- 0:28SPEAKER_03: Is it possible?
- 0:29SPEAKER_03: Well, today we're bringing on Marina Tolentino from Hawaii.
- 0:33SPEAKER_03: She is a uh a super mom and super agent out there in Oahu, uh, who is running multiple businesses selling a crap load of homes, and she is a present parent.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: She is there for her kids, she is active in their lives, and somehow juggles all of this.
- 0:52SPEAKER_03: Wait until you hear Marina's schedule and all of the different things that she's juggling.

- 1:24SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: Have I got your attention now?
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: Here's your host, Dustin Broome.
- 1:32SPEAKER_03: What is up, guys?
- 1:33SPEAKER_03: Welcome back to the Massive Agent Podcast, episode 266.
- 1:37SPEAKER_03: And we have a hell of an episode today asking a very big question, a very bold question.
- 1:42SPEAKER_03: Can you be a great mother or father and be a top producer?
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: And if so, how?
- 1:46SPEAKER_03: How do you juggle all of it?
- 1:48SPEAKER_03: And we're bringing on someone, we're bringing on a super agent, super mom, super wife out of Hawaii, Marina Tolentino, who is juggling all of this and more.
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: She's an attentive parent.
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: She's a great mother.
- 2:01SPEAKER_03: She's a great spouse.
- 2:03SPEAKER_03: She is a great real estate agent who is one of the top producers in Hawaii.
- 2:07SPEAKER_03: And she runs a honey company.
- 2:09SPEAKER_03: She's the owner of Tolentino Honey Company.
- 2:11SPEAKER_03: She's the director of ops for the collab.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: She is head of sales for the Ferris Team Hawaii.
- 2:17SPEAKER_03: She's a YouTuber, and she's been doing all this in just uh in less than three years as a real estate agent.
- 2:24SPEAKER_03: And uh she has some really great tips, product productivity tips, and just an honestly mindset um perspective, mindset tips and perspective for how to approach life when you are juggling so many things.
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: Um a little spoiler alert, she is a human, just like everyone else.
- 2:42SPEAKER_03: She only has 24 hours in the day, just like you, just like me.
- 2:46SPEAKER_03: But what she does with them and the attitude that she approaches each day with is what allows her to do so much with the same amount of time.
- 2:55SPEAKER_03: So if that little introduction exhausted you just hearing, I get it.
- 2:59SPEAKER_03: Um, you're gonna be exhausted even more hearing all the stuff she's up to, but she makes it happen.
- 3:04SPEAKER_03: So if she makes it happen, it must be possible.
- 3:07SPEAKER_03: And I'm excited for you to hear from Marina today.
- 3:10SPEAKER_03: She is a rising star in the real estate industry, and she is just one of the best humans you'll ever beat.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: So super excited to introduce Marina here in a second.
- 3:18SPEAKER_03: Um, something I'm super excited about that I didn't realize until I was crunching some numbers and looking at some analytics earlier today.
- 3:26SPEAKER_03: But uh over the last two months, we have doubled, we have more than doubled.
- 3:30SPEAKER_03: We like almost, well, not quite three times.
- 3:34SPEAKER_03: We've more than doubled the size of the Massive Agent Society.
- 3:37SPEAKER_03: And and it's been super cool.
- 3:39SPEAKER_03: In just over the last two, uh sorry, two months, we've doubled the Massive Agent Society.
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: And the good news is the society is still open for um not quite a full week.
- 3:49SPEAKER_03: We close on February 1st.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: So we're open for new members until February 1st, then we close it down and uh we'll open again later on in the year.
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: But honestly, guys, the Massive Agent Society is my coaching group.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: This is where you get direct access to me, you get one-on-one access with me, you get group coaching, there's trainings, there's videos, there's scripts, there's all like everything.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 4:11SPEAKER_03: You owe it to yourself to see what makes the Massive Agent Society so powerful and so attractive to so many other like-minded agents from all around the country, right?
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: Agents like Edward, who got a listing after his fourth day in the group, just following our seven-day social media jumpstart system.
- 4:28SPEAKER_03: Uh, his fourth day, he got a listing.
- 4:30SPEAKER_03: And Brian, a new agent in Canada, got his first client in about two weeks following our system.
- 4:35SPEAKER_03: And then Nikki in Iowa got nine deals under contract in just a 45-day period following the massive agent social boot camp bonus training within the society because you get bonus trainings in addition to the main group as well.
- 4:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah, nine deals in 45 days.
- 4:52SPEAKER_03: Crazy.
- 4:52SPEAKER_03: So the real question to ask yourself is it more expensive to join the society or is it more expensive to not?
- 4:58SPEAKER_03: Serious question, right?
- 5:00SPEAKER_03: Uh most agents who who don't join, even though they want to, they think that they're saving money.
- 5:04SPEAKER_03: They see it as an expense.
- 5:06SPEAKER_03: I promise you, as someone who's spent um multiple six figures now on masterminds and coaches and trainings and programs, it is such a hack when you can when you can invest a little bit of money to just shorten the amount of time it takes to get results.
- 5:22SPEAKER_03: Because someone else who's already done the thing you're trying to do just gives you the blueprint.
- 5:26SPEAKER_03: They're like, hey, do these things now.
- 5:28SPEAKER_03: They hold your hand through it, and you get it rather than beating your head against the wall for the next year, two years trying to figure it out yourself, just invest a little bit of money to get the results now.
- 5:39SPEAKER_03: And so the agents that are doing that are getting the results now.
- 5:42SPEAKER_03: So all you need to do to find out what this program is all about, go over to MassiveAgent Society.com and uh make sure you join before it closes here in just the next few days.
- 5:54SPEAKER_03: And uh I think I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
- 5:58SPEAKER_03: Uh, you're gonna be like, wow, this really is an investment, not an expense.
- 6:01SPEAKER_03: And you'll see what I mean by it.
- 6:02SPEAKER_03: Uh MassiveAgen Society.com.
- 6:05SPEAKER_03: And if you're serious about hitting your goals this year, you can't afford to make things harder than they have to be.

- 6:14SPEAKER_03: Okay, you need you need the Massive Agent Society and you need follow-up boss, quite honestly.

- 7:02SPEAKER_03: We as professionals need to stay on top of the shit, which is hard, right?
- 7:05SPEAKER_03: Like, so where do you find the info?
- 7:07SPEAKER_03: Like, how can isn't there someone that can just give you the information, like tell you what you need to know, what you need to expect?

- 7:40SPEAKER_03: It is time to talk with Marina Tolentino out of Oahu, Hawaii, who is she's become one of my favorite people in real estate because she's just such a doer.
- 7:50SPEAKER_03: She does so much, she gets so much accomplished, and she's so willing to help other agents, and she's such a great teacher.
- 7:59SPEAKER_03: So let's jump into it right now and find out how she's juggling motherhood, running a uh a top-producing real estate team, running a honey company.
- 8:08SPEAKER_03: Like she she's into bees and honey and all this cool stuff.
- 8:11SPEAKER_03: Um, like really cool.
- 8:13SPEAKER_03: They have this this big, it's well, it's not a vineyard.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: What is it?
- 8:17SPEAKER_03: The property with all the bees, right?
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: And all the beehives and stuff.
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: I should I should I should ask her what that's called.
- 8:23SPEAKER_03: But you know, they own that, this big property with all these bees and they're on in a uh on Oahu.
- 8:29SPEAKER_03: So cool.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: And uh and she's going to give you some hacks for how to juggle it all and to be productive and actually have success while juggling all these different things.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: Um because, you know, we also have lives, don't we?
- 8:44SPEAKER_03: She's gonna teach you how to thrive in spite of everything you have going on, and in a way, because of it.
