22:38Set up a game.
- 22:39That's the movie.
- 22:41Yeah. Then they go get married in front of all those Elvis's.
- 22:45Which is the only way to get married as far as I can.
- 22:47So my parents get married in front of a bunch of Elvis's married by an Elvis.
- 22:51Oh, I honestly.
- 22:53It was all this time.
- 22:54If I could manufacture it right, I would love to have an Elvis wedding
- 23:00where everybody dresses like Elvis, except for the the person.
- 23:04Yeah. Efficient.
- 23:06And just like do it in Vegas.
- 23:07And only Elvis's can attend.
- 23:10I like that. If you had to dress up as an Elvis, what era Elvis
- 23:14would be your preference to get married as dead on the toilet?
- 23:18You bring the toilet. Oh, yeah.
- 23:20That's a seat with you anywhere you go.
- 23:21Mm hmm. I got to have like the sweetest pompadour Elvis.
- 23:25That's my Elvis.
- 23:26I do. 1969. Come back.
- 23:28Elvis. Fringe. 69. Yeah.
- 23:30Nice. Good call. Yeah.
- 23:32Yeah. He's like starting to lose it.
- 23:34It's still sexy. That's me.
- 23:35Dad bought Elvis started to lose it, but still sexy.
- 23:38Not doing those military pictures anymore. Elvis.
- 23:41This is the really that's thanks.
- 23:43Oh, that's all we can hope for at this point. Yeah.
- 23:45I do want to talk about his form of acting in this movie,
- 23:48which is just to scream every line in this film
- 23:52and not in like a very cagey way, just to violently yell at people.
- 23:56It was just volume. Yeah. Yeah.
- 23:58I think this character definitely got directed up.
- 24:02Interestingly, Andrew Bergman.
- 24:05Yeah. Written and directed by Andrew Bergman.
- 24:06Right. So he did a lot of things such as strip.
- 24:10He wrote strip. He wrote Blazing Saddles.
- 24:14It could happen to you. That's what you're thinking of.
- 24:15I was thinking about all three of those, actually,
- 24:18because I knew there was one blazing saddles that I like.
- 24:21It could happen to you, which is a good movie.
- 24:24We passed it forward.
- 24:25And a fury. The legend of Hank.
- 24:28Who the fuck is Hank?
- 24:30He's the best one.
- 24:31He's got paws of the Paws of Furious.
- 24:33Is this like a Beethoven spin off or an air but spin off?
- 24:38Is it a spin off from the dog that Air Bud had to fight in the boxing movie?
- 24:43I would watch that as a boxing bud.
- 24:46No, I think dog fighting would be strictly prohibited in the Air Bud franchise.
- 24:52That's the one sport that they're just like, we're not going to touch.
- 24:55But moves in with Michael Fitz.
- 24:58Um, what were you getting?
- 25:00Michael Vick is like the Don King character of the movie.
- 25:05You're going to be a champ.
- 25:08Ruh roh.
- 25:11Do we have to turn back time?
- 25:15And that would be a great segue.
- 25:17That would be a good segue.
- 25:20Quotes. Yeah, I got quotes.
- 25:22Fucking quotes of the yin yang.
- 25:25I was going to say that
- 25:26it's my quotes just like right there at the end after Nick Cage, like
- 25:33meets up with Sarah Jessica Parker again.
- 25:38And Sarah Michelle Geller.
- 25:41No, you got it right.
- 25:42Fuck. OK.
- 25:44I panicked.
- 25:46I panicked because this is all live and it couldn't possibly be reedited.
- 25:50There's so much pressure.
- 25:51I'm doubling every fuck up.
- 25:53OK, so they're in each other's arms and like he's dressed like an Elvis.
- 25:56And she's dressed like a showgirl.
- 25:58He's like his kid said you were going to get married.
- 26:01Did you get a job here?
- 26:02Why is the line I'm going to use every time I go gambling now?
- 26:05And he's this is after I was going to say, sir, Michelle Geller,
- 26:10Sarah Jessica Parker goes on the intro date with GamesCon,
- 26:14and he somehow has lots of cash still to go play roulette.
- 26:19And he sits down at the table and he says,
- 26:22it's extremely important that I win.
- 26:24And for some reason, the woman manning the roulette table
- 26:29takes him somewhat seriously and gives him a respectful answer.
- 26:34Mine's like from very early on in the film, and it's him talking about a dream.
- 26:38Talking to Sarah. God damn it.
- 26:40Jessica Parker about he had that dream about his mom again.
- 26:45And she's like, was she naked in this one?
- 26:47Hey, I only had one dream where she was naked.
- 26:50She was vacuuming.
- 26:51Wasn't sexual. It was about cleanliness.
- 26:54I love that one.
- 26:56That that comes back again at the end of the movie, too, which is great.
- 27:00He's like, I had another dream about my mom.
- 27:02I told her we were getting married.
- 27:04And she's like, was she naked?
- 27:06She was still naked, but it was OK.
- 27:10So instead of good cage, bad cage, because this isn't a great film
- 27:13and he's not the best in it.
- 27:15I want to know how long do you give that marriage?
- 27:18I give it a year. Two tops.
- 27:19Hmm. No, I think they're so dysfunctional.
- 27:22They'll stay together for a long time and just be somewhat miserable.
- 27:25Oh, they're going to have kids immediately.
- 27:26So you're it's the kids that will link them together in sadness and copy it.
- 27:32I don't know.
- 27:33It wasn't a great performance by cage and it wasn't.
- 27:37It's not a top five movie for me now, but
- 27:42did I enjoy myself all the way through?
- 27:44Yes, I did enjoy.
- 27:45Did I laugh while I watched it? Yes, I did laugh.
- 27:47Do I think that it deserves to be a part of this podcast?
- 27:51Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 27:53To get to this. Yeah, there there is a lot.
- 27:55I mean, we've moved all sorts of Bangkok.
- 27:58Dangerous made it into this somehow.
- 28:00They really could have cut like a third of the movie. Oh, yeah.
- 28:03Yeah, I mean, that's what I thought.
- 28:04Give me a nice 60 minute movie. Yeah.
- 28:06Here's the thing.
- 28:07I don't feel like I'm appropriately equipped to talk about romantic comedies.
- 28:13I mean, they're just not something I like.
- 28:15Yeah, well, I mean, it's gone.
- 28:17Throws a lot of romance around, but it's always creepy.
- 28:21Yeah. And it's creepy.
- 28:23I know there's never a sweet touching moment in this movie.
- 28:26Now. No.
- 28:27Hey, Nick, I got a question for you.
- 28:29If I could turn back time, I was going to ask if you believe in life after love.
- 28:35Do you believe in love after love?
- 28:38Because that's what this next movie is kind of about.
- 28:41Yeah. Yeah.
- 28:42I read. That's my segue.
- 28:43I've read so many interviews from Cher this week.
- 28:47Like, I just got addicted to reading interviews by Cher.