- 8:51SPEAKER_03: So let's jump into the into our talk right now with Marina Tolentino out of Oahu, Hawaii, right now.
- 8:56SPEAKER_03: What's up, guys?
- 8:57SPEAKER_03: Welcome back to the Massive Agent Podcast.
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: I'm here with Marina Tolentino, one of our amazing superstar agents in Hawaii, and she is juggling more things than any of us could, well, even handle thinking about, let alone doing, and she's doing it very well.
- 9:13SPEAKER_03: So I wanted to have Marina on the show because she's she's selling a bunch of homes, she's um, she's taking care of her kids, she's running a honey company, and she's she's just doing so many things well.
- 9:26SPEAKER_03: Most of us can't do one thing well.
- 9:29SPEAKER_03: So, Marina, welcome to the Massive Agent Podcast.
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: How's it going?
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: Hi, I'm so good.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: I'm stoked to be here.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: Um, we were saying a little bit before the show, but I've literally watched you and listened since before I got licensed.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: So it's fun to full circle moment.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: It really is.
- 9:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's crazy.
- 9:44SPEAKER_03: And so you were listening before we we started working together.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:48SPEAKER_03: So when I was doing my test business partners with uh with how our team works.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was studying for the license and then um started interviewing, and it was through the interview with Travis and Nisa, that's why I found them was through your podcast.
- 10:00SPEAKER_03: Oh, that's awesome.
- 10:01SPEAKER_03: That's so cool.
- 10:02SPEAKER_03: Crazy Wow, all right, it comes full circle.
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: Well, you have definitely earned being here today, and you know, I was lucky enough to get to spend some time with you and see how you do things when I was in Honolulu, I think that was in September of last year.
- 10:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: And which I gotta get back there.
- 10:18SPEAKER_03: Amazing, amazing island.
- 10:20SPEAKER_03: But um, you are selling a bunch of homes and you're a relatively new agent.
- 10:24SPEAKER_03: So um, you know, above and beyond the intro that I gave you, you know, how do you see yourself?
- 10:31SPEAKER_03: How do you describe yourself?
- 10:33SPEAKER_03: What if I was to ask you who is Marina Tolentino, um, what would you say to that?
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: Uh, that's a great question.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: And it's a hard one because I do do so many things, but I would just say I pick something and I master the craft, but I always bring my relationships along for the ride, making sure that everyone's being served appropriately.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: And that includes my family, that includes my past fears and stuff.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: And we just kind of like grow and evolve together.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: Um, and so even though I've done multiple careers, I'm making sure that I'm like everyone's along for the ride, if that makes sense.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: Um, but now I mean I lead people, I teach people, that's what I'm passionate about.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: It's the most fulfilling part of my job.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: And that includes teaching clients about how to buy and sell houses.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: Um, but I love being the educator, it's really fun.
- 11:13SPEAKER_03: Well, and you're you're in a great role for that.
- 11:15SPEAKER_03: So I love that you that you call yourself an educator because far too many agents uh I don't think they see themselves as that.
- 11:22SPEAKER_03: Um when really, like if you think of yourself as an educator or an advisor, like you are just setting yourself up to help so many more people because that's why they're hiring agents, right?
- 11:33SPEAKER_03: That they're not hiring Marina to open a door for them.
- 11:35SPEAKER_03: They could have any chimp do that.
- 11:37SPEAKER_03: Like they they hire you for a specific reason.
- 11:41SPEAKER_03: Um, how did you grow into that role?
- 11:43SPEAKER_03: You know, uh so first off, how long have you been in real estate?
- 11:46SPEAKER_03: And how like how did you grow into this role of top producer in a relatively short period of time?
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it's funny as you're saying that, I'm kind of connecting the dots in my head.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: So I've been a realtor for two and a half years.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: Um, but before this, if you go way back like 2011, I graduated with a degree in early childhood education, and I didn't even like connect the dots that that's education, duh.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: Um, but I could be a preschool teacher if I wanted to.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: Tried that first and didn't really love it.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: I was like, I'm gonna save this part of me for when I have kids.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: Um, but basically I became a wedding planner 10, no, 12 years ago now, and I was an educator in that role too, where literally someone's just getting engaged and they're saying, help me through this process, hold my hand.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: And it's up to you to help educate them on all the possibilities and all the rays and the financial things and everything.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: And then fast forward again uh when we started our honey company, this was 2017.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: I didn't know about the world of bees and immediately fell in love.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: And then automatically people in media started coming to me asking about beekeeping in Hawaii.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: What is it really like?
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: What are the benefits of raw honey?
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: And so again, you're educating.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: And then we started a rental company, same thing.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: I'm educating there, became a stager, was educating sellers on staging, and then now it's real estate.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: So it's like it kind of all was a this big puzzle piece that's come together.
- 13:01SPEAKER_03: So are you just a glutton for punishment, just adding all these new things onto your plate?
- 13:05SPEAKER_03: Or or I mean what what's happening here?
- 13:07SPEAKER_03: Because um I'm exhausted.
- 13:09SPEAKER_03: Just thinking about your schedule.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a it's just like dance of curiosity and the entrepreneur in me with the shiny object.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: But also when I see a really good thing and a really good idea, I can't walk away from it.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: So I make sure that I execute the vision, but then as it grows, I delegate it off and I decide to level up and level up and level up and just move on from there.
- 13:30SPEAKER_03: And that's a very important point.
- 13:31SPEAKER_03: So you are from what I know about you, you are not someone that just like dips your toes in and like I'll try this thing and then quit, and then go over here and try this thing and then quit.
- 13:40SPEAKER_03: Like you, you do the thing, and then you're like, you're like, okay, done this, then you add something else onto it and and achieve there.
- 13:49SPEAKER_03: So like have you always been wired that way?
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: I don't know, actually.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm trying to think if there was like ever a moment.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: Actually, in our leadership retreat, we just went through this like, what's one job you hated?
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: The one thing I quit was being like the egg lady in the cafeteria at the dorm.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: That was like a good six-month stint.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: Other than that, I think I have finished everything that I've ever wanted to do.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: And then you move on.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: You like you reach this fulfillment level in your career where it's like, okay, either I scale this and I'm gonna take this in a different direction, or I move on to the next thing.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: And so I like having closure and knowing, like, okay, this thing is bagged and wrapped up, tied up with the bow, let's move on to the next curiosity.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: And that's what's fun about real estate is you can do that literally over and over and over and keep your license active and like grow these all of these affiliates and who knows what the world wants, you know?
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: You really can do a lot.
- 14:36SPEAKER_03: Uh yes, you can.
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: And you and you're showing that.
- 14:39SPEAKER_03: When you if you had to like, how do you see yourself?
- 14:45SPEAKER_03: Um, because you're wearing so many different hats.
- 14:47SPEAKER_03: Are you like a real estate agent first?
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: Are you the owner of a honey company first?
- 14:51SPEAKER_03: And real estate's just kind of a side thing.
- 14:53SPEAKER_03: Like, how do you see yourself?
- 14:54SPEAKER_03: What's your what's your priority, aside from your family, obviously?
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so I guess the quick answer is I always say I'm a multi-passionate entrepreneur who happens to have a honey company, but my main goal right now and my main time is spent on real estate.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: That's my main career.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: Um, and my bread and butter, of course.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: And then I'm a mom as well, and so I always talk about my kids and how that's a part of my family and entrepreneurial lifestyle.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: Um, so it's never a straight answer.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: It's always like, well, which version of Marina do you want?
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: And I'll give you that one.
- 15:22SPEAKER_03: Fair enough.
- 15:23SPEAKER_03: Fair enough.
- 15:24SPEAKER_03: Well, let's talk about the kids because uh, you know, I remember what it was like um having my first kid as I was trying to get my real estate business off the ground, and and it was extremely challenging for not just me, but for my wife.
- 15:40SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, it was especially with your first kid, you don't know what to expect, right?
- 15:44SPEAKER_03: So we were wildly unprepared financially and mentally.
- 15:49SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, walk us through some of the challenges that you've had being a mother and launching a real estate career.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: Totally.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: So for perspective, 20 January 2020, I had my second kid, which is a daughter.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: Um, so I got licensed in March, April.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: So she was three, four months old.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: Um, and I was just doing the nap time hustle.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: Like they're still newborn-ish, they're napping four times a day, and I would just like cram my courses during nap time.
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: And then fast forward by June, I got licensed.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: So she's six months at this age, but Ryan was home with me, my husband was home, and we were doing this multi-passionate entrepreneur dance together.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: So he would go to the AP and handle the bees, I'd watch the baby, then flip and switch.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: And by the way, at the time we had a five-year-old boy as well, so we've always had the two.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: And then he was going to preschool and now kindergarten, so it was like a much easier time in that sense.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: Um, but we really just learned like, hey, I'm at capacity, I need dedicated work time, and you need dedicated work time, so let's just do this shift thing.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: Um, and it worked out really well.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: And then in the beginning, like it's a grind.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: Like, you know you're gonna have to put in extra hours, you know you're gonna have to stay up late.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: And so if that means, okay, kids go down at eight and I've got two more works to do two more hours of work to do, then you figure it out and you get it done.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: Um, but it was never a deterrent for me to start a career or a deterrent for me to be successful.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: It's like, okay, I'm in this situation, let's make the most of it and make the best memories at the same time.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: Um, so it's gotta be like this family unit.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: We're all on this ride together for sure.
- 17:15SPEAKER_03: You have this extreme determination to figure the shit out and to make it work.
- 17:20SPEAKER_03: And and not everyone has that.
- 17:23SPEAKER_03: You know, you see it with with the agents on your team and agents that you're connected with.
- 17:28SPEAKER_03: Not everyone has that.
- 17:29SPEAKER_03: Uh maybe they're just unwilling to go through that um, you know, that period, that season of their life where it's it's a mess and they have no balance, and and you know, you're you're dropping, you're dropping shit.
- 17:42SPEAKER_03: Like it's crazy.
- 17:45SPEAKER_03: Um were you raised to to like to see things through, or like do you enjoy the challenges?
- 17:53SPEAKER_03: Like, you know, I I guess what I'm trying to get at is you have figured these things out like time and time again, and others aren't able to or aren't willing to.
- 18:06SPEAKER_03: What do you think differentiates you?
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: Um, where do I even?
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: I just it's something I'm never gonna be a quitter.
- 18:12SPEAKER_03: I'm asking the hard-hitting questions for this.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: No, I'm like, you're making me think.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: Um I'm never gonna be a quitter for one.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: And so if I do fail, it's that I knew I was willing to fail, number one.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: So accepting the risk of failure and like I'm just gonna give it my all and like see what happens.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: But I've never been one to not give it my all because I knew it was like a it wasn't fair to myself if I didn't.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: It wasn't fair to my husband if I didn't give it my all.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: Um, and I never really had like a thick safety net either.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: It's like we've been self-sufficient, and if I didn't provide income or if Ryan didn't provide income, um, so backstory, he used to be Coast Guard.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: That was a really nice, comfortable paycheck every month.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: Like we knew that money was coming, and then you go into entrepreneurialship and you're like, wow, if I don't produce anything, I'm not putting food on the table and I'm not paying my rent this month, and you really figure it out.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: And I think just over the years, like you said, I haven't been doing entrepreneurialship for like a new thing.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: This has been almost 15 years in the making.
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: You build confidence over time and you prove to yourself that you can do hard things.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: And when those months are in the negative, and when those are months are that you owe somebody big or like taxes are due, you just pull shit out of the word works.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: I don't know, you find a way to make it work, but that's what builds the confidence to keep trying and keep being willing to fail, really.
- 19:21SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 19:22SPEAKER_03: And one of the coolest parts, Marina, is your kids are watching it.
- 19:26SPEAKER_03: Like your your kids are watching you and your husband figure this out and and bust your ass and and build something meaningful and uh and it's cool.
- 19:36SPEAKER_03: Um it's really cool.
- 19:38SPEAKER_03: I I just respect what you what you've built um so much, you know, and we've only known each other for a couple of years.
- 19:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but I mean you you've already become one of the top producers in Hawaii, right?
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: And I think that was real actually really insightful too, because before you start in the industry, you look around at all these big numbers and big names, and I don't know, they just seem very threatening and like untouchable.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: And then you get in and you're like, okay, this isn't really that hard.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: Like it's not complicated, anyways.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: It's super simple.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: It does take hard work and hard effort.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: But once you get that snowball built and you get those first couple deals under your belt, like it's doable.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: And then you're like, wait, what is everybody else doing?
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: Like, if I'm just doing this from like kind of trying hard, what if I actually went all 110% in?
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: Like I'd be untouchable.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: And if I didn't have kids, there's really no excuse.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: And so it just makes you like open your eyes a little bit to the possibilities.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: Um, and then it almost like after that year two, I was like, wait a minute, these guys aren't even competition anymore.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: Like for me, it was all for my ego.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: I just had to beat these people or make these numbers and I'd be successful.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: Now it's quality of life.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: Like, okay, I know I can do X amount of deals if I just do the numbers.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: Like the math makes sense.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: You just have to put in the effort.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: After that, it's like, okay, well, now that we have that number, what do we want to do with our life?
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: Like, what's the real quality?
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: What's the day-to-day look like?
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: How's dinner at the table look like?
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: You know, it really is big picture.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: So I want more agents to understand there's so much more than transactions in your life.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: Like, let's get clear.
- 21:03SPEAKER_03: Damn right.
- 21:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:05SPEAKER_03: Uh, there's plenty of agents that are only focused on those that do a lot of transactions, but they don't realize that that person that's selling, let's say, 500 homes a year, works 100 hours a week.
- 21:18SPEAKER_03: They're a horrible parent, horrible spouse.
- 21:20SPEAKER_03: Maybe they've gone through multiple multiple spouses because they're just married to working.
- 21:26SPEAKER_03: And I mean, if you want that, cool, but I I don't want that.
- 21:30SPEAKER_03: You know, I um I know you don't want that.
- 21:33SPEAKER_03: And and so it's it's refreshing when you can meet someone uh meet others and see other leaders in our industry who are not horrible parents, like they're great parents and they they have they're there for their kids, yet they have these massive businesses selling hundreds, if not thousands, of homes every year, and they're humans just like you and I.
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: Um it's just choices.
- 21:56SPEAKER_03: The difference between us is just choices, right?
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: Yep, hundred percent.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: It's like what are you doing when you get home at So what are you working on?
- 22:06SPEAKER_03: You know, I know that you're obviously trying to sell more homes, but are you are you planning on building a sales team of your own?
- 22:14SPEAKER_03: I know that you're the you told me your title earlier with the Ferris Team Hawaii.
- 22:18SPEAKER_03: Um you're running the show for the Ferris Team Hawaii, but um are you planning on building that out?
- 22:23SPEAKER_03: Are you, you know, what's next for you in real estate aside from just selling more homes?
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: Totally.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: And actually, I don't really want to sell a lot more homes, which is funny because you just did a podcast episode about that.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: Like, should you sell more homes?
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: Um, so last year I did 26 transactions, and that was the best year I've ever made.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: That was the most money I've ever made in my life.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: And I was like, okay, I get it now.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: Like I see what this life is like.