- 28:50Awesome. With Cher for no reason.
- 28:53And none of them really amount to anything in my head.
- 28:56They're all the same.
- 28:58Talks about shoes.
- 28:59That's because people only want to ask her questions about her, like
- 29:03weird boyfriends, her fashion style and things like that.
- 29:06I'm just going to put it out there.
- 29:07But Cher is highly underrated.
- 29:09Oh, I really love Cher in sometimes ironic, sometimes not ironically.
- 29:15Yeah, I never really got the Cher appeal.
- 29:18And then I saw this movie like Cher's charming as fuck.
- 29:21Yeah. You want you want to marry her?
- 29:23You want to be her friend?
- 29:24Which is funny, because this movie is nothing Cher.
- 29:28No, she's very unsure.
- 29:30Well, she's an Armenian woman.
- 29:33Armenian, Native American, a bunch of other things, not Italian at all.
- 29:37This movie is aggressively Italian.
- 29:39It is very aggressive.
- 29:40And he's trance and thieves.
- 29:43Oh, man, when she said Nick Cage looked at her with those gypsy eyes
- 29:47and I was just like, ooh, spicy.
- 29:49Can't say that anymore.
- 29:51I mean, I'm going to say it on the podcast because it's a freebie.
- 29:53Yeah, that's true. It was in is a quote from the movie.
- 29:56I take I take every freebie I can.
- 29:58I always I always think that Swede sounds like a slur.
- 30:01Swede. Yeah.
- 30:03Swede. Swede.
- 30:05Say the whole word.
- 30:06Did you ever watch the show Iron Horses or something like that?
- 30:11I don't know.
- 30:11But there was one like work boss who was Swedish
- 30:16and they just called him the Swede and he was a real son of a bitch.
- 30:20Was it just wings with the with trains?
- 30:22Yeah, I've never seen.
- 30:23Was Tony Shalhoub in it?
- 30:26Tony Shalhoub was every character, including the Swede,
- 30:29which was the most racist part.
- 30:32All right.
- 30:33So let's follow the tradition of Moonstruck.
- 30:36And drink champagne with a sugar cube dropped into it to ward off the devil.
- 30:41Yeah, because he's a fucker.
- 30:43The devil can't.
- 30:44So when we started watching this, Josie was like,
- 30:48why do why are they putting sugar cubes in their champagne?
- 30:53Like if they wanted it sweeter, why not just buy a Spamante instead of fruit?
- 30:58I don't know the champagne terms.
- 31:01Drink a drink of wine time.
- 31:02Drink a drink of wine time.
- 31:04And so I had to look it up.
- 31:05But it is specifically like an Italian or Italian American,
- 31:10like old wives tale to drop a sugar cube in your champagne
- 31:14because the devil hates all good things and nice things.
- 31:17So having like that little bit of extra sweetness
- 31:21keeps the devil out of your spirits.
- 31:23But it also, from a scientific standpoint,
- 31:26gives it more surface area for effervescence.
- 31:29So it bubbles more aggressively for longer out of the sugar cube,
- 31:33which is nice if you like the bubbles.
- 31:36Science, science pod.
- 31:38Mr. Wizard, show me your dick.
- 31:42Sorry, I couldn't let it get too serious.
- 31:44Sorry, Marissa, you're excluded from that one.
- 31:46That's why we put Mentos in the diet coke to ward off the devil.
- 31:50And for effervescence.
- 31:51Oh, is it Mentos?
- 31:52I've been doing pimentos this whole time and I've always been curious.
- 31:56My diet coke tastes terrible.
- 31:59Oh, man. So Moonstra.
- 32:01Obviously, we're talking about Moonstruck.
- 32:03Starring Cher mostly Cher. Yeah.
- 32:06Yeah. Sure.
- 32:08Loretta Castorini, Nick Cage's Ronnie Camareri
- 32:13and Danny Ayo as Johnny Camareri.
- 32:16Ronnie and Johnny Brothers.
- 32:18And then a bunch of other great actors.
- 32:21Yeah. I mean, Olympia Dukakis is Cher's mom.
- 32:24It's only 15 years older than her.
- 32:26Vincent Gardena. Great name is her dad.
- 32:30Frazier's dad's in this. Frazier's dad, John Mahoney.
- 32:32Yeah. And the grandpa, I'm sure he's an interesting actor.
- 32:36You know what else John Mahoney was on?
- 32:38The best show ever.
- 32:40That's right. Burn Notice.
- 32:42Oh, my God.
- 32:43Why does it always come back to Burn Notice?
- 32:45I love Burn Notice. Obviously.
- 32:49That's going to be my next podcast.
- 32:50I say mine because I know you two won't have anything to do with it.
- 32:53So it will be self-produced.
- 32:54I'll come on your podcast. Nice.
- 32:56I did watch a lot of USA shows. I love you.
- 32:59I mean, I just want to do a whole podcast about USA television.
- 33:01It was a golden era. Yeah.
- 33:03So Moonstruck. Yeah. Moonstruck.
- 33:05A fucking banger of a film. 1987.
- 33:08It's a great. Yeah.
- 33:09So Cher Loretta is proposed to by Johnny.
- 33:16And she has to work him through the whole process.
- 33:19He's a real lump of a man.
- 33:21Oh, he's a fucking rube. If I ever saw.
- 33:22He's a putz. He's a total putz.
- 33:25Rube putz. He's a he's a dumb dumb.
- 33:28He nice hand motion.
- 33:30He proposes because his mom's dying and he has to go back to Sicily
- 33:34to be at his mom's side as she dies.
- 33:37We only get like five minutes of him and Cher together in this film.
- 33:40And the entire time, all she does is take care of him.
- 33:42Well, yeah, she buys him gum for the plane.
- 33:45You know, she tells him to wear a hat when he's out in the sun.
- 33:47He's a big. I mean, he goes to order the fish at the restaurant.
- 33:51That's what you say. You can't eat the fish.
- 33:53It's going to be too greasy.
- 33:54It's going to sit in your stomach and you're going to fly like that.
- 33:56That's the subtext is mama's dying. He needs another mother.
- 33:59Yeah, for sure. And to be fair, strong Italian woman.
- 34:02She's going to tell you what you're going to do and what what's on her mind.
- 34:06Well, she's reticent because her last husband died, got hit by a bus,
- 34:09which was bad luck, which is bad luck.
- 34:10I would say so. It's about as bad as it can get.
- 34:14I don't know. Well, she's alive. Yeah.
- 34:16But she coaches him through it. Yeah. Takes him in.
- 34:19When she sees him off at the airport, because this movie also has a very
- 34:22unhinged person at the airport because she's just watching the plane fly off.
- 34:26And this old Italian woman's like, you know, someone on that plane.
- 34:30And she's like, yeah, my fiance.
- 34:32I put a curse on that plane.
- 34:33Yeah, I love that old lady.
- 34:36He talks about how like my sister stole my man just to be a bitch.