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: I don't really need to produce double that every year.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: Like, if I can just sustain, you know, like if I can get to 200k a year, I am happy it's more than enough.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: And then on top of that, we have other ways to create revenue in our lives and I have multi-sources of income.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: But really, it's like the quality of life factor is huge.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: So, yes, continuing to grow the Ferris team here in Hawaii, we are actively hiring PS if anyone else wants to join our team.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: Um, but if we can really grow and scale that and then plant those seeds in other places of the country, that's really the big picture goal is to have a multi-state network and a multi-country community to just really grow and help each other.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: That's the funnest part for me is like teaching people.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: I love to mentor, I love to coach, um, really just giving back what I've learned through life and experiences.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: And it's not just business business, but it's on the personal side too.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: There's so much of this business that's personal development related.
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: And so just giving that back to people to help encourage them, inspire them, that's 110% what's fulfilling for me.
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: Um, but through real estate business, it's like I don't need to do crush the numbers.
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: I need to do fulfill the relationships.
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: That's more important.
- 23:48SPEAKER_03: So selling 100 homes by yourself per year is not it's not on your list of goals.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: No.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: And I know I could, of course, but I mean, let's go back to July of 2022.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: I had 12 in escrow and I was a fucking crazy person.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't need to have that many in escrow at all times.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: I did have an assistant and I still do, but even then it's like, yes, my team is showing for me now.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: I delegate all my showings out, but still there's just like a certain number of like, I shouldn't have my clients on a sticky note because I can't remember their name.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: That's just too much for my brain.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: Um, and so I know, like, hey, five transactions a month is a really happy number for me.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: If I can just keep that going, I'm doing great.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: Um, and we just from there, then the rest of my time is spent on the things that's really fulfilling to me.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: Like I said, that's the relationships, that's giving back, that's really helping our community grow.
- 24:36SPEAKER_03: That that's awesome.
- 24:37SPEAKER_03: And I mean, you sell 26 homes in Hawaii, that's like selling 50 homes in another market, in another average market.
- 24:45SPEAKER_03: Like, what's your average price point?
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: It's like a million fifty for a single person.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: Oh, for me, you mean for this, like where I'm at?
- 24:54unknown: Yeah.
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: So median price point is probably 800,000 for my clients, but for the area single family is like a million fifty for a single family.
- 25:02SPEAKER_03: Not a bad market to start out in.
- 25:04SPEAKER_03: That that's that's great.
- 25:05SPEAKER_03: And and that's important too, because I know that um I know you understand this, but I don't think a lot of agents think about it consciously.
- 25:15SPEAKER_03: It's not necessarily about the number of homes sold, it's it's about the income, right?
- 25:20SPEAKER_03: I mean, yes, you're you get you're rewarded, it's rewarding to sell homes to clients and help them to um achieve this huge milestone in their lives.
- 25:30SPEAKER_03: It's super fulfilling, it's amazing.
- 25:32SPEAKER_03: But like you said, you get to a certain point where it's too much and you're you're fully comfortable with like, okay, this is what I need income-wise, and you're totally fulfilled by it.
- 25:44SPEAKER_03: And I respect the shit out of that because you're not chasing some metric that the industry tells you is important.
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: Which I've also recently accepted that all of those charts and stuff are usually off, especially for team members, like the ones that they're reporting for the top agents, like they don't even count the team agents.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: It's so weird.
- 26:01SPEAKER_00: And so it just it's totally a fluke.
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: Don't fall for the charts, guys.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 26:09SPEAKER_03: A little inside baseball.
- 26:11SPEAKER_03: There are so many like accounting gimmicks and like different ways to calculate shit and and like what's considered a team versus a teamerage versus like uh like it's ridiculous.
- 26:23SPEAKER_03: Um and it's very much a game, and and that's fine, it is what it is, but uh most agents just get caught up in the bullshit and they're like, Oh, I need to I sold 40 homes, but I'm not happy, I need to sell 80, or I'm a loser.
- 26:37SPEAKER_03: And and it's like, well, if you're not there, if you're not able to go to your kids' soccer game, yeah, that you're kind of a loser.
- 26:44SPEAKER_03: I don't give a shit how much money you made.
- 26:46SPEAKER_03: Um there's just more to it than that.
- 26:48SPEAKER_03: And so I love talking with people like you who see it that way, and you're around people that see it that way.
- 26:54SPEAKER_03: And and let me say this about this this culture that you've built within the Ferris team.
- 26:58SPEAKER_03: I am I'm connected with with a few hundred agents uh you know within our within our team, and you guys by far have the highest retention.
- 27:08SPEAKER_03: Like in the collab in general, and then the Ferris team, you guys just keep agents and they produce.
- 27:17unknown: Yeah.
- 27:18SPEAKER_03: Um you you guys have this machine, so what the hell are you guys doing?
- 27:21SPEAKER_03: You know, what what is it about the culture you've built within the collab and the Ferris team that keeps people and gets them producing, producing and selling homes so fast?
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: Well, I think it goes back to having a servant-led heart and a mission too, for sure.
- 27:35SPEAKER_00: So once you get to a point of being content with yourself and you're not chasing the ego game, you're all about giving back, right?
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: And so for me, I know like, hey, I can I can hit hunt, or what is it, hunt and fish for myself if I have to, but I would much rather give it back almost.
- 27:50SPEAKER_00: It's like, I know I can meet my quotas, like that's no problem.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: But now I want all my teammates to meet their quotas and exceed that.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: I want everyone on my team and in our organization to make the most money they've ever made in their life, too.
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: Um, we have agents who are still in credit card debt, or they're just they haven't been financially responsible in the past, but now they're on the path to fixing it.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: I want to be part of that journey and really help inspire them and like get them out of those holes and be profitable.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: Like that's the whole point of this.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: Make profitable businesses.
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: Like, we're not in this rat race to break even.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: We want to definitely like have sustainable income, step back from the rat race and actually enjoy life.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: Um, and you can do that.
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: You just have to tap in with the right people.
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: It really is true.
- 28:28SPEAKER_03: Uh absolutely.
- 28:29SPEAKER_03: Well, it the proof is in the pudding.
- 28:30SPEAKER_03: You guys have certainly built a machine that um that is working well.
- 28:34SPEAKER_03: It's it's impressive.
- 28:36SPEAKER_03: So I don't know if you knew that, but uh the you know, from what I see, your your team is just firing on all cylinders and it's cool.
- 28:44SPEAKER_03: It's really cool to see.
- 28:45SPEAKER_03: Um when you let's go back to being an agent and being a mother, being a parent in general.
- 28:54SPEAKER_03: I mean, you don't know what it's like to be a father, but let's let's so let's talk about being a mother.
- 28:58SPEAKER_03: Um what have been some of the hardest things that that any aspiring agent who's also a mother needs to consider?
- 29:05SPEAKER_03: Maybe, maybe they're they're about to have their first kid or they're just trying to figure out how to be successful and juggle parenthood.
- 29:14SPEAKER_03: How have you done it?
- 29:15SPEAKER_03: What are some of those daily daily things that you do?
- 29:17SPEAKER_03: Like how do you structure your day?
- 29:20SPEAKER_03: Help out the mothers who are not, who just don't have it figured out like you do quite yet.
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: I think being proactive is 110% huge.
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: You have to think like five, six days, hours ahead always.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: And so you're almost like, okay, if this shit happens in this, and if this thing happens in that, and you just have like three backup plans for every situation, but then as you grow and you learn together with your child and with your spouse, then you start to realize, okay, the likelihood of all of these things happening is either true or false.
- 29:49SPEAKER_00: And then by the time you get to the second kid, instead of leaving the house, like I think there's some diaper commercial where like the first kid, you have like 50 things in your diaper bag, and by the second one, you just have a diaper and a thing of wipes, like that's all you need.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: It's so true with doing business that way and just doing life and family together that way.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: It's in the beginning, yes, you overprepare, right?
- 30:08SPEAKER_00: So you prepare for disaster at all times.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: But then in the second time, and the more you do it, you start to realize like there's so many factors outside of your control.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: Just control what you can control and then always be communicating.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: Like that's one of the things I think just on a marriage level, too, of like you have to share what's on your plate.
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: You have to say, like, hey, I'm about to freaking explode unless I get these things delegated or someone else helps me with this stuff.
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: But I think as women, so often we just keep piling it on because we want to please other people, we want to feel like we're taking care of everybody.
- 30:37SPEAKER_00: Um, and then internally, like, we are dying and we are about to freak out.
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: And then at the end of the day, the last thing we want is for our husbands to cuddle.
- 30:44SPEAKER_00: And I just appeal for the husbands.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: But it's because we try to carry it all and it's not our job to carry it all.
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: We're supposed to share the burden, you know?
- 30:51SPEAKER_00: And so that communication factor is huge.
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: But it's something as new parents, you're gonna have to learn to walk the walk together and figure it out together as a couple.
- 30:59SPEAKER_00: You're a one team, and so always remembering team hat on, you know, it's not me versus him.
- 31:04SPEAKER_00: We're not keeping score here.
- 31:05SPEAKER_00: It's how do we get through this together.
- 31:08SPEAKER_03: Give some more tips on how you and your husband delegate certain things, how you communicate.
- 31:13SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, give us some some tips on what you guys have learned along the way to be more effective in that in that regard.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to think.
- 31:21SPEAKER_00: Um so Ryan has always been like the outside man.
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: Anything outside of the house, that's his domain, the yard, the garage, the cars, like that's his world.
- 31:29SPEAKER_00: Whereas mine is definitely inside the home.
- 31:31SPEAKER_00: So I'm taking care of the cooking and the cleaning.
- 31:33SPEAKER_00: Um, we do split the laundry, and actually, if he notices that I'm getting overwhelmed, he'll volunteer and do the laundry, which I'm very thankful for him for having that insight.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: Um, but I'm not gonna lie, like we're not a perfect family.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: There's gonna be weeks where we have five loads of laundry on the bed and it just keeps getting pushed around and stuff, and that happens too.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: Um, but you go through seasons of life, and then um we'll also like volunteer to do the dishes, or we just kind of like gauge each other as we go through marriage of who needs what when, and then communicating in advance.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: So part of that is the Sunday check-in.
- 32:04SPEAKER_00: On a Sunday, we'll do the calendar for the week.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: Um, if he's working, then I'll definitely be communicating to him via text, like, hey, these things are going on, like plan proactively for these things.
- 32:13SPEAKER_00: Um, and then we always have the family wall calendar in addition to the shared Google calendar, eye calendar, so we can see what each other's doing.
- 32:20SPEAKER_00: Does he want to see all my real estate stuff?
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: Hell no.
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: That stresses him out.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: So we have a separate one that's like a home calendar and a work calendar.
- 32:28SPEAKER_00: Um, but if he needed to, I could definitely share that with him.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: But I think it's just again, overcommunicating.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: Don't ever assume that your spouse knows what you need or what you think they need.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: Just say it.
- 32:39SPEAKER_00: Just freaking say the things, and then you guys will be fine.
- 32:41SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, little things like that.
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to think with the kids.
- 32:45SPEAKER_00: Um, definitely like if I've got a bunch of appointments or Zoom calls and stuff and the kids are home from school because it's a holiday, then Ryan will be proactive and take them out.
- 32:53SPEAKER_00: He's gonna take them to the playground, he's gonna take them to the beach or like do something family activity outside of the house.
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: Otherwise, they're gonna be crazy.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: Um, and same thing.
- 33:00SPEAKER_00: If I know he's gonna be on work because he works 12-hour shifts right now, then I know that's mommy time.
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: And so I plan accordingly for that in my calendar.
- 33:07SPEAKER_00: I'm like, okay, Ryan's working from 1 p.m.
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: to 1 a.m.
- 33:10SPEAKER_00: three days a week now, then I have to figure out those three nights with me, and we just make it mommy time.
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: Like it's a fun thing because we don't get daddy.
- 33:17SPEAKER_00: So we just really proactively know, okay, schedule a week in advance, week in advance, let's rock this out, and then the days we have together, we make the most of them too.
- 33:26SPEAKER_03: There you go.
- 33:27SPEAKER_03: I was gonna ask you what you guys like how far ahead do you plan the next week?
- 33:33SPEAKER_03: Do you like the night before you looking at the next day?
- 33:35SPEAKER_03: Like, how much communication are you guys doing with like, hey, here's what's gonna happen tomorrow, here's what's gonna happen next week, just to get all your shit um coordinated and figured out because I know a lot of people, and my wife and I were like this for a long time.
- 33:51SPEAKER_03: We waited too long and then we're like, well shit, I can't I can't go pick Kaya up from school because I have the the society call or or whatever.
- 33:59SPEAKER_03: And so like we screwed that up enough and we realized, oh, we should probably talk about it like a week before and sharing calendars and you know all of that stuff.
- 34:07SPEAKER_03: So talk more about that.
- 34:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean the Sunday thing is it like literally Sunday, usually afternoon, because my two-year-old still naps.
- 34:14SPEAKER_00: That's my time.
- 34:15SPEAKER_00: Um I bust out the wall calendar and the the phone calendar together, and I'm just coordinating everything and then I'm making sure, confirming that he's seen whatever I've input for the week.
- 34:24SPEAKER_00: Um, his schedule is pretty set, so he doesn't have a lot of these like floating alternatives that I do.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: Uh, but when stuff does pop up, because in an inevitable we will, I'm just making sure we're communicating, like, hey, I know this day you said you had XYZ, but so-and-so is in town for showings, like I have to drop everything and do this.
- 34:40SPEAKER_00: Either I'm gonna try to delegate it to a team member first, or I do have in-laws here that are really helpful when it comes to watching the kids and stuff, and then back up, like, see, there's like three levels here of delegation, like emergency support here.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: Um, then I will call in like a care.com sitter or the best friend that lives close by.
- 34:57SPEAKER_00: Like, I'll figure out something, but it's always to say, like, I know we had a plan, so and so is changing, confirming you're receiving this message, basically, and now let's plan and attack it together.
- 35:07SPEAKER_03: You're resourceful, right?
- 35:09SPEAKER_03: There's that's why you get shit done, is because you a lot of people like, well, I don't have a babysitter, so I can't do that thing.
- 35:17SPEAKER_03: But you just you figure it out.
- 35:19SPEAKER_03: Like there's care.com, there's neighbors, there's in-laws, there's friends, there's you know, um you just don't let it stop you, and that's really cool.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: And just power of churches.
- 35:30SPEAKER_00: Churches love to watch kids.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: I'm just saying.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: There's always the aunties at the churches.
- 35:35SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 35:39SPEAKER_03: Love it.
- 35:40SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 35:41SPEAKER_03: Um are you did you have a nanny or anything like that, or do you plan to anytime in the future?
- 35:46SPEAKER_00: No, we never did.
- 35:47SPEAKER_00: Um, and I think that's just coming from a place of where I wanted to be really present with our kids and have them along this entrepreneurial ride with us.
- 35:54SPEAKER_00: So that's where we've done a really good job of doing the intentional, I'm gonna call it shift parenting of this is mommy time, this is daddy time, this is together time, um, and making sure that it works with the schedule.
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: But for as long as we've had kids, there's always been one of us usually with them.
- 36:09SPEAKER_00: Um and really it's only if the in-laws are unavailable, then I'll hire help.