- 34:40Yeah. And that admitted to me, just admitted to me that she never loved him.
- 34:44She just wanted to be better than me.
- 34:46So I curse her and share just goes, I don't believe in curses.
- 34:49Hold on. I want to back one thing up.
- 34:52So when I mildly touched on Pat Marita's accent,
- 34:57I was racist. Italians aren't people. OK.
- 35:02As long as we've got that out in front.
- 35:04So continue. The sweet.
- 35:07Now, like we said, this movie is aggressively Italian.
- 35:11There's one character. Very Italian.
- 35:13There's one. There's one.
- 35:14We're all just gesticulating wildly.
- 35:16There's one character near her grandfather who most of his lines
- 35:20are just in Italian.
- 35:22And he's talking to a Russian actor. Yeah.
- 35:25He's like, OK, so hold on.
- 35:27I want to talk about this.
- 35:28Since we're just on the grandpa right now, I he's my favorite character.
- 35:32Oh, he has the best.
- 35:33He has the best joke in the whole movie.
- 35:35But the best part about him is like not even like on screen.
- 35:40It's the fact that the actor himself is he's 140 now fucking blind.
- 35:46So he couldn't really see anything, couldn't hear anybody.
- 35:49He was deaf and he would watch other people.
- 35:53And this is how he would get his cues when they would stop talking.
- 35:57That's when he knew they were done.
- 35:58So it was his turn.
- 36:00So their mouth stopped moving.
- 36:02And then he would just say his line, no clue what they said.
- 36:06Anything like that.
- 36:07Just old deaf Russian dude.
- 36:09That's awesome.
- 36:11Owning this Italian grandpa role.
- 36:13I appreciated the dogs.
- 36:14Yeah. He has like five dogs that are just his.
- 36:17Oh, the best dog scene is when he comes back the first time
- 36:20and the dogs go to go up the stairs and that one dog.
- 36:23This is the stair.
- 36:24Just takes a header into the stairs.
- 36:26So good. Like he feeds.
- 36:28He feeds his daughter in law's food to the dog.
- 36:30Like we'll scoot.
- 36:32Like we'll have food served to him.
- 36:33Then he just gets up, walks it over and just hands it to the dogs.
- 36:35Yeah, it gets back down.
- 36:36And then his son, she's like, my dad needs another plate. Yeah.
- 36:42The best line is what Olympia Dukakis says to the grandpa.
- 36:45Yeah. After the he say she's like,
- 36:47if you if you give my food to those dogs one more time,
- 36:50I'm going to kick you to death. Yes.
- 36:53She is my favorite character in this movie.
- 36:55Yeah, she's great.
- 36:57I loved when the grandpa was meeting with all of his old dude friends
- 37:00at the like cemetery around the grave of one person
- 37:05that had all these flowers and stuff.
- 37:06But he's got all of his dogs and they're like kicking up dirt and stuff.
- 37:10Or does he leave? Yeah.
- 37:13Nobody gives a shit.
- 37:14It's just like they have an old dude conference.
- 37:18And then like he says, I need to make sure my son pays for the wedding.
- 37:22It's disrespectful if he doesn't pay for this wedding.
- 37:25Yeah. Sure. Comes home, tells them, tells her father that she's getting married.
- 37:29What again? Yeah.
- 37:31And they have a little fight about it.
- 37:33He doesn't like Johnny.
- 37:35I don't like John. I don't know.
- 37:36Johnny said he does.
- 37:37So it's like, all right, let's go wake up your mother.
- 37:39Go upstairs. Wake up, mom.
- 37:42Loretta's getting married.
- 37:43What again?
- 37:45I do love the line.
- 37:47Do you love him? No, ma. Good.
- 37:49Because if you love them, they know you can get away.
- 37:51They can get away with anything.
- 37:53Do you like him? I do, ma. Good.
- 37:56I like in the end when she's with Ronnie and it's like, do you love him?
- 38:00I do. I do, ma. Oh, God help us.
- 38:06This is a great these movies are great because we saw the first
- 38:09we saw Nick Cage's first marriage that went wrong.
- 38:11Now we see a second marriage. Perfect. Yeah.
- 38:14That's the connecting tissue for this one.
- 38:16And Cacoldry. Yeah. Cacoldry.
- 38:19Yeah, Peter. Come on.
- 38:20What? What the fuck?
- 38:21I said, right. Cacoldry.
- 38:25So the main point of this film is Johnny is like his one ask for Loretta
- 38:31was like, you got to get my you got to get my brother.
- 38:33We haven't spoken in five years. He works at this bread job.
- 38:36You got to call him up and like, get him.
- 38:39Nick Cage.
- 38:40So she goes to meet him and he's shoveling coal into an oven and he's sweaty.
- 38:45Sweaty. Peter.
- 38:47He's got those fucked up teeth that make him look like a human being.
- 38:50Yeah. So I did want to talk about this.
- 38:52I talked about it with Peter a little bit.
- 38:54Nick Cage has never been like attractive.
- 38:57Yes. Like he's never been horribly attractive.
- 39:00But before he got the veneers and his teeth were fucked up,
- 39:03his face had like class and character.
- 39:05And I like I would see him and like I see his like cute little boy smile.
- 39:08I'm like, I get it.
- 39:10Well, it's just the I said this earlier.
- 39:11This is the only film I've ever seen him in where he's like remotely attractive
- 39:17because he's got a sort of animal presence about him.
- 39:20He's a wolf. And he got to see Birdie.
- 39:23He actually acts in this.
- 39:24And so you feel you feel the the passion he has for share.
- 39:29Like he actually communicates that.
- 39:31So the studio did not like him for this role and did not want him in this.
- 39:36Correct. Like she he did us did a screen test with Cher.
- 39:40I can't remember who the other like front runner was,
- 39:43but the studio was like, no, he's bad. We don't like him.
- 39:45And Cher was like, no, he's the only one who's going to pull off crazy.
- 39:49I want him. And they're like, no.
- 39:50And she's like, cool. I quit.
- 39:52And they're like, all right, he can be in the movie.
- 39:54Go share. Yeah. Fucking power play.
- 39:56I know. I guess when you have one name, you can do what you want.
- 39:58That's right. To be fair.
- 40:01To be fair. Yeah, I know.
- 40:02I almost said that to be share. To be fair.
- 40:04The studio continued to try to sleep on this movie.
- 40:09And after it was done, they're like, this movie sucks.
- 40:13We're going to release it in two theaters.
- 40:17And they put it out in two theaters.
- 40:19But Goldie Hawn's Overboard
- 40:24is what they were putting all their money on.
- 40:25And that movie bombed.
- 40:28And so they're like, fuck, I guess we better release
- 40:31more of this Moonstruck movie.
- 40:33And it went to like many theaters.
- 40:37Like it just multiplexed right out because people loved it.
- 40:40And that's how that got.
- 40:42Well, even shares like in an interview while making the film was like,
- 40:46this isn't a good movie.
- 40:48She did not think she did a good job.
- 40:49She didn't think the movie was great.
- 40:50Want an Oscar for it. Yeah.
- 40:52Cher also didn't watch Daly's.
- 40:54So she doesn't really know whether it was a good movie or not.
- 40:57She's on the record in an interview saying that she wouldn't watch Daly's.
- 41:00Good. I mean, I hate to do that.
- 41:02I wouldn't either.
- 41:04I don't know.
- 41:05So she goes and meets Ronnie,
- 41:08who hates his brother for a slight from years prior.
- 41:12Ronnie blames Johnny for the loss of his hand and his bride or a slice.
- 41:16Hey, and we're back.
- 41:19Apparently, Johnny, like called out to him while he was slicing bread
- 41:22on the slicer and he looked away and his hand got caught in there, got mangled.
- 41:26And when he went home to his to his fiance, she left him for another man.
- 41:30A man with two hands. Yeah.
- 41:34I'm just going to say my I'm just going to say my quote now.
- 41:36Cher goes to like invite him to the wedding.
- 41:38He's pointing at his like wooden hand.
- 41:41It's kind of a sweet prosthetic. Yeah.
- 41:43It was a good wooden hand.
- 41:45He had some good wood. Good wood.
- 41:47I know freaking monument to justice.
- 41:50I lost my hand.
- 41:51I lost my bride.
- 41:53Johnny has his hand. Johnny has his bride.
- 41:56He wants me to take my heartache, put it away and forget. Love it.
- 42:02Another series of just extreme yelling every line in this film.
- 42:07Yeah, he's so like melodramatic.
- 42:09I mean, my quote from this is kind of from that same scene.
- 42:12Chrissy over on the wall.
- 42:14Bring me the big knife. I want to cut my throat. Oh, Johnny.
- 42:18I love how dramatic he is about it.
- 42:20Give me the big knife.
- 42:21I'm a fucking kill myself right here.
- 42:24Oh, Johnny, don't do it.
- 42:26He's like, I will fucking kill myself.
- 42:28It's going to stay for this until Johnny on your wedding night that I died.
- 42:35I love that melodrama.
- 42:38Yeah. Now he's spectacular.
- 42:42Then she like he lives upstairs.
- 42:43She takes him upstairs to like talk things out, at which point
- 42:48he she makes a mistake.
- 42:49She makes a mistake.
- 42:50Yeah, which he wants. I like it. Well done.
- 42:53Because they're all babies. Everyone's a baby.
- 42:55Yeah, yeah. That that is very true.
- 42:57All the men in this are just like children.
- 43:00Well, I would argue that he that scene where he flips the table over
- 43:04and he kisses her is where he stops being a baby. Yeah.
- 43:07And he starts becoming the man. I love that.
- 43:09Yeah. Well, he had a steak. Yeah.
- 43:10To eat it bloody. That's true.
- 43:12She made it for the blood.
- 43:13She's like, I need whiskey.
- 43:14So they have a sip of whiskey each, at which point he flips the table,
- 43:19squares up, slicks back the hair.
- 43:22Does a shake of the hips.
- 43:23Yeah, my favorite part. Then he like just grabs her and kisses her
- 43:27like sweeps her off her feet.
- 43:28And she's like, where are we going? The bedroom.
- 43:31Fine. Take me there. I don't care anymore.
- 43:34She wastes no time to cheat on her fiance.
- 43:36Well, it's because she actually has passionate feeling.
- 43:41Yeah, I get it. This guy does something. Yeah.
- 43:44No, they have. Johnny does nothing.
- 43:45Johnny was afraid to kneel like he didn't want to kneel down to propose, which.
- 43:50All right. I'm going to mess up his suit.
- 43:51This is my suit. I know I picked it out for you.
- 43:53It came with two pairs of pants.
- 43:55That's a nice suit.
- 43:57But I want to also circle back here.
- 43:59Nick Cage does not kneel down now in the end of the movie. It's true.
- 44:04He just says like straight up while standing on very me.
- 44:07But he does it in front of her whole family. That's fair.
- 44:10It's been less than 48 hours since she's gotten engaged,
- 44:12slept with her fiance's brother, goes to the church to confess.
- 44:17It's been at least a week since the engagement.
- 44:20They talk about on the phone.
- 44:23We talk about that.
- 44:23Insinuation of the past.
- 44:25Yeah. With the mom in the back. Yeah. Yeah.
- 44:27She's just in this.
- 44:29I don't know. I have a lot of old French relatives that remind me of that.
- 44:33And so the women in black at the bed.
- 44:36It looks like she's in a Renaissance painting.
- 44:38It's hilarious.
- 44:40I do like on my phone call, though, Johnny just
- 44:47is like cried his mom's bedside and she just like waves away.
- 44:50She's just like, I like how quietly he's trying to talk.
- 44:55Yeah, like he shushes share on the other side of the phone.
- 44:58Yeah. Well, to be fair, share is kind of say that a lot.
- 45:02Share is also like doing old person talk too loud on the phone.
- 45:07Voice is like, oh, you're in another country.
- 45:08I need to talk louder so you hear me from America.
- 45:12Got to really project. Yeah.
- 45:13So Cher and Ronnie sleep together.
- 45:16Then the Bella Luna comes out.
- 45:19The love moon. What did you guys think of the the friends of the family
- 45:23who talk about the love her aunt and uncle? Yeah.
- 45:25Oh, I loved their roles in the movie.
- 45:28I thought they were a lot of fun.
- 45:29I loved how dopey the uncle was.
- 45:32I loved how kind of like flighty the aunt seemed.
- 45:36They're just kind of off. They're out there.
- 45:38They're a little weird, but they're like they're sweet.
- 45:42Well, there are those people who are consistently in love.
- 45:44Yeah. Throughout the whole film.
- 45:45Yes. So every they don't have a problem.
- 45:48Every I mean, it's an examination of love and couples. Right.
- 45:51And so they are what you hope to be. Yeah.
- 45:54And they are perhaps they even get down in this chair.
- 45:57And Ronnie will be in 30 years.
- 46:00Yeah. Loretta's father is cheating on her mother and the mom knows it.
- 46:04His name is Cosmo. Well, she loved the name Cosmo assumes it.
- 46:07Well, yeah. Short for Cosmopolitan.
- 46:11Cosmo, not what?
- 46:12So she lives at home with her parents.
- 46:14And like, there's a couple of conversations about where she going to live.
- 46:17Johnny's going to move in with them. Sure.
- 46:19It's the multi generational family.
- 46:21Well, like the one night she stays out when she I mean, she's cheating on her fiance.
- 46:25But the one night she stays out like the mom's like,
- 46:28I lied to your father and said you came home like I know she's supposed to be 37
- 46:31in this movie. I can see it in the 80s.
- 46:35Yeah, I was hardly alive at this time.