- 36:13SPEAKER_00: But it gets expensive too.
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: So just even just having like our two-year-old in preschool, that's like almost$2,000 a month, you know.
- 36:19SPEAKER_00: And if you have multiple kids under age five that you're trying to find care for, it gets super expensive.
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: And then you start to waive for the pros and cons of cost for my dollar per hour versus hiring somebody.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: And instead, I could just delegate stuff out and still get everything done.
- 36:33SPEAKER_00: So, and then I'm still home for dinner.
- 36:35SPEAKER_00: It's just you gotta think smarter, not harder.
- 36:38SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 36:38SPEAKER_03: I I love it.
- 36:39SPEAKER_03: Uh, and you also have been doing YouTube fairly, well, very consistently, right?
- 36:44SPEAKER_03: Like, um, weren't you telling me you've been getting a bunch of business from YouTube videos?
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: So I started uh January 2021.
- 36:51SPEAKER_00: Um, and this was like six months into the industry.
- 36:53SPEAKER_00: I was like, everyone's saying video is where it's at.
- 36:55SPEAKER_00: Um I've I'm used to and comfortable with Instagram stories, but I've never done a long form video before.
- 37:01SPEAKER_00: And so I was like, you know what, let's just try it.
- 37:03SPEAKER_00: Um, so did, and I did a whole series to start the channel, just out of like here goes, like, let's see what happens basically.
- 37:11SPEAKER_00: Um, fast forward a couple months, got my first client, and I was like, damn, this shit works, and they love me.
- 37:16SPEAKER_00: Like it was just such like an aha moment.
- 37:18SPEAKER_00: And then fast forward, I've been consistently doing one video every single week, and I batch it all together.
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: So I do I film all four videos in one session, which usually takes me two to three hours with the videographer.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: That's my content for the whole month, and then my assistant does the uploading and everything for me, so I don't have to touch it.
- 37:34SPEAKER_00: Uh, but yeah, just it's amazing.
- 37:36SPEAKER_00: A YouTube client is unlike any other lead source out there where they are literally your super fans, and when they meet you, they're like, I can't believe I'm meeting Marina.
- 37:45SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, guys, it's just me.
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: No one fancy.
- 37:49SPEAKER_00: But it's just like it's this credibility and authority that you don't get on any other platform.
- 37:53SPEAKER_00: It's crazy.
- 37:54SPEAKER_03: A thousand percent.
- 37:55SPEAKER_03: Well, that's how I felt when I first met you uh in September, to if we're being totally honest.
- 37:59SPEAKER_03: So I I had the same uh fanboy moment with uh but yeah, you're doing so awesome on YouTube.
- 38:07SPEAKER_00: Weird.
- 38:08SPEAKER_00: It's like we're just sitting with a camera.
- 38:10SPEAKER_03: Right, right.
- 38:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:12SPEAKER_03: You're what would you have done differently?
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: Uh so let me reword this.
- 38:18SPEAKER_03: What do you know today that you wish you would have known when you first started out as an agent two and a half years ago?
- 38:23SPEAKER_00: Ugh, so many things.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: Um, one, trust your gut, because when you're out there interviewing and you're talking to different companies, if it feels weird, it probably is weird.
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: And like looking around at the culture and the people in the offices because it says a lot about the people.
- 38:36SPEAKER_00: And then secondly, is like know what you're good at and own it.
- 38:40SPEAKER_00: It's still taken me up to now to like really be confident in my skills and to say I am a top producing agent.
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: Like, hell yeah, because it's still fresh to me.
- 38:47SPEAKER_00: But I'm like, everyone has been telling me these things about how cool I am, apparently, and I don't believe it internally.
- 38:53SPEAKER_00: Like, it takes so much work to like talk yourself up that you are what people say you are.
- 38:56SPEAKER_00: It's so weird.
- 38:58SPEAKER_00: Um, but like own it and like you come from other professions, you have other skill sets and assets, so be proud about it and share about it and teach other people about what you're good at, you know?
- 39:07SPEAKER_00: That's part of it.
- 39:09SPEAKER_00: Um, and then I think it's just don't be afraid to fail and actually try the things that people are telling you to do.
- 39:15SPEAKER_00: Because I still talk to my mentees now and I say, get on video, get on video, here's three ideas to post today, and then crickets, nobody will actually post the freaking stuff.
- 39:23SPEAKER_00: So it's just like just fail forward, just try it.
- 39:27SPEAKER_03: I mean, that that's it.
- 39:28SPEAKER_03: There's that's how we learn anything, right?
- 39:32SPEAKER_03: It's it's crazy.
- 39:33SPEAKER_03: I I don't know if you saw this, but in the in the society Facebook group, uh I posted the first video that I ever made back in 2012, and it is so cringe.
- 39:45SPEAKER_03: You haven't seen that yet?
- 39:46SPEAKER_03: No, you gotta see that.
- 39:47SPEAKER_03: I'm wearing a freaking name tag, I look like I'm 12 years old.
- 39:50SPEAKER_03: But I'm reading a script, and it's so obvious that I'm reading a script, and it's so god-awful, but that's where I started.
- 39:57SPEAKER_03: And if you're willing to suck for a little bit, you go through enough reps where you just get better.
- 40:04SPEAKER_03: Like the first time you showed a property and were walking through with a client, it was probably a shit show, right?
- 40:08SPEAKER_03: You're like, uh uh.
- 40:10SPEAKER_03: Or the first time you wrote an offer, you probably like didn't check a few boxes or something.
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: Um you just learned through doing.
- 40:18SPEAKER_03: And you know, and look at you now, selling you know, selling a bunch of homes, top producer, YouTube star.
- 40:25SPEAKER_03: And um I mean, I know reaching out and and helping um.
- 40:30SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say, I have a challenge for you guys that want to just fail forward.
- 40:34SPEAKER_00: I have a challenge if you want to fail forward.
- 40:36SPEAKER_00: Um, when I started TikTok early last year, so this is like January 2022, I was like, okay, this is the year I'm gonna get into TikTok.
- 40:42SPEAKER_00: So I did three pieces of content for a whole month, so 90 pieces in 30 days.
- 40:47SPEAKER_00: And I went from zero to 2,000 followers within nine those 30 days or whatever.
- 40:52SPEAKER_00: And then after not asking for anything for the whole first, like probably three months of just educating, sharing value, talking about my life in Hawaii, I finally said, Okay, guys, I have this new loan program, let's do a webinar.
- 41:04SPEAKER_00: I got 45 people to sign up.
- 41:06SPEAKER_00: Like, that's insane to me that you could just like make short form content and like finally ask for something, and then everyone's like, Yes, tell me more.
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: I'm here, sign me up.
- 41:14SPEAKER_00: Here's my email, here's my phone number, like everything.
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: I was just like, wow, this shit is crazy.
- 41:19SPEAKER_00: But again, I was willing to fail, I was willing to make a fool of myself, make stupid, trending stuff.
- 41:24SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 41:24SPEAKER_00: I didn't dance, but there's so many different ways to do it.
- 41:28SPEAKER_00: Um, so I just encourage you guys, like, literally go for it.
- 41:30SPEAKER_00: Like, what do you have to fail?
- 41:32SPEAKER_00: Your own ego, that's it.
- 41:33SPEAKER_00: That's it's just go get it.
- 41:36SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 41:36SPEAKER_03: Well, okay, so we need to talk about this before we jump into the rapid fire questions and wrap this thing up.
- 41:42SPEAKER_03: Uh, this webinar you did, okay, talk us through the webinar.
- 41:46SPEAKER_03: What was you mentioned it's for a new loan program, but you got 45, like 45 people.