- 46:38If in 1987, if I had been out all night,
- 46:42my parents would definitely have words with me.
- 46:44I wouldn't understand them. I'd be too.
- 46:46But the fact of the matter is like there is a concern.
- 46:50And especially if like especially as a woman. Yeah.
- 46:54As a woman, I'm assuming New York plays a part in it
- 46:58and just living in a multi generational family.
- 47:01I didn't grow up in like a family where I had like my grandparents
- 47:04and stuff living with me.
- 47:06I saw my grandma naked one time.
- 47:08Now it's really weird. It was weird.
- 47:10I saw my grandma have a stroke.
- 47:12Wow. Let's just get one up.
- 47:14My grandma kept it pretty PG 13 when I was watching.
- 47:18And we got there. High five.
- 47:22We need to end on that joke podcast over.
- 47:24Yeah, we're done.
- 47:25Moonstruck wins. It's better.
- 47:29OK, but I mean, these
- 47:32Peter's leave in the room.
- 47:34Immigrant families and stuff, you know, they bring different values, values.
- 47:38Yeah. And so I also thought it was kind of gossipy.
- 47:41Like, oh, definitely.
- 47:42You're going to wonder where your daughter is.
- 47:44Yeah. He's engaged to someone else who's in another country.
- 47:47Like, where were you?
- 47:49Oh, the harlotry is intense.
- 47:51I do like, though. So they have sex.
- 47:54She gets up at night to look at the moon, goes back to bed,
- 47:57wakes up again and suddenly realizes what she's done.
- 48:00Well, you know, in the middle of the night, you're still kind of like
- 48:03absorbed in like the she was probably still drunk.
- 48:06Yeah. Plus, there's the love moon.
- 48:07Yeah. Yeah.
- 48:08The Bella Luna Bell Luna.
- 48:10Also, Bella Legosi is dead.
- 48:12Did I ever tell you guys that I saw I got to see about house?
- 48:15You did. Yeah.
- 48:16No, fuck. It was at Sasquatch, maybe two thousand five.
- 48:20Peter Murphy threw out a rose and I caught it and we made eye contact.
- 48:26And it was love. It was love. Bella Luna.
- 48:28Also, there were all these like kids that were like 14 that were there for him
- 48:32because him was playing like before they opened up her bow house.
- 48:35I forgot that that was a thing.
- 48:37I just thought you meant for him.
- 48:38Yeah. Nope.
- 48:40For the band, Capital H.
- 48:41I am with the weird like heart hearted heartagram heartagram.
- 48:46I watched a lot. I watched some people, the BAM.
- 48:48Yeah, that's mostly where I know him from.
- 48:50Oh, yeah. Well, when the BAM are podcasting
- 48:54when BAM Margera is in rehab now in Lamar Odom,
- 48:58he owns runs a bunch of.
- 49:00Oh, yeah. That's a rehabs now.
- 49:02So BAM Margera is in one of Lamar Odom's rehab houses now.
- 49:06I hope he does well.
- 49:08But when I was there, like all these little like kids were like,
- 49:11who are these guys? What are they doing?
- 49:14And I was just like, you don't even know children.
- 49:16You don't even understand.
- 49:18God, you fucking children.
- 49:21So anyway.
- 49:23Uh, yeah.
- 49:24Bella Luna. That was my Peter Murphy.
- 49:26So Cher says it's over.
- 49:29You know, it's never going to happen.
- 49:30Don't come to it. I'm going to come to the wedding.
- 49:32Don't come to the wedding.
- 49:32So his one ask is he wants the two things he loves
- 49:36at the same time to go to the opera with the woman he loves.
- 49:39Can I just we just stop on that for a second? Because yes,
- 49:43we don't we don't take breaks.
- 49:45We don't we don't stop. We're very.
- 49:48I think that like, OK, I'm going to get a little like
- 49:50lit crit on you guys.
- 49:52But how much more adult can you get than loving the opera?
- 49:57Right. As like as a symbol for being an adult,
- 50:00for being a mature human.
- 50:03I low key love opera.
- 50:05I did too. Thank you.
- 50:07And it well, I'm a child.
- 50:09It didn't come about really late because when I was in
- 50:12you have the hair for it, when I was still doing my undergrad in Montana,
- 50:17the only grad school that expressed interest in me
- 50:22was Ohio Conservatory of Opera.
- 50:25And at the time, I was way more interested in partying and stuff.
- 50:29And I was like, I don't want to go to opera school for lighting.
- 50:33I want to do something else.
- 50:34And then maybe like 10 years later, I looked back at my portfolio
- 50:37and it's like all I did like for lighting design, like I did dance stuff.
- 50:43I did music stuff and shows.
- 50:47So it's like, yeah, I should absolutely just be doing opera
- 50:50because it's the best way to do incredible, like insane lighting
- 50:55and work on like super fun things without having to like
- 51:00really think about it like a musical because it's just all music.
- 51:03Yeah. And it's I should have done it.
- 51:05I should have gone to Ohio.
- 51:08I'm shaking my head next. Great.
- 51:09Regret. Yeah.
- 51:10And why didn't I go to become a lighting designer for the operas?
- 51:15I would not be a washed out lighting designer turned electrician.
- 51:20So they both get a bit of a glow up shared.
- 51:23Has, you know, a little hair montage by, you know, new dress, new shoes
- 51:27meets with Nick Cage, who has a really nice suit on.
- 51:31So same hair, same wild hair.
- 51:33You can't tame the wolf.
- 51:34Now it's pushed back.
- 51:36But they go to the opera where they run into her father who's on a date.
- 51:40So that's awkward.
- 51:41Yeah. Cosmo with Lorna Lorna Lorna is something like that.
- 51:44Yeah. OK. The actress's name is Mimi then.
- 51:47And then, yeah, you know, there there's a bunch of like who's on first,
- 51:50like, who's that? Who's that?
- 51:52And he says he doesn't want his daughter to be what I'm assuming is Italian for whore.
- 51:55Yes. Who thought it's it's whore.
- 51:58Yeah. It's the same in French.
- 52:00Wait, can we be a foreign language podcast?
- 52:02We can. OK. Only for an Italian again.
- 52:05Butana, butana. Yeah.
- 52:07And in French, put on.
- 52:10Yeah. Or pitas if it's a woman, actually.
- 52:12So it does a man and it's asked this woman.
- 52:14But that betas.
- 52:16No, no, I'm talking about men.
- 52:17I'm looking at Sean over here.
- 52:19But they put the T.A.
- 52:22Poutine put put down whore.
- 52:26Sex worker, sir.
- 52:28Um, he's eating it nice. Yes.
- 52:30Well, this is going on.
- 52:31One of my favorite scenes is when Loretta's mom goes to have dinner alone
- 52:35at the same Italian restaurant where Loretta got engaged or proposed to.
- 52:39Can we talk about Bobo?
- 52:41Oh, yeah, we can talk about Bobo.
- 52:43Bobo is one of the servers here at this restaurant, and he is incredibly like
- 52:49he is. He's a simple man.
- 52:51Igor, he's an Igor.
- 52:52Yeah. Like he is Dr. Frankenstein's Igor.
- 52:55He's just like, oh, yes, yes, yes.
- 52:57Oh, I'll set your table for you, Mrs.
- 53:01I've got the champagne.
- 53:02But like so she winds up having dinner with
- 53:06John Mahoney because they're both eating alone now, where she has my favorite
- 53:10line of the film, which is, you know, let me give you some advice.
- 53:13My mom gave me don't shit where you eat.
- 53:16Yeah, because he's a college professor who's dating his students.
- 53:19Yeah. And he she approaches it so well, too, like as if it's some old wives
- 53:24like sage tale.
- 53:26It's like don't shit where you eat. Yeah.
- 53:28No, she is my favorite character in this movie.
- 53:30One hundred percent. She fucking rules.
- 53:31And great performance all the way through.
- 53:34And then Mahoney tries to like take her home.
- 53:36Oh, he he tries hard. Yeah.
- 53:38He does a great job of being a charming person.
- 53:40Yeah. Up until he becomes kind of the sex pest.
- 53:42He he credits this film with getting him like kind of known.
- 53:46And what's the point of him, though?
- 53:49So we have the mom and dad who are having marriage problems.
- 53:53We have the aunt and uncle who are, you know, that happy married couple
- 53:55that have been together.
- 53:56Being in love and in a relationship is the ideal state.
- 53:59Yeah. And he is sort of the warning of especially for men.
- 54:03Yeah. Right. If they don't do that, this is like happens to you.
- 54:05He's never been in love.
- 54:07He's bored and jaded with life.
- 54:09Like he says, you know, it's not that it's not that he's attracted to the whip,
- 54:14the young women as much as it is like he's been doing his job for so long
- 54:18now that he has no passion for it anymore.
- 54:20But he sees a young face and sees someone who is passionate about something
- 54:23he used to be and he just wants to be near that for a while.
- 54:26And it's the whole fear of death thing that she keeps going on about.
- 54:28I do. I mean, it's this fear of irrelevance, which is death for him.
- 54:31Yeah. So what's what's interesting, the fear of death thing comes up
- 54:34a lot with Olivia Dukakis's character.
- 54:36And then what's funny to me is when Johnny does come back,
- 54:39he's the only one who says it. Yeah.
- 54:42Outright. Yeah.
- 54:43She has my other great line is Olympia Dukakis.
- 54:46When Cosmo comes back home that night from the opera, Johnny's there.
- 54:50Johnny's back from Sicily.
- 54:51His mom's made a miraculous recovery.
- 54:53But Cosmo comes back in and she's like, Where have you been?
- 54:54It's like, I don't know where I've been.
- 54:56He just like blows her off.
- 54:57He's like, I don't know where I've been.
- 54:58I don't know where I'm going.
- 54:59And she just looks at him and goes, Cosmo,
- 55:02you're going to die one day just like the rest of us.
- 55:07Yeah. She's amazing.
- 55:08Saying the quiet part out loud.
- 55:10That was great.
- 55:12Also, I do love Cosmo's reaction as he comes in.
- 55:15Just be like, I don't know where I've been.
- 55:16I don't know where I'm going.
- 55:17I don't I don't know when it is.
- 55:19It's like, I don't know why.
- 55:21Johnny's come back.
- 55:22Their mother's made a miraculous recovery.
- 55:24He needs to talk to Loretta right now, but she's out.
- 55:27No one knows where she's at.
- 55:28She comes home the next day, has a love bite.
- 55:31Johnny's on his way.
- 55:32That's a hickey for people.
- 55:34No, they both do. Yeah, they both do.
- 55:35Yeah. No, she's like she's like you.
- 55:38Like, you know, she's like Johnny's going to.
- 55:39I was like, What? And her hair still kind of like done up.
- 55:41And she's like frantically trying to like dress down.
- 55:44She's like, You have a love bite. Cover that up.
- 55:46Doorbell rings.
- 55:47Mago's to answer it. It's it's Ronnie.
- 55:49I also like that this is the second time that shared
- 55:52does a costume change in a closet.
- 55:54Yes, that's true.
- 55:55Like in Nick Cage's apartment and then now this here.
- 55:59So this is the scene that I think most people know from this film.
- 56:02So it's Ronnie. Nick Cage comes in and Dukakis is like,
- 56:07Oh, well, you want some breakfast?
- 56:08And shares like, No, he doesn't.
- 56:10Nick Cage is just like, Yes, Mrs.
- 56:12Castorini, I would love some oatmeal.
- 56:15So just such a dumb.
- 56:17But it's like shares like, No, he's not saying he's going.
- 56:21And he's like, Yes, I would love some oatmeal, please.
- 56:25So there's so they sit down at the table awkwardly waiting for Johnny to show up.
- 56:29It's such an awkward breakfast.
- 56:31And then the dad comes down and is like, What's going on here?
- 56:35And like gets introduced to Ronnie finally, like officially.
- 56:37Grandpa comes down.
- 56:39Doorbell rings again. Everyone's nervous.
- 56:41It's the aunt and uncle.
- 56:42So now they're there. They're all having coffee.
- 56:44And then the last doorbell is Johnny coming in,
- 56:46who, guess what, wants to call off the marriage because his mom,
- 56:49his mom had a miraculous recovery.
- 56:51And if they get married, she'll die. Yeah.
- 56:54Superstition runs throughout this entire thing.
- 56:56Yeah. He told mom that she was or that they're going to get married.
- 56:59She recovered.
- 57:00And he's like, Oh, we can't get married now because it'll kill her.
- 57:03Yeah. And then she gets a weird jump to make.
- 57:06Then she gets so pissed off because like, you know, you said we were going to get
- 57:09married, like she doesn't want to marry this guy, but she's just like,
- 57:12that was a promise.
- 57:13Because if we learned anything from Tommy Corman, nobody backs out on it.
- 57:16So he wants his ring back, which is which is his pinky ring.
- 57:19Yeah. And then, you know, you guys should all start wearing pinkie rings.
- 57:23I think it's just I've been looking for a pinky ring.
- 57:25I'm looking for a really good one, actually.
- 57:28And then Nick Cage just goes, Oh, Maria.
- 57:29Yeah. So where's the ring?
- 57:31And he's just like, Johnny.
- 57:34So he takes Johnny's pinky ring and proposes.
- 57:37And then, yeah.
- 57:37And then that's pretty much the end of the film.
- 57:40They're all having champagne with sugar cubes.
- 57:43Yeah. Don't forget the scene where Olympia Dukakis confronts Cosmo.
- 57:47Oh, yes.
- 57:48Because that that's
- 57:51as powerful. Yeah.
- 57:52He says, What do I have to show for my life?
- 57:55And everything he has to show is right around.