- 41:51SPEAKER_03: If you're on stage in a room with 45 people, that is not a small crowd.
- 41:55SPEAKER_03: Like that's awesome.
- 41:57SPEAKER_03: And and so I think I think this idea right here, once you describe it and walk us through it, is gonna open eyes, like, oh my god, like here's something else I could do as well.
- 42:07SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 42:08SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, I feel like every week there's some new loan program that comes out or some new incentive to get buyers into the market.
- 42:14SPEAKER_00: And this was a 100% financing loan from the FHA.
- 42:17SPEAKER_00: Um, one of my lender partners had sent me an email and she's like, hey, this thing just hit our company.
- 42:21SPEAKER_00: We're the first ones to have it in Hawaii.
- 42:22SPEAKER_00: And so I jumped on it and I was like, oh my gosh, tell me more.
- 42:25SPEAKER_00: What is this thing?
- 42:26SPEAKER_00: So I just figured out like the top three to five things that were the benefits of this program because it's I'm not the lender, let's be clear.
- 42:32SPEAKER_00: It was my job to just share education for an invitation to find out more.
- 42:36SPEAKER_00: And so I literally just did that, like with the camera.
- 42:39SPEAKER_00: Hey guys, this is Marina.
- 42:41SPEAKER_00: I just wanted to let you know about this new thing that just came out.
- 42:43SPEAKER_00: If you want to know more, link is in the bio to sign up for the webinar.
- 42:47SPEAKER_00: And then I'll send out a recording if you can't make it, because I realize people have lives and they're busy and stuff.
- 42:52SPEAKER_00: And so I got so many people DMing me or just clicking the link, which is the Zoom webinar link, to do that.
- 42:57SPEAKER_00: Um, and then literally just hosted the lender on my Zoom call to say, okay, now that we're all in the room, here's my lender.
- 43:04SPEAKER_00: She's gonna tell you all these things and pros and cons.
- 43:07SPEAKER_00: Should you not, should you do this?
- 43:08SPEAKER_00: In the meantime, I'm gonna set you guys all up on a home search so everybody is getting the market updates and you're understanding how things are working in real estate.
- 43:16SPEAKER_00: And I give like a mini buyer's consult during that Zoom call too.
- 43:19SPEAKER_00: Here's the five steps to get pre-approved and get through a home, da-da-da-da-da.
- 43:22SPEAKER_00: And then so the follow-up game after that.
- 43:24SPEAKER_00: Like, what did you think of the webinar?
- 43:26SPEAKER_00: How did it go?
- 43:27SPEAKER_00: Are we looking six months, 12 months?
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: How are we feeling?
- 43:29SPEAKER_00: Um, and then the lender went to work, got a bunch of people pre-approved.
- 43:33SPEAKER_00: Um, a lot of it came down to affordability, and so it was really just determining what part of the timeline they're at in their journey.
- 43:39SPEAKER_00: But it got people in the door and it got people asking questions and talking about it.
- 43:43SPEAKER_00: Whereas previous to me doing that call out, who knows if those people ever would have thought they could afford a home in Hawaii?
- 43:49SPEAKER_00: Like the housing prices are astronomical for locals and just the working class.
- 43:52SPEAKER_00: And so to say, hey, you can actually do this with 0% down and figure out how to utilize this FHA program today.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: Um, so it was super good, super empowering.
- 44:03SPEAKER_00: And just yeah, just you could just gotta invite people to come.
- 44:06SPEAKER_00: That's that's it.
- 44:07SPEAKER_03: Well, I'm what what grabs my attention is the simplicity of it.
- 44:11SPEAKER_03: Like you didn't create a fancy landing page, you didn't go do a bunch of graphics, like you didn't do all this stuff.
- 44:16SPEAKER_03: You can do that stuff, of course.
- 44:18SPEAKER_03: Uh but you you just you had a great hook.
- 44:22SPEAKER_03: You said, hey, here's this thing, people wanted that thing.
- 44:24SPEAKER_03: You drove them to Zoom, which I don't think most people know, but with Zoom, you can just go click a button in the in the like the meeting settings to force registration, and then that link is what you send out.
- 44:37SPEAKER_03: Put in your swipe up, put in your you know, the the link sticker in your story or whatever, and then they have to go register for the webinar, and then boom, you have their email address and Zoom takes care of the rest.
- 44:48SPEAKER_03: And then you just show up and educate um and then follow up afterwards.
- 44:52SPEAKER_00: So brilliant.
- 44:54SPEAKER_03: Is it have you done any other webinar trainings like that?
- 44:57SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm probably gonna launch another one this week.
- 44:59SPEAKER_00: Our lender just announced another program, different lender, different program, but it's super exciting.
- 45:03SPEAKER_00: And again, it's just to help that first-time home player.
- 45:05SPEAKER_00: That kind of stuff is really trendy, and people like to jump on it for all the Zillow stalkers at night that are dreaming of the home.
- 45:11SPEAKER_00: This is how to get that conversation started.
- 45:13SPEAKER_00: Um, for the people who think you need 20%, right?
- 45:15SPEAKER_00: It's like just get those people in the door, just start the conversation of education, because they don't know what they don't know.
- 45:20SPEAKER_00: And there's still so many stereotypes and so many mis education going on out there that it's our job as realtors to share this information that we're learning as industry insiders.
- 45:30SPEAKER_00: Um, so you're doing your clients a disservice by not inviting them to the Zoom, by not sharing about your business and what you do.
- 45:36SPEAKER_00: Um, so super exciting about that stuff.
- 45:38SPEAKER_00: But I wanted to say one thing that's awesome about just creating any kind of content is it becomes evergreen over time.
- 45:43SPEAKER_00: So even though I made that thing a year ago, every now and then I still get a DM today, hey, do you have the recording for this?
- 45:49SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, wow, it's still working.
- 45:51SPEAKER_00: Like you don't have to do anything after that.
- 45:53SPEAKER_00: It just works on its own.
- 45:54SPEAKER_00: It's amazing.
- 45:56SPEAKER_03: That's awesome.
- 45:56SPEAKER_03: Very, very cool.
- 45:58SPEAKER_03: Um, I know I'm working on a bunch of webinar trainings for agents for this year.
- 46:04SPEAKER_03: Uh, I was on a call with someone from uh a company that does self-directed IRAs, which uh, by the way, lets people use their retirement accounts to buy real estate.
- 46:14SPEAKER_03: So it's like, hmm, if you knew that you could help people grab their retirement funds from their IRA and actually invest in real estate, how many more clients would you get?
- 46:24SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 46:24SPEAKER_03: Just by teaching them these strategies.
- 46:26SPEAKER_03: And so um, anyway, so there's a little teaser that that's coming soon from us.
- 46:32SPEAKER_03: But uh people when you when you offer something that people want, like, hey, here come learn about that thing, the people who show up are highly motivated, interested, and those are like the best prospects you could ever have.
- 46:47SPEAKER_03: It's not just someone that clicked a Facebook ad because they wanted to see a picture of a house, right?
- 46:52SPEAKER_03: It's very different.
- 46:54SPEAKER_03: And so now you have all these prospects that you can um, you know, cultivate for years to come.
- 47:00SPEAKER_03: And plus, it's just a great way to do what our job is, and that's to educate.
- 47:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and again, you're just opening the door to the conversation about educating them on stuff.
- 47:10SPEAKER_00: So a big thing for a lot of these loan programs, like it's kind of like a clickbaity title, right?
- 47:14SPEAKER_00: Or a clickbaity hook, but then you're just getting them in to be like, tell me more about your situation.
- 47:19SPEAKER_00: A lot of them need credit repair, right?
- 47:21SPEAKER_00: So that tells me I need to make more content about credit repair, or I need to tell you the best ways to increase your credit score over a six-month period.