- 57:57Yeah. You know, and she reminds me of that.
- 57:59She calls him out for that.
- 58:01I love that she's like Cosmo.
- 58:04You have to stop seeing this other person.
- 58:06And then he like just there's a pause and he stands up,
- 58:09smacks his hand down on the table, stands there for a second,
- 58:13sits back down and just says, OK, that's a good way to take it.
- 58:17Oh, wait.
- 58:18He knows he's beat.
- 58:19There's nothing else for him to do.
- 58:21Guys. Best joke is in the scene.
- 58:22It's before Johnny shows up.
- 58:23And it's just the whole family's around the table
- 58:25and everyone just awkwardly waiting for the doorbell to ring.
- 58:28And Grandpa just goes, Someone tell a joke.
- 58:31My favorite grandpa line is after that, even when everything's like done,
- 58:37everybody's like, you know, getting married and he's just sitting there
- 58:41crying and they're like, what's wrong?
- 58:42He's like, I'm so confused.
- 58:45That was my favorite part. Yeah.
- 58:46So and then this movie ends like all great adult documentaries
- 58:50with a knife fight with like all great adult documents
- 58:54fight with the chubby guy who's been cuckolded is just sitting in the corner
- 58:59watching. Oh, I love the family photo that they show during the credits.
- 59:04It's so awkward, too, because like, why is Johnny in that photo?
- 59:09It's like obviously they got up from breakfast
- 59:11and they took an engagement photo with everybody that was there.
- 59:14And like, Grandpa's there.
- 59:16But Johnny's just standing like in the middle, weirdly by himself.
- 59:20Got to be part of the family.
- 59:21So what do we think of Nick Cage's performance in this?
- 59:24The Italian accent. Where do we land on that Italian American accent?
- 59:27Yeah. Actually, I grew I knew people like that in New York.
- 59:31So I would say, yeah, you're the it's not bad.
- 59:35It's a little like some of the his one was OK.
- 59:38Some of the other people's Italians were a little too Italian for me.
- 59:42Well, here's the thing about it.
- 59:43Aggressively Italian. Yeah.
- 59:45The aunt that like barely had much in it was the dialect coach
- 59:49and hand coach for basically every non coach.
- 59:54I love that there's a hand coach.
- 59:55Yeah, they taught people like shares.
- 59:58You can tell I've got a quote from where she's talking about like learning.
- 1:00:03It was a good hand.
- 1:00:06The guy who played Johnny was like teaching her how to say things like theater.
- 1:00:10It's like you're going to go to the theater, but it's not.
- 1:00:13I'm going to go to the theater.
- 1:00:14It's the theater.
- 1:00:16There's a hand motion that you are presented.
- 1:00:18It's like it's the theater.
- 1:00:20The aunt taught Cher Dukakis
- 1:00:23and one of the other people who has zero Italian in them.
- 1:00:27How to use this accent of the dialect.
- 1:00:30And then also like just did hand talk coaching
- 1:00:34and taught them how to like be Italian.
- 1:00:38I thought Nick Cage was good in this movie.
- 1:00:40Oh, I think he's very good.
- 1:00:41I thought you could really see the change.
- 1:00:43There's like it's like there's before Cher and after Cher. Right.
- 1:00:46And so he's definitely a different.
- 1:00:48He said, and he does that well.
- 1:00:50And like I said, I actually found him attract.
- 1:00:53Like that's saying something.
- 1:00:55I do not find him attractive. Hardly ever.
- 1:00:59There's not a lot here.
- 1:01:01I find few occasions where I don't find him attractive now.
- 1:01:05But to be fair, I see him more than I see my girlfriend. So
- 1:01:10did we do a quote for you?
- 1:01:11Well, his hip movement was the quote.
- 1:01:13Oh, that's true.
- 1:01:14Yeah, really?
- 1:01:16I mean, those hips could talk.
- 1:01:17Those hips don't lie.
- 1:01:18To be honest, he doesn't have the quotes in this film.
- 1:01:22Now, this is a share.
- 1:01:23He's almost like a straight man in a comedy.
- 1:01:26Yeah. Everybody's playing off of him.
- 1:01:27But he's the one who's the most like acts the most unhinged.
- 1:01:30Well, he does have the biggest crazy moments. Yeah.
- 1:01:33And he's very obviously very good at that.
- 1:01:36And very early in his career, this is only like his 10th movie or something.
- 1:01:40Yeah, something like that.
- 1:01:41So where do you guys put it in the good cage?
- 1:01:43Bad movie, bad cage, good movie, good cage, good movie.
- 1:01:46Yeah, good cage, good movie.
- 1:01:47This is a good cage, good movie. Yeah.
- 1:01:49And I've got a quote from an interview here from Nick Cage,
- 1:01:53just discussing why he did Moonstruck.
- 1:01:57One of the reasons I did Moonstruck was because I thought it would allow me
- 1:02:00to take more of a chance with my next film,
- 1:02:03which is a low budget black comedy called Vampire's Kiss
- 1:02:06that hardly has mass commercial appeal written all over it.
- 1:02:10He said, I play a man who thinks who's insane and thinks he's a vampire.
- 1:02:15Everyone told me not to do it,
- 1:02:16but the script grabbed me by the collar and screamed,
- 1:02:19if you don't do this movie, you're a coward.
- 1:02:22I figured that in order to succeed in the film business,
- 1:02:25you can't be afraid to roll the dice.
- 1:02:27And as long as I'm betting, I want to bet everything I've got.
- 1:02:30So he only did this so he could do Vampire's Kiss, which I think is great.
- 1:02:34Yeah, that's astounding. Vampire's Kiss is well,
- 1:02:37it's it's the movie that really rocketed him into insanity.
- 1:02:42Yes, it developed the character of a cage. Yeah. So Nick Moonstruck.
- 1:02:50Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:02:51It was a real tight one for me.
- 1:02:53They're both fun. They're both very enjoyable.
- 1:02:56I for me, I think it's Moonstruck's just going to
- 1:02:59I'm going to enjoy watching that again.
- 1:03:01Yeah. Putting two romantic comedies against each other,
- 1:03:03I think is good in my world because I would usually be biased
- 1:03:08against the romantic comedy.
- 1:03:10I think we talked about this with It Could Happen to You.
- 1:03:13It's not really my bag, but this was done well,
- 1:03:17just like It Could Happen to You was done well. Yeah. And same director.
- 1:03:21It's fun. It's a real ensemble piece.
- 1:03:23It's so Nick Cage isn't like prevalent in it.
- 1:03:26If I had to like base it on how much Nick Cage you get,
- 1:03:29he's more involved in the other movie.
- 1:03:31But he's not better in the other movie.
- 1:03:33No, this is the better movie.
- 1:03:36Better performance, better performance.
- 1:03:38Weirder. This is I mean, he's a one handed Nicolas Cage.
- 1:03:41Yeah, he lost his head.
- 1:03:43It's he lost his bride.
- 1:03:46It's a weird movie. Yeah.
- 1:03:48Oh, the the scene where Cher slaps him
- 1:03:51and she's just like, slap out or snap out of it.
- 1:03:54Nick Cage had people coming up to him for like years after this movie.
- 1:03:59And they'd be like, snap out of it.
- 1:04:00But some people would also slap him.
- 1:04:03She also slaps the shit out of him that second time.
- 1:04:05Well, yeah, she slaps him twice.
- 1:04:06But Nick Cage is like, I don't know why people think that they can just come up
- 1:04:09to me and slap me and say snap out of it.
- 1:04:12Maybe they think I'm going to get them a role in something, but I can't.
- 1:04:17Real quick.
- 1:04:18There is some this weekend, K or cage news.
- 1:04:21We haven't done that in a while.
- 1:04:22The trailer for sympathy for the devil came out.
- 1:04:24Yes. That looks astounding.
- 1:04:27I'm real excited for that.
- 1:04:28Also today, a gameplay trailer dropped for the Nicholas Cage,
- 1:04:32Dead by Daylight DLC, where you do get to play as Nicholas Cage.
- 1:04:36Running away from movie monsters.
- 1:04:38Oh, nice.
- 1:04:39You can see the one running away.
- 1:04:41I was hoping the cage was going to be the monster.
- 1:04:44Both would be good, but I kind of want.
- 1:04:47I hope there's good like Nick Cage lines like while he's running away,
- 1:04:50like I just can't figure out why this is happening to me.
- 1:04:56I'm pretty sure he didn't record any lines for this.
- 1:04:58They're just using lines of his and the model pretty bad face scan.
- 1:05:02The model of the Nick Cage model is truly not good.
- 1:05:05Yeah. Oh, just in terms of like things that Nick Cage normally doesn't do.
- 1:05:10I found out that his first role was in a television series.
- 1:05:14He didn't tell anybody when he got started.
- 1:05:16He just got a like part in this one TV show that didn't make it.
- 1:05:22And then he made three films with his uncle.
- 1:05:25I think it's good he changed his name. Yeah.
- 1:05:27Oh, for sure. I think it was only like one movie where he was.
- 1:05:31Nick Coppola. That was just fast.
- 1:05:33I mean, talk about NEPO, baby.
- 1:05:34So he got away from that. Yeah.
- 1:05:38Anything else you want to say?
- 1:05:40No, I mean, so next up, we've got Lord of War and Captain Corelli's mandolin.
- 1:05:44So who do you have as guests on that?
- 1:05:47Just us. Do you want to come back?
- 1:05:49I don't know if I want to watch this movie.
- 1:05:51We don't either.
- 1:05:52Yeah. Also, get ready for some really good, quote unquote accent work.
- 1:05:57I don't think that's allowed on this podcast.
- 1:05:59Apparently, it becomes racist immediately.
- 1:06:02Yeah, exactly.
- 1:06:04So we're going to do it.
- 1:06:05Oh, actually, this is something I wanted to talk about.
- 1:06:09CIF is doing a David Lynch series this summer, starting up very soon.
- 1:06:17I love David Wild at Heart is going to be playing at the Egyptian
- 1:06:21three different nights.
- 1:06:23I'm going on July 3rd.
- 1:06:26And anybody also going on July 3rd
- 1:06:29see David Lynch's Wild at Heart in theaters.
- 1:06:32I'm there. It's like two weeks before we record for the episode.
- 1:06:36So it would be a great time to like get together.
- 1:06:39If any of any of our like patrons or anything or whatever patrons.
- 1:06:43Really have a tree. Yeah.
- 1:06:45We'll talk about them right now. Yeah.
- 1:06:46Who's our let's let's give thanks to our thanks to our sparkle buddies on Patreon.
- 1:06:51Josh, Sean, Josie, Rico, Matt and Adam and our cage dancers,
- 1:06:54Ira, John and Freeman.
- 1:06:56Yeah, big ups.
- 1:06:58We're doing shit here, Marissa.
- 1:07:00This isn't just something we do in Peter's basement.
- 1:07:03It's not just something we do in Peter's basement.
- 1:07:05Sometimes we do it in Sean's apartment, too.
- 1:07:08Yeah, we've got options.
- 1:07:11Thanks to your support.
- 1:07:13We can afford the gas to move our cast materials.
- 1:07:17Anyway, thanks, everyone, for listening.
- 1:07:20And remember, good night and good cacauldry.
- 1:07:23Yeah. And thanks to our guest. Oh, yeah.
- 1:07:25Marissa, did you have anything you wanted to plug?
- 1:07:28I don't that's really weird when people don't expect
- 1:07:31I know to ask them if they have anything you want to plug,
- 1:07:34because we got all sorts of pine cones and like dirt and stuff outside.
- 1:07:37I hear that's how bears do it.
- 1:07:39They just eat a bunch of pine cones and dirt and then they hibernate.
- 1:07:42I'm very they plug it up.
- 1:07:44And that's that.
- 1:07:45But you called her by
- 1:07:47the cold tree, the cold tree.
- 1:07:50And then the.
- 1:07:55Five.
- 1:08:00That's because you're drinking diet coke with baloney in it.
- 1:08:04Pimento log.
- 1:08:06Bologna. Mm hmm.
- 1:08:07This is a fine. Can you imagine slurping?
- 1:08:11I'm just going to keep talking about this.
- 1:08:12Slurping some champagne through a baloney straw.
- 1:08:16Like if you just cored out a piece of baloney and like,
- 1:08:19oh, drink some grape juice through it.
- 1:08:26Just bubbly, meaty juices in your mouth.
- 1:08:30Segway out of this one, Sean.
- 1:08:32Talk about God help us.
- 1:08:35Now keep going. This is this gold podcast gold.
- 1:08:41Yeah, but I am very bad with money.
- 1:08:44The people at home who don't know me, like I like to just spend money on jokes.
- 1:08:48I prefer it that way.
- 1:08:50I don't I don't need a lot of things, but I have a lot of things at home
- 1:08:53that are one off jokes and it would have been another Elvis suit.
- 1:08:58And another. Yeah, we're not going to approach that.
- 1:09:01I was going to say, I feel like that's highly reusable.
- 1:09:04I would use it all the time.
- 1:09:05Yeah, but you need like skinny Elvis and fat Elvis.
- 1:09:07And this part of my life, I'm in a fat Elvis phase.
- 1:09:10Well, you just need zippers on the side, right? To let it out.
- 1:09:13That really that really irked me for some reason.
- 1:09:18You can't tell me that something irks you because I'm going to latch onto it
- 1:09:21and I'm going to fucking you're going to get a bunch of weird letters from Nick now.
- 1:09:25Yeah, that's all you're going to get slipped on your door.
- 1:09:27Remy's going to go wild.
- 1:09:30That's their dog.
- 1:09:31Sorry, dog.
- 1:09:34I'm out and you hard.