- 47:28SPEAKER_00: There's so many simple things that we think is obvious, but to the person who is struggling to pay month to month, they don't even think that way.
- 47:35SPEAKER_00: They're not there yet financially or mentally to like have that education or to think to go Google these things.
- 47:40SPEAKER_00: But if you're the one consistently showing up in their feed, helping them, getting them from step to step to step, and then all of a sudden their auntie says, Oh, I need to sell my house.
- 47:47SPEAKER_00: Guess who they're gonna refer, by the way, even if they're not physically ready, their family could be ready.
- 47:53SPEAKER_00: And so again, it's just being that person in their circle that's inspiring them, advising them, so that when the time comes, they're thinking of you.
- 48:01SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 48:02SPEAKER_03: Well, I could talk to you for another hour, but um we should probably wrap this up because uh I know you've got a life to live as well, and a business to run and a family to raise.
- 48:10SPEAKER_03: So um every time we have a guest on, we do these rapid fire questions.
- 48:15SPEAKER_03: So let's blow through those, and then at the end, I want you to let everyone know where they can connect with you, talk to you, learn from you, um, just be part of what you're doing, watch your YouTube videos because you're doing such a great job there.
- 48:28SPEAKER_03: So we'll do that right after these.
- 48:30SPEAKER_03: So if you are ready, Marina, the rapid fire questions.
- 48:34SPEAKER_03: Let's do them.
- 48:35SPEAKER_00: Ready as we'll ever be.
- 48:37SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 48:38SPEAKER_03: So either or questions.
- 48:40SPEAKER_03: You don't need to elaborate unless you want to.
- 48:42SPEAKER_03: You can just pick one or the other.
- 48:44SPEAKER_03: Uh Facebook or Instagram?
- 48:46SPEAKER_00: Instagram for sure.
- 48:48SPEAKER_03: Instagram or TikTok?
- 48:50SPEAKER_00: Instagram still.
- 48:51SPEAKER_00: I think I'm stuck on it.
- 48:52SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 48:53SPEAKER_03: Uh Instagram or YouTube.
- 48:55SPEAKER_00: COVID elaborate.
- 48:58SPEAKER_00: Uh it depends.
- 48:59SPEAKER_00: Both.
- 49:00SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say why.
- 49:01SPEAKER_00: So YouTube for business for sure.
- 49:03SPEAKER_00: Instagram for relationships.
- 49:05SPEAKER_03: Ooh, I like that.
- 49:07SPEAKER_03: I like that.
- 49:08SPEAKER_03: Books or podcasts?
- 49:10SPEAKER_00: Podcasts.
- 49:11SPEAKER_03: Podcasts or audiobooks?
- 49:14SPEAKER_00: Podcasts, for sure.
- 49:16SPEAKER_03: Rental property or flipping?
- 49:19SPEAKER_00: Rentals all day.
- 49:21SPEAKER_03: Nice.
- 49:22SPEAKER_03: Burgers or pizza?
- 49:23SPEAKER_00: Pizza.
- 49:24SPEAKER_00: Easy.
- 49:25SPEAKER_03: Um New York or LA.
- 49:28SPEAKER_00: Uh I've never been to New York.
- 49:30SPEAKER_00: Uh, but I'm gonna go LA just because I've heard New York is smelly and LA is not really that smelly.
- 49:38SPEAKER_00: Is that true?
- 49:39SPEAKER_03: LA stinks.
- 49:41SPEAKER_03: Stinks.
- 49:43SPEAKER_03: Depends on where you're at.
- 49:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 49:45SPEAKER_03: But yeah, New York stinks.
- 49:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 49:49SPEAKER_03: Fair enough.
- 49:51SPEAKER_03: Um, NFL or NBA?
- 49:53SPEAKER_00: Uh kind of neither, but if I had to pick NBA, go Warriors.
- 49:59SPEAKER_03: Warriors.
- 50:00SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 50:01SPEAKER_03: Um mountains or beach?
- 50:04SPEAKER_00: Do you have to ask beach for sure?
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: But I have best of both worlds.
- 50:08SPEAKER_00: So the beach is 10 minutes, the mountains 10 minutes that way, so I got it made.
- 50:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I was impressed.
- 50:14SPEAKER_03: Like most people think of Hawaii as, you know, the beach, but then you have these giant um green rolling mountains just like right there, too.
- 50:22SPEAKER_03: It's at least on Oahu.
- 50:24SPEAKER_03: I need to see the rest of the the islands, don't I?
- 50:26SPEAKER_03: What's your favorite Hawaiian island?
- 50:29SPEAKER_00: Ugh.
- 50:30SPEAKER_00: I'm so torn.
- 50:31SPEAKER_00: Um, I think if my soul had to choose right now, it'd probably be the big island.
- 50:35SPEAKER_00: And it's just because they still have open country, open space, you can road trip over there.
- 50:39SPEAKER_00: Whereas like Oahu is pretty much a whole city at this point.
- 50:42SPEAKER_00: There's nowhere you can escape on Oahu.
- 50:45SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 50:46SPEAKER_03: You know, I've heard many Hawaii locals say that the big island's their favorite.
- 50:52SPEAKER_03: Um, I think most say that.
- 50:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 50:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's incredible over there.
- 50:56SPEAKER_00: You literally get every single climate zone.
- 50:58SPEAKER_00: It's insane.
- 51:00SPEAKER_03: Oh, awesome.
- 51:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I need to do that.
- 51:02SPEAKER_03: I think it'd be cool to do.
- 51:03SPEAKER_03: My wife and I were talking about this the other day, doing like a Hawaiian cruise.
- 51:07SPEAKER_03: We love cruising to begin with, but then being able to like sample each island, I think it'd be kind of a cool way to do it.
- 51:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for sure.
- 51:14SPEAKER_03: Have you ever done that?
- 51:15SPEAKER_00: No, I haven't.
- 51:16SPEAKER_00: But it's not or it's not expensive to island hop either.
- 51:20SPEAKER_00: It's literally like 50 bucks a flight.
- 51:22SPEAKER_00: So you can do it all on flights too.
- 51:24SPEAKER_03: Oh god, that's awesome.
- 51:26SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 51:26SPEAKER_03: That beats the shit out of uh flying from the mainland to Hawaii.
- 51:31SPEAKER_03: Uh podcast or vlog?
- 51:34SPEAKER_00: Oh, podcast still.
- 51:37SPEAKER_00: I always see vlogs on YouTube, but I never actually watch the whole thing.
- 51:40SPEAKER_00: I just talk forever.
- 51:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, fair enough.
- 51:46SPEAKER_03: Fair enough.
- 51:47SPEAKER_03: Uh YouTube or Facebook Live?
- 51:50SPEAKER_00: YouTube.
- 51:52SPEAKER_00: Searchability factor for sure.
- 51:54SPEAKER_03: Ooh, great point.
- 51:55SPEAKER_03: Great point.
- 51:56SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 51:56SPEAKER_03: Great reminder.
- 51:57SPEAKER_03: YouTube is a search engine, not a social network.
- 52:00SPEAKER_03: Uh Rich Dad, poor dad, or millionaire real estate agent?
- 52:04SPEAKER_00: Rich dad, poor dad.
- 52:05SPEAKER_00: Again, going back to the rentals.
- 52:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 52:08SPEAKER_03: Love it.
- 52:09SPEAKER_03: Uber or Lyft?
- 52:11SPEAKER_00: Uber.
- 52:12SPEAKER_00: Which is a funny thought.
- 52:13SPEAKER_00: It really is just the heart.
- 52:14SPEAKER_03: Gary V or Grant Cardone.
- 52:16SPEAKER_00: Uh, Gary V.
